Printing from local network

Q: Printing from local network

Hi-

I am hoping someone has run across this and can offer some advice
My printing worked fine up till a few weeks ago.
I have removed and unintalled the printers, drivers and packages.
Rebooted my laptop
Went to vendor website and downloaded latest drivers
Installed printer first as local LPT1 with the latest drivers from previous step
added port, a TCP/IP port and provided the static IP address reserved for this printer.

When I try to print a test page it sends to printer and after about a minute the print queue
will show "error printing" and that is it.

Print spooler is set to automatic and started
no other jobs are in print queue at time I send the test page

Thanks in advance for any help, tom

Preferred Solution: Printing from local network

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I connect to work through a Cisco VPN. My home office has a broadband router with two computers and a network printer. I can print from either computer as long as I am not connected to the VPN. However, I would like to be able to print when I am connected to the VPN.

I have enabled Local Lan Access on my VPN settings, but once connected the Properties window says that Local LAN access is disabled.

Any suggestions as to how to configure my system so I can print on my network printer while remaining connected to the VPN?

Thanks!

A:Local network printing with a VPN

Are you using a VPN client to connect to the system? That would complicate matters, a lot.

I'm using a VPN here, with a Cisco router. However, to "log on" to the VPN I just use the Windows logon system with my username/password. I just had to add my network printer (HP LaserJet 6 on a DLink server) to the system as a local administrator, and it was available and working under the VPN account.

I have a network printer and two pc's connected to my router. One of those two pc's is my work notebook that connects to our corporate network via vpn. Is there a way I can print to my home network printer while on vpn on my notebook? I'm learning that the vpn creates a direct connection and it's just passed through the router, so the only way I can print is if I connect that printer directly to the notebook via usb. Is that correct or does anyone know how to keep my printer on my home network but still print while on vpn?

Thanks!

Hi there I am new to this forum though I have went through a couple of threads regarding VPN but I can t seem to find my answer through printing VPN Local I work in an IT department and have to users which are not on the business domain To make use of a program hosted on our server they connect via VPN to out network and then join a remote desktop Both of them make use of a network printer Now one of them has a PC with Win and the other one with XP When they connect to the VPN though only the user on the Win PC is allowed to print the other user Local printing through VPN s job only goes into the print queue and he has to disconnect from the VPN and then it prints Both user Local printing through VPN s VPN permissions are the same as I asked the network admin and the printer settings should be the same on both PCs as I checked them Help would be greatly appreciated as I have been working on this for a very long time with no avail Thanks nbsp

A:Local printing through VPN

the other user's job only goes into the print queue and he has to disconnect from the VPN and then it prints.Click to expand...

Wow, is that strange or what (but that's why your here too I guess). The fact that it is queued says the data path from the user->system->print queue is just fine - - and that says permissions are ok. I suspect that the users program is not closing the output file. Have the user try a simple test using NOTEPAD printing to the remote printer.

Next I would look for software updates to the XP VPN software and then to XP print driver for that device.

My Accountant is currently having problems printing. She is accessing our accounting software on our Win 2003 Server Machine. She needs to print to her local printer while accessing our server from her XP machine using Remote Desktop.

She has a local printer connect via USB.

We have installed her printer driver on our 2003 server.

I did the regedit Dword FFFFFFFF trick to redirect the printers, but we still cannot get a printout locally.
Any ideas, or resources we should try? Any help would be appreciated.

I am desperate!! I am working from home via remote desktop, and need to print my reports on the local printer here. However, all 3 of my printers have usb connections, and the remote desktop link does not recognize them. Any time I print it goes to the default printer for the server in my office 10 miles away! 2 of the printers are all-in-one printers and one is printer only....I can however, print w/an old parallel port printer, but the quality is poor. What am I missing? How can a SAP or SAP pro supported program like remote desktop only have the capability to use an ancient printer?

One of the Windows components in Windows 7 is the Internet Printing Client. Maybe it was there in Vista or earlier, but if so I never noticed it. I've discovered in the past the Microsoft (and other companies) often use 'Internet' as synonymous with TCP/IP. Is that the case here?

I never print across the Internet-but I do have several printers on my local network that use TCP/IP. And I know it's easy enough to remove this client & see if I can still print to my printers-but it doesn't seem like I should have to figure things out by trial & error.

Do you know whether or not this 'Internet Printing Client' is needed to be able to print to any TCP/IP printer, whether it's actually on the Internet or not? Thanks.

Hello all and thank you for reading my post. I have a user at home who access' our terminal server and wants to print to her home printer. I was able to find the drivers, add it as a local printer, and assign it the correct TS Port. This works great until she logs off the TS and back on. When this happens, the TS Port for her printer changes. I do not want to give her admin rights so that she can go in and change the port everytime, and this would also be an inconvinience to the user. So I'm hoping there is a way to set the printer TS Port to static, so it remains the same everytime. Or any other workarounds would be helpful!

Thanks,

I have several Windows 7 and Windows XP users using RDC to log in to a Windows Server 2008 machine. Their local printer is a network attached Dell 3110cn. I had to manually install a driver for the 3110 on the Windows Server box.

I have to choose from a tsxx port from the list of ports to get the remote printing working. However, every time a user logs out and logs back in, the mapping of the ts port changes and disables printing. I really need this to not happen. Does anyone know of a solution?

A:Problem with RDC clients printing to local printer

Two simple fixes: 1) Setup a Print server add all the printers to the print server, and remove all the direct network printing from the workstations. 2) Add all the printers to the Terminal Server, , and remove all the direct network printing from the workstations. -WS

A:Verizon Air Card and local wireless printing

The tech support person may have been correct about Verizon not allowing another network connection, but I wouldn't believe it without farther testing.

When Windows has multiple Default Gateways from which to choose it seems to choose wired over wireless but otherwise I have not detected a pattern--it seems random to me. Try using a static IP configuration for your LAN, leaving the Gateway and DNS servers blank.

I'm dumbfounded...

My client computer is a Win 98 SE system with an Epson C40UX USB printer. The server is a Windows 2000 Server with SP2 installed. I have a connection established between the client and the server using Terminal Services. The Win98 machine is successfully communicating with the Windows server. But, I am unable to print a document to the Epson printer while inside Terminal Server. I am beginning to think it has something to do with the USB connection. Is there a way to fix this? A:Windows 7 Printing sends a Local Downlevel Document and will NOT Print

That is because the printer driver installation does not start because of the error. By default high privilege will be needed when you install driver. The clients may need to install the Windows 7 compatible driver on their client computers. Printer driver installation program will prompt that if you would like to install a local printer or a network shard printer. Then select the correct option and finish the installation.
If the driver installation program does not help in this, follow the steps below to add a shard printer.
1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.2. Click Add a Printer. 3. Select "Add a local printer". 4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port.5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format.
\\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer]
Then click Next.
6. Follow the instruction to finish the installation. During installing, choose the correct driver in the driver list.
Also you can try to add the Windows 7 compatible printer driver to the printer server. You need to install the Windows 7 compatible driver in one of the Windows 7 client, then follow the steps below.
1. Install the driver on one of the Windows 7 clients.2. Launch mmc from Start Search box.3. Click File->Add/Remove Snap-in.4. Add "Print Management". Point to the server in "Specify the printer server". 5. Expand "Printer Management"->"Printer Servers"->"Drivers". 6. Right-click, then click "Add a driver".7. follow the instructions to add the Windows 7 printer driver.
After doing so the driver should be added into the server.
If the driver is packed, you can directly extract the driver pack and add the driver from Printer Management in the printer server.
If the printer driver is not found, the driver should be not designed for enterprise environment. In this case you may need to add the printer from the client side manually.

This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.

Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.

The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.

A:Will adding a 2nd network card improve local network transfer speed

That won't really help the way you are describing the problem, although adding access points will help with streaming to wireless devices.

Although there is a setting in Group Policy that allows you to use two connections at the same time, I don't believe it will help in this situation.

I've done many HD movie streaming tests on my system.

I can stream from my media PC to at least 7 other machines at the same time, 4 wired, 3 wireless, plus my TV, and have no problems at all, no skipping, no freezing, even with the same movie in the same place or with 8 different movies at once, my TV is connected to my media center PC so counts as the 8th one.

This is Gb LAN, and 300Mbps wireless but even the 65Mbps limited laptop has no problem.

I'm not really sure why you are seeing these limitations but it may be the router.

HI,

I have installed server 2003 on a small network and created a domain that is the same as the public domain name (ie the companies website).

This is now causing a problem because when i type in the public address (for example www.company.com) it is trying to resolve it locally - because the local domain name is also company.com.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get round this problem?

Many thanks in advance

A:problem with the local network having the same domain name as the public network

add 'local.' to the internal domain or change it altogether.

Your public domain should not have any connection into your private infrastructure,
but you may have references from private->public; not very common.

First of all, THANKS for looking! Here's my quandry:

My wireless router is in the living room. My printer (which is networkable but not wireless) is in the study. How can I print from a laptop that is on the network wirelessly to that printer? (without walking the laptop over to the printer and using the USB cable)

I was thinking of adding another wireless router over by the printer and plugging the network cable into the router and printer. The router would not have any other network connection (wired) and set the router as an access point only.

Would that work? Probably not but figured it was worth a shot!

Thanks again for your help.

I am in an office building with 40 or so tenants. The entire building is wired to one central network (let's call it main network) controlled by SonicWall where each office has one live network drop. The main network is set up in such a way that tenants can plug in their own switches and routers if they want more network connected devices in their office. The office building has a network printer connected to main network where tenants can print to it. However, when tenants have their own routers in their office you cannot really connect to the network printer that is connected to main network. Is there something I can port, bridge or set-up where they can print to it?

A:Printing to network printer on another network

I think that as long as the tenant's router is connected to the main network they should still be able to access that printer provided that the WAN IP address of their routers is within the IP range of the main network where the Network printer is attached.

You'll have to do something called "split-tunneling" to access both the internet and LAN.
I don't know what operating system you have, and the steps to do this are different depending on the OS, so here are a few links to help you figure it out (I honestly have next to no experience in this area):

the problem with not updating vista is it leaves your operating system wide open to attack , thats exactly how conficker spread. An unpatched OS can make your firwall and AV next to useless

why dont you set your updates so they are not automatic , then pick the updates to install , install them one at a time run your pc for a while each time until you find the offending update

The fastest way -- FTPDMIN: Minimal ad-hoc file transfer Windows FTP server Windows 7 will alert you that it's listening on the FTP ports but that's what you want right? Make note of the IP address it's listening on and make sure that's the address on your local network you want.

Then just use your favorite FTP client in Ubuntu...

Which is it, local network or one network to another and if the latter, is it via the Internet or still local?

Remote on a local network is a snap. After assigning a static local I.P. to all server machines if you haven't already (not needed if you use machine name instead), share the folders you want to serve and just open them across the network.

I have just up dated four of our computers to windows 10 and set up a wifi network between the 4 computers without too many problems.
However I have a problem with a local connection from my main pc (windows 10) to a pc which runs in parallel (pc on windows xp) they are linked by ethernet cable. When I boot the machines in the morning windows 10 displays an icon with the xp pc and all works fine. Later on in the day the xp pc icon has disappeared but working on the xp machine it is still possible to link to the windows 10 machine.
My question is once the icon has disappeared of the windows 10 pc how can I re-establish to link? It appears that the link still exists but I can't access it.

A:local network 10 to xp ethernet

Confusing setup.

When the icon disappears, trying typing the ip of the machine into explorer.

Like this:

Code:
\\192.168.1.178\
or
\\10.0.0.28\
If that don't work, open an admin command prompt and enter this command to see if the other machine shows up

Code:

I have a small network of four desktops and two laptops. One of my laptops, an IBM Think pad X40 cannot access the workgroup. It cannot even see itself, I time out and get an error if I try to view the workgroup.

"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."

All the other PCs function fine. This has really got my stumped and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ive tried everything I can think of short of reformatting. I've reinstalled in hardware drivers, I've reinstalled all the client-service-protocol stuff in network connections, I've enabled and disabled firewalls, set it as the DMZ host on the router. Ive used both wired and wireless connections. I've gone through the wireless setup wizard probably 15 times now. I am totally baffled as to what is causing this.

If I have three computers on local network and only one has internet access will this update all machines on local network?

A:Updates on Local Network

Yeah - this is a great option. It does not entirely stop getting stuff from internet as it is basically a torrent system, but is much faster and much reduces download demand

A torrent system basically extacts bits of a file from multiple sources, so each serving pc does not have to upload whole file (uploading usually being slower than downloading), and receiving pc glues it all together again. So you might get 5 pcs uploading a fifth each of the file at the same time, and pc can download all five parts simultaneously as download is usually several times faster than upload. It actually works in much smaller increments, but the principle is the same.

I always update my fast pc first, leaving my other slower devices switched off. Then I turn on other devices, and you see the hdd flicking away as it serves the updates to the other devices.

Do not enable last option as it will 'steal' bandwidth from you.

Hi
I got a new laptop because my old one was fried by the weather! But now when I try to connect to the network, I can only access the internet and I want to know how I can get my shared folders, which is on the one network computer (which is the main one) to show on "my network places"

I'm using windows XP

A:Cant connect to local LAN network

You first have to get the computers on the same network (e.g., connected to the same router). Then you need to enable file and printer sharing; here is a wizard way.

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a Windows PC other than XP or 2k Pro or Vista.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2 or SP3) will be properly configured by the wizard. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders (or drives) or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... . When sharing a printer, accept the offer to load other drivers if your other PCs have different Operating System(s).

When you first go into My Network Places there will be nothing there. The first time you click on 'View Workgroup computers' will probably result in great disappointment. It takes awhile (up to 15 minutes) before all the computers in the workgroup get up-to-date and accurate lists of the other computers. Often you can speed up this process via Search for other computers.

When computers show up in My Network Places, double click on one to see its shares. If that includes a printer, you can right click on the printer to connect to it.

Hi, This is urgent

Something happened to my computer after the last virus scan. I was thinking maybe my files got deleted with it

I am not able to connect to the internet trough CABLE. The cable hole on my software shows a green sign (means it is connected?), but there is no sign of connectivity

I tried a different cable network, and I still get the same. No reaction whatsoever from the internet

Only wireless is available, which is ridiculous for a Desktop

I open the network connections and there is nothing, just wireless drivers and wireless availability

I tried to create a network manually but, the computer only allows me to create wireless or such connections

Everything is really slow..i cant even watch a video or play a game. everything gets jammed. tx to the wireless

How to fix this?

A:my local network does not work

I think that, possibly, a quick fix might be a system restore. If the problem was due to the last scan it should work.

Make sure you have the latest firmware for the router. Then reset it to factory defaults and reconfigure it. (Make sure you know the important settings before starting this procedure.)

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

If am trying to share files / printer between to Win 7 computers on the same network. From one of the computers neither the homegroup or the network will work. I can see the other computer in the homegroup but I can't access the files.

With network, it tells me the network provider name is invalid. I will not even allow me to access the network folders on the local machine.

The machine has a single administrator account. I think that there is something wrong with the administrator privileges, but I am not sure what.

I have tried most of the things mention in this forum to right the problem, but nothing works. There was a suggestion to scan the system files for corrupted or broken files. It writes a log file at the end of this process. I couldn't examine the file because there is something wrong with my administrator privileges.

So HELP please.

A:Local Network Issue

Hi there,

If you're sure that the Homegroup in your network is setup correctly try creating a new account as Administrator from the problematic computer and see if you're able to access the shared network resources. Compare the ipconfig/all output of this computer to another working computer. If there's any discrepancies please post both ipconfig/all output in your next post.

Good morning, I connect at home wirelessly with no issues using W7 Ultimate on my Fujitsu laptop. I don't really understand all the different types of network but currently I share with no one, and under the network settings it states 'Home Network' and then 'Ready to Create.'

I was away for work recently at another site and they have an open wi-fi for visitors to use on non-work laptops, so it's passworded but other than that, it's totally unrestricted.

When I tried to connect it found the wi-fi network with full strength but would not identify and connect - the password was okay as I when I tried an incorrect one, it stated just that.

Do I need to do something different with regards to grouping/network etc or could the fault have possibly been with them?

Thanks - Blue

Note: it used to work on XP Pro!

I have a router that issues DHCP addresses in the range 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.119. I use other IP addresses outside this range for devices that need static IPs. I've used 192.168.1.120 and 192.168.1.130. I also have an extra router on the network with with DHCP disabled.

So I set a computer to use 192.168.1.200, and it doesn't connect. Am I missing something?

Hi. I am a student in a major University

As in all major institution we have acces to wireless network.

It is a SSID WEP crypted network with an authentification IEEE 802.1X (EAP PEAP)

I have no problem connecting to Internet.

However as a model student, I want to play with some friends through the network. It seem impossible to see eachother in IPX or UDP. I was wondering how I could manage to see other friends computer (as I would in a home local network). So we could share files throught the network and play some game in network (not having to pass trough the net...)

Thx for the help.

I recently had to re-install Windows XP (SP2) on my Dell 5150 Laptop. I have not been able to get my internet connection to work since the re-install. I have plugged the cable into my network card in the computer and the light that comes on is orange and not green. I know the cable and internet connection work fine because I use that same connection/cable on my desktop computer with no problems. I recently used this same port on my laptop not more than a week ago with no glitches. I have gone to Network Connections in the control panel and there is no Local Area Connection icon being displayed. There is a 1394 Connection and a Wireless Network Connection icon displayed but no LAN connection. I do not have a wireless Network connection so I am unable to use that. So, here is the problem. I have two laptops I am working on. The gentleman who owns the laptops recently got an air port router for his macs. Well, the two HPs that he has, both of their wireless cards stopped connecting to his network. Nor, will the connect to mine. If I connect it through Ethernet, the internet works great. If I connect it through wireless, local only every time.

I need help to resolve this issue. I have tried renewing the ip address. Disabled the IPv6. Uninstalled Norton in case it had a block on it. Disabled firewall temporarily. Uninstalled all Air Port files. I am absolutely boggled on what this guy could have done.

If it means anything, he is running vista on both of them.

I have installed both an HP WiFi Laser Printer and a Lorex Security System connected through ethernet cable recently. During setup for both things I have been given an IP address to access them through a browser, but can't seem to connect. The printer is functioning on the Network, so not really a problem, but I I want to access the Security System from the web. My router shows the mac address of the Security System, so its there, just can't get in.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help!

So frustrating. Okay. I have a pretty basic network. Its 3 computers, 1 wireless 2 wired. all through 1 router. Okay I have an ADSL modem to a Linksys WRT54g, then two computers wired, one on wireless and an XBOX 360 wired too. I cannot ping one wired computer to the other, both computers can ping the router and both can ping loopback (127.0.0.1)

Why cant they ping eachother? I have had this network setup and running before, now i have updated both motherboards in both wired computers and reinstalled windows on both aswell. They used to communicate perfectly and when i went to setup the network they could already ping eachother so i never had a problem. any suggestions?

A:Solved: Need Local Network Help PLEASE

If they are both accessing the internet through the same router an inability to ping is almost always a firewall issue.

Is there a command prompt command to run a file within a network? Such as shutdown -i [localip] etc..

A:Run a file within a local network

One does not "run a file". Open can "open" a file, but that's executing an application and telling it to open that file.

Perhaps if you were more specific about what you mean.

Hey Chris (I'm assuming your name is Chris from the IP settings...),

Let me be the first to welcome you to Vista X64 forums.

It looks like your router/modem does not have DHCP enabled (or it has a MAC Address filter in place.) Do you know how to edit your router's settings? If not, your ISP may need to do it from their side.

I would like to thank you one hundred ten percent for posting this information from the get-go. It makes our lives so much easier when information is posted in this manner.

It looks like when your computer is set to DHCP/Automatic IP, your router is not giving the PC an IP address. If I'm not mistaken, the 169.254... IP addy is an APIPPA address (Automatic Private IP Address). This address is used by Windows when it is looking for an address but the router it's connected to does not want to give it one.

This either means your router has DHCP disabled, or your router has a "filter" on it baring all but a specific set of MAC Addresses/computer names from connecting to it.

The account you logon your machine has to exist on the replaced machine. Same name same password. You also need to have file and print sharing enabled as well as the windows firewall set to allow file and print sharing. Than you will have access without being asked for a password.

log into the router and remove the wireless security - no see if it will connect - if it does - log back into the router and try the wireless security again
------------------------------------------------------------------------
What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

can we see an ipconfig /all
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

Hello,

I'm puzzled as to how "add a local printer" and "add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer" are different.

Under "Add a local printer", I can use an existing port or create a new port, under which I can set a TCP/IP address to connect to shared printer over network. What's the difference between existing port and new port? How is this port local when I can set IP address to printer shared over network?

And how does "add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer" function differently than the former? I'm trying to distinguish the nature between the two so I can get a better understand for troubleshooting purposes. I appreciate any help.

I recently purchased a new HP laptop with built in wireless adapter. While setting up this PC I connected to my wireless network just fine to update the windows operating system, (Vista Home Premium).

A few days later I upgraded my desktop PC which is connected to the router with a cable from XP Media Edition to Windows Vista Home Premium.

Now, when I turn on my new laptop it will only connect to my wireless network "locally" and not connect to the Internet.

Nothing has changed with my router.

What gives? I can't make it work.

Hi everyone,

I have a problem. One of the computers here at work can't log into the network. When I click O:\ Drive it gives me an error saying "Local device in use". This has happend before in the past. The problem was one of the tech guys hooked up a laptop and put a IP address that someone already using, so they put a different IP Address for the laptop. But the computer still could not get into the network drive. Eventually the problem was resolved but I was not here to see it done.

I already checked the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties and everything looks ok.

Does anyone has a resolution for this?

I have been struggling for days to find a solution with an annoying printing problem on my new Windows 7 (64bit) HP Laptop. I can not print from my HP Laptop to any printers on my older XP Desktop wirelessly over my home network. I cannot find a driver manually and have installed a Windows 7 compatible driver for the iP4300 on my Laptop, etc. - no luck.

When I connect the same XP Printer directly to my Laptop by USB cable - it prints find. But, I can't seem to find a solution to my wireless problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

what networking protocol are you using? homegroup? homegroup is for exclusively win 7 networks. If used in meixed networks it can give connectivity problems, slow DLs, and random disconnects. If you are its pretty easy to find out. create a new netwrok using the work group model. If it doesnt solve it you may alse have to install the priter drivers locally on all the pcs before it will work. I sus[pect homegroup

On my home network, we just got a AMD laptop and we are having trouble getting it to print on our HP printer that is connected to the main system, which is a intel chip machine. With other intel laptops in the house there is no problem. I have tried to install amd drivers on the main computer, but it does not work. Any ideas?

Thanks for you time

I received a HP 2175 PSC printer as a Christmas gift.
I installed the print on on my system with no problem, I am running XP home edition. I want to make this a shared printer with my wife laptop running windows 98. On my system I selected it as a shared printer and also selected advanced area were I would like to select additional windows versions drivers.
I receive a message that I need to put in the windows 98 cd. From this point on I receive error messages which states that there is no driver information for my printer. I am confused, I did the same method on my last HP printer.

Thank you

I'd just load the print driver onto the W98 machine and point the port to the shared printer, much easier than screwing around with the print install wizard.

I have a 64 bit OS I am putting together now. I have a W2K3 32 bit server with a print que. Will there be any problem loading the 64 bit driver on my 64 bit OS and then having it link to the 32 bit print que or will this bomb out?

I setup a home network a while ago between two machines running XP. It works fine. My wife got a new laptop with Vista. I was able to add it to the network. Using the router I am able to access the internet, and my shared (XP) folders. I get an error though when I try to share my printer. Any ideas? Like I said the network between the two XP computers is fine. I can print from either, its just the new laqptop that is giving me problems. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok i have looked through the forum and haven't noticed where I could put this..but lets see what is out here.

I have networked my printer for printer sharing. When I print ANYTHING off of the shared port the resulting pages have PAGE x (where x is the number of pages printing at that point) and the computer address that is initiating the printing.

my question is...How do I remove that from the pages being printed? Is it a tweak or reg edit. I looked up Banners but that is a totally diffrent subject and mine is turned off anyways.

I am in an office with two other computers, and we are all sharing my printer. I am the first to go home at night. My question is; is there a way that I can shut my computer off and still allow the other computers to print off my printer??

Thanks!

I have an older Windows XP desktop with a Lexmark printer attached. The printer is not wireless. I have a new Windows 7 laptop which is part of my simple home wireless network. I would like to be able to send print commands from this laptop to the Lexmark printer. What should I do? Thanks!

A:Network Printing

you should be able to share the printer through your XP desktop altho your desktop would have to be on to be able to print.

To share your printer

Open Printers and Faxes. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.

Right-click the printer you want to share, and then click Sharing.

On the Sharing tab, click Share this printer and then type a share name for the shared printer.

If you share the printer with others using different hardware or different operating systems, click Additional Drivers. Click the Environment and operating system for the other computers, and then click OK to install the additional drivers.
