I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

my computer was updated early hours this morning, 13 December, but i notice now that my address book in my email Outlook is missing. how do I get it back? .... I presume it must still be there, somewhere!!

A:Address Book - Outlook - missing

Search your PC for a file called Scanpst.exe and run it. If they are any errors in your outlook PST file, it should fix it.

I've started having a number of problems with Outlook 2003. The latest is that when I want to create message and click on the To or Cc boxes, the Select Names box opens but there is nothing in the Shows Names from the: box, and the To, Cc and Bcc at the bottom are all greyed out. I've tried all kinds of things but nothing works. However, Contacts still has all the info in it so if I type a name in the To or Cc box, the email address appears.

A:Outlook 2003 address book missing

When the Outlook Address Book service has already been added and the option to select the Contacts folder as an Outlook Address Book is still disabled and greyed out, it means that the Outlook Address Book service is corrupted.
To fix this you can remove the Outlook Address Book service, restart Outlook, and then add it again as indicated by the steps above.
Sadly this workaround will not work in Outlook 2007, 2010 and 2013 as removing the Outlook Address Book service is not supported in these versions. In this case, you must recreate your mail profile.
(Re)creating a mail profile
Once you?ve located and opened the Mail applet, you can recreate your mail profile via the following steps:
1. Press the button Add?
- Do NOT use Copy? not even when you want to recreate your mail profile or you?ll end up copying the corruption as well.
- Do NOT delete your old profile, not even when it is corrupted, before you verified that the new one works. You might want to look up some account settings afterwards.
2. Enter a name for your new Mail Profile.
3. Select to add a new mail account.
4. Make sure you choose the correct account type. Ask your ISP or administrator if you do not know this.
- If you are using Live Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo or AOL, you can find the settings you need to follow to another page.
- In Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013, you can simply type your desired display name, email address and password and Outlook will try to determine and configure your account automatically. If this fails you can still choose to configure it manually with the information provided by your ISP.
5. Follow on-screen instructions to (further) configure your account. Again; Ask your ISP or administrator if you do not know these details.
Otherwise, you'll have to try some commercial recovery tools. Several are listed here: https://www.repairtoolbox.com/addressbookrepair.html Address Book Repair Toolbox

I've just rebuilt my PC and re-installed Office 2003. I have added my old personal address book to outlook, but I can't get an option to add new addresses to it.

Previously when I right clicked on an address in an email I got this a drop down with the following options (Properties, Send Options, Add to Contacts, Look up Contact, Add to Personal Address Book, Cut, Copy, Paste, Clear, Select All)

Now I get a completely different list (the email address itself, Schedule A Meeting, Getting Office Location, Call, Send Mail, Additional Actions, Create Rule, Send Options, Add to Outlook Contacts, Look up Contact, Outlook Properties, Copy)

Why am I getting this difference and how do I get the Add to Personal Address Book option back ? I've tried removing the address book and the contacts and adding it back, restarting outlook and the machine but no joy

I have done a fresh installation of Windows XP and I had saved my .wab files to drop them into the address book folder in the Outlook Express folder in Program files. But when I tried to do it I clicked on Outlook Express and when it opened the address book folder that is usually there is now missing. I have made sure that all files and folders are showing. If I just drop the .wab files into the Outlook Express folder in C:/ Program Files it doesn't work and my contacts don't show up in Outlook Express.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem?

Thank you.

Missing functionallity in 'Windows Mail' Contacts that was in Outlook Express 'address book'

I've just moved over from XP with Outlook Express 6 to Vista Ultimate using Windows Mail.
I've migrated my old XP Address Book into Windows Mail Contacts and my 50+ Contact Groups (my mailout lists) are visible BUT when I browse an individual contact there is no field that tells me which of my Contact Groups this person is in? In Address Book there was a field there.
I need this info for maintaining my mailout list. At the moment I can't tell if a person's email address is already on my mail out list unless I check each of the 50+ Contact Groups individually which can't be right!!!
Am I missing something - is this info there somewhere?
Thx

I exported my address book from Outook 2003 into the Windows (XP) Address Book. This is great because then I don't have to have Outlook open to view my address book.

However, it isn't linked to my Outlook address book so that whenever I made a change to my addresses in Outlook, it'll reflect in the Windows address book.

I had that set up perfectly in my old computer (Windows 98SE) but can't get it to work in XP.

Any tips or ideas?

I have tried to import my .WAB file from Microsoft Office Outlook 2002 to Outlook Express. I used File, Import from within Outlook Express. I select the .wab file to import, and I get a message in about 1/2 a second saying it has been done but no addresses are imported.
Do you have to have both programs open? Is there another way to import addresses into OE?

I have over 13 years of Outlook Express folders and addresses that I desperately need to convert to Outlook 2007. I should have imported them into Outlook before I made the "Easy File Transfer" to the new Win 7 machine, but didn't know I needed to do that. Several years ago I had imported the files into Outlook, although that data did transfer it is now way out-of-date and full of duplicates.

The up-to-date data is still in my old machine and also in an external hard drive backup. I have isolated the Outlook Express personal folders into .dbx format and the addresses into .wab format.

Is there a way this can be reformatted into Outlook? Or is there some other way? I would probably also need to delete what is already in Outlook first, or I would have many more duplicates.

I welcome any suggestions.

When I send an e-mail through Outlook and go to "To" to select the names of the people I want to receive it then it shows all the names of people/businesses in my Contacts many of whom don't have e-mail addresses. It would be much easier if it showed just those names that have an e-mail address. Is that possible? There does appear to be another source other than the Contacts where I could possibly draw names from called the Outlook Address Book but it says I can't even create any entries for that Book. How can I Export or Import a Netscape
Communicator E-Mail Address Book into
Outlook 97, or Export or Import an Outlook
Express Address Book into Outlook 97?

A:Outlook 97 Address Book

A possible solution. . .

I transfer an updated address book on a weekly basis from an AS/400 to Outlook97 on a pc.

I realise you are coming from a different starting point, but the first few steps may be relevant.

1) The AS/400 address book file is downloaded to a pc as an Excel file.
2) On the file menu of Outlook97 click on the option for Import and Export.
3) The list on the next screen (Import and Export Wizard)defaults to "Import from Schedule+ or another program or file". Accept the default and click Next.
4) On the next screen (Import a File) I click on "Microsoft Excel", but if you scroll down you will see that there is an item in the list for "Personal Address Book". That item might work for you.

Hi - I'm trying to set up my addresses in Outlook, having previously used WLM but although I have been able to do it in the past, I had to delete them and start again. This is the message I'm now getting. I tried online chat with Plusnet, but the person kept telling me to 1) remove my email address and then 2) send myself an email from Outlook. She then said it was an Outlook problem - any ideas, please?

Did that error appear when Outlook was testing the mail account settings? If it did then I'm not overly concerned. What happens if you ignore that and try to send a regular email? If it fails with a different error then post it here.

Copy Outlook Express address book contacts to Outlook
Scroll down to the section: Exporting Outlook Express contacts
Click on the + beside the option you want.
Import Outlook Express contacts into the Outlook Contacts folder or
Export the Outlook Express contacts to a Personal Address Book
You probably want the first.

If it won't reinstall, I suggest you go to http://www.mozilla.com and download Thunderbird, install it and import whatever you can rescue from OE. Thunderbird is a far superior e-mail handler anyway and OE has now been superceded by Microsoft with Windows Live Mail.

I have a distribution list built in Outlook for sending emails to multiple parties. Today, I wanted to send an email to only select members of that list...not all included in there. I just tried to do this by selecting individual addresses by clicking with control, then I hit the email button at the top of the Outlook page. When I do so, it opens a new email but it plugs in the entire distribuiton list. Is there any way around that?

A:Outlook Address Book Problem

The only (still painful) way I know of, it to select the Contact group. In the TO: list, expand the Group and delete the individuals yoy do not want to receive. On the bright side, the remaining people can be copied and a new more limited Contact Group created if needed.

I have been given an address book to maintain. I've pretty much figured out everything as far as setting up new contacts and groups but I do need some assistance.

This organization allows members of a certain level to obtain an @thiscompany.org alias address.

What the assignment of that address does is only forward to the members real email account.

Since I've just gotten involved, I need a way to do a reverse look up.

ie. [email protected] how do I find out who that belongs to, like a cross reference to the members name and real email address.

Is there a way to do this?

Outlook 2003 - XP...

I can't figure out why my Address Book and Contacts are different.
I'd like to update my Contacts to be the same as my Address Book, which is where my Outlook goes to address my mail.
I need to export my Contacts to import into my new Mac.
I can't see any way to export the Address book, or even save it to a PAB file, although I must have done it sometime ago when I first set up this system.
I do understand the Contacts is contained as a folder in my PST file.
But where does the Address Book file live and how do I use it to update my Contacts?
Am I crazy?

Hu Guys - and Happy New Year

I had to get a new computer - the old one crashed (I think I may have inadvertantly deleted a .dll file!). I was able to install the Old hard drive (which will not boot) in the new computer - so at least I have all my old files stored and have been able to transfer many to the new hard drive.

The new unit came with WinXP - and I installed MS Office 2003.
I used to use Outlook Express (in Win98) and liked the fact that I could organize my list of e-mail addresses into folders. I am now using OUTLOOK as my e-mail client and can't figure out how to organize the address book. I tried importing the old address book from Express with no luck. Okay, I posted earlier about Word 2002, now I am about Outlook 2002. It's on the same machine which leads me to believe the woman on it is doing something and not telling me, or that her machine is just posessed.

When she opens her address book, which is part of an Exchange environment, she does not see the Names field first. She sees the Business number, then the Email Type, then the Company, then the Name of the person or distribution list.

I've noticed there is no way of moving these fields around. You can resize them, but the three (3) that are in front of the Name field will be reduced to nothing if I do this.

Any suggestions? I'm really about ready to uninstall/reinstall Office.

I recently installed a new hard drive, but first made a backup of my Outlook PST file to reimport all my mail and contacts. When I click on the first, contact folder, I get the following message: "The addressess list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened. It may have been moved or deleted or you do not have permissions." I've tried deleting the first contacts folder, but it won't delete. The second Contacts list folder does contain my contacts. Do you think it is some kind of identity or permission problem? Any suggestions.

A:Outlook 2003 Address Book

Hi LindaR0923

Right click each of the Contacts folders in Outlook:
Properties > Outlook Address Book tab
Place a check mark in: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book
Apply, OK to save and close.

Repeat for each additional Contacts folder.
After completing the above steps, open the Outlook Address Book:
Tools > Options
Click the drop down arrow for: Show this address list first: and select the Contacts folder you want to appear when the Outlook Address Book is opened.

__________________________________________________________________________

If for some reason the above does not solve the problem, you may need to remove the Outlook Address Book and reinstall it.
In Outlook 2003 (with the Address Book closed):
Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing directories or address books > Next
Highlight each Address Book listed, one at a time and click the: Remove button.
Yes > Finish button.

Close and restart Outlook 2003, then add back the Outlook Address Book.
Tools > E-mail Accounts > Add a new directory or address book > Next
Select: Additional Address Books
Next
Highlight: Outlook Address Book
Next > OK

Close and restart Outlook 2003.

You may need to repeat these steps:
Right click each of the Contacts folders in Outlook:
Properties > Outlook Address Book tab
Place a check mark in: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book
Apply, OK to save and close.

Repeat for each additional Contacts folder.

the easiest way to do this is to open up Windows Contacts,Hit the Alt key. Go to Edit/Select All. Then Edit/copy. Open up OE/Address Book and go up to Edit and Paste. You will have to OK each contact that you have pasted into the Address book separately.

I accidentally deleted my Outlook Express address book. Now I cannot send outgoing e-mail. The messages say that I need to re-install it, but when I try to do that using the latest update from the Microsoft website, it says that I have a newer version of Internet Explorer and will not reinstall.

Evidently Outlook Express is part of Internet Explorer and cannot be installed separately.

How can I get an address book so my Outlook Express will work correctly?

A:Outlook Express Address Book

I really don't think just adding an address book file will help you because if I am not mistaken, Outlook Express usally creates a new blank address book if it doesn't find one in the default directory. If you want to give it a try anyways, I have attached a blank address book to this message. Just save the attachment and change the file extension from .txt to .wab and then copy it to the directory that normally contains your Outlook Express Address Book. The path will be something similar to what I have typed below. If you can't find the path, just search for the directory called "Address Book" and dump the file into there. What is the exact error message that you are getting?

Windows Easy Transfer is never recommended to transfer Outlook data because it causes things like this. The usual thing it causes is a corrupted mail profile, of which this is a common symptom.
There is a bug in Outlook 2007 which means that you can't remove and re-add the addressbook service.
You need to create a new Mail profile. Do Control Panel-Mail-Show Profiles-Add and create a new profile. Add the existing pst file to it and that should cure the problem.

Is there a way to export AOL's Address book to Outlook? I figured it would be an easy find but I was wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Exporting Aol Address Book to Outlook

The only way I've found is very awkward, indeed, unless you tried a java script. It does not appear that AOL has provided an export, likely for obviously but unfortunate reasons.
This export tip will give you only the email addresses and no other information you might have saved. It can be done with Groups. If you have Individuals not in Groups, first use the Groups THEN the next step:
(Based on a right-handed mouse
AOL 8.0 (or 9.0 BETA)
(1) Click Write as though to write/compose a new email. Leave open.
(2) Click on Address Book icon

Put cursor in Address Book Window.
With Mouse, click Select ALL
(Or while holding Shift Key down,
select individuals and/or groups)
Then click to choose SEND TO
Follow instructions to Send To which places addresses
in the Send To Window of the email being composed.

With Mouse cursor, In the email SEND TO window,
right click to select ALL.
right click to select CUT.
With Mouse cursor, In the email Compose/Write menu,
right click to PASTE.

From AOL Tool Bar:
Click: File
Save As
choose a directory/folder on your harddrive,
and choose a filename (i.e. AOL_AdrBk.HTML) with HTML or TXT extension.

Then save it.

If you use the HTML extension, you can open an Excel Spreadsheet with:
File Open AOL_AdrBk (Excel opens HTML as though it's an XLS file.)

From Excel, you can export to CSV format, or choose a format depending on whichever Excel version you might have.

Tedious? Yeah. But not as tedious as re-typing everything.

I don't keep detailed information on any internet provider (AOL, Yahoo, Comcast, etc., etc.) email address book without having it in a personal database or spreadsheet that will export to popular formats.

There are a couple different ways you can do the above, all are relatively tedious. If you have separate Mail GROUPS, you can do the above with each group OR...
Per GROUP:
In the Address Book, click on a Group, say, RESCUEDOGS.
Click on RESCUEDOGS and the names appear in the bottom window of the address book.
Place mouse cursor in bottom window.
Right click then select SELECT ALL
All names should be HIGHLIGHTED.
Then left double-click. Notepad will come up with
all the selected names inserted.
Then do your File Save As (which will now limit you to TXT).

Good luck.

I would like to save my Outlook address book and IE Favorites on disk, but don't know where they are stored. This would be for purposes of moving them to another computer.

A:Outlook Address Book & IE Favorites

Sure, no problem. In IE6 click on the FILE menu and choose "Import and Export..." This will allow you to export your favorites right to a floppy so have a floppy in your drive. Or you can just save it on your harddrive anywhere you choose and move to any media you'd like. Also, in Outlook Express, click on FILE menu and choose "Export/Address Book" This does the same thing but for your address book. Save it to a floppy or anywhere you want. To install these, just reverse the operation and choose import and point it to your saved files.

search for .pst
it will have all your contacts and all emails
what was the old windows version
you will need to show hidden files and folders
Windows Vista or Windows 7: Drive\users\Username\appdata, where Drive represents the drive that Outlook was installed to and Username represents the user name that Outlook was installed under.

Can anybody help me. i have a new machine and intend using mozilla thunderbird rather than MS outlook.
Is there a way I can copy contacts from old machine and install in Thunderbird?

A:Outlook address book/contacts

Thunderbird can import messages and contacts from Outlook, that's for sure, but I can't find out what format the data must be in for importing. If you export your "Contacts" folder with Outlook's "Import & Export" tool, that will create a PST file which contains all your contact data.

If Thunderbird can import PST files you're good to go. If it can't, your Outlook "Contacts" folder can instead be exported as a 'Comma Separated Values (Windows)' file (CSV) which can be imported into most popular Windows email clients.

Export both formats at same time and I'm sure one of them will be okay for importing into Thunderbird.
I do know it will import Outlook data (I just checked their website) but I've never actually used it to know which file-types it can import.

Hey all..

I am running Win2k with Office XP(upgraded from Office 2000). When I click the address book icon on the menu bar, I have 2 Contact lists listed. The first one(which opens by default) gives an error message saying the file is missing or I don't have permissions to open it(I do, I tried logging in as Admin and logging in as the user). I can click OK and then select the second Contact list, and that opens fine.

I don't see any other wierdness anywhere else, but I would like to get that error message taken care of. Also, when I click Contacts from the side menu bar, that works like it should...no error messages.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

A:Outlook address book dup entries

Go to the top of the page and select the button for Folder List. In the list you will either see multiple Contacts folders listed under your profile, or there is another profile that is corrupted and is not needed. I would suggest making a backup of your .spt file, deleting the suspect contacts folder and everything should be fine. If you delete the wrong contacts folder, just import it again from the saved.pst file.

Just installed Office 2002. In OUTLOOK, all folders were maintained including Contacts.

Two Problems:

1. I get two copies of every email.

2. My address book is blank. I want it to use my Contacts. I tried "address book / tools / options but all three addressing fields are blank, so I can't pick my Contacts list.

(contacts are on my machine - no network involved).

Address Book crashes with the following message"invalid page fault (module unknown) at 000:006c0067.
Explorer version 5.50.4807.1700
I have renamed the book, but it still crashes.

I can get at my list of email addresses through the "TO" button in Outlook/New Mail/ but cannot get at addressbook itself.

I have requested help from MS Support, and the response was to ask for info which I sent, resent, then got NO response.

I opened my address book up and edited it (adding and deleting anyone I wanted/didn't want). I then closed the address book, and went into outlook and clicked on Contacts. It still shows everything I just deleted, and doesn't show anything new.

I was under the impression the Address Book and Contacts were the same thing. Apprarently not! Anyway, I selected all my contacts, and deleted them. Now my contacts are empty, but my address book is full and what I would like to use. How do I get all those "contacts" from my address book into the Contacts folder within Outlook so when I'm composing an email, I can hit on the New email, then to the TO..(to bring up my contacts)

Win 7 and Office pro 2007. After trying to download win 10 from Microsoft?s free online offer, my laptop completely froze and would not boot. Took it to a computer shop who then reinstalled win 7 and new installed win10 on a new 1tb hard drive (partitioned 50/50) as they said the old hd was 20% corrupted. The problem is now I can?t find my IE favorites or my Outlook address book. The shop said that everything was moved over to the new hd but I can?t find them. I?ve heard that ther are a couple of different ways to move OS info: mirror imaging (is this the method Norton Ghost uses?) and file lift over/copying. Is this correct? In any case, help in restoring the files in/to their proper places would be greatly appreciated. Baby steps, please as my computer skills are basically non-existant.

I have been trying for days to exporting my bosses address book from his PalmVII to my microsoft outlook (Office 2000). Does anyone know the secret??????????

A:exporting palmvii address book to outlook

Do you have synchronization software? Do you have the cradle attached to your PC? I would think, however, that you should have him synch palm pilot to HIS contacts, then have him share his contacts folder with you...

One of my elder sons has installed his Nokia Mobile/Cell phone software onto my younger sons PC and its overwritten the younger sons email address book with the address book from the elder sons Mobile/Cell phone.

The younger son cannot find his address book anywhere as it has been overwritten.

The PC has Outlook Express 5.5 with Win2000 Pro, which I don't think has System Restore.

Any Ideas how to get the Address book back if possible, to have peace within our household.

thanks

I just installed Outlook 2007. I have 2 problems. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I can't import my address book from Windows Live, Hotmail or Gmail. I have searched and can find only the opposite (to export). I have exported from Windows Live,Hotmail and Gmail, but they are different and won't work. The other problem is I can't change the stationary. It is grayed out and says no other themes installed. I reinstalled the themes and put in the extras. I have folders named stationary that has files in them. you can click on them and see them. I can't find a way to tell the program where they are. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Clint

I had WinME for several years and while I still had no problem I installed WinXP home so I would have the same system as my wife. Since changing to XP I have been able to share a printer (which I could never get to work using two systems) I have three partitions. I had WinMe on the C: drive, and when I installed WinXP, it went on the E:/ drive. I have no problems and I have the Outlook program working but I have not been able to copy the *.pst file from the C:/ drive to the right place on the E: drive in XP.
I have all my e-mail addresses in the contact folder on outlook but they do not show up in the address book. How do I copy them from the contacts folder to the address book?

Greetings! I have an employee who's telling me that a certain selectable list in his Address Book menu is populated while he's here in the office, but blank when he's away. He's telling me that his "Contacts" selection in the Address Book drop-down (shown in the attached pic) is blank when he isn't here. How can I keep that from happening? He's running W7 with Outlook 2007.

Thanks in Advance!

I recently moved by Outlook pst file from my desktop to a laptop since we ll be on the road the rest of this year Never mind all the dumb things I did but as of now my Contacts are accessible only by clicking the quot contacts quot bar down below the quot mail quot bar and a couple of others on the left half of the Outlook window If I click the little book icon up at the top Outlook complains that it can t open the Contacts folder then gives me a chance to select another folder from a drop-down list that says Address book Contacts Contacts Contacts None of these work They all either can t be opened or contain no information So My Question IS If every Outlook Contacts lost Book Address contacts folder Outlook can list is either gone or empty where are the contacts which show up by pressing the Contacts bar actually located And how do I put them into the Address Book so that when I type in the first few letters of a contact in the quot To quot box it will give me the chance to accept what it pulls up And how do I find out where the empty missing Contacts folders are and get them the hell off the drop-down list Thanx in advance al nbsp
