Script to set size of font, DPI, and change only text size

Q: Script to set size of font, DPI, and change only text size

Windows 10.

I am having much fun grappling with my displays. I say grapple because I CANNOT see the text!

I have a laptop, with a display that has up to 2048x resolution and an external monitor that does 1920x. I have tried to keep both set the same resolution so the mouse will easily go back and fort.

If I bump one setting, others seem to change. Like after an update too!

I need a script, to set, then set again, and again, the
display settings,
the custom scaling level, and
the "change only text size".

Keeping the monitor placement geometry the same would be great for me too.

Oh for a cross reference on Outlook 2013 to the system setting. I keep manipulating the view settings there too.

Probably to get started I could use a "settings display" script.

Help, please

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to know how I can change the desktop text size, and font type from a fresh reload of XP Pro?

I assume that any text size change would also go to IE, as the text size is the same on my desktop as it is while using IE.

Does anyone know what the default settings are for text size, and name of font type for XP Pro?

You could try sfc & dism & sfc again.

You could right click this .bat file after downloading it & run as administrator---

It will run them for you.
You can leave it run in the background.
It might take 2 or 3 hours to finish.

On two laptops, one has horizontal width of 12.25" screen with resolution 1366x768; the other has horizontal width of 15.125" screen with resolution 1900x1080.

So 12.25" screen pixel width is 12.25/1366; 15.125" screen pixel width is 15.125/1900. Pixel width difference is about 12.7%.

On IE 8/9, majority of texts on 12.25" screen have font size 11 while same texts on 15.125" screen have font size 8 or smaller (font style appears to be Arial). The font size difference now is about 37.5%. Why is that?

The Page Zoom setting is 100% and Page Text Size is Medium on both systems.

Every time I boot up my computer I never know what size the Font and Icons on the desktop is going to be.. It maybe tiny and barely readable or huge giant text and icons. The only thing that I can do is restart the computer until a suitable text size comes up ( often multiple times). My resolution is 1920 X 1080. My current text is set at 150%. What can I do to stable my computer in terms of the font size??

I let my dad use my laptop for the week as I was away at a Christian singing camp, and when I came back, he told me he accidentally pressed some button that caused the text on google searches to be abnormally large and the text on other websites i.e. to be too small, and well I notice this as well, but it's only on firefox. I suffer no such issues on other browsers, nor does it affect my computer, so I consider this isolated to just firefox itself, and I was wondering how I would go about fixing this.

All my dad said was he accidentally pressed a key on my keyboard and it messed it all up. He doesn't know enough about computers to know what he could've pressed.

Hi, just swiched to windows7 loving it soo far but just 1 tiny thing is bit annoying,

atm i have just a crap 17" (not WS) TFT, and win7 only displays it properly on its native res, 1280x1024 now this makes everything way too small, so DPI change to %125 fixed that, and made internet explorer look fine too, however other applications like.. mirc, ftp clients etc all just appear to be way to small, i can increase font size in these apps but it looks awfull!
is there anyway to change zoom or size or something in these apps without editing the font size? if not plz recommend me a good size of TFT that is widescreen and displays all things perfectly

Though this is actually a Firefox related question, I post it here because it's concerned with code examples that are posted here.

Hi there
Any "tinkerers" or customisation gurus out there.

On a laptop even with a decent size screen is there any way to increase the font size of text of applications installed via "classic windows install" such as Office / photoshop etc. (Not Metro apps).

On those smaller but absolutely stunning "Ultrabooks" the text becomes quite hard to read too - if you increase the font size "globally" in windows then you have problems with some screens not fitting properly - so I just want to increase the text within the tiles.

enc magnified screenshot of a typical tile -- even here the text is relatively small .

Anybody out there !!

A:Anybody - increase font size of text in tiles of std apps office etc

These are the keys you have to play with

I didn't have a clue where to put this, so please bear with me.
When using Firefox and maybe even in IE, I've observed that
many fonts are a light grey color making it very hard to read.

I have gone into the tools of Firefox and unchecked the
"allow pages to choose their own colors" and that does
give black fonts, but at the cost of losing other colors
on a web page.

How can I get rid of these light grey colored fonts and use
black fonts when on the internet while still maintaining colors ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

In WinXP, there was an option in the display settings where I could increase the font DPI. This ONLY increased the windows program fonts and affected little else. So the text under the icons was small, as was the text in various dialog boxes. However, it would have NO effect whatsoever on web pages. Images were unchanged, fonts were unchanged.

Is this possible in Windows 7? I want to see web pages at their original resolution and change them individually if I want to.

Hey all

I have my lappie jacked into a 37inch TV, it works great for gaming and watching movies and all that good stuff. But when it actually comes to reading the texts on screen it starts to become a strain on the eyes. I would like to be able to max out my resolution, that way I feel like I have more room on the screen as compared to having a lower reso, but in the case that I do use the max reso all of the texts on screen (such as desktop icon names) become very small and hard to read. Now I know there is an option to make the font size bigger, but when I do mess around with that setting to make the font size bigger it just returns everything to a lower state of resolution. So any way to make the font size bigger without affecting the resolution? Thanks for any input on this!

I have a HP 500 Slate that I recently changed the ssd drive from 64gb to 128gb. The tablet ran faster and smoother. I was browsing the web the other day and I decided to change the font size in IE9. There did not appear to be a problem as I continued to surf the web. Today after starting up the computer and IE9, the computer locked up completely. There is a cont-alt-del button and that would not even work. After running chkdsk and fixing a few areas, I restarted the computer and IE9 and locked again. The computer ran fine as long as I did not start IE9. So I reset IE9 and all is well. It's just seems strange that just changing font size would cause the lockup. Virus scans and Malwarebytes found nothing.

A:IE9 locks up computer after change in font size

That sounds like a problem in IE 9 itself. During the beta stage and shortly after 9 was released I found myself downloading and reinstalling IE 9 to see any problems corrected.

The solution is not as easy since you will need a second browser installed in order to uninstall the present IE 9 upgrade over if you did upgrade over 8. Once IE is totally removed you proceed with the installation of the downloaded copy for a fresh go at 9.

By changing font size I assume that raising the view setting up from 100% to say 125% which one problem here not having the Favorites bar open and moved over to the left side is how to save the 125% setting. In IE 8 if IE was closed and a new window opened it would remember the 125% setting without the Favorites open.

Lately the only thing noticed would be IE 9 stalling and having to refresh itself or simply closed. Your problem could also be update related. A fresh install from a download will bring you back to Square #1 however where prompts for IE updates will be seen for those already presently on.

To change the default font in WordPad, you would have to change the system configuration.
This is a quick way to change the font before you type anything in Wordpad. When you open WordPad, double click in the empty text area and you should see a thick selection bar instead of the thin cursor bar. This selects all, then go to the font size and change it to any size you want. Your font size should remain at the chosen setting for the entire time that you are working on the file.

Greetings -
Since CHKDSK cannot scan the system partition (and other partitions under certain circumstances) from within Windows, you're given the option to run it at the next boot. All good. The font/display size used by CHKDSK under these circumstances prevents you from viewing all the data at once, however.
This isn't a huge issue, and certainly not a functional one. The first two lines are the ones usually lopped off/scrolled out of view. It *would* be convenient to see those lines though, particularly which drive is being scanned. I often run CHKDSK overnight, and can't tell from the display which drive it's working on.
Any ideas how to make the font smaller or the display area larger? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A:Change font size in Control Panel folder

Here are ALL my hints for changing font size. Hopefully, at least one of them will work in your Control Panel.

1. This is the main setting tool for setting font sizes. Right-click on the Desktop and go to Personalize, Window Color and Appearance. Click on Advanced, and in the drop-down menu, at the very bottom, select Window. This is the setting that controls the Control Panel, but unfortunately, it does not give us an option to change the font size. But try some of the others to see if you can get the font size changed there.

2. DPI - Right click on Desktop, Personalize, On Personalization Page, go to left column to: Adjust Font size – DPI, DPI Scaling: Click on Large scale (120 DPI), and click Apply.

3. At the lower right hand corner of every IE web page, there’s a Zoom control that lets you increase the size of every web page, and it stays at that Zoom setting for every page.

4. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, General, Accessibility, Select Ignore font styles specified on web pages, check boxes and click OK, then Apply, then OK.

5. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, uncheck all three:
Reset text size to Medium for new windows and tabs, and
Reset text size to Medium while Zooming, and
Reset Zoom level to 100% for new windows and tabs

6. Open Internet Explorer, click the Page button, click Text Size, and then select the size you want i.e. Large (Largest may be too large).

7. Ease of Access Center – Go to: Control Panel, and Explore all settings. Under the following heading, Make things on the screen larger, select: Change the size of text + icons. This takes you to the dpi settings screen.

8. If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, use command/ctrl + your scroll on a web page to increase the font size.

9. Magnifier – For those instances when you need to magnify a certain portion of the screen - go to Start, in the Search pane, type in "magnifier" + click the program at the top. (To read more about Magnifier go to Start, click "Help & Support" on the right hand side, type in "magnifier.") Magnifier is actually located at: Start, All Programs, Accessories, Ease of Access, Magnifier.

(Open Internet Explorer, Internet Options, Appearance, Fonts, How to ignore present fonts - The notes refer you to numbers 3, 5, 6 and 8).

To increase font size permanently in FireFox: go to Tools, Options, Content, and on that screen set the new default text size that you wish. Then, click Advanced and there are additional default text size settings. Plus, in the box that says "Minimum text size" select None, and down below, UNcheck the box that says "allow pages to choose their own fonts instead of my selections above."
