Preferred Solution: Crash to Black Screen, Reboot playing Skyrim/Fallout 4/ETS2

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey!
I get a computer crash while im playing skyrim. Its currently the only task I'v been experiencing this crash. The computer freezes, in the last frame of the game. I get a nasty sound in my headset, like a eletric interface kinda sound. The keyboard and mouse gets disabled (no lights or response)

I have a whole new computer, with new parts.
running windows 7 professional 64bit

Any ideas?

Hi -

There are no BSOD memory dumps nor traces of actual BSODs.

I did find 6 Event Viewer Entries indicating sudden system shutdown (could have been hard power-down) -

Code:
Event[78]:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 2011-11-25T00:08:26.192
Level: Critical
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.
This error could be caused if the system stopped responding,
crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
You said the entire system is new - all hardware parts? Did you or another assemble it?

Run Speccy - Download Speccy 1.14.288 - FileHippo.com
- "File" | "Publish Snapshot" | Paste URL into your next post

Keep Speccy up - check temps when system freezes.

Also keep ResMon up - look for activity spikes -
START | type resmon

Hello,
i was having freezing issues with some games but after re-installing windows and using the drivers that came with Clevo its fixed but now i am having Nvidia driver crash while playing Bethesda games like Fallout 3 , Fallout:New Vegas or Oblivion , i posted on Nvidia forums but couldnt get any help. It seems TDR issue but i have this laptop for 3 years and i never had issues back then , i really have no idea what happened.
I found crash dumps ,maybe they will tell something and help to solve this.
Thank you.

My thread on Nvidia forums: https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...recovered-34-/

P.S.: -0224 dump came from Fallout 3 , 0234 one is from New Vegas

I had a desktop that was just sitting for about 2 years without use and just hooked it up to my TV to make a media center. I immediately installed Windows 7 and had a fresh slate so old software problems shouldn't be an issue. All drivers are up to date.

The problem is that whenever a game is played, it will randomly create a black screen with buzzing sound. Some games is completely random, other games crash at about the same point. Sometimes the video signal cuts out to the TV, sometimes it just stays black. Either way it needs to be manually turned off. I have checked GPU temperatures and they are about 80C under load. I have ran memtest86 and no errors on the RAM. I just don't know what else it could be.

The specs are:

Intel Core 2 3000MHz
2x2GB Corsair DDR2-400
ATI 4850
OCZ 500W Power Supply

A:Black screen crash and sound loop while playing games

If that +12v rail voltage is accurate then that would definately be a problem. Check the voltage in the BIOS as it could be a simple case of HWMonitor not reading the sensor output correctly.

Can you give us a DXDiag report.

Click Start and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the Run box.

When the dxdiag window opens click the Save All Information button and save the text file to your desktop or another location so you know where it is.

Then copy and paste the entire content of that text file into a reply here.

New fresh install of windows 8 updated to 8.1 with all my motherboard drivers etc up to date. Display drivers are the newest Omega drivers from AMD.

I installed steam and decided to install csgo to my ssd/C: drive since it's my most played game. Now I can play the game fine but after a short amount of time the game and display drivers will crash giving me a black screen and sound loop. I let it sit there for a while so I could get a bsod and crash dump to happen.

Since then I also updated my ssd to the latest firmware and reinstalled my AMD drivers and the problem still persists. I have no other games installed at the moment so if you wan't me to check if the crash happens with other games let me know.

Here is my debug info

An issue that has been annoying me since I first clicked play, I boot up the launcher, click play, this then boots up the fallout3.exe, I click New game, it loads for about 2 seconds, then presto I get a black screen.

I've installed the latest patch, I've tried the ffdshow method on the official site, I've tried different graphical settings, I've tried disabling V-sync, I've tried windowed mode, compatibility mode and nothing even makes the slightest bit of difference.

Google has no solutions left for me to try, so I have no idea why this is even happening.

The game auto-set graphics to medium when I first opened up the launcher, so I know my system is good enough to play the game.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

Seems like a graphics card problem to me...You don't provide any info regarding your graphics card.

Click on the Start Orb in order to bring up the Vista start menu. On the search field type "dxdiag" and click on the icon. If dxdiag wants to check if your drivers are digitally signed let it do so.

Then click on the Display Tab and post the information found there.

Hey guys. Having a problem with some games that I'm playing via Steam. Fallout 4 used to run flawlessly on my PC. One day, I turned it on and noticed that the graphics settings had been dropped to low. The framerate was also completely horrendous.

Any ideas on what might have caused this?

A:BSOD Plannetside 2 (steam) black screen> reboot> BSOD crash report

A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics related issue. Many a factors or components may cause such a BSOD.

First of all, it is the display driver. From your BSOD dumps, I have noticed that it crashed the same irrespective of the driver version over time. So overlooking this part right now. Will concentrate it on later again, if needed.

Next thing is overclocking, which sometimes lead display to crash. And, you are slightly overclocked.

Code:
CPUID: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz"
MaxSpeed: 3400
CurrentSpeed: 3411
As the system is crashing, you should stop overclocking. Set all the hardware elements like CPU, GPU and RAM to default; and reset the BIOS to default too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

Heat is another factor. Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Also, dust accumulation causes heat, and dust accumulation depends on the age of the system. How old the system is? If possible, dismantle it and clean the inside carefully .... specially the air vents and fan grills, so that it can blow the hot air out easily.
Dont forget to apply thermal paste to the CPU when re-seating the system.

Insufficient power supply is also a great cause of display crash. Check if the CPU is supplying adequate power there or not.

It GPU itself may not perform upto the mark. Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

If you are using Windows Update to check for your hardware drivers there is a reasonable chance they are not up to date. Your best option is to get the drivers directly from the PC manufacturers website or directly from the graphics card manufacturers site.

What are you temperatures and voltages (power supply outputs) like? Use HWMonitor to get an idea, take two screenshots of the HWMonitor windows. One with your PC idle at the desktop and then leave HWMonitor running in the background, run a game for a few minutes then exit and screenshot it again. Post the two pictures in a reply here.

I usually get random crashes to desktop and BSOD's/reboots when playing Elite Dangerous.
I have all updated drivers...

Any help is appreciated. I hope I captured all the dump files correctly.
If not I can change the settings and create some new ones.

Hey, sometimes when i play one game or just desktop working my pc crash, reboot and thats it.
In device manager is everything ok. When i go into Troubleshooting only in Audio can't find solution.
Not sure if problem is Realtek or High definiton codec.

Should i remove High Definition Audio Device or Realtek High Definition?
Disabled one... ok
No minidumb files, no bsod...
Still crashing

A:Crash - Reboot when playing game!

Should only use 1 audio device.
Don't remove the other though - instead, disable it in Device Manager
Test each one to see which is best for you.

Even though you're not having BSOD's - Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Also, Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Hi,

The system crashes in the middle of playing Plants V Zombies (a really cool game, I know, but what do you do?). It doesn't BSOD or hang, just powers off and then you have to reboot it. The error log clearly shows the unclean boot but I can't figure out what is causing it.

I tried using the BSOD Diagnostic tool, but it didn't find an error dump file even though error dumps are configured. The output from the file is, of course, attached. Any suggestions or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Matt

A:Crash and Reboot multiple times, playing plants v zombies

OK- this sounds like my problem. I have an ordinary ASUS U56E just reading email, pdf-files, surfing. There is no dump-file, it just seems to power-down and the there are always two events, one critical: Kernel-41 "System was not cleanly shut down" and one Error: Eventlog 6008. When it comes back up, a screen asking me if I want to start windows normally. All the events happen -after- the shutdown--that is, during reboot.
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...s-5-night.html

On my system it doesn't seem to happen if I leave it unattended overnight, say. Seems like there needs to be some mouse activity.

No memory dumps in the uploaded reports. When this happens with Error 41 events, it's usually symptomatic of a hardware problem occurring beneath the threshold that Windows can recognize.

Only 61 updates since SP1 - most systems have 70 or more. Please visit Windows Updates and get all available updates.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's recently. Here's the information that I've compiled:

Quote:
There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.-
Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
It's my opinion that SSD's aren't reliable enough (with current hardware) to be used on a system that needs to work reliably. Until I see reliability I will not recommend, nor will I use, SSD's for critical applications.
06 Dec 2011 - This post tends to confirm issues with certain SSD chipsets and certain controllers - [SOLVED] cant find the cause of BSOD F4 - Tech Support Forum

Only other issue I see is repeated Windows Update failures.

If the system still shuts down after attending to the SSD stuff that I posted above - then I'd have to suspect hardware problems.

Overheating is the most likely, so start by checking to see if all the fans are working, if all the coolers are free of dirt/dust, and that there's lot's of free space for air circulation in the case.

If that doesn't reveal anything, then start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diags

I recommend if you are overclocking any hardware, that you reset these values within the BIOS to their default values in order to increase the stability of your system.

Please run the following tests for your graphics card and RAM:
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Run Memtest86+ for least 7-8 passes, and preferrly overnight as it can take a while to fully complete.

Test each RAM stick individually, if an error is found then move the same RAM stick into the next DIMM slot and test again, if errors are found for the same RAM stick in every available slot then you have a faulty RAM module. On the other hand, if no errors are found in the next slot or the other slots for the same RAM module, then you have a faulty DIMM slot.

Test each RAM stick and every motherboard DIMM slot available.

Graphics Card:Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Read all the steps within the hardware test tutorials very carefully, as stress tests is designed run components to their maximum capacity, in order to point out failing or faulty hardware components.

Use the following program to monitor your hardware temperatures during the stress test:CPUID HWMonitor
Hard Drive:Disk Check
CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World
SeaTools for Windows | Seagate
Scan for corrupted or missing Windows files with:SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot
Please check for the latest driver updates (may have to install a older driver) for your graphics card on the manufacturer's website, and check for any driver compatibility issues with:Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows
If you are using DirectX, then try uninstalling and then reinstalling the DirectX API:How to download and install DirectX

Temp Monitoring

Check for heating issues using Speccy or HWMonitor.

Speccy - System Information - Free Download
HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Upload a screen shot with either of the tools: Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums\

Run Disk Check on your Hard Drive for file system errors and bad sectors on it.

 Hard Drive Diagnostics
Double click and open my computer.
Right click on desired drive and hit properties.
Click on tools tab and Check now.

Read complete instructions on the tutorial: Disk Check

Other Tests:

Upload a screenshot of your hard disk using Crystal Disk Info.
Make a hard drive test from the hard drive manufacturers website.
Test your Hard Drive with SeaTools.

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.RAM - Test with Memtest86+

The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.*If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
*If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.*If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
*If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all the other motherboard slots.

If Part 2 testing shows errors, and all tests in Part 3 show errors, you will need to test the RAM sticks in another computer and/or test other RAM in your computer to identify the problem.

In this way, you can identify whether it is a bad stick of RAM, a bad motherboard, or incompatibility between the sticks.

   Information
Errors are sometimes found after 8 passes.

   Tip
Memtest should be done overnight.

Try disabling your antivirus. Skyrim will crash occasionally anyway.
I would get rid of McAfee and Use Microsoft Security Essentials, it's free which is a bonus.
I would also download malwarebytes and run it http://shop.malwarebytes.org/lpa/34...54dc2c93bd02&gclid=CPzGnJS87K0CFdCP7Qod2SDd3w

Hi!

I have the 1.4 US Patch of Fallout 3.
And I'm running on Vista x32 Ultimate SP1

When I am 'The Pint Sized Slasher' in Tranquility Lane, everytime I kill a person, and then walk into a door, or out a door, Fallout shuts down to desktop.
Is there any way to fix this or just pass this quest by cheat codes?
I've tried "GetQuestCompleted" but I only get and error saying "Missing Parameter Quest"

Please help!

Hi Ameneses54,

When it goes to the black screen does it get past the POST (Its the white writing when your PC starts)? If so, does it have any errors on it?

When you get onto your desktop right click My Computer and select manage. Does it say any errors in the event logs (On the left hand side in the event viewer sub menu)?

Also have you updated your BIOS recently?

Many times when i restart my pc, i only get a black screen after reboot.
Screen turns off to reboot, but never comes back on.
I hear the boot beep, fans working normally, all seems good except my screen is black!!
How i manage to boot normally?? After many times that i take vga and memories on and off, sometime it will boot normally :p

Its not an OS issue, since it happened with both Windows 7 and 8.
I disassembled everything and put it back together -> same issue..

I need help to figure out what it is, Motherboard, VGA or PSU? I have no other issue on my computer, when it manages to boot, i get an uptime of 4 or 5 days without a single problem.

No overclock, i tried to load optimized defaults on BIOS..

My rig

Intel E8200
DFI Lanparty P45 T2RS
2*2GB ram (Geil)
Nvidia GTX 460 1GB
OCZ Vertex 2 60GB + 3 HDDs

Just installed windows XP Home Sp2 onto a PC.

**I did this twice because of this same issue so I formated and tried again same results***

Whats happening: Runs fine, reboot computer (powered off or a reboot) and start back up results in a black screen with no windows logo. Reboot computer it gives me the bad windows start up last known good, safe mode etc screen. If I choose start normally goes into windows and everything seems fine.

Tried: Re-Format
Latest Drivers, Sp3, Bios reset all no good. Also tried a kernal32.dll delete from recovery console with no results. Ideas? =)

Glad to hear someone has solved this problem. Unfortunately, I still experience problems while returning from sleep. It happens when the sleep is longer. There is no BSOD, just black screen and reboot.

Can I use this thread to continue solving my problem? If yes and if someone is willing to help, please tell me which commands should I apply to full memory dump in Windbg to clarify things? There is no way I will upload 3,7 GB.

Sometimes, when I sit down in front of my computer, with everything still on from the last session, the monitor will not go on. The little light on the bottom frame of the monitor will not go from an amber light to the green light. And the screen itself stays black. If things are working, all I have to do is move the mouse or hit the spacebar key. I have to reboot if it doesn't work. If you have a solution, please reply.

Any idewas?

Try running memtest along with other hardware tests like Prime95, if you get no errors from them then go to event viewer and see if any errors are there that relate to your problem and post them, also upload any dump files generated by the error.

Hi there-
When I restart my computer there is just a black screen and I can only access programs through Task Manager. I am using Avira AntiVir, have run several anti malware programs including McAfee Stinger and did find Trojans. Repaired but still the same thing-Black Screen. I believe it came from a Pirate's Bay torrent file.

I am running Vista Home Premium on a Dell XPS410.

Hey,
So I thought I had a problem with my graphics card or display as whenever the computer went to sleep the screen would not come back on unless I reboot. Since then I have done testing and the sleep mode works fine, but it was actually when I was trying to run WEI. It starts off okay but then goes to a black screen after a few moments and won't come back on.

System:
ASRock B75M
GTX 295
Samsung Syncmaster P2350
Antec HCG-900
8GB Corsair Vengeance
i5 3470

A:Run WEI and getting black screen until reboot?

Welcome to Seven Forums ryanphoto. Let me be sure I have this right. You are only having this issue when running the WEI assessment? If that is the case, does the WEI assessment start and appear to be running fine, and then at some point the screen blacks out? Can you tell at what point the assessment fails? Has the WEI score ever been set, or is it unrated?

Let's try something. Open an advanced command prompt:

Start> In search box type cmd> Right click on cmd.exe in results above and choose Run as administrator> When the command prompt opens type winsat formal -v> Enter

See if it will complete the full assessment. Report back how it goes.

I built my computer a few days ago and it runs perfectly well with a minor issue that it won't seem to want to use flash player.

regardless, the computer works perfectly well except for when I try to play FO3 and NV. the mouse will stutter and the game will freeze spontaneously. the game will downsize randomly and, finally, if I close and restart the game twice or three times the computer will blue screen.

none of these issues appear under any other circumstances. i don't know if it happens with other games, I haven't played many others yet.

Built my own computer, and for a while it ran fine, but now when I try to play League of Legends it will crash often. Sometimes the game freezes, and no method of input will change the screen until I hold down the power button. In this case my speakers emit a high pitched noise. Other times the screen will go black, and the computer will automatically restart. Other times I will get a blue screen with the error code 0x00007e. Please help this is getting very annoying!

I should note that it is not often that it crashes, sometimes it will happen twice in a short time, sometimes it will take days.

Probably hardware. Clean out dust in the system, if you have overclocked stop and revert to original settings. The link contains the most probable solution to your problem. IF the problem cannot be fixed i suggest lowering the vcore a tad tad bit.
Here are stresstests to possibly help rule a few things out. : Stresstests:
Ram : RAM - Test with Memtest86+
General hardware: Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 ( (Three pre-set configurations are available: Small FFTs and In-place FFTs, and Blend. Small and In-place modes primarily test the FPU and the caches of the CPU, whereas the Blend mode tests everything, including the memory.)
Graphics: Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark (Do the above Graphics test only with the latest drivers, and then Run it until the temperatures stop increasing; should be less then 10 minutes. If you don't see any crazy glitches or distortion on the screen, The test most likely passed. Take note if the Temperature gets too high, or you see Visual artifact - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia to stop the test.)
Good luck.

Besides being low, my initial search is that Fallout 3 doesn't like that video chipset. there may be "tweaks" to get it to play but it can be very buggy.

I can't see how the bios could get corrupted from shutdowns or dead batteries. Every instance of thid I have run into has been bad M/B, voltage regulator IC, video card, etc. Has anyone seen where this has happened and it was definitely a corrupted bios?

A:Black screen on reboot problem

While it is possible that a corrupted BIOS could cause this, the absolute LAST thing I would try is a BIOS flash.

Most likely these folks are confusing a BIOS reset (restoring the optimized default settings) with a BIOS flash (changing the BIOS current version to another version). There is very little possibility that the current version of a BIOS, previously working, would need to be replaced. It would just need to be reset.

And true BIOS corruption (unreadable data) is extremely rare. Once again I believe most folks are talking about bad or incorrect BIOS settings. People who overclock their PCs deal with this regularly and think little of it. They just reset and try again.

I have the "reboot and select proper boot device" when I turn on my computer. I put the restore disk that came with my computer in and started the computer.

When I choose "1. restore windows xp" I get "output A:\GHOSTERR.TXT ?"
When I answer "yes" a box pops up "cannot open GHOSTERRTXT = insert diskette"
I removed the restore disk and reinserted it, then it cycles back to the "output A:\GHOSTERR.TXT ?" if I answer "no" I get "invalid destination drive."

When I select "2. boot to command prompt from cd-rom" I get an "A:" prompt and I don't know what to do.

Please help, I would so appreciate it.
Thanks

I just bought a Samsung 250GB SSD to install WIndows 8 on as a fresh install with the intention of gradually setting it up and later deleting Windows 7. So I connected the SSD and it was recognized fine. I started the setup off the stick, it rebooted once and I got the boot menu. I clicked Windows 8 and a few seconds in it restarted (I missed the actual screens as I wasn't looking). So it rebooted again and I got the Windows 8 bootup screen with the little circles circling, but it goes black. No boot menu or anything. After 5 minutes, I rebooted and the same thing.

So I unplugged the SSD and rebooted. I got a boot menu this time saying the Win8 drive was missing, and hit F9 for alternate OS. I hot F9 and Windows 7 started to boot. Then I got chkdsk warnings. I let it scan my drives and it rebooted. I got the chkdsk warnings again so I just ignored and Windows 7 started.

Can anyone help me out here?

Also, assuming I get Windows 8 installed, can I unplugged my Raid array with Win7 and still start Windows 8 on the SSD or does the Win7 drive have the only boot menu.

Thanks guys

Well, I unplugged the HDMI cable from the back and tried booting up with the SSD drive attached and it worked minus the fact Win8 had to scan the SSD for errors. But it finished the install and it seems to work. I haven't tested my drivers etc yet.

I figured I give an update in case someone else had a similar problem.

If you failed the inbuilt hard drive test, it's most likely that your hard drive has failed.
If you're unsure of that, run one of the free diagnostics listed here: HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

I just bought a 250 gB hard drive today for $43 (US)
You'll also need recovery disks for your system. If you don't have them, here's a link for ordering them (US only): Order Recovery Discs (USA)

I ran the 32bit Vista RC1 DVD on boot and followed the on screen install setup. Formatted my 74GB Sata hard drive and I started installation. I got to the "Completing Installation" part and asked to restart, did that, loading windows screen booted up but after that my screen just goes black (monitor turned off) but I can still hear my hard drive working. I left it thinking that maybe it's still loading or installing for about 30 minutes and still nothing. So I turned it off and restarted and took me to the safe mode options.

I tried reinstalling again, maybe a bad first install but I still got the same result after. Anyone having or had the same problem before? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Windows 7 Starter 32-bit

OEM - netbook.

Netbook about 1-2 years old but I have a bad memory.
Never re-installed.

Made a thread about this in Hardware and devices, I also thought it might be my USB mouse causing problems because recently I have been getting the USB device is malfunctioned and well all the reboots seem to happen just minutes after my USB mouse is connected.

Filled in System Specs and have got the system report health and dump files.

Hope I did it right.

A:BSOD/Black Screen Reboot

You have an issue with MSE. I suspect it is caused by an incomplete Windows update.

First thing to try:

Quote:
Please go to your Maintenance Center and check the Windows Update status. Make sure you are up to date, do them one by one manually if needed.
For help or reset see: Windows Update - Reset

Second (if the above did not immediately solve..)
Re-install MSE. and, not sure if you are, but do not use other, possibly conflicting AV/Guard tooling.

The way you describe the problem, it sounds like you do not get dumps. Just in case that is because of incomplete settings, please check:

Quote:
To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header
Select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

Next, tryout, as a test, to have a screen in the taskmanager, showing mem usage on, when you plug in the USB. Does it spike and does paging seem to be able to handle it? Or is the spike the moment it reboots/blacks out?

You have a 1Gb netbook which could have some trouble especially if you use a lot of the Apple stuff on at the same time... Shouldn't crash of-course.. just trying to find a logical reason.

Nothing I can do except to reboot it. It could then be working fine for hours or mins and then it'll happen again. I run windows XP & keep it virus free with Kaspersky antivirus. I also do maintenance cleanup with , PC Rescue v4.0 & System Mechanic Professional 6. Both fans in the back run.

Any ideas?

Hello!

Sorry for the delay! You can see how busy we are! lol.

That is absolutely normal. Any large update or service pack on Vista or 7 will cause this.

It is nothing to worry about, and it will take a fair about of extra time on the final entry.

It may look a little scary, but it is fine!

Hi,  My P70 has had a blackscreen with the fans on and power light on. I do believe that the BIOS is dead after I pulled the plug on it updating the BIOS when it black screened during the update restart.  Draining the battery to reboot the BIOS hasn't worked. I read on a forum that depending on the motherboard, the BIOS can be rebooted by a dual BIOS, or by a BIOS USB/CD file.  Where can I download bios from a USB?  The biggest problem that needs to be solved is how to overcome the fact that the CPU doesn't boot and therefore I can't enter the motherboard BIOS.  Any ideas?

Since the last two days I am having a problem where when I restart my system it automatically gives me a black screen, nothing happens at all and I have to shut down my laptop by pressing the power button and then start it again.
Refreshing my PC is my last option as I shall lose a lot of apps and other stuff. Can someone offer me a work around?

Refreshing your Win 8 will not cause you to lose files. A reinstall will.

You can try a System Restore first, this too will not lose any user files.

A:BSOD playing Skyrim

1. Uninstall kaspersky internet security 2012: Removal tool for Kaspersky Lab products (uninstall completely before going to next step)

2. Install: Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

3. msconfig - boot faster and crash less.

1. Click on the Windows 7 start icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.

2. Type msconfig in the search box and then either press enter on your keyboard or double-click on the msconfig program that appears in the search results.

3. Windows 7 will launch Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.

4. This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary (Leave your Anti Virus Checked), others are simply a waste of RAM.

5. Click on the OK button.

6. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click on "Restart" and your computer will automatically reboot.

7. That's it! Your computer should now boot faster and crash less.

If you ever want to turn on any of the startup items you disabled with msconfig , just run msconfig again.

4. Scan for Spyware / Malware: Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.62 - FileHippo.com (Full Scan)

Wait for a Bsod, report back if you need further assistance.

Stop 0x124 is a hardware error.... if you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see if that helps ... if you continue to get BSOD here are some more things you may want to consider ..

Quote:
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
Synopsis:

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:
1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.

2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled. If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.

3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware. It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.

4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instructions. Their website should provide detailed instructions as to the brand and model-specific procedure.

5) Rarely, bugs in the OS may cause "false positive" 0x124 events where the hardware wasn't complaining but Windows thought otherwise (because of the bug). At the time of writing, Windows 7 is not known to suffer from any such defects, but it is nevertheless important to always keep Windows itself updated.

6) Attempt to (stress) test those hardware components which can be put through their paces artificially. The most obvious examples are the RAM and HDD(s). For the RAM, use the in-built memory diagnostics (run MDSCHED) or the 3rd-party memtest86 utility to run many hours worth of testing. For hard drives, check whether CHKDSK /R finds any problems on the drive(s), notably "bad sectors". Unreliable RAM, in particular, is deadly as far as software is concerned, and anything other than a 100% clear memory test result is cause for concern. Unfortunately, even a 100% clear result from the diagnostics utilities does not guarantee that the RAM is free from defects - only that none were encountered during the test passes.

7) As the last of the non-invasive troubleshooting steps, perform a "vanilla" reinstallation of Windows: just the OS itself without any additional applications, games, utilities, updates, or new drivers - NOTHING AT ALL that is not sourced from the Windows 7 disc. Should that fail to mitigate the 0x124 problem, jump to the next steps. Otherwise, if you run the "vanilla" installation long enough to convince yourself that not a single 0x124 crash has occurred, start installing updates and applications slowly, always pausing between successive additions long enough to get a feel for whether the machine is still free from 0x124 crashes. Should the crashing resume, obviously the very last software addition(s) may be somehow linked to the root cause.
If stop 0x124 errors persist despite the steps above, and the harware is under warranty, consider returning it and requesting a replacement which does not suffer periodic MCE events. Be aware that attempting the subsequent harware troubleshooting steps may, in some cases, void your warranty:
8) Clean and carefully remove any dust from the inside of the machine. Reseat all connectors and memory modules. Use a can of compressed air to clean out the RAM DIMM sockets as much as possible.

9) If all else fails, start removing items of hardware one-by-one in the hope that the culprit is something non-essential which can be removed. Obviously, this type of testing is a lot easier if you've got access to equivale... Read more

Hello to the community!!

This was a custom built PC (OS included- currently using) that I brought from an online seller last month.
I've been experiencing several BSODs for the last 2 weeks,. most of the BSODs occur after playing Skyrim though I just had another one right after booting when its just about to load the desktop.

Note:
I've intentionally disabled automatic updates (after SP1 update) since it slows down my already slow internet connection, I do however have SP1 installed. I also updated my graphics card driver and I installed Skyrim.

I am suspecting that my BSOD is being caused by AMD Catalyst 12.1 (since its a preview and not official WHQL drivers) but im also speculating it may be Anti Virus' too aggressive real time protection. I am attaching my minidump to the post.

The only clue i have (which i can't read, and yes this is the first time ive had ANY custom built PC ive made in 6 years since picking up this hobby) is the error code that windows 7 gives me upon rebooting and is as follows:

BCCode: 3b
BCP1: 00000000C0000005
BCP2: FFFFF88004BD9B7D
BCP3: 000000000000000
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1
please let me know (if you can) what program is causing this.

A:BSOD playing Skyrim

The blue screen was caused by DirectX, which could mean: 1. DirectX needs to be updated; 2. see Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX; or 3. your graphics card drivers are causing issues.

Dont use a BETA display driver.

Uninstall the installed display driver using DDU. Then install the CCC 14.4 WHQL only.

When done, Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark. Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us. Also let us know if you have experienced any crash/BSOD and/or artifacts during the test.

Also let us know if you experience any BSOD other than in skyrim.

I have recently started playing Skyrim, and have run into two BSOD so far. It happens seemingly randomly while playing. I am also using a lot of mods for the game; not sure if that's important. Can anyone help me out?

Any thoughts?

I tried running sfc /scannow in elevated command prompt, and it said Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. I attached the sfc scan log in a zip file.

Hi, I recently starting getting BSOD after playing about 30 mins of Fallout New Vegas. I've had over 50 hours of gameplay with no issue until a few days ago. Then I started playing Far Cry and the same thing happens about 30 minutes into the game.

One thing I've noticed is that it usually occurs around 30-40mins into the game. I have not tried running other games yet.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

It seems you have used KMSpico for activating Windows.
We don't give support to counterfeit installation/software.

Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless as it is not known what has been modified to your system.
A counterfeit installation contains heavily modified code which causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason, analyzing counterfeit systems is unreliable and most analysts won't try it.

My computer has been crashing lately, I know when it's about to crash because I can hear the hard drive (the main one with windows installed on) turn off and then turn back on (it sounds like it powers down and then powers back up) 2-3 times then it just crashes.

I've taken the hard drive out of the computer and put it back in and made sure the cables are in and not in the way of anything I.E the fan.

It doesn't just crash when I'm playing fallout 3 it happens randomly even when I'm not on the computer I.E I will go downstairs for a drink come back up and find out that the computer has crashed.

Other Information:
My computer was built in 2011 or 2012

Okay, I have an nVidia GeForce 6600 and running Win7 Ultimate.

When it works, it works fine. But if I leave the machine for more than 20 minutes, untouched, the display goes black and it locks the screen up, making me reboot.

Which leads to my second problem: About 7 times out of 10 in booting, the display will go black after about two seconds at every step. So after the initial memory screen, it goes black and when the password screen comes up, it goes black. I can put the password in and it will "cycle" to Windows but it stays black.

A:screen goes black locks up and reboot problems

The 20 minutes during which the system is idle, Windows turns off both the display and the hard disk. Go to start menu and type in "power", then click Power Options. Make a new plan or change the default one by clicking "change plan settings". Click "Change advanced power settings" and turn off these two problematic options, then see if there are any changes.

If not, try and get the newest drivers from nVidia if you don't have them already, 'cause this sounds like a GPU issue to me.

Hi,

I have been experiencing repetitive problems with Windows 8.1 going to black screen instead of the usual Windows 8.1 colourful login screen, after program(s) install requires a restart. It's no specific programs install doing this. It's very random. It has happened after iTunes, Windows Updates, and other programs as well. Not all reboots after an installation does this, but when it does happen, the only way I can get login screen is by using a previous working image created using Macrium Software. This is very frustrating as Windows 7 Pro don't show this issue. I have read on internet of few people experiencing this issue with Windows 8.1 Pro x64. Is there a reason why this happen, and a permanent fix for such an issue.

Thank You

I have a desktop running Windows XP. I rarely shut it down. Although it is running all I get is a black screen. I tried alt, control, delete to restart and also tried turning it off using the power switch both without success.

I then unplugged it from the wall. When I plug it back in I get the same black screen and the pc is still on but doesn't reboot. I've unplugged the cord from the wall and the back of the pc and left it unplugged overnight with the same result once I reconnect the cord and plug it back into the wall.

Any ideas on what might be causing this and possible fixes? I appreciate any help that you can offer.

Hello,I run Dual Boot XP and Vista and had a restore point problem in Vista. Please read following topic:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/132281/vista-restore-point/After applying the change in the XP registry from time to time (NOT every time) when running XP and requesting a restart generates a black screen and systems reboots without showing the usual "Saving your settings" and "Shutting down" windows. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

A:Requesting Xp Restart = Black Screen And Reboot

I'd suggest that you revert back to the original registry setting and test to see if that's the cause (if it doesn't do it anymore, then it's likely that the registry edit is causing it).

Could you please post a link to the article where you found the registry edit?

In general, a black screen boot on XP usually involves either a corruption in the boot sector of your drive, a failing hard drive, or bad/corrupt video drivers. I'd suggest visiting the website of the manufacturer of your hard drive and downloading a diagnostic utility from there (usually free). I'd also suggest downloading the latest version of your video drivers, uninstalling the current ones (in both Add/Remove Programs and Device Manager), then rebooting and installing the new one's.

Laptop Toshiba satellite C t It is the first time I encountered such a strange problem I simply used quot Windows USB DVD quot to burn ISO characters reboot, alt first scattered After with black screen Windows bit bit - Both versions contained in the same ISO file to a DVD disc and to a USB Flash Before installation I used quot MiniTool Partition Wizard quot ISO bootable version I burned it to CD And format all After first reboot, black screen with scattered alt characters drives So there is no OS installed after formatting I format After first reboot, black screen with scattered alt characters all drives to NFTS format I set one drive as primary and set it active So there is no problem with formatting My computer now is clear I started installing Windows from the USB Flash It it started normally and go through the steps up to the window titled quot Install Windows quot which contains this Text Installing Windows That's all the information we need right now Your computer will restart several times during installation Copying Windows files Expanding Windows files Installing features installing updates Completing installation This Window completed successfully and prepared to reboot After reboot it displays a black screen with scattered alt characters the characters has no specific order A blinking cursor after the last line Just reference to alt charachters That black screen with characters remain without any change I wait for minutes but no thing happened I press many keys but no response even Alt Ctrl Delete for reboot I tried booting and installing it again but from the DVD disc the same scenario happened Edit Update It seems that after the first reboot the screen shown is the same as the screen when choosing HDD SSD Toshiba MK GSXW instead of booting from USB or DVD Actually I don't know what HDD SSD Toshiba MK GSXW means Thanks

Follow these steps to get get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
burning a new official Win7 ISO w/SP1 to DVD or writing to flash stick using ISO and tool provided.

If it fails again following the steps to delete all partitions and create new or let installer do it for you by clicking Next to start install, then wipe the HD before trying again with Diskpart Clean Command

I have spent many hours the past week trying unsucessfully to install Windows Vista I have downloaded and installed all the most recent drivers and BIOS updates for all of my hardware I have run the Vista Upgrade Advisor and it says that my system should be good to go and that there are no serious issues The only item on the quot Task List quot is to download Vista drivers for a wireless networking adapter I have in the system to be installed after I have tried to do an upgrade from Windows XP and a Full Install of Vista with the same results I start the install and everything goes smoothly installer unpacking files and getting ready for installation until right after the first reboot The system restarts and tries to boot into Vista Black Vista - - Screen First Restart/Reboot to finish the installation but after the first screen with the green progress bar my screen goes black and Vista - Black Screen - First Restart/Reboot nothing happens after that I have tried leaving it running for over an hour in hopes that something was still Vista - Black Screen - First Restart/Reboot going on There doesn t seem to be any HD activity going on So I assume there is some sort of driver Vista - Black Screen - First Restart/Reboot issue with my hardware of something causuing problems I have tried to boot Vista into Safe Mode but the load stops on the file quot disks sys quot and basically freezes there I have tried to remove all unnecessary hardware from the system Sound Card Fire Wire card Networking adapters and then re-running the installer with no success I have tried to install and old Video Card and re-run the installer but got no better results At this point I have spent over hours playing around with Vista and have not been able to get past this issue No matter what I try it stops in the same exact spot The only difference now is that it freezes with the progress bar still on the screen instead of going to a quot Black Screen quot Any ideas of anything else I could try Here are my System Specs AMD Barton CPU MSI K N MS- Mobo nVidia geForce gt gigs of Memory Plenty of free Hard Drive space nbsp

I tried updating the video driver and it stills occurs. Looking for a solution for this issue. The system ran great until a about three months ago.

A:Black screen & system reboot at times

Can you revert to an earlier driver, say from 4 months ago?

Welcome to the forums Mfunn, I had a look through your files and a few thigs strike me right off the bat, First and fore most please uninstall daemon tools then download and run this tool:

DuplexSecure - Downloads

When the tool runs if the uninstall box is grayed out you are done and you can close out of the window, if not click uninstall and let the tool do its work. Do not click the install button as this will install a driver known to cause BSODs on to your computer.

Next please check and see if you can find any updates for your Graphics card driver you can check the manufacturere website for them: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx
Last please see if you can find updates for your Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
which can be found here: Marvell - Support

Hi, I've recently encountered a BSOD while playing Skyrim, the error is as follows: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (cdd.dll) Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

These devices have problems in Device Manager:

Insyde Airplane Mode HID Mini-Driver ACPI\PNPC000\1 This device cannot start.

Not Available PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_5289&SUBSYS_35371558&REV_01\4&15592284&0&00E3 The drivers for this device are not installed.

Please download/install the latest, Win8.1 compatible driver for the first device from the manufacturer's website. The second device is most likely your Realtek PCIE CardReader (it is one of the first 3 PCIe drivers available from here: Realtek Try them all - one will work.)

Lot's of Live Kernel Events in the WER section of MSINFO32. This may hint at a hardware problem. Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Most of the memory dumps blame your Intel graphics drivers.
Please:
- download a fresh copy of the latest, Win8.1 compatible Intel graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website
- uninstall the current Intel graphics drivers from your system
- install the freshly downloaded Intel graphics drivers
- monitor for further BSOD's

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
