Windows 10 Updates stuck at 99% and SkypeSetup.exe fails to download.

Q: Windows 10 Updates stuck at 99% and SkypeSetup.exe fails to download.

Hi, I have recently installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. And got few updates and installed automatically. But then the updates got stuck at 99%. Its been stuck for 4 days straight. Currently its trying to download, "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. driver update for AMD Radeon HD 6450". But its STUCK at 99%.
.
And also I cant Download SkypeSetup.exe file. from any browser, IE, Firefox, Chrome. And The apps from the STORE are also stuck. Later I found out that I am having trouble downloading the EXE. files. They always get stuck at the end, or at the beginning, or sometimes never even attempt to download.

I hope to get a quick response.

Please Help.

With kind regards.
Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Windows 10 Updates stuck at 99% and SkypeSetup.exe fails to download.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Windows Update fails to download updates after crash

Hello Valle, welcome to SF!

This sometimes happens when, for some reason, things are not updated in the right order. There are loads of other reasons but for me this is the most common.

Did you take a look at: Windows Update - Reset

It can help you reset the update history and put in what you want in the order advised.

Sometimes you don't want a specific update. That is when you use this: Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

Hello,

I just got a new Windows 7 Pro Dell Inspiron laptop. I was trying to download and install all the Windows Update available, but the download stuck at 0% for a long time and will not proceed any further. I have run the Windows Update FixIt tool, run the WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool, nothing help.

I got this error: "windows update service registration is missing or corrupt" when I ran the Diagnostic.

I have tried several other "solutions" and still no help. And I have temporarily disable my anti-virus programs as well, no help.

Any comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you.

What is preventing MS monthly patches (updates) from downloading? It is Saturday and since Wednesday, my system has been trying to download these updates and using ±50% CPU of a svchost.exe (stsyem) file. I've been looking for a solution and wanted to get another opinion if this would work without compromising my system:

change download setting to "Never check for updates"
reboot
download and install June 2016 rollup for Windows 7 SP1 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3161608)
reboot
change download setting to "Install updates"

A:Windows Updates Fails configuring updates and reverts back

Hi bro,I had the same problem 3 days ago and I have solved the problem so, I think, I can help you, first of all I need to know if you have any antivirus tool intalled on your computer,if it so,[download CLEANER sofware from filehippo.com-it's important]uninstall them, for this action use safe mode by pressing F8 button, when you boot with safe mod you will not be able to uninstall your antivirus, because you have loaded only the drivers that needs safe mod, that's why you must delete your antivirus manually, for best result go to control panel-->folder options-->mark "show hidden files, folders, archives" apply and ok then go to user folder and open AppData\Local\"antivirus folder" and delete it,after this open AppData\Roaming\"antivirus folder" and delete it as well,at the end,you have to delete the main folder of your antivirus, that is installed on C or another drive.for example:C:\Program Files\ESET.After that open cleaner go to REGISTRY and scan for issues and if you get[I am sure you will get errors] any problem, fix them[delete them, you don't need to save registry settings before deleting] after cleaning registry, you have to run cleaner,so, go to software main window and press RUN CLEANER button[it's the last step] and restart your computer with normal mode. Now you can install updates and configure your windows safely.I hope this will help you

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:
6 GB RAM
AMD Athlon ll X4 750K
AMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3
Vista SP2

A:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silverlight today) so the secret might be to install updates in smaller batches instead of trying to install all dozen or so available updates in a single update session.

Hi, I wanted to go into safe mode on windows 7 but it kept stopping at classpnp.sys . After reading a few threads I read about using Msconfig and checking the safe mode option under "Boot". It still keeps staying at classpnp.sys and when I hit F8 and hit "Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)" it seems to be able to get trough and it says it's actually loading up safe mode but then it changes to a black screen and does not change from that screen. I would appreciate and information you guys have that could solve this problem. If any of you know a command I could type in cmd to bring up the msconfig while in repair mode I  could fix it because all I need to do is untick "Safe mode on startup"

Hey everybody.
So, when i woke up i saw an error on the windows update in the taskbar. Seems like the computer tried restarting but failed. Also the sound didnt work when i tried playing a file. So i rebooted the system. Computer went stright to system repair mode where it supposedly succeeded. Computer rebooted itself and in the windows screen i got the blue screen of death.
From there it went to the system repair which failed
- os is windows 7 64
- computer is up to date with antivirus. - cant get into safe mode but can get to bios options.
- saw some people had trouble with theKB3045999 windows update Including critical failure to reboot. Maybe thats it?
Last thing, when looking at the startup repair log it seems as if all the tests went fine but at root cause found: registry is corrupt.
Computer was in sleep mode the entire night.
Any help? Thanks you

I have been trying for a full week now, to no avail. Whenever I apply the update, it goes to the "Restarting" screen...and gets stuck there indefinitely. Even after a few hours, it's still on that screen. So ultimately I have to force shutdown my PC (after which I can use it as per normal). I also do not believe I have any malware on my PC (have scanned multiple times with Kaspersky just to be sure).

I had updated to Windows 8 > 8.1 > 10 on this same PC before and never faced a single issue. I also never mess around much with default system settings.

Meanwhile, for my laptop, the update went extremely smoothly.

So can someone please help me out here?

Thanks!

Disable (preferrably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before attempting the upgrade.Restart a few times then try again.Disable General USB Devices (example - Smart Card Reader). If you are using a SCSI hard disk, make sure you have drivers available for your storage device on a thumdrive and it is connected. During Windows 10 setup, click the Custom Advanced Option and use the Load Driver command to load the appropriate driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and setup still fails, consider switching to a IDE based hard disk.Perform a clean boot, restart then try again. If you are upgrading using the .ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during setup, if you are connected by LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi, disable both then attempt setup again. If you are updating through Windows Update, when the download reaches 100% disconnect from the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi then proceed with the installation. If that does not work, try using the .ISO file to upgrade if possible. If you are connected to a domain, switch to a local account. If you have any external devices attached to the machine, disconnect them (example, gaming controllers, USB keys, external hard disk, printers, non-essential devices).

I started out with this machine running Windows 8.1.  I don't know how it got there but it seemed more or less fine.I proceeded to install Windows 10 update but that failed in any number of ways using both the web interfaces and from DVDs within Windows.  I did want to retain all that could be retained. After many attempts at this, I gave up (although I did image the system and could go back).I restored the factory software which turned out to be Windows 8.It still refuses to accept many Windows updates. It just failed to install Windows 8.1.I seem to be getting further and further away from Windows 10 all the time! What is the secret formula?  :-)If I can retain the "oritinal" Windows 8.1 and files that would be great!I surely want to retain the Windows licensing.

After installation of Windows 10 on my B50-45, the laptop requested that I install "Lenovo Updates" which ends up being LU.exe  I did that, and now when I start the program from the Desktop shortcut it installed, I receive the error message "Network Problem".

This is not an Internet access problem, as all installed browsers work correctly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi there, Wizard-
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Would you have a problem with your Wi-Fi? Would you be using the updater under Lenovo Solution Center or similar to ThinkVantage System Update . (Troubleshooting System Update: on bottom of the Article)
You may also run Lenovo Solution Center for a Check-up > Hardware
" Warnings appear due to the state of the network your PC is connected to and not the state of the wireless LAN hardware in the PC.  For example, the user may not be connected to a wireless LAN network or the wireless LAN network may not have access to the internet. "

Update us how it goes.

My system continually attempts to install updates to Windows 10.  However upon download and attept to install, I receive a message that installation for updates was unsuccessful.  Then I wait 5 minutes while the system then uninstalls any changes.  I have changed settings to stop auto updates which has had no affect.  I also ran the automatic repare tool provided by Microsoft which had no affect either.

A:Windows 10 fails to install updates

Hi, Windows 10 is a Microsoft product. What is the error message ? One way to work on Windows updates: do not update all in one go, split them to few smaller batches and you will know which one failed. Regards.

Recently I have been having issues with Windows Update There are Three updates that I cannot install whether it be through Windows Update or downloading them manually from the Microsoft Website The update codes are KB KB amp KB When trying to update through Windows Update I get the error codes B amp Although when I try to install them by getting the updates from the website manually it notifies me that the updates only Update Windows fails with certain updates don't apply to my system even though they're for Winows I am still able to install definition updates and another XML update worked but not these Three I have run DISM to attempt to restore PC health which does not even run I also have run sfc scannow now multiple times but it always reports that it quot was unable to fix some of them quot I followed all the instructions in the posting thread and in the attachment section it says the max file size for a zip folder is MB although my CBS log is MB what should I do My version is Windows Bit Home Premium Thanks in advance

A:Windows Update fails with certain updates only

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons) Alternatively, upload the full set to your favoured fileshare site (preferably DropBox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Hi,

I installed the Win 7 RC on my system a few days ago and ran into problems after installing the following three updates:

KB970421
KB970423
KB970424

I have done a clean install a couple of times and each time after these three updates are installed when the system reboots it goes into the Startup Repair wizard and detects the problem as:

"missing or corrupt ndis.sys"

I have tried doing a system restore to a point prior to these updates being installed but I still see the same error. If I disable automatic updates and don't install these 3 updates the system is stable.

Has anyone else run into problems with these updates?

Thanks,
Mark

A:Windows 7 fails to boot after 5/26/09 test updates

Hi mgebhart, welcome to the forums.

Have you tried booting in safe mode? If you can get in on safe mode then you might want to try the following.

In the start menu search bar type CMD, right-click CMD when it appears & select 'Run as administrator'. Once open, type sfc /scannow which will scan your system file integrity & should restore any corrupt files.

Hope this helps

Hey guys,
I am having this problem quite a long time now. Whenever I want to install updates from windows update in order to be able to upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1, it shows me message while rebooting: Failure configuring Windows updates, Reverting changes, Do not turn off your computer. Then showing me couple of these multiple times:
and yes, you guessed it, I am once again where I started. I tried literally everything I found on the internet, and nothing ever worked. I just want to upgrade to Windows 8.1(which I can't aswell but I think the reason why, is Windows Update). My last chance is reinstalling Windows but I would like to solve this with different option. Thank you for any tips or anything that could eventually lead to solving this problem of mine.

Is this an update, fresh install, or pre-installed on your system?

Fixing oner or more of your failed updates may release the others as well, i see one of your updates requires you to download and run a particular file when it fails through windows update the file is delmigprov.exe

This is from the Microsoft website:
run delmigprov.exe to resolve an issue that could prevent Windows8-RT-KB2756872-x64.msu from being installed.

My computer is running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1. I've been having a recurring problem with Windows Update where, during the configuration of updates following the installation of updates during the previous shutdown, the screen that says "Configuring Windows updates - 0% complete - Do not turn off your computer." stays like that for around 5 minutes and the percent value never changes before the configuring fails and the desktop finally loads. It is recorded as update failed in the update history, all with error code 800705B4. The only way to install those updates properly is via Windows Update manually in the Control Panel.

Basically: It's the same problem as the situation described here. However, the solution posted there -- installing the System Update Readiness Tool -- didn't work.

Anyone know why it's occurring, and how to fix it?

I've only recently realised that my Windows 7 computer will not allow Windows Update to basically, run.

The last time it successfully ran was late August and every attempt since fails with Error No: 80096001

I cannot even run the SURT tool as requested by the Windows Update posting Instructions thread. Same error number in fact.

I have run the sfcscan as directed, and the logs are attached.

Once again, I look forward to some nice lady or gent offering help with thanks in advance.

I just downloaded 102 updates for Windows and Office it is approximately 600MB and above. After downloading, some updates maybe, 23 failed to install and 3 were said to be not needed. And I restarted my PC, after restarting, Windows Update prompts me to install the remaining updates which is not installed for the first time. Then It installs the 90% then restarts the machine, after restarting the remaining not installed updates installs successfully. What maybe the cause of that problem?

Sorry for the English. I'm Filipino

The failing updates are. :

exact same issue here! And it's those exact updates that won't install for me! This is frustrating! I tried uninstalling them and when I restart, I still get a loop of "Update failed, undoing changes" etc.

I had this problem before in Oct. 2006 with my computer at home and put drivecleaner 2006 on it and it corrected the problem. Now my symantec and pestpatrol caught it as spyware and and all and I'm kind of confussed on where to put it back on my computer or not! Any advice. I have Window XP Pro.

Drive Cleaner is a program that displays exaggerated reports of security and privacy risks on your computer. Before you can fix these risks, though, the program requires you to purchase the commercial version of the software. Due to this Symantec labels this program a security risk. Hi,

My Windows Updates fails Error Code :WindowsUpdate_80070652

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.71.471.0)

Any thoughts ??

A:Windows Updates fails Error Code :WindowsUpdate_8007065

Hi shyamsasinran,

This is interesting, for normal updates this code suggests that another install is in progress (I not sure if Windows Defender is the same). This error can also occur if a dll is loaded that it needs to access, or if the downloaded file is corrupt.
Some thoughts
- If the update is already downloaded, try to install it in safe mode.
- Try to download the latest WD definitions and install manually, get them from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center

Good Luck

Hello all My computer recently caught a virus and I had to reformat my computer I have reformatted this machine before without a single problem First problems appeared after the initial re-format and install Installing various games Fresh problems install, other updates and windows windows 7 fails and drivers would wind up alerting me that various dll files were missing After following a step guide to troubleshoot these errors nothing worked and the Fresh windows 7 install, windows updates fails and other problems final step was to conduct another fresh install of windows I was also considering that maybe my hard drive was going bad so I did a fresh install on my second hard drive and the same problems occurred I did however manage to get one of the installs to remain relatively stable but it still has the same problems And finally I purchased a brand new SSD samsung series and did a new fresh install to it Everything seemed to go fine until I began running Fresh windows 7 install, windows updates fails and other problems windows updates after getting Security essentials installed and my video drivers Windows updates got hung up on the on screen in application install screen in the middle of approximately updates I then clicked the stop installation button and nothing happened The updates screen would not change I left it alone for awhile and came back Still nothing I then told the computer to restart It then proceeded to hang on the shutdown screen i let this remain overnight hoping it would shut down It did Fresh windows 7 install, windows updates fails and other problems not I was forced to hard reset the system and now the same issue is happening after installing microsofts fix it app that supposedly fixed issues that would cause these problems Can anyone help or point me in the right direction on what to do about this EDIT Windows update screen just completed or cancelled the install and did not move on to remaining updates Will attempt restart

A:Fresh windows 7 install, windows updates fails and other problems

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

If you didn't follow the Best Practices for Clean Reinstall after resetting BIOS to defaults, setting SATA controller to AHCI, unplugging all other HD's and peripherals.

Drivers are handled differently in Win7 than before so make sure to read and understand that part. If you changed out any from what Win7 wants then I would do it over. If you're running with the installer chipset then you can try the one from the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC or mobo.

As you work through the Troubleshooting steps post back results as there may be other steps suggested.

What are the 2 updates ?

Did you google the error code.

You could have newer versions of them, if it keeps up, just hide the updates.

Hello, I got moms laptop for repair, and found one problem. I can't install 6 updates, one of them is that Windows 10 one. Windows update gives me error 80070BC9. I already tried sfc /scannow, even on boot, it threw "unfixable" errors on me too.
Any help? (Windows 8.1)
Thanks!

P.S.: I tried to put CBS.log here, but I can't, don't know why.

A:Windows Update shows error 80070BC9, updates fails

Please post the KB{number} list of the updates you are trying to install.
Please upload the cbs.log file located at [windows partition]\windows\logs\cbs\ ,this log might have information about the problem + use this command
Code:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > "%userprofiel%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

after sfc/scannow is finished.
The sfcdetails.txt file shows what sfc could not fix.

Hi.

Th problem is that all windows updates are failed to install (around 27 updates) since the 17/May.
I tried everything from deleting temporary files, doing malware check, hard disk check for errors, still could not solve it.

Any ideas?

I think the "updates freezing" issue has come up in another thread and apologies if it has, but I can't find it momentarily.

The screen shots show what I've been looking at for two days now. Obviously something is amiss with Automatic Update but I dunno what, or what to do about it.

Any advice, help????

Mods, please feel free to move me to the other thread I suspect exists.

I reformatted my HP laptop so it restored it to how it comes when first out of the box, because I was having issues with a few programs and it started to run slowly.

I now have 130 windows 7 updates. I can occasionally download some of them by doing them 1 at a time, other times they don't work. I tried downloading 10 because I had a run of some working but the installation phase is stuck at 0%.

How can I fix this? I can't sit here all month downloading 1 update at a time.

Thanks.

Today first time I received a pop-up window from interactive message notification telling me that vcagent.exe (vaio care) is trying to send a message and that it's not compatible with windows. After doing a search online, I found posts about windows updates not downloading. I checked my windows updates and found 68 important updates available. I checked the installed updates and no updates have been installed since August of 2015. I get a 0% complete whether I try to install 1 or 68. my notification for win updates is "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them"
Based on other posts online I have tried stopping and starting win updates from cmd.exe and deleting the files in c/windows/softwaredistribution/download. None of that worked.
Now I just tried the vaio care update and after hanging at "installing..." for awhile, it failed to install.

It sounds like you may have some corrupt system files.  Start an administrative command prompt and issue this command:
sfc /scannow.  Note that it can run for a while - 10 to 30 min. in most cases.  If that doesn't fix it, download MalwareBytes from here, get it up to date, and run it.  If you're still having problems, you may want to post in the Am I Infected forum.

 Good luck.

Maybe this: Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working

And this: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If all else fails, download and install each remaining update manually. Several months ago, I had one W7 patch that would extract its files and then could not find them??? I had to point the installer to the files that it said it could not find 3 times during the install.

Windows Update has become erratic, currently gets stuck in the "looking for updates" phase. I have followed the instructions on this forum titled "Windows Update Posting Instructions." Ran the SURT with no issues reported. The SFC scan came back clean as well. There are no error codes like the example shown, on the WU screen, but at one point there was a pop-up box (I believe in conjunction with Windows Update Standalone Installer) with error 0x8024001e which may or may not now be resolved. The MS Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool has not helped. Also along the way I was advised to install Hotfix for Windows KB947821, which I did. Compressed CBS file will not upload to this post because it is too large (about 6MB).

All this is way above my pay grade as a non-tech user, but I think I have followed the instructions correctly. Any wisdom greatly appreciated!

Install KB3020369 and then KB3161608

I have done this on numerous systems and Windows Update then works as intended.

A:Windows 7 stuck on checking for updates

You are stuck in the forever Windows 7 update mode.
Let me explain.
Every sense W-10 came out Windows 7 Update has become very very slow.
If every thing on you system is correct it could take from 8 hours to 48 hours to download updates. Their will over 200 of them after a Clean Install.

I think a lot of it depends on what Microsoft server is being searched.
Some are very busy and some are less busy.

Some times when your system is still Searching you can reboot and try again.
If your lucky you will get a Microsoft server that is less busy.
The only cure I know of is just patients. Just leave your computer on and wait.

You apparently have a download problem. Check here whether there is something that might help: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527

Especially look at this one: The progress bar stops responding at 0 percent when you click "Download and install" There is a Fix-it download.

Hello everyone After i made a fails Windows Windows 8.1 installed after Updates research about my problem i finally came here hoping that someone might have an answer to what is happening to my laptop a Samsung Chronos Series laptop Some days ago august th i recieved a notification from Windows Update Windows 8.1 fails after Windows Updates installed telling me that update KB was ready to be installed as soon as i restarted my machinne Another update was also avaliable quot Advanced Micro Devices Inc - Graphics Adapter WDDM AMD Radeon M quot that's my dedicated graphics card the other one is an Intel HD Graphics I installed both updates to my computer and the system automatically created a restore point then i clicked quot Update and restart quot button Every time since the installation of these updates my laptop fails when tries to startup all i can see is Samsung logo and those funny dots moving in circles indicating that files are loading and after that a black screen without any mouse cursor or pretty much anything else At this point the keyboard the touchpad and other devices don't respond so i end up holding down the power button to end my laptop's misery The next thing i did was to use the startup repair tool that comes with Windows without any positive results I tried booting into safe mode safe mode with networking safe mode with command prompt run sfc scannnow run bootrec fixboot bootrec fixbcd bootrec rebuildbcd chkdsk and none of this methods could pass that annoying black screen Then i used the system restore roll backed graphics card drivers and everything worked fine apparently However whenever i shutdown or restart my computer that black screen comes back the next time i startup Windows even if i refused install KB and my graphics card updates before shuting down Something curious is that even when i choose to shutdown my laptop restarts instead The only way i can still use my laptop is by repairing startup using system restore and then never shuting down or restart but only hibernate or put to sleep my computer when i'm not using it I think the source of the problem is that for some reason windows tries to load the new graphics card drivers instead the ones it really has the ones within my restore point files But those are just my guesses I would like to know if anybody else have experienced something like this before i try to refresh my computer something i don't want to do because it will be difficult to reinstall all the rd party programs i have right now

To whomever can help:

I was given a computer for my daughter. It was JUST installed with Windows 7 home Premium sp1 when we got it. When I have tried to check for updates, it gets stuck- even if I leave it for hours & hours, it still continues to "check for updates" (& I have very fast internet). I have ran microsofts windows update troubleshooter, but it still does the same thing. I have ran the things listed in the sticky needed to be done for problems with windows update, with no issues. Please help.

Thank you for your time & assistance.

Noel is our expert on Windows 7 Updates and he is off line.

Just a note:
I just did a Clean Install yesterday and it took 5 hours to download and install Updates. Their will be over 200 of them.
The bar that goes across the screen lies. I watch my router activity light to see if things are being downloaded.

So I have searched this forum diligently (and Microsoft's website), downloaded multiple scripts and FixIt-ers, and have had absolutely no luck. This is killing me! I am stuck needing 93 files updated, and for some reason I cannot use the run/cmd program to install Automatic Updates (It is missing from services.msc). I am really stuck, and I normally don't get stuck. This is why I need your help.

Is there any other information I need to give you? I'm using a Sony Vaio EA290X. I use Ccleaner if that helps... Last time I got updated was over a month ago. Thanks so much for your help.

This has never happened before but I can't download the latest batch of updates! I've tried downloading one at a time but it makes no difference, just stuck on downloading 0%. I've tried to go into services.msc to switch off windows updates but it says 'stopping' with the options to stop/re-start greyed out.

I've tried the windows trouble shooter which detects problems and then says resolving but again after 20 minutes or so it still says the same thing. Does it take a long time (perhaps I'm being impatient)?

I've run out of time tonight but will try the windows update system readiness tool tomorrow.

In the meantime, does anyone have ideas I could try? As I say, I've never had problems downloading updates before.

You mean, it's searching for updates, takes a while, finds the updates, but when you select to install, it takes forever to download?

If that's the case, how long did you wait for it to start downloading before cancelling?

Terminal has POS7 imaged on it, I know it usually takes 5-6 hours for first round of updates to run, but it has been going for almost 24 hours. I thought there is a package out there somewhere that has the other SPs in it to make the process a lot quicker. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

A:Windows 7 stuck on checking updates after re-image

Go to this site: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=kb3125574 .
That has all the updates from SP1 through April 2016.  The 64 bit version is 477 GB, the 32 bit one is 316 GB.

 Good luck.

I have let the Windows Update running for more than 24 hours and still nothing to show to download the files from Windows Update for my desktop. I did ran through one program trying to fix Windows Update and got one problem. Here is below:

Windows Update error 0x80080005 ( 2016-11-07 - T_12_04_56P ) not fixed.

I am not sure what is that and won't be able to fix this problem.

Any idea to fix this problem so I will be able to run Windows Update.

Thank you,

John
