I have a strange issue where after a full shut down in Windows 10, the motherboard is still delivering power to my connected devices such as my headset, keyboard, mouse and monitors i.e. all the lights on these devices are still on, whereas previously in Win7 they would all turn off.
I did an in-place upgrade from Win7-Win10 and adjusted no motherboard BIOS settings.
I've looked through the Win10 power options and can;t see anything relating to keeping devices on after a shut down. I assume this is so USB devices like phones and tablets can charge from USB when the PC is off? However I don;t need this feature if that's the intention.
Any ideas? Is windows 10 (vs win7) sending a different command back to the MB on a shutdown?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Some motherboards have a USB power feature even when the computer is switched on.
This sound like your issue. This can be adjusted in the BIOS settings.
Look in the BIOS for an option called EUP Turn it off.
Or maybe ErP Ready. Turn it on.
Edit: One more thought... when you installed the motherboard chipset drivers you may have installed a small program that allows for the charging of USB devices when the PC is off.
I stripped an old chassis and am rebuilding around H97i-PLUSMOB (PSU is Solid Gear FLEX/Mini ITX 320W #SDGR-FLEX320 and CPU is i3-4160).
When MOB & PSU are connected, the MOB Standby Power LEDlights up. However, when 10-1 pin F_PANEL POWER BUTTON pins are shorted together, the MOB does NOT turnON.
Please suggest next steps to troubleshoot. Thanks.

When you attempt to start it, do you get anything at all like fans starting, led lights? Are you sure you have the FP Connectors plugged onto the correct pins with the correct polarity? The power button shouldn't make any difference as to polarity. The obvious suggestion would be to make sure all power connectors (24 pin and the 4/8 pin CPU connection)are plugged into the proper connections, and completely seated. Believe it or not, 1/16th of an inch can make a huge difference. If you have a graphics card installed, check those connections also. Are you running a BIOS version of 2100 or above?
Failing all of that, I would disconnect the DVD/CD drive, all hard drives and remove any graphics card you may have installed in the machine, use 1 stick of ram, disconnect all FP wires except the power switch and try to start it. Also, check your manual and see that you have the ram completely seated in the recommended slots. Do you have a Motherboard speaker installed? Are you getting any beeps from it? Any further info you could give us would be helpful in diagnosing it.
Did you install the standoffs in the correct positions making sure there are no extras and ALL standoffs line up with a motherboard hole with no extra standoffs?

I received the free win 10 upgrade from an invitation to reserve the upgrade. The other day, a Ransomware hit me, and though I believe I may have immediately tracked & deleted all affected files I could find, I hardly believe I could be so skilled as to be successful.
I had this happen last year, and ended up formatting the unit, and reloading Win 7. I don't want to have to go back to 7, but how do I get another Win 10? Is there a key I need to find & save? A free site that I can get a copy on a flash drive to load from? Any help would be appreciated. I have no clue how to proceed since it's an online download, and once formatted, the unit won't be able to get online without the OS
you can download the newest build of windows 10 > http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10
boot from the setup media - remove every partition (wipe) the HDD
and clean install widows 10
since you already had win7 and windows 10 on that PC - if asked for product key - just skip that screen
I am not sure if I have win 8.1 pro or win 8.1Says 8.1 pro in mscinfo but doesnt allow me to install win 8.1 pro features. Anyway that is not the issue I am writing about. Issue is , I had my laptop crashed 1 month after I installed Win 10. it required HD replacement by HP, at which stage I was told not to ugrade to win 10 as my laptop will not handle it. My Question is:free upgrade to wn 10 ends soon.what happens when my OS will no longer be supported by MSWhat is actually the problem that causes HP notebooks to crash? Is there a feature in win 10 that can be turned off to avoid causing the crash?Atleast we can keep up with the updates!! Need some help to understand what the actual issue is and if there has been some workaround found by now.SDhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Win10-upgrade-deadline-arrived-cannot-upgrade-what-next/td-p/5688369
Windows 10 Home Premium is currently installed on my desktop PC (1 GB HDD, 4GB RAM).
There's been quite a few problems with the Gigabyte motherboard, and I'd like to change to a new motherboard, while keeping the Intel Processor, RAM, HDD and DVD drive unchanged. Even the case and the power unit would remain unchanged.
I plan to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium, and then upgrade to Windows 10 using the Win10 .iso.
But would that be OK by Microsoft's system and rules ? Am asking because apparently Windows 10 when installed and activated gets tied with the specific hardware. Have heard that one can't activate again with different hardware.
I've purchased all the components for my new PC..and it includes a completely new chipset on the motherboard (1151). I recently purchased a windows 10 key from here (Windows 10 Home 32-bit/64-bit English International: Amazon.co.uk: Software). The USB flash drive Home version.
I've read around that with windows 10, if you upgrade your motherboard then you need to purchase a new key. I was planning on reinstalling it anyway.
Just wanted to ask if anybody knows if this is a retail version or an OEM?
For my new PC, I have upgraded everything apart from my SSD and HDD's
Run Showkey plus from this forum and it will tell you if your product key is retail or OEM:

Hello can you please tell me if it is possible to transfer my Windows 10 Home OEM (anniversary update) licence that i got by upgrading from Windows 8.1 Home OEM to a new PC, that is, i just want to upgrade my motherboard and cpu, ssd because of poor perfomance?
Can I use the process that they added in the new anniversary update, that if you connect your licence to a Microsoft account you will be able to transfer it?
Also once i transfer it, can i switch back to a local account and have it activated?
Hope you help
The way I understand it, that is the idea of that wizard....
What I'd like to know is if it's perpetual.. i.e how many different h/w scenarios can it be tansferred to ...(like eg. FPP Retail keys have a max of up to 10 activations)
I could use some creative customer service here. My M3800 shipped with the known power-on motherboard defect. It was replaced at no charge, which was very nice. However, the replacement (2nd motherboard!) is now having the same intermittent dead / no power problem.
To get the computer running, I have to remove the case (12 screws) and un-plug the internal battery to 're-set' the electrical fault. After I put it back together, the computer starts normally. This is not very convenient, especially when meeting with new clients.
The problem is that I am being told I am outside the 3-month repair warranty. I think this stinks! It's a known issue and I would like someone at Dell to step up make my expensive computer work normally all of he time.
Yes, I have run every diagnostic known to man and the internet.
Is there any power management to change the charging limit and threshold for P50/P70 on Windows 10?
Go to Solution.
Unfortunately, since Windows 7 there is no method to do this through the Power Manager. However, there are registry entries that will allow you to set your own start and stop percentage points for the battery to charge. This thread will walk you through editing those registry keys: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Windows-10-charges-T450s-to-100-charging-threshold-not-respe...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Power-management-for-P50-P70-Win10/td-p/3309489
My wife's computer could not upgrade to win 10 cause it had an old video card. I upgrade motherboard and video card. Win 7 is registered, but can not upgrade. The free upgrade tool still shows the other video card. Tried the media creation tool and still goes back to the upgrade box with the old card. Is there anyway to erase that upgrade box and redue it?
Check for any left over files or drivers from your old video card. Windows is still finding it somewhere. Check your device manager 1st just to see if its listing 2 video cards, then check your program folders for any left overs. Also just for backup reasons, download a program on this forum called Showkey which will give you the information on your currant Windows Key, incase you need it to upgrade to Windows 10.
I have an older laptop (probably 6-7 years old, Dell Inspiron running Windows 7) and its been running fairly slow lately. I saw a notice that today is the last day to upgrade to Win10 for free. Just looking for some good advice on whether or not I should even consider upgrading.
My first thought is that, with an older machine, I probably have a lot of junk on my hard drive causing the slowness so I need to clean it up (which means I'll miss the "today is the last day" bit...but do I really care?). I also think maybe my processor won't be able to handle the new version, but not sure if that's really a concern or not.
Can I ask for some advice? Thanks

it not - July 2016 is
whats the exact model and also the service tag number
make sure there are windows 10 drivers available for the PC
you could always make a recovery set of DVDs (if you havent already , and i would advise you make them anyway) and do a windows 7 clean install
you may have a lot of startups or even malware on the PC slowing it down
Has anyone upgraded to Windows 10 on the hp 110-414 have you got any problems or bugs with it and is it running well on it and do you think I should upgrade
Because you may find that you need to install the Windows 10 driver for it after upgrading. With most notebooks there are two or three different adapters that could be installed. It helps to what is installed in yours. Use the search functiion in the forum and search for windows 10 wifi driver. You will notice that many members did not take the time to either locate the driver or know what is installed.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Hp-110-414-Win10-Upgrade/td-p/5579588
When Win10 was released, I was offline.
Now I can't upgrade! I've reserved an upgrade, but it won't ask me to upgrade!
Welcome to the forum,
It hasn't asked me yet either, but that doesn't mean you can't upgrade.
You can do it manually, starting at step three here,

When I upgrade my 32 bit win 7 computer to win 10 can I choose to upgrade to 64 bit win 10?
You cannot do an in place upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. Going from 32-bit to 64-bit requires a clean install.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/56098-upgrade-32-bit-win-7-64-bit-win10.html
i am runing a toshiba satelite using windows 7. the laptop originally came with windows 8, i couldnt bear the change so i switched back to 7 and today i want to get a legit copy of windows 10 -- that will last for over 1 year -- installed after reinstalling windows 8 (my win 7 isn't licensed). after running "ProduKey" i found a "windows BIOS OEM key" that apparently belongs to the OEM win 8.
can i install 8.1 with my win 8 OEM product key?
can i upgrade directly from windows 8 to 10 or do i need to update from 8 to 8.1 and from there upgrade to 10?
can i use the retail win 8 istallation files with an OEM product key or do i need the toshiba OEM installation files?
thank you very much for any help!
No need to install windows 8 - just install windows 8.1 via ISO and then upgrade to windows 10 via ISO
windows 10 just needs to see the activation of windows 7 or windows 8.1 to activate itself..
Been a long time 5+ years since I reloaded windows. Is it better to reload it and go to Win10 or
Just go to Win 10 and hope for the best.... Only problem is the browsers are running a little slow

The free upgrade applies to qualified computers that are running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8/8.1.
It does NOT apply to computers that are running Windows Vista.
I have now decided to bite the bullet and go for the Win10 upgrade. Before I do I would like to know more about the procedure, Can anyone direct me to a good source of information on the subject.

My current computer has a retail copy of Win8. I'm building a new PC this weekend and I want to utilize the free upgrade to Win10 from my current retail version of 8, but I understand the free upgrade is tied to hardware.
Would my best option be to migrate Win8 to the new PC and upgrade from there? Alternatively, would I be better to just upgrade to 10 now and then migrate to the new PC afterwards? I imagine I can just discover the product key using something like Belarc Advisor, but then I don't know if the key will be accepted for activation on the new hardware... Thoughts?

Hi everyone, this is my first visit and post and I hope you can assist
where others have failed. I have tried to install Win 10
on two machines and neither of them would work, both telling me that the CPU was not
good enough or words to that effect.
PC1 has Intel Pent G3220 3.00 GHz Haswell chip.
PC2 has Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz.
Both of these are way over the required
minimum spec so I cannot understand why Win10 will not install.
Welcome to the forum. Its likely either your cpu cant handle PAE, NX and SSE2 or its not set in the bios
To test for PAE, NX, and SSE2, download a program called "CPU-Z" and run it. On the main window, look under the "Instructions" heading for SSE2, EM64T (which also indicates the processor supports PAE) and either VT-d or VT-x, which is required for NX support. If you have all 3, then you are good to go.
Hello i have a L50-B-1P1 laptop and i`m experiencing a few problems after windows 10 upgrade
1 R7 video driver missing so no catalyst present therefore i have low frames and frezess in games
2 Microphone producing garbeld voice when recording
I know that the series is discontinued but there should be some kind of fix for the problems i`m experiencing atm.
I don`t want to downgrade to wind 8.1/7
What are your exact spec, Processor, RAM and OS type 32 bit / 64 bit
Depending on what it is you may be able to use the new AMD Crimson drivers instead. I have a L50D-C-13G and I abandoned the catalyst drivers for Crimson drivers and my machine is running great. I have an A10-8700P Carrizo R6 with windows 8.1 and it works great for me. The driver lists compatible hardware, read through it and see if your machine is supported.

Hi all, i have a Precision M4700 with windows 7 SP1 OEM, i'm confused, can i install windows 10 pro for free or do i have to purchase an upgrade license (if i do it now, before the 29th July) ?
Consider i work in an Enterprise environment but the license applied to my PC is the OEM, not the one under Corporate agreement.
Thanks for a clarification/confirmation.
Yes, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. You will also need to update the drivers to Windows 10 as well. Click the link below to download the drivers for your M4700.

I have a Sony VGC-RB42G computer. I recently moved my computer, cleaned off all the dust, and when I plugged everything back in, it won't power up. The light on the power supply blinks green, inside the motherboard also has a green light that blinks as well. It has a ticking sound too, but I am not sure if it is coming from the power supply or the motherboard. Any idea what could be wrong.
FYI, I have already unplugged everything from the power supply, pulled out the ram, checked the battery, and put everything back together and still no change. One thing I thought was strange was after I unplugged everything, I pulled the power into the power supply again and this time the green light came on but did not blink. It stayed solid.
Sounds like a Power Supply problem.
Hi, I just bought an HP pavilion e9300 a few week ago. And I am going to upgrade the power supply so that I can get a new graphic card--ATI 4870 which requires at least 500 watt power supply. My current computer is shipped with a 350 watt power supply. I will probably get a 650 watt considering the 70% effeciency of power supply.
However, when I talked to an HP technician, he insisted that I could go for a power supply with no more 450 watt. Because the system I just got has a motherboard which has a max power limit 450 watt. He said if I go beyond that, the motherboard will burn out.
So what shall I do? I really want to get ATI 4870 work well on my computer.
Thx very much.
The long answer is "No".
Just be sure of the dimensions of the power supply before you order a replacement, as HP uses some pretty strange sizes sometimes, and you want the new one to fit with room to spare.
It's been a while since I built a system from scratch and have a... errr... simple question
gfx: Sapphire HD3850 512MB Ultimate (passive)
MB: MSI P35 Neo2 FIR
PSU: Seasonic M12II 500W
The motherboard has a power connector for the graphic card next to the slot.
Is there any reason I should connect the power for the card to the power connector on the board instead of directly to the power supply?
First time I have ever seen that feature. I like it. I'm thinking that is a neat/easy way to partially eliminate cable clutter from the PSU. Give it a shot, you can always revert to PSU cable if you wish.
I have set the sleep mode and screen off mode both to never yet since upgrading to windows 10 if my laptop is inactive for 5 or so minutes it switches off.

Hiya peoples, I've been tasked with testing a Win10 upgrade on this 20C0 Yoga and am trying to either find driver or what I need to turn off in the Bios. I experience a very frequent BSODs. I've searched the inet for the symptom, everyone blames Alcohool 120%. I've never had it.
I attach the system information file with 50 minidumps. I would be thankful if you could help me to identify the reason for these BSODS.
Thanks in advance.
I have three computers in family that were given upgrades on the win7 family plan. One was just informed it was eligible for win10 upgrade. I think I made the mistake of custom install (for a clean install) instead of an upgrade and, related to other problems with windows update, I might have lost my activation on win7. Long story short, when I got to the point where win10 was installed and asking for a key I knew I had done a no no as, if I had done it correctly, I should not have been asked for a key. Of course I have no key but the win7 key and the install just sits there with no options but to input the key, which I don't have. What's my best course of action here?
thanks in advance
If you haven't already, you should be able to enter the Windows 7 product key to activate Windows 10 if it's for the same edition and language.
I decided to try and upgrade my HP Pavilion n sa laptop to Win from win The GET Windows quot Check Your PC quot report says that PC will work with Win There is nothing incompatible All Items are ticked I booted from a USB copy of the ISO created as says on not it. upgrade laptop HP I MS has my can't tested win10 by the Media Creation toolkit downloaded from MS and which upgrade my Desktop machine with no problems I accepted the License set the language and currency to UK and choose Upgrade to keep my files and Apps intact After a while of it checking my Laptop it showed a message quot The computer Started using the Windows Installtion media remove the media and restart windows so that it restarts normally then insert media and restart the upgrade quot Which I follow to the Letter then I get the message quot This PC can't run windows you can't MS says I can't upgrade my laptop as HP has not tested win10 on it. install windows on a USB Flash Drive using setup quot I had MS on my laptop for well over hours yesterday checking my PC meets minimum requirements and recreating Win images to update my machine They tried using other tools to create USB Flash drive images using MS says I can't upgrade my laptop as HP has not tested win10 on it. ISO burned to DVD and when they could not get it to work they say HP has not tested it with Win and to get them to do that and go back to MS On the HP website it says quot Note If you have a PC newer than August there is a good chance that your product can be upgraded Continue to the Microsoft Upgrade experience quot I bought the machine in December Has any one had the same problems or updated with no problems Where do I go now Will a clean install work or not Thanks Pete
I'll take a stab at this one..
From my experience with HP they do drop support for some of the products and you get stuck with the last OS that was installed on it.,. for example I had a nice desktop and it only would support Win7. When I tried to run Win8 on it .. well it would work fine but when I went to shut it down for the night and restart it that's when it would fail. Seems HP will not provide the updates to support new OS's. And this also applies to other OEM's.
Now having said all of that here is one option you have. Make sure you can make a system backup and backup your personal data. When that's done make sure you can restore the system and you're comfortable with the process.
At this point you could perform a clean instillation of 10 and see what happens. IF it fails to work properly just restore your PC to the previous settings with the backup you made.
... yes.. complicated but that's the best advice I can offer at the moment
And welcome to the forums
Hey guys, Yesterday i tried to upgrade my g505-s from win8.1 to win10, but since it didnt work i got an iso and a stick and decided to cleaninstall it.Now that i installed it i have the problem that it shuts down while booting or if it boots in the first few minutes of beeing booted. No such problems occured before win10.I already contacted ms-support who led me here. I'm thankful for any help/supportYours Meehrrettichhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Series-Notebooks/g505-s-shuts-itself-down-after-win10-upgrade/td-p/3334922
I upgraded to win10 from win7 and started having a problem so I reverted back to win7. The problems from the upgrade followed me back with the revert to win7. The problems have to do with files and folders. I cannot create a file (doc) and save it to my documents file folder. I get a message "you don't have permission to save to this location" contact administrator. Incidentally, I'm the only user of this computer and always have been. I also get a message when trying to open an existing file " document file is locked for editing by (me or unknown user)
I'm totally confused not knowing how to get by this "file locked for editing" and "administrator privilege" needed.
Please tell me how to get around this.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Like in the topic. Please help; after upgrading to Win 10 there is no keys-backlight after using the FN + Z combination. in bios (after upgrading) everything is fine; so when I turn backlight ON or OFF backlight runs out, but there is problem with Toshiba Funcktion Key driver I think.
I did the reinstalation of this driver, have others toshiba drivers for Win 10 installed (Eco, system driver etc.). Toshiba Funckction key runs for several seconds after system bots up, and is blocked (?) by something after jus several seconds. Weird and very annoying. The fun is that combination for screen brightness (FN + F6 or F7) and for volume up/down (FN + 3 / 4) runs perfectly vell. Backlight
I think the problem is connected with Toshiba Funcktion Key program.
Please help ! Portege is the top class of Toshiba laptops.

A "client" has a problem with WLM 2012 after upgrade/roll back to Win10 - W7.
Here the existing pop account can receive mails but no mails are sent via smtp.
Also creation of a new/other e-mail (Gmail or pop) account is not possible.
Reinstallation of WLM 2012 did was not successful.
Installation and configration of Mozilla Thunderbird, everything work very well.
My "client" was satisfied with this solution.
I have a collegue helper, who has a simular problem (W7); no send/reply;
did WLM recovery function, deleted "Mail.MSMessageStore"; uninstalled WLM2012 cleaned up
revo uninstaller also registry; reinstalled WLM2012; but no success.
Thunderbird worked perfect, but his client likes to use WLM.
What can be done to get WLM working again?
My laptop was victim of a virus that destroyed some register files and even System Restore could not fix it. My only choice is to format the hdd and reset to the OS in the chip which is Win 8, but I had already upgraded to Win 10. How can I recover my Win 10 Key so I can reinstall and activate Win 10?
Thanks / Arturo
There is no free key. If your computer came with Windows 8.x, the key is in the bios. If you wish to install from the iso, do the install without activation, then once you get into the GUI, then do the activation and it will go through.http://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/62231-how-recover-win10-key-free-upgrade-8-1-a.html
You were all so helpful in getting me through my last Win10 experience that I decided to give it another go
I just finished upgrading my kids' PC from Win7 to Win10, and since the upgrade the system has been hard-freezing -- no responsiveness from mouse or keyboard, screen frozen in place.
I'd heard that there may be issues with USB drivers (since the motherboard is fairly old), so I reinstalled the latest from Gigabyte earlier today, but no dice.
Any advice would as always be appreciated! Thanks in advance,
Thinkpad W540 will not upgrade to Win10 via Windows Update. Have also downloaded Media Creation Tool and Win10 iso file. All are 64-bit as is my processor and current Win8.1 Pro w/ Media Center. Have tried running MCT and iso as administrator with no success. I'm running out of time for a free upgrade! System has 8GB RAM and plenty of free space on hard drive. All 8.1 updates and patches are installed. All drivers are updated. Please help!
Moderator comment: Model added to subject for clarity.
OOPS -- saw you tried this already. ------------------------------------Have you tried obtaining the upgrade directly from Microsoft via their Win10 Media Creation tool? You will be able to download an entire .ISO file to burn a CD or create a bootable USB stick: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 This works better, sometimes, than the Windows upgrade pestering message. Good luck!----------------------------------------- How are you fixed for disk space? The upgrade needs qute a bit of extra room ~ 5 - 10 GB, at least, to store previous machine state.

I now have at least two stations that are having graphics problems. I can't seem to find a driver that is compatiblen with the on-board adapter.I have tried installing Radeon HD 8370D drivers from Windows Update, Lenovo Support, and from AMD's site. In all cases the system BSOD until I remove what was installed. I do have M78-10BR that upgrade perfectly with driver 15.200.1036.0. Is it possible to upgrade a C875-15G to Win10? Currently it's not on the list of supported laptops on the Toshiba website, but Win10 compatibility check does not encounter any issues.
Did somebody tried to upgrade such a laptop already?
I tried to upgrade in 2014 but that didnt work.
Some problems with the taskbar and cpu tied up continuously.
I had the same problems with a dell running on w7. Recently I upgraded the last one again and it runs well now.
So I am planning to upgrade the C875-15G again tot W10 again shortely.
Are there any reports from successful installation on the C875-15G?
I upgraded a few days ago on my ACER Aspire 605G from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and I lost wifi capability. After upgrading numerous drivers, The Qualcomm Atheros Wireless LA Driver gave a message that said, "The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system. Insert or reinsert now." Is that the root of the problem. How do I fix the wifi access? I downloaded the upgrade by means of the "Windows10UpgraderApp", it completed the initial check and the whole download. At the second restart the installation got stuck at 32%. Switching off the pc, the previous release was automatically restored in few minutes.
It's an almost powerful laptop. I have large amount of RAM and HD space available. The current version is 1511, build SO 10586.589
I upgraded from win 8.1 to win 10, now I can't turn windows firewall, Tried fixing permissions, still no good. What do I do first?
Hp ProBook Core i5 8 gigs ram
Press the "Windows Button" and "R" simultaneously.
Typ in cmd
A new window will open.
Typ in netsh advfirewall show allprofiles state
You'll see the status of the Firewall for Domain, Private and Public profile.
Which ones are ON and which ones are OFF?
I'm still on Win7, I noticed that their pop up window to install Win10 has changed, there is no option to select another date for the install, it were only ever 3 days ahead anyhow.
I'm wondering, is the free offer coming to an end then?
Looking through some of the past threads on here, I see that some have reverted back to their old OS after dabbling with Win10, I'm wondering if I should even bother/risk trying it to be honest?.....Although I dare say that I'll be forced to in the end.
The offer is for a year - July 2016 (it was released on 29th July 2015)
Upgraded Edge 15 from Win8.1 to Win10 today. Everything was fine, then an installation file got stuck so I held power button for a forced shutdown. When I power up again, I get nothing, just a blank screen. (I didn't even see Lenovo logo) After another power cycles I saw a "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen, then it went away and I am still stuck at a blank screen, from the sound of hard drive it's not reading.I also tried booting to "Windows boot manager" and hard-drive, both got blank screen. I have a friend with WIN7 64 bit just like me. He received a message about upgrading to WIN10. He clicked on the X at the top right. It downloaded the update but he did not install it. It keeps asking about installing the upgrade.
What can he do to remove the WIN10 upgrade download?
What can we do to permanently remove any request to upgrade. Neither of us are computer gurus. We need a step by step simple procedure to stop any updates or requests for WIN10.
We have no desire for WIN10. Thanks, Bob.
The simplest way is to use a tool that automates the change of settings required to prevent the forced downgrade to Windows 10. Download the Never10 utility and it will disable the Win10 download. Extensive documentation and explanations are on its site.http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/396921-disabling-win10-upgrade-win7-64-bit.html
I downloaded the upgrade as instructed and when it reached the 100% mark, everything stopped. The download took me 5 hours! (I don't have a very good ISP speed in my area). The problem is, where is the download now? I've searched the 'downloads' file and I cannot seem to find it. Maybe it has been placed in a separate file of its own. Could you please tell me what the name of the file might be and where I may be able to find it.

I've a A70 ThinkCentre initialy with W7.
Since the update (almost compulsory) towards Windows 10, my explorer of files closes alone, approximately every 53 seconds... To describe a little more my "breakdown" after my tries of this evening: it is the process " explorer Windows " that is reset doubt approximately the 50 seconds. So closes the explorer, the configuration panel, etc. Everything closes at the same time. The desk becomes black some milliseconds then re-appears.It occurs permanently, even if the explorer is not opened, the desk resets...As if something made the " end of spot "...What's to be done?
Is the A70 compatible with W10?
Mod: edited title to add system type and clarify problem
Go to Solution.
The A70 is not on the list of Lenovo Win 10 supported systems. Your Intel processor is several generations before official Win 10 starts.
There are ways to prevent Win 10 reminders and unwanted automatic downloads, Google for them.

It seems according to the update history, my computer is trying to upgrade itself to Windows 10 automatically. Can it actually do this without asking me? I didn't reserve the upgrade so it shouldn't be trying to upgrade. Did it fail noticing that I didn't reserve the upgrade?
Scared and Very Confused - Windows 10
I bought this in Nov, 2012, Win7 SP1. I would like to update to Win10, but I'm not sure the Broadcom WLAN driver will work in Win10. The adapter version is 5.60.350.6 (3/22/2010), BCMWL664.SYS. Downloaded Win10 to my Win 8.1 desktop. Received following error messages upon attempted install finish:
"The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation"
Have un-installed all security and all non-essential drivers and programs.
I've been hesitant to upgrade any of my PCs from 7 to 10, because it is not a clean install.
I want to be able to upgrade, but from a clean install, so that I have the ability to revert back to a windows 7 capture of my system if I find 10 to be unsavory.
Is there a way to register my hardware or obtain a windows 10 license key, via an upgrade without having to go through the process of having 10 installed on top of my 7 system?

Greetings, Win 7 upgrades to Win 10 can be problematic with no easy way back to Win 7 unless you have a good image and bootable rescue media. The safest way to upgrade is to clone your existing Win 7 install to a second HDD or SSD. Connect only the cloned HDD to your PC to do the upgrade. Carefully read this entire article by Ed Bott to learn what needs to be done, and the time invested, if you have to rebuild Windows 7. Win 10 may have the correct WLAN driver as well as all other drivers needed to run correctly or the upgrade could choke. You still have the original Win 7 install on the first HDD and can move on with your computing life. Hi Guy's I have a Win laptop and a Win desktop I like a lot of what I've read about Win although not all But I was hoping that the laptop would be offered it first It's a refurb That I only recently bought My intention was to install slide shows of my art work and use it to show potential customers Anyway I was hoping to install Win on that and put it through it's paces That way I could decide before upgrading my main PC Unfotunately it hasn't worked out that way Yesterday Win downloaded to my desktop PC It said click here to upgrade I was panicing and got a tad twitchy But was pacified when but wants I now! upgrade to 'Win10' to it time need decide, it went on to say - Expect a second prep of your device - Review the licence agreement - Choose when to upgrade Phew it was number 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! that made me relax Remembering I'd read you can wait for almost a year before 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! making up your mind So I pressed the 'OK let's continue' button Did then now I'm faced with no problem I thought but hereby lies the rub Choose a date and time when you want to install the upgrade These are the choices I get HELP

When shutting down my PC yesterday I was informed of a Win10 update. The next morning I learned that now my external monitor does enter power saving mode, although the day before it worked just fine as an extended screen. The LG Flatron W2361V is connected through a DVI cable on the HDMI connection with a DVI - HDMI adapter on my MSI GE62 6QF. The Laptop does not recognize anything connected in the Windows Display Settings, but unplugging the cable makes my external monitor prompt me to "CHECK SIGNAL CABLE". Any advice on how to solve this problem?
The monitor isn't the problem, the laptop is. Completely shut it down, then restart.http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-10/external-monitor-not-recognize-on-win10-but-power-saving/755.html
During the install of Win10 on July 29 there was a power outage. The first retry was successful using the Media Creation Tool on the 30th then another outage that interrupted the download the same evening. I tried to resume using the Media Creation Tool on the 31st...its not working. The msg regarding the MCT is "there was a problem starting Setup..."
Please provide me with assistance to finish this process. The time period gap in attempting to resume is because I am updating my small office computer that is away from my home.
I need to upgrade to Win10. The current GeForce 7500 LE video in my HP Pavilion H8-1200z is not supported and Nvidia is not writing a new driver for it. I purchased a PowerColor Radeon HD5450 1GB which is supported by Win10. My system will not produce any video when powered on after the HD5450 video card is installed. There was a suggestion elsewhere on the web that I may need to update the MB BIOS to support this "supposedly" backward compatible PCIe card. There is no newer BIOS listed on the HP support site for this Gigabyte MB. Is there any way to get this video upgrade to work in my PC?
Yes, I am confused as to why it does not work either. Possibly try a Geforce 5** series or 6** series card that also supports Windows 10. The actual card that started is problem is not a terrific performer, so maybe a lower card in the Geforce 5** or 6** series will do.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/Video-card-update-for-Win10-support-does-not-power-on/td-p/5577946
Since I upgraded to Win10, Carbonite cannot seem to catch up on its backups. The number of pending files seems to keep growing, even during a backup. Is there any known problem with Carbonite on Win10? I am on version 5.5.5 build4151.
according to carbonite website 5.7.7
However this is so new - Windows 10 I mean, that unless someone who actually uses Carbonite and windows 10 replies the best avenue of enquiry is definitely Carbonite
Wireless realtek 8188CE connects fine under windows 7. Upgraded to windows 10 and it no longer fully connects. It will recognize my network but will always connect with limited (non-web) connection. I have tried various drivers, reboots of computer, router, dsl modem with no luck resolving the problem. The only way I can get online with this computer is to roll back to windows 7. I have uninstalled windows 10 so many times I lost count. I have also tried wiping the hd and starting fresh with no luck either. Please help!!!

I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ57 Notebook and issues with the Wireless not connecting after an update. Some say you could restore the BIOS to factory defaults help with this. Here is a document that shows you how to restore BIOS factory default settings. That way it will look at the Hardware installed on the Notebook. You can try this download: sp59181.exe. Driver support from Realtek ended for the RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter ended with Windows 8. You could try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows. Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed! Please let me know how this goes. You can say thanks for trying to help by clicking the Thumbs Up below! Hey, I am facing an error. I am trying to install win10. I am on win7 x32bit. I have official win10 iso from ms official site. Also I once installed 10 using this file but now it gives me error code 0xc19001-0x20017 something like safe_os phase error during boot. I tried many fixes like uninstalling antivirus software and all. Now I am tired. So looking forward to the solution. Please help me out.

Looks like the old Intel bios microcode update causing those shenanigans - see here
I Upgraded to Windows 10 in late June. I've never used my cd/dvd player, but when I attempted to, it did not play my cd. I also realized I had NO Audio when I played YouTube Videos, nor when I was watching videos on FaceBook, nor any other website. Yesterday, while attending a GoToWebinar, I was given a choice of Audio Format, and I got SOUND!!! However, I could not repeat that success on YouTube, etc. I've been using the Earphone Jack in the Top Front of my Envy Tower. I do get Audio if I plug into a Rear Headphone Jack, but I want to know what's the Problem with the Front Jack, and my CD Player. I tried Updating my Audio Drivers, and anything else I could find, both on Windows And HP Support. Please: HELP!
Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to try this W10 IDT desktop PC driver. Install and restart the PC. This package provides the Tempo High Definition Audio Driver for supported desktop models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp71717.exehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Audio/No-BeatsAudio-No-Audio-Post-Win10-Upgrade/td-p/5785621
I have my DVD unit not working. It appears as unit, it starts but it does access the disks I insert (It makes some noise as it works, but keep repeating please insert a disk.
I understand that in windows 8.1 dvd drivers were with among the chipset ones, so that it was enough re-installing them.
How to do the same in windows 10 system? Any idea?
I'm Frank, SC, US.
I really wrecked my HP laptop with Windows 8.1.
There is so many issues that I believe a system reset would be appropriate, I've done it many times on other machines and at least twice on this one. But no matter what I try, SYSTEM REFRESH nor SYSTEM RESET will not run. Various ACCESS DENIED errors, won't uninstall a program from the control panel, if I create a new word doc, I can't save the doc.
I have administrator access, most obvious goof is under THIS PC, LOCAL DISK (C:) properties shows 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free.
Please get back to me if you have any ideas.
Thank you in advance.
THIS PC, LOCAL DISK (C:) properties shows 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free.
Unless Windows is on a different drive letter, it is virtually impossible for C: to have 0 bytes. You can't boot into Window if there are no Windows files.
Go to Start/Search and type diskmgmt.msc, right click the diskmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Disk Management window, please take a screenshot of the lower pane of the Disk Management window and attach it in your next post.

I've been having problems with card reader on my Dell Inspiron 7537 following the Windows 10 upgrade - see Realtek Card Reader Keeps Disappearing
I tried the above utility but it didn't find a better driver than the one provided by Dell.

I am unable to install Win 10 Anniversary upgrade on my Asus T100HA Tablet as there is insufficient hard drive space (HD Totals 32GB) I have only got 10.5 GB's free after removing everything I can except Norton AV. Can I use a USB Stick and, if so, how?http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forum/helproom-1/short-hd-space-install-win10-ann-upgrade-4601279/
Hi all. MS apparently decided to upgrade my wife's comp from Win7 to 10 sometime in the early morning hours yesterday. Been on the black upgrading screen ever since - the upgrade is going along, but it's only at 25% (copying files is at 84%) and it's been about 24 hours now. Comp is about 4 years old, built with current parts for that time period, don't have it's details handy right now.
I've been dealing/building comps for over 30 years, and I've NEVER seen an install/upgrade take this long. Couple of questions:
What could be causing it to take so long?
Can I stop the upgrade without losing Win7 and her stuff, and how?
Thanks in advance!
