Graphics card doesn't fit backplate but fits in PCI Express slot

Q: Graphics card doesn't fit backplate but fits in PCI Express slot

This was really perplexing. I am trying to install a Galaxy GT520 on my Inspiron 546. So i take of the slot i need in the back-plate and fit the card into the slot. But...the card didn't fit into the back-plate. It's like a millimeter off.... There is a little slot that the back-plate slots go into but it doesn't fit into the slot. It's almost like it needs to be a millimeter longer. Thanks to anyone who helps.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

GT520 is a PCI and should fit the 546, line it up as ^^^^ shows and press hard, dont ram it in there, but apply a bit of force.

Hello My first post
Anyway i really need to upgrade my computers graphics card ( Nvidia 7600 GS 512mb intergrated version) as its flagging in this day and age and its stopping me playing most games now (i can just scrape skyrim but it falls under its min requirments) I will get a top of the range laptop soon when i go to uni but will keep my desktop for now so i need to add a better graphics card (Rest seem to be fine for the mo) .The problem is the integrated cards is already in the PCI express slot (opened up comp and i can see it in the slot) will be safe to remove the board and would a new card function in it Thanks for the help.

A:Integrated graphics card in PCI-Express slot

If the 7600 is in the PCI e slot, by definition it is not integrated. You should be able to pull it out and swap in a newer card without any issues, so long as your power supply can handle it. Be sure to remove your old graphics drivers before performing the upgrade.

I m installing a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR card which says it ll work in either PCI Express x or x in look PCI x16 doesn't card 1800 Hauppauge right Express slot into a Asus P T motherboard The video card is blocking the single PCI Express x slot so I installed the tv card in the second x slot It didn t look right putting this short card into a long x slot as it was sort of curved over the unused pins When I booted my pc my bios was changed to boot from floppy and dates on my system changed I immediately shut down and pulled the card out after seeing the bios screen My question is Hauppauge 1800 card doesn't look right in PCI Express x16 slot should I try and install the tv card in the PCI Express x slot and move my video card to a different x slot as I have two others If so would this require alot of change or would Windows immediately recognize the move and automatically reconfigure OR should I try in the same x slot again and not worry if I m prompted to setup bios again Thanks nbsp

A:Hauppauge 1800 card doesn't look right in PCI Express x16 slot

I can't speak to the 1800 tuner, but I have the 1250 and it goes right into the PCI-E x1 slot. I think you have to install the Hauppage drivers before the card, and/or ignore the M$ "found new hardware" wizard. The 1250 is just a single tuner, that the only difference.

The 1250 card is on the same size PC board as the 1800. My board only has one PCI-E x 16 lane, so the the tuner has no other place to go but a PCI-E x 1 slot. It works just fine there. It didn't change the system date.

I don't think it, "doesn't look quite right there, but I had no preconception of how it was supposed to look in the first place.

BIOS logo screen or a few seconds after that while inserted in the x slot Sometimes it works however yet it is so infrequently that I ve given up on the x slot for now It will even freeze after I ve entered my BIOS settings page even just while browsing around in it The same graphics card in my PCI-E x slot works fine if you ignore the fact that it s running at it s potential speed At least I can boot the machine up I ve spoken with a few different professionals about this and the conclusion is that my problem lies either a with my PCI-E x slot or b with my GTX Apparently the graphics card COULD work just fine in the x slot and still be damaged Now I know that you re going to tell me to try a different card in my computer or try the card in a different computer However that isn t practical for me at the moment I was wondering what you guys think or if anyone has experience with this first-hand What are you leaning towards Mobo or Gfx card nbsp

I just bought a HP Pavilion tx2525nr that has a Express Card/34 PC Card Slot.
I was told that the Clearwire Express card would be compatable, but it turns out the Clearwire card is an Express 54.

Is there an adaptor that will allow me to use the Clearwire Express 54 with the HP Express Card/34 PC Card Slot that my laptop notebook has?

If not an adapter, is there another viable solution?

I want to purchase a specific sound card for my laptop (the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card), but, according to Dell, I do not have the required PCMCIA slot. Instead, I have an Express Card slot.

Would the PCMCIA soundcard work in the Express Card slot? Some of the Dell technicians have said that it will not work, but they have been wrong in the past.

Are there any other options if the sound card would not work in the Express slot? Dell said something about buying an adapter, but they weren't sure as to what kind that would be.

Thanks for any help.

I have an XPSL702X and an Inspiron N5510. On the left side of both these units is a slot titled:
SDXC/MMC-MS/PRO. I'm hoping this is an "express card" slot, but it looks like a memory card reader/adapter slot.
Can I utilize an express card in this slot? I need to somehow hook up 1394 firewire to one of these computers. Help!!!

A:Express Card Slot?

It is indeed a memory card reader -- not an Express Card slot.   Neither of these systems will take an ExpressCard -- about the only systems in recent years that had/have the option are Latitude and Precision models -- none of the consumer systems (Inspiron/XPS/Vostro/Studio) of recent vintage support ExpressCards.

Not a compatibility question, I'm fairly certain that wouldn't be an issue. The question is about overall performance gain. Looking at a Radeon R9 270, currently have a 5670. Here's a benchmark comparison from hwcompare.com - now I'm not a heavy gamer but I am running a mod on a particular favorite that could use a boost. Thing is, the m/b (being 2.0) can't take full advantage of the card otherwise it might be something of a no brainer. Card has excellent reviews and happens to be on sale.
So there's got to be some people here that have been in a similar situation, wondering spend the coin or not. Lets say the $ isn't an issue, just wondering about what to expect in actual gain.
Thanx.

A:PCI Express 3.0 card in 2.0 slot

Using a PCI-e 3.0 card in a PCI-e 2.0 slot will give less performance but not as much as one would think—maybe no more than 10% less—over what it would have done in a PCI-e slot. However, the newer PCI-e 3.0 card very well may give far better performance than an older PCI-e 2.0 card, even when running on only PCI-2.0.

Hi everyone.

I recently bought an AGP 8x nVidia 7600gt. However, it doesn't fit into my AGP slot. It is loose and I am scared of putting too much force on it that it will dmaage it.

I'm also not aware of what that tag on the end does?

The smaller of the two slots is facing the front of the computer. I'm also thinking that it isn't aligned properly.

Any help?

A:AGP card doesn't fit into slot

Sometimes, certain cards just don't fit on certain boards. I've had to return a couple because they hit against something. A couple other times, I managed to make them fit by shaving off an edge, but this is risky work and no circuit traces can get damaged in the process.

Hi,

The file server I am currently using, is running on an old MS-7173 motherboard which (for some reason) is only kicking out about 45MB/s maximum throughput on file transfers, even though the CPU isn't anywhere near full. I am using a spare (I think cheap) Gigabit Network Card in the system at the moment which I had laying around.

I am considering getting an "Intel Gigabit PRO/ 1000CT PCIe Desktop Adapter" however, according to the specifications the card runs "PCI Specification Revision PCIe 1.1".

From the motherboard specifications, it uses: "One PCI Express x 1 slot. (supports PCI Express Bus specification v1.0a compliant) ".
My question is: Will that PCIe Card with revision v1.1 work in a motherboard with a v1.0a slot?

Thanks for your answers

No, it won't work. But he might have a spare PCI slot that he could use, although since PCI-E cards are so much faster than PCI I don't why anyone would want to do that.

A:PCI Express card slot assignements

With that board, you don't have enough PCI-e lanes to go around on without losing your rear USB 3.0 ports or losing a bit of performance on your 7970. The 7970 goes in the red x16 slot. The Blackmagic can go in either the top or second x1 slot.

The only way you will be able to run the x4 Datapath without reducing GPU peerformance is in the bottom slot, in which case, you would have to reset the slot to x4, which means you would lose the third PCI-e x1 slot and two USB 3.0 ports on the rear. If you need those rear USB 3.0 ports, then you would have to run the x4 Data path in the white x16 slot. That will cause your GPU to run on only eight lanes (x8). However, the performance loss won't be 50%. At worst, it would probably be only 10-20%.

PCI-e lane distribution can be difficult to sort out. Some boards offer more flexibility than others. Some boards use additional chips to run ports like USB 3.0 and SATA; others steal lanes from PCI-e slots. Because I needed more lanes than a standard board could support (24 lanes), I went with a x79 board to get 40 lanes. Even then, I had problems being able to run as many cards as I wanted (I wound up getting two external TV tuners instead of two internal TV tuner cards) .

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here has tried this, I have a spare monitor and wondering what you think about doing this. I have an OLD ATI Graphics card (fits PCIE of course) and I know it will work but wondering if it's worth the effort. My 560ti has only a 2 monitor capability and just 1 other PCIE x1 slot is free just above the card.

So anyone here tried this? (I know this works if you do it right.)

(N.B. I have read the websites about how to do this, I am looking for personal, first hand experience.)

Haven't tried it.

I'm confused, though. Are you trying to fit a PCI-E X16 card in an X1 slot? I don't think it's possible.

You can certainly try an X1 card in an X16 slot. I've never seen an X1 graphics card, although I know that they exist.

(I've got an X1 soundcard running in a slot that is X16 mechanical, X4 electrically.)

A:Problems with usb ports and express card slot

It sadly does seem quite likely you have caused a problem with the motherboard usb 'power grid' It is possible the bios has simply stuck the system into a protected mode in order to protect the hardware inside.
The only way I know to check that this is the case is to power down, unplug the laptop and remove the battery for about an hour, then attempt starting back up with no usb devices connected, and see if proper functionality returns. It could simply be as of the moment the laptop has never fully shutdown and been given a chance for the hardware to reset after the fault caused by the faulty plug.

Sadly in your current situation that would probably be the best case scenario.

I have a Toshiba Laptop Satellite L305-s5933

located here under Specifications, Communications, Ports

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114613

As you can see it takes a 34 or 54 express card

So I got a 34 express card, it is located here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170653516740?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I tried to insert it and It just keeps sliding around. There is a little latch off to the side and I've press it and slid it around and tried pushing it. Nothing happens. I don't want to push it too hard or it will break.

I've had the laptop for four years and this is the first time I've tried inserting an express card. Did I break something?

Are there any tricks to do doing this? I'm doing this because I want to upgrade to USB3.

Hello everyone I am currently sitting here with a dilemma The problem I am facing takes back two weeks where I got my new graphic card MSI 2.0 slot sound Insert card into PCI Express possible? Ti I have a CoolerMaster HAF case my PSU is relatively small but compared to my older graphic card the new one is absolutely massive I also uses Asus P T Deluxe v Mobo which has PCI-E slots which I found out recently They are placed in this order from left to right xPCI-E slots x PCI slots x PCI-E slot I noticed that my card turns out to be at degrees when I'm running a game for instance because there is too little space between the graphic card and PSU which makes it very little to no airflow in between I decided to put my graphic Insert sound card into PCI Express 2.0 slot possible? card into the stand alone slot PCI-E to create some space But I have to sacrifice my sound card which I can't put it into the PCI slot no longer Also the sound card technically should be able to fit into a PCI-E slot correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't reach out of the edge on the motherboard what should I do

A:Insert sound card into PCI Express 2.0 slot possible?

No it shouldn't as they are two completely different interfaces,

Conventional PCI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PCI Express - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Have you tried it with the sound card in the second PCI slot to see how it affects the video card temps? Could also try the sound card in the first PCI slot witth the video card in the second/middle PCI-E slot.

Failing all that it is either drop the sound card (which one by the way?) and use onboard, or get a PCI-E sound card that can then be put in any of the available PCI-E slots.

Hi. I have recently aquired a very old computer (8-9 years old). I am looking at replacing the old agp graphics card because it is not working properly and then sell the computer for quite a low price. Any way.

I have looked in the case and took the card out and I belive that the graphics card slot is agp 2x. The card has two slots in it leading me to belive that it is a universal 1.5v 3.3v card. I am just wondering what cards my computer would accept and whether a 4x card would work ok in a 2x card slot.

Any help apreciated.

Thanks.

Alright so I got an Aspire M since One day it suddenly card Graphics or slot? the is broken it wouldn t start up Beeping noises are heard from the CPU long short After a bit of research it seems Graphics card broken or is it the slot? that the computer could not detect the graphic card which results in it not starting up So I reinserted the graphic card Failed Did it again Failed Repeated for hour Still hearing long short beeps Then after a few maybe hours I tried again reinserting the graphics driver connecting the monitor cable and turned it on It worked Graphics card broken or is it the slot? I didn t know what happened but it worked After Graphics card broken or is it the slot? I was done using the computer I turned it off The next day today the problem came back Reinserted plugged monitor cable turned on and it works Now I don t know whether its the graphic card or the slot Wonder if replacing it will work I m afraid that if I turn off the PC the problem will return Any help would be appreciated I never opened the CPU since for cleaning nbsp

A:Graphics card broken or is it the slot?

Hey Falconet. I think I would be far more likely that the graphic card is flaky since in your research the beeps point to the graphics card. If the slot were damaged, chances are you wouldn't get it to work at all, and since it worked one day and not the next, and since the slot itself won't break on it's own, I would suspect the card first. It wouldn't hurt to check both connection points of the cable the next time, although the beeps indicate the card's operation itself as not being right.

A:Question about AGP slot/graphics card

Provided that slot you have is agp x8 and not a slower slot then it should work fine.
Only thing, there was no mention of minimum psu spec in your link. You need to have a look at the label on the side of your psu for its wattage and its amperage on the 12volt rail.

You might want to blank out your windows serial so than no-one else can use it.

I'm curious about the PCIE technology. I know there are four PCIE types (1, 2, 4, and 16) all with different size slots. As it stands now there aren't very many card at all that use these slots except for Video Cards, which use the 16. My MOBO has two video card slots (I originally thought I would use that slot for another video card and still might do that) only one of which I am currently using.

Is there any intent in the future to use these slots (i.e., the 16s) for other add-on cards? Are the only for use for video cards?

Ok, so I am helping a friend upgrade his desktop's graphics card. Apperantally, he currently has an integrated card, ad I belive you can install a dedicated card despite that, correct? Also, we are not sure exactally what slot the card goes in, we belive it is this one:

A:Is this the slot for a graphics card? (Other questions as well)

It is possible. Does your friend have the MotherBoard Manual? Its best to be sure.

What's the model, and serial number of the board?

And yes you can install a separate card, but you have to disable the integrated graphics through the BIOS.

A:Video Card not recognized in PCI-Express x16 - Slot Security

Hi: If your onboard video adapter doesn't work, and resetting the CMOS doesn't work, you can try putting the PCI express x16 video card you have now into the white PCIe x4 slot (the white video card slot next to the black PCIe x16 slot), and see if you can get into the BIOS to change the PCI x 16 setting.  It might work in the x4 slot. If that doesn't work either, then you will have to install a PCI video card (one that goes into one of the white PCI slots) and use that to get into the BIOS so you can change the settings to enable the PCIe x16 slot. So, see if you can find a cheap, used, PCI video card on eBay, and that should allow you to have video again. You also need to make sure you have removed all connections from the PC when you reset the CMOS (all cables, power cord, mouse, monitor, etc).

There are different Toshiba notebooks on the market and Toshiba releases new models in very short intervals.
I would recommend you to visit the Toshiba notebook product page and to compare the available series and models.
The Tecra laptops offer a business professional use and Portege series are very best in mobile computing.
The Satellite series are entertainment machines designed to provide exceptional all-round performance.

hey guys i want a low cost graphics card for my pc .i have motherboard which has pcie x1 slot .could u suggest me list of low cost(50$-70$) graphics card having SM 5.0

A:want a low cost graphics card for pcie x1 slot

I'm not familiar with SM 5, but I believe that it is identical to DirectX 11 support.

This vendor only sells in the US and Canada, but it gives you some idea what exists:

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Video Cards & Video Devices, Desktop Graphics / Video Cards, PCI Express x1, DirectX 11

Are you sure that your motherboard has no PCI-E X16 slot? The last person that I encountered here thought that his board had no PCI-E X16 slot, only X1, but he was mistaken.

I just purchased this pre-built machine:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7375900

Acer Aspire AM3970-UR14P DT.SJYAA.003 Desktop PC

I'm attempting to order a graphics card upgrade ( probably an affordable Nvida GT 650 ti . Obviously the card will consume some space due to the fan. I'm trying to figure out if the card ( or a similar dual slot PCIx card) will fit onto the motherboard. I know from past experience that a lot of non-custom built PCs have little to no room for expansion.

I've searched all over the net about this particular model number of Acer Aspire and can come up with no information about the motherboard to check for myself.

Would anyone happen to know where i can find info about the motherboard for this particular model of Acer Aspire desktop?

** Also, i do intend on removing the included radeon card.

It is hard to tell if it would fit the case, but the specs state that your computer only has a 300W Power Supply and that definitely will not work with the card you list.

Hi

I hope this finds you well.

Yesterday I got a new 22" monitor for my desktop PC but as I only have a VIA/S3G Unichrome IPG graphics card I am unable to set the proper resolution for the new monitor.

I thought this would be fixed by getting a new graphics card so today I purchased a GeForce 9500GT only to find that it doesn't seem to slot into my motherboard. I fear I may have to return both the graphics card and monitor to the shop!

Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong? My motherboard is a KM400 8235.

Thanks for your time...and happy new year!

It booted up and had to reinstall the new drivers for the GeForce 1650 (Integrated), but everything worked fine. I figured that meant my graphics card or RAM was broken, so I took it to my closest computer repair store. They tested the power supply to see if it was supplying enough power to the card and it passed. They also tested the RAM and the graphics card to see if they were broken, but they both passed. They told me to either leave it with them for a week or just use the integrated graphics (which of course stubborn me chose to take it home for now). I am willing to leave it at the store if necessary and I also have a compatible motherboard in mind that I could buy if that will solve the issue, but before I make any actions I figured I would take advantage of these forums and hold out on using the different card for a week or so.

Hello,
I just got a Asus A8N-SLI mother board and a pny 7800gt video card. The card only works in the bottom pci express slot though, when i try to plug into the top the monitor light keeps blinking like nothings going through. Everything seems to work fine when in the bottom slot but i am worried about the heat. I have my sound card close to that so theres not much flow between like their would be in the top slot. (also the top slot is blue, bottom is black, if that makes a difference) I left the default set at single card mode on the motherboard. Also being in that slot is the card running at full capacity? 16x?
My other specs are:

Antec 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 PSU
AMD 64 3700

thanks

Does this format fit with the XPS8900 PCIe slot?

If you really want to get creative or ambitious, uprade your MOBO and RAM and then get a GPU. You can keep all your original hardware and case.

PCI-E slot problems anything else will help please don t hesitate to ask and I will add information as needed Secondly THIS SYSTEM DID WORK I can t remember exactly when it all went wrong and as I hadn t been gaming for months it was a kind of irrelevent Motherboard or graphics card error... PCI-E slot problems problem when I did a format PC Just got clogged and so this was the easy option and my graphics card didn t display a picture on my monitor I just took it out and used the Onboard crappy graphics I am now faced with a dilemma SOMETHING isn t right my PC without Graphics card installed just would not progress past the BIOS screen failing to load drive information etc Even when I took off everything and tried to boot the board with no other devices present First I naturally changed the PSU Luckily I had another exactly the same model etc and the same problem existed So annoyed I rifled through my older PC bits n bobs and built up an old Ghz system with AGP grapics but after realising that with only GB of DDR it was as useless as band aid for a severed limb I tried again with my current system This time it booted While I had it running I made sure to download the latest BIOS version and upgraded Now I have the issue of the PCI-E Graphics card not working except straight after the upgrade of the BIOS it did work BUT it stalled again on the BIOS screen and after a reset it shunned the PCIE graphics again and I was forced to plug the monitor back into the onboard graphics This is where I stand now I have no other PCIE board or Graphics card and only enough cash to buy one or the other for at least a month - And PC components are not easily returned so should I make the wrong choice on which I buy then I will be forced to meander on agitated and vexed by the situation The onboard graphics is useless not only because it s mb but also because it randomly cops out filling the screen with erm imagine an old TV set that is not recieving a signal and you get that white static - Well it s like that but motionless And I am then forced to reset the PC and then get back into windows to a graphics error Or it just Blue screens me Sorry for the long post and probably over complicated explaination - But my question is a simple one Which would you buy if you could only choose one I m assuming MOBO but if I buy it and I am stuck with working MOBO s and one broken graphics card I ll be a tad miffed to say the least Same if I end up with two working graphics card So I throw myself at you all hoping you can determine which would be the best place to start Additional Info Memory test - Passed Processor Test - Passed PSU - Passed All HDD and DVD Drives are okay also nbsp

Hi,

I have a Radeon HD 4500 graphics card that's plugged into the PCI express slot on my motherboard.

The heat sink on the graphics card is huge and covers the next PCI slot down completely which I now need. I don't want to buy a new graphics card as the one I have works fine and I can't afford a new one.

I can take the heat sink off but I don't want the thing to overheat and blow.

I have looked for a heat sink but I can't find one this small enough to fit.

Can anyone offer a low cost solution to the problem?

The graphics card is a Radeon HD 4500.

Cheers

A:Graphics card heat sink blocking PCI slot

It will self destruct in the blink of an eye with no heat sink on it. Also, the current heat sink is as big as it is for a reason. IMHO putting a smaller one on is probably not a good idea unless it specifically states its compatible with that video card. Water cooling might work but that will likely cost as much as finding a new video card.

how to check my pcie slot working or not. When i inserted nvidia Gforce 9500gt it is not detecting my mother board (Asus M2N VM HDMI ) but graphics cards fan is working. then how can i identifies the slot is faulty or not. Is their any changes to be done in the bios. Please help me. My processor is AMD Phenom 9550 and 3Gb DDR2 ram is inserted.

A:PCI-E slot issue or any changes to be done in BIOS to detect my graphics card

You do need to go into BIOS and disable the onboard video card in order for one plugged into a PCI slot to work. That is most likely your problem.

There are diagnostic cards that you can plug in to test your motherboard such as the one at this site:

http://www.pc-diagnostics.com/pc_diagnostics_tools/flippost_isa_pci_bus.shtml

You also might call nearby computer stores to see if they have the equipment there and will run the diagnostic for you if you bring in your motherboard.

A:Asus M4N68T-M LE V2 won't detect external graphics card in PCI-E Slot

One problem that is common when installing these big video cards into Micro-ATX motherboards is that you may not get the card to fully seat properly because some obstruction is holding it up.

Carefully check the entire card/MB area to see if there is anything that may be propping the card up.
Remove the card and re-seat it looking and listening carefully to hear the rear tang on the video card "click" into place.

I'm involved in selecting a new video graphics card for a custom computer I have that has an HP motherboard with one PCI express x16 slot. On looking at various 512Mb boards I see that some of them are PCI express 2.0 x16 instead. Is the 2.0, whatever that distinction is, compatible with and usable with my motherboard/computer, or does the slot and/or other hardware features have to be different to utilize this 2.0 version?

A:Does a Dell Dimension 2400 have the ability to have a pci slot radeon graphics card?

Ouch, just checked it now, you have no AGP slot

Yes, you can install a PCI graphics card, however, be warned that these cards perform horribly, but you will be able to run CS Source.

The best PCI graphics card I can remember of is
GeForce FX5500 128MB PCI version.

It will run CS Source and BF2, however, prepare for a slideshow (especially in BF2).

I Googled video card backplates and there seems to be two camps. One camp says it's a good heatsink and makes things look nicer. The other says it's just a dust trap that adds weight to the system.

I have no experience with them so I figured I'd ask your opinions on backplates.

A:Your Take on Vid Card Backplate?

I wouldn`t have a card without one, today there`s no reason not to have one, they cost $20 if the card doesn`t come with one already.

Its usually just the graphics cards, they do fail especially if they overheat - then video card fan not speeding up might have been the problem - most are dynamic and should actually speed up under load. Depending on the manufacturer of your 8800GTX you might be able to get it replaced under warranty if they have a 3 year or greater warranty.

A:T420s Nvidia Graphics Card & Express Card Question...

The T420s with Nvidia GPU has two graphics card that can switch on the fly, if you only want the discrete gpu, just go into your bios menu under graphics there is an option to select discrete. With the Nvidia Optimus (which is what you have), it can switch between Nvidia and Intel GPU depending on your application needs. This will allow you to conserve battery or power. Expresscard slot 34 mm slot is occupied by the card reader that you ordered. What you are talking about within the ram slot cover, is the mPCIe slot, which can be occupied by a mSATA drive. http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420s-T400s-T410s-removal-of-4-in-1-SD-card-...

A:lost cd-romdrive while installing graphics card card doesn,t work right either

Welcome to the forum Ray and Julia,

Recheck all the cables and make sure they are plugged in properly.

When you install a new video card you have to remove ALL drivers for the old card.
Uninstall the drivers for the old card in Add/Remove Programs and if you don't have the option there, check in Control Panel/Device Manager and make sure there are not 2 cards showing under Display Adapters. If the old one is still showing, Highlight it and click Remove.

Uninstall the new video card drivers, restart then re-install the new drivers.

sounds like you need to check your monitor settings. the monitor should have its own menu where you can stretch, move and do other things so your screen will be in the proper location.

A:new pci-express 2.0 (or 1.0) graphics card to buy..?

When you say it failed, what exactly happened?

PCI Express is backwards compatabile.
Also, PCI Express 2.0 and 2.1 are basically the same thing.
2.1 just introduced support for some newer features, but they run at the same speed & are still backward compatable with older technology.

If your current board is a PCI-X 1.0, it should work without issue. It is quite possible you had a bad card.

A:Question about PCI-e slot below dual slot video card

My opinion ...

Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.

The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek« ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.

I have an Geforce 7300 LE and am about to order an Asus GeForce GTX 660, although before I buy it I was wondering are all PCI Bus's the same or can you get differeant ones. As my geforce 7300 is an PCI Express 1, whereas the asus is labeled as an Pci express 3.0.

Does this mean I have to find an graphics card which is an PCI 1.0?

A:Graphics Card PCI Bus express compatiblity

This is from Wikipedia: PCI Express - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In August 2007, PCI-SIG announced that PCI Express 3.0 would carry a bit rate of 8 gigatransfers per second (GT/s), and that it would be backward compatible with existing PCIe implementations

... PC-I Express 2.0 slot?

I want to purchase a new graphics card for my PC and it has an available 2.0 slot. Problem is, the graphics cards I am looking at all say 2.1 on the packaging. So, my question again is will the 2.1 card work in my 2.0 slot? I had the Best Buy sales computer/sales associate stumped on this one.

A:Will an ATI graphics card, PC-I Express 2.1 work in a...

Yes, they are backwards compatible

Im interested in upgrading from fx 5200 to 7600 gs but i have older motherboard (msi 6547 ultra-c) with only conventional PCI slots. The question is: Can i put a PCI Express video card into conventional PCI slot.

A:put a PCI Express graphics card into conventional PCI

No.

Well, I suppose with force you could, but it would very likely destroy both the card and the mainboard.

I Pro Win Graphics card register doesn't XP finally bit the bullet and did a installation repair of the system The PC works fine now except for one fact - XP Pro cannot see the Radeon X GT AGP card According to the Hardware Device manager I have no display adapter and the system refuses to install drivers downloaded from the AMD site Even the installation software from AMD balks since it too cannot find the card While this is going on Windows is using the standard vga driver I would have been inclined to think that the card might be faulty but This is a dual booting PC and the alternative OS is Lubuntu The Win XP Pro doesn't register Graphics card card is identified absolutely correctly in that system and the driver used is excellent I Win XP Pro doesn't register Graphics card would be grateful for any help in getting Windows to recognize the video card Update I solved this Somewhere in the Hardware Device listings was something called a Microsoft AGP Filter abd a little further down a ViA AGP something or other I uninstalled them and re-started XP now said it had fouund new Hardware and offered to install I declined assuming that if the system could now see the graphics card ATI should also do so as I had already an ATI driver handy Installed the ATI driver and it worked so this machine is now

Hello First sorry if I am asking simple doesn't graphics fan turn card's My questions but I really don t know the answers I don t mean to waste your time and I would really appreciate any help My PC freezes up whenever I try and play a game and it happens with all of my games This started to happen a couple of weeks ago Everything was okay before this started happening I haven t changed the hardware and the only software change I have made was to install Civ IV Grrr Usually the screen just freezes and I have to restart The games start as normal and play as normal for about mintues My graphics card's fan doesn't turn before they freeze My graphics card's fan doesn't turn up On a hunch I tried swapping my Radeon Pro for my old MX graphics card There are no problems with the old graphics card After putting the Radeon Pro back in my machine I noticed that the fan doesn t turn I had to use a mirror to check I took the card out to clean the fan and I noticed that the heatsink was hot I say I noticed the heatsink was hot - I actually burnt my finger and hopped around the room swearing So my diagnosis is the games are freezing up because the graphics card is overheating And the graphics card is overheating because the fan isn t working I don My graphics card's fan doesn't turn t know why the fan isn t working The card is connected up with a four-pin lead from the PSU and should have all the power is needs My PSU is W Does my diagnosis sound okay - is the problem with the fan What can I do about it I m hoping that I can replace either the fan or both the heatsink and fan on my graphics card but I don t even know if that s possible What do you recommend I already have two case fans and I don t have a spare PCI slot for extra cooling All helpful suggestions welcomed - except the suggestion to just carry on using my old graphics card and stop whining nbsp

A:My graphics card's fan doesn't turn

Arctic Cooling makes extremely high quality, quiet aftermarket coolers for ATI GPU's. The units for the 9800 Pro's are about $30 USB. Combined with a dab of Arctic Silver 5, you're 9800 Pro should no longer have any temperature related issues... plus also be very ready to try Overclocking if you choose this route.

The main problem is- Arctic Silencers are about 40mm thick, so it will be tight in the AGP slot if you have something in the first PCI slot. I'd think this is a bad combination anyways since the first PCI slot usually has shared resources with the AGP slot and should always be left open anyways.

If you think you have enough room (try measuring from the PCB on the 9800 pro and out where the fan is now to be 45mm or so), the link is:
http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=36&data=1&disc=

It's either this or you remove the fan yourself and hit an electronics store in hopes of finding a suitable replacement if you wish to repair vs. replace the 9800 Pro.

If it's a true-blue ATI, it may still be under warranty as ATI cards of that era carry a 3-year warranty. If you still have proof of purchase documentation, ATI will most likely RMA the card in a week or two. Realize any repairs you attempt yourself will of course void that warranty.

Good luck!

We've recently had a new graphics card installed, GeForce 220, and are having problems viewing on the TV. When we start the computer we can see it loading up, but when it finishes and gets to the desktop the screen will go blank and we can't see anything. The computer is no forced to use the VGA and we can't watch any videos, DVDs etc. The computer will not recognize the TV if we have both the TV and a monitor. We have tried other tvs/monitors and the video card is working properly so we figure it is the tv being a 720, anyone have any solutions/suggestions for me that don't involve buying a new TV? Oh we are running Vista 32bit. Thanks!

hello

i have intel motherboard dg31pr and i m planning to buy new graphics ccard which is HD 6670 OR HD 6750 .....

the problem is will i be able to run pci e 2.1 on 1.0 or i should buy another card !

And My psu is 450 watts ! will it work on that psu or i will have to upgrade it too

reply ASAP !

A:graphics card pci express 2.1 will work with 1.0 dg31pr

abdullahtaha, welcome to the Seven Forums.

To answer your question, yes it will. PCI-E 2.1 is backwards compatible with 1.0. The card may not perform as fast as it is capable of (a few per cent, if that), but it will work just fine.

As far as the PSU goes, as long as it is a decent one and not some no-name one, it too will be fine.

Hi,

Has any one anyonee info on a pci express 2.0 x16 video card that:
Does not require any extra power connectors (gets all power from pcie slot - I have 240 PSU)
is low profile... and
Can run Call of Duty4

I'm maxed out googling this combination of requirements :-(

Anybody know one? Or just a regular pci express 64 bit graphics card.

A:Whats a good 64 bit pci express x16 graphics card.

By 64bit do you mean the memory interface? A 64bit memory interface isn't very good though, 128bit is better and 256bit is the best. If you still want a 64bit interface, then this is about as good as you can get.

Hi all

I have H61M-ITX board with 1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot (blue @ x16 mode)
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H61M-ITX/

I wan to install there PCI Express x 4 card:
http://dektec.com/Products/PCIe/DTA-2144/index.asp

I made clean Win XP SP3 install + all MB drivers on top. After I inserted pcie x4 card and boot up. Win XP didn't detect the card (though leds on card are blinking from periodically)

I then tied LAN adapter I have to check if all is fine with MB. I took this one:
http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?categoryid=235&model=TG-3468

same behaviour - system doesn't see it but if I plug eth cable then leds on lan card blink.

please tell me what is wrong I do? I checked bios for anything related to PCIe and found nothing.

A:PCIe x4 card doesn't run in PCIe x16 slot

Have you tried updating your Intel chipset drivers? They can be found at Intel.com in the download center. They would have updates for the PCIe drivers and other assorted H61 chipset features.

hi there,
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?

A:which graphic card slot do i require for my PCI slot

The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.

You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.

Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?

I m running an eMachines M notebook It has an ATI Radeon Mobility U also known as ATI Radeon acknowledge card graphics my System doesn't Mobility IGP M graphics card I recently installed Vista I noticed that I didn t have the Aero color scheme available and discovered it was because I didn t have D Acceleration I checked the Device Manager to see if there was a problem with my graphics card System doesn't acknowledge my graphics card and low and behold it was only showing VGA I disabled VGA and rebooted and Device Manager then listed my graphics card but had the yellow exclamation point indicating that there was a resource conflict and that the graphics card wouldn t work until I disabled another device on the system I couldn t figure out where the conflict was I disabled just about System doesn't acknowledge my graphics card everything I could without completely crashing my system but every time I would disable a device more and more resource conflicts would pop up How can I get my system to recognize my graphics card without having conflicting resources Also is there any way to enable D Acceleration on my graphics card I don t think it supports it but I ve seen a few mentions of a patch or something nbsp

A:System doesn't acknowledge my graphics card

The yellow flag may or may not be a resource conflict. Usually it is simply a defective or incorrect driver. Download the new driver. Once you know where it is, go to the Device Manager in System and remove or disable existing driver. Then install correct driver for VISTA.
Cannot figger out why you would want VISTA on an M310. I would move back to WXP at the first opportunity, as eMachines does not easily make the drivers available.

A:System doesn't recognize graphics card

Hello Thunck,
Did it just stop suddenly or has it been playing up for a while ?, if you have another card can you try that or try re-seating your card, and also check to see if it is getting power, i had a problem like this and i removed the power lead from the PSU for about 5 min's, then re-connected it and it worked, dont ask me why but it did. Good luck and post your results.
