Nvidia branded APG video card

Q: Nvidia branded APG video card

A simple question guys and gals. I have an infinity for dell dimension 8100 and optiplex gx 400 towers. The boards are similar, vintage from the late 90's. They both use APG NVIDIA brand video cards, typicaly VGA only, although I have seen Svideo, and DVI, and even ANALOG line out connectors. How do I identify the model number of a given card to determine whether it would work in these boards. The NVIDIA part # eludes me. There are any printed #s on the card, both on labels, and in white ink. I do not see any I recognize as in ATI, GE FORCE, ect. I have several APG video cards in my pile and I need to identify them. Swapping cards is a slow way to test. In addition this process produces eveything from NO video to incorrect colors, to noise bars. Any info welcome. A list of compatible cards from N or others would also be welcome.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The best thing I can think is trying to look-up the serial number if there are still stickers on any of them, otherwise you'll have no choice but to swap them in your PC one at a time and see if you can ID them with GPU-Z.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I just had this card installed, and i am now having problems with video's down loaded from the web. The video picture colors are all off, sound is fine. I Am using Windows XP pro. It/videos work intermitantly?? Mostly dont,,, PC Games and still pics are just GREAT. Any ideas on how to fix. I have fiddled with different things but nothing changes the video color quality.

Ah, my sounds not to be a video card problem, but more of a codec issue. make sure your codecs are up to date and if that doesn't work, post your system specs.

Hi Everyone,

I have an NVidia GT520 Graphics Card which doesn't appear to be branded and I would like some advice on which driver to use with it; here is a photo of the card -

I have looked at the NVidia site and there is a GT520 (OEM) card which looks almost identical;

There doesn't appear to be a specific driver link on the webpage (indicated above) so I am thinking that the best driver to download is this one -

As I am installing Windows 7 64 Bit the above driver makes the most sense I think.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Ok I am running 2 dual video cards, both by Nvidia, 9600 GT & 9800 GT.

Do I need to use both CD's to re-install the drivers for Win 7 64?

Or are the drivers already updated with Win 7?

Or do I need to go to Nvidias website and get the latest drivers?

A:Do I still need to use my Nvidia video card CD's?

Got to NVidia's site to get latest drivers for Win 7 x64. Run it and let it install. Use the device manager to see what is going on with each individual card after. Use the device manager to install to one or both if the setup.exe doesn't do so.

Good luck.

Why can't I find where my 3d and open gl settings are? I see everything else, but I can see these. According to the book, they should be there. I've downloaded the newest drivers from nvidia. This is a new card to a newly built pc. 256 mb.

A:FX NVIDIA 5200 Video Card

They should be in Display Properties in Control Panel. Open up Display, then click on Settings, then click on the Advanced Button. Then you should see your settings. If they are not there its becuase the driver is not correctly installed or the AGP Acceleration is turned Off on that Advanced page.

Hi folks Bad storm came through this morning Afterwards when booting pc all i ve gotten was Nvidia Video Card Fried? x resolution with color I ve downloaded and updated the drivers for monitor and the Nvidia GEForce MX video card No help Each time I try to change the display it forces me to restart pc to allow change Previously I Nvidia Video Card Fried? could always see the display change and choose whether I wanted to keep it or not without a restart When I accept change and restart computer hangs and monitor light goes to standby Only way to recover is a ctr-alt-del and enter PC restarts but comes right back to the huge x resolution Machine is also very very slow in everything it does since this morning I tried moving the monitor to the onboard video and rebooting but then it never came on stayed in standby mode Is it possible for me to disable the video card while still plugged into it and be able to revert back to the onboard video just to test the card I haven t had a lot of experience with monitors and video cards I m not even positive they are the problem Any help would be greatly appreciated She s nbsp

A:Nvidia Video Card Fried?

G'day that is certainly a name!
I would suggest removing the power from the machine, then removing the video card and plugging the monitor back into the onboard video socket.
On re-power up it will (with luck) realise the onboard video is required and load the driver for it and produce an image.
You shouldn't need drivers at this point, hopefully you won't need to enter BIOS and make any changes.
See if you can get that up.
(It sounds like the video card may be crippled)
Lightning does not need to strike the prower lines to kill a machine, it is always worthwhile unplugging or fitting a surge protection device. (these work sometimes)
Cheers, qldit.

Anyone know if the mobo/chipset is compatible with ATI Video cards?

A:nVidia Chipset and ATI Video Card

1. please post in the correct forum - audio/video
2. video cards generally are not dependant on mobo chipsets. (there are a few exceptions.) If you have a slot, you should be able to use it with the right drivers. If you have integrated video you will need to turn it off in BIOS.

I'm still learning.....

When I log on computer, screen shows "The ATI control panel
failed to initialize because no ATI driver is installed, or ATI driver is not working properly. The ATI control panel will now exit".

I know that has been discussed here, but this is my question: Isn't ATI a video card? I have Nvidea GeForce FX5500 in my system (XP, 1 G Ram)) yet this error message always appears. When I pull up display adaptors in device mgr, my Nvidea shows, nothing for ATI does.

So, do I need both? I just updated drivers on my video card and direct x due to a game freezing. That didn't help. Then I remembered this error message and wondered if it had something to do with it.

Thanks alot for any help.

A:Do I need Ati drivers if I have Nvidia video card?

You don't need ATI drivers-they are for AMD/ATI graphics cards- uninstall them.
Use Driver Sweeper here:
in preference to "Add and Remove Programs" in the control panel. I would uninstall both the ATI and nVidia drivers and re-install the applicable nVidia driver to ensure you get an uncorrupted install.
The DirectX update should be fine.

You should only have the graphics driver from your graphics card vendor ( the manufacturer) i.e. Gigabyte, MSI, XFX, EVGA etc. If the card is an OEM product then download from here

FX5xxx branded cards (not OEM) may not run with the nVidia Forceware drivers so make sure you use the manufacturers recommended download if available.

i have no idea what to get, how to get them, in what order and would really like it if someone could tell me what i should do (in simple terms), or just explain it all to me.

All of these were related to your video driver/subsystem. If your fan is not working an undervolt may help slightly but I doubt it. Time for a new video card fan/ card.

You can also try re-installing your video driver just in case.

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

I wasn't really sure if I should post this in Windows 7, Internal Hardware or Audio/Video, but I'll try here first. I just installed a Nvidia 8800 GT video card in my Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit pc. When using the latest drivers, I see the Windows splash screen for a bit, then it go black, but the pc continues to load as usual (confirmed by using remote desktop to get into it). If I use any of the older drivers, the pc just hangs at the Windows splash screen. I've searched all over Google for this and found lots of similar problems, but no solutions that have worked for me yet. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

If you are still using this old video card in your Windows XP desktop(like I am in one of mine), the NVIDIA ForceWare 61.77 and 66.93 drivers are the ones that you want to install and use. If you try to install and use the 71.84, 71.89, or newer versions, they will NOT install. I have done some experimenting and have confirmed this.

@Jonad?, welcome to the forum. Your problem is not having UEFI in the motherboard.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  The last cards that didn't require UEFI are the GTX 660/670's.  The power supply unit (PSU) would require upgrading, also.  Most members report that a 300W PSU doesn't work in many instances. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hello, I have pretty strange situation where my workstation will emit constant fan noise with any video cards (I tried Radeon HD 7700, GeForce GTX 750N, fanless Radeon HD 5500) and no noise with NVS 310. Noise does not come from cards themselves though but from one of the fans inside case. Not sure which one. What is puzzling here is when workstation has NVS 310 card there is no noise at all and when any of others there is considerable noise. I have no idea where to look. I have a Dell Optiplex 980 SFF and want to replace the NVidia NVS 420 4 port video card (because I don’t have the adaptor cable and only need one monitor anyway) with a regular video card. (The onboard video does not work because it is an i7 processor).
Does any one know if this DELL part is compatible: Dell PN: XF27T - AMD Radeon HD 5450 512MB PCIe x16 DMS-59 Port Low Profile Video Card.
Thank you in advance

A:Optiplex 980 SFF NVidia NVS 420 video card replacement

dms59 requires a special video cable
What you want is an ASUS EAH5450.
This is why Single Slot Only and less than 9 inches long is required. The ASUS EAH5450 works fine in all dell models EXCEPT usff which has no slots. Even the TOWER has the 1 Slot wide 8.5 inch Long Limit.

You cant use a THICK card. This is why Dell cards are fanless.

I just bought a new game, and when I installed it it gave me an "graphics driver cannot run OpenGL 1.3"

I tried downloading the latest VGA driver from NVIDIA, but when i try to extract it two files do not extract. It gives me a 0x80004005 error code.

Any information on how to fix this extraction problem OR, even better, how to get my video driver to support OpenGL 1.3 would be excellent.

Hey All,

I have an xps 1710 and recently had issues with my video card and nvidia geforce go 7950 gtx. Dell came out with a new card. But no matter what they did and Im now waiting for them to get back to me we couldnt install the drivers. The following msg kept on coming up

"There was a problem with the device, An error occured during the installation of the device"

This morning when I turned on my laptop I got a blue screen with the following statement:

"Driver unloaded without cancelling pending operation, your system has been shut down.

I was able to restart my system.

Any ideas???

A:Cant install nvidia drivers on new video card

I would suggest you run DriverCleaner Pro ( ) and remove all traces of the bad NVidia installs and then defragment and then reboot and then run sfc /scannow.

After that, you can try a fresh NVidia install.

I've installed Win7 (32 bits) in my computer recently. The computer is a little bit old, here are the specs:
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
2GB Ram
160 GB Hdd
NVidia Geforce FX5600 XT

I went to Nvidia's website in order to download the drivers for my graphics card but there are no drivers available for Win7 designed to my card. I've downloaded the latest drivers there (Forceware 96.85, compatible with Vista) and they work. However there are two problems. The first is that I notice some small delays when I'm working normally with the computer, using Aero. The second one is that I can't access nVidia's app that manages the card's options.

Are there any drivers capable to solve these 2 problems?

What's your concern about power and bulky? As long as it fits and works....

I ask because Watts wise, to go less with better card, Radeon HD 7790 is your best bet for AMD card, but if you want very good performance you go 78xx+ series where the watts will start at nearly the same as where you are now.

Card size wise, varies greatly, I have an old 8800 GTS (G92) myself, a bit of a beast... my 7950 fit just fine.

7790 wise here's the 2gig version to snag if you decide to go that way:

A:Upgrading my video card from Nvidia GeForce 6150SE

if you were to follow the game's minimum requirements i would recommend at least a 400w PSU, but it depends on the power supply itself as they are all different. if the card needs auxiliary power then it will most likely tax the PSU too much if you have a lot of other components, but you could always try. the radeon X700 isn't a very demanding card so i wouldn't be surprised if it worked fine with the unit you have. on the other hand, 400-500w power supplies are cheap nowadays and it can only benefit your system if you choose to invest in one, but it's your call. just because you don't need high end stuff doesn't mean a beefier PSU is a bad idea

Hi There!

There's 2 basic causes to your problem.

1. there is something interferring with the video signal as it travels through the monitor cable.

2. Your video card is about to bite the dust.

I would recommend replacing the video card and that will most likely solve the issue!

hmmm did the 32 mb card work properly?
did you uninstall the 32 mb card drivers?
try having your minitor cable linked straight onto the motherboard monitor connector if you have one and i think the reason the picture would not boot from bios is becouse some drivers are still installed.
did you uninstall the fx 5500 drivers before putting the 32 mb card back in.

check if the graphics card uses too utch power and check if the monitor is connected onto the graphics card properly.

the problem you are facing could be due to motherboard related problems or you may have a faulty graphics card or you simply might be installing the graphics card wrong (read the instruction booklet carefully)

Hi Guys,

Im new here so sorry if this message is unclear.

I am working with a confocal miscroscope connected to a PC. Recently the very old graphics card on it blew and I have had a very hard time finding a replacement. I have ordered two direct replacements and each time they have sent a mis-labeled card. From this i gather its very difficult to obtain new nVIDIA Quadro 4 980xgl cards.

I was wondering if there is an alternative card i could use. I think im not bad with computers however my hardware knowledge is lacking. Unfortunatly the comptuer is currently in use (running a 5 hour experiment i do not wish to interup) so i cannot give you the computer hardware details. If this is required I can post later.

It is for a two monitor set up (currently running on only one). If you need any other details, please ask.

Many Thanks for your help

It's not an old connector. It's the new(ish) PCI-E 6-pin power connector, standard to any quality power supply today. And anyways, your card wouldn't propably run with the Dell's crappy low-power crap-quality power supply even if it had a PCI-E 6-pin connector.

right now i have a 9500gt and a 1080p monitor. im thinking of getting this Buy the XFX Radeon HD 5670 1GB DDR5 PCIe, DVI & HDM Bundle at

im looking for something around 100$

my question is how much better is the hd5670 vs the 9500gt and is there something better i could get for the same price. my psu is 450 watts btw

A:Need advice on video card upgrade nvidia 9500gt vs radeon hd 5670

Answering your last question first then the answer is a resounding yes! For $100 you can get a much better card but it will all depend on what power supply you have in your case. Make, model, watts and more importantly how many amps are on the 12v rail.

If you don't know then can you get the make and model from the side of the psu. To do that just take side of computer and look for something that resembles the pic below. Its the white label like the one shown.

The same problem as what I posted in this thread.

Basically, KotOR is not working on my new, better, computer. I believe it's a driver problem, but don't know how to find out. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB, but the game recommends GeForce4 Ti or better (128 MB VRAM). So that's my other assumption as to why it doesn't work.

I can play a few minutes into the game, but then it makes a loud noise and my computer restarts. I thought it was a program called Smart Doctor that came on a CD with my video card, because I uninstalled it and the game let me get a little further into it, but when I went back to playing today, it restarted on me within 1 minute. My file only has 7 minutes in it, and I'm very disappointed.

Can someone help?

A:Solved: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB video card with KotOR

The 6600GT is a much better and newer card then the the GeForce4 line of cards.

Your problem sounds like a heat or power issue.

What are your CPU, mainboard, and video temps?

What is the brand and the wattage of the power supply? Did you remember to plug in the auxilary power connector into the video card?

If your motherboard didn't come with an temp and voltage monitoring software you can try using Speedfan:

it would also help if you posted the complete specs of the computer including the operating system.

Hi, new I'm here and have worked on my computers for many years with success. i have a problem with a new Nvidia MX4000 video card with an Asus P5P800-MX/CHANNEL-UAYGZ motherboard. All works well except there's no video signal until the Windows XP boots up and loads the driver. This means I can't see the Bios setup or dual boot screen on startup. It works fine with the built in video on the motherboard but I'd like to use the dedicated video card. Has anyone had this problem and suggestions to work around it.
Thanks, Don Black.

Like i said, my video card driver was just on default video card So i undated it to the 7950 geforce driver. I restarted and my internet browsers, firefox and ie stopped working. but i can get on aim.

I have disabled the video card driver, and uninstalled my ethernet driver, which is also an nVidia. None of this has changed the problem.

I can still get on aim, but firefox says "connection was reset" when ever i try to view a website

I've tried adaware, but i can't update it cause it wont connect to the internet. and my spybot is just not starting up.

All right so I definitely need some help from the pros. I'm not a very big gamer, the only 3-D game I play is the Sims 2. I am having a laptop built for me with a Intel Pentium M 760 (2 GHz) processor and I need to choose between the standard Intel Extreme Graphics video card or the more expensive Nvidia PCI Express 6600 video card with 128 MB Video Memory. Which do you think would be better and more worth the money for my purposes?

Thanks so much!

I have a dell vostro 1500 that has started getting a horizontal line down the middle of the screen and showing the same info on the top and bottom. The computer also crashes sometimes so quickly the blue screen of death doesn't even show up.

I believe from googling around that I have a bad NVIDIA G8400 video card, part of which Dell won't replace out of warranty since it's not soldered in.

I see in the link instructions on how to replace the video card, so that's what I plan on doing.

Does this seem like the right approach to fix my problem?

I am mostly an internet surfer / quicken user...what kind of inexpensive video card should I buy? Any suggestions on good sites to buy from would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help!

A:Recommend Video Card - Dell Vostro 1500 - NVIDIA G84 Recall Related

Hi Eric,

My Vostro 1500 just died. I've owned it for 1 year and a half. It's out of warranty and it's not included on the list of "affected" models. I can't call to dell right now to hear their (predictable and negative) answer about this.

Have you had any more news about this? Could you get it fixed? Do you know other Vostro 1500 users having the same problem? Any information you can give me would be really useful, as you may have noticed that there aren't many 1500 users reported of having the issue.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

I need an advice for buying a dedicated video card, for my Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF. Curently I have the Intel HD (Intel i3 3240), but I want something more.
Ive found the AMD Radeon HD7470 at a good price, but also the Nvidia Quatro 600 (low profile).
My question: Will Nvidia Quatro 600 work on my system?
The Dell Optiplex SFF has an 240 W power supply. The PCIex16 Slot (BLUE) (Voltage supported 3.3V/12V) has the maximum wattage = 50 W, and the Nvidia Quatro 600 (low profile) has the maximum power consumption = 40 W.
And, if I want to upgrade my CPU to i7 3770 in the future, will the power be enough?

I've started this thread almost a year ago, looking for some answers. No one answered. I have meanwhile upgraded some components, taking the chance ...

- 32 Gb DDR3 1600 (4 x 8 Gb Crucial CT102464BA160B)
- PNY Nvidia Quadro K620
The next things I have in mind: a new CPU (i5 or i7) & another SSD drive (850 PRO this time).

A:T420s Nvidia Graphics Card & Express Card Question...

The T420s with Nvidia GPU has two graphics card that can switch on the fly, if you only want the discrete gpu, just go into your bios menu under graphics there is an option to select discrete. With the Nvidia Optimus (which is what you have), it can switch between Nvidia and Intel GPU depending on your application needs. This will allow you to conserve battery or power. Expresscard slot 34 mm slot is occupied by the card reader that you ordered. What you are talking about within the ram slot cover, is the mPCIe slot, which can be occupied by a mSATA drive.
