Outlook 16 Will Not Setup a Pop Account

Q: Outlook 16 Will Not Setup a Pop Account

I have Outlook 15 set up on two machines -- one is under window 7 and the other under Windows 10. Both will allow me to setup email POP accounts.

However, on my new Windows 10 HP Laptop, Outlook 16 will not allow me to setup a POP account. I fill out the form for manually setting up a POP account but when I test the settings in the last step I get a message saying it failed loggin onto incoming mail server and so forth.

I am quite sure I set the Outlook 16 account exactly as I set up the Outlook 15 accounts.

Can someone help me set up a POP account under 16?

BTW, I can let 16 automatically set up an IMAP account.

Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When manually setting up a POP account, not only do you have to make sure that the pop/smtp server info is correct for your ISP but also make sure you have the incoming/outgoing ports and security options set up.

I've had Outlook 2010 installed for over two years on my laptop and everything has worked great.

The other day, I tried to set up a new email account and when the wizard appeared, it didn't give me the choice for MANUAL setup. I then realized that the window for the wizard was not showing all the words... the sentences ran past the viewing window and outside where I could not see, which is where the manual set up button was "below". There are no scroll bars or a way to adjust the wizard and I even tried playing with my display settings which did not work either.

I did find a work around that got my email set up but I couldn't go into advanced settings to adjust ports because of the same issue. I've looked everywhere for a fix and haven't been able to find anything... please help!

I have Outlook 2002. I want to oversee two email accounts.
However, I want the Inboxes (emails) of these accounts separated.
Each time and every way I try to setup these two accounts, the associated
emails get placed interleaved in the same Inbox.
Some other email softwares allow the separation of the multiple accounts in the left-hand column, each with its own Inbox, Sent, Folders, etc.
Is this too much to ask of Outlook 2002, or am I doing something wrong - or failing to do
something else in the account setup?
Anyone else experience this problem?

Hello Everyone,

I am setting up my email accounts in Outlook 2016. I always do a manual setup and on my email accounts, I use Exchange ActiveSync.

My questions are this.

What is this new option of selecting Office 365 and when would I use this option? When I did select the Office 365 option and pressed next my outlook would crash, any fix? What is the best selection to choose from when setting up my account that would be great for automatically syncing with my calendar etc. on or apple etc.?

Thank you very much for any help and assistance.

A:Outlook 2016 Manual Email Account Setup, Office 365 option? & Crashes

Manual setup for accounts is absolutely unnecessary, Outlook 2016 does that automatically in a few seconds.

That being said, if you insist in doing it manually the correct option is Exchange ActiveSync. Office 365 option is for so called workplace email accounts, Azure AD / Office 365 for Business or Enterprise users. You select that option only if your organisation uses Office 365 and you want to set up your workplace email in Outlook 2016.

Hi everyone. Fine?

So, I have just added my second email account to Windows one (I have one only for Xbox LIVE), as I can't use my other email with the Smart Glass app with this account. Anyway.

I add the account on W8 settings, and it says the user must be connected to internet for the first time setup. I have a desktop, so I'm basically all the time on internet. Anyway, I switch users, try to login unto my new account but, for some reason, it says I need to be connected for the first time.

I'm not sure why that is happening, as when I switch back quickly to my normal account, internet is working perfectly...

There is almos more two accounts on the system, my brother's and mom's (making that 4 including the Xbox Live one)

Anyone had this problem? If yes, how did you fixed it?

I am trying to setup a new Windows 8 computer that is going to be a gift. I need to go through the setup procedure so I can install some software which is also part of the gift. How can I do this without having to use a Microsoft account, or at least with leaving the least amount of account remnants for the new user?

A:Setup without Microsoft Account

unless you do an upgrade and not a clean install, i dont think there'll be a problem with remnants , and you dont really need a microsoft account to install windows, its sth you set up later , just do a clean install and format any other partitions of the disk and ur gift is finishd .

What is the proceedure to setup new user accounts in XP? Thanks

A:Setup new User account on XP

From Windows Help:

To add a new user to the computer
When you add a user to your computer, you are allowing that individual to have access to files and programs on your computer.

The steps to perform this task differ depending on whether your computer is a member of a network domain or is part of a workgroup (or is a stand-alone computer).

My computer is on a domain

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
On the Users tab, click Add.
Follow the instructions on the screen to add a new user.

Add New User gives an existing domain user permission to use the computer.
You can only add existing domain users by using User Accounts. To add a new local user, on the Advanced tab, click the Advanced button. In Local Users and Groups, click Users, and then on the Action menu, click New User.
You should not add a new user to the Administrators group unless the user will perform only administrative tasks. For more information, click Related Topics.
My computer is not on a domain

You must have a computer administrator account on the computer to add a new user to the computer.

Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
Click Create a new account.
Type a name for the new user account, and then click Next.
Click Computer administrator or Limited, depending on the type of account you want to assign to the new user, and then click Create Account.

The name you assign to the account is the name that will appear on the Welcome screen and the Start menu.
The first user you add to the computer must be assigned a computer administrator account.

To open User Accounts, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.

Yesterday, I got a start down this road, but when I went to what I called a 'public' limited account, all the programs were still showing, but when I tried to start them, windows gave an error.

Maybe I didnt give Windows Vista time to do its thing..what do you think..any advice appreciated!

A:Limited user account setup

I am thinking that you want to do this on your home computer? I work for a library system and a big part of my job is locking up computers. A good tool to start out with would be TweakUI front at Here you can get rid of some of the things you want to remove (like the desktop. Not knowing your skill level, but if you are comfortable changing the registry a good website would be . I use a number of tools that I use when I set up a public computer. I start with the PAC security tool designed by Bill Gates Foundation which is 100% free. Info can be found at : and here: . It is the best tool ever you can limit accounts to have nothing if you wanted too. The only problem for you is you need XP Pro to use it. When I get that all set up I use a lock and key program that you add to you computer. With these two on a computer no one can ever bring a computer down. Found here: they also make a software version for home users. Let me know if you have any questions.

Try this mate: Sign in - Show All Users or Last User in Windows 8
Show all users is the one you'd want. Also, passwords often help solve the issue as well, and are recommended, especially for people with admin rights, because malware may be able to install without your consent, and passwords put a wall up against this.

A:Outlook 2010 e-mail account won't sync to Outlook.pst file

I figured this out.  When I reconfigured my e-mail account in Outlook, I used IMAP settings instead of POP3.  This was not how I did it before.  IMAP works great if one wants to keep all e-mail out on the server and access it from various devices.  That isn't what I do.  I changed the profile to POP3 and the poblem was solved.  Still don't know why it initially failed two nights ago, though.

Exactly what is the benefit to use your account as an account when you first boot your fresh win 8 laptop?

I helped my bro in law along the way with his new laptop and he proceeded to use his account details as the login.

Call me old school but I've always had separate local accounts on a home machine! What's the benefit now then?

When you change your password I guess you need to remember it to log in!? Also are you required to have an internet connection at all tines? Or does it cache the last credentials!?

Ok folks,
I setup (2) computers (laptops) to be used in two different locations.  I used the same email account hoping this would allow th comuters to network.  This has only created major problems.
* one computer has to shut down so the other computer can log on.
* files can't be shared, but if you change the desktop on one you can see the change on the other.   Still no files can be exchanged.
* once in awhile the "Group Policy Client Service" will pop up.
The computers are linked, but not in a way the clients like it.
Do you have any thoughts?

A:Two Computers Setup w/ Same Account Creating Problems

You could create a local account on one or both PCs - then instead of shutting down, you could just switch to local account on one of them.
For sharing files, both PC's should share OneDrive storage. Just copy files to OneDrive from one PC, and then copy them from OneDrive to the other PC. If it is text or pictures, you can also use OneNote

EDIT: I will be using Windows 8, Home edition

A:Setup-single user account with no password?

Hello JoGirl, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes. You would just need to set it up using a "Local" account instead of a "Microsoft" account. Only with a local account can you leave the password fields blank to not have one.

The only issue with it being an administrator account without a password protection would be a security issue of everyone being able to use the account since there is no password they must type before being allowed to.

Hopefully a straight forward question for you...

We have a company laptop that is normally used on our domain and the user wants to setup a local user account on it for home use. We have tried adding a new user but it keeps asking for the domain. I am presuming we have to leave the domain and setup a workgroup for example and do it that way?!? But this causes an issue when the user wants to go back on the domain at work.

Appreciate any advice/help.

The first account, should be a Windows Live or Local Account. If you are going to resale the machine, or give it to someone else. It is suggested to wipe the machine, then reinstall the OEM image. As for removing it. Only if you are having issues with that account, then yes you could make a new account. But that will not fix why there is a problem with the OS.

I believe the title provides enough info, but I am wondering as an example in Windows 8.1 if you can create a stand user account called "user1" that can access only MS Office Word, and "user2" that can only access MS Office Excel. Is this type of control possible ?

If you like, you could use Assigned Access for this for the modern app versions of those programs from the Store.

I have 2 computers both running Windows 10, one of which is brand new.
When I setup the new computer, I signed in using Microsoft account, expecting the new computer to sync the settings from the old one. But instead, the new computer's default settings overwrote existing settings on the old computer, which is just dumb.
Because of some hardware issues, I've had to replace the new computer and setup a new one again. Now I really don't want the same thing happening again. So is there a way to make sure my new Windows 10 only receive settings from the old one?

Hi I'm having two irritating problems with Outlook Express and was hoping someone had some suggestions When I reply to a message that has an attachment the attachment is not included in the reply I realise that including it may mean that multiple copies of the attachment are floating around but the current setup means that I can't keep the final e-mail with the all the replies that also has the attachments I might need copies of the e-mail chain at different points in order to have all of the attachments Entirely separate problem When I double click on pdf attachments to open them Adobe Photoshop launches instead of Abobe Acrobat The quot file types quot set up is proper and if I save the file to my hard drive and double click Outlook Express Setup on it from Windows Explorer the proper software Outlook Express Setup opens It's just incide Outlook Express that I have a problem and I can't see how to re-set the defaults Thank you

A:Outlook Express Setup

I can try to help with point number 1. Instead of clicking "reply", try clicking "forward" as it should retain the attachment. The only problem is that you will need to enter in the email address that you are trying to reply to.

Just as a note on that, do not forget that the person you are replying to may not want to be receiving copies of their attachment back as it will be filling up their mailbox.

ok, i installed office2000 and it came with outlook 2000 ...

well, during the first startup, it brought up the wizard to configure outlook to be:

1. email client
2. workgroup or internet email client?
3. not as an email client due to the fact i use another email client.

well, i accidentally selected option 2, and outlook configured it to be like that, when i should have chosen option 1 ....

how do i get it to do the wizard again?

i reinstalled outlook, to no avail. i uninstalled outlook, and then reinstalled it, and it still didnt do anything.

how do i fix it and get it to bring the wizard back up so i can select option 1?

the first thing you should do is backup the current outlook pst.

file -> export -> to a file.

from there i would try a new pst file you can create it in the account settings spot.

With the sad demise of WLM and messanger I now need to setup my Outlook '03 to get my Hotmail email.

I go add a new account, select Hotmail, and try me email... Outlook can't find the server.

Looking around, MS has made a dandy helper program fo0r the switch over, so i d/l it and install..., It doesn't do what their site says it should so I'm, now stuck.

I'm a hotmail address but need the new server info.

Please help me...

A:Setup Hotmail in Outlook

Try this:
Make sure POP3 is selected under Incoming e-mail server type:.
Type "" under Incoming mail server:.
Enter "" under Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name:.
Make sure Outgoing server requires authentication is checked.
Click Next.
Type your full Windows Live Hotmail email address under E-mail username:.
Enter your emails password under Password:.
Click Next.
Make sure “Do not download my e-mail at this time” is checked.
Click Finish.
Highlight the new account in the list.
Click Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab.
Make sure “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” is checked under both Outgoing mail (SMTP): and Incoming mail (POP3):.
Type "587" under Outgoing server (SMTP):.
If the number under Incoming server (POP3): is not "995", enter "995" there.
Click OK.
Click Close.

This works for configuring to Windows Mail so the settings should work for Outlook. No guarantee as i haven't tried it but worth a try!
Let me know how it goes!

newcomer just looking for an answer to: how one forwards their outlook mail account to an mail account?

A:How does one forward their outlook mail account to an mail account?

There are no such things as Outlook mail accounts (in the context of your question anyway). Your mail account is on a server where Outlook fetches mail from.

The better way to set up mail forwarding is on the server. If you have some sort of a web interface or a shell account, then you may be able to set the forward address yourself. Otherwise, talk to the mail server administrator.

You can set up mail filtering rules in Outlook too, which say that whenever Outlook receives a new message, it will send it so somewhere else. This approach is very bad though, since you would have to have your Outlook running 24/7 to keep the forwarding ability.

I have started this new job here and I am going to be upgrading our server to win2k. I am looking at using outlook and exchange to bring a lot more collaboration abilities to our group. I want to have the scheduling power of an all outlook environment as well as contact lists sharing. We currently have 3 separate e-mail clients in use. Really sucks to be honest.

question #1 how do you handle containing the latest e-mail virus that affects outlook and outlook express clients. Merely a good antivirus software to scan attachments or what?

question #2 anyone have any experience using outlook and exchange in a terminal server environment.

question #3 any tips on lessons learned from your own trials and such.

Thanks a lot. As a student trying to get this real world experience your help here is great.

A:Need To Setup Outlook Express Using Aol Mail

I've done this so many times I can do it in my sleep.
1)Open Outlook,go to Tools/Accounts/Mail tab,
2)Now click the Add button and select Mail.
3)The Internet Wizard pops up and asks what name you want to appear in the From field of emails that you send-type your name.Click Next
4)Now you are asked to type in your email address-type it in.Click next
5)Now here's where it can get tricky, call your ISP and ask them what to put in the incoming and outgoing server use Shaw cable, and my incoming server is a POP3 so thats what I select from the drop box at the top.In both incoming and outgoing server boxes I type in "shawmail" and click Next
Your ISP will tell you what to type into those two boxes.
6)Now,in the Account Name box, type in just the part of your email address before the @ symbol. In the Password box type your password and make sure the Remember Password box has a check in it.Click next.Click Finished and you're done.
7)Do the above for any other accounts you want to set up.

I know the server settings are correct because they work on my phone and at my office. This is an Exchange 2010 account. It makes it through the auto discovery, then says that I have to restart outlook. When I restart outlook it pop-up with windows security window, so I input username and password.
This pops up.

Then this.

Then this.

The exchange server name shows up as a .local which would work if I was on the network at the office.

A:Outlook 2013 Cannot add a new account

For starters, there is a certificate error. Is your company using a self-signed certificate? If so, you'll need to import the root certificate from your company's certificate store into the computer you are trying to connect with.
You said you know the server settings are correct, and that the exchange server name ends in .local. That server can only be accessed from computers connected to your company's network. If you are trying to connect from home, you will need to contact your IT department to ensure the Outlook Anywhere service is enabled on the Exchange server. Your phone can connect because it is using a different protocol than what Outlook uses.

I have just installed OL 2010 for the first time and created 3 different accounts (or identities), and now I see that there are a number of mail maps for each of these accounts.
How can I change it, so that mail to/from all accounts are placed in the same maps?

A:Outlook: I don't want a mail map for every account

You can consolidate them by moving the .pst files into the same folder:

I have setup a New User Account on an XP Pro SP machine I want to enable the New User to use MS Account and MS User Outlook New Outlook which is already installed and is currently being used without any problems by another user account When I click on the MS Outlook application a MS Outlook and New User Account message box appears with the message - Windows Installer Preparing to install After about seconds an error message appears as follows - Error Error reading from file U SKU CAB On clicking OK the installation fails and then aborts I assume that the installer is looking for a file on the original CD If this is correct why is the message not something like quot Insert the CD in etc quot The problem is that this machine does not have a quot U quot drive Surely the installer would check that this is a valid installation and simply setup the New User to use Outlook The other OFFICE programs all work with the New User without any issues If you check the MS Office website for Error the quot answer quot is that the files were removed during Cleanup But that is nonsense because the files have not been removed and MS Outlook has always been installed on C This is a bog-standard XP PC Windows and all Programs are on C in their default folders Why does Microsoft always have to go out of their way to annoy us T nbsp

A:Outlook PST with IMAP Account

Im not sure about the not receiving IMAP emails in the inbox, there might be some mailbox size limit setup in exchange, and they are over it.

But for the moving emails from inbox to the personal folders:

You can have as many personal folders as you want, but has to be way below the 2gb mark. Honestly I would make sure the personal folders are less than 500mb.

Here is a link to create .pst folders:

We have just set up our e-mail account with Outlook XP. When we try to get mail it pops up a message that says A dial up session is currently in progress and Outlook would like to use a different connection for send/receive. Use existing or hang up?

Where do we assign which dial up account Outlook uses?

A:Outlook Dial-up Account?

Open Outlook, go to Tools, Email Accounts, make sure that View or change existing e-mail accounts is selected and then click Next, double-click the account you want to change. Click on More Settings at the bottom right. Click on Connection tab and select connect using Internet Explorer or a 3rd party dialer. Click OK to exist. Do the same operation for other accounts that may exist.
This will allow you to connect using your current connection. I will make a note that some ISPs insist you connect with their number befoire you can access support pages, or even emails sometimes. I have 2-3 different connection numbers, but I know if I use the other 2, I will not be able to download my emails or access my ISPs supoort pages.

I set up a secondary E-mail account in Outlook but cannot figure out how to access it. Someone sent a test message to that account and it showed up in my primary account window, apparently as a copy, but I cannot see the name of the sender. I can go to the web to see messages for my secondary account but that doesn't fit my needs. I am using Outlook 2003.

A:Secondary account in MS Outlook

You need to go to Control Panel and find Mail. Go in there and you will have an option to create a second profile. Do that and name it after your second mail provider. After you set that up you will have the option which profile to choose when outlook loads.

HI guys I need some help Our company uses pop for email Sending Account. Outlook We do not have an exchange server Locally I have installed Office on all machines Most employees have multiple email accounts Outlook Sending Account. in Outlook From what I understand when they begin a new message Outlook should send it Outlook Sending Account. from whichever account I have set as the default When they reply to or forward a Outlook Sending Account. message it should be sent from whichever account the message was originally sent to It does seem to be working this way for all but one user It worked correctly for her in the past but suddenly with no apparent changes it is not She has accounts both using the same incoming and outgoing servers but with different user names and passwords When she chooses to create a new email it defaults to sending with her default account Ibelieve this is correct and is not a problem But when she replies to or forwards any message no matter which account it was sent to it defualts to using her secondary account to send I have showed her how to select the correct account form the drop down before clicking on quot Send quot but I would like to understand why this is happening and how I can get her Outlook to behave the same as everyone elses So far I have rebooted changed which account is defualt and changed it back updated Office scanned for virus and poked around every Outlook setting i can find I haven t been able to find the problem Could the user s Outlook profile be corrupt I know this happens with Wondows profiles can it happen to an Outlook profile Are there settings i did not find that could correct this Everything I read after googling tells me to set the account as default but it already is Any information is greatly appreciated thanks nbsp

Outlook 2003 keeps popping up a message to enter my password when I have already entered my password. I can't clear this even when I uninstall Office and re-install it.

so it keeps asking you for your password? check your user name and make sure its correct. I had this happen and it only put my user name, not my email address. so maybe you need to enter your email addy, and the password to that email addy, then click "save this password" check box.

I have a problem inserting my Outlook account in my computer, which has the 2007 version. Whenever I type my email address and password, it says that one of those is incorrect while they are not,it keeps trying and nothing. Then it tells me that it will do it through an unencrypted connection. Still fails. However, the mobile Outlook app doesn't have any problems and it works well. What shall I do? I should also mention that I installed Office 2007 on top of 2010 (Office 2010 is 64 bit, Office 2007 is not and will never be, so I installed 2010 first and then 2007 without Groove 2007). I just did it for compatibility (I present some documents with PowerPoint and Word mostly, but if there is compatibility mode in 2010, I would really like to know, because I want my PowerPoint and Word 2010 to be fully compatible with 2007, not 97-2003, so I can free up space that Office 2007 consumes).
