Dell Latitude D600 faulty thermal sensor

Q: Dell Latitude D600 faulty thermal sensor

I hv a Dell Latitude D600 with faulty thermal sensor that show constant 85celcius even just boot and the air that blown out were not even warm. The fan were always at fullspeed. It throttle down to the lowest speed(500mhz).

I did remove the heatsink n clean all dust

I did replace the thermal paste

i replace another processor to confirm that is not a faulty processor's thermal sensor

I tried to change power setting to 'Always On' and is still the same

I tried to overclock it using NHC but its still slow

Anyway that i can disable the temp throttle down?
I dont care if that overheat my laptop as if i have to use a laptop with 500mhz i rather try to cure it.
Btw this is an unused anymore,i just wanna try to fix/modify to make it fullspeed again.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just got a new Dell Latitude d600 laptop. I used it today at work sometimes without power cord and sometimes with. I left it up for about 1 hour and later today for some reason it wont power up. I suspect the battery has run down but I have a power cord and it still wont power up. Does anyone have any insight on how to trouble shoot to see what the issue is?

A:Dell Latitude d600 Will Not Recognize ANY HD Pls Help!!

You can't assume a drive is good just because it's new.
OTH, the fact you can't detect even the old drive suggests you've connected something incorrectly, or there was additional damage from the Walkman crash.
I suggest you start over and double-check all the connectors.

Hello!, My Dell Latitude D600 has stopped working for about a week now and I've been searching through many forums on how to fix it. I have a mixed variety of symptoms. When I try to turn on normally (Just holding down the power button) All the lights, caps lock, scroll lk, power, etc except the battery light but then turn off after a few seconds. Also, when I hold down the power button, and windows button all the lights go on, then the battery light goes red, and then the computer starts to run. (I can hear the fan, and the CD Drive starts working) but the computer monitor still remains black. I have left it like that for a few minutes, but the same symptoms still occur after. Any feed back on this would help, thanks in advance!

A:Dell Latitude D600 won't boot up!

It could be a problem with the power supply or possibly the motherboard. I had that model and im guessing its at least 7 years old.I got rid of mine because the motherboard went and it wasnt worth fixing.

I got an older laptop from my aunt. I finally found a working AC adapter for it and plugged the laptop in and wait a few minutes, then I tried to turn it on, it caused a light in the shape of a battery to turn on. Pressing the button on the battery reveals that all 5 lights come on, so I assume the battery is charged. What happened?

Its unlikely adding XP would set a password, your friend or someone must have set it.

Rustam isnt here anymore, your only choice is to go to my site and find the link for repair station, a website that offers remote unlocking of drives, they charge and dont cover all models.

A little less than a Latitude Dead D600 Dell year ago I got ripped off on a refurbished Dell Latitude D I traded in my pretty much brand new LG widescreen LCD which was about And my HP Slimline with all the Dead Dell Latitude D600 extra stuff included like a burner laser lightscribe multi memory card reader ect it cost me around The PC was about a year old Well I traded those things in for this laptop AND paid cash My girlfriend said not to do it but the I ve known the guy for years I thought okay well he knows more about computers than I do considering he has his own computer business So I did it Initially the laptop came with Linux and shortly after I had it replaced with Windows XP Within the first month my hard drive failed and they made me pay about to replace it They then told me they were not able to pull any data from it Some how something happened and the screen had to be replaced so they replaced it with a screen that doesn t even fit It is too big for the laptop so it doesn t close and obviously that keeps it from being able to hibernate or anything-correct Well they told me it was only cosmetic that I would never have any problems Wrong The left side snapped-not just the hinge-some freakin part under that strip that covers the power button and volume A guy told me the other day that part can t even be fixed without replacing the casing On top of alllll of that The other day I noticed my battery was critical but the ac adapter was plugged in and the green light was on the adapter It eventually died before I could try getting a new ac adapter but I bought a brand new one and it didn t work either yes it was Dell I took the battery out to see if it would work just with the ac adapter and of course it would not The DC jack doesn t seem to be loose but maybe it could be that I noticed the back where the fan vent is at it looks like someone may have dropped my laptop but I have no freaking way of knowing No one has fessed up This pc tech guy said he could take it all apart and see if the laptop is getting any juice at all but he would have to charge me just to take it apart The guy looked at it for me for free and actually refunded me for the new ac adapter and his store refuses all returns I guess he felt bad So I ended up walking away in tears because I have already put like into a less than freaking laptop So what do I do I have no clue how to solder I loved that laptop it worked perfect until now and after I stopped going to my quot friend quot for help Could it be a bad battery cause it is constantly running I almost always had my ac adapter plugged in I never ran the battery down None of the lights come on it won t power up It is just laying there dead No sparks ever flew no smoke no nothing It just stopped charging died and then never came back Please help me nbsp

My laptop has been acting up lately. I will be working and suddenly the system will freeze. No matter what I do, there will be no response. Cntl+Alt+Delete does not work. I have to press the power button to turn off the laptop. Sometimes, when it boots up, it gives me the blue screen asking if it should use the last restore or reboot normal. I always reboot normal. Sometimes the reboot will hang too and I will have to turn off the laptop by pressing the power button. Sometimes everything will be OK. Can it be my harddrive is dying? I also notice for the past week that my NOD32 has been abending. Can this be a software issue and not XP or my harddrive?

I am kinda new to the computer world. I recently changed the motherboard in a latitude d600. Everything works fine except for the audio. I have tried to install the drivers for the onboard sound, but I get the message "Device object not present, restart the system and run setup again." I have gone through the BIOS and see the card in audio controllers, but have no way to enable/disable it. I am very much confused about how to fix this problem.
Is there anyone out there?

Hi I am trying to recover some data from a laptop HDD - I already have a caddy but when I remove the HDD from the laptop the connectors are different - (Not SATA V IDE) - it is an IDE but it has different shaped pins to what my caddy will accept ?

Any Ideas what type of caddy I would need to buy - to be able to access this data

A:Dell Latitude D600 pins on HDD

You need a caddy/adapter that includes a 2.5" IDE (laptop) connector.Yours probably only has 3.5 (desktop)
Some have connectors for all hard drive types - IDE,SATA 2.5,3.5

I am trying to fix a friends Dell D600 Latitude Laptop.

They are not very good with computers, and they thought it had a virus so gave it to me to look at.

But when i try to turn it on all the lights light up and it makes a sound like it is going to boot, but doesnt actually boot up. The screen is completely blank. I have taken out the memory and put it back in, tried pressing every F button and using Fn which some people suggested online.

But nothing works, i have also tried putting in the XP disc and also connecting it to another monitor and pressing Fn +F8 but still nothing.

I don't want to give up on it. :(

I am not a computer expert but it makes a noise when i press it on, so to me it still has life

Is there anything i can do??

My D600 is getting very hot over the hard drive. I purchased another one and it too is getting hot. So hot that it's uncomfortable to type much.

I spoke with a couple local computer store owners and got two answers. One told me that the HD was going bad. That's why I bought another one. The other told me that was Normal with Dell's, especially the Latitude series.

Now what? I've had this computer since 2006 and I don't remember it getting this hot until just the last several months.

Any advise? Is it a bad hard drive or just the Latitude itself?

What would you do if it were yours?

Hi thomas15, welcome to the forums.

There have been reports that this error can be caused by SATA motherboard drivers. If you can get into the BIOS (usually Del or F1 on startup) you should be able to disable IDE Emulation. This has worked in some cases & is worth a try.

A:dell latitude d600 cant renew ip address

hey zeus. that sounds like a pickle of a problem. first off, always use LAN unless you are on a dial-up connection. it's the same as broadband. broadband wasn't introduced until later with windows vista (at least as far as I know). second off have you tried moving closer to router? might be a weak signal or interference from something like a cordless phone or radio. also if you live near train tracks, you might be getting interference from the trains wireless signals to the train station. theres lots of interference that a friend of mine gets from his router whenever a train goes by.

EDITED ADD-IN: also i know you have tried everything under the sun but are you using windows' built-in wireless network control software or are you using the wireless card's software? a lot of times the issue can be a simple software conflict. try disabling or removing the wireless card's software (not the drivers, just the software). then reboot and just use windows' built-in wireless control software and see if that resolves the issue if not, might be a bad wireless card. but don't take my word for it.

I have Dell D600 problem AC Latitude Adapter a Dell Latitude D It can run on a W PA- model HP-OQ B or PA- model PA- - D don t know wattage family of Dell adapters Both models have input of - v - hz output of v PA- outputs A PA- outputs A I normally hook the laptop to the PA- adapter About - weeks ago I noticed that the icon which shows if I am on battery Dell Latitude D600 AC Adapter problem AC or AC and charging kept flickering between AC Dell Latitude D600 AC Adapter problem and battery power Finally it stopped Dell Latitude D600 AC Adapter problem charging the battery in addition to not powering the laptop I figured it was a problem with the AC adapter Luckily I have another PA- at home So I started using it Everything worked for a while Then the nd PA- adapter started to act the same way as the first one I have a docking station which is hooked up to a PA- adapter So I took the PA- and used that to run my laptop Again this worked for a while and then the same problem So far PA- s and PA- had stopped working Then I took the docking station luckily it is small connected the PA- to it and docked the laptop Everything worked But soon after I started getting a message that the laptop is docked but the AC Adapter type is not recognized and to undock the laptop or use another adapter for the docking station I took the PA- and hooked it back to the laptop and removed the battery If I play move the adapter s plug on the laptop sometimes the PA- will work However I get the message that the AC Adapter type is not recognized and the laptop will not run optimally I have a choice to press F to continue or F to setup etc I press F and the laptop will boot This only works on the PA- It does not work on the PA- Unfortunately the laptop will be working and suddenly decides it does not have power and turns off All along I thought I have a defective jack since moving the adapter wire sometimes works However I have another PA- at work So I plugged my laptop to that adapter my rd PA- and everything works It charges the battery and runs the laptop without the battery My question is something on the laptop causing the AC adapters to fail So far I have adapters that are not working I fear my th adapter will go the same way Is this a bad jack issue I bought replacements jacks just in case Also why did the laptop suddenly stop recognizing the adapters Is there anyway I can fix the adapters I ve checked all adapters with a voltmeter they all put out the correct near v nbsp

I am unable to start up my laptop. I get this error message.."the following file is missing or corrupt. \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced start up file.

I do not have the original system disk nor do I have any Dell repair disk.

Can anyone tell me what to do or where I can get a disk from Dell or other source?

I took it to a computer repair store and they could not fix and said I needed disk from Dell.
Thank you.

You can order the disks from Dell or check Ebay. You can also get Win 2000 on Ebay for about $60. You will need re-install the OS or do a repair installation.

Hi guys I've got a Dell D600 laptop just finished reinstalling all the software, drivers etc. come accross a bit of a problem, if I install the video driver (ati mobility 9000)
then the laptop will only output video to an external monitor. It boots up windows splash screen etc on the laptops screen but then as soon as windows kicks in the screen goes black and it switches to the VGA port on the laptop.

However If i then go into safe mode and uninstall the driver the laptop will then boot as normal.

The laptop used to belong to an office and was mostly sat in a docking station could this be a factor?

Ive tried FN + F8 and its not doing anything other than making a black line on the screen, any ideas ?

A:Dell Latitude D600 video problem

try entering the bios setup by pressing f2 during the boot post screen.
there is an option to set the default video output (something like onboard / docking - depends on the model).

Since I ve now recently been ensnared in this problem of Dell computers which suddenly and inexplicably no longer seem to be capable of charging the laptop battery D600 Battery AC - Latitude Dell Charging Not - although the AC adaptor still appears to be fully functional in terms of powering the laptop I thought I would attempt to post the definitive thread on this issue in an attempt to identify a solution I have a probably year old Dell Latitude D laptop purchased used and running Windows XP Professional without any problems for the past - years As an electronics engineer I have no problem in diagnosing and repairing minor eletrical problems to include laptop computers About Dell Latitude D600 - AC Not Charging Battery days ago during a reboot I got the message saying that quot Warning An unknown AC power adapter has been detected gt preventing optimal system performance Strike the Dell Latitude D600 - AC Not Charging Battery F key before the F gt or F key if you do not want to see power warning messages again quot Not knowing what to make of that in terms of the implications I hit F Only Dell Latitude D600 - AC Not Charging Battery a day or so later I noticed that one of my two laptop batteries had drained to zero and appeared to not be charging correctly I checked my two laptop batteries using the built-in test button and both showed OK although one was fully discharged So the batteries are OK In checking the AC adaptor using a voltmeter I checked the output and the output was right up to spec with the output right at V I examined the laptop AC connector port and it appeared to be both solidly soldered with the connections all clean Since I know that the AC adaptor has very few moving parts few none and since one of the batteries I have is relatively new I m pretty sure the batteries and laptop are not the problem So the battery and the AC adaptor upstream all the way to the laptop all appears solid I m somewhat hazy on the internal mechanism in the laptop that detect a battery level discharge and routes power to the battery for charging while the laptop is in a powered-on or powered-off status - although I will assume it functions somewhat similar to the alternator in a car and how a car battery is charged So something physical or software has happened that has thwarted the charging mechanism My guess is something physical since during the time of my problem no software changes come to mind That suggests a physical problem I ve read some threads suggestions problems with the motherboard but I speculate that those are mostly nonsense - since no other problems associated with the motherboard have emerged My best guess is that there s some problem with the Power Circuit Board although I can t discount some other sensor failure problem that has caused the battery charging to fail This represents the extent of my best sense of the problem I won t discount all end-users problems that may possibly originate at the battery or AC adaptor level but I have definitively eliminated those issues as problems on my end so in proposing answers don t offer up either of those - or the quot motherboard quot issue as solutions either Any other possible suggestions on the way to a possible solution and if this has been as large a problem as what I ve read - any input from Dell on a solution I ll happily accept the fact that nothing lasts forever without breaking so I m not sure why I ve seen nothing very compelling on this subject from Dell nbsp

I ve got a Dell Latitude D which I acquired just in the past year which is running Windows XP Professional Batteries Solved: Dell Latitude D600 - Swapping Hot Earlier this year I was lucky enough to have to go on a business trip to Hawaii and given the duration of the flight - I invested in a second laptop battery While on the trip when the first battery began to run low I wondered whether it was possible to quot hot swap quot out the old for the fresh battery After saving all my work that was in progress I swapped out the batteries as quickly as possible - and the system remained on somehow I did this probably - times over the course Solved: Hot Swapping Batteries - Dell Latitude D600 of the trip all with consistent success On a more recent trip though I tried it and got the exact opposite result - with the laptop obviously losing all power during the - second transfer What s going on there now Any speculation on what the problem is In the absence of factual information all I can do is speculate that on the earlier trip the laptop had somehow gone into hibernate or some other standby mode and the teeny tiny onboard energy cell that maintains the clock calendar and other settings was able to briefly sustain the O S during the battery swap Any other theories out there I ve searched online for more information but all I get is lots of ardent statements that this quot hot swapping quot is unequivocally impossible - but unless the laptop was somehow energized just by virtue of my electrical personality these folks are just plain wrong - since I ve done it successfully and repeatedly Any takers nbsp

A:Solved: Hot Swapping Batteries - Dell Latitude D600

Okay, although a few folks from some other parallel bulletin boards have gently urged against trying this practice of hot-swapping the laptop batteries, apparently it is both possible - and usually successful, if you just use a little care.

The trick is to ensure that the Hibernate mode is enabled on your laptop and to ensure that the laptop has fully entered the Hibernate mode. Then you can swap out a depleted battery for a fresh one, and the on-board power source will hold the O/S in a powered on state for at least some period of time (a few seconds?), but long enough to get another battery in place - unless you've got twelve fingers and it takes you five minutes, I guess.

I thought it may be the keyboard that was the problem so I purchased a new replacement, installed it and the problems still weren't fixed!

My Dell laptop shuts itself down after running for about ten hours. The power option in settings is set at "Never shut down" because it's used for CCTV detection and recording.

The most likely cause has been reported as overheating due to a clogged fan and heatsink. So, to avoid wasting time, I bought and fitted a new fan and heatsink and cleaned out the inside of the case whilst I had it in pieces.

Unfortunately, that hasn't solved the problem.

Any other ideas gratefully received.

A:Dell Latitude D600 not running a full processor speed

What are you using to test the speeds? It was never a high speed laptop in the first place, but it has always been a darn good and reliable one.

Large hard drive can make a difference if it is 100 GB or larger... using the Dell version of Windows... the system wastes too much time checking empty space.

Be sure you have WXP SP2 installed, but hold back on WXP SP3, as SP3 protects Microsoft, but slows down an already slow laptop.

Dear Friends Can anybody please help me with this weird thing My laptop Dell Latitude D After power failure the computer failed to boot It did beep signaling error but can t recall the sequence What I saw is that any time I try to turn on the boot starts however the screen is black but faint picture of the booting sequence can be discerned hooked monitor D600 external unless won't Dell Latitude boot Then an orange led on the right led bus turned on and the computer shuts down itself I suspected that the inverter blew out and purchased compatible one second hand However it is important to say that the computer boots and works just as always if external monitor is hooked behind The monitor can be turned off and the laptop will still go up without problem However if the external monitor cable or power cable are unplugged the same kind of failure to boot ensues Also if the external monitor is hooked and the laptop had been booted even after any time once I unplug the monitor cable or its power cable the orange led turns on the computer turns off When I received the second hand inverter I installed it although it isn t identical to the original one After installation the monitor came back to life with light and picture but either during boot or short after that the Dell Latitude D600 won't boot unless external monitor hooked orange led turns on and the computer shuts down I tried to change BIOS settings and several times I could make my computer to boot for long period of times but during boot is always show for short time the orange led Also new warning came regarding the battery exhaustion and that I need to plug the ac adapter although the adapter is ALWAYS in since the battery is old Now the laptop never boots just like right after the inverter blowing However in external monitor is hooked as before the computer boots in a natural way no orange led and both external and laptop screens are working beautifully Now the very best thing for me is unsurprisingly to fix the entire problem and that the laptop will just function regularly As a worst case I don t care if the laptop will beet even without its inherent monitor since I always hook it eventually to projector However I need it to be immune to external monitor unhooking and that it will stay on until I hook it to the projector Any ideas Can I alter the BIOS to ignore failure modes To omit the internal screen Anything wise at all Thank you all in advance Yours Tournesol An interesting update When the laptop is running with external and its own screens together and the external monitor is unhooked for a very short time and glugged in immediatly the orange led shows up and a warning that the battery is too low and I should plug in the AC Note that anyway the laptop is always on ac since the battery is low and anyway why it is responding to the external monitor BTW if I unplug the monitor and fail to plug it is fast enough the computer goes down as if the battery is dead and its not hooked to the AC nbsp

A:Dell Latitude D600 won't boot unless external monitor hooked

Sounds like the motherboard has been damaged in a subtle way and it will have to be replaced. You have two problems. Usually when an external monitor only works normally it indicates the the LCD panel or inverter is bad. You have had some success changing the inverter, but the laptop shouldn't shut down on its own

Hello all.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 and at random times the display will flicker with horizontal lines. I can sometimes agitate it by gently twisting the LCD and it will flicker. I've done some research before and thought the problem would be the flex video cable, which I ordered and installed, but it still flickers. The LCD looks cosmetically perfect, as well as the inverter. The display backlight isn't flickering, rather there are white lines that flicker randomly, so I don't think it's the inverter.

I hooked it up via VGA to an external machine and only the laptop suffered the flicking so I believe that the graphics card is fine.

Here's a video on what I'm talking about.

A:Bad CPU thermal sensor?

I would guess that the mobo is bad, but I don't know. If the mobo was bad I think it could read temps wrong or fry a graphics card, and have boot problems. I think your cpu would be fried at those temps, so I doubt it actually is that hot.
I think the mobo is the most likely candidate.

Hey I got the ASUS A7N8X-X MoBo and I was reading the manual and noticed that, it has a jumper for the Power Supply Thermal Sensor. I have a thermal sensor I found in a box of PC parts and I was wondering if I could use that instead of a Power Supply Themal Sensor? And if so how, is there special software I would have to DL or buy?
I already tried just plugging it in to the jumpers, in hope that it would show up on ASUS probe, but it didn't work so I thought I'd ask you guys if you knew how to set it up right.
Thanks any help you may give,

Hello all I seem to have a defunct thermal sensor and would like some advice on how to resolve the problem CPU reports CPUID HWMonitor idle temp at C CPU problem sensor thermal core C - Core C They re stuck at these figures The bios reports C as well I ve run CPU thermal sensor problem prime with no resulting shift in reported temps at full load This trouble started after I swapped out the stock Intel HSF with a Corsair H I used ArctiClean amp to prep the CPU and used AC MX- thermal compound twice I also flashed the bios - no CPU thermal sensor problem change Obviously I m concerned about a potential meltdown as I do quite a bit of CPU-intensive work I m aware of the inherent flaws of Intel s sensors the CPU thermal seems to be the only one affected but that s little consolation Is there any way to inspect the source for damage Are there any alternatives short of installing my own sensor DualCore Intel Pentium E MHz Asus P K SE EPU BIOS Version I appreciate any input you may provide nbsp

I'm looking to buy memory for my server. Should I buy the one which has a Thermal Sensor? I don't know anything about this.

The one with the thermal sensor is a few dollars cheaper then the regular memory. Is that weird?

Which is better? What do you think?

A:Server Memory with Thermal Sensor

I have to say that I don't believe that memory overheating has ever been a reliability issue in any of the servers I've built or maintained. Frankly, thermal sensors on memory strike me as just another "Gee this is cool but mostly useless" technology.

Still, I'd be looking more at the performance specs of the memory and the brand. I tend to buy Crucial, Patriot, and Corsair memory mostly, along with some Kingston and PNY. I'm sure you already know that putting higher performance memory in your system along side slower memory won't deliver a performance boost, and some boards may not work well with high-performance memory. Generally, I'd just try to get a close match for what you already have in the system, and not worry about thermal sensors.

I have a question about this product::

I wanted to know if there was a way to bypass the thermal sensor on this fan in order to run it a full speed??

I'd like to know what is the best place to put a thermal sensor on a videro card to get the most accurate readings? I have a TT A2349 fan controller with 4 thermal probes that i attached to the CPU, RAM, PSU and video card to read my sys temps. However, i'm not getting accurate readings from the video card, both everest ultimate and nvidia ntune report temps that are 10C higher than that is reported by the thermal probe. I have the video card installed upside down with it's fan facing the bottom of the case and put the thermal probe on the the top of the card where all the microchips are, i'm wondering if its the right place for it or should i put it saomewhere else to get better readings?

A:Where to place a thermal sensor on a video card?

best place is i think is at (or near) the exhaust(if you have space there)

An old computer I have is showing some strange readings...
vcore1 = 1.44v
vcore2 = 2.61v
+3.3v = 2.14v
+5v = 2.71v
another +5v reading - 2.15v
-5v = 5.41v
+12v = 5.50v
-12v = -6.19v

Very strange... specs are:
1GB DDR PC-3200,
3 hard disks (2 IDE, 1 SATA),
Sempron 1.8ghz,
I know it's underpowered and has been for a while,, but why such a big effect? surely wouldn't it not work w/these voltages? thanks

A:Faulty sensor? Or worse?

I use Lavalys EVEREST Home Edition to view system parameters. The home edition is free and can be found at MajorGeeks. Try it and if you get strange readings, then there's a problem with your BIOS.

A common issue i faced with my laptop since the str year of using it was the fan After sending it in for replacement fix times - times under nbsp fan sensor? Faulty/broken warranty to hp and to laptop repair shops i think i nbsp the issue may not be the fan itself At least not all the times At first the Faulty/broken fan sensor? fan was not spinning then some times it would spin normally but the real issue is that Faulty/broken fan sensor? it would not increase rpm at high temperatures Faulty/broken fan sensor? not mater how many times i got it replaced it would spin at max rpm at very high temps C and after a couple of motnhs it wouldnt even get close to of the fans speed Right now i am using my laptop under some kinda heavy load C and the fan is spining at the same speed as it is iddle Only if it hits it will spin a tad faster but deffinately not max rpm nbsp Before this issue happens the fan always makes a weird noise nbsp like the voltage is not constant and it goes fast slow fast slow randomly sometimes then after a while maybe a buzzing noise like the bearing got out of possition nbsp Checked my old fan and current one using the laptops usb port V and the fans can spin quite fast without making any noise however when connected to the motherboard's pin connector they spin not faster than when the laptop is iddle nbsp So could that actually be the sensor on the motherboard fan nbsp or bios maybe Could try a bypass method by removing the fan sensor cable and have the fan spin at map rpm but i dont know if it is ok to and it would also be too noisy all the time even without doing anything nbsp heavy nbsp Sorry for the text wall but wanted to give as much info as possible thanks in advance nbsp Ntas nbsp P S if any additional info is required please feel free to ask

Hi everybody,
My old Latitude’s display is cracked and I wanna fix it.
I can’t replace it yet as one of the keyboard screws are stripped.

A:Latitude D600 – Cracked LCD

Filo_F,You can call the Dell Spare Parts Department at 1-877-717-3355 for ordering a replacement LCD as well as screws for the laptop. If the screw is striped there are tricks to removing a stripped screw. Below is one that may help:If you can find a thin enough one for the tiny screw, the best way to undo a stripped screw is with a rubber band. Just place the rubber band flat over the screw, and it will will in the gaps and provide enough friction to get the screw out.If you need to see other ways to remove that may work, search Google.

[B] Recently purchased my first laptop, a used Dell Latitude D600 with XP.
As a 70 year-old, I was not born with a PC in my crib.
Hence, a simplistic question.
"How to c&p?"
With a PC and mouse, I have been cutting and pasting all day long, but
I can't figure out how to do in on this laptop (with a touch pad instead of
a mouse or roller ball). Behind the touch pad are a R & L control buttons.
Hey, thanks!!

A:How to cut & paste on a Latitude D600

The touch pad is like the wheel of the mouse it moves the cursor around and the buttons are the same as the mouse buttons, select the text by holding down the left button while moving your finger across the touch pad, press the left button to pop up the menu and select copy, then paste using the right button again and selecting paste.

You can also use short cut keys after selecting the text Ctrl + C will copy and Ctrl + V will paste.

Hi, I have 2 issues with my Dell Latitude D600:

1. Battery lasts for 10 minutes before needing recharge - can someone suggest a brand of long lasting battery that I can replace mine with?

2. Laptop constantly writing to disk - sometimes when I open the laptop, it wakes from hibernation and takes a long time before the laptop reponses (because it is furiously writing to disk); other times, I am typing on a document and it will take forever for the laptop to respond, again, because it is writing to disk
a. Can upping the RAM help (it currently has 512mb)? Should I buy DELL RAM? Any suggestions for reliable RAM for my laptop?
b. Or, is the disk signalling that it is near its final leg?

I have a Latitude D600 that just recently stopped powering on with any consistency.  Most of the time the CAPS LOCK light flashes 9 times and the system powers off.  If I am lucky enough to see the system power up, it locks up within a minute and then it's back to the CAPS LOCK light again.  I have tried removing, moving, reseating and swapping RAM to no avail.  I have also unplugged the CMOS battery without success.  I have seen a lot of posts on this same problem on this site, but it seems like there are as many "fixes" as there are posts.  Is there an error code listing somewhere I could look at to see exactly what this means?  I don't mind replacing parts, as long as I'm not just guessing. Thanks

A:Latitude D600 flashing caps lock

Reseat the RAM, battery, drives and any cards in the system. Verify that the LED on the AC adapter is ON before you plug in the notebook end. If it is not, the adapter is faulty; replace it. If it is on and the problem persists, the flashing caps lock indicates a mainboard failure. While the board can be replaced, it is a very expensive part (on the order of $400 for the board).

I've got a Latitude D600 with a 1.4Ghz processor, and I'm getting ready to transfer all the components over to a new base unit and motherboard which has a 1.6Ghz processor. I know where all the components in the current unit are located, but I will concede that I'm a little hazy on where my Mobility Radeon 9000 display adapter is located. Does anyone know where that's hiding?

So the story.

I was Formating a Dell Latitude D600 for a client. I install the OS. Then proceded to the dell website for the driver, I then went through the process of downloading and installing them.

I tested the machine and Lone behold i forgot about the bluetooth driver. Which i then went and download. I went throught the install instructions. It asked me to in Restart (Like a good boy i did)

When i say nothing, the bluetooth light will flick for less and a second and the power light will stay on for about 10.

There is nothing from the CPU, HD or Fan.

Any help would be great. I was thinking about doing a Hard Bios reset.

Joseph mate best leave as is after all it was made to function as it came. Now for the compound and copper shim personally I would not bother with the copper shim I can see no good reason for it the dual pipe again if it was made to work with one pipe then leave alone.

It is better if you renew the compound using a decent cleaner and compound and I can recommend these for that job

Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean for thorough cleaning and preparation and Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5 for the compound.

Now it depends on who you listen to but I always use these products and after the old compound is thoroughly cleaned off and the surfaces prepped I spread the compound very thinly and across the both entire surface of the CPU and the heatsink with my finger inside a vinyl or latex glove and then place a rice grain sized piece of compound on the CPU and replace the heatsink. If you touch the surfaces after clean and prep then redo it.

While you are in there do make sure the fan and the radiator are really spotless and I sometimes relube the fan bearings to make sure the fan is running at full tilt when needed.

My problem is that it recently won't come out of standby when I raise the cover. Tapping keys doesn't help.

A:Dell Laptop D600

Did you mean to mark this as Solved? If so what did you do to solve it?

If it was marked Solved by accident then the error would indicate the hard drive is not being detected by the system, try removing and reconnecting it. If that fails then your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

I have problem with my dell D600, it can not shut down. the only way that works is pushing power button. ctrl+alt+del also does not work. can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks so much.

A:Dell D600 can not shut down

The reason the computer won't shut down is that there is something running in the background that XP can't shut down. It could be a thread in a wait state, or any number of things that have a hook in the kernel and won't let go.

Try running chkdsk /r from a command prompt. It will tell you that it will schedule a chkdsk on the next reboot, type y. It should still run even if you have to use the power button to reboot.

After running chkdsk, have your XP installation CD handy and try running sfc /scannow.

A:Dell D600 Not Powering Up

Zenosincks said:

Err, by "The unit was working but powering it up was always hit and miss" do you mean it has always experienced trouble while trying to start up? Clarify this please .

Assuming the following:

Everything is connected properly (if you've disconnected anything in the past, you've checked the system's motherboard manual and are 100% certain everything is connected properly)

You have tried a different outlet and power cord
This is a new or semi-new occurrence
You at one point at a fully functional system (it powered on just fine)
Pressing the power button yields absolutely no results (no fans/lights/noises)

I'd try replacing the power supply first. See if you can borrow one from another system...Click to expand...

I was given the laptop and on reading across the net this seems to be a common problem. The unit worked for a bit but was intermittent. I think Its the same powered by battery or mains. I will try this with a known working psu.
