I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Acer Aspire 5552G-7641 laptop with 4gb of memory (2x2gb). The max memory supported is 8gb so i put in 2x4gb memory sticks. When I check the system info it says 8gb installed (4 gb usable).

I read alot of forums and it says to change the dram voltage but I have no idea how to do this. The BIOS that comes with this laptop is also very basic and does not allow customization of specific settings.

Any tips or information would be greatly appreciated.

A:Hardware Reserved Memory Issue (2.5gb Usable out of 8gb) WIN 7 32bit

Hi Erriiieeee welcome to SevenForums

The reason you're seeing 2.5GBs is due to your 32-bit OS version of Windows 7 Home Premium . 32-bit OSes dont see anything past 2.5GBs . If you want to see 8GBs you would need 64-bit version of Windows . That would need to be a reinstallation of Windows 7 not an upgrade .

Take a look at the link below to achieve the best solution

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Please look at Step 1 and 2 in the above tutorial . If you need a 64-bit version of your Windows 7 Home Premium

Hi I believe you are subject to the 32 bit memory limit that occurs within Windows. The limit is 4GB, so to use your 8GB fully you would need a 64 bit OS. Mark Russinovitch, a highly respected individual writes this... 32-bit Client Effective Memory Limits While 4GB is the licensed limit for 32-bit client SKUs, the effective limit is actually lower and dependent on the system?s chipset and connected devices. The reason is that the physical address map includes not only RAM, but device memory as well, and x86 and x64 systems map all device memory below the 4GB address boundary to remain compatible with 32-bit operating systems that don?t know how to handle addresses larger than 4GB. If a system has 4GB RAM and devices, like video, audio and network adapters, that implement windows into their device memory that sum to 500MB, 500MB of the 4GB of RAM will reside above the 4GB address boundary, as seen below:The result is that, if you have a system with 3GB or more of memory and you are running a 32-bit Windows client, you may not be getting the benefit of all of the RAM.  On Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista RTM, you can see how much RAM Windows has accessible to it in the System Properties dialog, Task Manager?s Performance page, and, on Windows XP and Windows Vista (including SP1), in the Msinfo32 and Winver utilities. On Window Vista SP1, some of these locations changed to show installed RAM, rather than available RAM, as documented in this Knowledge Base article.

hi guys,
i've never had this problem before, my windows 7 used to utilize all my ram, since my hdd crashed and i got a new one i bought extra ram, my motherboard can support up to 16gb ram unbuffered, i have a 64bit windows, i updated my bios, yet my windows still
uses only 4gb of my 12gb ram, and i found that the memory reserved for hardware is an astonishing 8gb, i followed all the guidelines i could find on the forums and still can't fix it, i saw that others encountered this problem asswell, how can i fix this?
any pointers or solutions out there? would installing an older version of windows perhaps solve this problem? like xp pro? thanks in advance

A:Windows 7 hardware reserved memory way too much!

msconfig, boot tab, advanced options, uncheck the maximum memory if it is limited.
The working and private columns are the actual physical amount used. If you look at the shared, most of the reserved memory could be used by other needs if required.
Your Blackberry app is causing hard faults. RIM.Desktop.exe  Do you have the latest version for Windows 7?
I simply point out that you may never approach using all of the ram. Today's hardware is very powerful. Run the CPU meter gadget and configure it for always on top.
Then multitask as many processes\applications as you can and observe the memory usage. My guess is 30% maximum utilized.
I would not get concerned about how the system utilizes resources unless you find that you are having performance issues.
You could now run multiple virtual machines simultaneously with all of that memory installed. Do you have a quad core to allocate cores?
Use the rig and have fun.

Msconfig - boot - advanced - unchecked maximum memory - windows 7 detected 4096 of memory (what is true, i have 4 gb memory on my system)

After ok, and restart in maximum memory field there is not 4096 it is 0

Is that normal behaviuor?

My computer - properties - installed memory - it says 4gb installed

Any idea?

First 2 gigs isnt enough.

In win 7 the OS takes about 1/2 to put into fast cache for when you open an app. I suspect the rest is shared video memory.

I had 2 gb of ddr3 ram installed before, yesterday i added 2 more gb but the system uses only 3.24 gb and the rest is reserved for hardware. I hope it is used for graphics memory but i have an external graphic card of 1 gb video memory. How to release this memory. I have searched many forums and they suggested to uncheck the maxmemory in msconfig, that didnt work.

Also they asked to enable memory remapping in bios, but my bios doesnt have that option. My OS is windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.

I'm attaching the screenshots below.

A:Hardware reserved Memory?

There are a lot of things that can cause this. However since you are on 32 bit windows 3.2 gigs is the maximum it will make use of. This is a limitation in the 32bit system not an actual error per say.

Ive got a Sony Vaio 64bit laptop dual processor 2.20 GHz. Its been very slow - the computer usage will stay about 70% and memory usage is alwasy >90%?? I looked at resource monitor and:

2300MB hardware reserved
664MB in use
3MB modified
94MB standbye
1MB Free

Currently there is 3GB of RAM installed with only about 700mb free; Im assuming this should be upwards to about 2.3GB free?

What is going on here? Why is the hardware reserved memory sooo high? Im assuming thats why it is slow - there is no free memory. Any ideas?

A:75% of Memory is Hardware Reserved?

Could it be a problem with one of the RAM sticks? Im assuming there is a 2Gb + 1GB stick installed now. If one of these were not working properly, would my system profile still show 3GB or would it show less?

I have a windows 10 computer that i did a clean install during the free upgrade. Now i went the Task Manager to see that , my hardware reserved memory is 5.5GB. I have a 8GB ram and i can only use 2.5 gb.. How can i fix this?

A:Hardware Reserved Memory 5.5GB

Are you running the 32bit or 64bit Windows? With the 32bit you have approximately 3.571gb roughly to work with out of the first 4gb of memory installed. The rest is simply mapped out to hardwares. The 64bit on the other hand will handle upwards of 128gb of memory in theory.

Running the 64bit 10 Pro here with 16gb installed I see 2.9gb in use at the moment due to having browser windows and a few other startups running while idle it sits at about 1.5gb. The "Hardware Reserved" immediately implies the 32bit Windows where I wouldn't be seeing the 13.1gb available out of the 16gb total here.

So, I upgraded my PC a couple of days ago with 16GB more memory and a 240GB SSD, after installing Win7 Pro, I found that it registered all 20GB but claimed that only (hah only...) 12 were useable. I looked in the resource monitor and found that 8GB are "hardware reserved". Every place I've looked says to go in to msconfig and uncheck a maximum memory box, mine isn't checked. The only other cause I've read about is in the BIOS. Is there anyway to change this? 8GB seems like a lot to be reserved for hardware... Thanks.

I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I had a similar problem with my Dell Precision 370.

ok heres my issue, and yes ive googled and read through all the posts I could find and nothing has helped.

I just rebuilt my computer, new motherboard and such and it has 6 GB of ram installed but it is only using 2 GB and has 4 GB hardware reserved.

I have went and set the bios settings to memory remapping, I have tried reinstalling windows, I've tried unchecking the msconfig max memory, reseating the ram, and resetting the bios.

In the Systems window it reads that there is Total 6 GB Memory and only 2 GB usable, and in the Bios in the System information it also reads only 2 GB usable memory. The ram sticks arnt new, I took them form my old computer when I did the rebuilt, which are 3 Elipida 2GB 1333 MHz sticks

The motherboard is a Maximus III Gene with bios version 2103
OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

well i see the problem is because of softwares installed in your system.
do these steps:
1) go to msconfig (type it in start menu) then uncheck any unwanted programs that are running in your startup. place the screen shot of that here so i can help you on that.
2) check your drivers and make sure you have the latest and updated ones
3)check your system with an antivirus

This weekend I got home and set my laptop up started playing a game and it froze up on me I didn t think too much of it restarted went on youtube and a Freezing and Hardware Reserved Memory few videos later it hung up again This time however it resumed after a while of stuttering Since then I have had three other hangups Hardware Reserved Memory and Freezing just this weekend that I had to restart from I was looking through my explorer and noticed that Hardware Reserved Memory and Freezing under my System tab it showed my RAM as GB GB usable so I started looking into this I never remember this being this way Under my resource manager it is showing mb reserved for hardware which seems very strange My graphics card is dedicated so I have no clue what would be causing this So my computer is using approx of my RAM all the time just doing basic tasks and it freezes up quite often if i start doing memory intensive things like classwork Googling the issue showed a few people talking about reformatting their computers or remapping their memory in bios I did reformat a few weeks ago but I don t know that the issue stems from there There is no memory mapping option in my bios so that s out I actually decided to reformat again today to see if it helped and this time I completely reset my harddrive instead of just reinstalling windows but it still didn t fix the issue I ve run windows memory diagnostic and it says there is no issue Memtest I had running for about hours last night no errors reported but it lists my memory as MB not MB like it should be If one of my RAM cards were dead would it show up in my System tab Why would that cause it to be under reserved What else could be the cause here Doubting it s software related at this point since I just completely reformatted my computer Win GB RAM ASUS N SV laptop Intel Core Duo GHZ T nvidia M Edit Suppose it may be worth something to mention the reinstalling of windows a few weeks back was due to multiple blue screens messing up my registry

Memtest86 I had running for about 8 hours last night, no errors reported but it lists my memory as 3017MB, not 4096MB like it should be..Hi -It seems that you are OK with playing a bit with your computer from the post.I would prefer it if you could run Memtest86 with only one stick of RAM installed, and then repeat it.>>it lists my memory as 3017MB, not 4096MB like it should be.. << Do you mean there are 4 sticks of RAM.If one stick is not regestering this will find it, and you can then replace it.Single stick tests should not take quite as long, since a bad one will show up quicker.Regards -

Hi all

I'm having an issue with "hardware reserved" memory in Win 7. I followed a guide somewhere to speed up my booting when I was bored and it involved changing the number of cpus used in boot, however after I did this windows only shows 4gb of ram as usable. I undid this change but its still happening!

Please help me to reset my laptop without removing windows

A:how factory reset acer aspire 4738

Hello persia and welcome to Seven Forums.

Most computers come with a factory installed recovery option. The recovery option is usually located in the Start menu > All Programs and provides detailed step-by-step instructions to return your machine to the exact same condition it was in when you first bought it. That means you would have to install all Windows Updates, any programs you installed, etc.

If you provide a little more info about why you want (or need) to reset your laptop other Forum members might jump in with additional suggestions. For example, are you not able to start your computer? Do you think your computer has malware? Are you not able to get an internet connection? Are you receiving any errors? Did you recently install some software or program that has messed up your computer?

Here are a few things for you to consider:
1. Did you create recovery CDs when you bought the Acer? If not you may be able to get them directly from the manufacturer. (This is the US Acer Store so you may have to go to the store that services your country if you're not in the US.)
eRecovery Media | Acer
2. Do you think a System Restore would help your situation? This tutorial explains more:
System Restore
3. You might find that a Repair Install will help you. If successful it will preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc but you would still have to reinstall all Windows Updates (probably 250+ updates which could take several hours.)
Repair Install

Again, please provide more info about your situation and why you want to reset to factory settings.

I recently bought 7 32-Bit using the ultimate deal. I burned the ISO to a DVD and installed it.

I have 4GB on my notebook but it says 2.75gb usable.

I had Vista 64-bit on there previously.

I tried msconfig > boot > advanced options and checking max memory but to no avail

The usable memory only 935 Mb, fewer than hardware-reserved that take 1,1 Gb of memory.

Is that normal ? that hardware-reserved took more memory rather than usable ??
please if any explanation for what reason they do that ?

I've check the BIOS, no remapping setting that I can use for.
can I remapping / reduce those hardware-reserved usage in such other way ?
or how can i increase my usable memory close to installed RAM ?
I've not done any change or upgrade since I bought that new laptop, and its seem memory-load is too busy

Since the external works, it looks like you're ready for a new keyboard, but to be sure try the onscreen one; Accessories>System Tools>Accessibility>On Screen Keyboard. Also please don't post in bold caps. It's considered shouting. Also use the built in font as your post is quite large. Since your OS is Windows 7 and not 9X, I'm moving the thread there.

Hi All

I have just finished a new build on a pc with the following specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

Processor: Intel Quadcore Q6600

GPU: Nvidia 9600GT

S/C:Creative Labs expansion card

The issue I'm having is that, even though both the BIOS and windows recognize that there is 8GB of RAM installed only 3.25 is 'useable'. looking around I've found that just under 5GB is 'reserved for hardware'. I can accept a GB or so being used but 5 is a little over the top.

So far I have:

checked BIOS for 'memory remap' option, which is unavailable.

updated the BIOS.

As it recognises the full 8GB I can safely say the RAM isn't faulty.
Anyone have any suggestions.

A:Solved: Memory Issue in new build relating to 'reserved for hardware'

Only about 3.25 GB RAM is usable on a computer with a 32-bit OS. The solution to your problem is a 64-bit OS.

A:Hardware Reserved Memory is high - advice/opinions required..

Hello Ade,
Everything you describes sounds about right to me. The more memory you add, the more Windows will try to allocate; however, with only 2 GBs installed, windows (probably) cannot allocate memory to specific functions because it may have to swap programs in and out of memory as required. However, once you up it to 4 GBs, a new allocation scheme kicks in. First off, windows will take (up to) a full 1GB of memory off the top due to your 32 bit OS limitation. How much it takes off depends on your chipset limitations and/or your bios restrictions. So, when you upped the memory to 4 GBs, windows decided there was now enough memory to allocate a specific amount to the graphics function, and it appears that allocation will vary (on your machine) based on whether or not you are using onboard graphics or an external graphics card.

We have just bought new PC with Windows 7 after old PC died. Have tried to transfer files from a memory stick (mainly word / excel) onto new pc but Windows exploer says memory stick folder is empty. When put stick into laptop (running I think on XP) it clearly shows files are present. Have tried copying files onto different stick but get the same problem.

New PC has Kapersky and it scanned the stick when 1st put it in and found no problems with it.

Would appreciate any help as I am not very proficient and don't want to loose the files.

A:Memory stick showing folder empty in Windows 7 explorer

Not sure what could be causing that but why not transfer the files to a DVD and then use that to transfer it to the new PC. Then reformat the mem stick on the Windows 7 machine and it should then function ok for furture use.

Alternatively save the files off the mem stick into a new folder on the XP machine. Format the mem stick on the Windows 7 machine, move it back and copy the folder onto the stick and then see if the Windows 7 machine will read it.

I have an Acer Aspire 5532 running Windows 7 64 bit with 3.00 GB ram and I have 2.75 GB of ram saying unusable. My computer is and has been very slow and I haven't recently added or removed any hardware.

I have checked 2 possible problems from info I found on this problem being I've located msconfig, boot, advanced options, max memory is "unchecked" and have checked my bios which do show the correct amount of memory but I can not enable "memory remap" because bios does not support. I've added a resource monitor screen shot below.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated, Dave

A:Unusable Memory Windows 7 64 bit Acer Aspire 5532

DaveB727, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Everything looks fine in that screen shot. The "missing" ~256 MB of ram is being allocated to the onboard video (AMD 780G) which has none of its own dedicated memory and it has to get it from somewhere, so it is shared with system ram. Short of lowering the amount it can use (not recommended) in the bios (if the option is even there), leave it alone.

As for it being slow, that could be any of a whole host of things, but the video memory isn't one of them. To start if you haven't,

1. Use something like ccleaner,

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

to help with cleaning up junk/temp files.

2. Defrag.

3. Check for malware.

A:Ram 16 GB ( 11.5 GB Usable ) ? 4.5 GB Hardware reserved

Hello BlackStab,

From my experience, hardware reserved RAM is somehow connected to the physical memory on your graphics card. So, the more you have on the card, the more RAM will be hardware reserved. Why? I think it has something to do with memory mapping but I'm not equipped to explain that to you (or myself). Anyway, if you have 3GBs of physical memory on your graphics card, then I'm thinking that might be normal; however, if I am incorrect in any way, shape or form, an expert will be along shortly to tear me a new... uh, I mean... will be along shortly to properly assist you.

Now, another thing that could cause a large amount of RAM to be hardware reserved would be an invalid memory configuration. This could occur when one uses double-sided chips in a mobo where only single-sided chips can be addressed. In this case, although it can be recognized, it cannot be addressed, so it is essentially "set aside." Also, a well know example of hardware reservation (in action) would be where you install 4GBs of memory for a 32 bit OS and only 3.xx GBS are usable. This is a different situation from the first example; however, the results are the same. So, in summary, if you don't get a different response from a forum expert and I don't get bashed... I mean corrected for mine, then you can assume you are OK!

A:Other operating systems not showing up in msconfig boot tab

Having the OSes boot independently via the BIOS is the best way to configure it so that neither is dependent upon the other to boot.

However if you don't wish to boot your choice via the BIOS then you can install EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required) to the primary OS (on the HDD which has the System Active partition) to add the other OS to a Windows Boot menu.

its also useing 1.29gb of ram right now but if you add that up with thoes two it would be over 4gbs.

in everest it shows as it should be free is 2702 used 1382 and that adds up to 4086.
so is that just how vista managements memory?
does anyone else taskmanager free and cached add up to the total 4086?
this is also 64bit

A:is my memory showing right?, ?

Vista caches memory constantly, giving and taking away from applications. If you download process explorer you will see that vista takes some for itself (physical memory), caches some, and pages some to the kernel. Nonpaged can't be given up.

Commit charge is just the amount of memory that a current app has used (committed) in a given session. So nothing is wrong!

In short, I bought a new computer for home, and chose to reinstall Windows XP - despite two drives installed with 320 GB in each, the XP operating system only shows 137GB in there.

I did some net searching and found out that XP version pre-SP2 can not read any more than 137 GB.

I found the following link

And amended the Regedit to suit. I restarted WINDOWS and it still reads 137 GB.

I have two questions:

1) Is there another solution out there?
2) If I went out and purchased the VISTA upgrade, would the problem simply sort itself out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I am working on an older computer - a Dell Dimension L866r that came with ME. THe client had installed xp incorrectly and caused all sorts of problems. Got most of that fixed - but their computer is not showing the correct memory. I thought it might be their original RAM so I bought a 256 and it is showing only 32 RAM. The other RAM is suppossedly also 256 but only shows 64 - both in the bios and in the general tab of system properties. Also, I can put one or the other of the Rams in but if I put both, it will not reboot.

The computer is running on a Pentium III, 863 mhz. The chips are 133. The Dell website says the RAM should be 133 or 100. Someone told me that there might be a "switch" on the motherboard for these different specs. Is that correct?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

I just installed 1 gig memory on top of my 512mb existing memory, (motherboard can take up to 2.6gig), on my desktop when I click on "my computer" and properties, it only shows 992 mb of ram. I have tried doing everything, and came to know it has something to do with the onboard VGA, which is taking over my RAM.

Is that it or anyone has any other idea?

I decided to give my laptop Acer an upgrade in RAM so I got a GB stick to bring the total amount of usable Memory Laptop 4Gb Installed, 3.75GB RAM to Gb But now it seems that there only seems to be GB Laptop 4Gb Memory Installed, 3.75GB usable of the RAM usable I know that the integrated graphics takes some of the RAM but this laptop has the ATI HD graphics which according to my dxdiag takes up Mb Gb MB according to notebookcheck net I read somewhere that perhaps it's my hardware or chipset that limits the usable but since I couldn't find anything on my computer's hardware that does so the instruction manual indicates the laptop can be upgraded to a max of GB memory So I was wondering if there is any way to allow my computer to utilize all GB or is it simply the limitation of my laptop's hardware Screenshots provided by dxdiag and Resource Monitor in case that might provide any information http img imageshack us img jpg

A:Laptop 4Gb Memory Installed, 3.75GB usable

A 32-bit operating system will support a maximum of 4GB RAM minus a some amount for BIOS, graphics, and other hardware needs. Most 32-bit systems will see on average 3 - 3.5GB usable RAM. This Microsoft forum thread (specifically, the post by SpiritX about half-way down) has several good links for additional info.

I recently did a new install of Windows 7 64 bit. I noticed windows showed 4Gb of ram (2.75Gb usable). I read tons of articles after googling this and tried several options to free up some more ram.

I have 2 options in bios to change memory remapping over 4GB. S/W and H/W.

When I enable S/W remapping, windows boots everything seems fine but I get a crackling sound from speakers. Bios shows 4Gb (3Gb usable). Windows shows 4Gb ram (3.0 available).

When I enable H/W remapping, windows BSOD during boot, but bios shows 4Gb ram and all 4 Gb available.

So, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to eliminate the BSOD after enabling H/W memory remapping? Try installing Windows 7 again? I read some people saying bump up the voltage on ram perhaps? I've never done any overclocking, but would try if someone thinks it may help.

I've tried several different setting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds almost like a bios memory compatibility issue to me.
Have you tried checking the ram in both modes using memtest?
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Since the memory is obviously the center of this I think it bares testing.
Keep in mind you'll need several passes each way with memtest to get any kind of accurate result and will take some time

Hi there I have just opened ms config and noticed there is not a version of windows running there.

How can i rectify this with or with out re-installing windows 7 again.

Any help would be grateful

A:Windows 7 not showing up in msconfig

Try checking the box next to "OS boot information". You may have to close then re-open msconfig for it to take effect. Not sure if this will show the OS under boot tab or just show everything that's booting on startup splash screen.

Could also try running System File Checker scan from elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

I just installed a 512MB card into my mobo but when I go under "My Computer" properites it only shows up as 256. Does anyone know why? I have Windows ME. Thanks in advance.

A:My memory is showing up as half in my properites

It is POSSIBLE (but not very likely) that one side has failed in some way. Im assuming you have double sided (DUHH). So, heres some tests to do; run it in a different SLOT on your mobo, check your BIOS, run it in another machine. If none of these display any difference then it could just be very dodgy memory. If they do, then you would have found your culprit.

All files are listed but only most of them can be retrieved with some missing. i read an article about misrepresented capacities (a 2gb drive which is badged as 16gb) which they said you could change the setting on the drive (something like change the controller chip) so that it represents its true capcity. i guess then i could then at least use the lesser capacity. Hi guys, upon reading past posts of people having problems with their removable media not showing in "my computer", I have yet found a solution. Has anyone solved this?

I have tried removing all devices in device manager, usbs, hdd, dvd roms and rebooting twice, updating all drivers, to no luck. In computer management the removable disk shows as "disk 1" in disk management, no letter assigned to it however, have assigned letters of all the alphabet but still won't show in "my computer" The only way I can access the memory card is assign letter then right click then open. And do this each time I want to access the card.

I have a pavilion zv6000 laptoop with media card reader built in. Running xp home edition.

Anybody find the culprit yet?? Would a re-format and fresh install solve the problem??

If the memory is in correctly and works it will show automatically. You don't have to do anything.

So, either it is bad, or is not installed all the way.

Is the original 64 removable? If so, you may want to take it out and put the new chip in its place to test it.

I've seen a tutorial before that if you're using a Processor to check on "Number of Processors" and select 2 supposedly it helps booting up into Windows faster.

How about the "Maximum Memory"?
Do you think it'll help if I used all the memory to boot Windows?

and if not, what do you think it's good for?

A:Boot Advanced Option (Maximum Memory)

Those options are present for testing configuration options (software testing, driver testing, debugging).

Any reference to setting these options to aid in booting or increasing system performance is nonsense.

The settings are there to limit performance, not to increase it.

Herewith a link to the tech spec of my laptop.

I have 512M of memory in it, have upgraded the BIOS to the latest available, but when putting another stick of memory in it to bring it to 1Gig, while the BIOS sees the sum total of memory, the Properties of My Computer, does not.

The spec indicates a maximum permitted level of memory being the 512M but I don't understand just what exactly it is that is preventing this memory to be Seen by all elements. If the BIOS can see it, why not the rest of the system/computer/software(???)

Hi, i came across a awesome deal on kingston hyperx memory that my mobo uses.
Basically going from 2gb to 4gb. But for some reason my mobo only shows 3008 mb of memory, XP pro sp2 x64 shows only 2.93gb...

My motherboard is a ASUS P5B deluxe that takes up to 8 gigs of ram.

Something in the mobo options?

Processor memory, what's that ? Are you running 32 bit or 64bit windows ? With so much RAM you should be both using 32bit version. The rest of it I don't understand what you are talking about. How much physical memory do you have on each computer. Also check BIOS in both of them and make sure they are both set identically.

I have a Pegatron Violet6 motherboard. There are four memory slots, and I have four 4-GB sticks of RAM.
I've been having a lot of BSODs lately, so I decided to test my RAM again.

Putting in one stick at a time and running memtest86+ gives:
Slot 1: All four sticks test okay and show 666 MHz (1333 MHz and 9-9-9-24)
Slot 2: All four sticks test okay and show 666 MHz
Slot 3: All four sticks test okay and show 400 MHz
Slot 4: All four sticks test okay and show 200 MHz (7-7-7-20)

If I put RAM in slots 1 and 2 and run memtest, it shows 666 MHz. But if I put something in slots 1, 2, and 3, I get 533 MHz.

Is my MB failing, or is this normal behavior? I'm currently only running with RAM in slots 1 and this going to work for a while, or should I be ordering a new motherboard?

A:memtest86+ showing different speeds for memory slots

I have never experienced readings like that, and can only guess as to what would cause it.

I tried looking for a motherboard manual with no luck. I thought there might be something in the RAM section about the slots that might explain it.

Installing RAM in odd combinations will toggle between dual channel and single channel mode but that should not change the speed. So it does not sound like anything normal.

You could be having trouble with voltage going to the slots. But even then I can't think of why that would knock the speed down.

Try running CPU-Z and see what it gives for RAM stats in different combinations.
You could populate all the slots and test it first.
