Can't remove taskbar touch keyboard icon

Q: Can't remove taskbar touch keyboard icon

I just got a laptop that has a touch keyboard which I never plan to use. I have Start8 running and I use only the desktop UI. I go to task bar properties/toolbars and uncheck the touch keyboard apply and OK, and the icon disappears as it should. But when I restart it has returned. Is there a way to get rid of it.

Preferred Solution: Can't remove taskbar touch keyboard icon

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On the topic of Windows 8 customization, is there a way to permanently remove the Touch Keyboard toolbar from taskbar?

I've tried disabling the service in Control Panel > Services then removing the Touch Keyboard toolbar via right click on task bar but after shut-down/restart the toolbar still comes back (it's just annoying and takes up valuable task bar space).

Thanks again,

Thanks Brink, didn't think I needed to create another thread but come to think off it Windows 8 is still very new and others may have the same problem.

A:Permanently remove Touch Keyboard toolbar from taskbar?

search 'Mouse'
and in the last tab you might have something like this:

Make sure "Remove tray icon from taskbar" is checked.

Although yours might be different, since it varies between touch mouse models I think.

I have recently updated to 8.1 update 1 and noticed that there is a new icon (next to the time) in the taskbar to choose either the US or UK layout of the keyboard.
I have chosen the UK layout and wish to now remove this from the taskbar.

Is it possible to remove it from the taskbar?

A:US/UK keyboard icon in taskbar - How to remove

If you remove US as a language option for the keyboard layout the icon will disappear , it's only there as a way to choose between languages installed if more than one is available.

Hi, I have a kiosk PC that is looking pretty good however I have two outstanding issues.
The users can still right click on applications on the taskbar and receive a context menu even though I've disabled the context menu in the group policy editor.
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar - Enabled
And I can't figure out how to remove the "show desktop" icon in the systems notification tray.
Thanks in advance for any help

A:Windows 7 Restricted User - Remove Right click on taskbar icons; Remove show desktop icon

Hello Megan,

Hope you're doing fine.

Disabling context menu from application on the taskbar
Please note the task bar context menu for any application for windows 7 is sub-divided into two sections :

   a. Jumplist(to access recently opened files)
   b. Creating a new instance of the application, Pin/Unpin, Close window

We can only disable the Jump List of the Taskbar context menu but not the "new instance creation, Pin/Unpin, close window"

Please follow the steps below to disable jump list:
1. Right-click on the Taskbar and then select Properties.
2. Click on the Start Menu tab and uncheck "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar".
3. Click OK.

Disabling Show Desktop from the system tray
Regarding the requirement of disabling the "Show Desktop" button alltogether from the System tray, this is by design.

There are no ways to remove it. All we can do is to disable aero peek at Taskbar properties by right clicking and uncheck the option "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop".
There's a third party software which addresses this sopecific purpose but I'm not pretty sure if this works perfectly for Windows 7 SP1 as well. Please refer to the link below.

Hey group,
Haven't been on here in ages, but I need a good source for an answer. About a month ago, I was going to eject a flash drive and when I went to click on the icon, it wasn't there. I went into the options where you tell Windows what icons to show and when - and it was set right - to show the icon and notifications.
I have 2 external drives and use flash drives constantly. I'm really afraid of losing some data if I can't get that icon back.
Anybody know how to restore all default icons for the task bar?
Thanks for any help.

Hello Wolfgang,

If you mean the Safely remove icon in the system tray, see if plugging in a USB flash drive will trigger the Safely remove icon to display in the system tray. Afterwards, you may be able to set it to not be hidden in the Notification Area Icons settings.

I just want to ask a simple question regarding PC taskbar.

When I start a program, its icon will show at the taskbar, for example I play LoL, I will have a LoL Icon on my taskbar to show that this program is running.

Now my question is, how to I hide this icon (or any icon in my case) so that it will not show itself on the taskbar? That I could just use Alt tab to get back to it.

Thank you.

I'm using windows 7, and the program is running, so you can't unpin it.

Stick in a USB, then click the little arrow that shows the hidden icons. Drag the hidden icon you want displayed onto the system tray. It should keep showing it from then on.

I use third party software to update and do other system functions so I don't need the Action Center icon nex to the clock, how do I get rid of it?

A:Remove the "action center" icon from the taskbar area near the clock?

The notification area is located on the right side of the taskbar by default, and it contains program icons that provide status and notifications about things like incoming e‑mail, updates, and network connectivity. When you install a new program, you can sometimes add an icon for that program to the notification area.

You can expand the notification area to view hidden icons

New computers often come with icons already in the notification area, and some programs automatically add an icon to the notification area during installation. You can change which icons and notifications appear in the notification area, and for certain special icons (called system icons), you can choose whether they show up at all.

You can change the order of the icons in the notification area, and the order of hidden icons, by dragging them to the position you want.

To remove or hide an icon from the notification area
Click the icon in the notification area and then drag it toward the desktop.

A couple of weeks ago, I installed the software for a HP DeskJet 5940 photo printer that I purchased. Afterwards, a "Safely remove hardware" icon appeared in the taskbar.

None of the startup entries for the new printer are running in the background, so I don't know how to get rid of it.

I've tried following these instructions:

1. Right-click within the notification area, and then click Properties.

2. On the Taskbar tab, click Customize.

3. Select Safely remove hardware, and in the Behavior column, click Always hide.

but when I right-click on the icon, the only thing that appears is "Safely remove hardware".

I've gone into the taskbar properties and tried to do it that way, but it wants to hide all inactive icons, which is not what I want to do.

Any suggestions?

Wish I had a better title, but I wasn't sure how to word this.

Basically what's happening is I have 2 instances of Firefox (different versions and different folder locations) and one of the instances is not opening where it's icon location is.

Example Screenshot:
As you can see. The far left instance does not want to open where it's icon location is.
The far right version always does it.
Even if I unpin the currently working instance (blue/orange icon) to only house 1 firefox instance (grey/black), the grey/black instance will still not open like the blue/orange instance current does (in it's own icon).
Hopefully this isn't confusing for anyone. I searched for a few terms to see if anyone had this problem and nothing came up, maybe I wasn't wording my searches correctly.

Hopefully someone can give some insights.

So I bought a s****y new Windows 10 tablet with all kinds of bells and whistles. My only problem is that I apparently type too fast for the on screen keyboard.
When you hold a letter, it comes up with some obscure charcters that nobody will ever realistically use, myself as a prime example. When you flick a letter, the same happens which is a pain in the arse when typing at speed because I end up with loads of ?s and brē?d in my messages. Is there anyway I can disable this behaviour, so that holding/flicking a letter doesn't do anything? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: apparently the word s w a n k y needs to be censored? (seperated out letters so that it wont censor it again)

When in the standard notebook mode, my R13 displays an active touch keyboard icon in the toolbar.  This is OK.  However when I change to the pad mode, the touch keyboard icon is no longer displayed. How can I enable the touch keyboard in the pad mode?  I note others have posted similar questions relating to tent mode etc and the replies make sense - you wouldn't need a keyboard in tent mode, but the keyboard should be available in pad mode

Put to mouse pointer in an unused part of the tray and right click (or hold finger on display). Near the top mine shows "Show touch keyboard button". Select this and your button should be at the right end of the tray.

This is kind of a strange problem, First off, this is the laptop I have

There are touch controls at the top for sound (mute/unmute), volume, play fast forward etc, and a control to turn wifi on or off. The problem is these buttons are working but normally the mute/unmute button turns red when muted and white when unmuted and the wifi turns blue when on and red when off, they are both staying red all the time even when wifi is on and volume is not muted. Any idea on how i could go about fixing this?

Hi Payners, and welcome to TSF.

Do an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus to make sure you don?t have any viruses/trojans/worms.

Then download HiJackThis and unzip it to its own folder. Run a scan and save the log file. Then post the whole log file here.

My laptop (Acer) has virtually been trouble free since I got it, at least until now. Yesterday when I was going to use the laptop, which was powerd off at home, the touch pad pointer didn't move and none of the keyboard buttons had any effect. I restarted using the power button (which incidentally is the only button working), the computer rebooted with the log in screen coming up as before and again, nothing worked.

I have tried a USB mouse and that had no effect either. I've restarted many times and it's always the same, I can't even access the bios because there is no response to F2 during bootup. I really need to retrieve some of my files, any help is greatly appreciated and welcome. Thank you!!

Both devices have a yellow exclamation point and error code 24 in details (device not present or not working). win10 version sucks.

pressing touch keyboard icon on taskbar with pin on win1- will launch the handwriting panel. i rarely ever actually want that, i just use the pen because it's easier to use that than fat thumbs. back on windows 8, the normal touch keyboard would still load when you pressed touch keyboard icon on taskbar with pen. i hate the win10 'thumb keyboard', the second view where the letters are split off to each side. on win8 this had numbers in the middle, making entering passwords which both letters and jnumbers in them easy, on win10 the middle part where numbers used to be is a gigantic hole. 4

I have to manually select it from the task bar each time when I use it as a tablet

Is there a way round this? Thanks

A:Make touch keyboard automatically appear?

Hello Marty,

By default, the on-screen or touch keyboard will only appear automatically when you tap in a text field in a modern UI screen or modern app.

They don't automatically appear if you’re using a desktop app. Instead, you need to tap or click the Touch keyboard icon on the right side of the taskbar.

You won't find driver properties there.

Right click start and select device manager, then go to your KB and Mouse items, right click and select properties, but I've looked at mine for my laptop, and there is no power management tab there.

Are you sure it may not be asking you to check a BIOS setting for power management to allow KB/mse to wake it?

By default KB /mse should wake it with no further action.

List your laptop make, model, screenshot of device manager with what's listed for KB and mse.

The way that Microsoft setup Kiosk mode is unusable. When a customer comes into our store and uses a browser restricted to only use the available links on the page (Kiosk mode) expecting them to know what key strokes they  need to use to go forward
and backwards in the browser is unreasonable. The other problem is that we deploy touch screens with NO keyboards. Does anyone know how to use Kiosk mode but still have the navigation keys available for the users to select. The only other way I can think of
doing this is to go to a totally different browser. To expect in this day and age, with the usage of touch screens, to still require a keyboard for navigation in kiosk mode is just silly. Now that I have vented any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought a Macbook Pro 7.1 and ran BootCamp 3.0 to partition and install Windows 7 home Premium. Then, I updated using Apple Software Update to update to BootCamp 3.1. When I boot my Windows 7 neither the trackpad, audio or keyboard function properly. I tried to get the "Windows Support software" downloaded to a DVD and then a USB that has been formatted to MS-DOS(FAT), but it either does not burn to the disc or says I can't copy to the USB.
Please help me!

Thanks a lot if you can fix this.

A:Wireless mouse lag and laptop keyboard and touch pad lag

Can't anyone help me?

Here's a little update.
The lag with the wireless mouse is gone, but the lag with everything else is still there.
I had to repair my windows install because I was randomly getting an error at start up saying that windows couldn't start because the ntoskrnl.exe file was missing or corrupted. Then it would only come up with a screen asking if I wanted to start safe mode, start windows normally, etc.
It came up with the ntoskrnl.exe error came up again after the repair, but it can start up now.
Please, someone help.

For some reason, I cannot get the backlit keyboard to work on my new X1 Carbon Touch.  It lights up upon powering up and then will not turn on no matter how many times I hit the space bar.  I don't see an option to enable/disable anywhere either.  Am I missing a driver?  Thanks in advance.

A:X1 Carbon Touch Backlit keyboard not working

Hi, architect7
Be sure to hold the Fn key while pressing the Spacebar to turn on the backlit keyboard. If you have already tried this to no avail, then I would recommend checking some BIOS settings. To enter BIOS, reboot the machine. When it is powering back up and you see the Lenovo splash screen, tap the Enter key repeatedly. A menu should appear. When it does, press F1 to enter BIOS. Once here, navigate to Config ? Keyboard/Mouse and check the settings of Fn and Ctrl Key swap and Fn Key Lock. For purposes of this test, make sure they are both set to Disabled. Once done, press F10 to save and exit. The machine should now boot normally. Log in to Windows and try to activate the backlight again and see if that works.
Best of luck,

TECRA R940: I have been having problems with my the laptop's touch pad and keyboard.

The touch pad disables and enables itself erratically (usually when typing) and several keys on the keyboard either don't work or work incorrectly (e.g. pushing the T key enables the ALT keys and a T cannot be typed and pushing the 5 key results in 05 being typed).

The catalyst for these issues seems to be related to automatic Windows Updates. I noticed these issues began after an Automatic Windows Update on 19/12/2014 entitled "Critical update".

Now, when I uninstall the most recent Windows Security Update from Microsoft, the keyboard problems are fixed (except for the hyphen key, which doesn't work for some reason).

However, the touch pad problem remains, so using a wireless mouse is now a must.

Should I unistall and reinstall a new driver for the keyboard and touch pad?

The keyboard driver cannot be updated or installed because it?s already part of the Windows system.
But from my point of few you should test the keyboard functionality using the external USB keyboard.

In case the external USB keyboard would work properly, the issue isn?t related to the system update but to the internal keyboard malfunction? this would require keyboard replacement.

The touchpad driver should be available on the Toshiba EU driver page. There you can find the Alps Electric as well as the Synaptics touchpad driver.
