Win7 SP1 Update failed due to CSI Manifest Zero Length

Q: Win7 SP1 Update failed due to CSI Manifest Zero Length

I have failed to update my OS to Windows 7 SP1 several times. After running the Readiness Tool, KB947821 it says one of CSI manifest file has zero length and I don't know what to do to fix it. Please help. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I'm getting errors when trying to do a Windows update to service pack 1 (Windows 7).

I've run CheckSUR, and it seems to be complaining about:

"amd64_microsoft-windows-ieframe_31bf3856ad364e35_8.0.7600.20651_none_dbf7b4b157dae956.manifest"

I've attached a zip file with both the checksur.log and the cbs.log.

I've tried looking in my Windows7 DVD for the file (ie. viewing the "D:\sources\install.wim\2\Windows\winsxs\" archive using 7zip). But that file doesn't exist there.

I'm out of ideas what to try next.

Thank you for any help with this,
Dan

HI all,

Just registered after seeing a similar thread on here to the issue I have.

I have a laptop with 7 Home premium 64 bit SP1 that is up to date with the exception of an IE9 update that refuses to install at all.

Have tried various different methods but to no avail including attempting to remove IE9 and then try a reinstall.

Uninstall hasn't been possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi all,

My ultimate goal is to install the Windows 7 Platform update which right now fails.

SFC /scannow reports corrupt files unable to fix.
WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool, it reports Update error 80073712 as not fixed.
I also run the system upgrade readiness tool.

The logs indicate a problem with the XPS files (which can't be repaired due to missing manifests). Disabling XPS in 'Turn Windows Feature On/Off' has not helped.

I have attached the CBS and CheckSUR logs. Hoping somebody can help - how do I repair files when I don't have the repair files/manifests??

A:Update error 80073712 / missing XPS manifest files

Hi Uwajimaya,

You will need to run these steps to fix the issue:

Close all programs, and then restart your computer.
Insert the Windows DVD into the computer's disk drive. Wait for Setup to start. If Setup doesn't start automatically, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then type Drive:\setup.exe in the search box, where Drive is the letter of your computer's DVD drive (for example, D:\setup.exe).
In the Programs list, click Setup.exe.

Click Install Now.
Click Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation (recommended).
If you're asked for it, type the Windows Product key.
In the Which kind of installation do you want? window, click Upgrade.
When the installation is complete, restart your computer, and then run Windows Update.
Cheers and hope this helps!
Boris

Hello again

I've uploaded a file - ptbaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder ptbaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

A:Many failed update on history windows failed to configure startup

Hello smeraldan and welcome to Seven Forums.

My usual disclaimer: I'm not an expert at anything. Sometimes malware can prevent Windows Updates from installing. Run a full scan with your personal anti-malware suite. Then use the free Malwarebytes to run another full scan. (No anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a thing we'd all be using it.)

Malwarebytes

Another possible problem is if system files became damaged or corrupt. I'd run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You could also try running the System Update Readiness Tool if you haven't already done so.

System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

Try installing the updates again, but this time just do a few at a time (maybe only 5 or so.) Keep track of the KB numbers. Start with the critical updates, then the important, and save the optional for last. If a group of 5 installs OK go on to the next group. If any group fails to install you'll know which group to uninstall. Try installing just one update at a time. If they install OK go on to the next group. Otherwise just ignore the problem update(s) for the time being and continue installing in groups of 5.

I tried to set up my desktop computer running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit to dual boot Windows XP Home. It didn't go as planned and now Windows 7 will not boot. I get the following error message:

"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."

I tried deleting the Windows XP partition and double check the boot order in the BIOS but no luck. I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me out. Thanks.

A:Failed setting up dual boot Win7/XP - cannot boot Win7

Set the Win7 HD first to boot in BIOS setup, after DVD Drive.

Boot the Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk, follow these steps to mark Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it) Active: Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

Next boot into DVD Repair console or Repair CD, accept any offered repair. If none offered or Win7 doesn't start after reboot, access System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair 3 Separate Times
to rewrite the System boot files to Win7 partition or it's System REserved boot partition.

If it fails after 3 times attempting to rewrite to SysReserved partition, change the Active flag to Win7 partition and try repairs again.

I would like to delete the failed updates list in Windows 7 Update.  I have done this in the past but forget exactly the process.

I think you go to Windows Folder-Software Distribution.  After deleting everyhting in the folder., i think you are to restart the computer.  Once finished the list of updates in Windows Update will be cleared.

Please correct if I am wrong.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

A:Failed Updates in Windows Update. Want to clear update list?

This is the way I suggest :

Go to start > type in cmd > right click at cmd.exe > Run as Administrator.

Type in "net stop WuAuServ" without quotes > hit enter.

Type in "start %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore" without quotes > hit enter. A folder will come up. Don't close that black window.

Rename file "DataStore" to "DataStoreold" without quotes.

Go to that black screen, Type in "net Start WuAuServ" without quotes > hit Enter. After it finished you can close it.

Now your Windows Update logs will now cleared.

Thank you.

A:Security Update (KB2709715) - Failed to Update, Code 8020000E

I googled the issue and found that this could mean my system reserved partition is full and indeed that is what I found. My C: drive is a 500 GB SSD but the system partition is only 100 MB of which only 3 MB is free.

MS web page has a long convoluted command line "fix" for this (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086249) but I was wondering why I couldn't just "shrink" the main C: drive partition and then "extend" the system partition using diskmgmt.msc.

Or is there a better way?

A:latest update failed - can't update system reserved partition

Hello Ray Lo,

Yes, potentially you can do this... But I would suggest backup of your SSD, before you try to do anything as such... WRT shrinking and moving partitions! Just in case!

One extra step enforcing security does no hurt, does it?

Hey, I have two questions:

I am running Win7 dualbooted with WinXP, everything works fine. I want to get rid of the XP partition, and keep the Win7 one only, but there is a problem. THe partition on which XP is installed is set as system and active. I've googled around but I've found no easy solutions to this. Any ideas on how to do this without reinstalling the OS?

My second question would be about the Win7 update: I installed the 7100 build, when it got released, but as I saw now, the latest builds are like 7200+. Are the changes updated on my build somehow, or I would have to reinstall to have the new build?

Thx.

To see the changes in the different builds, you'd need to install those builds. Its not really cruicial, but there a few noticable differences once you get to 7232. It just feels more stable.

And to fix your boot problem, PLEASE HAVE SOMEONE CONFIRM THIS BEFORE DOING IT, I'm pretty sure if boot into windows 7 and you open computer, right click the white space and hit properties to open the 'system' page, then in the left panel click on advanced system settings. A new window will come up. make sure the advanced tab is selected, and hit settings under startup and recovery. There will be a new window with a box that says default operating system. On yours it should say xp. Open the box and choose Windows 7 and that SHOULD fix your problem. please have someone confirm this tho, I dont want to be responsible for making your computer unbootable.

Hiya, just a while I ago I tried to install the NVidia driver update in my windows update but it says it failed after trying to install. Was wondering could this corrupt my video card driver or registery or can anything be done to make this error like it never happened before? Currently I'm using a GTX 460 with NVidia driver version 311.06 , many thanks.

Hi,
I have a big problem with my Win7 64bit Servis Pack 1 (and all updates). When I'm trying to open some applications (Skype, AIMP 3 beta) I cant, because there is an error: Failed to load shfolder.dll. I tried to replace this dll in System32, but nothing happened.
There is one more errore message about shfolder.dll. It's first and then is message about Failed to load shfolder.dll. But it is in czech and i cant translate. It's somenting like this: "C: \ Windows \ System32 \ SHFolder.dll not designed to run on Windows or contains an error. Try to install the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendor for assistance." And then is "Failed to load shfolder.dll" message.
What's wrong? It was absolutely ok 3months ago. Thanks for help and excuse my english :)

SMART failure is strictly hdd related.

Sorry, but that's just how it is. You don't get a SMART error from anything else I know of. It's strictly a hard drive measure.

After a full installation a few weeks ago, I forgot to see if updates installed correctly. As you can see from the screenshot, there's a number which haven't installed. Can I fix the problems at once, or even reset and install again?

Many Thanks,

A:Win7 Updates, Invalid & Failed

Assuming you had / have no connection problems, your computer is "clean" / no intrusions etc the failed updates should still be available / offered to you.

Try only a few at a time so see if they are indeed downloaded / installed.
Start with the oldest.

Suggest you leave .NET Framework till later & do these 1 at a time with a reboot at the end.

Just to be sure.. I suggest you download the free version of Malwarebytes.
Update it immediately.
Do a full system scan
Let us know the results at the end.

A:can't boot win7 after failed xp install

XP has to be installed on the machine that will run it. Even if you had succeeded, XP would have booted but 7 would not boot any longer.

XP has probably removed your MBR. Run Startup Repair or Reinstall Windows.

A:Multiple Update Failures / Win7 x64 - Unable to Update, Error 800b010

From the SFC report, it looks like it found a couple of errors in the .NET 3.5 installation - and fixed them (together with a faulty bmp file)
Have you also run a CHKDSK? - often a random error can indicat file system problems, so it would be worth running CHKDSK C: /R and seeing if that helps.

Niemiro hopefully will be around later to assist - but there's nothing in your reports that suggests anything specific he can do.s

i just reinstall my windows 7 home premium last night, and after i click the update button i left it alone and couple of hours later i saw a lot of failed update on windows update history?

these unfinished update will it became a trash on my computer or just simply gone?

how to delete these failed updates?

thx,

A:there's a lot of failed update on windows update history?

You don't delete failed updates - it just means that they didn't install at that attempt (possibly your connection got broken)
Go back to Windows Update again, check for updates again, and install ONLY the Security updates for Windows itself (not .NET, or IE etc.) , then go back and do the rest of the updates for Windows, - then do IE, and lastly do the .NET updates.

Just curious. Is fast boot enabled on the Win 10 install? As I understand things, this should not explain what you are experiencing. It could conceivably cause corruption of the Win 10 partition if XP is booted and the 10 partition is written to in its hibernated state. But it should not cause corruption of the XP partition. In any case, you might try turning it off anyway if enabled.

Okay so I tried to split my main primary partition yesterday so it would make a 4gb partition. Well while it was doing this for some reason splitting the partition failed and now my PC cannot get past the Windows logo screen. It will show the windows 7 logo and before it gets to the login page my PC will restart itself... Now I am going to assume this hs something to do with the boot files since it can show the Windows 7 logo... I am going to try using fixboot with a recovery CD... Other than that any ides on how to fix this without reformatting my drive???

OK, got a new HDD (WD Black..)

Anyway, went to install Win7 Home on it. Partitioned the drive (gave myself a 100 gig partition for OS) but didn't format the partition.

Hit Install... It ended up hangin for almost an hour at 1% and then 3% unpacking files... So I restarted thinking i had to format the partition first (seemed odd it took that long).

Now the drive won't boot on it's own (bootmgr doesn't exist error) and if I start up with my old HDD OR the Win7 disc it can't find the new HDD at all

Is there some way I can make it recognize that HDD?

I hate Windows now, it's official.

A:Failed instal of Win7 left HDD undetectable

Is the HDD detected in BIOS setup? If not try reinstalling it, change cables, test the HDD using maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

If detected try wiping the HD with Diskpart Clean Command from installer Command Line accessed by pressing Shift + F10 at first screen when booted, or System Recovery Options.

Close Command Box, click Install Now, use the Drive Options to create and format one install partition. Ignore the small boot partition created. Click Next.

If install doesn't proceed, try prepartitioning the drive after wiping it again using Step 2.2 from SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation.

If all fails test the HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan. It may be a bad drive.

Hi,
My XPS13 L322x cypress touchpad has completely failed.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling both the software and driver to no avail.
I have replaced the entire touchpad but this did not fix the issue.
Any further suggestions?
Thanks,
Sophia.

My Mom's HP TouchSmart 600-1050 hard drive failed (the systems is out of warranty).  It originially came with Windows 7, loaded by HP.  She upgraded for free to Windows 10 early on this year.  I have purchased a new hard drive.  She doesn't have the Restore Disks.  How do I get the original Windows 7 installed disks/media (I do not see them as a download/order option on HP's support page) reloaded on the system and then get it upgraded to Windows 10 again.  Or is there a way for me to go straight to Windows 10 without having to load Win7 first? Thanks.

Flurbman Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Let's get to your last question first ... Yes, you can simply install Win10 without having to start with Win7.  Once an Updated PC is activated, it is registered on the MS Activation Servers and when you reinstall Win10 later, once you connect to the Internet, it will reactivate. You can download and create Win10 install media from this link:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10 As to restoreing Win7, since HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/Good Luck

Hello newbie to the forum First I'd like to say this is an awesome forum It's nice to see people willing to help others Too many forums out there are just a place for people to attack and belittle each other for no good reason instead of helping them I sure hope I can find the help I'm seeking too You can look at the system hardware involved in my profile if needed It is all brand new hardware But for now here's the nature of the installation problem The installation RAID0 Ultra64 + Win7 = 4TB Failed BIOS is currently set mostly for defaults auto except for where I needed to specify RAID for the respective SATA Win7 Ultra64 + 4TB RAID0 = Failed installation ports connected to the two drives I want to stripe and to boot from CD for Win installation so I adjusted these settings accordingly The motherboard has an onboard AMD FX based RAID controller I have two TB SATA drives configured for RAID using the onboard RAID controller software The RAID controller software reports slightly over TB as logical drive Everything seems fine at this point Next step Boot from the DVD to install Win Ultra This attempt is a clean install full non-upgrade version to be installed onto a TB RAID array using two brand new HDDs During the installation I supply the device drivers as specified by the mobo's owner's manual Windows installation accepts them no problem Suddenly there is a problem Instead of showing the available drivespace as just under TB after the RAID hardware driver is supplied the list will then show two partitions one barely over TB and another one roughly TB It does not show one TB drive after the driver has been provided from the mobo's driver CD If I continue to install on the TB drive anyway the installation routine seems to go through the usual motions But then comes up with an error Something about not being able to prepare the drive for booting and to try to re-run the installation program again It always ends at the same point with the same errror I will post the exact error message after I give it another try I should've written it down already but it's no problem for me to re-create it So If someone posts that Win cannot be installed on a TB partition for whatever reason like it cannot address over TB of drivespace or other reason then I can just forget about using the two drives in a RAID array and use them as single drives Or If there is a known fix or work-around please enlighten me

A:Win7 Ultra64 + 4TB RAID0 = Failed installation

Hello Happy Neighbor, welcome to Seven Forums!

We've been seeing issues with people getting Windows to install to a single 1TB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) let alone a "volume" of that size; once the size is reduced the install usually goes forward.

I'm not really sure if I would want to have to deal with the issues a volume that size would generate not to mention the installation issues; it may be easier/better in the long run to get Windows installed to a smaller space.

Hang out though and get other's opinion to see what is sugggested.

As I'm sure you're aware ... YMMV.

Hello, MdmashaWelcome to the Bleeping Computer Forums. My name is Thomas (Tom is fine), and I will be helping you fixing your problems. If you do not make a reply in 4-5 days, we will have to close your topic. Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools. Doing so could cause changes to the directions I have to give you and prolong the time required. Further more, you should not be taking any advice relating to this computer from any other source throughout the course of this fix.If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself. Please reply using the button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply. Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post.Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just post back here so that we know you're still here. Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start, open My Computer, select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.

Hi,
I have recently tried to install a 64 bit version of XP on my Dell Inspiron N5050.
It was running Win7 before and I needed XP for work.
I made the partition, and installed XP and now Windows 7 will not boot. I tried installing EasyBCD but since the drivers were not installed on the new OS, I can't connect to the internet at all.
I just need some help on possibly removing the XP partition and recovering with the win7 recovery partition so I can just run XP on a virtual console.
When I boot the computer it does not give me the option to use the recovery disk or boot windows 7 at all.
Let me know if you need any other information.
Thanks

Greetings random Win7 failed with restart repair interval Thanks from the start Here we go I own a HP pavilion g - b dx its running windows bit its got the base hardware and is days old I with-puredata -a music program and some recorded music on it Kaspersky anti virus audacity and some mp s as all I had added to it On the th night the computer locked up with just firefox open the screen had vertical and horizontal flickering lines on it I could not get the computer shutdown with the power button so I unplugged the ac adaptor and removed the battery At first after the shutdown the computer would not turn on the power button would light but not stay on and the caps lock was flashing but I dont remember the code I didnt learn about that being a code until afterwards It seemed to be continual flashing in singlets if that helps Looked like hardware to me but the further evolution has led me to second guess this hypothesis Finally the computer came back on at this point Kaspersky popped up saying all of its databases were corrupted Win7 random interval restart with failed repair and that it couldn t run and there was a possible infection Win7 random interval restart with failed repair on the computer I tried the boot disk from my kaspersky disc as a way to disinfect and just got a lot of restarts out of it After restarting it would ask whether I wanted to repair windows or not I generally hit repair the computer would restart as it said it would but sometimes ask the repair question again Finally I got into windows and got it working but I couldnt get Kaspersky to operate even after re-install the restore funtion in the control panel would not restore the system to factory defaults advanced options menu wouldnt even open This pattern of restarts is still continuing but it is happening less frequently Ive restored the system twice since kept it offline except when in safe-mode with networking and run a dizzying array of security programs When I run malwarebytes norton cccleaner OTL spybot search and destroy the norton internet scans sophos and all of them come back negative Also of the time a scan causes the computer to restart After the first reinstall a scan caused kaspersky to go beserk a second time after the first system restore and caused norton to go beserk after I uninstalled kaspersky and tried it with Norton The computer also freezes occasionally in the middle of running some of the diagnostics at f during the laoding screen It seems to complete the battery test and has passed run test once but crashes on memory then has no log of that crash When the comp crashes at f it displays the same patterns of vertical and horizontal green lines as it did at the first quot freeze quot and the screen freezes sometimes it restarts itself from here and sometimes it doesnt Currently I m running the minimal disk image restore I have no anti-virus loaded except spybotsearchanddestory on which has run clean with no infections and I am using safe mode with networking I can get other programs to run I ve downloaded puredata again but they also crash intermittently with the hard reset and safe mode option I can t tell if this is a virus bad hardware or a software conflict but all the bleepery witht he virus programs and their not being able to detect anyhting makes me suspicious and confused I m pretty much trying to determine if I should give up the malware hunt and send it back to HP to get serviced I wish it had happened on the th day after purchase not pm on the th Thanks to anyone who reads this novel

Hi

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 per loaded with Windows 7. Tried installing XP on a partition on the same HHD. Installation failed saying "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem ...etc"

The only option i have is to boot off the usb i created with xp iso and press R to take me to XP recovery console. I am so over XP at the moment all i want is to be able to log into Win7 again.

How can i fix this? My understanding is that the MBR is still pointing to the XP partition. How do i change it back to the Win 7 partition (C:\)?

The laptop did not come with any cds or recovery disks but i have a recovery partition on the HDD that i cannot access.

Please help to log back into Windows 7.

Thanks

Hi all,

Over the last week or so, we have experienced an epidemic of Windows 7 PCs displaying the message "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain has failed".

We have had to manually unjoin and rejoin over 140+ PCs in the last week alone, however some of these same PCs have the same message re-occuring again today...

So i'm in a rut here, why are the Pcs coming back up with the same Trust message when we already manually fixed them last week....

Need urgent help to fix this.

Ok my dell laptop had win7 home premium, i tried to set up a dusl boot with windows xp.
Xp would not boot up correctly and shows a blue screen which mentioned something about graphic display.
I tried a few more xp setup attempts by deleting or formatting the partition and starting over but i still get the same blue screen error.
I got fed up and deleted the partition and just wanted to go back to using win7. However i am no longer able to do so, is it because the xp bootliader has wrote over the win7 one? Can this be rectified without installing xp?
Iv tried to access the recovery partition but i cant get to the option to repair.
Laptop is a dell n5010 all help appreciated

A:Failed dual boot setup now cant get win7 working

It sounds like you can't boot the Dell laptop at all now, right ?

Can you use another PC to download and burn a bootable CD disc ?
If you can,
- download free Partition Wizard bootable CD
-- Partition Wizard bootable CD
- create a bootable CD
- boot with the PW disc
- take a camera pic of your Dell partitions and post the picture in your reply
-- Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

EDIT: Fixed invalid PW link

A MANIFEST file is an xml file with the same name as your executable that tells windows which versions of dependencies (dll files and such) to use with the executable.

This is a component of HP Digital Imaging Toolbox. You probably have a missing executable or a corrupted startup entry. Uninstall and reinstall all HP Printer/Scanner/Camara drivers on your computer and it should take care of it.

My C drive is nearly empty, so I downloaded TreeSize, which says that my "Manifest Cache" is huge, taking up 90% of the space. I haven't been able to download service pack 1 for this computer--an error always happen--and I think that has something to do with the problem. I can't even try to download it manually now, since I don't have enough space. What is this Manifest Cache? How do I fix this?

A:Manifest Cache

Welcome
YOu do not want to remove the manifest. Here is an explanation
.EXE.manifest
Although it can be deleted, I would not try before using some of the methods shown below to solve the problem.

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/0...pace-in-vista/
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...reg_R1002_USEN

Download and run Ccleaner, do not check any registry entries, and a lot of space will be made available.
http://www.piriform.com/

This will also make space available
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index...s&showfile=187

To make sure that the problems are not caused by outside malware
Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full and updated scan with malwarebytes.

You may, also, want to unistall programs that are no longer in use.

What is the error number, when you try to download?

please provide a bit more info on your problem. have you tried scanning your computer for any viruses and spyware? if not then i recommend you scan your computer with spybot and adware SE version. a good anti-virus program to scan your computer with is AVG. all three programs can be downloaded at www.majorgeeks.com

My sons PC crashed and I had to reload Windows 7 and all the updates. When I reinstalled Flight Simulator 2004 and tried to run it stated I needed to run it in Administrator Mode and try again. I ran it in Administrator Mode and it failed to open. I have
installed the Flight Simulator update and all drivers including video card are current for his PC. I figure a windows security update for Win7 has caused the problem since I tried the program in another PC running Win 7 with the same result.

On Portege R930-122 toshiba Value added package reports during installation regDB get item failed.

Starting changing or remove SW procedure leads to same report.
Toshiba Flash cards program is installed, but function keys enabling on disabling leads no difference (no function keys).

Toshiba accessibility reports: this system cannot make use of Toshiba accessibility.

Function keys have worked until I updated some Toshiba and Intel video driver packages, but cannot find which one is causing this.

Do you happen to know where to look?

A:Portege R930-122 - Toshiba VAP REGDB Get Item failed Win7 Pro 64 bit

Hi

Without the good working Toshiba VAP, other Toshiba software would not work correctly.
Therefore it?s important to get the VAP package working before starting the installation of other Toshiba software!

From my point of few you should update the Win 7 to the latest state before starting the software installation. The Win 7 SP1 should be installed before starting the additional software.

I found some installation instruction and the proper order:

No DMP files included in upload Please use this method.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Can you boot from a Windows installation disc and get to the first screen where it asks you to choose a language?

If you can get that far, you should be able to then run Diskpart and wipe and reformat the suspect SSD.

Greetings!
I have an Optiplex 9010 AIO. This morning I was trying to update the BIOS of my system, from A10 to A13. During the update process it showed an error: "ME FW Update Failed: Internal error: FWU_Buffer " - please see the photo below. Although the update failed on the Management Engine part, it still boots up and running OK. I tried couple of times to update the BIOS, and each time I got the same error. I tried to flash the A12 and A11 BIOS as well, A12 gives same error, and A11 has the same Management Engine version hence no use.
Any help on this is very much appreciated!

Hey guys, long time reader but first time poster.

Always had SP1 fail to install, so this weekend i decided to look into a bit more and try and sort it.
Ran SFC and got the following error

2011-11-12 17:06:32, Info CSI 00000314 [SR] Cannot verify component files for Microsoft-Windows-Font-TrueType-Narkisim, Version = 6.1.7600.16385, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral, manifest is damaged (TRUE)

I have tried uninstalling the the font mentioned and reinstalling from my installation disc, i have ran a disk scan and a virus check but it keeps showing up??
The other odd thing is i'm running an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 not AMD??

Have you guys got any suggestions?

A:Error installing SP1 - SFC says manifest is damaged

Hello ljphil78,

* System Restore - Should you wish to go back in time when everything was running smoothly you can return your computer to a prior working state by choosing an appropriate earlier System Restore Point.
One thing that you should know is that a System Restore Point only can affect system (Windows) and programs files, but not your actual data (music, documents, images, etc.)

* Repair Install

Hello all, I have searched the forum and Google and not found anything on this. Whenever I use RUN, and type in msconfig, and hit enter I get the error message below. If I hit cancel it starts just fine with no apparent side effects.

Here is the error:

A problem was encountered while processing the custom tools manifest file (C:\Windows\system32\MSCFGTLC.XML). Please check the file for errors and verify that all expected tools are displayed.

The thing is, the file mentioned (MSCFGTLC.XML) doesnt exist on my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

**EDIT** Btw, this is a new system, not upgraded from XP. Thanks again!

A week or so ago my Dell XPS laptop screen display win7 to driver BSOD Prevents reset Attempt reinstall. failed. would not turn on BSOD Attempt to reset display driver failed. Prevents win7 reinstall. and BSOD Attempt to reset display driver failed. Prevents win7 reinstall. I had to connect to my external monitor to see anything the display was stretched and every time I tried to run the computer in normal mode this BSOD saying quot Attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout failed quot then the computer would restart and give me boot menu The only way to get into the computer BSOD Attempt to reset display driver failed. Prevents win7 reinstall. was through safe mode In safe mode I fiddled around a bunch with installing drivers from AMD catalyst since at one point it was missing I couldn't fix it so I decided to format my computer and re-install windows from the disk that came with the laptop The installation process stopped just after the setup said that it's updating registry settings and again the same BSOD appeared which restarted the computer I tried using the driver and utilities disk that came with the laptop but I couldn't figure out how to fix the driver or if I could without windows being installed on the system I want to know if there's any way I can fix the drivers before I install windows SO I can actually install it or if I can somehow get around the BSOD and install windows then fix the drivers with the disk

A:Can't update Windows 7 - Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80072efd

Hi,

Try to remove the proxy server entry from the WinHTTP proxy configuration for Windows 7:

1.
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start programs and files box.
2.
Right-click cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
3.
Type the following command and then press Enter:
netsh winhttp show proxy
Note The proxy setting is listed next to Proxy Server. If there is no proxy server, Direct Access <no proxy server> is shown in the Command Prompt window.
4.
To remove the listed proxy setting, type the following command and then press Enter:

netsh winhttp reset proxy
5.
Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Update, and then try to download and install updates again.Alex Zhaozx

I have been reading and Microsoft doesn't sound as effective nor even virus free.
Im looking for free anti-virus which ALL its function are enabled and same with a firewall.
I have a security problem and wonder how I can privately ask you for information on it.
You have most helpful forum.

A:Missing wuaucpl.cpl.manifest. Are Updates really important

Consensus opinion here seems to indicate AVG Free is a very good anti-virus program and Sygate a compatible firewall. See the list of 'freeware replacements for common programs' here for other choices (also contains download links): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Fre...apps-t3616.html Also have a look in the Tutorials section for ways to keep your system secure on the internet.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Sim...rnet-tut82.htmlIt is essential to have Anti-Spyware: minimum requirement is AdawareSE, SpyBot S&D, and SpywareBlaster. Others may say you need even more. They compliment one another it doesn't matter how many you have. how I can privately ask you for informationYou could PM the site Admin. My Checksurlog indicates 1 CSI Manifest Missing and 41 CSI Payload Files Missing.
I found one instance of this manifest file on the internet but was not able to get it recognized by Windows.
Nor could I find the related KB-number.

Hello,

When I try to install Windows XP Pro onto my new computer, I get the following error:

SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "D:\I386\asms\52\Policy\MSFT\Windows\Networking\RTCDLL\RTCDLL.MAN on line 0

Manifest parse Error

Invalid at the top level of the document
I thought it was the CD that was scratched but I burned the OS on a different CD and the same error occurs. I have done some testing and the hardrive is fine.

Please help.

If it is an old hard drive you may have remnants of old software. Try a "Quick Wipe" then install XP.Kill Disk

I did a routine 'sfc/scannow' in an admin window.

Then I filtered to get the relevant info...here are the only 2 NON-successful lines:

2016-05-10 08:09:18, Info CSI 00002b2f [SR] Cannot verify component files for Microsoft-Windows-User-PnpEvents, version 10.0.10586.0, arch amd64, nonSxS, pkt {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, manifest is damaged (TRUE)

and at the end, the log says:

2016-05-10 08:18:41, Info CSI 0000540d [SR] Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired

So, are these 'manifest damaged' entries something to worry about?
