Preferred Solution: BSOD / Black Screen + Sound Loop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Animal,

Please test your memory and clean install the AMD video drivers.

Diagnostic Test

RAM TEST

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 10 Forums

Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.
Please uninstall everything of AMD using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from AMD. Be sure to ONLY install the drivers using custom/advanced options.

New fresh install of windows 8 updated to 8.1 with all my motherboard drivers etc up to date. Display drivers are the newest Omega drivers from AMD.

I installed steam and decided to install csgo to my ssd/C: drive since it's my most played game. Now I can play the game fine but after a short amount of time the game and display drivers will crash giving me a black screen and sound loop. I let it sit there for a while so I could get a bsod and crash dump to happen.

Since then I also updated my ssd to the latest firmware and reinstalled my AMD drivers and the problem still persists. I have no other games installed at the moment so if you wan't me to check if the crash happens with other games let me know.

Here is my debug info

Hi,
Just recently upgraded to a ATI gigabyte 5770 from a Galaxy 9800GT. After installing driver from the cd, all seemed fine. On boot up, the desktop will appear, then the screen will flash black for a few seconds, then back to the desktop. This happens every single time i boot the PC up. I also sometimes crash to a black screen. When it crashes, i can still hear audio for about 5 seconds, then it too will crash and freeze. From here i have to reboot the PC.
I tried a full uninstall of driver, but had the same results. Some days it will be fine, without a single crash, but sometimes i can get 5 crashes in a single day.
Im running XP proffesional sp3

intel xeon e3110 3.00GHz, 2x 2gb ddr2, antec truepower 550w.
any help appreciated, cheers.

when i play games after a few minuets my comp locks up, the screen goes black and the sound loops. at first i thought it was the CPU overheating but the temp stays steady at 58 deg/c and dosnt rise before it locks up.

im relatively certain its my 9800 GTX+ graphics card thats the problem because of the nature of the lock ups and it takes longer for it to lock up if i use lower fps.

i have all the latest drivers

any advise on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated
here are my system specs

A:black screen, sound loop lock up

I have this same issue, but they are only specific to certain games: COD4, Fallout 3, Bioshock, Deadspace.
UT3, Assassins Creed, Crysis run fine.
I used to be able to play all these games fine, and I can't seem to recall ever changing anything to make them fail.

Game installs and starts fine. I am in the menu no more than 6 or 7 seconds then... Black screen with a sound loop. Forced to restart.
I have tried all of the typical fixes including drivers, heat, BIOS settings, background programs, complete reformat, etc
Someone please help!

If that +12v rail voltage is accurate then that would definately be a problem. Check the voltage in the BIOS as it could be a simple case of HWMonitor not reading the sensor output correctly.

Can you give us a DXDiag report.

Click Start and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the Run box.

When the dxdiag window opens click the Save All Information button and save the text file to your desktop or another location so you know where it is.

Then copy and paste the entire content of that text file into a reply here.

Hi folks I ve been having a huge number of problems with my computer over the past couple years I bought it in it s a Dell XPS Studio all still with stock parts including Intel Core i other goes Screen high sound loop, issues temps, black, gb ddr nvidia geforce gt dell motherboard My main problem I Screen goes black, sound loop, high temps, other issues can t do anything that uses Screen goes black, sound loop, high temps, other issues the gpu even very minimally for more than minutes before the screen goes black and the last moment of sound loops I used to assume this was just the gpu overheating from not having dusted the internals in some time I cleaned it out and the same problem occurs I checked my temps on speedfan and they are absolutely abnormally high As you can see it s not just my GPU Every temp is out of control I m not even sure what to make of Fan RPM Does that mean the fan is installed but not working I understand that quality can deteriorate over time but this was all stock from dell and I haven t touched a thing other than installed some older HDDs - i wouldn t expect everything to be so wacky And even sometimes when I clean it those secondary HDDs are no longer detected even if the connections are in place This is a huge nuisance and I don t know if it s a host of problems or if there is a single root cause Any suggestions edit i feel this should be in hardware oops nbsp

A:Screen goes black, sound loop, high temps, other issues

You can request to have the thread moved to Hardware by a moderator using the 'Report' button

I am not a big fan of speedfan personally, but your temps do look a bit on the high side assuming those readings were taken when the machine was idle? Give HWMonitor a try, take a screenshot of it just after you first turn the machine on without doing any tasks, then leave HWMonitor running and start a game up, run the game for a minute or so (hopefully without a crash) then exit and screenshot HWMonitor again. Post the two screenshots in a reply here.

What extra HDDs have you installed? Additional HDDs can affect air flow and impact temps.
Can you give us the Dell Service Tag number of the machine?
What operating system are you using?
Is the OS and all the drivers fully patched and up to date?

Edit My PSU died so I assume sound Black requiring reboot loop and crash screen that was the cause of the issue this whole time a half functioning power supply This issue occurs whether I am gaming or not but gaming causes it Black screen and sound loop crash requiring reboot to occur more often In fact my pc crashed typing this post so I'm currently rewriting it all When I go to reboot the computer I notice CPU fans and top back are off I'm not sure if that means anything but yesterday I had to reseat my GPU ram etc to get my computer bootable due to this issue I'm not really sure what to do I've tried many things I've had this black screen issue for months now RAM is fine memtest doesn't detect any issues I have tried using only one of the ram sticks at a time as well I have tried reseating the GPU putting it into a different slot Newest GPU drivers Temps are good all under idle Tried Windows Windows HDD and SSD Making sure all the PSU cables are fully in their place along with every other cable in the PC Have taken out all of the PC parts out and rebuilt my PC Booted PC without CMOS battery Installed a mobo speaker and all is normal there I've tried using the other GPU video headers Furmark gets my GPU to c under maximum load My cpu I believe gets to c I can't find any memory dumps since it's not a BSOD But I could potentially be looking in the wrong places Event Viewer only tells me that the PC turned off unexpectedly I'm thinking of sending the GPU to MSI it's still good for warranty and all but I don't even know what exactly is causing this weird issue

Hi all,

My computer seems to crash, BSOD and freeze at random times. It seems to always crash after a few minutes of running on a fresh start. I've run Malwarebytes anti-malware scan and MSE Scan which found nothing. I've updated drivers, run Windbg, driver validater, disabled non-windows services, startup applications, bios updates, windows updates, memory check of 5 passes, disk checks, power checks with hwinfo, performance monitor reports and I've still not found any concrete evidence that there is anything wrong except that my computer blue screens for the heck of it.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I'd rather not reinstall, but I can if I have to. I think I may get an SSD before I do though.

A:PC Crash to black screen with delayed sound looping no BSOD message

0x116 errors are mostly caused by graphics drivers or a failing graphics card, I suggest running Furmark by following these instructions to rule out the hardware possibility.

Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Run it for around 30 minutes.

Hi guys First time on this forum so sorry if its posted in the wrong location I updated my CPU Mobo and RAM about month month half ago now all has been working fine up until last week I come home from work turned on my PC and it gets stuck in a restart loop My monitor is ON and it makes a weird noise when starting it does this for about - seconds then restarts again and again and again I did do a little overclocking when I bought the components but the temperature was around - and I thought this was fine But that was almost a month ago Also I left it in the restart loop for about minutes yesterday and it finally booted and let me logged in I left it for about minutes and tried searching for a solution but was unsuccessful and it finally crashed again without an error message I hope this is OK thanks Aaron

A:Black screen and restart loop

Hi Aaronn

My name is Vishal and i work for the Social Media and Community Team at dell. May ia know which operating system system do you have on this system. Also the kind of system behaviour you have mentioned is generally related to hardware the most common could be overheating, a bad processor, bad motherboard, bad RAM. The next time your system restarts, and you get the menu and the prompt to continue booting normally, see if there is an option that says "Disable Automatic Restart On System Failure", or something similar. If you boot with this option, then the next time your system "resets", you should see a Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD). The BSOD will provide a particular "STOP" Error code, which will help us identifying the problem better.

Thanks

"Starting automatic repairs" is usually an indication system files are corrupted or can't be read from the HDD.

I'd start with testing the HDD. You can get a bootable iso of the manufacturers disk tools from the HDD manufacturers website.

I let my sister borrow my laptop a few days ago. I tried to start it today and it's stuck in a loop, alternating between a black screen and the HP Logo. I asked her if she did anything and she claims to not have done anything to mess with it. I don't know what's going on, but I've tried the hard reset and whatnot and it hasn't worked. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I'd really appreciate some help here.

Hello

I am trying to reinstall win. 10 on my lenovo thinkpad e540. I first tried with creation tool on a 8 gb usb pin that didn't work. Everytime I reached 60% an error message popped up saying it couldn't recognize something.

I then made a recovery key on my usb pin and disabled fast boot mode in bios and selected to boot up from my usb pin in bios. When the installation is reached to 100% I am asked if I want to clean my TPM at first I pressed yes then the pc reboots and after that nothing happens I can see a black screen and a loading sign. I tried to run it again but this time I presses ESC when it asked me to clear my TPM files and the result is the same as before.

Can somebody please help me I am running out of ideas and it is starting to pis me off😀

I have a toshiba satellite laptop modelT135D and it doesn't want to startup I've tried all the options when I pressed F8 and still nothing. When I choose the launch repair option all that shows up is the cursor and a black screen and I left the black screen on for more than an hour and nothing happens. I've noticed though that when it attempts to start up the little bar after the windows logo loads up doesnt load up as well. This all happened when I turned off my laptop while the windows update was still going at 9 out of 11 . My laptop doesn't have a cd drive either.

Since I moved my pc to a LAN-party it takes dozens of time to get the computer starting without a boot loop.

When it starts my pc screen goes on standby after the windows loading screen while Safe-mode works perfect.

Could it be hardware related? because I might have been staticly charged at the LAN-party since I felt electricity everytime I touched the metal of the case.

EDIT

my thoughts: 2 problems.
1. Bad power connection leading to boot loops (the orange light next to the power light doesn't work with boot loops)
2. Videocard issue leading to black screens and BSOD (atihmpag.sys) --> reinstalled the video card and it seems to work for now.

A:Boot loop and black screen after windows logo

If it can load into Safe Mode usually this means a driver issue.

Second, you should in no way be feeling anything electric through your case! Is the motherboard touching the case at all? Check the back. The standoffs should prevent this. Is somthing touching the motherboard?

If your boot disc boots the computer and you have video, then there probably isn't anything wrong with the video card.
Press F8 at bootup and get to the Advanced Boot menu and Last Known Good Configuration. If available, try VGA mode. Or Safe Mode with Networking and Update your Video Driver from the nVidia site.

A:Boot loop and black screen after windows logo

It could be hardware related, so we can run some tests. I'm wondering why safe mode works fine.

First off, are you really using XP, or are you using Vista/7?

The first thing I would do is open up the case and check your connections. Pull out the RAM and seat it firmly, make sure the hard drive power and SATA cables are in tight.

Any cable you see, make sure it's in securely.

Hello, so yesterday I had my Lumia on my hands and I just took the case off it and the battery dropped. It happened in the past with no problem. So I put the battery back on and I tried to boot the phone. Since then the phone vibrates, nothing appears on the screen (just black) and after some seconds it vibrates again... and again.
I tried:
- Removing and putting back on the battery
- Hard resetting the phone (It seems that it doesn't even get the signal to hard reset. Just restarting all the time)
- Using the WDRT to flash it but the process fails because before its complete the phone restarts (plus it is not recognized)
I need advice please :/

A:Computer crashes to a black/colored screen with buzzing noise loop

No DMP files in the upload. Please try this method

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Everything that can be done is here for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start including rescuiing your files to run Recovery or do the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Use the disk for repairs which is more stable. Once you clear any infection, then do the repairs in order specified. Startup Repair should tell you its running System Restore and SFC but if not run those yourself from the Options list and Command Line as also given in tutorial.

Hello friends, I recently got the Gnome desktop environment on the Ubuntu Software Center, and I used the gdm and startx command as said by another forum site. Nothing wrong, they said to logout, tried to login again, goes to a black screen and sends me back to the Ubuntu login screen. Tried again, same result, panicked. Looked up video tutorial on how to fix it, they said to access the control panel via ctrl-alt-f1 or f2, went to a black screen, no text at all, computer runs fine, no crashing. Is there a special way to access the terminal in a System76 computer, I really don't know very confusing? Is there a way to login with the guest session? I use Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf on my laptop. What causes this, I read on Ubuntu forums it's driver issues with Ubuntu and Nvidia, but I have my suspections with the Gnome desktop environment.

Hello first of all english is not my mother language so I'll do my best.

Im having BSOD this days after a typical cleaning the computer box. I said BSOD but its a Black screen with sound loop and then my screen goes sleep. Only one time the computer reboot alone. I saw a post with similar problem and you guys recomended to do a DM log collector file. I attached it on the post. Hope help with my issue.

The problems started when I updated my drivers from old ones to the AMD 14.11.2 beta. I though the problem were the beta, but when I installed the lastest non beta (always uninstalling clean the ondest) then the problems still happens. I dont know if I touched something when I was cleaning or the problem is the drivers, or something else.

The problem happens usually when Im playing games and this night happened when I was watching a yt video too.

I'm getting blue screen of death when playing World of Tanks. Sometimes the sound gets really choppy before it crashes. Every time it does, the sound loops before BSOD. I had an xonar d1 that I removed. When I tried to uninstall the device the computer immediately BSOD. Currently I am running off on the onboard audio, but I am still getting BSOD. Drivers are all current. This is a pretty high end system that is not overclocked. MemTest Ran for 12+ hours with no errors. Any help will be appreciated.

Stop 0x124 is a hardware error

If you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see if that helps.

If you continue to get BSOD here are some more things you may want to consider.

This is usually heat related, defective hardware, memory or even processor though it is"possible" that it is driver related (rare).

Quote:
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
Synopsis:

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:

1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.
2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled.
If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.
3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware.
It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.
4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Their website should provide detailed instructions as to the brand and model-specific procedure.
5) Rarely, bugs in the OS may cause "false positive" 0x124 events where the hardware wasn't complaining but Windows thought otherwise (because of the bug).
At the time of writing, Windows 7 is not known to suffer from any such defects, but it is nevertheless important to always keep Windows itself updated.

6) Attempt to (stress) test those hardware components which can be put through their paces artificially.
The most obvious examples are the RAM and HDD(s).
For the RAM, use the in-built memory diagnostics (run MDSCHED) or the 3rd-party memtest86 utility to run many hours worth of testing.
For hard drives, check whether CHKDSK /R finds any problems on the drive(s), notably "bad sectors".
Unreliable RAM, in particular, is deadly as far as software is concerned, and anything other than a 100% clear memory test result is cause for concern. Unfortunately, even a 100% clear result from the diagnostics utilities does not guarantee that the RAM is free from defects - only that none were encountered during the test passes.

7) As the last of the non-invasive troubleshooting steps, perform a "vanilla" reinstallation of Windows: just the OS itself without any additional applications, games, utilities, updates, or new drivers - NOTHING AT ALL that is not sourced from the Windows 7 disc.
Should that fail to mitigate the 0x124 problem, jump to the next steps.
If you run the "vanilla" installation long enough to convince yourself that not a single 0x124 crash has occurred, start installing updates and applications slowly, always pausing between successive additions long enough to get a feel for whether the machine is still free from 0x124 crashes.
Should the crashing resume, obviously the very last software addition(s) may be somehow linked to the root cause.
If stop 0x124 errors persist despite the steps above, and the harware is under warranty, consider returning it and requesting a replacement which does not suffer periodic MCE events.
Be aware that attempting the subsequent harware troubleshooting steps may, in some cases, void your warranty:

8) Clean and carefully remove any dust from the inside of the machine.
Reseat all connectors and memory modules.
Use a can of compressed air to clean out the RAM DIMM sockets as much as possible.

9) If all else fails, start removing items of hardware one-by-one in the hope... Read more

Alright so I have looked around and this issue seems semi-common though I have not seen a single solution for it At the moment my computer will freeze randomly The sound will loop on a very short wave so it sounds somewhat like static but its obviously not I have looked in the reliability and performance monitor and the freeze is not only not listed it has the gall to list the fact that I had to use the reset button to unlock Lockup NO with report sound BSOD/Error loop, it I suspect bad hardware but I cannot be sure I play sound through my iPod for music and when it freezes the music can still be heard in addition to the loop So the mobo seems to be alright maybe My first suspect was bad RAM but I don't have any other RAM to try in it right now yeah I know I'm slacking I tried to do a repair but the Vista disk claims there is not enough space to do a repair on the boot mgr partition wth I have not had a change to try the sfc scannow but I will ASAP I am currently reinstalling Seven on it so its busy This issue had gone away a while ago Lockup with sound loop, NO BSOD/Error report but seems to have come back so Anyways what I have Lockup with sound loop, NO BSOD/Error report done Booted into safe mode Lockup with sound loop, NO BSOD/Error report and ran like virus scans clean Tried and failed a Repair WILL try sfc Any ideas or solutions Lordbob

At the moment, my computer will freeze randomly. The sound will loop on a very short wave (so it sounds somewhat like static, but its obviously not). I have looked in the reliability and performance monitor, and the freeze is not only not listed, it has the gall to list the fact that I had to use the reset button to unlock it!

I suspect bad hardware, but I cannot be sure. I play sound through my iPod (for music) and when it freezes, the music can still be heard (in addition to the loop). So the mobo seems to be alright (maybe?). My first suspect was bad RAM, but I don't have any other RAM to try in it right now (yeah I know, I'm slacking). I tried to do a repair, but the Vista disk claims there is not enough space to do a repair on the boot mgr partition (wth?). I have not had a change to try the /sfc scannow, but I will ASAP. I am currently reinstalling Seven on it, so its busy.

This issue had gone away a while ago, but seems to have come back so...

Anyways, what I have done:
Booted into safe mode and ran like 100 virus scans (clean)
Tried (and failed) a Repair

WILL try /sfc

Any ideas or solutions?

~Lordbob

Hi Bob, I would tend to go for software, the first thing that comes to mind is too many apps running at the same time, it could also be a software conflict.
Have you recently installed new software? or maybe used a reg cleaner?

Hey everyone, ive been trying to diagnose this issue for a while with no luck and I was looking for a fresh perspective. At random times, my computer will freeze up with a repeating audio loop, no BSOD nothing and it will stay that way till i do a hard reset.

I have already tried the usual stuff, not overclocking, tested memory, and prime95 test CPU. Thanks for any input.

Have you tested your OS drive as well? You can boot into Safe Mode and go about your business as much as you can to see if the problem can be recreated there too. If not, you probably have one or more background services or applications causing the conflict.

Well, first we should see if a driver is causing the problem which is generally the case. Try enabling Driver Verifier to force a BSOD if a driver is at fault. Follow these instructions.

Hello I am for some time now experiencing a weird kind of BSOD sometimes without freezes, Desktop sound BSOD loop. in unpredictable intervals, actual BlueScreen but windows still tells me it was indeed a BlueScreen after the ReBoot It happens in all kinds of Situations While i play a game that taxes my PC to the limit while watching Videos listening to music or while completely Idle The sound loop which appears to be the last sound played before the error occurs lasts about seconds before the PC reboots automatically Usually i reset it before that because the sound is very annoying When the PC is Idle while it BSOD in unpredictable intervals, Desktop freezes, sound loop. crashes there is no sound at all obviously I have switched several pieces of Hardware in the last few Months CPU GPU Motherboard but that didn't seem to affect the Issue at all I tried finding help with this issue before but from what i could find which wasn't very much since i had almost nothing to go on i assumed it was a GPU driver issue and there was nothing i could do about it Now it's getting really annoying since it's completely random Sometimes i use my PC for a week without crash and the next day it crashes times in one hour There seems to be no real pattern None that i can recognize anyway I use the following Hardware in my PC AMD FX Ghz GB Dual-Channel DDR MHz - - - Gigabyte GA- LMT-USB Socket M MB ATI AMD Radeon HD Series Sapphire PCPartner GB Samsung SSD EVO GB ATA Device SSD GB Seagate ST DM - ER ATA Device SATA Also i attached the File created with the tool mentioned in the How-To Post in this Forum The Event Viewer shows some Critical errors but they all seem to be a response to the unexpected shut down due to the crash and not the reason for the Crash in itself Quote from the Error description quot The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first This error could be caused if the system stopped responding crashed or lost power unexpectedly quot I'd really appreciate any help with this issue Edit I forgot to mention that i am using SP and have all the updates installed that are avaiable via the Windows Updater I also have the driver verifier enabled right now and i will run memtest tommorrow since i currently don't have a free USB stick or empty CDs lying around

A:BSOD in unpredictable intervals, Desktop freezes, sound loop.

So, about 20 minutes after i enabled the Driver Verifier my System froze again. This time without any sound and a different screen. It looked like a partially restored image from a formatted drive where nothing remains of the original image. It's difficult to describe.

The Event log doesn't show anything that seems related, but that could very well be because i have no idea what to look for. Is there anything i can do to add something that could help someone else see the problem?

Edit: Ran the data collection tool again after the "new" verifier provoked crash. Added the zip file as attachment.

A:XP loading screen BSOD loop - Please Help!

I noticed that the fan for I believe the Northbridge controller wasn't working and the heatsink got very hot. So I turned off the computer right away as soon as I noticed this. I got the fan back to working againClick to expand...

This is obviously the FIRST problem you must solve. Otherwise, if you run that computer without that fan working, you will undoubtedly suffer serious damage. Especially if the BIOS setup is not configured to shutdown on a given temp.

Secondly the error code could be the same matter - overheat.

That error is usually BAD physical ram or bad hardware ie: a graphics, sound, network card etc.
HOWEVER all of these could easily go back to the same problem.

Is there a minidump if so attach it please.

Direct X 9b
OS: Win 98
ATI Tech -Enhanced
Chip Type: R128 Rev 0

Monitor:Optiquest Q51

I recently got back into playing some of my old computer games and they seemed to install normally. But when I get into the game the screen goes black, but I still have sound, and from memory I am still able to maneuver around the options using the keyboard, mouse is useless. Tests in DxDiag and failed D3D for 7 and 8 interfaces. It also failed the DirectDraw test for fullscreen. I updated the driver, no help. What to do ?

A:Black screen with sound

I had a similar problem.

Try changing the refresh rate of the monitor temporally, then you can get into the game and set it to a better resolution.

Desktop > right click > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor tab.

Have a mess with the refresh rates and then try to start the game.

It might be something to do with Direct X9.

Tell me if this helps.

Paul.

Am I surprised? No... am I seconds away from pushing my monitor out the window? Yes

I install something - anything, make some system changes, or anything else that might effect my computer whatsoever and the next time I restart I get the BSOD. I open in safe mode, do a system restore and then try again. I've tried deactivating admin notices and installing alcohol 120% and both have brought the same results.

You're thinking, well rectify whatever is changed after the system restore, but it happens with nearly everything, and it was doing this before the restore point where it just seemed to randomly do it when it felt the need.

Is there anything I can do apart from reinstall? Because if I do then this stupid system is going to hell, the only thing keeping me from uninstallage is the tedium.

Got an ATi 9800 pro btw, since I've heard something about that. 1gb ram, pentium 4.

Hello, I am new here but it seems to be the perfect place to find info on my problem.

For some reason, certain games and programs (Unreal Tournament 1999, Sword of the New World, Battlefield 2142, iTunes, and recently Requiem:Memento Mori), cause my computer to fail. The screen goes blank (the backlight is still on, but the screen is black) and the sound will loop for a while before shutting off. The time between program start and computer failure varies from program to program. Unreal and SotNW cause immediate failure, iTunes and Battlefield are unpredictable, and Requiem, which used to run perfectly fine, now causes failure right after i log in. I have determined the problem is not overheating. I have cleaned up my registry info, and scanned for viruses. Nothing helps. I am on hands and knees here. Please tell me how to fix my computer!

Thanks,
Kevin

Bought a WinTV USB tuner for my XP and it worked fine on my Gateway computer. Cable TV goes into one end and USB cord comes out the other. Simple.

Bought a new HP Media Center PC (without tuner) and moved the USB device over to that machine. Obtained new drivers for WinTV2000 from web site.

Program runs find and autoscan does locate the incoming cable channel 3. But no picture and no sound. When I scan the channels (surf) I get a bunch of thumbnail screen shots all labeled channel 3... the shots differ from one another like in time lapse photography. When I click on a single thumbnail, I get the black screen again. Never any sound. Never any streaming video.

Can anyone tell me what is going on here?

Thanks.

Built my own computer, and for a while it ran fine, but now when I try to play League of Legends it will crash often. Sometimes the game freezes, and no method of input will change the screen until I hold down the power button. In this case my speakers emit a high pitched noise. Other times the screen will go black, and the computer will automatically restart. Other times I will get a blue screen with the error code 0x00007e. Please help this is getting very annoying!

I should note that it is not often that it crashes, sometimes it will happen twice in a short time, sometimes it will take days.

Probably hardware. Clean out dust in the system, if you have overclocked stop and revert to original settings. The link contains the most probable solution to your problem. IF the problem cannot be fixed i suggest lowering the vcore a tad tad bit.
Here are stresstests to possibly help rule a few things out. : Stresstests:
Ram : RAM - Test with Memtest86+
General hardware: Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 ( (Three pre-set configurations are available: Small FFTs and In-place FFTs, and Blend. Small and In-place modes primarily test the FPU and the caches of the CPU, whereas the Blend mode tests everything, including the memory.)
Graphics: Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark (Do the above Graphics test only with the latest drivers, and then Run it until the temperatures stop increasing; should be less then 10 minutes. If you don't see any crazy glitches or distortion on the screen, The test most likely passed. Take note if the Temperature gets too high, or you see Visual artifact - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia to stop the test.)
Good luck.

My MSI GE70 laptop with windows 8 64 has recently been having an issue while watching videos (whether it is a downloaded file or a stream) where the screen will suddenly go black and the sound will go away, but the cursor will still be visible with the spinning circle to show me it is working on something. It will just stay black and nothing will respond, even CTRL-ALT-DEL. The only way to fix it is to restart the computer by holding down the power button. It doesn't give me any error messages before this happens or on start up afterwards. It isn't overheating, and I didn't install any new drivers before this started. Any ideas what could be wrong or how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
My problem is that after I start to play any game, 10-15 mins pass and I have a black screen. There is sound, but the keyboard/mouse won't react, so I have to reset the PC - therefore there is no dump file. I really don't know what to do. Is there a software that monitors this kind of crashes?
Otherwise the PC runs for days on end if I don't use the VGA in games. This is my only problem with it. After restarting it, it usually runs in games all right, no crash later.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Read the whole thread before doing anything so you know what you're getting into and how to back out of it.
The goal is actually to cause some crashes and create some dump files to review.

Once that's done you can follow the directions here

Pull out the memory and see if the motherboard emits continuous beeps. If not, the motherboard is bad. While you are at it, try another power supply just to be sure. Does your power supply tester have leds for all voltages?

Hello and Welcome,

Does this only happen when gaming or watching movies?

Boot the PC into the BIOS and post the temp and voltage readings.

Once back in Windows download and install HWMonitor

Once the program is installed post a screenshot at idle and while the PC is under load.

You can ALT+Tab to the program to take the screenshot.

Is the buzzing noise coming from the speakers or inside the PC?

What brand/wattage PSU are you currently using?

Well, after much fiddling and a heap of help from here I finally got Vista installed on my PC.
Unfortunately, one of the same problems persists that caused my kids to trash the original hard drives. The monitor turns black and goes to sleep but the content still runs (including audio) there is no way to wake the monitor other than pressing the button to shut it down.
I am probably missing a driver, especially now since I don't have everything updated. But I think it's odd that this is happening again. Is it Vista or could it be Vista and my video card not getting along?

A:Black Screen but sound/video still work

You can disable sleep mode. Updating the video driver may help.

Hello,

First of all, if this doesn't belong here, I'm sorry and please put it in the right place.

I have upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8 since a while but I didn't had the time to ask for help. So now here's my problem.

If I watch a video with Windows Media Player, then the video only has sound, the screen is black.
If I watch a video with the Video App from Windows 8, then it also only shows a black screen. (Audio works) After a few seconds the App crashes.
Also every App that has to do something with a video (like a YouTube App) keeps crashing.
With Internet Explorer (App and Desktop) before the same. (for example : Youtube) Now it seems to work, don't know why.

The only way to watch videos is using VLC.

So that's it. What can I do to solve my problem.

Thank you,
Takuaraa

A:Windows 8 | Video (black screen), only sound

I think it is safe to say that the only Application that CAN view videos IS VLC. They removed DVD support from Windows Media Player and I have never been able to watch anything but DVDs from Media Center. The "Video" tile will not play anything but what content you buy from Xbox. I have found NO Tile/Metro app that CAN play any videos.

In WMP, if the video is Black, then the Video Codec is not installed for the Content you are trying to view. You can download the k lite codec pack, or something similar. But I don't like those cos sometimes they install Malware.

You can just keep using VLC which is what I use, it is a better Video Player for all codecs, and just about every codec is built in so you do not have to install these excess codec packs.

Hi All,

I'm trying to convert my old VHS tapes to my PC (Windows XP) through my Dazzle capture card. I've connected the composite leads (yellow, red and white) to my Dazzle (which is plugged into the USB connection on the front of my PC) and have connected the other end of the composite leads (yellow, red and white) to the front of the VCR (the VCR does not have a USB connection).

When I try to capture the footage through Movie Maker I'm not getting any preview image - black screen with no sound.

I have also tried connecting the composite lead to a SCART converter (switched to OUTPUT) and plugged this into the SCART connection in the back of the PC but I get the same results - black screen with no sound.

Any of you guys have any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Regards,

C h r e d g e.

A:VHS capture through Dazzle - black screen no sound

Hi All,

I've managed to get video to appear now. I've connected the composite leads to a SCART converter with a INPUT/OUTPUT switch - switching to OUTPUT resolves the video problem.

The only problem I have now is that I don't get any sound. Through MovieMaker it asks for a Audio Device and a Audio Input Source. I have tested combinations of both my internal soundcard and the Dazzle as the Audio Device but without any luck.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers.

A:BSOD (black screen and windows startup screen freeze

Ok 116 error is caused by your Graphics card.
First thing to do is update your drivers from the NVIDIA website.

If BSODs continue Try HDD tests,
download gpu-z to check if your card is getting too hot, also is there lots of dust in the card?

Do you overclock your video card?

This can happen at any time for me (including when I was re-installing windows in an attempt to fix the problem... did not go well ) but more often than not happens during web-browsing and especially when watching youtube vids. I'm going to assume it has something to do with my graphics card as the blue screen does not actually come up... instead the screen goes black and then I have to restart the computer. Anyways upon boot up and log in I get a windows message that tells me that windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown ect.. and the numbers are:

Have you activated your Win 7?

Fully and completely update your Win7. Afterwards, I'll be asking you to submit a file which will show me all of the installed updates.

The update procedure will take qute a period of time since you do not have SP1 installed. This means there are updates to get you up to SP1 and then there about 100 updates post-SP1.

UPDATING YOUR WIN 7
1. ASSURE THAT YOU RECEIVE ALL UPDATES
WIN | type WINDOWS UPDATE | ENTER |
Change settings (left-hand column) |
checkmark all four of the boxes | OK button

Approve any dialog boxes presented. Let Windows install any update features.

WIN is the key with the Microsoft flag on top.

2. INSTALL CRITICAL UPDATES
Check for Updates (left-hand column)
Install ALL critical updates.
Restart your computer (even if not prompted)

Repeat this procedure until there are no more critical updates.

DO NOT TRUST the ?Windows is up to date? in center of dialog. until you see that TWICE IN A ROW!

3. INSTALL IMPORTANT UPDATES
Use the ?critical update? procedure until all important updates are installed.

4. INSTALL OPTIONAL UPDATES
Under Optional updates you will be presented with:
a) Microsoft Bing Desktop which is of questionable value
b) a list of about 34 language updates.

You can hide those updates so that aren't continually notified of those updates.
When you click on 34+ optional updates are available, then you
a) highlight all of the language updates,
b) right-click anywhere in the highlighted list.
c) click on Hide Updates,
d) OK button.
Install ALL other Optional Updates.
Use the ?critical update? procedure.

UPDATE GOLDEN RULES
Install ALL, yes, ALL updates.
This is Win 7 and not Vista or XP (eXPired).

UPDATE IS HUNG ?TAKING FOREVER
Hung is very doubtful unless you interrupted updates.

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key combo will pop-up the Task Manager.
Lo and behold, Windows Update is still running!

You hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys.
While holding them down, tap the ESC key once.

A:BSOD Plannetside 2 (steam) black screen> reboot> BSOD crash report

A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics related issue. Many a factors or components may cause such a BSOD.

First of all, it is the display driver. From your BSOD dumps, I have noticed that it crashed the same irrespective of the driver version over time. So overlooking this part right now. Will concentrate it on later again, if needed.

Next thing is overclocking, which sometimes lead display to crash. And, you are slightly overclocked.

Code:
CPUID: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz"
MaxSpeed: 3400
CurrentSpeed: 3411
As the system is crashing, you should stop overclocking. Set all the hardware elements like CPU, GPU and RAM to default; and reset the BIOS to default too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

Heat is another factor. Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Also, dust accumulation causes heat, and dust accumulation depends on the age of the system. How old the system is? If possible, dismantle it and clean the inside carefully .... specially the air vents and fan grills, so that it can blow the hot air out easily.
Dont forget to apply thermal paste to the CPU when re-seating the system.

Insufficient power supply is also a great cause of display crash. Check if the CPU is supplying adequate power there or not.

Hey, recently I have been experiencing troubles playing games on my brand new PC.
I can play a game for a while, and then suddenly the screen will go completely black for about 5 seconds every half a minute or so. The game still plays (which usually results in me dying 'cause I can't see!) but there is no display.

I have a P4 3.4ghz with HT, 1024MB of RAM and a 256MB GeForce 7600GS

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Pretty much what happens is that i'll be playing a game for about an hour or two, and then the screen will suddenly go black, but the audio still plays. To get the computer responding again I have to manually restart the computer. This happens at random times in my games; I could be playing for not even 5 minutes and it will stop responding, and sometimes I can play for 3 hours straight and not a single thing happens.

A:Screen goes black then pc crashes and repeats the sound it was making

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Can you tell us exactly what make and model the machine is, if it is a Dell include the service tag number so we can look up the exact specs.

Could be a heat issue, power supply, faulty part, drivers etc.

Download and install HWMonitor then run the program. Screenshot the HWMonitor screen when the PC is idling, then run a game for a few minutes (if you can, i.e. it doesn't crash / black screen immediately). Then after about 5 mins of the game running, exit and screenshot the HWmonitor screen again, then post the two screenshots.

Run a DXdiag ... click Start > in the Run box type dxdiag and hit enter.
Click the diagnostic button (if its 64bit it will have a button saying Run 64bit DXDiag,
Click the Save All Information button, save the .txt file somewhere then copy and past that into a reply also.

Hello,

A few days ago I had this problem for the first time, my PC freezes (no buttons respond) and I get a black screen. If sound was playing at that moment, it skips continuously. The only thing I can do is powering off my pc and restart it again.

After restarting it says the pc didn't shut down cleanly and starts collecting meta-cache, I have the option to start Windows in safe or normal mode.

After that everything seems unchanged/normal until it freezes again (this is at random, it can be 20 minutes after / 1 hour after /...).

Prior to the first time I did not download/install anything (to my knowledge), nor did something happen to my pc (didn't let it drop, didn't spill anything on it, etc).

I followed the instructions on the "BSOD - Posting Instructions" to make this post.

Hopefully someone can help me with this.

Thank you.

Thomas D.M.

A:PC freeze, black screen and sound skipping at random

There are no dump files in your .zip folder. Can you please follow these instructions on how to configure dump files. Can you also disable automatic restart, just follow the tutorial and you will see a tick box saying "Automatically Restart" untick it.

Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Can you then enable Driver Verifier by following these instructions as it will help determine if there are bad drivers installed.
