Quick File-Detection Test: Qihoo vs Avast vs Comodo

Q: Quick File-Detection Test: Qihoo vs Avast vs Comodo

Update: SecureAPlus test is below.

Since the "professional" (bought and certainly unbiased, nudge nudge, wink wink) AV testers don't test Comodo or Qihoo at present, I had to.

Link as to not cross-post: http://malwaretips.com/threads/is-it-safe-to-use-360-ts-or-or-other-360s-products.46792/#post-398096

TL;DR: Avast left 29 threats; Comodo, 32; Qihoo, 4

Question: is there a Win10 version of 360 Essentials?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all I've been testing AVAST fairly rigorously on 4.2 detection .VHD Error file Avast in - in both VISTA X- and W X- Straight from the MS site I downloaded the VHD Virtual disks XP compatability mode AVAST reports that the VHD file contains a quot COMPRESSION BOMB quot Now this doesn't actually tell me what this is -- but the fact that it reports something with the word BOMB in it means Avast 4.2 - Error in detection in .VHD file it can't be good Now as this VHD file was downloaded from the official Microsoft site I assume it HAS to be OK or does it - I would imagine MS regularly checks its own websites - there's plenty of people out there who'd jump at a chance of attacking a MS site if they Avast 4.2 - Error in detection in .VHD file could I'm going to download the XP compatability mode again and have another scan VISTA again reports the file as CLEAN so I think there still might be a couple of things AVAST need to fix in W when reading compressed or quot archive quot type files I can't post the screenshot -- once I see something with the word quot BOMB quot in it I immediately WIPE the entire machine Schnell Fast Pronto Cheers jimbo

A:Avast 4.2 - Error in detection in .VHD file

The Avast forum reports this: A decompression bomb is a file that unpacks to an enormous amount of data - thus "flooding" the unpacking engine. It's quite hard to detect such files reliably, so it's possible that it gives some false alarms ocassionally.

The entire forum is here,
Hope this helps..

One of my friends told me that Qihoo 360 IS is better than avast in terms of detection, and it has more features than avast free and it is also lightweight. Is it true?If Qihoo is better in terms of detection and protection,I will change it.So I decided to get sone expert's opinion about the Qihoo.Thank you.

A:Should I change from avast to Qihoo 360 IS?

As a personal preference, I use Avira AntiVirus Free.  Although I'm not familiar with Qihoo 360, it scored very well in the testing.

Hello, as old COMODO fan I wanna know how the online Cloud detection works. I notice in @cruelsister video that COMODO detected some files with the cloud engine and I wanna know if I use CIS in internet security mode, will I get the same result ? Do i need to check CAMAS ?

I am asking this because on my home PC COMODO never detects files using the Cloud. I am thinking to replace AVAST on my work PC and Tencent on my laptop.

A:Comodo Cloud detection

Comodo Cloud option is under File Rating option.
Its enabled by default.
Yes Comodo Internet Security mode will detect with Cloud too.

The reason you see cloud detection alert in cruelsister video is she uses Comodo Firewall only.
No AV is installed but as Cloud connection is there so malware are detected & Cloud detection alert is there.

With CIS, as AV is there too, mostly local AV will detect & you will get AV alert.
But if the new detection is added to the Cloud & local AV hasn't updated yet then you will get Cloud alert if the malware detection was found in the cloud.

I have a Comodo Firewall and AV Free Edition installed in my PC as well as installed Avira AV Free. Recently, Comodo has been detecting certain files from Avira (extension is av$) as suspected files and place it in Quarantine folder. I have submitted this to Comodo for them to look at.

Should I be worried about it or is it just something that is incompatoble between the two softwares.

A:Comodo Heuristic Detection

You should never have two anti-virus applications installed at the same time as they can fight against each other and actually leave you less protected.

Comodo Firewall Pro online test site has 2 "Leak Tests" and the zip files you download, 'CPILSuite.exe' and 'CLT.exe' contain malware. The A-Squared scanner detected the files as "Low Risk"and removed them. I now have second thoughts about using their free firewall. Has anyone else run across this situation?

A:Comodo Test Site

I don't think they were malware. Those leak tests are sometimes detected as malware by your antivirus because they will try to penetrate your defenses (firewall). That's the whole idea behind those tests. To see if your firewall is leaking. Nothing to worry about.

I am currently running the trial version of Avast Internet Security which includes a firewall. I found a tool called Comodo Leak Test which supposedly tests the effectiveness of your firewall. I got a score of 180/340. It gives you a descriptive glossary of information about the results. Have many people used this tool? What sort of scores should I expect? Is a score of 340 even possible for most PC's?

Thanks,

A:Comodo going Avast way?

as Avast employees said, they need money to maintain all these free softwares and services.
You are experineced user, uncheck the offers and get your free software.
Avast do not let you to close ad popups... They advertise you daily..hourly..
But Comodo does not do this, you can close the upgrade button in the UI too.
Comodo gives this flexibility to its users.

I've been hitting all kinds of firewalls (including the Win7 firewall) with Comodo LeakTest suite and the scores make for some interesting results. Here's the Win7 firewall in its default state on a "home" network.

In comparison, the paid version of Online Armor scored 320, Kerio 80 and Rising F/W 180. IIRC, the Windows XP firewall scored 50 which isn't bad for something that offers uni-directional monitoring, let alone advanced features like HIPS.

Is anyone using the latest firewalls (or ISSs) from Norton, Avira and the rest?

The test suite is available out here. Your A/V might give you a warning about a file named coat.dll but that file is necessary to test any leaks in your security setup and is rather harmless.

I have always had a Norton or AVG type INS but with my new Win 7 install I am going to try something new because those big suites really slowed my XP system down.

After reading many threads on the topic it seems most folks here like Avast and the Win 7 or Comodo FW. I currently have Avast and Win 7 running.

For someone that is a basic web surfer, Facebook, Hulu, JustinTV, ESPN, and an adult site or two... Do you think that the Avast and Win FW are sufficient, or should I use something more?

Before I start doing a lot of browsing I want to be sure I am protected.

Is the Comodo fw a better choice?

Thanks in advance
Don

The Windows firewall looks good, even in its default setup. I use it on one of my systems and Comodo on the others.

I prefer Comodo because I've been using it for a while and I am familiar with it, more so that Microsoft's offerings.

I would recommend that, in addition to whichever firewall you choose you also look into loading on Web of Trust (search for WoT) a program that will give you ratings for sites and warn you when you try to go to a site with a bad reputation.

Hello everyone

I've inherited my daughter's old laptop running Vista. After a factory reset I installed Avast 5 for AV and have run MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware with no reported problems. I then installed Comodo Firewall which installed successfully but caused Avast to stop working. I then uninstalled Comodo, now relying on the Vista firewall.

Do I need a third party firewall or is the Vista one sufficient?

If I do need a new one, please can someone recommend one that won't conflict with Avast or a way of getting Comodo to work with it.

Many thanks.

A:Problems with Comodo and Avast 5

Most concerns you may have heard or read about the Windows Firewall were in the XP operating system so many users were advised to use third-party alternatives. Microsoft significantly improved the firewall to address these concerns in Vista and then added more improvements in Windows 7.Windows Vista Firewall offers two-way filtering for better security than it did in XP but it is still limited. The firewall is combined with IPsec, turned on by default and set to a basic configuration that works in tandem with the Windows Service Hardening feature. If the firewall detects activity that it considers prohibited behavior according to the Service Hardenings preset rules, the firewall will block the suspicious activity. Another feature in the Vista firewall is that it can set rules based on three different types of networks using the Rules Wizard so creating firewall rules is much simpler.By default, most (not all) outbound filtering is turned off (outbound connections are allowed) and inbound filtering is turned on (inbound connections are blocked/not allowed). Why? This is what Microsoft has to say:Matt Parretta, a former spokesperson for Microsoft's PR agency, Waggener Edstrom, offered this defense: "If we turned on outbound filtering by default for consumers, it forces the user to make a trust decision for every application they run which touches the network. After they upgrade to Windows Vista or purchase a new PC with that OS, they will be prompted on the first launch of every application that touches the network: Instant Messaging, IE, e-mail, Windows Media, iTunes, every self-updating app such as Adobe, and so on. Unless they click 'allow', the app will be broken and won't function properly. The out of box experience would be poor, and they would soon be desensitized to the prompts."Although most outbound filtering is disabled, Vista’s firewall does provide limited outbound filtering which users may not be aware of as it is essentially invisible.Jason Leznek, Microsoft senior product manager, told Computerworld that outbound filtering rules "are enabled by default for core Windows services as part of Windows Service Hardening, which enables the firewall to understand specific behaviors Windows services should have, and block them if they are doing something unexpected (ie, via an exploited vulnerability). Windows Firewall also protects the computer by blocking certain outgoing messages to help prevent the computer against certain port scanning attacks."Outbound filtering can be configured to provide an additional layer of security and it does provide corporate and business administrators control over applications (i.e. peer-to-peer file sharing) they may want to restrict. Any such applications that require outbound access must be added to the rules list by using the firewall with the Advanced Security Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Configuration may be confusing for some and there is no practical way to to configure outbound filtering to stop all unwanted outbound connections. Inbound filtering can be turned on or off and through various tabs and configuration settings. Hi I'm a newbi on this board this is my first post. I just recently upgraded to a Windows Vista Home 64 bit. My old system was Windows xp. I found this board as I was trying to get the Norton security that came on my pc to uninstall. The info on this board is priceless. I was able to get rid of the Norton and have now installed AVAST. My question is should I also run COMODO firewall or just use the Vista firewall. And if I run the Comodo should I disarm the VF. Any input would be helpfull.
Again many thanks on the Norton issue, I was pleased to find out that I was not the only one who could not uninstall that pos.

Hello,

I've seen in Avast and in most guides that people change the heuristics sensitivity from Low to Normal or even High. My question is: did anyone see a heuristic detection ? I've tested Avast so many times but I never seen a "Heur" detection. Does changing the heuristics sensitivity improve detection ?

I did a test a few days ago (184 GB samples) and most files where detected by "EVO-Gen, DRep and Malware-Gen" and I've set heuristics sensitivity to High (even with Normal I didn't see any improvements) and I didn't see any "Heur" detection.

A:Avast detection of softonicdownloader44840.exe?

This is the Download Manager that bundles the original software from the Softonic.com web site along with additional offers, mostly ad-supported browser extensions and utilities. The bundled software (which is actually not included in this file but downloaded) is most likely clean, the downloader is ad-supported. The application softonicdownloader44840.exe by Softonic International has been detected as PUP.Softonic.Bundler. The program is a setup application that uses the Softonic Downloader installer.Analysis of softonicdownloader44840.exe

The detection is more accurately classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP)....which is defined somewhat differently by various security vendors and may or may not be detected/removed based on that definition[/b]. That fact adds to confusion and a lot of complaints from end users asking why a detection was not made on a particular file (program) they are having issues with.Malwarebytes: What are the 'PUP' detections, are they threats and should they be deleted?Sophos: Potentially unwanted applicationsBitdefender: What is a PUA/PUP software?Eset: What is a potentially unwanted application or potentially unwanted content? How Microsoft antimalware products identify potentially unwanted softwareLavasoft: What are Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPS)?McAfee White Paper: Potentially Unwanted ProgramsAVG FAQ 2340: Potentially Unwanted ProgramsSymantec: Potentially Unwanted ProgramsTo learn more about PUPs and how you get them, please read: About those Toolbars and Add-ons - Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs)

For the past few months I've noticed that my internet browsing is noticeable slower - sometimes in Firefox it takes 15 minutes to download a 10 MB file! - and at times my program-loading speed is much slower as well. This more or less correlates with when I accidentally allowed my free Comodo Firewall to update itself to a more robust version which contains antivirus scanning, sandbox, etc. as well as some PUP bundles. However, I already have Avast antivirus running with file system / web shields, "DeepScreen", "Home Network Security", etc., though the free version doesn't have sandbox capabilities.
Now that the newer Comodo is acting more antivirus-y, could it and Avast be clashing with each other and possibly be contributing to slower browsing? If so, do I have to uninstall one of them and switch to a different combination of firewall + AV, or is there something I can do with settings?

A:Does updated Comodo clash with Avast AV?

Hi shinra
It looks like you allowed COMODO Firewall to install COMODO Antivirus when it was updating itself. Having more than one Antivirus installed at the time on a system can cause system conflict and instability. You should only have one Antivirus product installed at all time on a system. You can supplement it with Antimalware since they are made to run alongside Antivirus, but not another Antivirus product. I suggest you to go in your list of installed programs, uninstall every COMODO programs and then re-download COMODO Firewall and reinstall it. If you think that COMODO Firewall is annoying or creates conflicts with avast!, you can always use the Windows Firewall, in-built, which is good enough to fit your network protection needs, assuming that you are running Windows 7 or more recent. Let me know how it goes

Currently have avast installed on my XP SP3

can i run it parallel with comodo,as i have read about comodo and feel it has a pretty good firewall, will it have any conflicts, as i am not comfortable with the windows defender I have.

Or should i just stick to the AVAST and Windows Defender. I just need to ensure that i can get the maximum possible FREE protection thats possibly out there

P.S. any idea about the microsoft security Essentials software, does it do a good job like avast.

Thanks alot in advance

I've had Comodo firewall and Avast AV for awhile now with no issues.  I just renewed my Avast AV Free and it upgraded/ updated the program.  Since then, I constantly have popups from Comodo Defense+ anytime I'm on the internet because Avast is running and its wanting me to "Allow this request".  I've googled how to make Avast a trusted program in Comodo, but all the instructions are very hard for me to understand.  Can someone explain how to get the Defense+ to recognize the new Avast program and not have the constant popups asking me to allow the program to do what its supposed to do automatically?

A:no network connections and no avast after virus detection

Update for 26/07/2009>Basically I believe what should be done is to let all necessary services -that no longer start up - start up at boot and repair missing dependencies which aren?t solved by the started services. <Actions performed the last 24 hours:The Avast and MBAM scans have scanned and cleaned my disks. In the Avast log I found ?win32:rootkit-gen found in svchost.exe?, thus it was deleted as I had confirmed the ?delete tread?? of the Avast pop up. After reboot this must have been causing several problems like services that no longer start up at boot and missing dependencies. Indeed there was no longer svchost.exe in \\ windows\system32 , so I copied it back. Unfortunately this sole action doesn?t make my pc work normally. So I think disabled services like the RPC must get working again. I tried c:\\windows\system32\svchost ?k rpcss, which started svchost and the process appeared in the task manager for 10 seconds, and then it disappeared. In order the try regain network functionality I registered some dll successfully. regsvr32 netcfgx.dll regsvr32 netshell.dllregsvr32 netman.dllBut network connections list is still empty.Hello b0gb0g,We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible.Thank you for understanding.Regards,The weatherman (Moderator)

I have yet another antivirus question as I still haven't decided what antivirus I'm going to install. I was pretty set on Avast until I saw on a few websites that Avira AntiVir has better virus detection than avast as well as less of an impact on system performance. Does anyone out there know if this is actually the case? I would like to go for the most secure option with the least impact on the system. Thank you for any help!

A:Avira AntiVir better virus detection than Avast?

Yes. The information is right. Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic has far higher detection rates than Avast. Also, it is very light on system resources. You can take this for sure. You will never regret your decision of installing Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Classic. Here are two links to support my statement.

Hope my answers satisfy your doubts. Good Luck.

Hey guys,

I updated avast and comodo firewall recently, and now whenever I got to yahoo's front page I cant see any thumbnails. It just appears as a blank.

When I go on yelp, I cant see the stars rating and people avatars. Same as above, it's just blank.

How do I fix this?

Thank you.

So hey My AVG renewal is up and I really want to try something new So my top choices are between AVAST ESET and COMODO I ll probably come to a conclusion myself I know no AV is perfect after all so allot of it is down to personal preference but I m a little torn so I d still like to hear a little input from someone else I mean I d choose ESET Choosing AVAST, suite, or COMODO? security ESET a in a heartbeat simply because I haven t tried them yet and I ve heard nothing but good things about them but they are also the most expensive option Avast is a program I m highly partial to due to their amazing community support but I feel as though Avast s latest version has gotten slower on the machines I Choosing a security suite, AVAST, ESET or COMODO? ve installed it on taking forever to scan and eating up more resources than before Comodo s Firewall is Choosing a security suite, AVAST, ESET or COMODO? just plain awesome difficult to handle and somewhat irritating but I like the fact that it s vigilant enough to block anything it does not recognize but beyond the firewall I have no experience with Comodo There s another thing I have several computers where I use two free programs together to get the full protection Comodo and Avast but I m feeling that using them as Choosing a security suite, AVAST, ESET or COMODO? a combo may actually be the reason Avast is so slow but even before that Avast s scans were kinda slow AVG and Webroot typically take half an hour to complete a routine scan whereas Avast always takes an hour or more and takes up half of the system resources in the process Anyway it s between those three or a combo of their free variations basically Any input on the matter would be great I m just looking for something better than flipping a coin

A:Choosing a security suite, AVAST, ESET or COMODO?

Choosing a security suite involves many of the same questions asked when Choosing an Anti-Virus Program or Choosing a Firewall. There is no universal "one size fits all solution that works for everyone. I'm not an advocate of suites. All-in-one tools and suites generally use more system resources than separate programs that do the same task. They tend to have varying degrees of strengths and weaknesses for each feature. In contrast, separate tools are designed, built and maintained with a greater focus in a specific area so they are generally of better quality and more effective at what they are designed to do. This means the program's performance for that particular feature is usually superior than their all-in-one counterpart. Further, all-in-one tools generally do not allow the user as much flexibility in tailoring default settings and usage. If you are adamant about using a suite, then I would recommend either avast! Internet Security or ESET Smart Security.

Is it safe to disable UAC in Vista Home if I'm using antivirus and a firewall?

It's such a pain, and it makes some programs that I use more difficult to use. They are safe, ie: I trust the source, but they sometimes have hiccups with UAC that would be easier if I could just disable it altogether.

A:Safe to disable UAC in Vista Home if using Avast and COMODO?

If you want my serious expert opinion, I would not disable the UAC, I use Windows 7 and as much as the UAC warning box pops up and can be an annoyance, I would rather it did and be safe than sorry.

The UAC warnings are a Windows security measure that prevents programs from making changes from your computer without your knowledge or consent.

It may be a pain, but consider the risks involved when you disable that feature, they certainly out-weigh the time it takes to click Okay.

That's just my opinion.

Bruce.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I need protection. It only has 1GB of RAM, so would I get Avast! free 5.1 or Comodo internet security 5.0? I was thinking of maybe MSE 2.0, but heard it is not RAM friendly.

A:Avast! Free 5.1 final vs Comodo Internet security 5.0

I wouldnt use Comodo AV since its hasnt been tested and it has an okay detection. The backbone of the whole suite of comodo is the D+ which is a HIPS.

Why not use Avast Free + Comodo FW w/ D+? You get a very good AV and an excellent firewall+hips program.

Does Comodo (I have Comodo Firewall with D+ without the AV) have something like that of Malwarebytes FileASSASSIN?

As of the moment I use FileASSASSIN http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php to remove files that Unlocker cannot remove. Is there anything out there like FileASSASSIN..?

I know of only two more namely:

LockHunter http://lockhunter.com/

Unlocker http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/

Thanks guys

A few months ago, my mother bought herself a new laptop and at first she used the free Norton trial for antivirus and firewall protection until it expired, then used the trial version of Kaspersky, which is about to expire. I was thinking about downloading Avast antivirus on to her laptop for her, but as far as I know, it doesn't have a firewall, so I was thinking of also downloading the Comodo firewall.

So my question is this: is Avast antivirus with Comodo firewall a good combination? are they compatible? And do they work well on a laptop? I have heard of some laptops having problems running Avast so I'm not 100% sure about using it, and I'm not sure if there are any compatibility issues between Avast antivirus and Commodo firewall, so that's why I am asking.

I appreciate any help or opinions on this.

Hi,

I want change my computer protection.

I want install Avast or Avira. But Avira doesn't have a firewall, so I want install avira + comodo firewall.

Which would be better for zero day malware protection and signatures: Avast Internet Security 2016 Or Avira+ Comodo firewall

A:Avast Internet Security 2016 VS Avira Free + Comodo Firewall

Avira + Comodo firewall is almost unbreakable. Best signatures and best proactive for zero day malwares.

Hi all, here is my question I'm recently building my first PC and and unfortunately I am only able to order part by part. Currently I have my processor, motherboard, power supply and will be ordering my memory next. my processor is a i5 3570k with the Integrated HD4000 Graphics and mobo is a MSI Z77A-GD65, so I planned on using the on-board graphics till I can afford an aftermarket one.

So basically my question is with the processor, mobo, power supply and memory in hand will I be able to run a test boot on the system so I can make sure I don't have any defected or broken parts. If not can you list any extra parts ill need before I can try a test boot. thank you very much.

A:Quick question on test boot

You'll need RAM to seal that deal. The bare components you'll need for a boot/POST are CPU, PSU, board and RAM...a monitor and keyboard wouldn't go amiss either.

So lets say you have a program open, and its not pinned to the taskbar, calculator for example. You close it, and the animation for the programs icon on the taskbar disappears smoothly. Now, if I pin the calculator onto the taskbar and open it (or any current taskbar pinned item) and close it, the icon disappears with a sort of a chunky, or "blocky" animation leaving just the normal taskbar icon.

My question is, should this happen or is my Windows install lagging somehow? Can anyone recreate this and see if you get a similiar result? Simply, non taskbar pinned apps icons seem to close smoother, while ones that are pinned dont really have an animation and just close with maybe 3 different frames.

A:Quick Question About Closing Apps/ Taskbar (Could someone test this? )

Hello Keyes,

This would be the Animations in the taskbar visual effects setting. It's normal for there to be a slight delay with the animation. If it's to long or jagged, then you may have something else running that's using a lot of resources causing a temporary longer delay for this.

If you like, you could turn off (uncheck) this setting to have them be instant instead.

For this I would suggest that you contact Testlink about the problem. They do have a forum for questions. This is most likely a problem with Testlink rather than XP or Firefox.

In AVAST! home edition, whats the difference is quick, normal and thorough scan?

A:Solved: AVAST Quick, Normal and Thorough scan difference

I copied this from the 'Avast! - simple user interface', which you should see on the left when you start Avast!. I usually use the normal mode (which found a software virus recently, and dealt with it).

"After selecting the area, you can specify how the testing should be performed. In particular, you can select the sensitivity of the scanner and whether or not the program will scan the contents of archives.

The sensitivity of the test governs the exhaustiveness, and thoroughness of the scanning avast! will use. Proper sensitivity can be selected by moving the slider. You can choose between three predefined levels.

First of all, there is the Quick Scan option. This scan, as its name suggests, usually runs very fast and is based on the fact that the files are searched according to their names; the actual scanning is performed only in those files that are potentially dangerous (such as the programs and documents). This type of testing can sometimes lead to misses (e.g. failures to detect viruses in some files), most of the time it is sufficient, though.

The second possibility is the Normal Scan option. In this scan, the files are analyzed based on their content (and not their names, as in the Quick Scan). However, only the "dangerous" parts of the files are tested, not the entire files. This method can potentially lead to a virus not being detected, yet is much more effective than the Quick Scan option above.

The last possibility is the Thorough Scan option, which can be characterized as testing all the files, in their entirety, against all infections in the database. This mode brings the highest reliability, but naturally can take much longer than the Quick or Normal scans.

Besides the sensitivity, you can also select whether to parse so called archives (also known as packed or compressed files). These files include ZIP, RAR, ACE, ARJ etc.

After selecting the scanning options, all you have to do is start the test. To do this, press the Play-style button (right-looking arrow)".

I noticed that my computer has been taking 15 mintues to fully boot up and ready to use. Suspecting some malware, I decided to run a Quick Scan with Avast Antivirus. However, after scanning only for 2 seconds and 10 files done, the computer immediately BSOD'd. I ran TDSSKIller and GMER to see if they find anything. TDSSKiller came up with nothing malicious, but GMER threw up 2 somewhat registry keys which cannot be opened in regedit.exe but contains gibberish names in them.

I have not attempted anything yet and would glady accept any help here. Thanks in advance.

Windows meets the requirements of C2-level security of the U.S. Department of Defense, it already has all the necessary mechanisms to provide access control. ReHIPS takes advantage of these built-in mechanisms and operates in a restrictive manner (if it is not explicitly allowed, block it). It executes every restricted application in the isolated environment (ReHIPS mode) with its own set of rights. Even if this application is compromised, your operating system stays protected and secure.

ReHIPS ensures system integrity and stability

Unlike some other sandboxes ReHIPS doesn't use kernel-mode hooks, splicing and other unsafe rootkit-techniques. It is based on documented Windows security mechanisms ensuring system stability.Click to expand...

Hi, there, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this:I recently changed my hard drive, as my old one was dying. Now, after I formatted, etc., & ran avast quick scan, the scans have been taking about 1 & 1/2 hrs, & scanning approx. 97 GBs. Previously on my old HD, it would take approx. 1 hr. to scan, & about 53 GBs of data would be tested.I have approx. the same amount of data stored as on my old HD(106GBs or so). My new HD is also the same size as my old one.Any thoughts on this? I had stopped using the full scan, as it was taking way long when avast came out with the 2014 version, but then, that's beside the point. It is driving me batty(the long scan times for the quick scan), and I am almost ready to change antivirus programs!!!I would appreciate some input, or any experience anyone is having with avast now? Thank you!!!

I have a program I run every day It tries to access the internet but does not need to do so With ZoneAlarm I could block internet Access for the app so it would load faster but I could still run the application With Comodo loading of the OS XP SP is VERY VERY slow loading that app was also very slow So I quot blocked quot internet access for the app in Comodo Firefox) an Comodo blocking .exe file (XP - I THOUGHT just from accessing the internet - Comodo is a firewall which I thought was just supposed to control a Comodo blocking an .exe file (XP Firefox) programs access to the internet like other firewalls not control MY access to my program - silly me So far as I know it is supposed to be JUST an internet firewall NOT an anti-virus to block and quarantine things for which any decent anti-virus has an quot undo quot I then selected the app and chose to put the it into the quot trusted quot list and it IS there but when I try to run it I m still told that Windows can t find access it that quot maybe it has been moved quot It won t let me move copy it either It has blocked ME from MY program instead of blocking the program from the internet I just need to UNBLOCK it - I guess with Comodo I have to give it internet access and waste the loading time if I want to run it at all ZoneAlarm had quot block quot quot allow quot and quot ASK quot for each program and even if it was blocked it would still run if it was capable of running without internet access I had to quit using Zone Alarm because they said they quot had not tested quot the new versions with XP SP but only with XP SP which I will not be putting on my machine when XP doesn t work for me any longer I will move to Linux I m not putting Microsoft spyware and controlware - disguised as an OS - on my system Does anyone know how to UNBLOCK an exe file in Comodo I have looked everywhere and can t find it Thank you for your help AnnaEdit Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum Animal

A:Comodo blocking an .exe file (XP Firefox)

Hi Anna
I unblock applications in Comodo using the option "firewall" tab
"network security policy"
pick your application from the list double click it and chose the allow option then apply

hope that helps ?

A:"Quick test on drive 1 did not complete" error on my WD Black Caviar

Hey there,

Status Code = 07 in WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic means the drive fails to read part of the drive and it is likely to soon fail or it already started failing. Once a bad sector appears on a drive, it is highly likely that more would appear (the head would bounce off the physically damaged part and land on a different spot on the platter further damaging it and creating more bad sectors). You could try running chkdsk /r to try locating and isolating any bad sectors it finds, but this would only give you some time for backing up your data. I would advise you to replace that drive. Since it is from the WD Black series, it is likely that it is still under warranty (they usually come with 5 year limited warranty). I would check that and go for RMA.

I wouldn't imagine the slow performance would be only because of the drive. I would do a run-in test to check the CPU, RAM and GPU to make sure they are all OK.

Hope this helps,

Captain_WD.

I have just gone through a cleaning that was initiated by finding PC-Antispyware had infected my computer. During the process I discovered I also had an infection of a Vundo Trojan variant.

Following the advice of this board I downloaded, amongst a few recommended programs, Comodo BOClean and installed it on my computer.

I now have received a warning from my Antivirus program, CA eTrust Antivirus that I have been infected with Win32/Matcash.db that came in on the infected CBO_SETUP_4.25.EXE file that is the installation file for Comodo BOClean.

After a couple of restarts I am finding all kinds of problems with my computer in Normal Startup so I have started in Safe Mode and am running MalWarebytes' Anti-Malware.

What do I do next to rid myself of the effects of this new infection?

A:Comodo Boclean Download File Infected!

I'm not sure where to look for the moved post.

I posted here as I discovered this new infection less than a half hour after RAWE had closed my open topic from the previous infection.

Additionally, since my Antivirus software informed that the infection came from a download, recommended by RAWE, I wanted him, and any others who might recommend that program be downloaded, to know of the infection.

I apologize in advance if this post is inappropriate but I'm not sure how else to make contact.

A:Comodo: Comodo Internet Security installs and starts a VNC server by default

LOL...

I knew there was a VNC associated with GeekBuddy, so I never installed it.

Even with the fix - don't install GeekBuddy - nor Chromodo, Dragon or Ice Dragon; a user doesn't need any of them.

A lot of the controversy associated with the above due to dodgy practices.

Other than that, COMODO Internet Security is decent security soft using Proactive Security at default settings.

I am a little confused about Panda, a lot of the time when running the malware packs here in this forum, Panda only detects around 50% of them, even when I'm SUD'ing them maybe (6) more a day get detected which is kinda confusing. I would say its because panda is just bad, but it gets high marks in a lot of the AV-Comparitive/AV-test tests. I have kind of come to a conclusion that pure cloud antivirus products just don't work as well as those products that have signatures on the computer for what ever reason, I know Webroot SecureAnywhere also is plagued with low scored in file detection. Is its just a cloud antivirus company being lazy thing? or is it something to do with how the cloud is run that gives them poor file detection. I am really curious.

Anyone have some insight?

A:Panda Internet Security 2014 (File Detection?)

The malware packs (mostly) contain zero-day malware, so a low detection rate in itself is not the mark of a bad product.

Keep on SUD'ing, this is what makes them better.

Is it possible to test whether an executable file is safe by opening/running the file under a virtual OS ?
Microsoft visualization technology seems to allow a virtual Windows OS to run under another Windows OS (I am currently running a Win7). I would like to open an .exe but have no idea how it may wrack my Win7 so am thinking of running it under a virtual OS to "test" the file.
Is it feasible? Any risk ???? any sharing will be greatly appreciated.

A:Can't remove Eicar test file

Hi dcuyx

Did you download this utility to test your antivirus program? Do you have the option to delete quarantined items.?

This is a free utility you can try: http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/

Click on 'delete' for whatever finds.

Alternatively, you may have to go to the vendor site for support.

When I open the eicar.com.txt file in IE, Avira immediately alerts that it detected the file. But when I open the same file in Firefox, the page just shows but Avira doesn't do anything. How come?

A:EICAR Test File Question?

Anyone? If I'm in the wrong forum please move me to the appropriate one.

I would like to email many jpeg photos so I used WinRar to compress the images. The memory size before compression was 26,781,580 bytes. After compression the size became 26,780,620 bytes. It was only 1kb smaller.

I think I didn't compress it properly. Is comparing the size the right way to test if compression has been done properly?

Im just wondering if an antivirus is actually needed with comodo firewall.
As i understand it comodo firewall checks files as they are downloaded etc and im assuming it would pick up malware on its own therefore maybe i would not need to run the comodo av or any other av at all.

Any thoughts on this please.?

Thanks.

I get this annoying pop-up every 2 minutes when browsing the internet:

The file is here. Notice its description:

When I try to delete the file, the following happens:

My questions is - what do I do? Is the file infected or is avast simply going nuts? I have the free version of avast and I am using win7.

Hi, I scanned a folder (with HP Games backed up) on my external hard drive with Avast, and it said "Error: The system cannot find the path specified (3)" about some files, see attachment. What does that mean and why does it happen?

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!

I have tried multiple times to run a boot scan and a system scan on Avast. It keps locking up on some files. The most recent file was:

C:\windows\System32\SMI\...\SCHEMA.DAT(61bafa5d-7bcb-11e0-bf9f-001fe1dfc234).TM.blf

I suspect there is avirus that Avast can't deal with. Any help would be appreciated!

Todd

Hi all I'm trying to make a batch file to test whether or not computers on our network are turned on I've planned to do this by pinging each computer and for each computer that cannot be pinged its name will be added to a text file I have managed to do this when the response from the ping is 'Request timed out' However when the response is 'Destination host unreachable' It does not work This is because the reply given from the ping has a reply from an ip address first 'Reply from Destination host unreachable' When checking the reply from the ping the batch file is only reading 'Reply from ' It doesn't read past the first ' ' Is there a way to get it to read 's My code for Request timed out Code echo off for f quot Batch file are on. networked if to test computers delims quot I in 'ping -n ' do if quot I quot quot Request timed out quot echo I gt gt test txt Code for host unreachable Code echo off for f quot delims quot I in 'ping -n ' do if quot I quot quot Reply Batch file to test if networked computers are on. from Destination host unreachable quot Batch file to test if networked computers are on. echo I gt gt test txt Thankyou for any help solving this or if anyone knows of another method mfoley

A:Batch file to test if networked computers are on.

Hi,

I havn't really worked with batchfiles, but are wildcards allowed?

for /f "delims=." %%I in ('ping -n 1 192.168.0.3') do if "%%I"=="*unreachable" (echo %%I >> test6.txt)

Or maybe try with variables?

set unreachable="Reply from 192.0.0.1: Destination host unreachable"

for /f "delims=." %%I in ('ping -n 1 192.168.0.3') do if "%%I"=="%unreachable%" (echo %%I >> test6.txt)

A:Solved: Could not load test file language.xml

Search your registry (all of it) for a reference to that file, and also look in the Event Viewer Logs (probably Applications) for any errors related to that message

What is the File System Sheild in avast?...................,there is a problem called system shield is missing when i tried run my avast anti virus?

A:What is the File System Sheild in avast?

It monitors all files and programs running on your system and is the main componant of the avast real time scanner. If this is missing you are unprotected. Recommend a complete re-install and then a complete scan including all locations.
