I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Internet for Laptop while Traveling and Laptop Buying Advice

Many RV travelers have a directional antenna and a WAP (Wireless Access Point) to connect to WiFi. One of the major issues is weak signals, a good directional antenna can be aimed at the source and make a big difference. I'm led to believe that many RV parks supply WiFi connections. . Decent cellular data access is pretty expensive, $60-100/mo, probably a bit steep for your intended use.

There is no way you need to spend more than $1000-1200 for a nice laptop Any laptop will offer wired and wireless connectivity nowadays. I bought my HP DV9207US laptop through the bargain sites listed below, and I paid $800 for it. I added 2gigs of memory and an additional 120gig hard disk, and have a total of less than $1000 invested. It's certainly more than sufficient for your stated needs.

Hey just a quick thread about my current laptops cooling problems because it constantly rises to C Degrees when doing the simplest of tasks such as web browsing I have a cooling stand for it and it hardly ever is moved because I know how hot it gets - its more like a desktop now I've heard it is because of a bad heat sink design in the DV Series but was wondering whether replacing the current thermal compound with something such as Arctic Silver would help at all Also I am buying a new laptop in the next Laptop Overheating New Laptop advice? and few months but I cannot decide on the best laptop to buy I have been interested in a Dell Overheating Laptop and New Laptop advice? XPS which has the i - m processor and the Nvidia M GPU I don't playing any FPS games but do play some browser games or did play but I would rather have the option there Would this be adequate for games like RuneScape and such I'm not too fussed about the lack of turbo boost since the clock rate on my current CPU is locked but performs fast enough I am looking more for a cool system with a decent GPU which is somewhat power efficient Hopefully hours battery Any advice I'm open to hearing about other laptops within my price range that you might recommend - Up to Thanks Will

A:Overheating Laptop and New Laptop advice?

Hello Willisme1. Welcome to the forum.

I'm sure you will get lots of advice about buying a new laptop here from others, but as for your overheating laptop - that is most often cause by dust clogging the heatsink and vents. Have you cleaned it?

Also check the heatsink fan to be sure it is blowing. These do start to fail after some time.

I have this now

My motherboard says it will only take up to 192 max.. but was wondering if a stick of SODIMM 256MB PC-133 would still work and maybe not use the full 256? It's a Toshiba Satellite 2750dvd. I'm thinking it probably won't work but want to make sure.. Anyone know?

Hey,

I wasn't really looking to get a new laptop until next year sometime, but I have just seen a really good deal (or at least I thought it was) for a Dell 15R - Inspiron 15R laptop.

However, I have two problems. Firstly, I have heard that the Inspiron 15R series are bad for overheating? Now I presume that model isn't affected by this since it only has an integrated graphics card. Does anybody know how likely an i5-3210M and Intel HD 4000 is to overheat?

Secondly, I wasn't sure whether it was worth ?80 to move up from i3-3110M. I'm aware that the i3 doesn't have turbo boost but this laptop was more so something to get me by until university.

Any advice is welcomed,

Thanks, Will.

Hi my laptop charger broke after like a year of having it and i presumed it was a regular thing as my friends broke aswell but now after buying another months ago its broken again and the manufacture posted with Advice what to my laptop do on me the following message Hi The adapter fitting loosely and charging intermittently is a typical sign of damage to the Advice on what to do with my laptop laptop s AC pod where you plug the charger in Unfortunately the AC pod of a laptop is very fragile and unreliable and it just takes a bit of heat for the pod to warp and crack making the charger look at fault Chargers will either work or not at all so intermittent charging is rarely a fault with the adapter I d recommend you get your laptop checked at a local PC repair shop not PC World to get the fault confirmed and or fixed As you maybe able to tell the prblem with it was that it only worked in certain possisions and sometimes made my power button turn red bt now it won t work at all is it worth taking it to a shop or is the charger just the problem nbsp

A:Advice on what to do with my laptop

What makes you think the AC Adapter is at fault and not the AC Pod as suggested by the Manufacturer?

it only worked in certain possisions and sometimes made my power button turn red bt now it won't work at allClick to expand...

This is an intermittent problem, which, in my opinion points to
1) the answer you already received... (or, less likely)
2) damage to the power cord, due to abuse... failure in 3 months is just overwhelming! and you would likely be able to see external signs of the internal damage to the cord.

Repairing the "AC Pod" may or may not be economical. Only your repair tech will be able to say.
Given the prices on computers these days, your best bet might be (maybe...)
to backup your data, and just replace the laptop.

Replace the power unit (charger, as you call it)...
Have the AC Pod inspected and possibly repaired...
Bite the bullet and replace the computer...

You will need to weigh these options for yourself. What is certain is that your computer is little more than a doorstop/brick without power.

A:Laptop Advice

memory (at least 1gb) the more memory in latops, the less your hard drive has to work and thus the more battery time you save.
battery life -at least 2 hours or more.
hard drive space (40 to 60gb is plenty for general computing)
Wifi card (essential for laptops)
plenty of usb ports (3 or more)
ethernet port - essential when wifi isn't available
dial up modem (nice for legacy purposes but not essential)
runs cool - very important. Some brands of laptops run very hot - like dell. I don't recommend some of their models for this reason - they burn up easily.

speed is not really an issue for general office use and surfing.
and 1.6ghz or faster laptop is plenty fast.

a 7200rpm hard drive is fast, but not essential

A:Advice on a laptop please?

Can you post a link to that laptop or at least post a model number? the majority of laptops have integrated graphics and are not really suited to high end gaming. There are exceptions such as the Alienware MX 15 and MX17, but these although owned by Dell, are very expensive with starting prices around $1200 USD.

I'm aiming to buy laptop with core i3 330m/350m/370m/380m.
I can't decide the gpu because I had hp pavilion notebook and its nvidia gpu fried in 2 years,it become very hot even by playing counter strike.
I don't want a powerful gpu I will just play few games like need for speed world. And I want an advice which gpu is cooler and better.I want to buy a laptop with maximum price $600.
what do you say about ati radeon 6470m?

A:I want an advice about a laptop gpu.

I would stay away from any type of Intel video if you want to do any gaming.
I myself have always used ATI video in my builds and laptops, the issue is the laptop version is not as powerful as their desktop types of the same model, it would be better to go with the highest video card in the laptop you can get for your price since they will quickly get outdated.

Since this work is critical to your friend, I suggest he switch to a desktop as the main workhorse. That way he can control the gpu specs and ensure good ventilation. Laptops are always susceptible to overheating for different reasons, the more powerful the laptop the worst the problem.

A:Going to buy New Laptop. Your help and advice

From the prices over this side of the pond I notice the Acer's usually have the same price as the HP's, but usually outfitted with a better video card, more RAM and HD space.

Looks like in conversion to CDN, you have about 998 to spend, with that in mind I looked at our best online store in Canada, NCIX.com:

NCIX.com - Buy Acer AS7730-6717 Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 4GB 320GB 17IN WXGA DVDRW LAN Vista Home Premium Notebook - LX.AS30X.011 In Canada.

4GB ram and 17 inch display, 2.16ghz dual core2, pretty nice for 969$ and in your price range.

Another model is:

NCIX.com - Buy Acer AS6935-6683 Core 2 Duo T6400 4GB 500GB 16IN WXGA DVDRW Vista Premium Notebook - LX.ATN0X.047 In Canada.

Bigger HD, a couple extra bucks more then 998$ but still, up to you if its worth the extra HD.

NCIX.com - Buy Acer Aspire AS5735-6999 Core 2 Duo T6400 4GB 500GB 15.6IN WXGA DVDRW LAN Vista Premium Notebook - LX.AU50X.261 In Canada.

This one is nice, but only a 15.6 display, however its 879$.

Some good choices for your "small" budget, I wish I had that much to blow on a nice new laptop, I'm thinking of a netbook personally, just for surfing and playing sins of a solar empire.

I've never used my S2 *without* its typecover (sometimes flipped back), so I wonder if the next device couldn't be a convertible or something like the x360.
My needs are as follows:
a) Weight : around or less than a kilogram
b) Being able to process RAW fils, or stitch panoramas. I guess this means 6 GB RAM at least, and an appropriate CPU
c) A good screen (to process my pictures)
d) Good battery life
e) Enough storage to allow a dual boot configuration (I process my pictures with Darktable, running on Linux). This could be a in a VM, but still, it requires enough storage. This probably means 512 GB disk I suppose
f) Being able to use the laptop as a tablet (? la Yoga or x360)
I'm not necessarily inclined to go for a Surface Pro because, as I said, I've never used my current tablet without it's type cover. And I suspect the issues I have (keyboard not working, or repeating pressed keys like aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) are linked to the detachable keyboard. That said, SP4 could be an option if it represents enough benefits compared to competition.
I'd appreciate your inputs. A 2015 or 2016 x360 could be a winner here, but I wonder if there are other possibilities. To be precise, I'm not a professional photographer, so the RAW part won't be needed daily, nor on big batches. And I'm not a gamer either :)
Thank you You can probably get something but the weight is a bit unrealistic. Probably 2 kg

Hi peeps,

I recently got given a compaq cq52-a25sa which is a very low end laptop but surprisingly can handle most tasks quite well, can run games likes dead space, bioshock 2, mass effect and battlefield band company 2 on high setting which I was really surprised at as the processor is pants, the main uses of my laptop is Internet, watching movies, visio and the odd photoshop plus vbox for work.

I would like a new laptop and quite fancy the dm1-4020sa just wondered if anyone had any experience of this thing.

My previous laptop nx6325 was great with 2gb ram only problem was the 4:3 screen.

Thanks

A:Advice on a new laptop

I personally have not owned a HP Pavillion DM1-4020SA but from what I've heard and read it is a good, sturdy laptop. The only thing is, it was made for simple, day to day use not gaming. The dual core AMD E-450 isn't the best for gaming but the Radeon 6320M is decent. The audio however is excellent.

After some advice here guys, I'm a big gamer with a gaming pc for my large games, and a laptop for when I'm playing casually, such as mmo's and laptop friendly games. My laptop has a 500gb hdd in which is almost full, the specs are good but the hdd is 5400rpm and seems to be the one thing slowing it down so i'm looking for an upgrade. Looking at a 1TB hdd, is going to 7200rpm going to make much of a difference? I would like an ssd but my latop has only one hdd slot and around 1TB for an sdd is a lot of money. What advice would you give?

I was thinking about picking up a new laptop for this upcoming school semester. My current laptop is pretty old and is really starting to get to me. I was thinking about getting this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834230034 and upgrading it to 4GB. My question is, will it be a big enough difference for it to be worth it?

I just received a new Lenovo Thinkpad W500 from the university i'm going to this fall. I've never owned a computer before and was looking for some advice on how to keep a new computer running smoothly. For example, how often should I perform tasks like disk cleanup and defragmentation, cleaning the registry, should i remove software that came with the computer, should i add new software, etc?

I have done some research on other websites but am looking for more answers. Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, the computer came with Symantec Antivirus vers. 10.2 and Windows Defender. Are these both good anti virus/malware programs?

Hey everyone. I need serious advice on upgrading my Laptop CPU. I don't know what CPU to go for. Here are my specs (Saves you time opening my specs):

Dell Inspiron? 1545 Laptop
Microsoft? Windows 7 Ultimate RTM Build 7601 SP1 64 bit OS
4 GB RAM
Celeron? Dual-Core CPU T3000 @ 1.80GHz
Mobile Intel? GM45 Express Chipset (GM4500, X4500)
Dell Motherboard Model 0G848F
160GB HDD
Native Resolution 1366 x 768 (15.6")
IDT HD Sound

I don't know which CPU to go for. I'm looking for an improvement in overall performance, maybe gaming (for CPU's that have intergrated graphics but preferably a better overall performance). Preferably any CPU that's better than the Celeron Dual-Core T3000. I know that's not a good processor but I'm looking for better performance. Any advice given will be highly appriciated. Thanks in advance!

A:Need Advice On Upgrading Laptop CPU

First, are you sure it is even possible to upgrade the CPU in your laptop? Only a small few laptops allow this. Second, even if the chipset can take it, and the CPU isn't soldered in, the cooling system may not be able to handle it. Even if you get passed all those restrictions, your still going to be severely limited in the gaming department by the onboard video card.

Honestly, if gaming is what you are after, you can either spend a fortune on a gaming laptop, or just build a tower, saving the laptop for everyday, less-intensive work.

You should also consider post-purchase support.

Dell generally makes pretty good stuff--as good as any major OEM, better than most.

Dell support is fair to decent, not good. But as far as I know, NONE of the manufacturers have "good" support any more. It's all been sent offshore to Asia. If you ever have to deal with support, you will probably become frustrated, regardless of your brand choice. Part of it is the language barrier, but there are other shortcomings.

You may be able to choose a Dell support option for extra money that will provide support from a US source, but it isn't cheap.

About all you can do is hope you never have to deal with support. Dell is probably as good a choice as any, but you can have bad luck with any brand. I did.

Offhand, I wouldn't think he needs an i5 processor for his modest needs, but it's certainly fine if he wants to spend that much.

Do you know for a fact that he is going to be comfortable with Windows 8 or 8.1, rather than 7? Is he a mouse guy or does he want to use a touchscreen?

Is Curry's your only possible source?

Look around Curry's for brands like Asus or Toshiba--something other than Acer.

I am going to uni in september and i need a good laptop, I'm looking to spend preferably less than £500 but if one is very tempting i would stretch to £600.

I'm going to be using it mostly for university work (word processing, internet surfing etc), probably a bit of gaming as well, i would like at least 3GB memory and a dual core processor above the 2GHz mark, dedicated graphics wouldn't go a miss either if possible, also a big screen size would be good, above 15" preferably.

These are a few i have come across on my travels of the internet:

I used to have acer 6530G with AMD Turion X2 with 3650M. The laptop was fine but that AMD CPU was a trouble. Whenever I installed new games, the graphics work fine but the CPU was killing the laptop. I had to wait few weeks so that a patch could released to tweak AMD devices to run games better.

Now since my laptop is dead, I am looking for a new laptop. I am not a hardcore PC gamer (I play it on X360 mostly) but I am looking for a laptop that will have a long lifespan and that can run games fine even on low settings. I'm an over the road truck driver. The main function of the laptop will be to run my GPS software. I'll also want the best wireless card I can get. The GPS software I'm going to run will be CoPilot Live which is designed for truckers and has voice directions so I'm not sure what the best set up will be for a speaker system, preferably something small but durable and of good quality.

Any advice on the specs of this system would be of great use as well as the best place to buy the laptop in your opinion!

I'd also want a power solution for running the laptop off of the cigarette lighter. Hopefully the adapter will run two items at once.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And as always, thanks in advance!

I think you'd be much happier with a dedicated GPS. The software and receiver alone are $200. Then you're looking at adapters, mounting of a laptop, not having a driver-friendly interface.

A friend who s staying with me has a laptop and wouldn t you know it the thing is dying It s an HP DV and although its specs look good with a little googling most everyone agrees it is a disaster so much so HP initiated recalls a year after it was released The exact model is dv wm The first thing to go was his wireless card I have only opened up the back panel to take a quick peak and I found where the wireless card is I thought the wires had come undone but a little tug and they re pretty taught so I think they re still in place The wireless LED on the front of the laptop is always red no for motherboard Looking advice laptop matter how much you toggle the switch and replacing the drivers did nothing its not even detected Second symptom starts with the graphics card when he would boot up the system would take forever to load and when the desktop finally came up after about seconds the screen went blank Went into safe mode and uninstalled the graphics driver and now it boots up again however when I try to install the appropriate new graphics driver Chipset is nvidia nforce with geforce go integrated the nvidia screen brings up the error the hardware isn t Looking for laptop motherboard advice detected It seems from the google searches Looking for laptop motherboard advice that the chipset gets so hot that pieces and wiring unsolder from the motherboard Im not all that hardware savvy and although I ve built a few desktops and taken some laptops apart Im a laptop novice One idea I had was to open up the notebook and look at the damage re-solder back everything in place and custom design a mini copper heatsink to put over the chipset with arctic silver held in place on the motherboard with epoxy and then replace the fan with one of equivalent size but higher rpm s Sounds good but Im not sure I d be able to recognize all thats gone wrong with the motherboard so Im not so confident in my ability to fully repair it The certainty of this being a well thought out long term solution is also debatable Another idea was to buy a new motherboard thats more recent and most likely cooler and then track down a corresponding notebook case designed for the motherboard and transfer over all the hardware processor ram hard drive optical drive if possible LCD screen if possible fan wireless card and tracking pad If it turns out all the hardware is compatible and all I end up buying would be the motherboard and case then sounds like a fairly cheap alternative to repairs Im also open to any suggestions for motherboards that are compatible with the current case if anyone knows of any that would have fewer problems and just swap them out Just looking for a cheap way to save this laptop I dont think its unsalvagable yet nbsp

A:Looking for laptop motherboard advice

I don't think you can do what you want, laptop motherboards and related hardware is not universal - you can't really pick and choose a motherboard and shell. You could buy a barebones/white-box unit and maybe re-use the CPU, drives, and memory, maybe. Re-soldering won't likely help at this point and if it would you'd need highly precise equipment and extremely good skill.

These units were junk, but if its under 2 years old HP should take it back, or if its over two years but has a history with HP for issues then they may take it back as well.

The cheap solution is the simple one, sell this one off for parts and buy a new one.

Hello, I've been reading many options for purchasing a new laptop but now I'm overloaded with info. I'm hoping to get the best laptop I can get for $400 or less.

I will be using it for Ms office applications, some graphics work and do enjoy having multiple windows open. And of course Internet use for researching.

I'm not even quite sure what to look at when buying new but I know there are so many options.

I did find one that looked ok see below. If you could tell me what I need to look at and if the following laptop seems hood for the money.

Thank you!

If you have $850, I would look for something that has an A10 processor in it. Try something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satel...UTF8&qid=1388511238&sr=8-2&keywords=A10+5750m

I dont know what shopping sites are available in your location, but something like this should give you at least a place to start on what to look for.

I want to upgrade my toshbia eqiuim A110-252, it currently has 512 of DDR2 RAM (533 MHz).
does it matter if i get ram of a different size and or speed. could this slow down the system?

if i get ram of 667 mhz would it slow this ram to 533 to match the other?

is there any ram which is reccomended for my notebook?

Thx Mcna

A:Need advice on upgrading laptop ram

Go to www.crucial.com and they can match your RAM to your computer.

The computer will slow RAM speed to the speed of the slowest chip. Aside from that, no difference.

I'm interested in buying a new laptop, but I'm not at all clued-up on this whole business.

I'm looking for a gaming desktop replacement, that is, a gaming laptop. However, I'm not sure how to find the right laptop: I've read many contradicting stories about the quality of laptop graphics cards, especially against their desktop counterparts, which has lead me to believe that I'd have to spend a lot more if I wanted good parts for my laptop.

I've also read something about laptops being built to fit desktop parts or something, but I'm not sure on this one. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A:Advice on a Gaming Laptop

Gaming laptop's are useless. Crysis will crush them on high, which is the only option to play unless you can go higher. Build a new pc and spend what you save on laptops on new games. The best laptop chipset is either a 280m or one of ATI's - and that isn't saying much, a desktop 4890 is vastly better. Dual core is best unless you get a quad core with a high clock like a Phenom 955 @ 3.2GHz - equal to an E8500 in dual core games.

Basically I would like something that won't be outpaced my minimal system requirements for games for at least the next 2 years, don't need max, just playability is fine with me oh and something that can easily handle current games like Oblivion and The Orange Box. Current one crashes on portal which was a sign....

How important is CPU speed? Dell has some great deals but all their duo core processors are 1.5 GHz and no graphics chip to speak of...

Hi all,

I just bought a new budget laptop but wouldn't mind upgrading the memory.

The laptop is the Lenovo G40 which came with 4GB and no OS installed.

I was planning on installing Windows 7 but if I go for more ram I will need to get the 64 bit version I understand.

The processor is an i7 CPU @ 2.00GHz

Would I be OK installing Windows 7 64 bit and then adding another stick of 4GB to bring it up to 8 GB or should I aim for more ram?

I'm planning to use it mainly for web surfing with Chrome, Word, and image editing with Photoshop.

My previous laptop was a i5 with 4GB ram (Win 7 32 bit) and it would grind to a halt fairly often so I would like more power for my day to day tasks.

Thanks!

If they are asking for Apple, then it is probably because of some design software they use there and you can't really replace it with a PC.

So I am looking at buying a new and Laptop Buying advice new could a use some I laptop and instantly I went to Newegg I have been looking around and narrowed it down to MSI gaming laptops Laptop Laptop I asked my cousin his opinion since he does a lot with computers and he essentially told me The specs on both are horrible since the only difference is the color and RAM The processors on both will be slower then his current computer which is a standard DELL with a nd or rd gen i Both are much slower then most other computers They are just terrible gaming laptops in general So he pretty much said they are both terrible Since this is Buying a new Laptop and I could use some advice my first time buying a computer on my own and it is a lot of money to spend I am looking for a little guidance Both of the above look pretty good to me speed and performance wise Buying a new Laptop and I could use some advice I play a lot of games on Steam League of Legends Diablo and some other pretty demanding games I am also looking to do some school work on Microsoft Office and such to do research and write papers and things I am a college student At some point in the future I may have to install some D CAD software since I am studying to be an engineer I also do general computer things and possibly record some game play footage I hope to use whatever computer I get for or years assuming I take care of it properly If both of these options are bad which I am fairly confident that they are not can anyone point me in the right direction My budget is anywhere close to the price of the two above - Any help is appreciated Thanks nbsp

A:Buying a new Laptop and I could use some advice

Both laptops are great, I really do not know what your cousin was thinking. Both laptops have the highest end components you can get. They are are overkill though. This is why:
1) You want to avoid RAID 0.
2) 32GB RAM is too much.
3) A 4GB GPU for 1080P is overkill, but doesnt hurt.

Pros:
1) The 780M is great.
2) 4th gen CPU
3) A lot of RAM.

I would recommend Sager laptops. They offer great value. I would look into this:
1) http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=category_browse&selected_cat=special&mid=NP9390
- I would chose this because it has dual 8970Ms. This will kill battery life (not like it had any in the first place), but it will play any game @ ultra. Lower the amount of RAM to 16GB since 24-32GB is overkill. Make sure you select the Intel Intel 240GB 525 series SSD instead of the Crucial M4. Make sure you chose the prefered OS (Win 7 vs Win 8).

That is the best option because it comes with 2 GPUs. It is by far the best value.

I have seen a couple of HP/Compaq in that range running about $1000. I am looking for some feedback on brand, reliability, personal reviews, etc.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Advice for buying Laptop

seeing how nobody has replied yet, i think i can kinda handle this.

HP, Dell, Gateway should be okay for your purposes, not a fan of compaq, as are quite a few people.

Sony, IBM, toshiba, are a little bit more respected, but they may cost a litttle bit more than you want.

Alienware is probably one of the best, and may be a bit overated.

I am about to get one, and i was thinking of a low end IBM or a middle gateway. have a few more months to decide.

If it's an older laptop, it probably has a PATA hard disk.

Be prepared to spend a lot on an "older laptop" for even and equivalent size. 64-Gig drives start at about $180 and 128's at about $350.

I am looking to buy a new laptop, mainly for the internet and schoolwork, but also for listening to music.

Im looking for one with a good amount of RAM (at least 512). And with a decent battery.
The question is what Operating System to get.

Everyone says the apple macs are better.. how are they better than windows?

It will cost me a lot in extra RAM to get Vista running how I want it to so it is a question of XP or a Mac.
Also I need to know some good reliable places or websites to purchase (in the UK)

Any help would be much appreciated!

I am thinking I may need to buy a new laptop with bigger hard drive, more memory, faster processor. The specs on current laptop are:
HP G60 Notebook, 16.9 screen; Processor - Pentium (R) Dual-Core T4400 @2.20 GHz; 4.00 Memory; Windows 7 64 Bit Operating System.

The one I am looking at is : HP Pavilion 15t-n200; Operating system - Windows 7 Home Premium 64;
Processor and Graphics 4th generation Intel® Core™ i5-4200U Processor + Intel® HD Graphics
Display 15.6-inch diagonal HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1366x768)
Memory 12GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) (or) 8GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)
Hard drive 1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive (or) 750GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive

My goal is a faster computer. Any advice/suggestions?

A:Need advice for buying new HP laptop.

You'll often find that there's a particular bottleneck that's slowing everything down, and that's where you want to focus your efforts.
This tends to vary with what you use the computer for, and it's probably worth your while doing some real world measurements before you decide.
For example, if you've only used up 200 gigs on your current hard drive, it's probably not worth the cash to get a terrabyte in the new one.

A:Looking for advice on purchasing a laptop

Bought my son a Sager from Xotic PC. They certainly build gaming systems and they give you some latitude to configure. Their customer service is excellent. I never heard of them before until I went here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ and through research - a ton of research - I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Other excellent companies are PC Digital, Power Notebooks, and Mythlogic. Seriously, check them out.

Hello all,

Im after a bit of expert advice and im hoping this is the right place to ask.

I have £700 to spend on a laptop for Uni and i need it too meet a certain spec which is -

Portable & Light (the smaller the better)
DVD rw drive (for watchin films)
Decent graphics card (to play call of duty 4 at least)
Good battery life (as ill be at uni with it all day)
Wireless
Does not have to have an OS as i will install XP on the machine
Good make! (would love a sony but obviously cannot afford one)

Processor dual core
memory 2gb + ?

Could people point me in the right direction ? Maybe give me a few examples or recommend me a few? I do not want to spend £700 and be unhappy with it

Thanks alot for any help in advance

Hi all I just want to get some ideas for this I ve been asked by a couple of people to give them some ideas for what to upgrade to from their present system They want a Laptop and a PC capable of handling web browsing photo storage music storing and MS Office use Maybe also DVD playing They have stated they are not planning on playing games on either My problem is that I don t really know what to recommend them I just want some names to go with or avoid retailers I can use and other things to look out for For retailers UK based please The basic needs I ve got from them so far are For the PC gb drive Laptop and advice buying PC please or more currently using of a gb drive gig PC and Laptop buying advice please ram currently quot running very slow quot on mb but if Vista is all I PC and Laptop buying advice please can get then gigs would probably be minimum Windows XP as that is what they had before and I have no reason to believe they are using anything else at work I have asked but received no answer For the Laptop gb drive mb ram Currently on Windows ME so again XP would be useful There have been no specific requests for any burning devices although a cd burner would be nice as a minimum As for price I also haven t been given a fixed amount but as they are only wanting something for office based usage it should probably be around for the PC I m not sure on how they connect to their modem but their laptop is pretty old so probably doesn t have any inbuilt wireless card therefore their router may not have wireless capabilities Now for some little questions if they were to get MS Vista on either PC or Laptop would it be able to run Norton security software It s seemed to be the only thing they ve really pushed for Also what would be the easiest way of copying over programs and data if there are no burners involved Of course there can be just wondering if it can be done quickly and easily especially relating to the applications they currently use I do have an external hard drive which can be put to use Thanks for any info This request has also been posted on a livejournal community but to no response nbsp

Specs: AMD Athlon II P320 Dual Core 2.1GHZ
4 GB 667mhz (DDR3 1337)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 series
Windows 7 Home Premium
HD - Hitachi 330GB 5400 RPM
MB - Acer Aspire 7551 memory slots 4, max cap 32768 Mbytes
Norton 360

My laptop seems to require frequent restarts before I play any games that require a lot of power (I play Left 4 Dead 2 and Vindictus). I have gone into Services and msconfig and disabled many services/programs that I do not use. I also noticed that I have 4 slots of memory available and only 2 are taken up. Would I benefit if I were to add another 2 or 4 GB of ram?

As well I noticed it said my ram is 667 instead of 1337. Does this mean my ram is only going at 50% of it's max?

A:Buying laptop, need advice

Your budget equates to about $1500 US... (including shipping)
You should be able to find many very good machines in that price range.

I am not sure how wise it is to recommend particular brands or stores.
But if you have questions about a particular brand, or model,
or concerning a particular "e-tailer",
I am sure someone will be willing to share their experience.

As far as narrowing down to a particular laptop...
Start with the games you want to play, and look at what they recommend as a minimum base system... then up your clock and ram by 50% (or so), and that will give you a good idea of what you need in terms of specs...

That would be my starting point, given what you have said so far...
Now... if the specs and the budget conflict... you have to make a choice.
Happy hunting.

I'm sure you can go in the toilet with any of them, but I've heard of some particularly atrocious things regarding Acer customer support--if that matters. They also seem to have a cuckoo partitioning scheme by default--at least for desktops.
