Windows Update error code 8024A000; unable to install any update.

Q: Windows Update error code 8024A000; unable to install any update.

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,
Nommy

Preferred Solution: Windows Update error code 8024A000; unable to install any update.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

Hi everyone I don't post here often but I hope you can give me some advice I don't know when this Update 8024a000 Error and Windows 0x800704 problem occurred but it seems that my Surface was recently unable to receive updates both manually and automatic If I went to Windows Update in Windows Update Error 0x800704 and 8024a000 the desktop environment it said Latest search for updates Never Updates installed Never If I tried to search manually it would try to search for a while and then tell me that there were no available updates and that the system is configured to install updates automatically If I went to Windows Troubleshooting through the Control Panel I did find a button which said quot Solve problems with Windows Update quot I ran it it asked me to run as administrator I did that and I got this notification which said quot We have found a potential error in the Windows Update database x quot It shows me it's solved quot Windows Update components need repair quot That's solved as well However it changed nothing I also got the following error code on one occasion a I think this problem might have been resolved by some cmd code very informative I know that I copied from Microsoft Support At least it doesn't give me error codes any more and it found a update for Windows Defender I experience a side-effect from this mess though The list of installed updates only show the single update that I managed to install a couple of minutes ago If I navigate to the menu which allows me to remove updates they are all there though I have had other errors that I believe are a result of missing updates My wifi connection is sometimes unstable and needs to re-connect and the Surface sometimes reboots when it wakes up from sleep I don't know if these problems are still pressing and whether Windows Update was broken for a while or just a couple of hours I'm actually not quite sure what I'm asking here I don't know what happened and I don't really know how I solved it or if it's even solved I guess I hope to see a comment on what happened and what I should look out for as I'm worried Windows Update is not all right yet Thank you

A:Windows Update Error 0x800704 and 8024a000

Hi,

After reading the description you've provided it sounds like you have already solved the problem.

Below is the exact description provided by Microsoft about error 0x8024a000.

"0x8024A000 WU_E_AU_NOSERVICE Automatic Updates was unable to service incoming requests."

What this means is an update was downloaded but was corrupted. By renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder it should have cleared the offending update.

A:Vista Update Error 8024A000

Here's the solution. I had to replace a failed hard drive in a Vista laptop. The original drive was a 200GB and I replaced it with a 500GB. I used my original Toshiba restoration CDs. I've spent HOURS troubleshooting this problem and I never would have guessed
the solution -- it's the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. It has to be updated because of the larger drive.
Here's a link to an HP support site for the updated driver. You can also find the update on Intel's site.

When I try to run Windows Update for important updates the system downloads and installs the updates.
I am then required to restart the PC.
When I do so I get the following:
"Failure Configuring Windows Updates"
"Reverting Changes"
The pc then re-starts and tells me I need to install the same important updates.
The updates causing particular problems are:
KB2922229
KB2843630
KB2928562
In addition I am unable to install the Internet Explorer updates issued last week.

I have been able to install optional updates but no important updates since 10th April 2014.

I have tried:
Standard Windows Update from Control Panel
Manual installation of the updates
Also tried in Clean Boot
Manually re-set Update Components
All with Anti-Virus and Firewall turned off.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

shayneacids,

Welcome to SevenForums.

Please follow this procedure.

Be sure to delete the existing logs first as explained in the procedure.

Upload ( do not post inline) the resulting SFCDETAILS.TXT file.

System File Checker – SFC

System File Checker checks system files and restores them if possible.

System File Checker places results in:
%windir%\logs\cbs

My preference is to empty the abovementioned folder BEFORE I run SFC.

How to empty the “results” folder
? Run CMD.EXE as administrator
o WIN | type CMD.EXE | do NOT hit ENTER |
o CTRL + Shift + ENTER key combo | YES button
? Type following commands, each followed with ENTER key
o CD %windir%\logs\CBS
o DEL *.*
o EXIT

To run System File Checker:
WIN | type CMD.EXE | do NOT hit Enter| CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER key combo | YES button
WIN is the key with the Microsoft flag on top.

Enter SFC /SCANNOW
When System File Checker finishes---

If you do not see:
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Then:
? Type EXIT to return
? RESTART your computer
? Run sfc /scannow again

If you do not see:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Then:
? Type EXIT to return
? RESTART your computer
? Run sfc /scannow again

If you do not see:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Then:
? Type EXIT to return
? RESTART your computer
? Run sfc /scannow again
Notice that you have run sfc and restarted your computer up to three times.

? If all did not go well, you can use
the findstr command to view the results.

Dear Sevenforums,

I just installed a new HDD by WD into a HP DV7T (2008), everything has been going well up until I tried to Update Windows. I did not retain anything from the previous installation as the previous hard drive up and quit on me!

I activated windows and had it confirmed as genuine.

I followed the instructions posted on another page and tried to install SURT and got an error: 0xc8000247.

I was hoping for some suggestions, Direct X , Java, MSE and Mechwarrior Online wouldn't install.

Perhaps a driver issue?

Have a great day all!

Sincerely,
Noodle123

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi all,

I am having a problem installing the above update. It will download to 11% and then instantly fails, never getting to the Installation phase. I have no problems downloading or installing any other updates.

I have run the System Readiness Tool

sfc/scannow reports some corrupted system files that it cannot fix

I've restarted several times with no change

I have not been able to attach the CBS log as when I try to upload it I get an error.

Hi Michael:

Did you try to install the update again manually?
There are some errors that are simply a matter of bad timing, and they can be caused by busy websites and slow Internet connections, or a number of other factors. Sometimes you can fix these problems by trying to install the updates again.
1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, and then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.
2. Tap or click Check now, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your PC.
3. If updates are found, tap or click Install updates.

Hi there,

I'm having an issue with a laptop running Windows 7 Home x64 SP1. It has failed to install Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 and keeps trying every time I try to run updates.

I've downloaded the installer and tried to run it manually, but that gives me the error 0x80070002

I've attached my CBS log from the last time I attempted the install. Any help will be much appreciated!

I assume that your installation of Windows isn't Portuguese or Chinese??

Unfortunately, the only cure I know of at the moment is a repair install.

If you can wait a while, I may be able to help find a better answer - but it's going to be at least the weekend before I have enough free time.

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hello,
First, excuse my english, I'm trying my best.

I get error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run.

I did the Windows Update Posting instructions. When I did the SURT installation, it didn't finish and I had to reboot the PC. Then it work.

I've tried sfc /scannow several times before with different results: sometimes finished with no errors, sometimes finish with unfixable errors and sometimes didn't finish at all.

I uploaded the CBS.zip

Hope you can help me, thanks.

When I try to install KB3182373, a "Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight", Windows Update reports failure with the message "Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error".
I ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab. It reported that "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem".
What can I do to fix this? I'm running Windows 7 Professional.

I found some questionable files this week that had been downloaded by my son. I have since spent a great deal of time trying to scan and clean the computer. Each malware/spyware/anti-virus scanner has had varying levels of success.

It seems that the bulk of my issues have been resolved but I am still unable to install the following update from Microsoft: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2719177)

Each time I try to update it, it aborts and gives me an error code (80073712), that is not showing up in any google searches or searches of microsoft's site.

Additionally, every time I shutdown or restart the computer it shows that new updates are being installed.

I am using Windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I didn't see any posts about this, so I hope I am not double posting.

After removing a drive load of viruses, I am still not able to update Windows Vista to Service Pack 1. I have even tried to create a new admin user account in hopes that this would work, but no go. I tried running sfc.exe / scannow from the CMD and it did report that it was unable to repair wextract.exe. Also, the file reportingevents.txt located in %system root%\windows\softwaredistribution\reportingevents.txt lists "Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80070490".
Although, I think Windows Defender can update. I need to take a break.

Hi, I'm having a major virus/malware issue as my McAfee firewall protection stopped working suddenly. Called McAfee to reinstall the virus software and they were unable to install it. They said that since my Windows Update feature is not working (there is a big red X and updates are not downloading and installing) the McAfee installation is failing. Asked me to fix this issue first and then try McAfee installation.

Not sure what to do, any adivse? thanks.

You say your Windows Update is not working, yes? Try this Windows Update - Reset then try reinstalling McAfee. And it might not hurt to do this SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation
What was tried: Connected straight to ethernet, Turned off wireless and Defender A/V, Removing the D/L files, D/L fresh from ISO file, launched install file, went through approx 50% and PC rebooted - nor stuck on black screen with swirling dots for OVER 4 hours with a brief HD access every couple of seconds.
Rebooted again -- still swirling dots on black screen. Tried again, same results.
Rebooted with F8 to get original Win 10 back.
Turned on "metered connection" option for WLAN to stop this update from happening. But now I cannot get and security updates for this machine.

I suspect that part of your problem is due to strange time-shifts that appear in your CBS log.

Also, you have a large number of filters present - this may be overloading your system.

What AV's are currently installed - and what other AV's have ever been installed?

I've downloaded the update for my laptop through windows update 3 times now. Each time it completes download, then restarts, configures updates, then gives me the notification: "We couldn't finish installing updates" Following that, a check of my update history shows no failed attempt or any reference to the update being downloaded. There is not at any stage an error code.
I have run the Windows Update Trouble Shooter with no result.
Any ideas will be welcome.

Hi, download the ISO manually and create a bootable medium (which is useful in various circumstances).
(How - where- see the Tutorial section or search the net- not difficult).

That way you download once and can retry and have it available for other purposes. Also you avoid issues with Windows update.

From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Disable any AV. Disconnect any devices you don't need. Uninstall any program that affects or modifies your GUI.

Do a clean boot then try the upgrade using the Win 10 DVD/USB.

If it fails again, you can have a look at the log:
Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows).
Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.

Good luck!

I am running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 and everytime I try to install IE11 from Windows update it gives me the 9C48 error. I've tried downloading and installing the IE 11 standalone installer but it keeps giving an error that "Setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on your computer".

I have been searching Google and these forums and I noticed people attach their CBS and checkSUR logs after running sfc /scannow, so I am doing that as well in hopes of someone being able to help.

I have tried so many different fixes, CheckSUR, subinacl, MS Hot fixes, uninstalling IE11 etc. I hope someone is able to help. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi!
That's what's happening.
I have tried internet research solutions to no avail. Finally had to come ask for help from you guys!

I uninstalled the previous Java update (jre-7u71-windows-i586.exe) I had on my laptop. Then tried to install the latest update (jre-8u31-windows-i586.exe). It would start to install, then I would get error code 1603.

I tried to reinstall the older update. It would not reinstall. Same error code 1603. I guess I am currently without Java.

That sums up the basic problem. Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Thanks.

A:Error code 80070490, Update 2790113 fails to install

Hi zatoichi,

As you've correctly isolated, Windows in your system has failed to install an update on numerous occasions:

Code:
2013-02-28 17:06:12, Info CBS Failed to get session package state for package: Package_3_for_KB2564958~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1 [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
Though unlikely, you may still try resetting the 'Windows Components' to see if that helps: How do I reset Windows Update components?

If the issue persists, please try a manual install: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ng=en&id=27653

You may also refer to the following 'Microsoft Article' that recommends 'Windows Repair' in this case, if 'System Update Readiness Tool' fails to fix it: Windows Update error 80070490

Code 80073712 I have been working on this off and on I am reluctant to post this since it may be the cause of the problems however I think my problem stems from messing around with the drivers when I original purchased the computer It could have also occurred when I upgraded to Windows Professional Everything seemed to work fine like updates for about a year or so Didn't notice the updates not working until about a years ago when I realized my laptop was having issues playing FFXI and I found that my graphics card was not using any resources as well as other things seem to not working Such as sfc scannow when I run it I get an error after about - minutes saying quot Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation quot and when I run DXDiag I get very little information on my computer with a lot of N A's though the amount of RAM is correct as is the video memory I think despite not showing the correct graphics processor I went to school for this kind of stuff and have just fooled myself all these years acting like I actually know stuff I mean I may have been able to figure it out back then But not a chance now I can't even remember any of the steps I followed from other peoples solutions and posts over the past So if the previous stuff isn't actually needed for your information I apologize for wasting your time Actually I did this https support microsoft com en-us kb So yeah the error code I get when I check for new updates Windows Update Error Code And I think I managed to attach that CBS stuff I have no idea what it actually contains I apologize in advanced for being a complete idiot Also when I try and do that SURT I am unable to actually download the file for Windows -bit SP

Welcome to our forum ScottMacFreedom.

I'm not the one to help with your update problem logs but here are a couple of tutorial that will help you find out what is what in your computer.

Proper system specs also helps other help you.

I am connected to internet, Mozilla firefox is ok, utorrent is ok, everything is fine except windows update.
I have try disable the firewall, turn off windows defender, disable antivirus, none of it work.
I downloaded windows10 update assistant, did not work.
I don't know what is blocking windows update form connecting to internet.

I have not been able to successfully install updates KB2676562 or 2679255. And now, along with those, KB2709715 and KB2731847 fail to install.

I have tried multiple fixes:
1. MS Fix It and hot fixes
2. manually installed updates
2. Ran Chkdsk (no errors found)
3. Ran System File Checker tool
4. Reset the Catroot2 folder
5. Regsitered the Windows update files
6. ReNamed the SoftwareDistribution folder
7. Cleared the BITS queue
and 8. Ran the System Update Readiness toll (CheckSur.exe). This is the only thing that has defined a problem. It found the CBS Mum Corrupt 0x800F0900 and the CBS Catalog Corrupt 0x800B0100 and notes 4 unavailable repair files.

Any thoughts on if the CBS corrupt Mum and Catalog are causing the failed updates and how do repair those?

A:Multiple Update Failures / Win7 x64 - Unable to Update, Error 800b010

From the SFC report, it looks like it found a couple of errors in the .NET 3.5 installation - and fixed them (together with a faulty bmp file)
Have you also run a CHKDSK? - often a random error can indicat file system problems, so it would be worth running CHKDSK C: /R and seeing if that helps.

Niemiro hopefully will be around later to assist - but there's nothing in your reports that suggests anything specific he can do.s

Dear Subscribers and Contributors:
After three hours and probably 2 dozen reboots, I have given up and I will no longer try to update Windows 8 and will probably turn off automatic updates. It seems that I'm not alone in this issue and the internet is full of posting with frustrated clients.
Updating Win 8 has become more annoying than a root canal and at least the latter is purposeful.
It's hard to believe that Microsoft can't get its act together after all these years.
If anybody has found a viable solution to this problem (without returning to Win 7 or buying a Mac) please let me know.

Arturo

A:Unable to install any Windows 8 update

Have you tried the MS Apps troubleshooter http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=268423

Read that one guy had used it for some buggy Win 8 apps and it gave him some missing security settings that he wasn't aware existed - could be an unseemingly associated issue, but you could try the Win updates again after running it.

Someone else had found (via MS) that carrying over Office was the cause and uninstalling that resolved - but you've probably already come across these in your own search.

Also have you tried this with a clean boot ?

I'm unable to download Windows security updates (I use Windows XP-Pro) and I can't figure out why.

When Windows Automatic Updates attempts to download, it's unable to complete the installation. Here's a list of the updates that I was unable to unload today:
Security Update for Office 2003 (KB945185)
Security Update for Microsoft Works Suite 2005 (KB943973)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2003 (KB950241)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (KB945432)
Security Update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB947355)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB953465)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (KB943985) v2
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (KB953432)

I've tried turning off my spyware blocking software and disabled my antivirus software, too. I have no problem downloading other software from the internet.

Any ideas where I should look to for a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

Rob

Try Dial-A-Fix. Maybe your installer just needs a flush. And Dial-A-Fix is very safe and will do the job. Download here from BleepingComputer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/160132/how-to-use-dial-a-fix-to-repair-windows-internals-problems/

Pleasefollow the WindowsUpdate Posting Instructions and postthe requested data

If thefile is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files untilthe final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately afterzipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for anumber of reasons)

Hello all I am scouring the internet for answers but I can't seem to find any so I thought I should ask the Gurus down at the Windows Vista Forums. Anyways I am trying to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 and all I get is this error. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

A:Windows Update Error Code 643

Hello Peacemaker,

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error code "1603"

RESOLUTION

To successfully install the update, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer, and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer. You may have to work through more than one of the following methods.

Method 1: Manually remove and reinstall .NET Framework
To manually remove and reinstall the .NET Framework, follow these steps:

1. Remove the .NET Framework.
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Note each version of the .NET Framework that is already installed on the computer. Then, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework.
4. When you are prompted, restart the computer.
Method 2. Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to clean up the MSI database state for all the versions of the .NET Framework.

1. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe
2. Install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility as an administrator or as a user account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
3. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Install Cleanup.
4. In the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, remove all Windows Installer applications for the .NET Framework.
3. Restart the computer.
Download and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework that were previously installed on the computer.

Hi -

The first thing I would suggest that you try is removing PC-cillin Internet Security as its firewall can interfere with Windows Updates.

Trend Micro removal --> http://esupport.trendmicro.com/1/How...n-my-comp.aspx

Reboot upon completion.

Install MSE --> http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Try Windows Updates --> www.update.microsoft.com

Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1

I have been trying unsuccessfully to do all of the helps to get Windows Update to check for updates and install. I tried all of the Fixit and Windows Update Troubleshooter batch files, etc. I thought I was making headway this morning when it said updates would install on the next shutdown. So I shutdown. Looks like 57 updates had a failed status. When I ran the check for updates again, I get the following error code:
C80003FA

I googled and really only found the same help items I have already tried, the fixit's etc.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

We know nothing about your computer, other than it's running Windows 7 Professional SP1, so do the following in it.
Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

Hello,

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 with Windows Updates set to download but no install yet, since many tools start at startup.
However our friends decided to install Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 without asking.
This caused a full hang of the system, including frozen mousepointer.
Hardreset made it come back and it booted up.
But Windows Update now needs to install this update which fails with error code 800F0900.
Found kb2887535 for manual install, which failed with error 800b0100.
Found kb947821 and ran it. Last %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log attached.

sfc /scannow reports Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
WUC code 800F0900
CBS Logs attached.

Seems some Unavailable repair files ?

Kind regards,
Dukejoost

I'm running Windows 7 x86_64 architecture, and I am trying to install Internet Explorer 10 via the Windows Update service (currently I have Internet Explorer 8 installed). This update is continually failing with a 9C59 error (screenshot attached). I have tried to update to Internet Explorer 10 manually via the .exe to install Internet Explorer 10 and it also fails (as does, IE 9).

I have also attached the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS directory as a .zip file. From this, it seems as though some repair files are missing, although I can't quite figure out where these are supposed to be, or from which package/update they should have been installed from.

Any help appreciated,
Jon

The problem seems to be very deep-rooted.
There are C results in your files - but the CBS.log reveals the following error

It's an error type that I would have expected CheckSUR to find - but it appears to miss it.

I;m not sure whether it's a registry error or a file srror at this point - and I can't do much until at least Friday evening (Tom, please take that as an invite to take over! )

I'll be back when I can - post back if you don't hear from me by Saturday

So long story short i was continuously getting notification to install some particular updates again and again .

They were : KB2446704 , KB2418241 , KB2539631 . ( All of them are security updates for .net framework 2.0 sp2 and 3.5 sp1)

So whenever i installed them and restarted my pc they used to show up again . So today i decided to download Windows install clean up utility and uninstall and reinstall .net framework 2.0 sp2 .I uninstalled but when i tried to install it again i couldn't . It showed as a " setup error " .

Note :
Also i have an windows xp sp3 .

A:Can't install 3 windows update and now unable to install .netframework 2

Here's what I'd do, Caveat Emptor & all that stuff...1. Run the FixIt in KB 971187 - How to fix MSI software update registration corruption issues http://support.microsoft.com/kb/9711872. Retry the Update(s).3. If the Update(s) fail(s), proceed to Step 4.4. Download .Net Cleanup Utility: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx5. By using the Cleanup Tool, uninstall all .Net Framework entries. (You will not be allowed to remove the .NET Framework 2.0 on Vista and 3.5 on Windows 7 because they are Operating System components.)6. Reboot.7. Download and install the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 by clicking the link below (this will also install .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2):http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en8. Reboot9. Check for & install all important/critical updates/security patches/etc (do not select any optional .Net updates yet) for .Net thru Windows Update.Hope this helps.

First off, thank you to whomever helps me work this out.

The problem: I have recently inherited a Eee PC c/XP sp3 and wanted to install Openoffice on it. Attempting to install open office triggered an error, which requested I update to the latest version of IE. Upon trying to activate windows update in order to install IE and any other necessary updates I run into a series of errors preventing me from activating it. I then tried to dwnld/install IE 8 from microsofts update page, which was on 50% successful. During the install I encounter a ieseptup.exe - Bad image error which reads:

The application or D:: C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuapi.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

And that is where I am currently at.

A:Unable to activate windows update/install IE8

You do not need to update IE8 to install Open Office. Any browser Firefox, Chrome etc will work
For your other errors, go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing or corrupted files from the disc

Found something that worked Removed folders related to updates in C windows softwaredistribution WU went off without a hitch Don't see a way to remove the thread You may delete lock this if you wish Thanks anyways Thanks for your time For some time now Vista -bit has not been able to install two updates on my computer specifically KB and The two always fail Other updates that appear will come along and install fine leaving these two as fails everytime The code in Window's Update is CC I click quot Get Help quot and see nothing helpful I moved onto updates. Windows unable install Update to two trying stand alone updates and they fail as well Once downloaded I run them and get quot wusa exe - Bad Image C Windows system wuapi dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error Try installing the program again using the original installation media or Windows Update unable to install two updates. contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support quot followed by quot Installer encountered an error Windows Update unable to install two updates. x c is not a valid Win application quot This is the same error for both WUs Did a little looking around haven't seen anything at seems to match my problem exaclty Did see some people with the same error message under Windows XP who were asked to Run sfc purgecache and sfc scannow Did both sfc scannow results in a few minutes of scanning then the window closes at with no information I assume it had no problems to report Thanks again for your time would love to get this out of the way

A:Windows Update unable to install two updates.

1) Go to your "Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" folder. You should see
a bunch of folders with random looking names

2) Look in each of these folders until you find one that has a .cab file
with a name that contains the update number that failed (i.e.
Windows6.0-KB929427-x86-EXPRESS.cab or something similar). If you can't find
the cab file there should be some other file in the folder that indicates its
number.

3) Backup then delete the entire folder (the one with the random looking
name) that contains that cab file

4) Repeat for each of the updates that are failing for you

5) You might have to reboot at this point but I didn't have to

6) Either wait for the updater to notify you or manually check for updates

7) The updates should be available for download again

8) Let the updater download and apply the previously failed updates and it
should work this time

Hi all. I'm not able to install Security Update for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP (KB936782)

Everytime i click "Install", the installation will go on until it shows a message saying that the update could not be installed.

I can install the rest of my windows updates except for this particular one.

I've installed the WGA (genuine checker thingy), cleaned my registry but nothing works.

Solution please... Thanks.
