I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone Yesterday I was working on my desktop and Windows Update decided to pop up and install some automatic updates I put it off by a few hours so I could finish up my work and go to sleep When I next tried to use the computer I realized that somehow Windows Vista could not start Once it got past the initial screen where I could access BIOS and everything the computer would just automatically restart So I pulled out my installation disk popped it into the drive and did a repair on my computer It supposedly worked and I tried to access Vista again Now here s the problem that I m currently having The keyboard works fine while the computer is booting up In other words I can access BIOS and all that However once the computer reaches the Vista logon screen the keyboard and mouse don t receive any power from the computer at all I can t turn on Work and Keyboard Doesn't Mouse NumLock or anything like that Therefore I can t access my computer at all to try and repair it I tried a System Restore to right before it updated Keyboard and Mouse Doesn't Work or at least that s what I think the date stamp pointed to but the problem persists I use a USB Keyboard and Mouse and my computer does not have PS keyboard or mouse ports Keyboard and Mouse Doesn't Work I m running Windows Vista bit and my computer and hardware inside is maybe a year old at most so I doubt any hardware has failed So basically I m asking Is there any way to fix my computer Or will I have to get a Linux Live CD back up my files and do a clean install of Windows If you need anymore information please ask and thank you for helping Edit Any New Information -Safe mode does not work as the keyboard and mouse don t respond so I can t get past the log in screen -It is likely not a problem with my mouse and keyboard as they work with a Linux Live CD and in BIOS -Newest observation While loading up the drivers for Windows Safe Mode I noticed that crcdisk sys takes longer to load up than any other driver COuld this be contributing to the problem or is this normal nbsp

A:Keyboard/Mouse doesn't work outside of Bios

Have you tried both the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports for the keyboard and mouse? Maybe the USB 3.0 isn't working correctly due to drivers or compatibility with the Razer gear or drivers. Or can you borrow a basic USB keyboard and mouse?

I also see a BIOS update on the Asus website that addresses "USB Compatibility" and "System Stability" in another. If you do not already have the 1603 BIOS update you may wish to update it that one. You can update the BIOS through the BIOS itself, go into the Advanced section and use EZ Flash and load it from a USB stick; it must be extracted first though.

Hi all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and while recently doing some computer maintenance to get rid of some malware, I most likely screwed up my computer. At the Windows 7 user login screen, my mouse and keyboard are non-responsive. I don't think this is a problem with the actual hardware because I can access the boot menu with F12 when I boot it up. Appreciate any help.

My boss bought a new HP tower after our old one ran out of space. I plugged it in and everything worked until I realised the scanner didn't work. I downloaded a driver but it still didnt activate the scanner. So I looked at the driver repair discs that came with the tower. I installed that thinking it would repair the scanner driver and when I logged back in, the keyboard or mouse USB didnt work. I hope I didn't screw up anything. The keyboard works in BIOS. My boss doesn't know and I would like to get this repaired without bringing anyone in. HELP! Im on Windows 7.

I have a fairly new laptop (Lenovo) and for some reason, sometimes when I turn on my computer after it was hibernating or sleeping, the mouse (touchpad) doesn't work until I put it to sleep and turn it on again. This sometimes happens with the keyboard too, but not as often. I'm not quite sure even how to start checking what the problem is.

Any help is appreciated.

I have a Gateway PC or so years old running Windows XP Media Edition A few and at all mouse doesn't limited mode, Keyboard function has in safe work days ago soon after having installed some Windows updates my wireless Microsoft mouse and keyboard stopped working I plugged in a spare PS mouse and in the bluetooth dialog box removed added and reconnected both components The wireless mouse and keyboard worked Keyboard has limited function in safe mode, and mouse doesn't work at all but not for long I then uninstalled and attempted to reinstall the mouse and keyboard software except that the software apparently had not uninstalled This did not fix the problem From here on I tried so many things I do not recall in what order I did a system restore via Advanced System Care then tried again using a much earlier date After a very long wait I was informed that my system could not be restored to that date I ran Reimage which reported a moderately severe stability problem with numerous crashes This program fixed and replaced files etc but got stuck while attempting to reinstall Windows updates during repairs Reimage removes Windows updates and reinstalls them afterward but for some reason this last step has never worked with my computer and I ve had to reinstall the updates manually The computer was frozen and I was forced to turn it off using the power button When I turned the computer back on I had no working keyboard or mouse and again had to use the power button to turn off the computer I plugged in a PS keyboard and started the computer in bios resetting bios to default settings No change At some point in safe mode I opted to restore to the last known good configuration Restarted and ran a full scan with Avast which found several problems and asked to continue upon restart The continued scan came up with one medium-level threat quot c Documents and settings All users Application Data D - F B- C - DA -A CBD E DE setup res gt hstart exe is infected by win HiddenStart PUP quot Without a mouse I was not able to tell Avast what to do with it I Googled the result and found that the file is a Family Treemaker file I located the file saw that it contained nothing and deleted it Next I ran scans with Malwarebytes which found nothing and Advanced System Care which fixed a lot especially in the registry In the meantime the only way I was able to use the mouse was to restart the computer in safe mode opt to do a system restore and choose the first restore point of the day This temporary fix is no longer available to me because I can t get back to that day s restore points In terms of the keyboard only the arrows Start Menu button and sometimes Escape button worked and only in bios or safe mode

This is the strangest thing I've seen in the past years of using computers I have an Acer Aspire - laptop that came with windows but I'm very picky and I wanted Windows xp back so I went onto Acer's website and won't mouse USB slot USB first other in works any slot, in only work but USB downloaded all of the windows xp drivers and then formatted the laptop to Windows XP with intergrated Service Pack The computer works just fine except for one very strange oddity - the USB mouse I'm using only works when plugged into the first USB slot it will refuse to work in the other USB slots I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer USB which is my favorite mouse and I USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot have of them at home When I was formatting the laptop USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot I had the mouse plugged into the first USB slot and now that is the ONLY slot it will work in If I plug it into the other usb slots the red laser will come on which means it's getting power but it will not move the cursor and clicking either of the mouse buttons won't do anything When I have the Device Manager open and I plug the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer mouse into the first USB slot the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will appear in BOTH the 'Human Interface Devices' tab and also the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab However when plugging the mouse into the other usb slots the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will only appear in the 'Human Interface Devices' but NOT the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab I could just go about my business using the first usb slot for the mouse but this little strange problem is pissing me off hugely as I might want to switch the mouse to another USB slot based on how I have the laptop positioned on a desk or other surface I should also note that the 'Human Interface Devices' tab has a 'HID compliant device' entry in it that isn't present on my desktop computer and my mouse works on any of the usb slots on my desktop computer I wonder if this is the problem I tried disabling this entry but it doesn't help any A final point to note is that I have many other usb devices such as flash memory sticks camera card readers external harddrives gps devices and they all work perfectly fine no matter which usb slot they are plugged into Very strange indeed Is there anyway to make my mouse work in any of the other USB slots

Hi NukesGoBoom,

I have seen a similar problem, but it was all USB ports that weren't working.

First, check the BIOS to make sure all USB ports are enabled, which they probably are.

Are all drivers installed and up to date? Do any yellow question marks or exclamation points show up in Device Manager?

I use my keyboard in a USB slot, and my mouse in the basic PS2 slot.

Now I was just checking something on my GFX card at the back so I had to unplug everything from the PC. After I was done I plugged it all back in but for some reason my mouse wont work now. I tryed taking the PS2 connector off and using it in a USB (which I have none left so I cant do permanently) and it works fine.

I checked the mouse ps2 connector bit and it seems all the pins are fine in it.

Also when I plug it in, I hear the beep noise (the one you hear even without the speakers attached) so something must be happening.

But still no luck on the mouse working.

Can someone please help me.

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

A:My Keyboard doesn't work, and the computer turns on but doesn't start.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

You have told us absolutely nothing about your system so all I can answer with is do XP Repair:
If you do not have a Windows XP cd, then you will need to buy one. Or use system restore disk to wipe out drive and return to clean and new as once was....those are the only options for what you have told us or if you have a ps2 mouse try a usb mouse, but I still think your system must be totally corrupted and need the XP repair bare minimum.

So I finished a virus scan and had to restart my PC after that. Right when it gets to the desktop I noticed my mouse and keyboard won't respond. I tried both port and USB devices and both failed. So I headed to safe mode and notices that the keyboard responded when selecting type of safe mode to boot (networking, command prompt, etc...) and once I started up safe mode, it stopped responding.

I was suggested this is a BIOS problem, which I had not updated from the first day I bought this PC (about 5-6 years). Yet I can't update BIOS when I can't even use my PC. No I don't have any recovery discs.

What should I do?

A:Keyboard and mouse doesn't respond

I don't think it's a BIOS problem. The basic keyboard driver from the BIOS is enabling the keyboard to function before Windows starts, such as when you are selecting the Windows mode. Once Windows starts whether in safe mode or normal mode, it is Windows' drivers that take over. Since that's when you seem to have the trouble with the keyboard, the problem is in Windows, IMHO.

Try System Restore and see if that brings back keyboard and mouse functionality. Remember that you can always undo the restore if you don't like the results. If that doesn't work, post back.

I'm taking a wild guess on this, but I think the receptacle is damaged. By plugging in the additional mouse you probably damaged the pins in the mouse also, hence they don't always work in another computer. If this is the case, you're also going to damage the receptacle in the other computer. The symbol on the plug tells you which way to line up the pins. Forcing when not in the correct direction results in problems.

When I leave my computer on for a bit and walk away, the screen will turn off by itself (this is not standby!!!) and sometimes, the keyboard or mouse seems to have lost its connection to the computer, and will not respond to anything, I have to hit the reset button.

My computer starts but it won't recognise my monitor or keyboard or mouse.

I switched out the power supply and that's not the problem. [I know that i have about 7 fans in my computer. (I didn't make it like that, a friend of mine did)]

I keep getting this really LOUD BEEPING noise, as though it's stuck on reset.

I haven't switched out the harddrive or motherboard yet.

Also before all this started, my CD-ROM wasn't wanting to work. It would let me listen to music and insert a CD to play a video game but it wouldn't write anything or let me install anything or watch movies. (But it used to do ALL those things)

I can't do any system restores because my system restore was turned off!

A:Computer doesn't recognise monitor, keyboard or mouse

Are you getting a constant continuous beeping sound? Are they always long or are they long and short?

If they're always long, then I suspect your RAM has come loose or failed. Try reseating the RAM.

Hi, Check the following. Open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'.  From the new layout, select the 'Ease of Access Centre'. Select the option 'Make the keyboard easier to use'. If there is a tick next to 'Turn on Filter Keys' or 'Turn on Sticky Keys', click the box to remove it, then click Apply and Ok to save this change. Regards, DP-K

Hey Guys!! This is my first post, so we'll see how it goes.
So, here's the problem: I used the registry backup program on my computer to reverse some changes I had made to my system. Now, the keyboard doesn't work. It works when Windows boots (when Windows says "Press F8 for advanced startup options) but it doesn't work after that. Because of this, I can't login to Windows. Does anybody know what the problem is? By the way, my computer is a Compaq Armada E500 running Windows 2000 Professional.

After a power outage my brothers keyboard quit working. He has a desk top computer only one year old. He uses XP. We have rebooted several times. When booting up before Windows opens DOS says it can not find the keyboard.

We made sure the keyboard is plugged in properly (It is not USB connected). We tried another working keyboard, which also didn't work. In Windows we tried adding new hardware. The keyboard is not showing up in the hardware list.

Everything worked fine until the power outage. The computer was in the sleep mode at the time. The mouse continues to work fine and everything else works like it should.

Thank you!

I already have the issue that when I put my E to sleep and wake it up again that the keyboard and touchpad do not work So I have disable the sleep options in the BIOS Now I run into different issues Yesterday I booted the laptop and it hang on the DELL logo After a while it stated that - External to - resons E5570 do display/keyboard/mouse work display, Black Latitude no keyboard/touchpad my EFI file would not be correct Force reboot and it booted straight to Windows What s more annoying is the fact Latitude E5570 - Black display, no resons to keyboard/touchpad - External display/keyboard/mouse do work that the laptop boot the DELL logo is shown and then the screens go s black as if it s not connected SO it looks like it hangs BUT an external monitor through HDMI does work and show the windows logon The keyboard and touchpad also do not work External mouse and keyboard do work So pretty much I got a brick when I do not have external display keyboard and mouse available When I reboot the laptop it works fine again Am I the only one with this Loads of issues with the laptop and wondering if I just have a faulty laptop Clean Windows Pro install is done times Used the nbsp DELL Command Update to install all drivers and patches Issues keep existing

A:Latitude E5570 - Black display, no resons to keyboard/touchpad - External display/keyboard/mouse do work

I have been spending a lot of hours in troubleshooting this week.
Diagnostics are 100% ok.
Reinstalled Windows 10 about 15 times.Installing drivers by hands, installing drives trhough the dell update management application. The issues keeps existing.
To sum the them up:- Cold boot (laptop is off) to Windows. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and they work again)- Resume from sleep. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and the work again)
After I got the laptop I installed 32Gb of RAM and an 512Gb Samsung 950Pro PCIE M.2 NVME drive. The drive should be support as Dell states on the product page and in the manual that PCIE with NVME is supported.
"Advanced features, like industry-leading M.2 SATA and M.2 PCIe/NVME solid state drives, provide data transfer speeds up to 4x faster over traditional hard drivers. "
In order to get the drive visible and running on PCIe I had to disable the sata controller in the BIOS.This way the drive is detected in Windows as an PCIe NVME capable drive.
Just to verify if the issues I went back to default with the delivered 256Gb M.2 sata drive and 8Gb RAM.To install Windows I had to turn the Sata controller back on.
Installed the drivers manually updated WIndows and tested. The issues do NOT occur.
Retested by installing the drivers using the Dell Update Application. The issues do NOT occur.
So I figured out that the SATA controller somehow is the guilty part for all the issues.I mean when enabled to ACHI or RAID the sleep and non working keyboard/touchpad issues do not occur.
When disable the issues DO occur.

So DELL can you please tell me how I can fix this as you state PCIe NVME drives are supported??

Try downloading latest mouse drivers.
Check in power management in BIOS. Look for "wake up by mouse" or something like that.
Check batteries in mouse.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to these forums and I'm really hoping someone can help me, as this is an incredibly irritating problem.
I have a dell/logitech optical USB mouse that randomly stops working. The problem is not the mouse; it works fine on other computers. Every few seconds while using this mouse, the computer makes the sounds as if the cord has been unplugged and plugged back in, when it actually hasn't moved.
Sometimes, a dialogue box pops up that says the USB device is not recognized, but it goes away when the mouse begins to work for another few seconds.
Any ideas? Please help. This is driving me crazy.

I would try different USB ports. Also, if you have other USB devices, you can try those in the ports. You could also try a USB to PS/2 converter.

A:[SOLVED] Mouse Doesn't work

Hi H, Lets see if we can make that ol mouse working again. Answer a couple questions for me if you will. Do you have access to another computer in the house? Im thinking that it would be good if you could plug the mouse into another computer to make sure its not just a defective mouse. Do you happen to have the disk that came with any of the mice youve tried? If not can you tell me the make and model of the mouse so I can find you the drivers for it? Have you tried plugging the USB mouse into another USB port and rebooting? Perhaps its the USB port itself causing the problem. When was the last time the mouse worked correctly? Have you installed any new programs since then?
Try to answer these questions, and Ill check back in awhile to see your response.

Other Bluetooth devices show up when I search for them, but the mouse doesn't. I tried that in XP SP3 too (desktop PC) but it doesnt show up there either.

I am running a desktop PC with Windows XP SP3. I recently decided to upgrade Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 to the 2012 version. Kaspersky recommend removing any previous versions first. I used the Kaspersky Uninstall Tool to remove the 2011 version. After about 15 minutes the tool seemed to stall so I killed the process using the Task Manager. When I rebooted the mouse wouldn't work. I have tried booting in Safe Mode but the mouse won't work there either.

I can boot the PC from an Ultimate boot CD and the mouse works ok. At the moment I am running a Kaspersky Rescue disk and running a complete scan.

Can anyone offer any advice?

if you happen to have another mouse around, you could try that.
another thing you could try is to uninstall and reinstall the mouse drivers.

If no luck then,

if USB:
try another USB socket

if PS/2:
examine the pins in the socket, any bent?

if wireless:
it's possible that the mouse may behave oddly when battery power weakens. try replacing them.

I have a USB keyboard that used to work fine, now it has problems.

Plugged in, normal keys don't work. So like letter keys etc don't work. The only keys that do work are the special keys for the keyboard (like F-lock, My Home, etc).

Any idea how to fix this? Using Windows XP SP2. I've tried restarting.

Hi there,
I have an acer aspire V11 touch laptop and about 2 weeks ago the keyboard stopped working properly. Whenever I try typing anything there is no output apart from when I try stroking multiple keys really quickly. However this results in a keyboard spasm and will continuously type out the same letter over and over again. The only way I can stop that is by holding down the esc key or the spacebar, and as soon as I let that go it continues!

I have tried pretty much everything in the control panel and settings, including trying to uninstall and reinstall it, as well as checking it wasn't anything to do with filter or sticky keys

Any help would be much appreciated, as using the touch screen keyboard takes so long to type everything!

A:Keyboard - either doesn't work or spasms

I don't think this is a Windows 10 problem; sound like hardware.

About 2 months ago, my keyboard quit working in WORD. I have no problems typing this post, for example, or cutting and pasting text I am forced to enter into WordPad in order to get it into WORD. I deleted the keyboard file in settings/system/hardware/device manager/keyboards and rebooted. No help at all. My wife's friend installed a Chinese character set that is always there, but I used tb be able to just change to a western font and work on. That doen't even work anymore. In WORD, nothing goes onto the screen when I type. Do I need to run combofix to get rid of a virus? Pleae help.

A:Keyboard Doesn't Work in Word

Do I need to run combofix to get rid of a virus?Absolutely not. There is no indication of an infection at this point, and even if there were one doesn't perform major surgery and chemo if something much less drastic will work.Have you tried repairing the Word installation? This article discusses how you can do that. Scroll down to this heading: "How to Repair or Reinstall Office Programs" about halfway down the page.Orange Blossom

Hey all,

I just bought a Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard today. I plugged it into a USB port and installed the drivers, and the keyboard doesn't work. The LED lights don't light up, nor do any of the keys work. I tried plugging it into a different USB port and reinstalling the drivers, and it still doesn't work. I've also tried connecting the keyboard to another computer and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

A:G15 gaming keyboard doesn't work

Have you previously had a USB (as opposed to PS2) keyboard connected to the system ?
If not, then you may have to enable the function in the motherboards BIOS.
If you have then it sounds like a fault with the keyboard. The G15 does not require the drivers and utilities (Key profiler and LCD manager) for basic functionality. If you have USB keyboard support enabled then the keyboard backlighting and LCD screen ( "Logitech" for rev.1 blue backlit, "G15" for rev.2 orange backlit) will initialize as soon as the OS loads.

Hi all
I have just noticed that my keyboard doesn't work on certain screens. Specifically the system restore screen where I have to label the restore point. I cant type anything in. I don't get the blinking cursor in the input box. I get the italic I cursor when I put the arrow cursor in the box but when I left click to anchor the cursor and start typing nothing happens. So maybe a mouse problem too. I noticed it in a software registration window too. Running windows xp sp3. microsoft usb keyboard and a wireless logitech mouse
Thanks for any help

You have a laptop, has it been disassembled at any time? If yes, do it again and check that the cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard is plugged in and the retainer is fully seated.

Does an external USB keyboard work?

The right half of my keyboard (L, O, 9, f9, and all other keys to the right) don't work. The only exceptions to this problem are the ']' key. Also, the only keys that don't work on the num-pad are 0456 and delete. The problem surfaced after I took my laptop apart to clean the fan, but once i reassembled the laptop, those keys didn't work. I know I must have put something back wrong, but I don't know how to fix the problem. I use a HP Pavilion 17-e017dx and am currently typing with an external keyboard.any help would be greatly appreciated.

The old keyboard is from an old Dell XPS from 15 years ago.
It worked fine on my last computer a Dell GX620 with XP.
My new computer a locally made one in an HP case has windows 7.
Old keyboard isn't even recognized.
Is it now obsolete or something.

Microsoft seems devoted to making hardware as well as operating systems routinely obsolete. IMHO.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5558 laptop two days ago. I turned on this laptop and the keyboard doesn't work. I have used the screen keyboard to finish the configuration (date, time, name and more), thinking that the problem was in the configuration, but not.
What's the problem? How Can I solved it?
Thanks. ;)

But CTRL + C to copy to clipboard doesn't work. (Copying using mouse works though).

DO both left and right CTRL + C not work? Maybe a keyboard issue, or a keyboard driver.

I'm not sure which category this should be under so I just picked one. We have a Dell Dimension 3000 that is used as a backup computer. However, just recently it's not recognizing any keyboard or mouse plugged into the usb ports. We've tried each port but to no avail. What would cause this? Is this something that I would have to have it serviced? For financial reasons, I'm hoping not. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to SevenForums!

-Did you tried unplug the devices, stop the computer and re-plug everything and restart the computer?
-Check the battery of each connected devices
-Does the light on the connected key still blinking?
-Run a full scan for malwares & virus
-Test on another computer if does works
-Then, if not go to the retailler ask and test the wireless/bluetooth key for an exchange.

I was using my laptop and then put it to sleep. A while later, I opened the lid and my keyboard & built-in mouse aren't working. I restarted it to no avail. Device Manager says, "This device cannot start. (code 10)" when I click on the mouse in the device list, but it says the keyboard is working. I re-installed the mouse driver, also to no avail. Not even system restore (to a restore point made two days ago) worked. Kaspersky found nothing.

I have HijackThis and DSS logs, if that means anything. I'm running Vista Business on an HP Pavilion dv2500 Entertainment PC.

Afterwards my keyboard and mouse don't work. it says: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. What you have now has a technical term for it. It's known as "A Mess"
Not your fault, really: You didn't know what to do and so you did what you thought was the right thing.

What you should have done is run anti-mallware software (Sybot S&D TX, Spyblaster, AdAware SE) or a specific iMesh removal tool. (if there is one).
(I have no idea what iMesh is, but I'm assuming its yet another peice of malware/spyware/adware junk)

But, it's too late for that. Now you've got a mess in your system registry and more than likely you also have an infected (maliciously modified) kernel.

What to do? Well, I hope you backed up your files before you did whatever it was you did, becaue everything on your os-resident drive (that is, the drive where Windows is residing) has got to be wiped out. Usualy, that's the C: drive. If there's a secondary drive (that is, a second physical hard drive, not just a second partition on the main phisical drive) it may be safe to retain that drive and you may not have to wipe it out as well.

You're goning to have to get the Hard Drive Mfgs. drive management utility. Get the version that makes you a bootable floppy, and then boot from that floppy. That will allow you to zero-sum-fill the drive (that is, write zeros to every cluster in every sector of that drive, including the Master Boot Sector.) This is more secure than simply re-formating the drive becasue it leaves no trace of any information from before the zero-sum-fill, ensuring a "virgin" drive for you to work with.
Next step: install Windows XP again. If your hardware is in good working order, this shouldn't be a problem. (asuming yiou have a valid copy of XP and still have the CD Key). If you have an WinXP SP2 Slipstream CD, youse that. Otherwise, use either Windows Update, Automatic Updates, or a SP2 install CD to take the machine to Service Pack 2. Then, get the post-sp2 updates, re-install your office software, patch the office software, stop using IE and switch to Firefox, and get whatever other software you want on your new install of XP.

And then don't take chances with untrustworthy software again, so ka?

hey guys, i just inserted an older pci e graphics card compatible with an old system im rebuilding, it recognises it fine and works, however when my pc logs on after boot my keyboard and mouse (USB) don't work at all, not recognised it seems, at first i thought it was power, or the lack of it, so i replaced the stock 300watt with an OCZ 750watt psu and tried again, still the same, any idea why my usb devices arent active?
