RegSvr32 error and BAD_POOL_HEADER after failed update

Q: RegSvr32 error and BAD_POOL_HEADER after failed update

Hi

I started up my computer yesterday and got a blue screen which sayed "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer". I decided to reinstall windows 8.1 from disk but I am now getting the RegSvr32 error box every time I start the computer. After a while I will also get the BAD_POOL_HEADER blue screen.

Any help would be great and I will certainly donate if the problem can be fixed. Thanks

Preferred Solution: RegSvr32 error and BAD_POOL_HEADER after failed update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello
I cant log in to msn messenger someone recommended running regsvr32 softpub DLL, but it says the specified module could not be found...could this be one of the reasons why my msn is not working?

Let me preface this with saying that I've looked for the answer to this everywhere, but I can't seem to find my exact problem. So forgive me if I am repeating somebody.

When I shut down my XP Pro machine, I get an error message that says:
"regsvr32.exe failed to execute because the workstation is shutting down"

I can't figure out why this would be showing up. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Greetings!
I have an Optiplex 9010 AIO. This morning I was trying to update the BIOS of my system, from A10 to A13. During the update process it showed an error: "ME FW Update Failed: Internal error: FWU_Buffer " - please see the photo below. Although the update failed on the Management Engine part, it still boots up and running OK. I tried couple of times to update the BIOS, and each time I got the same error. I tried to flash the A12 and A11 BIOS as well, A12 gives same error, and A11 has the same Management Engine version hence no use.
Any help on this is very much appreciated!

This is a Windows 2003 Server w/Service Pack 1
Company Exchange and web server

Application log shows 9099 errors multiple times per day.
The MAD Monitoring thread was unable to read the state of the services, error '0x80041013'.

Which led me to run WMIdiag.vbs

Which reported 17 instances of missing DCOM registrations for TSCFGWMI.DLL
The report suggested Re-registering the DLL which I tried:
regsvr32 <c:winnt\system32\tscfgwmi.dll>

However, I received the following error:

Not sure what to do next. I've spent a lot time searching for the next step without success. Can anyone help?

I am running XP Pro (32 bit) w/ SP3 and have tried to install my Sonar X1 producer (DAW) many times with no luck. I get the error,

"C:Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\VS700.dll

Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code Ox3."

The file "regsvr32.exe" is in its proper directory (C:\windows\system32). I have tried uninstalling all versions of Sonar, right clicking the .EXE and loading as administrator, as well as tried Ignoring all errors (as there are many .dlls that look to generate this error upon istallation), and nothing works. I get the same errors every time I try to install. Can someone help? It does not look as though Cakewalk knows what to do with this problem and I just purchased this software but keep receiving this Windows error.

Btw, I am attempting to load this from a download, not the CDs.

Thanks

Sorry, one correction:

I just realized that the full name of the regsvr32 file in c:\windows\prefetch is REGSVR32.EXE-396DEA2C.pf

So I didn't actually find a regsvr32.exe anywhere in my search.

A:Bad_Pool_Header and Context: MSI Action Failed

Hi Betsy,

Welcome to the forum!

That's normally associated with a bad driver. Can you boot into SAFE MODE? If so, go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE and then click on the DEVICE MANAGER button. In there you will see a list of your system components. See if there are any devices showing up with errors. If you see any highlighted items (exclamation point near an item), you can try right-clicking on it and select "update driver".

There are a few other things we can try as well. Let me know what you find from the above procedure and we'll go from there.

What have you done to the system recently, or just before this happened?

Hi All

Some of our client machine(Windows7) is not taking update from WSUS server. When we verified the WindowsUpdate logs, we could see that WU client version is changed to 7.6.7600.256 from 7.5.7601.17514.Our WSUS server is running with version WSUS 3.0 SP1 on windows 2003 server. So we suspect this may be the reason windows 7 machines is getting the error message 'Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x800b0001' when it try to get the update from WSUS server.

So please suggest any steps to change the WU client version on windows 7 back to 7.5.7601.17514

Hi Irina

I think that an entry is incomplete
Have you installed/uninstalled new software recently?
Try using CCleaner registry cleaner
If this fails a system restore might help

I hope this helps

This appears to be corruption in the SoftwareDistribution folder

Let's see if we can cure it the 'easy way' -

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command...

RD C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\8de8eccc51302e3ad3cd631c70492dc1 /S /Q

reboot, and then run another Check for Updates - then try installing ONLY KB2584146.

Here are some instructions to make lifeeasier

1) To open anElevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs,Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run asAdministrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

2) To run thecommands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on thehighlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at topleft – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the lastcommand, so hit the Enter Key once.

3) To copy theresults... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit...'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to pasteit into your response.

Windows update has not been able to install new updates for a couple of weeks. I first noticed this after getting a notification in my task tray saying that updates could not automatically install. However, updates will not manually install either.

I get the error "Windows Could not Search for New Updates" and error code 8024402C. (See attached screenshot).

I followed all the instructions in the Windows Update Posting Instructions Thread and have also attached my error log.

Please let me know what can be done to restore automatic updates. Thanks!

A:Windows Update Failed: Error 8024402C

Open Windows Update
Click on Change Settings
Select 'Never Update...'
Click OK
exit Windows Update
Now open Windows update again
Click on Change Settings
Select 'Update automatically'
Click OK
exit Windows Update
Open Windows Update, and do a manual Check for Updates.
If it still fails, please post an MGADiag report - it may show what the problem is, even if the tool isn't strictly applicable here.
Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

A:Win 7 x64 SP1 Update Failed, Error Code 80070002

There's no sign in your CBS.log file that SFC actually ran.
an 0x80070002 error is actually a 'File not found' error, and often means that a registry entry is pointed in the wrong direction, rather than that a file is missing.

Is your machine showing any other signs of problems?

I've uploaded a file - mbaaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder mbaaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

HI all,

Just registered after seeing a similar thread on here to the issue I have.

I have a laptop with 7 Home premium 64 bit SP1 that is up to date with the exception of an IE9 update that refuses to install at all.

Have tried various different methods but to no avail including attempting to remove IE9 and then try a reinstall.

Uninstall hasn't been possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello adz76 and welcome to the forums

I've never seen a 9C48 error code from these problems before! Thank you for all of the logs, they are very helpful.

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log
You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

Download Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 7 x64 Edition (KB2675157) from Official Microsoft Download Center

If you aren't shown an 8024200D, please let me know - it isn't an issue, I would just like to know for future reference.

Hello, I am having a small issue with Windows update. Windows 7 Home Premium, 64BIT OEM on HP Pavilion.

Window Update failing error code 800736B3

I have followed the SFC, update readiness, and clean boot procedures listed in the thread I linked above. I believe I have a SIMILAR issue (not the same).

Can anyone give me a light in the proper direction?

SFC found nothing, readiness tool ran and installed hotfix but did not fix issue. I also tried to install updates 1 at a time, to not avail, as well as the clean boot.

Based on my checksur log, I have the following:

Checking Package Watchlist
(f) CBS Watchlist Package Missing 0x80070002 Microsoft-Windows-Embedded-SKU-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~0.0.0.0 Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.2.9200.16521 Package registry presence failed, possibly an orphaned package on package watchlist

But I am unsure where to go or how to continue at this point. Any sugegstions?

I got error code 9c48 when trying to install the important update for IE9. Not only has the update failed, but it has caused IE9 to be inoperable, resulting in NO browser. I can't seem to find any solution. Please help.

A:IE9 Update Failed - Error code 9c48

Try a system integrity scan
RUN > CMD > SFC /SCANNOW

Also try using firefox to access the net, then uninstall IE & download to install IE9 again.

You can try rolling back to your previous ver as well.

I have been trying to install the latest windows 7 updates for several days and all of them (14) keep failing. The same error is received for all of them, Error 8000ffff. I researched what the updates were for and it looks like they are for Windows 7 x64, I have Windows 7 x86. Also, just before this happened I started getting an error message that my windows was not genuine. But I ran the activation and it says it is genuine (I have had Windows 7 Professional for a couple of years). I did some googling and ran into several post that suggested uninstalling KB971033 (for the windows not genuine error), so I did that and the error message no longer shows.

The windows Malicious Tool update worked just fine.

Any ideas?

A:Windows 7 Update failed error 8000ffff

Uninstalling KB971033 just hides the problem, it does NOT solve it.
Please reinstall KB971033 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033 and then post an MGADiag report.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

A:IE10 Update Failed - Error 9C48

Both CheckSUR and SFC are free of problems - so we'll have to look elsewhere.

It may be a case of attempting to rip IE10 out by the roots...
command line uninstall IE10 on W7 may help with that.

Please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file and all IE*.log files

Hello I have been having problems installing Important Security Updates and optional updates onto my machine I have tried to install them several times since they was released but every time I get the same Error Code B They are the following Important - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows for x -based Systems KB - Failed Error 800B0100 Update Windows Security Update for Windows for x -based Systems KB - Security Update for Windows for x -based Systems KB - Security Update for Windows for x -based Systems KB Optional - Update for Windows for x -based Systems KB - Update for Windows for x -based Systems KB - Update for Windows for x -based Systems KB I have followed the steps from your quot Windows Update Posting Instructions quot Windows Update Failed Error 800B0100 and I have attached the logs to the thread as well However the CBS log will not allow me to read it so I created a new sfcdetails txt file on my desktop and included it with the zipped folder instead of the true CBS log file I hope that is alright There were also quot CbsPersist quot Cabinet Files in the Logs CBS folder which made the zipped file much too large so I did not include them Let me know if you do need them and I can put them on my google drive and give the link Thanks

A:Can't update Windows 7 - Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80072efd

Hi,

Try to remove the proxy server entry from the WinHTTP proxy configuration for Windows 7:

1.
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start programs and files box.
2.
Right-click cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
3.
Type the following command and then press Enter:
netsh winhttp show proxy
Note The proxy setting is listed next to Proxy Server. If there is no proxy server, Direct Access <no proxy server> is shown in the Command Prompt window.
4.
To remove the listed proxy setting, type the following command and then press Enter:

netsh winhttp reset proxy
5.
Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Update, and then try to download and install updates again.Alex Zhaozx

Hi, yesterday, Norton Antivirus detected a piece of malware in my computer. It turns out that it was a .dll under the name of DfrgAgenCtrl.dll hiding under AppData/Local/Igsoft. I had to use Norton Power Eraser to remove it but upon restart, it gives me an error "The module "C:/Users/(my name)/AppData/Local/...DfrgAgenCtrl.dll " failed to load". It occurs everytime I turn on my computer. What do I do? Thanks in advance.

A:RegSvr32 Error

Hello, try this first. Its not unusual to receive such an error after using specialized fix tools.A "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message. -->>> DfrgAgenCtrl.dllRight-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.

Hello, I have Regsvr32 error at startup. I have run ccleaner, malware bytes, and adwcleaner and am attaching appropriate the logs. Could someone please guide to fix this problem. I believe Aqnrworks, Uckjmedia, Chromium from the FRST log are part of the problem as Chromium was installed by something, not sure what and it would load up automatically at startup. I removed the files from appdata.

A:Regsvr32 error

I downloaded Autoruns and used that to remove the 3 entries mentioned above and the startup message has now disappeared. Is there anything else I need to do?

Hey guys, I really didn't know what would be the best section to post this in, but here is my problem.

A few days ago I started to get this error message. I am only getting this pop on when I either startup or restart. If I click the "ok" it goes away.

I do run Mcaffee virus protection and have also done the following

1) Ran a temp file cleaner program TFC
2) Also ran a program called malwarebyte
I tried googling the name XefKist and PivlUkfu but came up with nothing.

Just as a side note, I was having a problem with Firefox not allowing me to download anything. The malware program scan corrected the downloading problem, but I really can't say for sure if these 2 are related in anyway.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:RegSvr32 error

this looks like a typical startup remnant of some malware. Run hijack this or CC cleaner, it will probably help in clearing out the old entry point.

Hello, I recently cleaned a virus and adware from my computer. I rebooted, and I get this error message (is it serious?):

Is this from adware remaining that was not caught? or from a virus that is still there? I scanned with Spybot Search and Destroy, and Symantec Antivirus.

A:RegSvr32 - Error

I wouldn't have uninstalled viruses till after you uninstall symantech. (personal opinion)

Anyway. If your computer works properly its probably still serious. Can you post the virus check report to allow us to identify the virus removed ??

The most probable solution for this is a repair install of your operating system but don't do that yet. Post the virus log if you have it.

What i think has happened is a virus has attached/replicated or whatever to a system file. Which sucks because most of the system files are critical to the functionality and security of your pc.

lost/corrupted system files = possible exploitation.

Really struggling to fix it.

Running Windows XP with SP3 on AMD system with 512 RAM

See screenshot for details of the message.

I get this annoying pop-up on almost any program I start and sometimes it seems to pop up all on its own. It seems everything is running okay; it's just that this is an annoyance. I click OK and it disappears. I've looked in the "RUN" group in the Windows Registry; but, I don't see anything obvious.

Anyone have suggestions how I can get rid of this annoyance?

Hi Xjem and welcome to TSF, I will be happy to assist you, and do my very best to help you resolve the issue you are experiencing. Just FYI, we here at TSF are all volunteers and have real lives above and beyond this website so sometimes everyone is simply busy. Another reason that the other thread was responded to and yours wasn't is because you gave very little information about your system, which is what we look for to help us troubleshoot the problems. One last thing iit is against Forum rules to have more than one thread open at a time as it causes confusion so please close the other thread that you have open by using the thread tools option at the top of this thread and selecting solved from the drop down menu.

Ok Sorry for the lecture, LOL LOL Just wanted to make sure you have a good experience here with us. Now on to your problem.

I need a little more info before we can proceed with any fixes so here are some basic questions I need you to answer for me ok buddy? Just answer them the best you can and if you dont know an answer its ok. If you already answered anything I'm asking in your first post just skip over it.

1). What kind of computer do you have? Laptop? Desktop? Dell, HP, Ect?
2). Whats your level of experience? Novice, intermediate, expert, or dont know squat?
3). What operating system are you using? Xp Home or XP Pro? and What Service pack, SP1,2, or 3?
4). What antivirus are you using?
5) Please tell us a little about your computer. How old is your computer? Hard drive, processor, ram, video card type Ect.
6). Do you have an Xp disk for this computer?
7). Does your computer have a floppy drive, CD drive, Ect.?
8). Do you have access to another working computer with an internet connection?
9). Did you noticed this problem occuring after installing anything recently?
10). Has your computer done a windows update recently?
and anything else that might help us help you. Remember we are trying to help from a forum so all we have to go on is what you can tell us.

I will monitor this thread throughout the day. If you resolve this problem on your own or with the info I provided please let me know so I can move on to other issues. Also please mark this thread solved using the thread tools option located at the top of this thread and selecting solved from the drop down menu when your computer is working correctly and you are through with this thread so that others may benifit from it in the future.

Thank you

I have also run sfc /scannow, and all is good.

What am i doing wrong?

Im running Win 7 64bit SP1.

Thanks in advance, best forum ever.

Do you actually have that dll on the hard disk? First check, if its there try this. Navigate to the folder syswow64 by typing this in the command prompt and hitting Enter:

cd \windows\syswow64

Then type the command and hit Enter:

regsvr32 <dll path>

For convenience you can place the dll in the syswow64 folder.

Whenever I start my computer, I get the following message: LoadLibrary ("C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\dwrwpydu.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found. I have had this error for about six months now, and I do remember that it started up after I cleaned up a virus. I think it was the smitfraud issue, but I am not positive anymore. Unfortunately, I do not have any of my HiJackThis logs from that time as I have done a full format of my hard drive and a fresh install of XP. I've tried searching for help on Google, and I keep seeing a command called GetLastError, but I am not a programmer, and I have no idea how to use this. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A:Regsvr32 Error

dwrwpydu.dll could be a leftover from the infectionWhat you could try is to download Autoruns and find the dll listed and check the box by it. That should keep it from wanting to load

What can I do?

A:RegSvr32 error

-->>>The item at the end of the string you posted but is cut offRight-click on the entry and choose delete.

I have a desktop computer that is running Windows Vista. I have Adobe Reader 9 and every time I turn on my computer, Adobe Reader says it is ready to install an update to address customer issues and security vulnerabilities. I click through to install it, and after a few seconds, it gives me this error message:

Error 1325. Documents is not a valid short file name.

I don't know what to do. I tried uninstalling Adobe 9 so that I could reinstall from scratch, but I got the same exact error message when I tried to uninstall the program from the Control Panel. I tried downloading Adobe X from the Adobe website, but got the same error there as well. I don't know what to try next, but this problem is bugging me and I don't know what it means.

Thanks for your help.

Hello, I've been have several issues with my laptop ever since I swapped over my faulty C drive by Ghosting it onto another HDD. My troubleshooters all fail to run when I try to start them and Windows Update will not work despite the fact that I've checked and re-checked that the service is running. I've run sfc twice now with reboots in between and I've tried to repair install windows 7 using the tutorial provided by this forum, but I keep running into errors while trying to fix the problem.

I do not want to run a clean install unless I absolutely have to, but repairing it doesn't seem to work. I have the CBS log and the error codes from the troubleshooters if you need them.

A:Windows 7 repair install failed; error when trying to run Update

Start by running a couple of Startup Repairs to make sure the boot files are in order.

Post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Help Forums.

Did the clone hold activation after cloning? Check at Computer>Properties activation link.

If these are okay, then let's move to addressing the UPdates. Try each of these tutorials:
reset Windows Update components
System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008
Windows Update - Reset - Windows 7 Forums

Report back the results of each of these steps.

Is this the original Asus factory preinstall with the bloatware and duplicate utilities that have better versions built into Win7? If so this is a corrupt install to begin with that smothers Win7 native performance. So I'd stronglly consider doing the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 as you'd go from one of the worst possible installs to one of the best. Once you've done it you can preserve a backup image so you never have to do it again.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

i'm already try to migrate my harddrive several ways:

2. i try to use rescue and recovery (utilities from thinkvantage)
3. i try to use backup and restore center (windows complete pc backup)
all of them give me the result, everything works just fine, except i no longer can run windows update and all related to it, for example microsoft security essentials.
i already try to fix the windows update with microsoft fix it
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us with normal and aggresive mode, none of them works.

A:Windows Update Failed Error Code 0xc8000247

but when i register the dll, there are some error saying the dll is missing or not valid (something like that),
maybe some DLLs are damaged.

Please start the command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights [1] and run sfc [2]:

sfc.exe /scannow

Is it able to find and repair broken files (create the txt file shown under [2] and look if all files are restored)?

I've been getting the 9C59 error for a while with the Windows automatic updater. I've attempted a manual update of IE 10, but had the same error. Not sure where to go from here.

I've attached the CBS file.

Thanks.

A:IE 10 Update Failed - Windows 7 - Error Code 9C59

CheckSUR found and fixed a large number of errors - but there are still a couple of errors remaining, which it may be able to fix if you run the tool a second time. Please post (just) the new CheckSUR.log file afterwards.

There are a couple of errors in the CBS.log which may relate to the errors outstanding in the CheckSUR - so we need to get those fixed first, and only then see if it's affected the SFC/CBS results.

I am also getting an error 8004100E when trying to upgrade to Windows 10

Using the SUR tool I got the following log:

I have been getting help from Arc over on the BSOD section of this forum site for a few weeks now. I figured I'd start a thread here about the update troubles I've been experiencing over the past few days as well. There is one update that won't apply no matter what I try. I've run the amalgamated .bat tool posted on this forum and that didn't solve my issue. I will let my logs and screenshots speak for themselves from here, though.

Thanks in advance for any help!

As stated in the title, error code is 80073712. Also, I can't seem to get my CBS logs to upload. I keep getting an internal server error about the resource not being available. The screenshot attached perfectly fine. I will try to either edit this post to add them or add them as a comment.

Hello
I'm trying to install this update KB978637 and it always gives the 800B0100 error. I already installed the system readiness tool but I still have the same problem. Can anyone help out? I have on attachment the log files. It seems that some files are corrupted, but how do I replace them? This is a clean install of windows 7.
Cheers.

Here is a bit sophisticated because you have coruupted not only in C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages but also in C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests

I attached to post corrupted files according to path they should be placed

Two methods to fix thiese files (your choose)

METHOD I

1.Empty folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS
next download files attached to post and unpack them anywhere
2.Navigate to C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages ,takeownership of this folder and add your account to have full control
3.Copy my *.cat ,*.mum files to this folder -if you have already any file then replace it.
4.Remove your account from permissions to Packages folder
5.Restore ownership of Packages folder back to "NT Service\TrustedInstaller"
6.Go to C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests ,takeownership of this folder and add your account to have full control
7.Copy my *.manifest files to this folder -if you have already any file then replace it.
8.Remove your account from permissions to Manifests folder
9.Restore ownership of Manifests folder back to "NT Service\TrustedInstaller"

helpful links (please read them)

Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums
TrustedInstaller - Restore as Owner - Vista Forums
Folder Permissions - Vista Forums

//sometimes you may have problem to apply changes for Manifests problem even if you everything correct doing//

METHOD II (uncomfortable but always work)

1.Download attached to post FixPacks.zip file -in zip file is packed Packs folder -you have to unpack it and place directly on C: exactly as I show below:

2.Boot Win 7 DVD (if you don't have Win7 DVD instead use special recovery disk Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs — The NeoSmart Files )
Choose language>>Repair Computer>>WinRE>>command prompt

and type:

robocopy C:\Packs C:\ /E /IS

press ENTER,and next type:

del C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\*.*

press ENTER

3.Run system normally and try install updates

Hoping someone can help me here. I have seen Noel DP post several resolutions but each seem custom to the errors the other user gets.

I ran SFC/Scannow with no errors. Ran Checksur and got errors.

This sounds to me like you may have to try going in and deleting the windows update catalog files and re running windows update and see what happens. If that doesnt solve the issue post back and we can take it from there.

I'm trying to install update KB2639308 but it keeps saying that it fails and gives me the error code WindowsUpdate_FFFFFFFE. I looked it up online and it says that it can't update because of malware. However, when I run Norton and do a full system scan it doesn't find anything. I also tried to fix it with the Windows Update Troubleshooter and that doesn't help either. Is there anything else I can do without having to fully reinstall Windows 7 like the info on the site says? Please help.

A:Failed Windows Update, error code WindowsUpdate_FFFFFFFE

Hi,

A pre-requisite for this update is having Service Pack 1 installed. Can you confirm that this is the case?

Also, which version of Norton are you running? Is it the very latest? I have found posts where running Microsoft's own MSE doesn't find any malware, yet the error this occurs, so lets try something totally different:

Please perform an online virus scan using ESET
ESET Online Scanner

Can you also please run this tool to allow us to diagnose any other conditions that might prevent this update installing:

1. Click the Continue button.
2. Click Copy button (ignore any error messages if they appear)
3. Paste the results here in your next reply

Basically when I tried to do a windows update, it downloaded about 5 other updates and installed them, but 2 updates did not download. Instead of "Downloading [updatename]... complete!" it says it failed. I tried to download/install them again after a system restart (had to restart for the updates that DID install) but no luck. I tried disabling my firewall and antivirus and tried again, didn't do anything. The error code is 0x80070005, and it just says to install the update again (which I can't do...). Specifically, the updates are "Update for Windows XP (KB951072)" and "Security Update for Windows XP (KB950974)"

Is anyone else having this problem or have any idea what to do?

Hi everyone,

I have had this issue since September now and cannot seem to fix it,

The Windows update does not seem to be able to get past KB2943357 or KB2937610.
Worst part is that it attempts to install them every time I shut down resulting in a +20 minute shutdown every time.

- For SURT : i have downloaded and installed the KB947821 twice, first time it found errors, second time it didn't.

- SFC scan : Results are in the CBS.log file
- Windows error codes : 80073712

I use Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium x64

I hope you all can help me, ive been struggling with it for months now.

I have Paint SHop Pro and I installed it on my Vista OS desktop.
I have een using PSP6 since forever and although I have PSP 6 - 20 I prefer using ver 6.
Problem is I get an error when I start PSP6.
It says "failed to update system registry. try using REEDIT.
I am scared to death of messing w/REGEDIT.
If I click "OK" the program starts and works fine, it is just annnoying.
Any ideas short of having to use a newer PSP?

Thanks in advance!

Rhonda

Hi. . .

Upgrade to Paint Shop Pro vX2 (12) as soon as possible! I'm glad to hear that the possible use of REGEDIT scares you. Good move not to edit the registry keys to retrofit a product that really should not run on a system newer than Windows 98 (platform NT 4.0). Editing those registry keys under Vista could have been disasterous as many have changed under Vista as compared with Windows 98. For info, the "NT" referred to by Jasc Software, Inc., the makers of Paint Shop Pro, is the platform used by all versions of Windows since the introduction of Windows 3.1 in 1993. The basic versions of NT are:

NT 4.0 - Windows 98
NT 5.0 - Windows 2000
NT 5.1 - Windows XP 32-bit (x86) architecture
NT 5.2 - Windows XP 64-bit (x64) architecture
NT 6.0 - Windows Vista

The version of Paint Shop Pro that you are trying to run - v6 (NT 4.0) - is simply not compatable whith Vista (NT 6.0). Here is a list of Paint Shop Pro version #'s and the Windows systems it will run under:

v 6.01 - Windows 95/98 or NT 4.0
v 7.0 & 7.04 - Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP(NT4)
v 8.0 - Windows XP (NT5)/ 2000 / Me
v 9.0 - Windows XP / 2000 / Me / 98
v X (10) - Windows XP / 2000
v XI (11) Windows XP
v X2 (12) - Windows Vista / XP (NT 5.x/ NT 6.0)

Sure older versions of Paint Shop Pro (PSP) may run under newer versions of Windows, but it's (PSP) behavior may be unpredicatable.

Good Luck. . .
