Window becomes really slow when opening a save as window.

Q: Window becomes really slow when opening a save as window.

I am not sure how to explain this, Up until last week, whenever I download something and save as to a folder, it becomes really slow and my brower freezes for 1 minute ish. I checked my processor and ntoskrnl.exe is the program thats taking most of the physical memory.

I am not sure exactly is going on. I did try to scan with malware and antivirus, but nothing showed up.

Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Window becomes really slow when opening a save as window.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Faering Welcome to the Ten Forums!

Quite annoying isn't it?! I run into that enough at times simply having a second browser window kept option. Suddenly everything will suddenly freeze up! I ran into that with IE 8, 9, 10, 11 as well as with Waterfox the first 64bit variant of Firefox as well as with Cyberfox, the latest 64bit FF versions, and other browsers as well not being a result of any malwares! At times between the host ISP and sites as well as the browser itself things will tend to bog down.

The download or other sites may be seeing heavier traffic at the time you go to download some new app and explain why a site is slow going. Your ISP(Internet Service Provider) could be seeing heavier then usual traffic as well which can explain slow downs as well. A combination of browser issues, slow down of host provider, and other sites put together is trouble!

I have windows 7 home premium genuine.

When I purchased ,there was only one drive 'C' but now I want to make partitions , pls inform how can I do that as I also want to install again same window ?

It may increase the system performance.

My laptop specs are ;
Dell inspiron n5110 , core i7 , 4gb ram , 500 gb hard disk , 1gb nvidia graphics.

When I run "Full scan" Mcafee it becomes slow ; how can I improve it ?

A:How do I make partitions in running window or save window

Hi,

You need to shrink the C: partition to smaller size, and then create a new partition in the previously used space - I recommend you use Partition Wizard 7 for this task. Refer to Option 3 here:
Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

If you want to clean install Windows 7, then use this tutorial:
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I would uninstall McCrappee, and replace it with MSE - it is lighter on resources:
Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Golden

Whenever I search in W7, I want to have the ability to open found folders in a new window. If I r-click, that option is not there. Is there a way to add this to W7?

Also: When I go to 'open file location', the file's folder opens in the same window - highly annoying. In Vista, it opens in a new window. Anyway to change this behvior in W7 to act like Vista, so the file opens in a new window?

Thanks!

Hello everyone! I recently came across a little problem that's kind of becoming a big annoyance to me. I recently got rid of a virus and noticed that when I open a folder, it opens into a new window instead of in the same window. I'm not really sure what's causing this problem.

I've already checked in my options and made sure that it's set to "Open into the same window" and I've been seeing a lot of things about going into regedit to change something but its kind of confusing and I didn't really want to mess around with it.

What should I/ can I do in order to get it back to opening into the same window?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

e.g. u:\\servername\sharename\... and it has an option to add Author, company name tags...when I log in as another user, it shows up as normal.

How can I get it back to normal?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance

I'm having a problem with some Windows programs no saving the window setting, particularly Windows Explorer. For reasons unknown, WE started opening fully expanded, then a few days later it opened taking up about half the screen. When following a page link in Internet Explorer, the new window opens in a much smaller window than it exited from. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Neuronjockey

I have just installed a program called CCS Compiler and I associated hex files with this program. Since then, I get the following window in various places like Save As... Two top buttons on the left: Projects and examples.

Click picture to enlarge

I have uninstalled this program now as I don't need it, but I'm still getting it. How can I manually tweak it?

Not only that, but the "Desktop" button seems to be missing in certain areas/windows, which I can't describe now as I can't remember, but in Vista the Desktop button was where I needed it. I've never bothered finding out more about it, but now this is getting annoying.

Any ideas how can I restore/customize it?

Windows 7 X64

A:Save as... window and its buttons on the left

Hi there zyx. you mean those two folders. Before you dig through the registry I would try and see if you don't have a system restore point that lies before the installation of CCS.

A:IE window sometimes not opening

Hello again, Pharod. I thought I'd help you again! You may wish to Subscribe to this thread so that you are notified when you receive a reply. To do this click Thread Tools (above the first post), then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe.

I don't see anything obvious in your log, so let's run a few scans to see if anything turns up.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions. If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes. Please do these steps in order and do not skip any.

Download CleanUp!
Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

WARNING: CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any temporary folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

WARNING: Do not run cleanup under Windows XP x64 Edition. If you're not sure if you have the 64-bit version of Windows then you probably do not; however, you can check by using IE to download the whichcpu tool and then running it.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware
Please download, install, and update AVG Anti-Spyware.Load AVG Anti-Spyware and then click the Shield tab at the topClick on the word active to change it to inactive.

Click the Update tab at the top:Under Manual update, click Start update. After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful". If you are having trouble updating, you can also download and run the manual updater.
Under Automatic update, change the Update interval to something more reasonable like 12 or 24 hours.

Click the Scanner tab at the top and then the Settings sub-tab:Under How to act?, click Recommended actions and select Quarantine.
Under Reports, select Automatically generate report after every scan

Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do not run a scan with it yet.

Download ComboFix
Download ComboFix from one of the following links: http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts. While ComboFix is running, please do not click or move the window, as this may cause the tool to stall. When the tool has finished, it will produce a log for you and save it as C:\ComboFix.txt. Post that log in your next reply.

Reboot
Reboot your system to Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears and choosing Safe Mode from the list. On some systems, this may be the F5 key so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on with your usual account. Make sure to close any open windows.

Run CleanUp!
Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the "Temporary Files" and make sure the box for "Scan drives for file matching" is unchecked.
Click OK.
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
Once it's finished CleanUp! will ask you to logoff/reboot. Please select NO as we will do this later.

Run AVG Anti-SpywareRun AVG Anti-Spyware and click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
AVG Anti-Spyware will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG Anti-Spyware will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
Click on Save Report, then Save Report As. Save the report so that you can find it again (like on the Desktop).
Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

Open IE and stretch it to size. Then use the "close" button under "File". When you reopen the window it should stay whee you let it. You will have to open several window and do this so that the all remember what size you want. If not the 2nd and 3rd and... windows will be the smaller size.

You might try clicking on the square box in the top right hand corner of the window (next to the red X). That should enlarge the window. I also think that when you close the window the next time, and reopen it, it should reopen in full size.

After the last automatic upgrade/downlaod I have been experiencing an annoying and extremely frustrating recurring problem. Whenever I use a windows program - esspecially Explorer - a help window automatically opens. I can close it, if I'm lucky, sometimes minimize it, but it will eventually pop up again. Did you update the definition files for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware BEFORE running a scan with each one?

After each scan was finished, did you select and remove EVERYTHING that was found?

Your computer is infected.

You need to wait for a gold/blue shield removal specialist to assist you.

Start HiJackThis.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

It'll then open in Notepad.

OK, I'm pulling my hair out here. Everything I've read on this subject suggests the following code should open an instance of IE and make the window visible:

Code:

Public Sub AddClients()
Dim i, userid As String
Dim objIE As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer

Set objIE = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
objIE.Visible = True

Yet every time I get to the Set statement, my PC locks up and since I never see a window, I have to assume it never gets past this statement. I have the Microsoft Internet Controls reference checked, so what else could be causing this lockup?

Hello,
I am asking for help regarding the Navigation Pane of the Save as... dialogue window in Windows 7. In the old days there used to be an option to directly access Desktop through this Pane (or whatever it used to be), but not it is missing. Just Harddrive, Network, Libraries and Favourites are visible.

I tried using a tool for altering the Navigation Pane but it would not affect the Save as... window...

Is there any solution for this annoying problem?

Yes I know it is possible to write just Desktop in the Name field to go there but it feels like a really annoying workaround, it should be a better solution.

Thanks in advance!

Good Afternoon,

I hope you can help because I've searched endlessly without success to find an answer to this. I have found others with the problem but as yet no answers

The title says it all. When I click a link that opens a new window the window opens but never loads. This happens whether the link is java or traditional. I am running:

IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
on Windows XP home

I have tried this 'sfc /scannow' to no avail. When the scan finished it just finished so I presume there is nothing wrong as it told me nothing.

As you can imagine this problem is driving me nuts as it limits many websites functionality. Especially those relying on Java.

Thanks for your time and thought, I'm sure this will help many people.

When I put in a memory card or plug in a usb drive no autoplay window opens.
I can click on the drive (via my computer) and open the card's / drive's folders.
The usb 'safely remove' icon appears on the task bar.
The drives behave normally but I would prefer to have the autoplay option.
There is no autoplay tab when I right click the drives properties.
I've tried MS Autofix.exe - which hangs up (not responding) and the AutoPlayRepair tool - which make no difference.
My machine is an Acer Aspire Laptop running Vista Home Premium, service pack 2.

Any suggestions please?

I was just wondering if there was a fix for it or if Vista is just going to suck until the end of time?

hi,

My IE 6 is freezing and not responding after it is opened of late. I run McAfee full edition and it is not able to find anything neither Adware. My computer shows some other strange symptoms as well, like missing system tray icons. I am using IE6 and I am quite sure some program has crept into IE surreptitiously. Any help?
-Ron

A:IE6 freezing up for after opening new window

Hello Ron and welcome to Tech Support Forum

What icons are missing from the system tray?

Do you think you are infected?

Try and upgrade to IE7.

Hello,We will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while we assist you. Some points for you to keep in mind while we are helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us:Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs, unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.- Do NOT backup any unknown files ending in .exe, .com, .scr, .pif, and .bat since files of these types are more likely to be infected.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate toFor Win 7 and Vista: "Windows Orb"> Programs > Accessories > NotepadFor Win XP: Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.----------------------------------------------Please do the following: Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe on your desktop to run the tool for known TDSS variants.Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.Click on change parametersUnder Objects to scan, check the boxes next to Verify file digital signatures, Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK.Click the Start Scan button.Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.Note: If Cure is not an option, Skip instead, do NOT choose Delete or Quarantine unless instructed.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the full contents of that file in your next reply. - If the log is too long, then split it into multiple posts. When I open a window from within a window it opens small and I have to push the re-size button (top right) each time.
Is there way I can make it so that it defaults to full screen?

Thank You

I have a problem when clicking on a link that is suppose to open a new window. Example: when I go to a link and click, it opens up in the same window instead of normally opening a new window. It will not let me go back to the page that I started with. The back button is grey.I have recently gotten rid of spyware by completely restoring my computer with the two restore disk that came with the purchase. I am running windows xp and internet explorer 6.0. I also have mcafee 6.0 av. installed. I have disabled the firewall and still no luck with this problem. This is a real problem when getting links on my email. Once I click the link it opens in the same window and I have to completely sign on again to get back to my mail. Any help or suggestions.
Thanks

I am running Microsoft Windows 2000 as my operating system, but I use Office 97. I have many different files in Word that I have to open on a daily basis, and I like to use the Alt+Tab to switch between windows. The problem is that when I try to open multiple Word documents, they all open in the original Word window, unless I go into the start menu and open another window of Word. What I want to know how to do I set my computer default to tell it to open each Word document in different windows instead of using the same one for all of them. I am having the same problem in Excel. If you know how to do this, please help.

hi
i have a problem with opening links in new windows with ie6. i have recently installed sp1 and am pretty sure thats where it stsarted (reinstalling, formatting and repairing have not worked). ive seen the solutions that have been offered to people with the same problem but they dont seem to be working for me. my folder options settings are correct. when i run the dlls i get error messages on msjava.dll (the specified module could not be found), actprxy.dll (actprxy was loaded but the dllinstall entry point was not found. file was not registered and oleaut32.dll (same as actprxy.dll). sometimes restarting ie6 helps, but then the problem reappears. does anyone have any ideas?

I had problems with service pack 1, my pc was very slow, so I uninstalled it.

If you think this is where the problems lays, then try uninstalling the service pack(you did install the uninstall program, right?) if no changes, then you can just reinstall it later.

Keep getting new windows opening.

have changed folder view options so that 'launch folder windows in a separate process" is unchecked.

tools -> folder options -> open each folder in the same window is also checked.

And It still does it! very annoying!

Have been over the settings three times. tried resetting all folders - apply to all folders. Still does it.

Any ideas? Please?!

A:Help! Folders Keep Opening In New Window (xp)?

Try the fix at Kelly's Korner. Set Folder Default to Open & Use Same Window - Explore - #215 on the right.Right click on it and save the .reg file to your desktop. Then, double click on the file icon (on your desktop) to merge it into your registry. You may need to reboot your computer for the changes to take affect. With any fix like this you should create a new restore point and backup the registry first. For backing up the registry I like to use ERUNT.

hello
Every so often, a window opens asking to connect to my isp.I am already connected to my isp. What is this about?
I have a adsl connection and if I check on control panel and network connection,I have 2 connections showing.one is my isp and the other one is LAN.do I need 2 connections? or is just my isp enough?
thank you

A:connect to my isp window keeps opening

Normally the LAN option woudl be for if you have a router and you have the LAN (Local Area Network) selected as your connection to the internet.
The connection for your ISP would be the one you created when you ran their install software. This is used if you connect directly to the modem and run a software application to cause the modem to connect (if you were using a router, the router already contains an application to do this and you give it the name and password and tell it to connect automatically and keep the connection live always)
Normally one of these will be selected as default .

I guess I must have surfed on a site that was a big NO NO cuz my browser opens up all by itself to different sites now. I have tried running the SuperAnti-Spy program but everytime I do, when I fix the "detected files" and reboot, Windows will not boot normally and I have to boot into safemode and do a system restore. Windows boot is ok after that BUT the problem is still there. I have ran Spybot S&D and its still screwed up. Can someone please give me some advice on how to GET RID of this THING? I'm desperate.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everybody I'm new here and my PC knowledge is somewhat limited so bear with me My parents are running Vista Home bit on a Dell Inspiron with AVG as the anitvirus On trying to open Window Firewall it comes up with the message quot Due Window Firewall not opening to an unidentified problem Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings quot They have contacted AVG assuming its a conflict where firewalls cannot run at the same time who then direct them to disabling AVG's firewall - however for some reason the help emails direct them to a menu that Window Firewall not opening isn't there presumably AVG don't call a Firewall a Firewall as I looked myself and couldn't see anything Unfortunately as they are my parents I'm sure Window Firewall not opening this isn't half the information needed to solve the problem but that's the best I could get I did a quick search on Google and have seen that AVG conflicts with Windows Defender - this is turned off which AVG does automatically on install - but the majority of people with the above problem are on a network whereas this is a home system Could anyone help please Thanks

A:Window Firewall not opening

Welcome
The suggested combination for Vista is Microsoft Security Essentials and the Windows Firewall. They are both made specifically for windows and work great together. In addition download and run a weekly scan with the free malwarebytes. You will not have anyproblems and they will be easy to operate
In addition your AntiVirus has been the cause of several BSODs (Blue Screen of Death). If you are not familiar with the term, lets just say you do not want to use any software that may include a condition which includes the term death in its name.
Bottom line, change the anti virus.
In addition Defender is part or Security Essentials and you will no longer need to run that software.

Hey Guys!

I didn't know who to turn to and you guys seem to know alot about Windows 10 so far and might be able to help me. I have been using WIndows 10 since they released it and one issue has been plaguing me since then. Whenever I leave my computer and come back after some time i will notice apps are opened sitting in my taskbar. The main apps that do it are Photo and Calendar.

I don't use those apps for either photo or calendar things and I am not even signed into Windows 10 with a MS account.

But every hour or so, these apps open up and hang out in my taskbar. I have even removed them from default apps and uninstalled what I could but no luck.

Any ideas.

A:Window 10 Apps Keep Opening On Their Own.

I have the same issue... but so far only with the Photos app. I'll look down and notice it in the taskbar, then I open it, but there's never any image loaded, and I don't recall clicking/evoking anything that would make the system think I wanted to view an image.

Also of note (?), this only happens on my secondary monitor (I run the latest version of DisplayFusionPro).

Lastly, can I confirm... no such thing as right-clicking an image and selecting Preview anymore? Is the Photos app - or an equivalent - the new norm?

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

I use windows XP Pro. I have downloaded a new program to clean my RAM (CleanRam v.1.2.0). When I click on the Icon, on the desktop, the program opens a very small window. I can not change the size of the window, and because of that I do not see all the buttons which operate
the program.

I tried to press ALT+SPACE to pop up a menu that will allow me to resize the window, but I did not have this option.
Is there away to enlarge the window??

Thank you,

A:Annoying Window opening

Hello Camou, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It may be a setting in AutoPlay for that type of media device that is set to open that folder automatically. You will just need to go down the list to see if there is one set that way, then change it to something like "Ask me everytime" instead.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to fix this problem. When I save something to my computer or upload something to the internet, the save as/browse window just shows a blank box where the libraries and favourites tabs should be, meaning I can only save files in one folder on my PC or make loads of shortcuts in folders around my computer. Saving from programs, like word or paint, however, does show the tabs at the side.

I've tried changing the windows themes, and changing browsers but neither worked. Does anyone have any other ideas?

The other day I noticed that all of the icons and previews (for images) were not showing when I am in a program and open a window for Save As../Open, etc. This happens in all programs. Attached is an example.

When I open the file location from within my computer all icons and previews work.

Things I have tried so far:

Control Panel>Advanced System Settings>Performance Settings - Made sure Show Thumbnails instead of icons is check.

Going through every folder and making sure in folder options that always show icons, never thumbnails was unchecked. I have tried numerous different scenarios.

I even went and installed custom icons. That is why it now shows some icons. Before it showed no icons at all.

I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to settings in windows and have been running Windows 7 since it came out. If anybody knows anything else I can try, please let me know.

Thanks

You could try the following;

To fix this problem, follow these steps:
Close all open windows if a Close Open Programs Interaction dialog box is displayed.
Verify the Max Cached Icons registry value that locates in the following registry subkey equals to 4096:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
Delete IconCache.db that locates in the following path:
Windows XP - %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data
Windows Vista or Windows 7 - %userprofile%\AppData\Local.

I have a major problem which is just driving me nuts. Whenever i try to either Open a file or save a file, the dialogue box doesnt come up. Same thing happens if i want to upload a file to my email or to facebook. Ive tried to run sfc/scannow in CMD as an admin and that didnt fix it. Ive also tried using the Startup Repair with a Windows disc and still no result. If you know someone who might have knowledge with this problem, then tell em to either contact me or give me their name.

A:"security Alert" Window Keeps Opening

Hello martindale66,NOTE: If you have downloaded SmitfraudFix previously please delete that version and download it again! Please download SmitfraudFix Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htmYou should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site. Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :Restart your computer After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually; Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear; Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter". Choose your usual account.Once in Safe Mode, double-click SmitfraudFix.exe Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files. You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter". The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of the SmitfraudFix report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log. The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Ok this is what is happening.

When I select the folders in the Favorites tree instead of opening in the window pane they open in a new window. They didn't used to. This is only started happening about half an hour ago.

I don't if this has anything to do with it but I opened one of my Favorites in the explorer folder tree via right-click 'open in new window'. But now they won't stop opening in a new window.

Yes my folder options are set to open in the same window. It is ONLY the Favorites. None of the Libraries or other locations (Homegroup, Computer, etc) in the folder tree do this.

Please, how do I make it stop?

A:Locop.exe And Others Opening Command Window ?

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum omg it's andyMy name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems. You have Avast4 and AVG7 installed. Its definitely not a good idea to have more than one antivirus program installed on your computer. Each program may interpret the actions of the other as viral, therefore giving you false virus warnings about virus-related activities. It could also lead to system slowdowns and other problems within the operating system, due to the two conflicting with each other. You should uninstall one of them now, then restart your pc.Download SDFix.exe and save it to your desktop:http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe* Double click on SDFix on your desktop, and install the fix to C:\ Please then reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:* Restart your computer* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;* Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".* Choose your usual account.* In Safe Mode,go to and open the C:\SDFix folder, then double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.* Type Y to begin the script.* It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.* Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.* When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.* Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt into your next reply. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.* Close all other windows before proceeding.* Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.* When it has finished, DSS will open two Notepads: main.txt and extra.txt* Use Save As to save both Notepad files to your Desktop and post them in your next reply.

Trying to help my father. He has SBC Yahoo DSL with their browser, but also has the same problem with IE 7.0. Every time he is on a web page and clicks on a link that opens in a new window or tab it opens up in a very small window. He then has to click on maximize or drag it open to get it full size. We tried dragging it open and then closing it hoping that it would save it but that didn't work. We also tried another suggestion to click on view then refresh the holding down ctrl while closing- same problem. It only happens when a link opens in a new window not when a link opens in the current window. He has a fairly new computer with XP.
Thanks, Kurt

A:Links Opening In A New Window Are Very Small

Hi Kurt. The click and drag to maximize thing usually works. However, when you close the new window for the first time you must use File>Exit to close it, not the quick close X in the upper right hand corner. If that's what you're doing, have your father open a few hyperlinks in seperate windows, drag them full screen then close all the windows, including the original, via File>Exit from the toolbar. It "should" stick. If you've already used that method let us know.

My computer running XP suffers from random freezes. Mostly they occur when I go to open Internet explorer, but it does happen on other applications. It is random, but the occurances are increasing. The symptoms are: Apllication starts to open then hangs, the window opening changes to a fade colour (similar to placing it behind another window), the mouse still moves but left and right clicks have no effect, after about 4 clicks the computer (not through the speakers) beeps and nothing works. During a re-start it will occassionally hang at different points also.

Would appreciate any help with diagnostics of system or possible application clashes if someone has experienced similar.

Thankyou.
