Q: OK! Select Language: English (United Kingdom), English (United States)

Hi there,
When choosing the Win 10 install I am given these options:
Select Language: English (United Kingdom), English (United States)

are there any major differences? apart from the obvious one - certain words are spelt differently...

thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just got new SSD - Transcend 128GB. Installed Windows. When I cold boot my PC -- from a shut off state -- I get this message before Windows loads: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."

However, if I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and reboot I come into Windows.

If I enter BIOS from cold boot, it does not detect my SSD. After rebooting it detects my SSD. Seems like the SSD is slow at firing up?

I have run chkdsk and memory test without any errors.

My motherboard is the MSI Z87-G55.

A:"Reboot and select proper boot device"

Just installed newest BIOS, it didn't help.

When I go into Board Explorer in BIOS it says SATA port 1 is empty. After reboot it says the same port is occupied by my SSD.

Update: Plugged in another hard drive (non-SSD). Same rules apply to it. On cold boot, none of the drives are detected. After reboot, both drives are detected. I used a non-SSD as system drive before this, worked perfectly.

A:Error: "Please reboot and select proper boot media" on new build

Did you try running "fixmbr" or "fixboot" from the repair console? Here's a M$ support page on that: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392

Are you saying that updating from Windows Update trashed the install?

Or, the BIOS in most new boards comes set to run as IDE. Have you tried setting the HDD to "AHCH". (I think that would be called directly, "SATA" in an AMD based board).

Plan "B" always involves trying to boot from a Linux CD to attempt to access and copy your data files, before a drastic measure like zeroing out the drive

This is probably an issue with SATA drivers. One vital piece of information is missing from your post, what version of windows are you using and is it already installed on the hard drive?

Till yesterday everything was fine. Today when I tried to run my computer following message appeared on my screen; 'Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device' I completely have no idea what the problem is as it happened to me for the first time.. My HDD is working/running but somehow I think my computer its not reading it, no clue why. Maybe its SATA cable fault?
I have no idea how to check where the problem comes from?

Can someone help?

Sorry for my English. Hopefully u know what I mean..

A:Reboot & select proper boot device or insert..

Did you check the boot priority in BIOS? It should be HDD first.
Still, you can try another SATA cable just to try if it is ok,

Hello, everyone.
I have a rather old Dell computer with a Nvidia GeForce2 MX 400 graphics card. I want to upgrade it because it is about to die...however, as far as I know (I'm a newbie in all this stuff), not all cards match a particular motherboard, especially an old one, so how do I choose one that WOULD work? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

A:How to select an upgrade for Nvidia GeForce2 MX 400

You will have to check the type of expansion slots that you have on your system (PCI/PCI-E/AGP). I presume the GeForce 2 MX400 is an AGP card.

For a new GPU you'll also probably have to change your power supply unit.

If the HD hasn't failed, you've installed something improperly.
Remove the new memory and triple-check your connections.

Nvidia 8600GT (Not the actual one, some Chinese fake card which is equivalent to 8400gs)

so wht sort of gfx upgrade is most ideal for me ? eg:- i can afford up to HD 4850 but if i can play it well on a cheaper card it will be an advantage. btw i might also need a psu upgrade since the one i'm using is a generic brandless one

Please advice. Thanks

A:Help me to wisely select a new graphics card

Yes you will need to upgrade your power supply.

Now frankly, you won't really be running GTA4 too well on a $120 budget, while the 4850 is strong enough, you have to throw in a power supply into your budget too. Just as a side note, your processor is decent, I think it could be worth investing about $180 for a CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail and a XFX HD-485X-YDFC Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail.

I bought a language CD set, and I do like it. The one thing I do not like is using the CDs every time I want to work with it. I have a Dell inspiron mini 10 with the external CD drive. The reason I bought the mini was for portability, but carrying the CD drive negates some of the advantages. How can I load the CDs on the hard drive and work from it, rather than the CD? I appreciate any help with this.

A:How do I save my language CDs on my hard drive and work from there?

This all depends on the software.
Not all programs let you copy the CD to your HD to make it work. If you tell us what software it is, it may help. What does the program access the CD for? Is there an option in the program, of where to look for certain files?

Hi guys, I downloaded a movie (Asterix and the Olympic Games) but found that the sound track was in French. I was wondering if there was a way I could change the language of the track or download either english subtitles or sound track and then combine it with the video.

Thank you.

A:Video Sound Language

You won't be able to combine them. Even if it were possible with editing software (it may be) the timing would be off. You have to try to find another copy in English...

Hello,

First timer. I just got a pc from my roommate that he wasn't using. When I turn it on, it gives me the screen saying
"reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media"
I pressed F2 to try to switch up the boot priority and the only option it shows is the DVD/CD RW drive, does this mean I don't have a hard drive? I opened up the computer but I don't really know what I should be looking for. All I noticed was two wires that weren't plugged into anything so that added to the suspicion that the computer doesn't have a HDD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gabe

If you have a look at the drive on the right, that's what a hard drive should look like

I am assuming that you are using a desktop and not a laptop

Did have a nice pretty circle around it showing you, but it wouldn't let me upload that one

I have a Toshiba M700 tablet PC running Windows Vista ultimate 32-bit edition.

I wanted to run a program that requires me to have the non-unicode language set to Japanese.
I changed it to Japanese, and then proceeded to try and run the program.
Program runs fine.

I tried to connect my bluetooth headset to listen to my music. No luck. I get an error message about copy protection.

What's odd is that if I change the non-unicode language back to English, the headset connects just fine, and it doesn't complain about copy protection or anything.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.

A:Bluetooth malfunctions when language is changed

The bluetooth program you have installed is set to work on one user only
By changing the language it thinks you are another user

Does anybody know how to change the language of a scanner. We had to uninstall everything last year when our computer got a virus and the technician cleaned our hard drive. I reinstalled the software for the scanner and definitely selected English as the language we wanted but both times I tried it it came out in French.

We have worked out what words mean clear, preview and scan in French but cannot use any of the fine tuning buttons as we don't know what they say.

The Scanner is a Canoscan N656U and the programme is Canoscan Version 1.02

A:Cannon Scanner menu not in English

Use adda and remove to uninstall the scanner, then reinstall. That problem is not uncommon, but usually goes away. Use RegCleaner from www.majorgeeks.com to remove any remaining parts of the Scanner software, then reboot, then reinstall.
You might want to try downloading a later version of the Canoscan software.

you may want to look at your power supply. different optical drives consume power at different rates. If it didn't see the disk in the drive, there is a possibility that the drive was not powered up or spinning the disk at a speed fast enough to read the data. I see that you have a custom machine so its possible that with all the upgrades you now may need a beefier power supply. Thats just 1 of several possibilties. Whats the wattage on the one you have now?

I have two problems:
1)Ive reformatted my computer, booting from Windows Xp Genuine Kit, and deleting the partitions, and then reinstalling one. I had a problem with my product key, and got that figured out with microsoft. I loaded up into windows, started installing the MOBO drivers (InstAll, with my ASUS P5B-SE), Games, Files. I was asked to restart, and in which case, I ended up seeing the message...
"Unable to boot from device, Insert media and select boot device, or press a key to continue"
I cannot overcome this message. Ive reconnected everything inside, checked fan's and my drives. Cant figure this out, and im about to lose it. Spent 200 bucks for WGAK and now my comp isnt working? WTF?
2) My computer now shuts off after about 4-8 seconds from turning on

MOBO: Asus P5B-SE
RAM: 3g DDR
VC: Ati Radeon
Proc: 3.3ghz

Help, Thanks!

Try this

strip the board down, use one stick of memory and just the video card.

Remove the data cable to the CD\DVD Drive fully (ie take the data cable out of the computer - unplugged from motherboard end)

Confirm the Harddrive data cable is seated correctly in the Harddrive, and in the motherboard (even detach and re-attach)
Confirm the power plug into the Harddrive is seated correctly (even detach and re-attach)

Turn on the computer
Does it now boot?
If so, shutdown normally, and securely attach the data cable back to the CD\DVD Drive
Turn back on
Does it now boot?

If it is, then press F2 as soon as you see the stat screen. If you get into BIOS, find the "Reset to defaults" option and select it, save settings and reset.

Repost with what happens.

Best,

I have absolutely no idea what I m doing I tried to get my desktop computer set boot or boot device? insert proper select device and selected boot media Reboot in up for the school year but found myself with a Blue Screen Error every time I would turn it on I had this problem on my laptop just weeks earlier and when I turned it into the shop they informed me that it was caused by corrupted RAM So Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device? instead of wanting to Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device? pay another to get the desktop fixed I chose to take out the RAM myself Bad idea For some reason the RAM appeared to be melted or scratched away a little bit at the bottom Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device? gold part that goes into the slot So I took that RAM out Only now when I turn on the computer it gives me a screen saying quot reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device quot I go into the Boot Menu and it gives me two options both bringing me back to the same quot reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device quot message I tried taking out a RAM drive from a different desktop computer and putting it into the one I m trying to fix but then the monitor wouldn t read the computer being on I switched monitors but to no avail I switched RAMs from other computers but that doesn t work either I can t afford to take this into the shop or buy new parts for it but I really need it for school I don t even care about it running slower or files on their disappearing forever I just want my computer to run So how does a person with no skills get their computer to run nbsp

A:Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device?

I just want to be clear here (point form is sometimes good)

PC Bluescreens
Removed Ram (looks to be physically faulty, gold plate scratched off)
Turned on computer (not sure if you re-inserted the original Ram here again)
Now cannot find HardDrive boot sector
Tried Ram from another (unknown) computer (Note: Ram specs may be incorrect)
Would not POST (Power On Self Test)
Put the original Ram back in
From here, I don't know what's happening, probably not Booting again (ie your long heading)

This is what I recommend (even though I'm still a little unsure where your at!)

Remove the Ram (By the way 1 or 2 Ram Cards?)
Blow out (either compressed air in a can, or just using your breath) the Ram slots
Re-insert the Ram (you usually just need one in there to test with) Note: They click in
Unplug the cables going to your HardDrive (HardDrive end and Motherboard end)
Re-insert the HardDrive data cable (securely)
Do the same for the HardDrive Power Connector (pull it out, then push it in with a little force)
Now do the same for the CD/DVD Drive data and power cables (you can even just leave these cables fully out)

Turn on !

Did it work?

A:Vaio VGN-A190: Reboot and select proper boot device error

Found this at another site:

Recheck the jumper on the HDD and make sure it is configured right.
Also check the BIOS setting for LBA Enabled on the HDD.

Check to see if there is a legacy controller option enabled in the BIOS. Disable it and then try booting up.

3 more options:

1) Boot sequence is performed through a ROM memory module...as such there may be an issue with the memory not releasing and locking up the system...remove all power systems and batteries to reset the BIOS and ROM memory modules.

2) You could have a faulty power supply and is keeping it from booting properly

3) Faulty mobo

Both 2 and 3 are possible even if it does accept a BIOS update.

I'm in L.A. at the moment, trying to fix my cousin's cd tray issue, now its become a rebooting issue. I went into the BIOs and it recognises the HDD. and i set it up to boot from the HDD first but I'm still getting the "Reboot and select proper boot device" error. Is there a way to fix this w/o having to do the windows installer.

p.s. the CD trays are NOT working.

Means it is not finding any valid bootmanager

There are ways to repair the bootmanager, ie

You could try bootcfg /rebuild

But in most cases you just need to select one of the following

Microsoft's Windows XP Professional Repair Install step by step

A:Need to select new mobo - and power?

A motherboard doesn't come with a processor. If you want an AMD processor search for an AMD motherboard. Socket AM2 or AM2+ 64 bit processors and a motherboard that supports AM2 or AM2+ CPU's are good. Just choose a board and processor that suits your budget. If you are in the US you can start looking here http://www.newegg.com and look at the motherboard specs for the type of memory it takes. DDR2 memory may be what you need to get. Everything else may work... A SATA hard drive may be needed too for this upgrade. A good 450 watt power supply should work fine

Normally doing this, would not affect your data from returning to the proper jumper position.

You can try ZAR to recover your files : http://www.z-a-recovery.com/unformat-tutorial.htm

There are many other data recovery programs H E R E.

Note:

This is by plugging in the drive as Slave of course

I didn't find any settings where you can change the language and I donno if it is possible to do that with the phones software.
you could try to reset the device. press and hold the power on button and at the same time press the reset button with the stylus (see attached pic)
if you need the data try to make a backup first. all data that have not been installed originally will be lost on reset.

you could also ask help & support at http://www.o2.co.uk for an "english firmware" !?

A:Help-Reboot Select Proper Boot Device?

Some optical drives may work well in windows (normal use) but on boot, fail.
This is because the boot record placement on the front most of the windows disc, may not be seen, due to poor optical error of the drive itself.

Or in laymans, have you tried another cd/dvd drive ?

Other errors can be the disc itself has been scratched or generally marked, causing corruption (or faulty disc) itself.

Or, have you tried cleaning the cd ?

Another concern is the computers and cd/dvd drive ata data cable being incorrectly fitted; damaged; or excessive length (non standard)

Or, please try swapping the cd/dvd data cable.

The cd/dvd drive jumper configuration: either cable select or master, may need to be adjusted.
I've found this on a few cd/dvd drives, that some work better on cs (the norm) whilst others (even new hardware) seem to work better on master.
Please check the jumper switch position on the back of your cd/dvd drive.

Only other option is non-original windows disks (ie burnt copies) as this area can be huge, on disc type and quality, i'll just ask, is it original?

Lastly, you may need to set CMOS to 1st 2nd 3rd to cd/dvd if possible. Then return it to 1st cd/dvd 2nd hdd on first restart.
Some computers are just too quick!

A:"Reboot and Select proper Boot device or..."

Well, to put it simply, there's nothing on the disk.
When you buy a fresh new hard drive, the drive is empty and unformatted. You can't put a brand new hard drive into a computer and expect it to boot into the OS right away.
It doesn't boot into Windows because there is no Windows OS on the drive.

You need to go into the BIOS and set your optical drive to be first on the boot priority, and then find a Windows XP disc to boot on.
I doubt your OEM computer comes with a Windows disc (though it might come with recovery discs), but it should have a sticker on it with your Windows XP product key. You need to find a disc and install your operating system before you can use your computer.

A:How to Backup Select Programs and Files on my Toshiba Satellite Before Reinstall

1. Norton Ghost, Nero Backup or other backup utilities, some are free as well.. these type of backup is taking a image snapshot, and some of them can take just snapshots of a certain folder/groups/drives/files (selective backup). Once backed up, you may need to reinstall teh programs or re add their registry keys, file associations etc (if you know what they are, easyer just reinstalling..). Media to backup to can be tape, cd/dvd, anohter hdd, network storage etc...

2. the toshiba cd is just like a windows xp cd, but only for that certain laptop, and does a full wipe and reinstall of the OS plus its customised software and drivers.. if you dont want those customised software, then just use a retail winxp cd and use the licence key on the bottom of the laptop.. but i havn;t tried that before...

I have just joined this site and the reason why was was because When I down loaded MCafee it stated it had detected I was using Windows 98 but I am on Windows Me. When I bought this pc for my son a few years ago it came with windows 98 but my son changed it to Windows Me. I bought my son a new PC and he gave me this for my studies. (wish I kept the new one now but he has just started Uni so) How can I rectif this I am a novice on IT but before I went onto broadband alot of drivers were missing I.e for my installed modem which came with windows 98. A:Xp States hard drive not formatted ! (Oh yes it is ) Help please

How big is your power supply? WATTS I mean. If you only have 350W It might not be enough to power those HDDs you'll see them not show up under Windows. They may show up when you first bootup the PC. Also if the PS is okay then check your IDE Ribbon cables for color changes. They don't last forever. You might have to replace them also.

I have a dual boot 98se and xp on one hd. 40gig 7200 seagate.
It is set to master ide1 and as i am starting to get a few problems that are annoying but liveable I am installing xp pro onto the spare hd 30 gig maxtor on raid 1.

My question is
In order to boot from the maxtor I am having to swop the jumper over and then swop the IDE cables, Is the cable select for this instance? also I have no paperwork for the maxtor and the Maxtor site just gives too much info what I need to know is the jumper options will they be the same as the seagate as they are not marked on the case.
I know that far left looking from behind is master, no jumper is slave but the rest I dont know.

thanks

A:Hard drive select question

What's the models of HD's you're working with? I could get the jumper settings for you.

You should be able to select what OS you want to boot from at startup then.

Hello guys,

My English teacher has given us two .MP3 files. They are small stories in English language. We should first write a summary about that then translate the whole text into our native language. It is an exercise!
If it was a text I could write a brief text about it and also translate it into our native language immediately. But the problem is that since the speed of the English-language narrator man is very quick I can't completely understand what he says.

I tried to find some apps to convert voice to text and installed some of them but no one worked properly!

Is there any idea how to convert those .MP3 English files to text?
It's an emergency and I'll be very thankful if someone can help me.

A:Difficulty with a .MP3 English file and Voice to text converter

I don't think there is any way of doing that. A trick that I've found useful in my efforts to learn a foreign language is to play the mp3 file in Apple's Quick Time Player (Free). You can alter the playback speed. There are several slow speed options. At the extreme it all sounds zombie like but things are much easier to follow.

During Microsoft's big announcement earlier today that Windows 10 will arrive this summer, the company also revealed that it is working with Xiaomi to test its new operating system among power users.

A:Microsoft is providing select Xiaomi users with a ROM to put Windows 10 on their Android smartphones

And who knows, perhaps this sort of thing could catch on to the point where handsets are sold as barebones devices that allow users to select the OS of their choice during the setup processClick to expand...

If you would have said that a year ago I would have laughed it off but not it seems like that might really be the way of the future.

There hasn't been any real innovation in the smartphone segment for the last few years, interchangeable parts on smartphones may very well be the way of the future, there just doesn't seem to be anyway to improve on what's already here without some drastic improvement like upgradability.

As far as making Windows 10 free to android users seems like a very smart move on Microsoft's part. There are currently more android phones in peoples pockets than any other smartphone. Making their OS free to them is a very easy way to get their OS in everyone's pocket.

A:ACPI Power states - Force G3/S6 from Windows. (vs mechanical)

You don't much mention having poked around in the bios, which is where most power settings originate. It remains an awful fact that MS power saving settings always have been, are now, and probably always will be, a total and utter mess. Especially on portables.

It is possibly understandable (I don't say forgivable) because the functionality is fundamentally split between the OS and the bios (which MS has no control over). Although there are supposed to be standards - you mention G5 and S6 yourself - the fact is those standards do not get finalised until long after manufacturers have been churning out kit corresponding to their own idea of what the standard might end up being. Only point 3 below solves that one - sometimes.

In short, you may never get fully compliant action on power settings, but........some sensible suggestions are:
(1) Create a new, personal power policy, and give it a personal name. Do this while logged in as your major user, and if you have more than one normal user, create a new one for each user. This often works, but only until the next major MS update.
(2) If the above fails to work for you, you can do no better than full shut down each time from the screen start button, and will have to live with that. It's very easy to add a desktop icon to make this simple
(3) FOR EXPERTS ONLY. Update the motherboard bios to the latest available. Never attempt this without complete knowledge as it is very easy to end up with an expensive door-stop.

A:Get 'Reboot & select proper boot device' error message when booting from win 7 DVD

Advise you should read the motherboard manual. If your motherboard is virtually new, you might have to surmount problems like secure boot, EUFI bios, and you may, for instance have to jump through hoops like 'go to Boot in BIOS and enable the option Launch CSM and sub option Launch PXE OpROM.' just to get the DVD drive bootable.

I'm having an issue regarding a game I'm attempting to reinstall on my computer.
The game was purchased from the authors.(Track Mania United Forever) Key login numbers were sent. This was then plugged in and the program worked fine.

After a matter which caused me to have to uninstall the program and to then reinstall the program, I have encountered an issue which states that the login key (provided by the company) is invalid. I wrote their support team and they then promptly sent me a new login key which in fact, does not work either! (invalid login key)

I have checked all necessary login user names have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. have tried the original login group of numbers.

are there things that could be tried to bring about a resolution?

Hi,

I'm using now Windows Mail for my personal mail.

When I Create a New Message and then click on the To: button to select the recipients for the new message then a list of the addresses of all my previous messages (sent and received) comes up for selection; those addresses are located on the folder <E:\Users\Victor\Contacts\other>.
That -although useful- is not what I really want; I'd like to see ONLY the list of addresses from my Contacts.

I've been browsing throughout the commands, configurations and options to set Contacts as my default list of recipients but I haven't been able to find anything to do that.

Any ideas?

I'm trying to learn Assembly language but all the tutorials that I've read on the Internet are so confusing. They just go on and on about registers and bytes and don't tell me how to use them in a real debugger. I want to actually learn what they do in real life as I'm learning. Do you guys know any tutorials that are good and easy to understand? I know how to program in C++, Java, and Basic but I don't think that will help me with learning Assembly.

A:Help me find a good tutorial for learning Assembly Language

Uhm.. If you don't know what registers and bytes are, then assemply is plain useless. You might as well say "I want to learn C++, but I don't want to know about variables or classes".

Also, in 99.9% of the cases you don't need to go to the assembler level in debugging. Modern debuggers are advanced enough to let you step through source code and examine variables at the same time.

You need assembler skills if you are debugging routines with no source available or if you suspect compiler errors.

All help is highly appreciated

Thanks in advance

My computer completely locked up while playing a game and I had to do a hard reboot. Now I continuously get the error:

"Reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

The only thing I can manage to pull up is the CMOS Setup Utility. Looking through the menu I found the Boot sequence menu; however, the only device listed is cd/dvd and I read that hard drive should be listed.

Any ideas on a possible problem?

I am thinking that my hard drive might be shot because I am almost positive it is not due to loose cables. On the other hand I was thinking that it could possibly be due to a virus because I had found a Trojan earlier with my virus scanner.

Appreciate any feedback I can get.

Hi. Im just wondering if ne1 knows the best programming language to chosse. I've tried dark basic to make 3D games. Im wondering is there any programming language that can do everything. Like make 2D and 3D games, have internet commands, registry commands, system commands. I dont think visual basic. NET can make 3D games. A:Programming Language

You can make games in anything. It just depends on your skills and devotion.

If you want to make a game worth anything you should choose the language you are the most comfortable with. And also try to get a hold of some realism when judging your skills

You don't even have to use a programming language to make a (not so impressive) game.
Have you heard of tools like "Games Factory", "PIE 3D", Milkshape 3D?

What do you want to achieve? What is your background? Do you actually have the money to pay for some developer tools?

If you want to write casual Windows snippets then you may want to learn/use VB even though everyone will laugh at you. For simple things in Unix world you can use Perl or TCL.

If you want to get into "serious" programming you want to learn Java and then move on to C++.

If you want to write real applications right away, you may like Delphi..

hello, i recenty got a problem: when booting my pc a black screen comes up and it says "reboot and select proper boot device"

now i've seen similar topics, but none had a problem quite like mine.

i haven't changed anything in my pc that is related to hardware, i just instaled a game called "4story" and when i launched about a minute later windows froze, commands like alt+tab, alt+f4, ctrl+alt+del didn't work so i rebooted and that is when the black screen came up.

i can freely access BIOS, but i don't know how to work with them. from what i've read it is posible that BIOS just don't reconise pc's hdd and it's needed to turn it back on through BIOS, though i don't know how to do that or will that even work.

any help will be apreciated.

A:Reboot and select proper boot device

I think the game is trying to use drivers that are not compatible with your hardware.

So, ... can you boot to safe mode? Here is how...
Turn the system off,
wait a few seconds,
turn the system back on, and press f8, (repeatedly if necessary.)
It will bring you to a "black screen" with several options, including "safe mode".
Select "safe mode", (Not "safe mode with networking").
Go into your "Control Panel", ("Start" -> "Control Panel") then select "add/Remove programs"
Then uninstall the software you just installed.
I suspect this will get your system back.

Let me know if this works.
If not, we'll try something else.
If it does work, we can then troubleshoot why the game didn't run properly on your system,

Hello Javascript Gurus,

Is there a way to put the following HTML-coding into a Javascript file? (something.JS)

<SELECT NAME="Surname" CLASS="quoteform"><br>
<option selected>Select Surname
<option>Connolly
<option>Gallagher
<option>O'Brien
etc.
</select>

I have a webpage with photos of Family Crests and crested paraphernalia, each of which is only available in the (selectable) Surnames.

Crested items are available in different groups of names. Rather than having the same SELECT code under each photo, I would prefer to call up a Javascript, in which I can stick the complete selection.

Any sample-scripts greatly appreciated.

I searched the WWW intensively, but no samples found.

Run this fix reg file :http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/langbarrestore.reg
You may need to right click on it, and select "Save As"
Once downloaded (to Desktop?)
Right click again on it, and select merge (Yes, ok)
Restart to test all's now ok

I know this probably sounds a bit silly really, but the Language Bar thing on hte taskbar (Win XP Home) comes up, which is fair enough, but i'm looking for a way to make it stay gone, if you know what i mean. I've right clicked on the taskbar a few times and unticked it from the "Toolbars" menu but it just comes up again when i start my pc up. So basically, does anyone know how to get rid of it and stop it coming up again? Thanks if you reply to this.

A:"Language Bar" won't go away

From HERE

To close the Language bar (using Classic view in Control Panel):
1 Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and Language Options.
2.On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
3.Under Preferences, click Language Bar.
4.Deselect the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.

Or from HERE

Hi All...

At work, i've got to write a complicated quotation program.
The catch is that i've already written it - on a Apple II many years ago in BASIC...

Now ive got to do it all over again for the PC...
But i don't know which BASIC program to use - Ive only heard of Visual BASIC - any others out there...

If anyone can remember far back, i'd like it as similar as APPLE II Basic which is almost identical to the Sinclair Spectrum's Basic..

Like:-
100 ?"Hello"
110 Input a$
120 If a$="goodbye" then gosub 500
etc etc...

I know i could use emulators, but i'd rather not in this case...

Anyone help me??

A:Which BASIC programming language to use??

Cheers Rick...

Guess i never really thought about that - Yes, if its going to be similar then IT has to be in DOS (command prompt)...

So QBASIC and GWBASIC are the only two that you've heard of??

I am running Win XP Pro and I keep right clicking on the task bar to turn off the language bar but when I restart it comes right back on. How can I turn this off.

A:Language bar

Not quite sure how you get a language bar in the task bar, but I suggest you actually uninstall the languages you do not need. This is at Control panel / regional and language options.

Ok, I'm learning C++ (teaching myself). I understand code, I know HTML very well and other things, however most of what I knew was higher then C++, so I never learned how to translate that. I eventually plan to move on to Assembler, but I'd rather get c++ down first. My problem is this.

How do I determine the state of the bits from a hex offset? For instance, if I have 0x1ff, or 0x1fe, or 0xfff, how do I determine what the bits are at that moment?

Thanks a lot!

A:Help with finding bit states?

So you want to check individual bits in a number or individual bits in a bit array?

For checking bits, you use the bitwise AND (&).

If you want to chek for the first bit (LSB), you & the number with 0x1 (0000 0001 binary).
If the result is zero (false), the bit was not set.

if(chicken & 0x2) { // If bit 2 is set, do something

For the second bit, you & the number with 0x2 (0000 0010 binary) .
For the third bit, use constant 0x4 (0000 0100 binary).

If you want to set bits, use the bitwise OR (|).

Set first bit in varaible 'chicken':
chicken |= 0x1;

For clearing bits, AND with inversed constants.

Clear bit #4 in 'chicken':
chicken &= 0xF7; // 1111 0111 binary

If you want to flip a bit, use XOR (^).
Flip bit 2 in 'chicken':
chicken ^= 0x2;

Some compilers also support some less standard ways of accessing individual bits
(Borland for example), that are somewhat simpler to use.

If you hava a huge array of bits, and want to find the value of nth bit in that array:

- Divide the bit offset by 8 , you'll get a byte offset to the previous byte.
- Read the next byte.
- Use the remainder from the division in a 'switch' to get access to individual bits.

Of course, you could serach the net and find heaps of libraries containing functions
to do bit manipulations and save yourself the trouble.

I want to set up a job that will do the following:

copy C:\folder1 to D:\folder1
copy C:\folder2 to D:\folder2.

I can't seem to find the language to do this.

I plan to set this job up to run once a week. That's the easy part--Task Scheduler. But how do I set up the language or instructions to actually copy from one file to another? If Windows 98 (or XP) has the language or facilities to do this, is there any special name I must give the file with the instructions? And how do I get an icon (the icon can be any old icon I can find) onto my desktop that will be a short cut to these instructions?

A:Windows language or facilities for COPYing files?

xcopy /e /v /c /g /h /r /o /y c:\folder1\*.* d:\folder1Click to expand...

copy it into notepad and save it as a .bat file, then set it to run once a week in the task scheduler

go to the command line, and type "xcopy /?" (without the quotes) to see what each of the switches I've included do.

Is it possible to transfer boot files from one hard drive to another proper boot removing "Reboot select device" and drive when one I have hard drives S-ATA one is a GB and the other is a TB I have Windows XP installed on the TB drive yet I "Reboot and select proper boot device" when removing one drive notice that these bootup folders and files are on the GB drive RECYCLE BIN RECYCLER System Volume Information AUTOEXEC BAT boot ini CONFIG SYS IO SYS MSDOS SYS NTDETECT COM ntldr pagefile sys Therefore when I wanted to use this GB drive for another computer that had a defective hard drive I backed up all the important data from the drive then I took the drive out then booted the computer back up just to make sure it still works That s when I got that quot Reboot and select proper boot device quot error I guess this is because the boot files got created on the GB drive which is NOT the drive that Windows XP is installed onto instead of the TB drive So what I d like to know is if I can somehow just copy the folders and files including hidden ones and then be able to boot from the TB drive I doubt it would be that simple but there MUST be a way to transfer the boot information to the TB drive Does it have something to do with BootMBR or Windows Recovery or something like that I don t want to change anything until I get some opinions from others Thanks nbsp

recently i woke up, went in my computer room, and saw the screen was black with the following message displayed
"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device"

so i rebooted and windows started fine

couple days later same thing happened, only it won't reboot, just comes back to the same screen

the hard drive is the only thing showing bios (samsung hdd), but when i hook up as slave drive to another comp, it only shows the usb/sata adapter, not the drive, also noticed the dreaded hard drive clicking noise, i really don't want to send to a data recovery company due to cost, but my family photos are on there and i have no backups, are there any other options?

Ok i can view chinese fonts correctly like webpages and emails, but when i download a chinese program which is originally chinese (simplified or traditional) all the characters are just garbage.
I have already installed fonts via control panel, but chinese programs just dont display correctly, is there a way to fix this.

A:How can i view chinese programs on a english xp computer correctly

As far as I know, there is nothing you can do about it aside from getting the Chinese version of XP.

I have heard that Vista will be able to switch the user interface to various languages, but XP (as far as I know) can not do this.

Note: the opposite in XP works fine. If you have Chinese XP, you can install ANY English software no problem. XP chinese version is built on top of the English version so all English software works. But the English version has no idea what Chinese characters are, and just messes them all up.
