Download installation files deleted after downloading ISO

Q: Download installation files deleted after downloading ISO

I had the Windows 10 install files in $WINDOWS.~BT and $Windows.~WS totalling >5GB. A few days ago I decided to also download the Windows 10 ISO.

I've now found that the 5GB+ installation files have been deleted.

I'd like to have both options regarding the upgrade and so would like to re-download the installation files. How do I get them re-downloaded?

If I click the Get Windows 10 icon the only option is Upgrade Now, not what I want - unless that will initiate a download and then give me the option of not starting the actual upgrade.

Hope this makes sense.

Preferred Solution: Download installation files deleted after downloading ISO

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Download installation files deleted after downloading ISO

I know you want to have both options, but it really is not necessary. You have the ISO file. That's more than enough.

As to the disappearance of $Windows.~BT and WS....................
Did you do any disk cleanup using the built-in Disk Cleanup or using Ccleaner ?
Did you recall you selected to delete the "Previous installation file " in order to delete windows.old ?
I know that happened to me when I used Ccleaner and selected that option under Advanced heading.

Hello I have file IE11, have downloading deleted when *.tif been files. moved This or might a problem IE11, This file might have been moved or deleted when downloading *.tif files. with IE when downloading tif files from an intranet server nbsp When I click the link to download one of these files it opens sometimes and fails other times nbsp I can try to download the same file times in a row and it may fail times and open the other times nbsp All other file types pdf docx etc download fine Now the odd thing is that the file I am trying to open is a tif but IE11, This file might have been moved or deleted when downloading *.tif files. IE will say that tiff yes extra 'f' has been moved or deleted nbsp If I close IE and reopen it and then view downloads it now says TIF all caps has been moved or deleted nbsp I believe that there is something in IE that is trying to download tiff files instead of tif so it can not find the file and gives me the error nbsp The only odd thing is that it works some of the time This worked fine on IE and IE never had IE but we recently upgraded to IE and now it is exhibiting this issue nbsp If I use Google Chrome it works fine but we rely on IE for a lot of inhouse applications so other browsers are not an option nbsp I am at a loss and looking for any insight nbsp Thank you

Hi guys,

I'm running Win Vista 32bit Home Premium OS and everything used to be fine. Today I tried to download some files, it all went good, but when the downlaod was finished, the file dissapeared in front of my eyes.

ANY downloads get auto-deleted as soon as they are downloaded. I tried downloading from different servers, using different browsers -problem remains.

I can't download anything. Including no trojan scanner to test my PC. I got AVG, but all it gets is a few tracking cookies.
Might this be an evil virus ?

Anyone had similar thing or know what can I do?

Please help?

Hi I deleted softwaredistrubution/download deleted files in I all the I deleted files in softwaredistrubution/download contents from the C Windows SoftwareDistribution Download folder after I got daily failed updates for Windows that I never asked for at the recommendation of my computer store Then I read about the possibility of this causing problems with synchronization of installed updates and history and I restored the files from my trashcan but I'm still facing issues Svchost exe the one with windowsupdate services is hogging one of my processors for a few minutes more every day when checking for updates I turned off automatic updates just checking and doing MSE definition updates the latter now takes more than an hour after it already says it's complete in MSE and has been steadily increasing ever since I deleted files from the download folder As my nr of updates increases especially MSE definition updates it seems to have synchronization issues with what's listed in my history of updates with what's in that folder I think I also deleted folders named BT and BS that had windows stuff in it but I don't think this is causing any problems I read on another forum about the download folder that It's where windows update downloads and backups are stored if they have all been installed and your computer is running in a stable condition it is safe to delete everything in that folder But DO NOT delete the folder it'self if you do clean out that folder then also navigate to C gt Windows gt SoftwareDistribution gt DataStore delete everything in the DataStore folder BUT DO NOT DELETE THE LOGS FOLDER open the Logs folder and delete everything in there You will have to shut down windows updates then restart the computer so you can delete everything turning windows updates back on after I have not shut down the winupdate agent service the st time I deleted the contents of this folder I think I either used safe mode or waited until no updates where happening and had no problems deleting the content of that download folder with administrator rights without having to disable the service I did delete the contents again today after disabling the servive then restarting the service again and running regular windows updates hoping that that might fix the issue Seeing that after running those updates svchost exe was busy again for about minutes after required restart before restart the trustedinstaller exe stays at max processor usage for processor out of I guess or maybe it's just maxed at even when windows updater already says to restart my system I just wait a couple minutes but it stays busy so I restart no further errors except trustedinstaller continues at for a while minutes then svchost exe starts for way more minutes I am doubtful that the next MSE definitions updates will be much better checking for windows update has similar results without even installing updates hence it seems clearly update history related to me Since I also didn't do the above deleting of the contents of the datastore folder or the logs perhaps that might be a less invasive repair option for me rather than option in this thread that resets my whole history and may cause other problems again Can anyone tell me what the above exactly does in comparison to the bat file under option here and how you think this may affect my situation if I follow the procedure above rather than this bat file first I don't really want to give up my history list so I can at least show my computer store what happened also with the daily windows update failures since everything is brand new on my pc new HDD with new Windows didn't even get to enjoy if for more than a couple of months until the Windows stuff started The first time I deleted the contents of the download folder I may or may not have deleted an quot install quot folder in there as well I certainly did today it's still in my trash made today around the same time MSE definition updates was hogging my svchost exe I guess after ... Ok so my brother and I share a computer and he uses his own drive on my computer and decided to delete everything on that drive file by file. I use the main drive on the computer but he must of deleted something very important on that drive because now every time I try to install certain programs just doesn't work.
For example when I try to download Steam it says another installation is running.
Also "Error1336 there was an error creating a temporary file that is needed to complete this installation"
I have been googling this problem for months but I couldn't find a good solution. any help is greatly appreciated.

A:deleted program called Zoom downloader, now cant download files.

If you have a Restore Point from before from before you deleted the files, you can try restoring it.
When you list your Restore Points, you can "Scan for affected programs" to see if zoomdownloader is listed.

You can also read through this tutorial by Brink for more ideas that might help.

This is most likely a ZeroAccess Rootkit. If you cannot do this on that PC try running DDS (in the Guide) from a Flash Drive. If you still cannot run DDS, then just open the new topic (Guide, step 7) with the original question. Mention you cannot run DDS.Title your post Probable Zero Access. Please follow this Preparation Guide and post in a new topic.Let me know if all went well.

Thanks

A:Downloading Win 8 installation iso

Hello Vincenzo,

Unfortunately, you can't specify which one you wanted. Instead you'll need to redownload the Windows8-Setup.exe file on a 64-bit PC to be able to get a 64-bit ISO.

I am using XP home and not sure what to do when I have installed something. It tells you to exit all open windows - what does that cover.

I have Avast antivirus, Zonealarm, microsft antispyware, spybot S&D, Spyware blaster and Kodak running - do I have to exit all of these (surely I will leave myself unprotected). I have just been closing a few of them down but would really like to know the correct thing to do = do I also have to come off the internet?

A:Installation after downloading

In general, "Close all open windows' refers to items that are actually open on the screen or things running in the menu bar. It does NOT refer to things you see in the systray (system notification area - generally lower right).

You should NEVER have to disable your antivirus or firewall to download or install an application. You *may* have to tell your AV and/or anti-malware apps to allow the installation, as they may be watching for and notifying you of this type of activity.

Hi,

When i try to download a file from download.com with Star Downloader or any number of other download managers the software downloads the URL or link instead of the actual software file.

I can download the file with IE's download software but it times out when downloading large files (I am on dialup).

It seems like I always have trouble downloading from download.com--but somehow--filehippo seems to work (I can't figure out why this happens)

Can anybody offer any advice as to what I am doing wrong and are there any other good sites to download trail software from?

Thanks in advance for any help,

A:Downloading updates do not download ?

It's kind of the luck of the draw. If you hit a Microsoft server at the right time it will download faster. If you hit the Microsoft server at a busy time it could take many hours.

While it's Downloading (Not Installing) updates you can reboot and try again. You might have better luck.

Hi all I'm struggling with IE -- don't really like what I've seen so far needs a registry fix to enable menu bars which IMO is a bit of b s since when this is rolled out to users I'm sure most companies won't let users run registry changing programs or scripts and users especially if they are coming location - download IE9 can't when change downloading from XP want menus on their explorer and IE programs Downloading programs doesn't give a prompt as to where you want to save data SAVE AS -- it seems to always go in C downloads etc Again some companies on company laptops lock out volume C and allow users to only create data on a quot D quot partition Display language on IE still IE9 - when downloading can't change download location very limited as of yet Nr -- download location prompt is a MUST IMO -- it might be easy but I can't find out how to do it I did see some sort of post saying this IE9 - when downloading can't change download location wasn't possible -- if this is true then IE is a NO GO According IE9 - when downloading can't change download location to a microsoft forum post this option is not available Seems quite rudimentary but they removed this capability The best you can do is change the Default Location to somewhere you'll easily get to and move files around That's not an option for me I'm afraid --- that's a SHOW STOPPER Cheers jimbo

Nr 2 -- download location prompt is a MUST IMO -- it might be easy but I can't find out how to do it.

I did see some sort of post saying this wasn't possible -- if this is true then IE9 is a NO GO.

Jimbo:

I set the download location on ie9 by clicking on the tools option on the right side of the menu bar. Select View downloads, at the bottom left of the screen then select Options, then you can browse the directory where you wish all of your downloads to be placed. Of course I turn on the menu bars so that tools is available.

Works for me

I have approximately 3 end users who receive the pop up window when downloading. The issue is, nothing happens when they click any of the options.  "Open" and "Save" simply get rid of the prompt, and "Save As" opens a dialog
box to browse to a spot to save, but it does not save.  It isn't a Windows group or a group policy otherwise we'd have more than a handful of users with the issue. Firefox is an alright workaround but we use IE11 in our environment so it's not
a permanent option.
How do I rid my users of this pop-up and have them always receive the orange ribbon at the bottom of their screen?

I have windows vista since 2006.Never happened but now i m gtting a message the file contains a virus and is deleted for all kinds of files and in all kinds of browsers.even mozilla, opera, IE, chrome.I had AVG earlier but after reading some articles I even removed it.But still The problem is there. There is no virus for sure but even though this message comes for all kinds of downloads. The files gets downloaded but thereafter it gets immediately deleted. It cant be that all files contain virus. But even safe files get deleted. There is something in the windows command which does this I think. But I am not an expert so I cant find.Any one having removed such problem? Please reply fast.

A:download contains a virus and is deleted

The Windows Operating system cannot detect any viruses, if it could, there would be no need for an Anti-Virus software.
What are you downloading? If you are downloading Keygens to pirated software, it would be software that is not harmful to your computer, but has been tagged as a virus, pre se, even though it is not, to keep you from installing it, so it quarantines it or deletes it.
If you want to take the risk, you can disable your Anti-Virus software when you download, and if you keep the downloaded file in a Zip archive folder it will not get deleted by your AV software when you turn it back on.

Hello,
I was trying to install windows XP home edition in my custom build desktop. Every time I tried to format my hard drive and install windows its coming back with not copying so many files from windows setup. Sometimes its copying the files when I pressed enter but sometimes I had to press esc to skip the file. I tried reformatting and every time it ended up in not copying some different files. These are the steps I have done so far
1) I replaced my optical drive with a brand new cd drive to make sure its reading the disc properly
2) I checked hard disk in BIOS hard drive test and its came back with no errors in it
3) I tried with 3 different windows installation disc to eliminate errors due to scratches on cd surface.

Could anybody please tell me what else I can do to complete my installation properly. Thanks in advance

Hello Abe, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but this is a perfect example of why you should always back up anything that you do not want to lose first to be safe.

I hope Recuva may be able to recover your files for you.

Hello,

I got another SSD for my system, win7x64 professional, plugged it in as master and made a fresh new install on it and therefore a new mbr was created during installation.

Now I need to access the working OS I have installed on the older SSD and used as a main drive before.

How to make the current bootloader know that there is another windows 7 installation on a different drive that I would like to be able choose to boot in at startup?

Thank you very much for your time.

A:Accessing windows installation after MBR was deleted

hmm... I actually believe if you run a startup repair it might find the other copy for you and add it to the bootmgr.

Not 100% on that but it shouldn't hurt anything either.
Startup Repair

Most the other methods I know involve using BCDedit and are pretty hard if you aren't familiar with using it.

Hi all,
While manually uninstalling a certain game from my Laptop running on
Windows Vista, I accidentally deleted some registry keys unrelated to
the game. I don't remember which ones.
I now see the following problem.
Whenever I try downloading a file to my hard disk, I get the download

the download completes, I am unable to see the file in the specified
download directory!
This problem is seen with IE 7.0.6000.16681 as well as Mozilla Firefox

Can anyone please help me out with this issue? Which registry keys are
responsible for download of files?
Please HELP!

Hey,

Essentially - every time I download a file (Steam, Internet, etc.) there's a chance after an arbitrary amount of time passes that the PC suffers from a BSOD.

This has occurred since I initially purchased the pre-made PC from Mesh.com, & I've just about had enough of it now.

My PC doesn't seem to be generating .dmp files either (though it did before), as I'm looking in %SystemRoot%\Minidump with nothing there.

Some PC details I've added to my profile, just re-iterating that I'm on Win 7 64-bit, 32gb RAM, i7, with a pair of GTX 970s system.

Any help would be appreciated - I assume a way to generate / locate .dmp files would be a good start..
Thanks in advance!

Hi there Sorry if this is in the wrong section I recently got a new additional desktop at office that has Windows Professional loaded on it I use my files) deleted Network autostart Boot get (Need with Files of laptop as the primary computer but need to start using the desktop for other routine activities I need to run a vbs exe file in the Files get deleted with Network Boot (Need autostart of files) background as soon as the Windows loads up I copied few files and everything works Files get deleted with Network Boot (Need autostart of files) well I had saved the program along with the vbs amp exe file in 'C Program Files New Doc' no specific reason But when I restart my desktop all the files get deleted I was reading online about this and I figured this could be because Windows is booting on the network I am not sure but that explains why all the files I download get Files get deleted with Network Boot (Need autostart of files) wiped deleted on the next restart I was wondering if you can help me out in three things Can you confirm if Network Boot is the reason why files are getting deleted Assuming Win is working on Network boot is there a folder location where in which the file I save are not deleted in the next restart My main concern is that I need to run this VBS Exe file on Windows startup but because all the files get deleted on start up I can't put the file in the Startup folder or use the Task Scheduler or Group Policy to get this file working on Startup Thanks a lot in advance Any help is appreciated EDIT As this is a desktop that is going to be shared with more colleagues I don't want use a USB or other external drives to run the file vbs exe file Jim

A:Files get deleted with Network Boot (Need autostart of files)

It sounds like you may have Time Freeze, Returnil, or some other "sandbox" software running that uses the Shadow Service to divert downloads and file copies to a cache rather than the actual disk drive folder. When the system is booted the cache is discarded. Files all gone.

Try downloading and running AutoRuns and look for these programs. If you don't see any I mentioned then you may have to search on any you don't recognize.

I've tried downloading a few programs, but they all seem to end with the same result. Once I try to open up the program using the shortcut, it says the item has been moved or changed so the shortcut will no longer work properly. I try opening it manually without using a shortcut, but I can't find it anywhere. The folder where it should have the software is empty.

I'm starting to get impatient, I've tried solving this problem on my own for a day and a half, and I'm going nowhere. Is it a problem with my Windows Installer?
Also, this problem only occured to me about a day or two ago.

Hi,
I have problem.
State of my laptop: Now I havent any OS on my laptop (I formated OS partition)

I accidently deleted "boot manager" boot entry in BIOS. So now in BIOS where I could choose boot order I see now just DVD rom (no HDD,just DVD)

Yet I havent installed any WIN, because I have little problem with it...

I would like to ask you, if I istall WIN7, will it automatically add new boot entry in BIOS (so i will be alble to choose boot order between DVD and HDD)?

Thanks for help

A:Deleted boot entry! Will WIN7 installation fix it?

Was the deleted BIOS listing an "EFI boot disk" which needs to be first in boot order to install Win7 to a GPT HD? Why did you delete this?

Try setting the DVD drive to boot first to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - everything you need is in the link.

If you get an error following those steps, post back the exact error text so we can help you with it.

I had all my files saved on the secondary Western Digital 160GB Sata HDD, it was listed first at the time... But I accidentally deleted the volume on it.. Is there a way to get those files back? I had photos, movies, music, some other important files. The whole reason for having them on that secondary drive was to save them (kicking myself), until I installed Windows 7 on the new 500GB Sata HDD... I got a copy of Paragon Partition Manager 11 Personal ... and going through the Undelete Partition wizard now... Any help? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

PS. I just did the "delete" option in the Windows 7 installation section for "advanced options", the HDDs were there.. but I accidentally hit delete on the 160GB instead... That's all I did with the drive though.

A:Went through to Windows 7 installation, deleted wrong HDD volume..

To try and answer your question; yes and no. You can take the drive and try to have it professionally recovered. There are some companies out there that specifically recover data from these types of situations. This can be very expensive and no guarantee. I know this not what you wanted to here.

I have 3 hdd in my system and have made notations as to the location of each drive and how the OS see's each of them...ie 0 is hard drive 1, 1 is hard drive 2 and 2 is hard drive 3, which is the way I have mine installed in the hdd cage...I know that hdd 0 is the 1TB drive and hdd 1 and 2 are 320 GB for backups and data storage. Keeping in mind each drive letter that the OS assigns to each of them. So when a re-install of the OS comes along I know what hdd is what and where.

I used to be able to download fine then one night a while I decided to run an AVG scan while I was at work like I had many times before I turned on the option to force shutdown if computer was locked just as I had in the past with no problems. I got home turned on my machine and tried to download a file and nothing happened basically what it does in both Firefox and IE is it either downloads the file then deletes it right away or it downloads the folder but its empty I tried changing the download destination but nothing changed. I run Vista Home Premium 32 bit Firefox 3.0.4 and I never really use IE so really dont know the version of it most likely the newest one not sure about SP1. I hope this wasnt to confusing to read.

I was installing Fedora 18 and Windows XP was already installed on my primary C drive. one of my partitions deleted accidentally during installation which contained backup data. New to this forum - in desperation mode!!!

A couple of weeks ago developed two problems, I'll focus on this one first: Any email attachment I try to open, file download, etc., as always, I'm asked: Run - Save - Cancel.  If I click Run or Save, a box pops up naming the file or attachment, says it has a virus and was deleted.  Game over, I can't do anything else.

Running Windows 7, Google reg version, have gotten rid of my McAfee Security and Avisoft for now.  Lots of advice on how to get rid of this but have one big problem: I can't download any fixes. I've tried clicking this and that, or go into regedit but the files in subfolders I'm supposed to look for aren't there.

Not computer literate but with detailed steps will give anything a try....Thanks!!!

in running through various options, found that Microsoft Security Essentials is not responding to my admin authority (i am sole user and admin), all files are locked there. For those reasons I cannot check security essential logs, cannot delete and reinstall essentials. All downloads (including the Win Safety Scanner) are flagged as infected and deleted. Have noted several others have had similar issues (presume it is a rather nasty malware) and it seems you all have been very helpful. I certainly hope you can do the same for me.

Hello dvdadog I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.I would like you to run this program for me.Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.Gringo

When I try to download .exe files, my computer either saves it as 0KB or downloads it and then doesn't let me open the file. No windows pop up to tell me the file is forbidden or anything - clicking just doesn't get a response. I don't think this has to do with the browser I'm using, because this happens on Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer, but for some reason my computer can open .exe files other people downloaded and put on thumb drives for me. This problem possibly predates my installation of Windows 7. (I've had this problem for over a year and a half but decided to find it entertaining rather than annoying enough to fix.)

I use Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and have an out of date version of Avast on my computer (I would uninstall it, but that requires an .exe file on their website), if that's relevant.

[attachment=108624:Download.JPG][attachment=108626:Download 2.JPG][attachment=108627:Download 3.JPG]Hi -

Try doing your downloads this way -
When you download something, click Save, and either save to Desktop or Documents,.normally Documents unless told otherwise.
Next click Open and you will see the item/program you downloaded. Next Right click the Icon and click on Properties.
You may see, near the bottom, a box that says Unblock, Click on that and then click Apply.

See the pictures - This is from my XP, but Win7 is similar -

Hi I used Puran to recover some deleted files from my external hard drive and when I open some of the files I get the following message This document could not be registered It will not be possible to create links recover When also? supporting are I there deleted files, files from other documents When I recover deleted files, are there supporting files also? to this document The documents still fully open and they look like they are all there Also when I look at the properties of some of the folders they say there is bytes in them I did the recovery twice once selectively with only the files that I thought I needed such as doc and pdf and again with everything including files such as cab chm dwg hlp mdf Two identical recovered folders from each recovery say they have a different amount of data in them My question is are there supporting files that need to be recovered along with the doc and pdf files to fix the issues and to make sure i have recovered everything such as the cab chm etc I didnt the extra files were necessary but on further research they might be files needed by word Are they only needed for the program and not individual files Thanks for the help

Check if the service "DCOM Server Process Launcher" is set to Automatic and running. Start->Run->type Services.msc, scroll down until you find the service. Also check to make sure the "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" service is set to Automatic and running.

Try using the system restore function to a date before you deleted the folder.
I don't see this as a driver issue. If it is, then please explain how.

Hi Everyone,

After I've deleted a file, emptied it from the recycle bin, theres still a record kept of that file somewhere. If I type "C:/" in the Start/Search Box theres a history kept of all the files I've deleted. Is this normal and how can I clear this up?

By the way, I've switched off the recent files option so that shouldn't be logging.

Thanks.

Hi Guys
I was wondering why all of a sudden when downloading files (ie: zip files) i am not given the option as to where I want them placed. I used to get a dialogue box asking me where the destination is to be but now it just starts downloading to a temp file. I cant locate if or where it is putting the downloads....lol.
So the question is how do i get the dialogue box back so I can nominate where I can save the file to disk?

Many thx

Hi lozza

Click "my computer"

scroll down to "zip" (this may be Winzip or Winrar) whichever has the .zip extension
highlight the file type
click "edit"
put a tick in "confirm open after download"
click ok twice and your done

Try right clicking on the download file and then click "save target as" then a window will popup with the file name already listed so you just select what location you want to save the file to.

That will let you open it AFTER it downloads.

You really don't need software for downloading run of the mill files or opening them, only propriterary ones. Windows opens all the other files.

A:Help with downloading .exe files please

Just a shot in the dark, but have you checked in your browser preferences to see where the downloads go, usually makes a "Downloads" folder. Even though your download box closes right away doesn't necessarily mean that it's not saving your downloads.

Every day a csv file is downloaded to our desktop which is used by another program. How do I make firefox overwrite the file each time it is downloaded as opposed to adding the (1) after the name of the file?

A:How to get rid of (1) when downloading files...

Hi joshfrogs,

One way is to set Firefox to ask where to download a file to - Tools, Options, Main, check 'Always ask me where to save files' in the Downloads section, OK. If the file exists in that location then you have the option of overwriting it.

I guess the reason FF adds the number is because, for example, many program installers are called simply 'Setup.exe' and so everything but the last downloaded file of this name would be lost otherwise.

You usually download to the Downloads folder ? If so, go check the folder's Properties > Security tab, See if you have the right to 'write' to the folder.

Other than that, the other thing I would try is to uninstall Norton, and also run their own removal tool, from here: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

Then see if you can download.
