I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

orignally had hang up issues, then had freezing issues with vertical lines appearing on screen. Now outright freezes or has BSOD. Seems to be getting much worse

I'm running a compaq desktop, and I have a scanner that will only work with the only available drivers if I change the port mode to the older EPP, which seems to be problem free. In CMOS, it says it is ECP+EPP, though the scanner still isn't found. I found the attached for changing it..when I run SETPORT.exe it tells me that EPP is not supported and that I must change the I/O settings. COMPAQ.txt talks of changing autoexec.bat, but I do not believe XP uses this anymore, so this is the closest I've gotten to solving the problem, yet I cannot figure it out..please help!

A:Does Older Hardware Not Support GPT?

You cannot install Windows OS on a GPT initialized drive unless your motherboard supports new UEFI Bios, and you are installing Windows 8.0 or 8.1. Which yours does not support. You can install a GPT initialized drive as a storage drive, just not as a bootable Windows drive.
A 2TB drive does not need to be Initialized GPT, it still can be MBR and Formatted NTFS. Anything larger the 2.2TB would need to be Initialized GPT.
According to your specs, you should be able to instal 8GB or RAM if you are running a Windows 64 bit OS

I want to play Steam games on my PC but I'm not sure if I have a good enough video processor. The PC is just using the integrated Intel chip. I tried looking on HP for compatible cards, but am finding various versions of each one, and I'm not sure which are compatible or if my power supply is enough; I can't even figure out how to see how many watts the power supply is or which cards will work with it. I'm unable to find something on HP to scan the hardware, and the specsheet just shows all variations of the PC.

Ok here is the senairo. The trouble began with sleep mode. For some unknown reason out of the blue. No settings had been changed in power options or in profiles. The system began to enter sleep mode and at a normal frequency. After a few days it begun to do it sooner, then it was going into sleep mode about every 10 seconds. Aquired a new battery a 12volt for longer lasting life. after installing the battery still had the problem. Now using external monitor set in clone view. Intel embeded graphics can see external, but can only see a faint image of the laptop when switched onto the laptop screen. Very Frustrating any suggestions?

Sounds like you probably need a BIOS update. What system is that? It has to be pretty old and probably not worth the trouble. What O/S is it? Older version of Windows didn't recognize drives over certain capacties and it was pretty small.

I bought a used Compaq Armada 7710MT laptop. The seller gave me the login password -- all was well.

Then I decided to reload Windows NT to eliminate the network setup and operate the laptop "stand-alone."

Bad idea! It changed the login! So-o-o, I went into the bios setup and reset the password -- all was well again.

Did a few setup changes, very minor.

Then I shut down.

When I tried to boot up again, well -- all was not well!! I got a "power-on password" request. I went to a Compaq site and it notes that I must remove the case and turn the jumper switch off, and back on, to remedy (delete) the "power-on password" request.

H-e-l-p! Isn't there a quickie way to address this problem???

Thanks.

Yesterday one of my computers began locking up while playing WoW It's freeze up and lots of random colored dots would appear about the screen I rebooted the computer and it happened again Then it began to happen even in Windows without doing anything but having the computer on After a few more crashes I found that the text and graphics on the startup hardware? - BSOD 7 Windows screens BIOS were garbled as well I thought maybe it's a RAM issue so I removed three of the four RAM sticks and left just one same issue So I removed that one and put in another of the RAM sticks which is of the same specs but a different brand exact same issue At this point I surmised that the video card memory might be corrupted We removed the GT MB that was in it and went and bought a GTS GB and tossed it in The BIOS screens were no longer garbled though the computer gave a quot BOOK DISK FAILURE quot error when trying to boot I used to have this problem on my main machine and oddly enough I could place either the Vista disc or Windows disc in the DVD drive and it boots fine WITHOUT booting from disc which makes no sense BSOD Windows 7 - hardware? to me but works I performed a startup repair and that didn't fix it but leaving the disc in the drive resolved the problem entirely as it had in the past on my main machine This method worked to get past the boot disk failure error I got into Windows however only a few minutes later it began to BSOD randomly and frequently I updated the NVIDIA drivers to no avail I reverted to standard MS video drivers also no go I ran the Windows built-in memory test and it came back clean with no errors I also uninstalled Avast Antivirus to ensure that wasn't interfering with the memory while I work through this A review of the memory dumps from the crashes showed many culprits a keyboard driver ntfs system file various nvidia drivers There was no consistency in the dump files that would lead me to a specific piece of software or hardware so at this point I thought it has to be memory I figure data is trying to write to some part of the memory and then causing a crash when it gets to a corrupt part I took out two sticks of RAM and left the other two in running in dual-channel mode The computer started up fine and I launched WoW and ran it all night without any problems I got in and used it this morning for a few minutes before work also no problems Now it's apparently exhibiting the same issues again though with less frequency my bf is at home while I'm still at work Tonight I will try the other two sticks of RAM in place of these two and see what happens During these BSODs and subsequent restarts I noticed a couple oddities on two occasions the computer would not post and instead gave a long beep followed by two short beeps The comp has a Pheonix BIOS and everything I read about Pheonix BIOS stop codes didn't appear to match the tone I heard at all yet the IBM standard post code set as well as other types of BIOS consistently said a long beep with two short beeps is a VGA problem This is on a brand new card though many times the computer would get to the point where it's supposed to bring up the Windows splash screen before it actually gets into Windows and instead quickly blip a blue screen and then reboot itself The next startup would then say it didn't shut down properly and recommend that I perform a startup repair which I would decline and the computer would proceed to load into Windows just fine Anyone have an idea of the possible culprit I'm curious if a failing motherboard or PSU could cause this type of issue Is the RAM still the likely offender Could drivers be the sole cause of this Could a faulty PSU corrupt RAM and VRAM thus ruining my previous video card and RAM at coincidentally the same time Any thoughts on which direction I should take this are appreciated Specs from memory Asus M N-SLI Deluxe AMD AthlonXP GB RAM x GB OCZ x GB Corsair all w identical specs and I think PC but can't remember for sure Therm... That's a bad sign of Processor Failure, fix the first and then see if that fixes it, otherwise go new PC shopping, Processors cost almost 1/3rd the cost of a new computer if it's a decent Processor.

The evening of Wednesday th July I was playing World of Warcraft on my Windows XP Home Edition laptop when the graphics froze the sound glitched then I got a BSOD for about half a second before the screen went black I rebooted but got another BSOD I restarted the computer again got to the login screen typed the first character of my password and the screen went black Over the next few attempts BSOD Windows XP on hardware - possibly failure I determined that generally using the mouse was ok but sometimes the screen hung Attempting to type in my password invariably resulted in either a hang or the screen going black The following morning once the laptop had cooled down I was able to log in I BSOD on Windows XP - possibly hardware failure shut the lid and left it That evening I was able to log on and played World of BSOD on Windows XP - possibly hardware failure Warcraft very briefly without trouble This morning I logged on and had been playing World of Warcraft for perhaps minutes when I got another BSOD Same routine as before I left the computer for a few hours then logged on without trouble downloaded the tools BSOD on Windows XP - possibly hardware failure to capture system issues as listed at World of Warcraft crash destroyed operating system While running the tool I noticed it reporting two mini-dumps and when I checked them they were both from the Wednesday night None from a few hours before While the tool was still running I got another BSOD Where do I go from here I can't get the tool to run to completion without getting a BSOD I may be able to get the minidumps off the computer and separately extract other information bit by bit too It'll take ages as I'll have to allow perhaps an hour between each attempt and I have a life so can't spend all day doing this Any ideas I suspect hardware failure as I hadn't updated any software or drivers recently or changed any software settings It would be nice if I copuld identify what has failed before I take the laptop for a very expensive repair

A:BSOD on Windows XP - possibly hardware failure

You could test the hard drive yourself, that would be a good starting point.
You'll need to download the ISO CD-image from the drive maker's website, create a CD from that ISO file, then boot your laptop from it and run the test.

First determine what brand the drive is, then download the appropriate ISO file from the manufacturer. The links are at the top of this page: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

PS: Don't download the Windows version of the testing software because that will be of no use to you if Windows is currently unstable or won't run properly.
You need to download the version for DOS which is supplied as an ISO file.

A:Windows Vista 64 Bit Hardware BSOD Nightmare

Hi mate.

I did some googleing and found some clues.

The 0x9c error seems to be related to a bug in hardware (since you have changed your RAM, maybe your CPU is having troubles?)
However I could only find stopreasons for 32bit CPU's and Itanium CPU's.

On the 0x124 error I found some info on (yet again) hardware error and it is recommended to try updating all i\o drivers (videocard, soundcard, chipset, etc)

Good luck, see if you can write down any more specific bluescreens.

current hardware issue : intel(R) 82567LF-2 Gigabit Network Connection

After a proper shutdown and some hours of rest for the CPU, i turned it on, and found that my LAN(Wired) connection was not connected upon startup, there's no PC activity on the modem itself.

Modem is working fine, Eternet cable is working fine. i had used the same modem and cable for my laptop, internet runs fine, there's PC activity.

this would mean that the problem for my no access for LAN connection, would be hardware issue in the CPU itself. upon opening device manager, intel(R) 82567LF-2 Gigabit Network Connection seems not abled to function as per normal, a note 'Device is not working properly.' i tried using window's troubleshooter to resolve the issue. issue resolved as stated, but there's still no access to internet through lan connection. even it says 'Device is working properly'.

Good diagnosis. This crash was caused by your e1y62x64.sys
which is part of your Intel network driver. I would download a fresh copy and install it.

I would also run a system file check to verify and repair your system files too do that type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (not the space between sfc and ".")

If you are overclocking stop.

Hi,

I'm new to this sort of thing so please bear with me. I have a Windows 7 64bit computer and I keep getting a BSOD. The dumps all tell me that I have a hardware error but I can't isolate it. I have swapped out my RAM chips, disabled my NIC, swapped out my video cards and I keep getting the same error. Attached is my analysis from the Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Tool. Let me know if you need anything else?

A:BSOD - Windows 7 64bit - Hardware Error 124

Welcome!

Have you tested your hard drive? Go to the manufacturer's site and download their advanced diagnostic tools.

Also, are you overclocking? If so, stop, and see if the problem goes away. If you are running RAID, try updating the drivers.

Good luck!

Been having problems with this new ITX system. Changed motherboard 4 times, changed CPU once. In order to keep it short, I won't elaborate on the problems happened in the last 3 times.

This time around, I get 3 BSODs within a day after installing new motherboard and freshly installed Windows 7 64-bit. The third BSOD happened while running the dump & system collection app.

The necessary files are attached. Additional info below:

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x64
- Reinstalled OS on the system
- OEM version of Windows 7 (disc given)
- Age of hardware: Less than a month (motherboard is only one-day old)
- Age of OS: Less than one-day old

Please help to shed some light on what's wrong.

Thank you very much.

Cheers,
Lorika

A:BSOD - Fresh Hardware & Windows 7 Installation

Hi,

What Model PSU are you using?

The dump files do not point to a 3rd party driver as a probable cause, meaning that it is either a "hidden" driver or hardware. As your drivers look ok, and you have re-installed several times I suspect hardware on this one.

Run a memtest yet?

Quote:
Memtest - Instructions:

Download the ISO (or the .exe for USB drives) from here Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Then (if you have chosen the ISO) burn the ISO using IsoRecorder: ISO Recorder v3 Download (How to use IsoRecorder)

Boot from the CD/USB and run the test (at least 7 passes per test) with only one stick of RAM in place at a time.

It is a time consuming process but it is the only way to be sure it isn't a RAM fault.

For your final test, run the test with all the RAM in place.

Reventon

Hey this is my first time posting here but I'm familiar with BSOD's fault. hardware during Windows bootup, suspecting forums and such Well I might as well describe my problem I have a HP Pavilion dv ca laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium CPU AMD Turion X GHz Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce Go M RAM Gb DDR Well Windows BSOD's during bootup, suspecting hardware fault. this all started out a few weeks ago I was busy doing my normal stuff browsing the web talking to my friends on Skype and listening to music in iTunes when I get a notification for an update to bring iTunes up to I did the update and the process went smoothly But then things started to go horribly wrong for me During the reboot sequence Vista blue screened and went into autorestart Unfortunately I was unable to make out what the message said During POST everything was fine but when Vista tried to boot up I chose start Windows Normally when it gave me the option to it blue screened yet again during this bootup and restarted So in a rut I quickly hit f and managed to get into boot options Naturally I tried to get into safe mode BUT that's when things started to get weird It tried to boot but I got absolutely no GUI at all Explorer exe somehow didn't load up properly or anything My mouse was working as the pointer was up and I could move it around and everything but behind it was just a black screen Nothing else at all Frustrated I hard rebooted and did a system restore BUT during the restore I chose a restore point that was set the day before it gave me a message saying that the restore point could not be used please use another one That was an odd one So I fiddled around with the different restore points until I found a good one that was set before the iTunes install But then this is when things got really weird Windows finally managed to boot properly and I could get into my desktop But then I noticed that the internet wasn't connecting I tried to connect manually but Windows kept saying that the dependency group service could not be started This was getting a little odd So I tried to start it manually by going into My Computer BUT when I tried to do that Windows told me that it couldn't start it up at all and then afterwards I got BSOD' yet again Frustrated and going through a horrible anxiety attack my schoolwork and personal files are on this laptop here and I'm not one for backing up on a regular basis I tried doing another system restore THIS time it seemed to have worked out ok cause now the services had managed to get working again I'm typing this up right now on said laptop because everything's stable at the moment However I'm suspecting that Windows won't boot up right if I do a restart and go through the whole cycle yet again leaving me in an anxious mess Since I have no idea where the BSOD report dump is I checked the reliability monitor and it gave me this http i photobucket com albums a ityReport jpg - Part http i photobucket com albums a ityReport jpg - Part http i photobucket com albums a ityReport jpg - Part http i photobucket com albums a ityReport jpg - Part So finally my question is what just happened How did iTunes do this DID iTunes do this Is my computer still properly stable Is a Vista reinstall in my future I need some help making sense out of my situation I appreciate you guys taking the time to read this

A:Windows BSOD's during bootup, suspecting hardware fault.

UPDATE: A friend of mine that's CompTIA A+ Certified took a look at the computer finally and ran some memtests; turns out that there was a bad stick of RAM that was doing this. I'm grabbing another 1 gig stick during the weekend, so that'll be fine now.

This topic can now be closed. :)

Hi, I just updated all of my computers hardware.

Now I have:

ASUS M2a VA motherboard
AMD XP 64 5000+ processor
Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX
2gb ram

When I power on my computer, everything goes fine. It takes me to the screen where it says that Windows closed abnormally, bla bla bla, choose safe mode, last known good config, etc.

When I choose any of these, it blinks the Windows loading screen, and then blinks what appears to be a blue screen of death, then the computer restarts.

What's the problem? I have Windows XP Professional installed. I would REALLY not want to do a format and reinstall of everything if possible. Do I need Windows XP professional 64 or something?

A:BSOD after hardware update right after the Windows loading screen

It could be a hard drive issue. If it's looping then the hard drive could have failed or be failing. Find out the manufacturer of the hard drive and go to their web site and download the tests. Then create a boot able CD and boot off it and run the tests.

MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

systeminfo:
Please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "systeminfo.exe >%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the syteminfo.txt file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .txt file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

This is my third time trying to post this lost it from it auto-logging me out So if I BSOD Boot 0x000007B on Hardware New Windows 7 error seem abrupt and scattered sorry My problem is that when I boot up my system and Windows starts to load it gives me this BSOD This started happening after I added new parts will describe below I listed my old rig's parts in my profile but here's an overview My old rig is a HP Pavilion p w HP Support document - HP Support Center in a Apevia X-Sniper case with a nVidia GeForce GTX graphics card and a Corsair W PSU My new rig was the New Hardware BSOD on Windows 7 Boot error 0x000007B old rig except I replaced the mobo Ram and CPU to mobo ASRock Z Pro LGA New Hardware BSOD on Windows 7 Boot error 0x000007B Intel Z HDMI SATA Gb s USB ATX Intel Motherboard CPU Intel Core i - Ivy Bridge Dual-Core GHz LGA W BX I Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics RAM Team Xtreme GB x GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR PC Desktop Memory Model TXD G HC QDC My Mobo just came back from RMA because it was DOA They just gave me a new one so I got to start it up and it was doing well until it got to booting Windows Two of the dots of the logo appear then it BSODs and restarts Nothing I've tried so far has helped I already tired all options in Startup Repair except restoring it to factory settings I have too many programs that I can not afford losing especially those it would be almost impossible to find again I've done a system Restore For some reason all of my restore points were gone except one that was dated to minutes New Hardware BSOD on Windows 7 Boot error 0x000007B after the first BSoD I've run a chkdsk to look for anything in the harddrive and I tried to start it in safe mode got the same error I tried removing all unncessisary hardware I E graphics card and all USB devices like keyboard and mouse and I tried running with stick of RAM then swapped to the other stick of RAM When I set up the harddrive the distance from where it would sit and where the SATA ports were was too long for the original SATA cable so I had to try the SATA cable I tried the SATA cable plugged into the SATA and SATA ports on the motherboard and I moved the harddrive onto the table next to the case so it could reach the ports using the shorter SATA cable and I tried it in both the SATA and SATA ports as well I did other things too but i can't even remember them at this point I post them when they come back to me Anyways when I looked up the error most of what I found suggested the HDD was damaged had a virus or had bad partitions I know for sure that is not the case because I am using it right now back in my old rig Which is where I am posting from This leads me to beleive it might be an issue with one of my new parts or more likely their drivers I can't test my mobo RAM or CPU without the other new parts because none of them are compatible with their old counterparts in my new rig Also I do not have access to a PC that is compatible with any of my new or old parts to test them on Sorry again if I was all over the place or if I missed something I'm extremely tired atm with this system and with typing this again I'm pretty sure I have everything hooked up correctly but if you want I can take pictures just in case Also I saw you have to include that file thingy in the attachments so obviously that was run on my OLD rig seeing as I can't get close enough in my new rig to run something like that Thanks in advance for your help

Hey there,

Ive been having blue screens for quite a while now and been trying to fix them myself but Ive decided it might be easier with some assistance.

Ive ran memtest86+ for a whole day and found no errors.
I ran prime95 and furmark for a couple of hours with no errors.

Ive also tried using Driver Verifier a long while back and removed any drivers that i saw causing problems but it still persisted. I was going to try Driver Verifier again but while i do that i thought it'd be wise to see if anyone can see something obvious or offer some assistance.

My debug file is attached.

Thanks.

A:BSOD on older laptop

Hi .

Is the system time accurately reflected in the BIOS?

Among the errors you list, I see two indicating NTFS problems.

The first thing I would try is run chkdsk /r command.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (space between k and /) and hit Enter.

Type Y in response to onscreen query and hit Enter.

Reboot the system, the command will execute and then boot into XP on completion.

If any error messages appear during command processing or it is unable to complete...please write down message and post here.

Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Open the Command Prompt and type in bootrec /fixboot.  Please notice the space between the bootrec and the /fixboot.  Now press Enter.

Reboot to see if this resolves the issue.

NOTE: I have severe eye problems. If I do not respond to your postings, please PM another staff member for assistance.

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests (located at this link: Hardware Diagnostics ). They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

Quote:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
Hard Drive Diagnostics (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Resources (read the details at the link)
There are also free, bootable antivirus disks at this link: Free Online AntiMalware Resources - Bootable Disks

No Windows Updates since installing SP1. Please get all available Windows Updates (there's 60-70 available AFAIK).

Wireless USB network device: D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter(rev.B)
Here's my rant about these devices:

Quote:

I do not recommend using wireless USB devices.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 - and using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

DO NOT use this device if you cannot find Win7 drivers for it!!!

This looks very, very similar to another topic under another name in another forum (Windows Answers). I even posted links to the updated chipset drivers for you there.

Welcome to SF ccwtech .

Usually I would like to have more than one dump file so manually check the minidump folder.

Code:
C:\Windows\minidump
If dump files are present in that folder copy them to the Desktop, zip and upload in your next post.

As for the dump files uploaded;
The bug check is 0x9F which is DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE that happens in
transitions between power states most commonly S0 (ON state) > S3 (Sleep state)
or vice-versa. You can read more HERE.

The most common cause is a device driver but sometimes it's the hardware itself
that is at fault.

Recently, my system has begun getting various blue screens. They've said many things, but the two most notable are "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". These started happening earlier this week, and so I installed a fresh version of windows, but they continued. I read somewhere that it could be an issue with RAM, but I did the Windows Memory Diagnostic test and it said there were no errors, although I also read this test isn't the most thorough. Any help is appreciated.

Hello After a miserable experience with a pre-built computer having a plethora of BSOD's and freezes that could not be diagnosed I built a new computer about a week ago Everything in it is brand new and checked for compatibility except the Graphics Card which is being replaced with the once it releases The one currently in it is an old GTX EVGA SC Anyways it's been fine and dandy I've been new VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR computer GPU. on BSOD older with monitoring all temps voltages and everything is going alright except I encountered my first BSOD today and it terrified me not again What I was doing at the time of the BSOD was opening Overwatch for the first time after a new patch and also opening EVGA Precision X I use the EVGA fan profile for Overwatch because it's a GPU killer My screen froze and the feeling I know all too well perked up yep another Blue Screen The error identifier was VIDEO SCHEDULER INTERNAL ERROR Which I've determined is commonly related to GPU driver issues however I thought I'd be extra careful while I'm in my day return period and see if this is VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR BSOD on new computer with older GPU. an actual VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR BSOD on new computer with older GPU. issue It appears that the issue was caused by DirectX I've uploaded the debugging files as asked and have attached them below Is this something to be concerned about or is it likely just a buggy driver release some weird interaction caused by VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR BSOD on new computer with older GPU. I keep getting BSODs after a new install of a SIIG PCIe SATA adapter card. It only crashes when I run a CrystalMark or AS-SSD bench on the SSD connected to the new PCIe SATA card ports. I suspect it’s the driver, which is an old Microsoft driver from 2006 that W7 installed.

And when I try to install the latest SIIG driver, W7 ignores and states that the current (older) driver (2006) is the best driver. Can anyone tell from the BSOD screen whether it’s likely the older driver is causing the crash, before having to inspect the mini-dump or run 7Forum Sys Diagnostic?

And secondly, is there a way to force the latest SIIG driver to over-ride W7 and replace the old driver that W7 mistakenly thinks is the best one? Simply pointing the "Driver Updater" to the new driver location doesn’t seem to work.

A:Is Older driver causing BSOD? How to fix?

Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont forget to upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
It is important as we need to check the storage environment in depth.

Plus, Ataport.sys is most vulnerable to a special type of malware, called rootkit. Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs.
Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
Windows Defender Offline

Greeting.

I keep getting the BSOD described above on some of the old game I recently purchase on STEAM

The list of game
Star Wars Republic CommandoVampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines

WhoCrashes V5.51 Stated that the system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.

The problem come from DirectX Graphics MMS

My O.S is Windows 10 Pro 64bit and I just reinstalling my graphic driver and run a memory test yesterday and no error detected.

A:dxgmms1.sys BSOD on older game (2006 and below)

Hi Faiz5595,

The games you mention are released 10-11 years ago.
My guess is that those games aren't updated anymore and thus do not support Windows 10.

If the games have been updated since the release of Windows 10, please let me know and I'll take a look at the zip for you

I'm running on a Dell Dimension 4600 and want to burn a couple cds. I tried downloading a bunch of different burning software, but my drive was outdated every time. I was able to burn before, about a year or so ago. I've tried older versions of various software, but no luck.

At work I have a PC w/an Athlon XP 1700 chip, 256 meg of ram, and a Radeon AGP w/64 meg memory video card runing Win XP Pro. So my gaming choices are somewhat limited. I've already played Quake 2 and Half-Life (and Opposing Force & Blue Shift). I like playing the FPS style games (single-player mode). So I'm wondering:

Is Counter-Strike single player or only multi-player? Is it free if I own Half-Life?

Is there a site that would list FPS games by release date year to year? Since I know Half-Life was released around 98, I could look for other games released around then that would probably run ok on my system.

Any suggestions for good FPS games that would run on my system would be appreciated. I'm looking into some of the Star-Wars games, also Halo, and Unreal seem to have good reps and might run ok.

Thanks much,
Harold

I have looked at your mainboard for supported GPU's and I couldn't find the AMD R9 380 in the list.

So this is getting to the point where if I leave my computer on all night (and most nights I do) I am not surprised anymore waking up to a blue screen. I really haven't changed anything on the computer for a while now. Now it's just getting out of control. Makes it hard to run the media server off of my computer if it keeps crashing.

If you guys could help shine some lights on this that would be great. My bet goes out to an hardware issue. I've tried running memtest but must have done something wrong as I let it sit over night but it didn't do anything.

Hope this is all the info y'alls need.

Thank you.

A:BSOD 0x0000007A - Older home build computer.

Hi Chucky. (Ahaa, I like it, reminds me of the Child's Play movies. :P)

Your latest (27th) crash dump appears to blame the crash on your hard disk hardware:

Code:
ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000185 - The I/O device reported an I/O error.

DISK_HARDWARE_ERROR: There was error with disk hardware
An almost "dead" hard disk or a hard disk that is failing would likely cause an I/O device error, however your dump also mentions memory corruption. This could mean (could) that both your hard disk and memory are to blame, but may not be significantly caused by memory. I'd recommend that you take your memory into consideration that it may also be defective and I'd recommend you trying to swap both memory and hard disk. I'm sure you know that purchasing hard disks second-hand is never a good idea as if they're "resold" you don't know what it's history is. For example, past failures etc.

I'd suggest that you backup your data (or clone your hard disk IF you can) and purchase a new hard disk and if possible some new sticks of RAM too.

Some older parts is what I meant to include in the title Using option in BSOD posting instructions I've attached while once BSOD gaming, older desktop. some on twice Brand build, new the requested file This is a new build Almost a week old though it uses some older parts from a previous build RAM and storage to be specific and in that time I've had three BSOD crashes The latest of which was about minutes ago while on the desktop BSOD twice while gaming, once on desktop. Brand new build, some older Two BSOD's happened while playing games one last night with Wasteland attempting to experiment with Nvidia's new dynamic super resolution feature in the drivers and another several days ago while playing another game I run the program MSI Afterburner as a monitoring tool so that I can take a peek at on my second monitor while I game and keep an eye on my machines performance I suspect Afterburner may be the issue however I cannot say for sure Any information that could point me in the right direction would be very much appreciated

A:BSOD twice while gaming, once on desktop. Brand new build, some older

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
At least, dont let Killer Network manager to start with windows.

Let us know for any further BSOD.

Symptoms are that at start-up the system crashed. Turning the computer on by the on/off button, plug pulling or mains recycle had no effect. Strangley, what did work was to remove the power plug from the monitor and then reinsert it (the plug was secure before the removal and reinsertion.

SFDiagnostic file is attached, but if that is defective SF Debug files are available too.

Can you help, please?

That zip file is incomplete. Try this instead:

1. Download this .BAT file to your desktop
2. Right-click the .BAT file and 'Run as Administrator'
3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

A:Single BSOD, similar circumstances to an older thread, driver help?

Sorry about the late reply, sometimes we miss threads.

A normal functioning computer should never have BSODs.
Put it this way, a bugcheck means Windows has found a critical fault where it cannot continue functioning otherwise data can be damaged.

As for the Intel Management issues I recommend you create a restore point first to avoid further issues arising if you accidentally install the wrong thing (Or I suggest the wrong thing by mistake), so it's better to be safe than sorry.

   Warning

Before changing drivers, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point Manually before altering drivers.

Now that a restore point has been made I suggets you go here and update your Intel Management Engine Interface driver.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...agement+engine

Can you also please upload the dump files that should have been created by the bugcheck.
They're located in either two places, it depends on your configuration.
C:/Windows/minidump or
C:/Windows/memory.dmp

If it's located in minidump then copy it to the desktop and then right click it and zip it up, upload that in your next reply.
If it's located in Windows as memory.dmp then copy it to the desktop and then right click it and zip it up, now you will need to upload it to something like OneDrive as it's too large to upload directly to Seven Forums.
Post the link of the site you uploaded it to here.

Hi guys,

Dell Studio Laptop
Windows 7 64bit

Intel Core 2 Duo

An irregular BSOD, about once a month, always caused by ntoskrnl.exe - often when hibernating, but sometimes in the middle of something.

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

Kept windows up-to-date as far as I know!

Attached is the SF report.

Any suggestions on how to fix much appreciated!

Thanks,

A:irregular BSOD on older Dell Laptop. error 0x0000009f and 0x0000001a

Hello timsparks, Welcome to SF

First off if your OCing in anyway stop, return everything to stock settings for the purposes of testing

If you havent already, fill in your system specs so we know what we are dealing with
System Info - See Your System Specs

Make sure you have read the guide on asking for help with BSOD so you know what we need
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html
And if necessary set your machine to create minidumps (Method 2 Step 2 is easiest IMO)
Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Run some scans to check against virus or infection
Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
Windows Defender Offline

Run some basic hardware tests
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Disk Check (windows based check)
Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure (bootable disk check)

Nothing conclusive in the dump files i would start with the virus checks and some hardware tests see how you get on
What is the keytweak program you have installed ?

Ok I got my newer laptop in the mail today, I was happy seeing that when I plugged it in the only error i got was a file missing from windows. figured easy fix...not! i put my new harddrive in out of my old laptop and it popped right on to a blue screen of death. I figured ok its the memory, processor, harddrive. I replace the cpu, memory and still got the same error. I then ran the harddrive test in the bios and it said harddrive failed, i don't see how this can be as it worked fine in the other laptop, i then place another harddrive in the slot and it fail to. I know 2 harddrives aren't bad. Does anyone have any ideas on how to cure this? I was wondering if maybe a bios update would cure it, or if i am **** out of luck and need a new motherboard??

You cannot swap hard drives unless they are from identical laptops. Exact make and model. Try booting into the recovery screen and reformat and reinstall the operating system. This is called a "destructive recovery"

Hi everyone,

It seems like the BSOD is chasing me...

This time it's about my own laptop.

Its a Compaq cq40 and It's been acting very strange since a couple of weeks.

Suddenly a BSOD will come up and restar my computer.... but I can still use it...

I'd like to fix it before trying to format the entire disc....

I'm posting the dump files...

Thanks in advance!

A:BSOD Compaq cq40

It seems like you may have bad memory and reinstalling windows will not fix this issue.
What you should try to do is get a copy of MemTest.

http://www.memtest86.com/

Burn it to a CD and check your RAM. Let it test about 3 times, as if it passed 100% once it may not be an accurate result!

Post back if you need more help or if you are ready to continue.

I'm not sure of what to really ask, so let me just say what the message is that I keep getting!
A window, that says you have 21 drivers missing  the performance of the screen is very poor at times,

it takes over 5 minutes for my screen to come up, I can be on a site, and it will freeze up or just take me to another site,  and at first I thought the drivers was for a printer I don't have a printer, please help me and I do not have
a battery in it, I just keep it plugged in!

While I am having my other computer upgraded, I want to use my old Compaq Presario 6000 with vista black. Once I get the other computer back, I am throwing this thing away, but it could take about a month, so I want it to at least work.

I know this version of windows isn't legit, but as I said its going to be thrown away after its done being a stand in for my dell.

I really wish the person who repaired the computer 5 years ago did not install winbloat vista (and an illegal version at that) on this hunk of junk. He "claimed" that this was the only thing that would install. Click to expand...

Since you intend to junk that computer in a month or less and you admit to it running an illegal version of Windows Vista, it would be a waste of time for us to help you.

It's also a violation of the TSG forum rules to help with an illegal version of Windows, so we can't help you anyway.

I've requested your thread be closed.

According to the processor and graphics and motherboard specs for that Compaq Presario 6000 series desktop, it's about 12 years old.

It was designed to run Windows 2000 and Windows XP and was never designed to run Windows Vista.

I have a 6 year old pavilion dv6 model xg880ua#abc (amd phenom 2 840 triple core) running windows 7. Has anyone with this model updated to windows 10. How was or is the experience. If I do it I'll do a clean install. Should I bother at all?

A:windows 10 on older pavilion

Hillelmenachim Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about upgrading your Pavilion DV6 laptop to Win10 and wanted to help. I "upgraded" my Pavilion DV6 laptop (different model) to Win10 -- but it was a lot of work, and I learned some lessons that would have made it much easier, had I know the problems in advance.  So, I put together this description to help others with similar PCs: -------------- first, some generic comments ------------------------- You need to think about how much work you want to commit to just to run Win10.  Seriously.  Older Win7 machine tend to come in two flavors when it comes to the Win10 upgrade -- really easy, and really hard. The really hard to upgrade PCs fall into two categories: (1) those that are upgradeable to Win10 and will work OK, (2) those that are not.HP laptops, especially the older Win7 machines, often came with two different graphics chips -- and Intel and then, either an AMD or Nvidia.  This was known as Switchable Graphics or Hybrid Graphics.  You ran using the Intel chip most of the time, but when you needed extra graphics power, like in Gaming, the PC automatically switched over to using the AMD or Nvidia graphics chip.Problem is, this requires special graphics drivers to work, and while those came preinstalled on the Win7 laptops, those drivers simply do not exist for Win10.  Those drivers are not available from Intel, AMD, or Nvidia.  A way to tell if your PC has two different graphics chips is to look in Device Manager under Display Adapters.  IMPORTANT Warning: If there are two different display adapters listed, one Intel and one AMD/Nividia, then you have this problem -- and if you force an upgrade to Win10, you will have serious graphics problems and your machine will not work. However, if you do not have this problem, to CAN upgrade to Win10, but you must be prepared to do four things:1) Make a complete image backup to external drive or large capacity USB stick,2) Make changes to the reserved system partitioning scheme on your hard drive,3) Use a different approach than Windows Update to do the Upgrade,4) Be prepared to do a clean-install, if the Upgrade does not work.---------------------------------1: Image Backup:  This is VITAL because the machine is likely to fail the upgrade, and when it does, you will learn that the Win10 GoBack function is NOT reliable, and that can leave you with a corrupted machine that will require factory reset, and losing everything on it, to get it working again. You avoid this by making an image backup to an external drive or USB stick using Macrium Reflect (MR) which provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives. What I recommend is the following:1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CDNOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive or USB stick in only a few minutes.---------------------------------2: System Reserved Resizing:  There is a small partition on the hard drive of Win7 preinstalled machines known as System Reserved.  This holds something known as the boot loader code.  It is 100MB in size -- all that is needed for Win7.  But Win10 needs 350MB, and, in some cases, is NOT able to resize this on its own.  IF that happens, you have to manually use a partitioning tool to resize it yourself.---------------------------------3: Use a different Upgrade approach:  Windows Update is the easiest, but least reliable, way to do the Win10 Upgrade.  A much better, and more reliable way, is to use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win1... I have a new laptop with win8 and I really like it. I also have an older Dell Insproin 1521 with an AMD 64 bit processor, 4 gig of RAM and a 160 gig SSD. It runs Win7 just fine and I believe it will run Win8. My new laptop came with 8 installed so I don't have a box to check the low end specs for running 8. I have Linux on it now and I would like to run both. It boots in to Linux in 20 seconds, about the same time as my new Win8 laptop.

A:Can I run Windows 8 on an older laptop?

If it runs Windows 7, it should be just fine.

Is this a computer that came with Windows 7 or a much older computer? How old is it?
You would just be inviting a ton of more problems using 2000 even if you could get it installed.

EDIT: What would you be using this computer for?

Hello,

I register especially registered to here to ask that should I install windows 7 on my older computer, which at the moment lacks of speed. It usually crashes if there is 3 tabs or more running on the same time. Temperatures stay pretty cool also, so no problem there.

Specs are about this:

512MB DDR1 RAM
~200MB ATI Radeon
About 2Ghz Processor (i think)

It is package computer from HP bough on 2005. It runs on Windows XP Media Center. Also, if I would install windows 7 on it, can it be installed on the same partition to save the older files and pretty important documents?

Any experience on these? Im afraid that my RAM does not cover the needed specs for Win7.

A:Windows 7 on older computer?

Even if it's possible to run Windows 7 on your system (considering your deficiency in RAM, among other things) it would be a very difficult process that would probably cause you more problems and frustration than pleasure. I think you're better off not installing Windows 7 and saving yourself a lot of aggravation.

Hey everyone I have fell into a bad pot as I simply took my friends laptop Core Duo Ghz GB RAM and he wanted windows so I formatted it and installed it The comp is quite slow loading it up and it automatically shuts down at windows loading screen windows older to 8 from 7 PC Formatting For a second I saw the error of sign that PC ran into a problem and needs to restart and then it shuts down I made a windows CD but the comp is only willing to boot from a windows CD not windows CD it goes straight to the loading screen if WIN CD is inside I understand that maybe the comp is overheating and shuts down though it was cleaned up in some store I could make a new windows CD Maybe it would succeed when trying to boot from USB but Avira antivirus deleted my G Device because of autorun I turned now off the autorun detection and I can't recover it at another CPU the flash drive works If anybody could have some ideas I would be very very grateful

A:Formatting older PC from windows 8 to 7

If you want to reinstall Windows 7 over Windows 8.1 you will need to wipe the HDD/SSD with a program like Darik's Boot and Nuke.  You can upgrade to a newer version of Windows, but you can't install a previous version over the newer one.

My HP laptop (with windows XP) crashed, after 5 years, and I recently purchased another HP laptop (with windows 7). My printer is an HP, 2-3 years old. When I attempt to install the printer software onto my new laptop, I get a message that the operating system is not compatible and to contact the administrator (which, apparently is me, since this is my home computer and i am the only that uses it). I was told that I could go onto HP's site and download something to fix this. However, I do not know what I am to look for on their site. Please help! Thanks...

When Windows 7 came out it was said to be able to run in native XP mode to run old programs like DOS programs, Win95/98/ME/2000 and XP programs.

How do you enable this or do this in Windows 7?

A:Windows 7 and older programs

As far as i know, When you open a file to run it, it should run in something similar to compatibility mode. I'm pretty sure it should run automatically, or ask you if you want it to run it in compatibility mode.

I've just done a clean installation of Windows 8, and have been re-installing my games. I've read a few comments about older games not working under Windows 8, specifically <DX9 and openGL games. This is by no means a comprehensive list, obviously, but all these games will work on Windows 8 without issues. i'll be testing more of my games over the next few weeks, and will add to this thread with those older games which work (or not).

The big thing ssems to be...have the most up-to-date drivers installed. I had horror-story after horror-story on the CP because the openGL driver support wasn't there.

And DO use the compatibility mode. it's not as good as in Windows 7, but is adequate.
