If I currently get an average of 20mbps using a linksys n router with comcast as my ISP. If I upgrade to an ac router, and assuming I have ac compatible devices, will I get any significant increase in wifi speed? I wasn't sure if I need to get a faster internet tier from Comcast or not. AC routers promise much faster speeds (400mbps) but comcast says they provide me with 25 tops. Can I just upgrade my router or do I have to pay more to comcast?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
If 25mbps is all that comcast is providing, u are doing all u can expect if u are receiving 20 u are doing all u can expect with that plan. changing u'r router is not going to help in the least.http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/will-802-11ac-router-increase-download-speed.209175/

hello, i have a windows 7 with netzero dial up 3G and my download speed is aprox. 4kb a sec. i really want to make my download speed faster. canu guys please help.
I'm sitting at my desk and finding the following speeds for my 3 Lenovo products:: Device Ping Down Up Wired TnkCtre M83 SFF: 9 360 30 WiFi Moto X: 9 133 30 Wifi Lenovo Yoga2 13": 10 30 24 My question is: What can I do to increase the Yoga2 download speed? I bought COD11 two days ago, the size is around 8gigs, the third day and I'm still struggling to keep the X360 connected to Xbox Live + downloading.
I turned background download on (which allows the device to download while it is off), left it for about 12 hours, downloaded only 20%!!!!
The main target is to keep Xbox connected to live to keep the download progressing.
The bottleneck is almost certainly your internet connection itself.http://forums.windowscentral.com/ask-question/442659-how-increase-speed-x360-games-download.html
My dad currently has DSL service through AT&T. When he first purchased and set up the service, he was given a Siemens SpeedStream modem. Over time the connection speed has slowed to a crawl; I'm not sure if this is due to the modem itself, the computer's network card, or something else entirely. He's seen the different routers for sale at computer stores and neither of us were sure if they would be compatible with his current setup, or even if buying one would have any kind of benefit speed-wise. He doesn't want to upgrade or change services if he can avoid it. Any thoughts?
A mate of mine signed up with TalkTalk fairly recently. She got the basic package, and uses a Linksys WAG354G router.
TalkTalk have kindly upgraded her free to 8Meg bb. Lovely, you would think, but now she is continually being booted off the net. She phoned TalkTalk who told her that her router is not able to deal with the 8meg speed (they said, and I quote that the router is ADSL2 and that cannot handle 8meg bb...), and should she wish to upgrade, then it would take another three weeks to get things sorted out for her.........
This sounds like b/s to me.
Anyone know any better??
All help very very gratefully received
Hi there trying to increase the Wifi speed -- have a decent Wifi adapter with ac capability - connected to USB port Speed should be up to - Mbps instead of the Mbps it shows I KNOW the cable speed via LAN is really fast - so is the built in Wifi router that the cable company have given me not up to the job for Wifi -- I really would like to get rid of loads of LAN cable around the place That's why I don't like these boxes the ISP issues you with thereoretical below Wifi well (802.11ac) speed - there's minimal tinkering you can do with them - but you have to use their cable box as a typical Router connects via the phone -- that phone connection system has long since disappeared where I am Seems that the cable boxes you get hobbled with by the ISP company - while OK for LAN seem to not be built for the fastest Wifi Protocol Anyway round this Wifi speed well below thereoretical (802.11ac) --- any call to the cable company seems to involve my worst nightmare -- long waits on the Wifi speed well below thereoretical (802.11ac) phone to some Indian call centre where the staff at the other end haven't a clue what I'm talking about -- all they seem to mouth over and over again - Is your Internet working --YES IT IS but that's not the problem Grrrhhhhhhh Cheers jimbo
there are a few tweeks you can make here,
Throughput enhancement is the major amendment just depends on your adapters options.
and then theres the bandwidth 5.2 is faster.

I am on a point to point internet connection that is rated at 2mbps. With my PC connected directly to the modem or through an old Airlink101 (model AR680W) router typical DL speeds are 1.9 to 2.4 mbps. However the Airlink router has to be reset 2 to 3 times per day.
I am trying to replace this router, however every router I've tried cuts the download speed in half (about 0.9 to 1.3 mbps). So far I've tried two Ultra Speed wireless N routers; two D-Link DIR 615's; and one Linksys E1200. When I talk to their tech support after testing they say that the routers must be faulty, but what are the odds of getting 5 bad routers from 3 different manufactures.
My IP does not know of any compatability issues with any routers.
How can I solve this problem or is there a way to fix my old router. Thankyou
For any of the routers make sure you have the latest firmware and then reset it to factory default settings.
Disable the router's wireless and test. Still slow?
After dealing with BrightHouse Networks Roadrunner and Linksys tech support for the past 3 weeks and not getting the download speeds anywhere close to the 10 Mbps(10,000 Kbps) that my computers should be getting, I finally discovered what the problem was:
The network cards were set to "10mb half duplex" and had not been changed to "100mb full duplex" after installing a router.
Once the setting change was made, the download speeds increased dramatically and are now very close to the correct speed.
After adding a Linksys WRT54G wireless router to my system in order to allow internet access to a second PC, download speeds have decreased almost to the point of a dial-up connection. When I remove the router, download speeds return to where they should be.
Broadband reports.com after speed test recommended "tweak test" but that test caused my computer to hang up. And I don't even know what "tweak" refers to anyhow so I'm afraid to go further without some advice.
I know this has to be a router problem, but, being a complete novice in the router department, I've no idea what to do about it. Anyone have suggestions?
256 MB Ram
Modem: VisionNet ADSL 202ES
I just replaced my old router (Linksys WRT54G) to a Linksys x1000. However, my download speed is slower than the previous router I had. I tried the following things to resolve this problem:
Upgrading to the latest firmware version;Updated my wireless network card drivers to the latest version;Switching between different channels (channel 1 and 5 and default channel). I have set Network Mode to: Mixed and I set Channel Width to Automatic (20 or 40 MHz).
When using my old router I had an average download speed of 1 MB/sec while using the new router I can't get pas 500 KB/sec. In both cases I was sitting next to the router.
Oh, and by the way, there's also a port on the router named DSL. It looks like it doesn't matter whether I connect that port to my modem. How come? What's its function?
Anyone got an idea?
Try switching DNS address to Open DNS or Google DNS.

Is is OK to ask for a router recommendation here. My network includes a wireless bridge which is failing, so I thought I would repurpose my current router as a bridge and get a new router with 802.11ac support. What do you guys recommend.
I have a question about my router, it's a Linksys 1900AC. It broadcasts 2.4 and 5. My laptop does not have a receiver to pick up the 5. My average download speed connected to 2.4 is around 10Mbp/s. I'm paying for 150Mbp/s.
If I connect my wife's laptop to 5, she gets a download speed of 122Mbp/s. My daughter's MacBook gets 138Mbp/s. If I connect theirs to 2.4, they get an average of 10Mbp/s. Do you think there is something wrong with the router and the 2.4 network? The download speed seems awfully slow to me.
I have tried changing channels 1,6,and 11
There is also a setting to pick
If I set it to N, my laptop will increase the download speed to about 30Mbp/s but I have older devices in the house so I keep it set to Mixed.
All the laptops were tested at a distance of about 35 ft.
I am considering the addition of a video streaming device (Roku). In anticipation of making that connection I resurrected a D-Link Router I purchased many years ago. It's the DI-604 [wired, not wireless]. I connected in to my Motorola SURFboard SB6121 modem. Before I made the connection I checked my download speeds. I was consistently registering 58Mbps. After the router was added to the circuit my download speeds dropped consistently to 36Mbps.
Are there any adjustments I can make to that router, my computer, my modem to re-gain some of the speed I have lost?
Is that reduction in download speed likely to make HDTV video streaming a frustrating, unsatisfactory experience?
I would definitely advise purchasing a new router, since that particular model is really old technology.
Ok so to keep it short I upgraded my connection from to Setup Laptop - gt Wireless connection WEP ecryption - gt Dlink WBR- router - gt Siemens SpeedStream Modem - router reduces Dlink speed by download 90% gt Internet I did not notice any increase in speed after upgrading So I called my ISP and found out that it is the router that somewhat caps my speed It downloads faster if I plug my laptop into the Modem directly I called Dlink and their answer was that they cannot do anything about it quot Everybody has the same problem when you connect to the router and to the modem you lose speed There is nothing we can do about it quot But here is the thing that bugs me I can download files Firefox for example at k s but as soon as I add my router into the equation I can only download it at k s I can understand that there could be some loss with a router But losing of your download speed Come on I want to know if this is normal or if I am just dealing with incompetent tech support Any recommendations on good routers I can buy that will not literally paralyse my connexion Thanks nbsp
Ok so since my dad don t remember where he hid the old wire hd dsl model router he bought a Netgear DGN N wireless dsl modem router What I notice about the change is the speed of the internet We are paying for mbps download and kpbs upload but we re actually just getting around kbps on download and kpbs on upload with the old router Now I tested it s download speed and upload by actually downloading something big like a gig and I wasn t getting a constant speed rate of kpbs at all but around kpbs rollercoastering through - kpbs I have a wireless PCI express card on my desktop it s an ASUS PCE-N Wireless Adapter IEEE b g n PCI Express Mbp Netgear DGN setting Channel n up to Mbps Mixed WPA-PSK WPA -PSK Though on my desktop I m getting a Full signal of Mbps of speed I still can t get the speed I had on our old router The biggest problem I m having is on my laptop This is where I mostly download videos and other stuff This is where I see that I get a constant speed of kpbs download I never played the network adapter on this laptop until I got a lot of issues getting really low speed from our new Model Router I m but Router slower speed? Solved: New download getting FULL signal but speed is Mbps Though it does goes up to around Mbps Mbps Mbps Mbps often very often on Mbps and Mbps but It s mostly cap to Mbps I have an ACER Aspire - with a wireless lan adapter Broadcom n Both of my desktop and laptop is upstairs but only my laptop gets really low download speed under kbps also not getting constant speed Network Adapter settings Solved: New Router but slower download speed? coexistance auto mhz Intolerant disabled n Preamble auto Afterburner disabled Antenna Diversity Auto AP compatiblity Mode High Performance Bandwidth capability b g Mhz Bluetooth Collaboration Auto BSS PLCP header Auto Short Long BT-AMP Enabled Disable upon Wired Connected disabled Fragmentation Threshold IBSS g tm Protection Mode auto IBSS mode b g n Auto Locally Administered MAC address not present Minimum Power Consumption disabled Mixed Cell Support disabled Power Output Priority and VLAN Disabled Rate Best rate Roam Tendency Auto Roaming Decision Auto RTS Threshold Short GI Auto Wake-up Mode Magic and Wakup frame WMM Auti WZC IBSS Channel Number Mhz Xpress TM Technology enabled This is quite a lot but please bear with me I m no professional on wireless network technology So if u guys have any suggestion on what settings should I have please do so I would gladly try everything just to make every like it was before Especially when switching from a g to N wireless dsl modem router Though the router is actually downstairs this time when it is normally at my parents room like doors far apart from my room which was upstairs Why am I losing so much speed My desktop is getting almost the normal speed that I had before with the old router Ok so I went downstairs and I m feet away from it and wow I got upto Mbps though it still goes down to Mbps frequently but my speed gain upto - kbps but still goes down to around kpbs I also did a ping test and here s my result PING data bytes bytes from seq ttl time ms bytes from seq ttl time ms bytes from seq ttl time ms bytes from seq ttl time ms --- ping statistics --- packets transmitted packets received packet loss round-trip min avg max ms This is after I reinstalled my drivers for my network adapter before it looks like this PING data bytes --- ping statistics --- packets transmitted packets received packet loss It doesn t say anything on the body of the test I hope you guys understood this I have really bad explanation especially that English isn t my native language I also tried getting away from the router by about yards it seems that the speed goes back to it s Mbps but the downlod speed is like how it was before I m getting up to Kbps nbsp
Hi guys.....i recently brought the netgear wireless router and i connect it to the my wired network and after i complete successfully about the settings of netgear and after that i check the internet speed at speedtest it shows almost 2mbps download speed and 1.5 mbps upload speed but when i put the a file to download the speed only changes in between 60 - 70 kbps actually it gives 200 to 250 kbps but it doesn't.....i really tired my best get normal speed but i didn't got that....so please guys can any one gives the solution for this
Does the same file transfer speed occur with a wired connection? Please understand that Mbps (Mega bits per second) is NOT the same as MB/s (Mega bytes per second).
Based on what you say this would not add up however if the transfer rate was in bytes then this would be normal. When doing the file transfer are you downloading from the internet or transferring the file between two machines on your network? Transferring data between two machines on your network should give you a better understanding of what the speed of your wireless connection is.
8 bits in a byte
1024 bytes in a Kilobytes
1024 Kilobytes in a Megabyte
1024 Megabytes in a Gigabyte
2 Mbps = 2000 Kilobits per second
2000 / 8 = 250 Kilobytes per second transfer rate
(Where / is a divide)
Hope This Helps,
I need to replace another failing NetGear wireless router, so this time I'm not going to automatically buy the newest NetGear model.
I don't plan to run third-party firmware at first, but I'm open to the idea later on. Recommendations? Brands/models to avoid?
Not sure what is up here but we are having considerable problems with the internet.
Sometimes it will be fine although only getting a download speed of 3mbps and upload speed of 0.8mbps.
Other times it will take an age to open a google page and then just stop working altogether.
Sometimes turning off the router and waiting a minute or so will get us back to 3mbps but it doesn't always last. Everytime we turn laptop on we have to reset the router again. It as though there is too much going through it and it jamming up all the time. Is this possible or am I infected with something?
Operating system is Windows 7.

and CPU multiple factory 5.5x
I'm now at 300MHz base frequency of 66MHz and multiple factory4.5x and the computer works fine. My question is if its save to increase the speed to the 550MHz? my CPU brand is a AmD K6-2.
is it possible to increase the fsb on an Abit KT7-Raid motherboard
from 100 to 133 by flashing the prom ??
Your best bet is to check out overclocking.com (or overclock.com- cant remember)- they have a big list of hw and what can be done with it. Remember to make sure that it won't affect your pci stuff, as some cards etc do not like a bus increase.
not sure but i think it should be faster

hello, I use a D-Link DFE-538TX 10_100 LAN ADAPTER, to connect to my friends. Earlier my lan speed used to be 100 mbps but now it has decreased...
Please do not cross-post. Post on one forum only and wait for reply. For help responses, see your other post here: http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/how-to-increase-lan-speed/203369.html
Most people talk about there CPU fans being to loud and that they wanna know how to decrease their speed because theyd rather have peace and quiet and have there CPU take some heat. Well i have speedfan and my cpu fan rpm sits around 3400rpm, ive seen it get into the 5000rpm ranges. How would i go about having full control of my cpu fan? I wanna have it running at maximum speed all the time, i wanna bring my cpu temps below 40C at idle.
It depends on the type of fan you have.
Some of them alter their own speed according to the temperature, some of them have their speed adjusted by the motherboard.
How many wires run into your fan? If it's three wires then there is no way to control its speed. If it's four wires then connecting the speed control wire to +5V should do the trick.
Both, the CPU and the Case fan runs 50% of max rpm, but I wanted 100% rpm. Desktop Board: Intel D946GZIS. Spend hours on de Intel site, looking for a selution, can't find.
The use of SpeedFan don't succeed, adjusting the fan speed didn't work.
Who can help me?
how can we increase the speed of my laptop hav 2GB RAM and 250GB HD,intel core 2 duo, window xp sp-2.
Install SP3 for security reasons. Malware slows your computer down.
Uninstall as much unnecessary software as you have.
Increase your RAM if possible.
Uninstall anything with the word "toolbar" in it, and get as many of the update.exe disabled.
I play dota and i lag what can u do or buy to increase its speed and not lag?
how can i increase PCI bus speed other than overclocking? or increase pci bandwidth?
can i increase my transfer rate for internet
My computer has been overheating lately. I was wondering how I can run the fan at a high speed to hopefully decrease the temperature. I have a HP Pavilion dv5z-1000 laptop.
I was just reading your instructions and I feel there is something missing.
2. Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER ?> Software ?> Microsoft ?> Windows ?> Current Version ?> Internet Settings (there are 10 folders in that folder which one?)
Which instruction are you reffering too? is this for the runonce error?
i have a p4 1.7 ghz pc having 128 ram and windows xp as operating system.
more than half of my hard disk space is empty but still the starting, shutting down and operating speed is as good as it was in beginning.
i deleted many programs and games directly without goin to add remove directory so there names r still appearing in add remove directory.
how to clear that directory.does it affect the speed.
a guy told me that ur ram may be used in unnecessary processes,is that right?
i have a software of ram booster ,is it the right solution.
tell me how does should i use it and all possible ways to clear unnecessary data to get the best speed.
My download speed was like 1.53 Mbps and my upload speed was 0.01mbps... i can't upload any file, what should i do? Thanks
Can you please give a little more information?
Try this, it improved my pc but not much
Click the start button
then type in the start menu system.ini
in the system.ini copy this
Tbps means Tera bytes per second which means the internet speed will improve
If it did not work try this other method
1-go to run
3-expand the administrative templates
4-expand the network
5-select Qos Packet Scheduler
6- double click limit reservable bandwidth
7-enable it and put 0 in the bandwidth limit
8-click apply and ok
hope this helps!!
Well, I am always a sucker for Internet speed so I will try anything once, sometimes though, even more than once )
Hey, I wonder if I would gain twice the speed if I was to do both methods at the same time?
Just nosing around the web and found this tip. Go to control panel/internet options/connections/lan settings and uncheck automaticaly detect settings.
Seems to speed up the loading time for web pages for me Hope it does for you
That will be very dependant on the type of connection you have.
I use a BT connection and doing what you suggest increased its reliability a little but i have seen no change in connection speed.
I did it about a week ago so i have had time to see if there was any other benefits.
At home, I am using 3G broadband. I always found to have a problem with my internet. It worked few minutes then suddenly it start loses connection or freezes. Whenever I try to troubleshoot my connection, it display message like this cable might be broken or unplug your device again. Then what should I do even 3G is the best service for internet connection?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Well first of all, what providers do you have available in your area?
3G is going off of the cell towers, so if you're in an area with low signal, or high population (more people running off of the towers), then your bandwidth is going to be choked and you'll get slowdowns.
If you're losing connection at your house though, you may have an issue with your system itself. Do you have another computer/device you can test the connection with? If so, does it's connection drop out at the same time as your primary system's connection?
If you check out the below image of windows default Internet connection status dialer. You see that Sent Compression is 67% but Receiving compression is only 2%. What's the meaning of this and we can improve or increase the receiving compression. In my system Windows XP SP1, IE6 is installed. And i already increase the port speed of my modem (Com3) to 115200 BPS.
You apparently do more receiving than downloading. Almost everything that you are "sending" is an acknowledgement that you received the packet. These acknowledgements can be compressed much more than the data itself, therefore you will only get a 2%-3% receive compression, but a much higher send compression.
Have been using this for several days and it works wonderfully.
I live out in the country and my DUN's are very slow, and cannot get DSL or Cable, seems to be the answer to my problem, even on
TSG which is very slow in loading it now comes up almost instantly. I'm always skeptical about anything new but this seems to work as advertised, just thought you'd like to know.
Hi, could you please see if it is safe to do this to
increase the speed of the internet? Have you guys
seen this on any other site?
I don't think it would hurt anything, but I don't know if it will make a significant change. Honestly this is the first I've ever heard of this, but I will definately check it out when I get home.
edit: tried it on the computer here at school and it still runs fine, but again, without a bandwidth test (which would be hard to do on such a large network) I can't prove it helped anything.
how can i increase or improve the speed of my wifi connection. it seems like everytime i go on the web, it takes quite a while to load the page. just a little bit faster then 56kbps. the wireless router is right in the other room.
when my friend brings his laptop over, it seems as though he gets fast connection eventhough he's downstairs...

Disk clean up, scan for viruses/spyware/malware, Disk defragment.
CCleaner isn't too bad, you should try it. May help you save a lot of space if you've nevered tried anything like it.
Endless going list.
Comcast seems to have souped up our connections, and I didn't even hear about it! Last time I heard, we had 4000/384, but today I was downloading a large file, and noticed that I seemed to be getting really fast downloads, maintaining 600kb/sec for a 100mb file. I checked the speed test at www.dslreports.com, and it does seem that the connection is faster right now.

I am paying for a 1 something or other mb, maybe? I can never remember. My question is when I download, at the most I am getting 200k. Is that as good as it can get or is there something I need to do?
I am using XP home edition version 2002 Sp2, My network adapter.. NVIDIA nForce. What else afects your actual speed?
I verywell could be. The download speed is determined by several factors. The most restrictive is how much bandwidth will the remote server let you have to download the software. I have 6Mbps download speed. MajorGeeks and Download.com seldom allow me more than 250Kbps and it is not uncommon to be as low as 150Kbps. With that said I have downloaded from Source.Forge.com at over 2.5Mbps on occassion. Have you tried testing your download speed? Try testing your speed at the following link.http://performance.toast.net/http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/68006/how-do-you-increase-broadband-speed/
I have a 3.0ghz, 1gb ram, winxp pro. It had been running just fine and started just average speed. But lately when I enter in the username password, it takes 3-4 minutes to load everything.
The regular programs that load at startup are Zone Alarm, Windows Messengers, NOD32, AVG Anti-Spyware, Sound...
What is the best way to speed up the startup process?
I have a Gateway desktop with Win 98, SP3 that is getting progressively slower --several minutes to boot up and 30 -60 seconds between commands. I have deleted files and cookies regularly.
I need help.
May be time to get a new system.
What size HDD? How much free space? How much RAM?
and the list goes on.
hi guys, is there a way to increase wifi speed to make i go fast like a cable connection?
any surgestions would be good?
1)Your Router needs to support the new Wireless-N standard up to 600 mbs from the presemt 54 mbs (WIRELESS-G).
2) Your Wireless card need to support it too.
Wireless-N routers are a bit more expensive -- and the problem is that if you are using a Laptop it's not easy to change the wireless chip so you'll have to use an external USB Wireless-N card -- also not cheap.
I don't think there will be too many PUBLIC WI FI places that will have wireless -n system for ages yet so you are stuck with wireless g @ 54 MBS max.
If you are on a shared wireless connection then the number of users will also slow it down -- especially if you have a load of users such as in a Hotel downloading Music / streaming audio into their hotel rooms etc.
Here's a wiki on Wireless-n (do further research as always with wiki).
You have probably seen plenty of threads on this but I would like a personal judgment opinion on how i should do this. Thanks

I recently purchased a new computer (parts) from Newegg. My motherboard is an ASRock P45XE,
My processor is an E8400, and I have 4GB of G.Skill DDR2 1066.
In the BIOS settings, I change the FSB of my processor from 333 to 356. Which is 3.0Ghz to 3.21Ghz. Increasing this, changes my DRAM frequency from 1066 to 1138. For some reason, my computer won't function after the BIOS screen with 3.21Ghz AND DDR2 1138.
Although, I am able to run my computer safely at 3.21Ghz and DDR2 854.
So my question is... Should I run my computer at 3.0Ghz and DDR2 1066? Or should I run it at 3.21Ghz and DDR2 854? For the best performance
You can OC and manually set a divider in the BIOS to allow you to run your RAM and FSB at different speeds. For your given numbers, you can set a RAM:FSB divider of 8:5.
Your OC may also be limited by your motherboard. But generally speaking, a higher CPU frequency nets a greater boost in performance compared to a higher RAM frequency.
well ive checked out some otther threads and i dindnt get the part on how
to increase the speed on bit torrent or on utorrent ive seen some videos too
but how do i increase the speed too somthing like 512kb or somthing alike please
anybody who knows anyrhing about this please help
Bit torrent and the like are peer to peer software and work on the basis that you take pieces of the item you want from people who have either the full file or part of it, in a sense this means the actual download speed is dictated by how many people are giving the file (seeding) and how fast there connection is to the internet, if for instance the majority were still on an old dial up then you would see a slow connection and download rate, however if they have a good broadband speed then the download speed would increase.
You cant do anything about the speed other than to try and get a file from those who have a good internet connection, as this isnt something you can guess at then your stuffed and have to wait for the file at whatever speed you can get it at.
I will say this, ensure your router (if you use one) has the correct ports opened on it to allow BT to connect properly, and remember that BT itself is an illegal method of sharing files and you run the risk of being taken to court for any files you choose to download.
hey, can you help me, how can I increase my speed in firefox, I've heard that this can be done, but I do not know how . also, how could I disable windows defender in order to save resources?
You can disable windows defender in control panel/security settings.
I don't use Vista anymore, but think that's right.
Not sure about Firefox its fast already.

I was told by a friend of mine that if I want to increase my computer's speed, I need to increase it's memory. Is this true? If so, what do I need to increase... the RAM, the hard drive... what? And if i'm totally off, what do I need to do in order to increase my PC's speed? (Connection, pulling up files, launching programs, etc...?)
Any suggestions or comments?
I'm using Mobidata Edge Modem. My internet connection is very slow. I found some speed increasing software, using them but don't get useful result. Have any solution how can I increase my speed, have any technique?
the best way to have faster internet that i have found is:
1: use a computer that is cheap to replace. (older is usually the case here)
2: use a wired connection
3: Firefox with add blocker (most adds are images, get ride of them get ride of about 1/2 of the page download)
4: set Firefox to delete all cookies and temp files when closed. (not with addons, just with the normal settings)
5: do not use any software that effects any programs dealing with the internet.
*no anti-virues, firewalls,un-needed addons, web sharing. ~ this is why you want to use a cheap fix computer*
if you do this:
you want to keep any thing you want to keep on removable memory (and backed up).
virus removal software on the computer but not constantly running. (manually scan)
and an operating system disk for the computer to reinstall if needed.
i have an old 98 computer that i use like this... when i use it i never seem to have any problems... but when others use it i always seem to have to scan/reinstall.
BTW i have tried a lot of different speed increasing software but i have not found any that works at all.
also some changes to your network card settings might help.
hi is there any idea to improve downloading speed on torrent site. beause my net speed is acual 32kb/ps ...... and i wish to increase it..... if any suggestion then please tell me
You really can't increase the speed of a torrent download. It is all based on the speed of your connections, and how many hosts you are downloading from. That is about as far as I can go without getting into detail.
hi there, i have a sony ericsson wireless pc card for laptops and the highest download speed i get is about 16k and that is with full reception. Is there some way to make this go faster. i heard some people say something about unlocking ur pc card to make it go faster? is that true and how do u do this. Or is it up to the phone company to do so? Or is this the fastest such a pc card can work?
I'm using a desktop. Everything is fine with it except the speed at which it works. In it Intel Pentium G630 processor is present .processor speed is 2.7 Ghz.3 mb cache . 2GB Ram. And Windows 7 ultimate.
I don't use for playing. I just use for office work and browsing. So to increase its speed , should I upgrade the RAM or I should change the processor? Or anything else can I do to increase the speed of my computer?
upgrading the RAM may help
Have a look at task manager performance tab and see if the CPU is running at 100% or if the Memory is swapping a lot
Is this Windows 7 ultimate a genuine copy - if not that may be the issue , I have seen lots of issues like this with non-genuine copies of W7
please post the results from the following tests

Hi..I currently have three computers all wireless located individually in three rooms of our home..the connection is find on these computers which are serviced by broadband using a 54 Mbps on 2.4 GHz frequency wireless firewall router (Trendnet) located in the den of our home...I have tried to re-locate the wireless router as central as possible relative to these three computers however, the computer in the room that is closest to this router gets faster response time than the others...is there a range booster or something I can connect to my wireless router to strengthen the signal so that these other computers can also get quicker internet response?
Here are a number of external antennas that will increase range, both directional and omni-directional, depending on the locations of all the workstations.Hi-Gain™ WiFi Range Extending Antennas
Here's a power booster that would also help in increasing the range of the router: HSB2 - Hi-Gain WiFi Signal Booster
Hello to all of you!
The speed of my Local Area Connection is : 100.0 Mpbs.
Here`s the problem.
The most frequent download speed I get from (Steam, IDM or Browser downloads) ranges 100-120 KB/s.
But sometimes I get about a speed ranges 900 KB/s or even 1MB/s higher.
Can someone tell me how can I make it stay with 900 KB/s?
If your connection is 100Mbps then you should get downloads of 12MB/s. However, I think you are mistaking LAN connection speed with the speed you are getting from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). You can only increase Internet download by switching to a better Internet plan from your ISP.
LAN speed is the speed you can get while communicating with other local PCs that are wired to the router.
To change the openning speed of icons in different system pages, you can modify the Max Cached Icons in the registry. Can we do the same thing with the miniatures (photos)?
I input data to forms a great deal and would like to know if there are ways in which to speed up this process? Particularly, I would like to know if there are any apps that allow you to enter often-used bits of text with one or two keystrokes, or just a few keys pressed together.
I have googled for this but had no joy.
Thanks in advance.
AutoHotkey works very well for this type of task.
Go to the site, download and install the software, then go here http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/Tutorial.htm, read through the tutorial and write a few simple scripts to get familiar with how it works.
Does port forwarding increase the speed of the internet connection provided by the ISP? I am getting a router this Tuesday and looking to port forward.
Nope, has nothing to do with your speeds. Port forwarding allows applications to receive unsolicited requests from the Internet for server and game applications.
What does this do? How does it make it faster?
Or you could install the FasterFox extension and let it do all the about:config edits automatically. It changes the settings you mention and a few more, with several presets for ease of use.
If you use this, I would recommend disabling the 'prefetch links' and 'page load timer' options.
Sorry for the bad explication.
My issue is that when I am upstairs windows 7 says there is 5/5 bars as connection (same as downstairs)
But when I am upstairs I am lucky to reach 2mb/s
Downstairs I get 10mb/s(normal for me)
Could this be a driver issue?
Could be a driver issue, a signal noise issue (even if you are getting 5 bars) or could be your upstairs PC is using the G band when the downstairs is using N band.http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/258225-big-decrease-increase-internet-speed.html

i cant figure out how to increase my fan speed. ive downloaded Riva Tuner and SpeedFan but the options that are supposed to be there to change the fan speed are not there. ive watched youtube tutorials, but im missing some of the option under customize in riva tuner. Help Me!! I have an hp pavilion DV2000 and windows 7 OS. Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 chip.
A DV2000 doesn't have a GPU fan, the fan assembly is just different depending on whether the laptop is a UMA or discrete video version. Is the laptop overheating? If so it's more likely something like dust buildup within the internal air path. A search suggests some users of that model think it runs hot and use it with an external cooler.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/388371/how-do-i-increase-fan-speed-on-a-geforce-go-6150-gpu/
hi guys i just want to increase speed of bitcomet as well as no. of seeds connected by bitcomet as someone told me that more no. of seeds connected will result in more downloading speed
Hello, there is no way to speed up your download speed. If you're ISP is giving you, let's say 20Mbit, you'll get ~20Mbit, and no more.http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/211484-want-increase-downloading-speed-bitcomet.html
I tried many software's but none is working like it should.i m getting only 35 mbps transfer speed that too only in drive to drive copy.if its for drive to pendrive or something else means i get 7mbps only.but the time of copying just for a 1 to 3 sec it shows the transfer rate of about 180 mbps.cant we maintain that speed as a constant?plz help me.

My network has a 10mbps connection down and 1.5mb upload speed. I'm trying to move all my GBs of files to another computer using the network. When I start transfering, it goes at 1.1MBps, which I'm fine with. But then as time goes by, it decreases, and now it's going at 200kbps (and is STILL decreasing slowly). Is there a reason why it does this? Why can it not remain at 1.1MBps? At this rate, it'll take a few days to finish =\

I have a pretty new laptop, 2.13 ghz AMD 2800+ processor. On the system properties screen it says it is only a 508 mhz processor, and yet in safe mode it says it is running at 2.13 ghz. I called the manufacturer and they said it runs at 508 mhz to preserve power. I am wondering if there is a way to change this and make the processor move faster... I have ordered some new ram for the machine as well, but I would like to see the processor work at its full potential. Any response is appreciated. Thanks!

I got a quad CPU Q6600 @2.4 Mhz

DisplayLink USB display adapter (2)
Is it possible to allocate more memory to the Graphic cards or to the USB display adapter
Any modification as to make sure that my system maintain a high stability.
I'm not looking to overclock unless I could do it and maintain PC stable

I used to have a P5B motherboard, but can't recall all the options in the BIOS. That's where I'd look for more control.
Have you minimized running processes and applications as best you can?
The Quad 6600 was a great processor in its day, but is getting a bit long in the tooth---4 or 5 years old.

when i turn the fan speed knob the temp dosnt go down more than 1 degree or nuthin at all(celcius)
do i need different thermal grease, or more or less (is there such a thing as too much?)

Welcome to TechSpot forums
Maybe the temperature doesn't drop much because the hot air stays inside the case. In other words, how's the airflow in & out the case?
