Shared printer problem with windows 10 printer default manage

Q: Shared printer problem with windows 10 printer default manage

Hi to all.

I am having an annoing problem with shared printers.

The user that share a printer lose the default printer in any case when another user print on this shared and it turn immediatly default printer only for the user that share the printer.

The printer shared is a label printer without network port and all was working very well before this , in my opinion, unusefull improve.

All user have the " not manage default option" , win 10 pro but seems that "default option" do not effect at all with shared printers.

It is clear that is a very bad working for the sharing printer user that have to check every time what the actual default printer.

any suggestion or is it a win 10 bug ?

ciao

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Help I understand that Windows has a new feature that automatically = printer default Problem "Manage OFF" my -- Printer Default sets your effective default printer to the last device used unless Default Printer Problem -- "Manage my default printer = OFF" you explicitly turn OFF the quot Let Windows manage my default printer quot feature I have turned this feature OFF and checked that it is off a thousand times slight exaggeration However Windows keeps moving my default printer to my DYMO label printer Every other day when I do a Quick Print of a WORD document Default Printer Problem -- "Manage my default printer = OFF" it prints to my DYMO label printer instead of the printer I have set as my default Dell laser printer -- Default Printer Problem -- "Manage my default printer = OFF" and spits out multiple DYMO labels with the contents of my WORD doc I had experienced a similar problem on work PC when Windows was first installed Our IT folks searched for a solution for weeks and yes the new Windows feature was turned OFF but after trying several fixes they gave up and did a clean re-install of Windows which fixed the problem With this success at work with a clean install last weekend I bit the bullet and did a full clean C Drive format and full re-install of Windows including a re-format of my C drive but the problem is back I wondered if Windows was missing my turned OFF feature however when I do a test of using the DYMO Printer it does not move the default printer to the DYMO -- so at the very least the problem is not caused everytime I print to the DYMO label printer Also when you turn ON the quot Let Windows manage my default printer quot the word quot Default quot against your desired printer is replaced by the words quot Last Used quot When this problem is happening the word quot Default quot magically moves from my Dell cn to my DYMO printer on my Printer amp Scanner control panel display in Windows If DYMO driver was doing this switch I do not even know if it has the power to do this you would think it would be consistent on every use of the DYMO however it is not The only regularity seems to be that it happens about once a day -- often on the first use of the PC that day as if gremlins move the default printer setting in the wee hours every night This is driving me off the deep end and every time I search for help on this problem I find of posts explaining that I should turn off the quot Let Windows manage my default printer quot feature BUT I HAVE I just sat down at my PC this morning and again the default printer has switched again to my DYMO and here is a screen shot I took of the stupid Windows feature turned off Is anyone else experience this frustrating problem Can you help Gary

I install a printer on windows 7 desktop and shared it so my laptop can print to the printer, but when i tried to install it on my laptop i get the error message "Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709) Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."
The printer is in fact installed and it is possible to print a test print, just not set the default printer.i can not set it as default either even after changing the printer from USB to TCP/IP

Hi,
We have five terminals in our parts department, all running Windows XP-PRO. We had an Epson cx6600 printer on one of the stations and set to share with the others. We switched the printer to another terminal and set it up the same way but it will only work from the terminal it is slaved to. We have shared it and added it to the other terminals. We have even gone back to the original set up with the printer attached to the original station and it will now work only with that station!!! We are able to use all of the other shared printers in our network with no problems. We have uninstalled and reinstalled twice but have had no luck. We are going "nuts" trying to figure this out. Any ideas? Thanks.

A:shared printer problem

When you added it to the other terminals did you also remove the original instance of it?
That is to say on one of the non-printer connected terminals you had the network printer "Epson on T1" installed. Now you have added "Epson on T2". If you did not remove "Epson on T1" then your applications may still be defaulting to that (absent) printer.

What apps are you printing from and what error messages do you get when you try to print? If you find the printer on one of the non-printer connected terminals and right click on it to select properties there is a 'print a test page' button. What happens when you try that?

A:Shared Printer Problem

This is a procedure that may work for installing network printers when the normal install doesn't work properly.
Select: Control Panel, Printers, Add Printer
Choose Add Local Printer.
Uncheck the box marked :Automatically detect my PnP printer.
Click Next
Select Create a New Port and leave the default in the drop down selection as Local Port.
Click Next
Windows displays a small dialogue box asking a port name.
Key in: \\<computer_name>\<printer_name> See note below
Click OK
Windows will show a list of printer vendors and models. The list looks just like the Windows Add Hardware Dialog. Select your printer manufacturer and printer model from the list. If your specific printer isn't shown, you can click on Have Disk and browse to the folder where you have the unpacked drivers for your printer.

Note:
<computer_name> - Computer name from Control Panel, System status display.
<printer_name> - The actual name of the network printer viewed by browsing to the shared printer on the network.

A:Shared Printer problem

I'd try uninstalling the driver, then install it like you have the printer locally connected. You willhave to pack the printer down and connect it for the install. After the install and getting the drivers working with a local printer, put the printer back on the original machine. In the properties of the printer on the remote machine, go to the Ports tab. Create a new local port and for the port name, use the full network path to the printer, i.e. \\<computer name>\<printer name>

See if that resolves the issue.

I have a printer attached to my W2K machine that is shared out to my home network. A laptop running XP SP2 was always able to print to the shared printer before now cannot print. I have the settings set to save the spool files on the W2K machine that has the printer direct attached so I can see what was printed and reprint if necessary. The problem is that everytime the XP machine prints, the spool shows the print entry and a status of "printed". However it does NOT print. Nor can I restart the print job. The weirdest part is that when I print a test page from the XP machine it works fine and shows a status of "printed". Does anyone have any ideas for me?
TIA

Hi Guys,

I'm getting quite frustrated with this issue and wondering if anyone has seen it, and able to resolve the issue. The issue is I have a network printer selected as the default in Windows 10. I have the option "Let Windows manage my default printer" turned off. At one point randomly, the default printer goes back to the Adobe PDF as the default.

Steps taken:

* I have checked the registry settings to ensure that the options "let Windows manage my default printer" is switched off. I can confirm this.
* Switched the default printer back to the network printer and performed a reboot. The network printer remains as the default. At some point of the day it goes back to Adobe PDF.
* Had a Microsoft support dude to look at the issue, but he has no idea either.

A few of my pilot users has also experience the same issue. Any ideas anyone?

How mine is set up is
In settings
Go to Printer icon
Make sure your named printer is in default.
Turn on let Window manage your default printer.

Printer - Turn On or Off Let Windows 10 Manage Default Printer

That way if your printer you named was the last one used
The next time you go to print
Your printer should appear

This morning we installed Win2k service pack 4 on our server. Shortly after, our networked HP LaserJet 4si stopped printing correctly. Test pages still printed fine, but everything else would come out blank or with a single line on it. I remember having a similar problem last year and I found advice somewhere that said to install the LaserJet 5si drivers, and it worked at the time. I tried that again and it didnít work. I brought the printer over to my desk and installed it locally with the 5si drivers and it worked perfectly (I have W2k sp3). I put it back on a network connection, deleted and reinstalled it on the server, and I still get the problem of being able to print test pages but not anything else. Also it now shows one document in the printing queue that canít be removed by pausing and canceling all documents. Any suggestions?

A:Shared Printer: HP LaserJet4si problem

I got a chance to restart print spooling so I at least got rid of the document in queue, I'm still having problems printing. I thought for a second it was a problem with file size since I could print a 1-line txt file but not a 1-line MS Word file. Then I tried a 21kb txt file and it worked while a 19kb Word file doesn't...

I am now fairly certain that it is a fonts problem since Notepad works but Word doesn't. Also I can print out the google homepage but it comes up with just the big "Google" (a jpg) and the underlines for the hyperlinks, but no text at all. I'm curious as to why there would be a problem with fonts all the sudden even though they printed fine from my computer and they used to print fine from the server computer as well. I'm kind of stuck now...

Dear friends

I have two pcs with Vista, and in one of them Im trying to share a printer

In the other vista machine I cant see the server machine in the network, so I opened Explorer and accessed it trough \\machine_name, and I could succesfully add the printer

However when I try to print the print job remains in spool till I reboot the server machine.

I applied these policies as suggested in other threads

Local Computer Policies\Administrative Templates\Printers
Allow print spooler to accept client connections > to enabled

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Printers\ Point and Print Restrictions > to disabled
and tried to disable the bidirectional support, but when I do that it wont let me print even locally, so I had to enable it back

What else can I do?

Thanks in advance for your help

A:Problem printing in vista's shared printer

I know this is simple and you probably already tried but I had the same problem and went into "network and sharing center" and found a combo of printer sharing "on" and password protected sharing "off" seemed to do the job. You may check these settings and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply. I checked all the settings as you suggested. The only one that was not correct was the one to use passwords and user accounts to connect.

When I use the add printer wizard it sees the printer but then gives me the access denied. See snapshot below. Also, I can see all the computer connected the network. When I click on the computer with the shared printer I can see the printer. If I click to connect I get the same error - please see snapshots.

However, on my new retail version of windows 7 professional 32 bit the printer does not respond to print jobs. The document sits in the que for a few seconds then it just disappears.

Hello techieguy, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums! Nice to meet you.

You could try plugging the printer into the 7 pro 32 machine and allow windows to install the driver. See if you are able to print directly. Then put the printer back on the XP machine and setup the device (the printer) again as a networked printer and check.

Question: Do all computers networked belong to the same "workgroup name" (not homegroup)?

Cheers!

Robert

A:Solved: Windows 7 and non shared printer.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

PING each remote computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. Open a command prompt as described above and type.

PING <ip address>
or
PING <computer name>

Where:
<ip address> - is the x.x.x.x IP address
<computer name> - is the computer name

A failure to PING is almost always a firewall configuration issue. Any failure to PING needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Note: You can obtain the IP address and computer name of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG /ALL. This should work for any Windows version. The IPCONFIG /ALL display will provide a wealth of useful information for debugging your network connection.

Check your Services are Started on all PCs:

COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Server
TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations)
Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic.

If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.
All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

If you encounter difficulties accessing computers that are visible in Network Places (Network and Sharing Center in Vista), make sure the computer being accessed has an account with the same name/password as the system connecting to it uses to login. NOTE: Vista's default is to require a password on the account to enable file/print sharing.

While the default NetBIOS setting is correct for normal network configurations, it's possible for it to be altered, and it costs nothing to make sure it's correct. NETBIOS over TCP/IP must be enabled for normal network browsing. You can open a command prompt as described above and type the following command: nbtstat -n. This will display the status of NetBIOS or indicate it's not configured.

Hello i Have the above problem while I try to share a printer on a domain network.
My windows firewall (localy) is also damage, is that the problem that I have to solve first?

Windows 8  - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties  [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved.  There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.   [OK]

A:Windows 8 - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. [OK]

You may need to reinstall the printer. Remove the printer driver from Control Panel\Programs and Features, then add the printer from Devices and Printers.

Please note that if the printer driver is not in the list in Devices and Printers, I suspect that the printer is currently not compatible with Windows 8. In this case I suggest you contact the printer manfuacturer for more information.

A:Problem creating network printer on Win7 shared from WinXP

If you want the printer to be in the network, then all the computers has to be in the same work group.
See, how to change the work group of your computer:
How to change your Computer Name (or Workgroup) in Windows XP – Simple Help

Then only the printer can be configured with those computer. Even if your printer is not wireless capable and your wireless router has a USB port, printer can be made as a network printer.

Windows 8 and 10 PCs were able to access printer and drive/files through shared printer and network sharing (map network drive) from Windows 7 PC. Upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now those other PCs cannot access printer nor the drive/files. I have been googling and searching on answers and nothing seems to help. Can finally map to network drive on windows 8 PC, but then is says access denied.

Your question isn't clear. Are the shared files/printers located on the recently upgraded PC? And, you're trying to access them from the Windows 8 and Windows 10 PCs?What type of Home Sharing did you setup on the newly upgraded system? Have you verified permissions?

Hi guys,

I was trying to search the web and this forums for an answer to this question but I couldn't find any sing of solution...

Problem is with this single PC in our LAN that is running windows 7 pro.
Whenever user reboots the computer and tries to print something on our shared printer he will be prompt with the re install driver message.

Other PCs are using shared printer without any issue and there are all kinds of PCs, running XP, Windows 7 x64, Windows 7 x86 etc...

Although after re-installation printing is successful this can be quite frustrating as sometimes happens few times on a daily basis.

Any ideas why this is happening?

btw, there is only one user account on problematic PC and that user account has administrator privileges.

Thanks
Dean

Hi Dolke , I am not an expert on this.. but.. could you give specs on the problematic computer.. I am sure it has all its updates.. this issue should not be happening if set up correctly for sharing .. i am stumped ..give us more info on the one computer and the type of network connections you have made for it to share .. lets see if we can get this sorted out..

It's a good idea when you come on this forum to use the Quick Links(you should see it near the top right section of the forum page in your browser - may vary depending on the forum skin you are running) then click Edit System Spec.

Otherwise it's almost unavoidable that the next 10 posts in this thread will be asking you what hardware, software, and amount of memory you have, etc..

Also if you post another problem clicking the specs button is all that's need to find your info.
If you have HP equipment it's well worth signing up to this forum:
HP Business Support Center

Even though it says "business" it's not a paid support. It's just people who all own HP equipment. I find there are many people on that forum who have used HP for years. Often they are more knowledgeable than phone support staff. A hotmail address works fine for signing up. It's free. Also there are downloads with original drivers and updates, and the software package as well as User Manual in PDF for any HP hardware you are likely to have.

Here is a very annoying problem...

I have several printers listed in Control Panel/Printers and Faxes. The one I use most of the time is the fourth one in the alphabetical listing. I select "HP Photosmart 6100 series" and set it as default printer and use it..prints just fine. Later on, when I try to print, I find that the default printer is now set for "Auto HP...", the first alphabetical entry. Haven't figured out what causes the reset; different program, different session, etc.

Any ideas?

Solved issue about sharp AR M-236 in Windows 8. I've been trying to connect to a shared printer on an OS running on Windows XP. No drivers were given for Winows 8. The first thing to do is disabling driver signature in Windows 8 that is given as default:
Disable Driver Signature Verification

Then you have to install the driver (depending on 64-bit or 32-bit architecture):
http://www.tradenet.sharp.co.uk/file.../ARM236664.exe
http://www.tradenet.sharp.co.uk/file.../ARM236615.exe

During installation you will be asked to specify whether the printer is shared or directly connected. Choose shared and then specify the canonical windows path, for example:
\\John\SHARPAR-236

where John is the computer where the copier Sharp Ar-m236 is installed and working...

Hope it helps

Hi everybody, I have a dilemna. A user on our network doesn't like the name of the HP laserjet printers she uses. These printers are set up on our Windows 2000 server with standard names such as '\\server\Executive Level 1 B&W Laser' and similar. The user wants us to change this to something like '\\server\Black and White'. Now we aren't going to do this on the server, it will be to confusing. Is there a way in Windows XP to change the display name of such a printer, only on the client PC? A registry hack perhaps? I have searched around, but can't find anything relevant. PLEASE HELP!

A:How can I change the display name locally of a Windows 2000 shared printer

I don't believe there is a way to change just a local name for the printer, windows will only recognize the printer exists with one name, assigned during install. It effects both the driver and the OS, the name has to be constant or you risk possible communication errors with the printer, creating more headaches for you. Sorry for the bad news, if anyone out there does find a reg hack for you, post it so I can see, I would be curious to see it work.

Hey guys,

Windows 7 had a feature where windows would select your default printer based on which network you are logged onto.

I cannot seem to find this feature in windows 10 for the life of me.

Has it been removed? I'm hoping it hasn't or there is at least some kind of registry hack to bring it back. What they seemed to have replaced this feature with "last printer used turns into default printer" is absolutely useless in my opinion. I can think of very few scenarios where that is actually helpful.

Hi I am not a 100 percent sure if this a first or not but I have a samsung clp-300 hooked up to my 64 bit win 7 and am sharing on the network with a 32 bit win 7. Every time I try to print from the 32 bit win 7 I keep getting an error "windows cannot print due to current printer setup". I have looked through the internet and this forum but, everyone seem to have problems between different OS's and non of the solution worked for me at all. The printer shows up in all the programs on the 32 bit and I have put it as default yet I cant print anything from the 32 bit at all. Some help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, having some problems with Windows Default scanner interface. Epson SX410 networked printer (connected to a router and serves a number of PC's, all Win7 64bit).

We have some specific software used to scan customer information into the program, sadly its been designed to use Windows default scanner interface.

The scanner does work through Epson Scan, and a few months ago I had successfully added so it functioned through "Scanners and Camera", accept since then the router has been swapped and for the life of me I can't figure out what, and how I'd managed to do it?

The device is simply not detected by "Microsoft Scan Service".

So the scanner works fine, accept not through the default windows 7 scanning software which is what I need.

Any suggestions?

Ive tried obviously re-adding the printer.

Thanks, James

Your host PC is probably going to power saving mode (sleep/hibernate) etc severing connections with your network. Change the host PC settings and you'll be fine

Okay, I have set up my wireless network and it is purring nicely but now I am totally stumped by my newest problem which is our shared printer. The printer is on my desktop and I have gone ahead and set it all up with both computers but you just cannot print from my wife's laptop. I have gone thru the trouble shooter and went as far as pinging each computer from the other. I can ping the desktop from the laptop but not the laptop from the desktop. Any clues here would be GREATLY appreciated.

"I can ping the desktop from the laptop but not the laptop from the desktop."

My first guess would be a firewall on the laptop is blocking access. Turn off Windows XP firewall and uninstall any others to see if this is your problem. Could be affecting the printing also.

I have a laptop with Windows 7 (home premium, 32 bit); I also have an XP (SP3) computer with two printers attached. An Epson 3800 and an Epson Workforce 30. Both are pretty new. I have installed the Epson 3800 driver on the laptop.

But both printers are connected to the XP computer via USB. When I try to create a new port for the Epson 3800 printer object on Windows 7, I get "Not enough server storage is available to process this command." What I do is right click on the icon in Devices and Printers, then Properties, then Ports then Add Port then I put the path to the printer on the XP computer \\ComputerName\Printer2 and that's when I get the error. Is this how it's supposed to done? Is there another way?

1. I assume that you had used windows XP wizzard to install a network printer right?

I'm having problems connecting a shared printer to a Vista system. I have a server with a shared printer; several laptops running win7 can access the printer. My Vista laptop can see the server, can see the printer, but when I try to add the printer, I get an error 0x00000709.

The printer drivers exist on both the server and the Vista laptop, the server and the laptop are on the same router. No errors show up in the event logs on either the Vista laptop or the server. I've tried adding it as both a networked printer and as a local TCP/IP port, all to no avail.

So - any ideas?

A:Shared Printer Madness

Check out the following post about this problem and see if anything there helps: http://www.chicagotech.net/netforums...pic.php?t=5969.

The following thread also addresses the issue, but comes at it from a completely different angle involving the use of a static IP address for the printer (among other suggestions). I'm not sure if this is the issue, but it's worth reading to see if it applies and if the suggestions are worth trying: Error when printing across through a router - Windows Vista Printers & Scanners.

There were many other articles on this error, but I reviewed most from the first 10 search pages and found none that offered any solutions but the two above.

I hope this helps. If not, post back and I'll try looking again (but after the time I've already spent, I'm not sure what else I'll be able to find though I will try).

Good luck!

The printer is the default printer for both PC's and shows up in the Control Panel/Printers box.

Any ideas on what can be happening and how to fix it?

I have my printer connected to a XP Home box and shared. I can connect to it and print fine on another XP box using my home wireless network.

I have a 3rd computer (laptop) running Vista. I can connect and print but it takes forever. For instance, when I have excel open and simply want to drag margins in print preview, it takes 5 to 10 seconds per margin. I get an hourglass waiting for the margin change. Same thing with Paint Shop, do a resize and it takes 10 seconds. To actually queue the print, is taking a few mins.

Is there something I need to run/install on vista if my printer is attached to a XP box?

A couple of computers will not print to the shared printer unless you go to \\<computer name>\<printer name and type in the username and password for that computer. There are other computers that do not have to do this and can print as soon as the computer is booted.

I have a local account on all of the computers with the same name, but the users login under different user names and not the account name that's on each system.

As soon as you authenticate to the computer sharing the printer, then the printer will work fine until a reboot occurs.

Why needs to be done so that the computers with the shared printer installed automatically authenticate as soon as the user logs in?

The printer is connected to one of the desktops and is shared on the network normally. All computers can access the printer, except one.

The computer that can't see the local printer is cabled directly into the LAN. However, at login, it connects to her company's domain. It can not see her local network or the printers on it. The only printers it can access are at her office.

Is there any way to make this computer see the printer on the local network?

thanks
mike

hi

I have a xp pc with a espon c900 printer shared.
In xp the printer wil be seen as a epson c900 advanced.

The printer also communicate whit the pc exp paper jam?

In vista the xp drivers won't work.
So on other forums a found the solution.
Install the printer local and map a port to the shared printre on xp an use the vista driver

Printing is ok.

But when i whant to install my status monitor in vista he won't commnunicate with the shared printer on xp.

An in xp it works fine. There i can see if the front cover of the printer is open and so on.

The status monitor works fin when the printer is connected on the usb port of the vista machine but not when the printer is connected to the xp machine

any help is welcome.

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if you can use the Windows 7 Windows Fax and Scan with a shared printer? I got my computer to print via the shared printer, pero when I attempt to preform a "New Scan," it says no scanner is attached to my computer. Any insight?

Thanks

A:Scan Through Shared Printer

A shared printer is a printer not a scanner so I am thinking it is not possible. Generally scanner functions are not available over the network even for large all-in-one business type machines.

I have a deck top (Dell with xp) with a printer set up to run from it. I also have a Dell laptop with Vista. I have tried to set up printer sharing for two days with no luck.I went through all the right processes(?) and when I go to print from my Vista I get a script message.

Is there a secret to doing this?

A:Need help connecting to a Shared XP Printer

PC's are connected via LAN?
Both printers work properly from their attached PC?

Disable sharing, delete the printer, uninstall any software/drivers for said printer from Add and Remove programs, reboot, and reinstall, configure, and share.

I'm back. Trying to share a printer on a WIN 7 PRO PC. Was working after much help from this forum but has now quit.

My PC is a Vista Home Premium. If I click on network the WIN 7 PC shows but if I try to open it to see the printer it gives me a message; Windows cannot access \\XXXXX-PC.

If I try to add the printer it doesn't come up so I click option that the printer I want isn't listed and try to add by name \\XXXXX-PC\hp psc 1300 series I get message; Windows cannot connect to printer. Access is denied.

Any short term help as I'm trying to get a report out.

Long term I'm in the market for a print server. Must be able to handle 64 bit.

Thanks
Chas.

A:Shared Printer seen, but won't print

This sounds like a port specification issue, or perhaps a driver issue on the remote machine. How did you install the drivers for the remote machine, and what version of Windows is running on the remote client?

Hi,
I have a LAN on which there's a mix of PC's across different Windows OS's.
One one such PC which is using Windows 7, is an Epson LX 350 which I'm wanting to share with another PC using Windows 8.1

The issue being faced is, the LX 350 keeps disappearing from the list of printers, yet it's always available on the Windows 7 PC to which it's connected.

Would really appreciate some help on this, pls.

Having great fun here trying to get an XP Pro machine connected to our new Canon CLC950 running off a Cyclone Colorbus RIP which is running W2K.
Problem is that as soon as the printer is selected (\\clc950\clc950) and press ok, i am presented with a Connect to: dialog and asked for username and password. I have tried the admin password for the cyclone, tried setting up user accounts on the cyclone to match other users on the network, all to no avail. Browsing the network, none of the shares on the CLC950 are available, again it just asks for a username and password, with the same results as trying to install the printer.
Other XP machines on the network have no problem connecting, as dont the Win98 machines.
Any ideas, or further information required that might be useful?

A:Cant connect to W2K shared printer from XP

Sounds like your not logged onto the network? Are all other network resources available? ie: can you see other pc's on the network etc. Are you logged onto the same domain as the PC sharing the printer??
