Can I Install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflict?

Q: Can I Install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflict?

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Zaph

Preferred Solution: Can I Install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflict?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have recently installed Office Professional Plus 2016 (the full package, with nothing left out, as well as Outlook 2016). However, I recently discovered that Outlook 2016 doesn't support the Business Contact Manager addin.

So, can I install only Outlook 2013 (and BCM) alongside Office 2016, without removing/breaking either? Does anyone else have this setup working without issues?

Thanks!

Hello

I installed office 2007 ultimate alongside office 2003 professional. Microsoft outlook and publisher was removed from my office 2003 prior to office 2007 installation. I also opted not to install microsoft outlook 2007.

It seems that each time I load word 2007 or 2003 after previously opening the other version (ie. load 2003 followed by 2007 OR load 2007 followed by 2003), a window would opened up indicating that either the configuration or installation process is taking place, hence delaying the startup. However, once the program has started, it would run without problem. I do not intend to unistall my 2003. There was no problem loading excel 2003/2007, powerpoint 2003/2007 and access 2003/2007.

I am running on Windows XP SP2 that is regularly updated. Thank you

Try deselecting Word as your Outlook Email editor. I suspect that will be the issue, as it reconfigures Outlook 2003 each time to the changed Word version?

Hi there
Just a quicky -- apart from using say a VM for testing Office 2010 I'd like to install on an existing machine so I can compare immediately if there are any significant differences between Office 2007 and 2010 before deploying for a lot of users.

I've never tried running two versions of office on the same machine -- are there any implications such as incompatable DLL's with the same name etc.

Anybody runnung both versions (32 bit even though I'm running W7 X-64).

I have a small problem that maybe someone can assist me with.
I recently purchased a new note book with Windows 7 and also purchased Office 2010, Home edition.
I downloaded the software and input my activation code satisfactorily and everything appeared fine, but when I reopen say, Excel or Word I get a message asking me to enter my activation code, but the heading on the message says ?Office 2007? although my software indicates ?Office 2010? at the top of the page.
Is it possible that my note book came with ?Office 2007? preloaded and doesn?t recognise the fact that ?Office 2010? is now loaded?
It also indicates that I can only open again 23 more times.
Your assistance would be appreciated.

A:Office 2010 conflict with Office 2007

Hi sidean & welcome,

Did you do a search to see if Office 2007 was listed on your computer?

As you are having an activation problem I would suggest you contact Microsoft Product Activation Center / Support directly.

Note with the phone option -
Step 5. If the automated service is unsuccessful, stay on the line and your call will be transferred to a Microsoft Product Activation Customer Service representative who will help you to activate your product. The representative will give you a confirmation ID number if your copy of product is genuine.

hi
i have installed office 2010 and in excel i need to save files in wk4 file formate .. and excel 2010 is lacking this feature. whereas excell 2003 has this feature.

can i install excell 2003 alongside office 2010 ?
i need word/outlook/access/onenote/ in 2010 format . whereas excel in 2003.

what are its implications?

A:install excell 2003 alongside office 2010

Are you aware that Microsoft will no longer support Office 2003 after April 8, 2014. So you will lose support & updates on Excel 2003, which could make it very vulnerable to virus attacks etc..

Is the wk4 file format used in saving Lotus 123 spreadsheets?. With the above in mind is there any way, you can change over to the fully Excel system, as it would seem you are getting forced into a corner & have to eventually change over.

Whether Excel 2003 will work alongside Office 2010 is something I don't know.

Can anyone tell me how to re-install Microsoft Office? I've just had to do a complete re-install of Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition (as a parallel, repair function was not working on the original version) after a blue screen error nightmare followed by issues with the keyboard and mouse not being recognized. Those issues are now resolved and I was able to keep my data. I see everything in the system has been restored except Microsoft Office 2007. I can see the files but cannot access the actual program. My word and excel files are there but I cannot open them without the program. I do have the Application and Drivers & Utilities CD's (DELL Dimension E520). Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello everyone,
I realize the huge gap between MS Office 2016 and Sharepoint 2007 so obviously, there will be some compatibility issues. So this is more of a general question than a problem.

Does anyone know of a way that I can have MS Office 2016 work with Sharepoint 2007? I'm able to navigate through Sharepoint and everything. I'm able to open documents. However, it seems after I edit a document, I can't save it/upload it to Sharepoint, whether I have the document checked out or not.

If there really isn't a way, it's not big deal. I have a Windows 7 desktop that I currently remote into that has Office 2010 installed that works the way I need it to.

I have been running Microsoft Picture it 2001 for a long time and over the weekend installed Office 2007. I had previously been using Office 97.

When I tried to use Picture it after installing Office 2007, I got an error saying the GIF grahics filter is missing. I uninstalled and reinstalled Picture it from the disk but get the same error message.
I am guessing Office 2007 has something to do with this problem.
Any advise?

Hi
I have just installed office 2007 and for some reason the links to Adobe writer do not come up in any of the applications. Also when I try to create a PDF file from aword document I get a message saying PDF files missing do I want to run rn repair mode. I have done this to no avail.

Adobe can create PDF files from Notepad so I feel it hads to do with 2007 as when I was running 2003 I had no problem. I was using Adobe professional 7. As I needed to create a PDF urgently I downloaded Desk PDF a small free prograamme and it worked perfectly and installed a short cut to the programme in all the office applications.

It is very frustrating not to have the full use of Adobe Writer has anyone come across this problem, any suggestions are most welcome, thanks in anticipation.

You didn't say what types of accounts they are, but mostly likely there isn't a way, unless there is a third-party tool or these are Exchange accounts.

Good day all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but after I installed Office 2016 Pro, I noticed that it immediately pooped all of the Office apps onto my PC including ones that I really don't need. There's no custom option to select the ones you want and the ones you don't (unlike Office 2013).
I read that it's apparently intended to do so and Microsoft actually has called it a technology (Click To Run Technology).

I was wondering if there's ANY way to be able to exclude apps before the install so that they won't install. Is there a file that I can edit and if so, how exactly should I edit it?

A:No Custom install for Office 2016?

Folks have complained about this same problem in the Windows 10 forums -- and the response there is that MS has removed the option to choose what components to install.

Hello,

When I try to open a 2007 Word or Excel document I recieve as an attachment in Outlook 2003, I get the following message:
"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". Office 2007 compatibility pack was installed and it still did not work.

I then uninstalled Office 2003, uninstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack and then I ran CCleaner to clean up the registry. I updated my OS (currently has Windows XP SP3) with all updates, reinstalled Office 2003, installed Office 2003 SP 3 and then reinstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack.

I still get the same message when I try to open an Office 2007 attachment in Outlook 2003.

OS is Windows XP SP3 fully updated
Office 2003 SP 3 fully updated

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any hel on this issue.

I have used Open Office for years with no problems. It's easy to save as a Word document. I bought a new new computer wrote several items, saved in OO. This computer doesn't have Word installed so I installed Office Start (not knowing the difference). Now every OO document on my desktop is taken over by Word - literally with a big W. I can't open it unless I agree to a long list of rules, including personalized ads, which I don't want.

I'm not very computer savvy and don't know if I should uninstall Office Starter.

A:PLEASE HELP RESOLVE OFFICE 2003 AND OFFICE 2010 CONFLICT

When you switch between an Office 2010 program and an older Office program, it goes through that configuring process.  I read somewhere that this is because each version of Office has entries in the registry with the same names but are set differently so it has to go through this little gooney bird dance.  If it's the ribbons (and lack of the menu bar) you don't like in Office 2010, there's a neat little program called Ubitmenu you can download and install that gives you an old style menu bar with most of the Office 2003 features on it.

Burn another DVD. Something might have gone awry in the first one.

I don't have Office 2016. Mine is a 2007 edition.
So, I have a silly question :
Assuming the 2016 is still running in the old Win 7 computer. Are you allowed to install the same 2016 to another computer with the same license ?

Hi there

It looks like that a Student and Teacher edition of Office 2016 will be available at around 90 GBP - 105 EUR while an Office 365 subscription will be around 60 GBP - 73 EUR for 1 year. Since the Student edition will work on 3 machines it seems to me the subscription model is bad value compared with Office 2016.

Now there might be a caveat -- not sure if OUTLOOK 2016 is included with Student and Teacher --we'll have to wait and see.

There *Might* also be an Upgrade price from Office 2010 / 2013 too.

Is there any way to define an installation directory other than C: for office 2016? I tried installing it a few months ago and there didn't seem to be via the installer, and the Office Deployment Tool didn't let to choose the installation target directory, only the source.

How could they think for one second that it was appropriate to strip this option out of the installer?

I've had about enough of Microsoft's "fuck you, we know best" attitude. I just stopped using Windows 10 due to how increasingly difficult it had become to prevent indiscriminate automatic driver updates.

No.

While possible it is not recommended to install multiple versions of Office on the same computer. But they both must be the same bits. The only way this could be done is to install one on a virtual machine.

Hello,

A charity is considering upgrading its workstations to Office 2013 from Office 2007.
They have lots of files in the .docx, .xlsx, .xlsm, and .xltm formats that they would need to access on a daily basis.

- Would the upgrade cause compatability problems with working with files created under these above formats?

Good Evening Everyone,

I have a few questions concerning the Installation of 2010 Office. I know that I have to uninstall Office 2007. I have no clue on how to save or where to save my documents from Office 2007. The documents consist of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and a few various folders. Should I from the Start Menue click on Documents select all and copy. Where should I place this copy? Can It be left on my hard drive? After I install Office 2010 can I then copy the "Document File" and place in Documents. Will all the files end up in the proper place for their programs, Word files go to Word, Excel goes to Excel so on and so forth. Thank you so much for all your help and cooperation. It is greatly appreciated. I hope I described my situation correctly. I look forward to hearing from you.

A:2010 Office Professional Plus to Replace 2007 Office Small Business

But you don't have to uninstall Office 2007 to upgrade to 2010. That's the general rule as you can generally upgrade from lower SKUs to higher SKUs (Small Business to Pro Plus). As far as saving your documents, you can really save them wherever you like on your hard drive or on any CD or flash drive if you wish to do so. As far as file types, after 2010 is installed, they should all register properly for their programs so that Word documents open in Word, Excel Documents in Excel, etc.

Though if you have all of you documents already saved within "Documents" or "My Documents" or some other folder you've set aside and you want to uninstall 2007 before upgrading to 2010, the documents themselves will be retained when you uninstall, you just won't be able to really do much with them until you install 2010.

We have an upgrade on our computer units here in the company, my problem is when users save their 2007 excel files an error pops up, Errors were detected while saving "File Name". Microsoft maybe able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in new file, click Continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel.

By the way, the files were save on the file server and users access them through single roaming profile that we created with full access on their folders.
i am hoping i could find an answer.

Good Day,

I've often used the Files and Transfer Wizard to move files in the Windows XP environment, including those for people moving from Office 2003 to 2007, however, I've just been asked to move a person from a computer that would result in them moving backwards from Office 2007 to Office 2003; is this possible? What concerns should be considered? Obviously if they have a number of documents saved in the 2007 it could be problematic, though could the compatibility pack offered by Microsoft offset that concern? Thoughts? Thanks.

Jeff

Microsoft doesn't certify Office 97 to work with Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933305That being said, lot's of people on the web have gotten it to work with varying degrees of success.Ensure that you install the application in compatibility mode - both as "Run as Windows 98" and "Run as Administrator"Don't install Service Pack 2 - it has problems. But, from what I've read, it'll let you gracefully exit the SP2 setup if you started it.

Hello - I own multi-user version of Microsoft Office 2007 Pro and in May 2012 purchased a new ASUS A54C-TS91 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and Office 2010 Starter Edition. I need Powerpoint and Outlook in addition to Excel and WORD. I tried to install the entire app. assuming certain "limited" components of 2010 would be overwritten with the "better"/more robust 2007 - however, while it appears Office 2007 Pro loaded properly and is shown in Control Panel with proper date as installed, there is no file size listed...... I have read several similar posts but wanted to provide specific details for my situation. Anyone have a similar issue - what is best solution? Hey All,

Here is my issue. The Company we consult for has not transitioned all of the way to Office 2007. We have a number of machines that still have Office 2003. Compatibility Pack works on almost all issues.

Current issue is one of our users received a PowerPoint 2003 that has embedded PowerPoint 2007 files. When the user opens the PowerPoint 2007 file Office 2003 shuts down. He has to download the 2007 file to his desktop.

From what I can see this is because the file conversion process shuts down Office 2003 before attempting to open the PowerPoint 2007 file.

Another issue that may be complicating the error is we had to run a Fixit patch from Microsoft that was causing Excel, Word and PowerPoint to be scanned which caused long opening times. I don't remember the KB article for that one at the moment but will find it if I need to.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi everyone,

When I first got my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1), it had a preinstalled trial version of Microsoft Office 2007. I removed it via the control panel (Programs and Features) and installed Office 2010. However, I still get Office 2007 updates via Windows Update. They even installed successfully.
There are no Office 2007 components listed under Programs and Features.

Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553455) 32-Bit Edition

Windows Updates says they are important.

I do not have Office 2010 installed. Office 2007 is installed.

My security software keeps telling me I am at risk because my operating system is not up to date.

Any thoughts on what I should do?

If your computer is relatively new, it may have come with a trial install of Office 2010 - check the Start menu, and the Programs & Features listing.
You may also have installed Viewers for things like PowerPoint 2010, which still require updates.

I installed office 2007 (full install after uninstall of office 2003) on vista yesterday and every time I open an office product, it gives me a message ?please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office professional 2007?. Then it pops a window with a status bar for ?Configuration Progress?.

I looked this up online and it said that this was caused by installing as a user, not an administrator. So I uninstalled office entirely, booted, and reinstalled as administrator.

Still doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey guys, my wife is taking a course that requires her to install Office 2010. The issue is that she wants to preserve her current setup which includes Office 2003 and 2007 existing side-by-side on her Windows 7 (64-bit Home Edition) notebook.
The 2003/2007 setup is not one that she really wants to mess with (i.e., she has no interest whatsoever in uninstalling the two Office suites that she currently has), so ideally she would like to have Office 2010 installed temporarily (for the duration of her course) on the machine without interfering with the current setup.
What is the most painless way of doing this that does not involve shelling out for a second computer?

I had a similar situation here but in the end I opted out.

I removed both Office 2003 and 2007 and installed 2010, I then used virtual XP and installed 2003 there, 2007 and 2010 are too similar and the dll's will 'bite' along the way.

Even my 2003 and 2007 gave me issues after some time.

Hi all.
Is it possible to run MS Office 2003 and MS office 2007 on the same machine.
I teach I.T. and many of my students, as well as the school computer labs have office 2003. For this reason I need 2003 on my machine.
That said I also am seen as the computer guru by fellow collegues, so often find myself sorting out their computer problems or giving advice on how to merge tables in word or create mark shedules in excel. Many of them have 2007, which is very different. Thus running 2007 seems like a good idea.
So is it possible to have both versions running on the same machine?
At this point I am using windows XP - tablet edition.

My laptop came preinstalled with the compatibility pack I installed Office 2010 Office pack 2007 compatibility and Office the day I bought the laptop Have been running for many months and never noticed this the default application to open docx files in the Microsoft Open XML Converter The default for doc files is Microsoft Word The only version of Word I have on my computer is If I remember correctly the laptop came with Office 2007 compatibility pack and Office 2010 a Office 2007 compatibility pack and Office 2010 trial version but I deleted that - I still have a link to quot reinstall MS Office trial quot Whenever I click on a docx file it opens in Word I m running Win -bit Home Premium but the -bit version of Office Here s the strange part if I set Word as the default application for opening docx files I lose the Word icon and get what I believe is the Wordpad icon the standard sheet of paper with corner turned over and lines on it as my icon for docx files The registry tells me that the defaulticon for docx files is Wordpad exe The icon for doc files is still the Word icon Same thing happens if I uninstall the compatibility pack which of course I don t even need and then I also lose my Excel icon and am quot iconless quot for Excel files If I try to set the default icon in the registry to the Word icon I get a tiny Word icon in lieu of the normal Word icon I discovered all this by following Office 2007 compatibility pack and Office 2010 this advice for being able to open Word docs stored on Microsoft s Skydrive You should not need the quot Compatibility Pack for the Office system quot if you have Microsoft Office I d start by uninstalling that Next I d do a repair installation on Microsoft Office During this repair be sure to install theMicrosoft SharePoint Foundation Support tool Installing that will give you the SharePoint OpenDocuments Class browser add-on which is among the System requirements for opening files from Office Web Apps in Office desktop applications The advice didn t work So really two questions How do I keep the Word icon if I uninstall the compatibility pack and or make the default program for opening docx files Word Any thoghts on how to make Skydrive work given that the advice above didn t do the trick nbsp

My boss wants me to install Office 2003 standard edition on a client's pc that has Office 2007 standard edition already installed on it. I don't know, why but this is what he wants. Are there going to be major issues with installing and using an older version of Office on the same system as Office 2007?

I have Office 2007 and it seems to me that most tasks require an extra click. Let me explain. In Office 2007 if I want to print I have to click on the office button on the top left and then click print. In Office 2003 there was a print icon on the taskbar that required one click. Is there anyway to setup Office 2007 so that some basic functions (print, save, open, etc.) can be accomplished with one click?

After installing and updating Office 2007 application for Vista 32 bit, upon opening Outlook, I continue to get an error message about repairing the pst.exe file. I know how to do the repair, however, I cannot locate the .pst file as Outlook will not open. A simple search does not locate the file, and the file is not residing where is should reside.

Thanks!

Hello
I currently have Office 2003 Student full version installed on my computer. I have received Office Professional Plus 2007 Student media version. Do I need to uninstall Version 2003 prior to installing 2007 or will installation of version 2007 automatically uninstall version 2003. Does all the information in my .pst file convert as necessary for use in Outlook 2007. There are two discs, one called "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007" and the other one called "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (Microsoft Office Communicator 2007". I'm guessing that the disk with the shorter title "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007" would be the correct one to install. What is the second disk with Communicator? My system is Windows XP SP2, AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor, 3800+ 1.99 Ghz 2GB Ram.

Ok, well up until yesterday my father was using Office 2000 with Microsoft binder for work. He just got a new laptop for work and he's got Office 2007 installed. From the looks of Microsoft's site it states that 'Microsoft Unbind is not included with Office 2007.' Looks like what I really need is Microsoft Binder from Office 2000. Is there a place I can download it (legally) or purchase it? He literally has thousands of binder files (*.obd) that he needs to be able to access. I've tried searching with nothing turning up.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

A:Microsoft Office Binder (*.obd files) with Office 2007?

So further searching turned up that Unbind for Office XP/2003 is just a waste of time for Office 2007 and no point in looking further into that.

So then I found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822622

Which seems to me if I can track down a Office 2000 disc I should be able to install JUST Binder 2000. Results show that it works along side Office XP/2003 so I don't see why it wouldn't with Office 2007. It would only be used to unbind old files, not create new ones.

If anyone has any other thoughts that would be great.
I'll look into what I wrote above tomorrow and post back with the results if need be.

Originally, I had Office 2003 installed in my computer, & a trial version of 2007 that had already expired.
Today I installed a full version of Microsoft Office 2007, without removing any of the other two versions from my computer. I realized that it seemed to automatically remove the older version. I`m not bother about it not being there, as I got the new version, but I wonder if this is an automatic uninstalling that Office does, or if the version is still there but I can`t see it, as I would like to remove it properly if it`s still somewhere in my computer.
I checked in Control Panel & the only thing I can see is "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007", the full version I just installed, & everything that come with it. No 2003 anywhere.
Does this mean 2003 is fully uninstalled?
Thanks a lot!!

A:My office 2003 disappeared after installing office 2007

You can check to see if it is fully uninstalled (I am sure that it is) by going to search and typing the name there. If it is still present, the program will appear.

Worst case scenario, just remanants will remain. Download and use ccleaner. If you run this software, you can be certain that 2003 has gone to software heaven.

If given the option not to use the reg cleaner inculuded in ccleaner take it. I and many others at the forum feel that reg cleaners do more harm than good.

I purcased MS OFiice 2010 Professional through the MS Home Use Program to replace MS Office 2007.

I received the link and product key via e-mail; I've ordered the CD's but they won't arrive for another 2 weeks.

Several posts indicated that I should uninstall the 2007 version, then install the 2010 version. If I do that, I won't have access to the e-mail for the download.

Should i just install 2010 over 2007, or wait for the CD's?

Wait for the DVD, or download the ISO then write it to DVD for installation. After installation, activate it with the licence key you purchased.

On my laptop I was running MS Office 2003 Professional. I decided to upgrade to MS Office 2007 Professional. I thought my CD and key were legitimate. After installing, I found I couldn't activate the software. The new installation apparently wiped out the MS Office 2003.

Is there anyway for me to return to my MS Office 2003? I'm using a Dell and tried to return to a previous setpoint, but that didn't work, something about a patch missing.

Any ideas?

A:Had To Re-install MS Office 2007

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! I am afraid there is no official way to get the 25 digit code (licence code) for Microsoft Office. This is a licence code that the user/owner needs to keep. I am not familiar with a procedure that vendor like HP to install full edition of Microsoft office on computers that came preinstalled with Office. What you probably used to have was Microsoft Office trial edition or some demo edition with limited functionality.  Could you elaborated on few things: - what it was before - where you got this Office from and how it worked before? - you write "Had To Re-install MS Office 2007" - where you got the installation ISO/media from ? - please elaborate on that "later thing" about deleting user account - what exactly you did and what caused Office to stop working that now requires licence key - it may be connected to this issue. Looking forward to hearing from you.
