WDS installation failing at 99% on expanding files : error code: 0x80070714

Q: WDS installation failing at 99% on expanding files : error code: 0x80070714

So I have a server that is running a WDS server in which we have made images for a computer lab in the past. I recently have been working on setting up a new image, and I sysprepped and captured it from a computer. After uploading it to the server then
attempting to install it on a client PC, it will expand files until 99% then give me an error "Windows cannot install required files....error code: 0x80070714. I have mounted this image through imagex to check if there were any lingering file problems,
and did not find any. I took a default installation wim from an Enterprise disc and installed that through the server which worked fine. I even recaptured the image from the same computer to see if it was corrupted. I am unsure of what else to try. Thanks
for any help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have tried to update my Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 pro failing with error 0x80070714. I also cannot seem to use the original Key! It says it is NOT a working Key. I loaded Win 8.1 Pro with it and just used a Key Recovery program and yes, it is and was

Hi everyone.
I have recently bought a new PC and am trying to install the windows 7 release candidate on it but it gets stuck on expanding files at 0% every time and just won't budge.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been getting so exited about it coming, what with delays, and then i can't get the damn thing to work.

Now it has come up with this error message :Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required are available, and restartt the installasion. Error code 0x80070015.

A:installation stuck on expanding files at 0%

Hi Jrandomguy and welcome to SevenForums,

The Error code 0x80070015 relates to a device not ready which would normally relate to the DVD drive

This may be simply that the install DVD is corrupted in some way or that the download of the .ISO is faulty in some way. worst case would be a hardware faullt

You could try re-burning at the 1x speed to give the disk the best chance of burning correctly, or maybe downloading again.

Other options are use of a USB stick to install from - if this is an option for you - there is a tutorial on this site if you want to try this method - at least the media is re-usable - I have used RW DVD media for the same reason in the past

Hopefully, you are doing a clean installation. Assuming that you are, make sure everything is disconnect from the computer except the monitor, mouse and keyboard. Uninstall A/V and the firewall. Make sure that if you are installing a 64 bit, you have the required specifications and space. Actually make sure you have enough space for 32, also.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, here is my issue. I have a Legit copy of W7, and all my hardware is new. The setup works fairly smoothely until the "Expanding Files" comes up. At which point, it doesn't proceed further than 0%, then after about 15 minutes, its pops up "required files missing." I have tried to remove a stick of ram, relocate ram, differant hard drive, everything disabled in the bios, over clock, under clock, manual set ram........ I even tried two other copies of windows 7, both 64 and 32. I can't figure it out. I need help!!!

A:Windows 7 Installation Stops at Expanding Files

Problem: Setup is stuck at X%What to try:
Disconnect all unnecessary hardware from the system. This includes hard drives, video cards, USB devices, and expansion cards. Remove all but one stick of RAM.

Use the VGA output on your card if possible.

These problems can also be caused by bad RAM. Run a memory diagnostic overnight, using Memest86 or something similar.

If nothing above works, you may have bad installation media. What condition is the disc in? Verify your copy of Windows came from a reputable source. Try burning a new DVD, using the slowest speed possible.

A:Windows 7 64bit Installation freezes during expanding files

Hello poltoo, welcome to Seven Forums!

If the Windows 7 install disk is one you burned yourself it may be a bad burn and needs to be done again, if so this would be the first thing to try.

Use the free ISO burner at the link below to burn another at a speed of now more than 4x and select to let the program to verify the disk before it finishes.

A:Installation Extremely Slow - Hangs during Expanding Windows Files

I was having the same issue as the original above... "Windows 7 64-bit would hang at 0% when expanding Windows files"

I originally was getting the 0xc00000e9 error when Windows 7 64-bit was trying to load the installer, which lead me down the path of burning at a lower speed.  That worked!

After reading all of the other user's helpful tips, my issue was resolved by simply ejecting the DVD while it was stuck at 0%.  It prompted to retry the disc, so I popped it back in and it screamed through the install.  I couldn't believe it was that simple, but nothing to do with removing RAM or USB devices.  Hope this helps someone else! :)

Hi everyone
I am trying to install windows 7 64 with a new M3A79-T. It keeps freezing at expanding files with error 0x80300001.
I figure this might be due to missing sata drivers but when i click load drivers during the installation
windows doesn't recognize anything. I tried with the mobo support dvd and i tried burning drivers from the mobo website and using that dvd. In either case i can browse to the dvd but all the folders
in it are empty, so nothing to install even though the driver are definitely there. when i click on scan
i get a message that no signed device drivers were found.

I have no idea where to go from here.

A:installation freezes at expanding files and doesnt recognize drivers

The error is almost always a bad installer. Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? Confirm the ISO and burn another using ImgBurn at 4x speed, or write confirmed ISO to flash stick using Universal USB Installer with Win7 in dropdown menu.

Okay i can get the windows installion all the way to part 2 installing windows where it says expanding files it will get to around the high 80% or 90% complete then i will get an error that says windows cannot access the installion sources verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. And i restart and try again and it gives me the same thing. So any help would be apprecaited.

Thank you,

Jason

A:Installing windows 7 error when expanding files

I had similar problems when I first downloaded the W7 x64 Pro ISO image from MSDNAA...when I burned the ISO to DVD the burn speed was set too high and some files didn't burn correctly and this caused errors during installation...the problem was easily fixed by burning the DVD on the lowest burn speed...if you are using a retail disc and are getting these errors the disc may be defective

A:Hang up at expanding files (various percentages, various error message

There is no point in buying full retail if you qualify for Student Upgrade as the installers are exactly the same - it's only the key which determines which will activate.

Is your BIOS EFI? If so remove EFI Boot disk from boot order, enable Legacy BIOS and install to wiped MBR disk. Set SATA controller to AHCI first to try install, then IDE mode.

Try wiping the SSD first with Diskpart Clean Command before install.

Will it install to HDD?

Hi supermanho, welcome to the forums.

What speed did you originaly burn the DVD? Because of the size of the install.wmi (or .wim i can't remember) file (over 2GB) a higher burn speed can cause write errors that will only be detected when reading disks. Try the slowest speed and see if that helps.

A:Expanding Windows Files Error - Former Linux Hard Drive

First you say you Didn't have a copy of Win 7, then you say you are loading win 7. Where did you get your copy of Win 7?

If your Dell originally came with 7 then you had a chance to created the 7 install DVD from files originally on your drive. As you say you didn't have a copy of 7 I take it you never made that DVD when you first got this Dell.

I would suspect the DVD you are using and or the ISO you are using to create the DVD's and thumb drive. That and Dell may of included special software in their 7 DVD for use on that system.

If you call Dell you will be able to order a proper Dell 7 DVD from them for a small fee.

A:Error at "Expanding Files": Windows cannot install required files. 0x80070570

I resolved the problem I had. It appeared to be a memory chip. I do not know whether it is a bad chip or just a compatibility issue.I had 2.5GB of RAM: 1GB 800Mhz and the rest 512MB 688Mhz. I took out the 1GB and the install went through fine. Windows 7 is running just fine with 1.5GB of RAM on a 2.8Ghz Pentium D.

Hmmmm, a lot of people are having trouble downloading SP1. (See the OnTheRopes' post above you where I just posted these same tutorials.) And as I said to OnTheRopes, if these tutorials don't solve your specific installation problem, hopefully they will lead you to other tutorials that will help.

From Microsoft - Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

SP 1 - INSTALLATION FAILURES
From Microsoft - Installation of the Service Pack 1 update package for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 fails with "Service pack installation can't continue"

SP 1 – INSTALLATION FAILURE - OF WINDOWS LIVE ESSENTIALS
From Microsoft - Why am I receiving a message about Microsoft Security Essentials or Microsoft Forefront Client Security when installing a service pack?

From Microsoft - re: Microsoft Security Essentials - If you do not have version 1.0.1963.0 or later installed, upgrade using the instructions in KB2254596 (You are prompted to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials (1.0.1963.0)) , or launch Microsoft Update and install the update or a newer version from there. Have never had Avast free home interfere with anything, but you can disable it to try the Updates by right clicking it's icon in system tray and "turn off real time protection"

I note that another recent thread on this error found by Googling also remains unresolved.

If you bought your Win7 retail, you are entitled to MS excellent tech support which will work the case through to satisfaction. Those Updates are standard and can wait a few days.

I have Windows 7 SP1 x64 Ultimate installed.
For some reason my Windows Updates started failing with error code 80070034

I ran Sfc /scannow and it bombs out at 8% with the error "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

From the CBS log, these are the errors listed:
2011-02-24 14:02:04, Error CSI 0000005b (F) STATUS_DUPLICATE_NAME #843818# from CFileInstaller::CommitChanges(...)[gle=0xd00000bd]

I tried changing the computer name, the workgroup name, installed Windows6.1-KB2484033-x64 (The Windows Update preparation or fix update?)

Renamed catroot2.
Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks for the help!

A:Windows Updates all failing - Error Code 80070034

Hi, ImpetuousRacer.

The System File Checker tool needs to be run as Adminsitrator. If you did not use an Admin account, please try again. You may also want to run SFC in Safe Mode (Restart your Computer, tap F8 until the startup options appear, select Safe Mode).

If no luck with SFC completing, I suggest you run chkdsk. See this tutorial for instructions: Disk Check.

Follow with a shutdown/restart and then run the Microsoft Fix it in both default and aggressive mode to reset the Windows Update components.

I am having an issue installing one update (KB3072630) in particular on a user's PC. The PC is Windows 7 SP1 enterprise x64. Other updates have successfully installed as recently as yesterday (Sept. 3rd). The error code I am getting is 0x800b0100. So far
I have tried doing the following to fix the issue:
- running the update from windows update (we originally were deploying via sccm 2007)
- downloading the update and installing manually
- running microsoft fixit tools
- run system update readiness tool for windows 7
- run update diagnostic tools (which returned 2 errors - see screenshot)

I am all out of ideas and at this point and am hoping someone has some ideas on how to get this update installed.

Thanks,

Justin

Hey Everyone!
I'm unable to do any windows updates due to error code 800B0100. I think a recent virus I had may have tampered with update files. I tried running the System Update Readiness Tool as suggested in Help and Support however the update installation on that failed too. Due to other problems I've been having recently I'm considering re-installing my OS at this point.
Any advice you have would be really appreciated! Thanks

Hi,
I am getting a 'Windows Update encountered an unknown error" with the error code 80073712 when trying to install KB3014406. It is the only update which is failing to install.

Unfortunately, the CBS.zip file is 32,8MB. Since you require the whole folder, I have uploaded it to my Dropbox at the following link:

I've been trying to solve this for a few months now but I haven't gotten anywhere. I've followed all the instructions here and they still continue to fail.

Windows Update Posting Instructions
I would really appreciate any insight as to what you think may be causing the issue, reformatting would really set me back since this computer has some industry specific CAD programs that are a pain to setup.

thanks again,Mark

For some reason I cant post an attachment "attach button doesn't respond, in fact none of them do", I'll add a reply to the thread to see if I can then.

Update: Sorry about the missing attachments, I moved them out of the folder and forgot to attach, there are a couple of older CBS Persist files if you need them.

thanks

Mark

A:Installation failing i keep getting feature transfer error

If this is a program; I would first download, install, and run the free edition of revo uninstaller; which should completely uninstall ALL of the program you are trying to install; including registry entries, etc. and then reboot; which will clear the system resources, etc. then try and install it again. Below is the link to revo uninstaller:

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Now; if you do all of that and it still does not work for ya; post back and we can go from there.

The CheckSUR log is incomplete - and there are no apparent problems in the CBS log or SFC scan.

Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file to a replay, and run the CheckSUR tool again - post the CheckSUR.log and CheckSURPersist.log files.

A:Windows 7 not updating to SP1 Window Update failing error code 800736B

Hello and welcome Greg now I am assuming you have 7 onboard and have been using it - or is it a new install and you are trying to get SP1 installed?.

If it is the latter then it is easily fixed using this tutorial
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
If you have data on the install then if it isn't too much just back it up and do the tutorial.

Just one thing make sure you only pick the version you have an activation code for as trying to get a higher version installed will end in grief.

I keep getting a message saying drivers failed to install correctly and a yellow exclamation mark next to the USB mass storage device (error code 10) when I look in Device Manager...

I've don't really know where to start with any of this but I am thankfully quite good at following instructions so fingers crossed someone can help me out!

It isn't proving to be a problem with USB keys but my printer (Brother MFC-235C) isn't being recognised at all now and was previously just initiating driver installation but obviously then I was getting the failed message...

Any help would be hugely appreciated as a student without access to a printer is a small disaster!

Thanks again

Hello.

This is my first post here; so I hope I am not breaking the rules by posting a help thread immediately after registration. I'll basically describe what has happened today with my PC. I was originally running Vista, but then I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 with a new hard drive. My issue is that I can not install Windows Ultimate 64bit. I am able to boot from the CD/DVD and then enter the setup; but as soon as it begins it rushes through copying files in less than a second and then it hangs at Expanding Files (0%), the dots after it move, I've left it for as long as 30 minutes before realizing nothing was happening.

I've done a HDD diagnostic and a RAM diagnostic, both came back positive for no errors.

Hello, cheers to all of you who are trying to help!

Like the title says, I'm trying to install Windows 7 on Toshiba Equium and every time setup stops on the "Expanding Windows files (0%)". I've tried to google the solution but not a thing I tried helped.

Been there, done that list:
Memtest
Complete disk format (filling with 0's)
IDE/AHCI
Burning new DVDs
Using bootable USB
Debug mode
Reseting CMOS (default BIOS settings)
Selecting partition active with DISKPART
Do you have some other ideas other than what I've tried? In either way, I'm very thankful!

Hello Cabbageman, welcome to Seven Forums!

The one thing you didn't mention is the probable suspect, where did the Windows installer you are using come from, perhaps that is the issue and securing another installer will sort it for you.

So I'm reinstalling Vista because I'm getting fed-up with all these viruses I'm getting. I've taken that off with multiple AntiVirus Programs but they always come back (and more!.

I tried reinstalling windows, but on the part "expanding files" at 27% (right after it restarts the computer for the first time) it gives me an error saying "windows cannot install required files. make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation".
I really want to know how to resolve this issue. (BTW I'm using the Vista re installation disc that came with my computer from Dell)

Contempt Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!IF the drive has failed, there is nothing you can do to fix it, and the more you use it, the less likely you'll be able to recover anything on it Your best bet for recovering data now is to do the following:1) Remove the hard drive from the PC2) Purchase a USB-to-Hard Driver adapter kit3) Download and install this utility on a working PC: http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/recover_data_in_3_steps_with_minitool_power_data_recovery_free_...4) Connect the old drive to the working PC5) Run the data recovery utility to see what can be retrieved from the old drive. If that tools does not find what you need, an alternative is Recuva: http://www.piriform.com/recuva And, if that does not work well, the best tool out there is this one, but only the trial version is free: http://www.file-recovery.com/Good Luck

A:How to fix driver installation, error code 28

Just keep in mind that in the case where a PC has been positively infected by malware that the system can be messed up so badly, often due to the cleanup, that a clean install is the only viable option.
Of course we all want to avoid the clean install due to the sheer size of the project (installing and configuring Windows is the easy part) so it makes sense to try some possible fixes, but at some point you have to realize the time spent trying to patch up a system could exceed the time needed for the clean install.
Set a time budget. When you exceed the budget it is time to bite the bullet.

You might start by trying a Repair Installation:
Repair Install

Or you could start by uninstalling any programs related to the problem devices, then uninstalling the problem devices, and then scanning the Windows registry and deleting any and all keys that contain the device name. Then finding and deleting any folders related to the device. You could do the devices all at once, or one at a time.
Reboot, then run CCleaner's registry cleaner to find any stragglers you missed.
Then reboot and start installing the devices again (clean).
This is an advanced method, only for folks who are experienced working with the registry. You can really mess things up if you don't know what you are doing.
If these do not work you may be stuck with the solution that cannot be named.

If you are NOT trying to install AVG and this error is popping up out of the blue then see the following post (#2 from Johnw) instead. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The usual cause for AV uninstall issues is not first shutting down real-time monitoring.I wonder if it is Avast remnants that are actually causing the problem - mis-reported. Hello, I just formatted my pc and installed with Win7. Then I tried to install a game i previously played on WinXP (name of the game is Sudden attack). However, it shows me "Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package".

anyone knows how to solve this?

A:Installation error code 1335

Hello!

Well, the error message is telling you what could be the problem.
I don't believe that you are installing this game from network,
so I am assuming that you are installing from CD-ROM.
Now, CD-ROM might bad and cannot read CD properly and that is why this could be problem with the package.
Maybe CD is bad and CD-ROM cannot read the content on the CD properly.

Try to install the game on some other PC.
If you successfully install this game, than problem is most likely with the CD-ROM.
If you cannot install on the other PC, the problem is most likely with the CD being bad.

Keep us posted...

You can update Windows vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate..

Hello,

I've just installed Windows 8 (from usb) on my brand new HP laptop and everything worked fine. But I didn't partition hard drive as I wanted, so I decided to install it again.

During the 2nd installation, the keyboard wasn't working (don't know why). So, when I was supposed to make partitions again, I deleted every partition and tried to make new ones, but I couldn't 'cause of the keyboard. So I just exited from the installation and turned off the computer.

Then I tried to boot the system from usb again, but all I could see was a blue screen with a message that my computer is damaged and needs to be repaired. There was also an error code 0xc0000034. And now everytime I turn it on, there's only the blue screen with no other options.

Any suggestions what to do?
Thank you in advance.

I used to run windows 8.1 x64 but I had to reformat because I thought that would've fixed my problems installing windows 10. When I tried to install windows 8.1 x64 again it failed and got the 0x80070570 error. I also tried windows 7 64bit and windows 10 64 bit but I got the same errors. 32-bit OS installs fine though. Of course all my attemptse were clean installs.

Hello and welcome Cave mate I think personally although fiddly using this tutorial and invoking the ie.cfg removal tool would be far less problematical as long as you choose the correct version for which you have the activation code for.

I found this; Rename (or just delete) the SoftwareDistribution folder and see if it helps. You can use the procedure described here: http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5co...id=21&ln=en Note that a side effect of renaming or deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder is that you lose your Windows Update History listing (not critical). (later on, you can just delete the renamed SoftwareDistribution folder) http://www.eggheadcafe.com/forumarchives/w...ost24597399.aspBut can not make it out, and can not see the relationship with the, Microsoft Online Assisted Support ?Anyone who can co-relate this in explanation I will be glad to hear from !

Hi,

You covered a lot, so the only thing I can think of is to take the CD/DVD drive out of the equation (although I note you did install a Linux distro using that, in addition to PW).

Download the appropriate Windows 7 ISO here, then use this tool to write it to a 4GB USB flash drive, which also makes it bootable. Insert the drive into a USB2.0 port, and then boot from that and try the installation.

The error is usually an I/O error....although I don't know why you should be able to install a Linux distro and not Windows. Did you install all the motherboard drivers prior to attempting to install Windows 7?

Regards,
Golden

Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. Hello and welcome Lazor PC mate for starters it would be best to remove all the drives except the one you want as the boot drive one - I mean just unplug the data cables (SATA) on the others and then try this tutorial way of installing it is the freshest version of whatever version you have on the machine. Br careful to pick only the version you have already because some smart A's try to go to a higher version and then get grief +++++++ when trying to activate using the original code.

Might I make a suggestion that if your budget can stretch to a SSD then it is by far and a way the way to go.

Installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 fails everytime on my PC. It stops on the very first step (Runtime Pre-requisites). When I took a look at the error report, I found out that the error code was (Can you believe my luck!) 1603. It just means "Fatal Error during installation" (Or does it?).

After this, I tried to intall this software after uninstalling VC++ 2005 and deleting all of the related files too but it didn't work either. I gathered from the installation log that the installation just did diddly-squat at the very first step. Anyway, I am attaching the installation logs for analysis. Please help me!

Hello pbowles3 and welcome to the forums

Was it my zip files that you saw by any chance? Yes, these issues are specific to the user that I'm helping. This should be a 5 minute job, but I've had all sorts of curveballs in the past.

Before we continue, I need to know whether the computer is x86 or x64?

Dropping the .msu file in that folder will do nothing whatsoever I'm afraid, it doesn't say to do that in the link that you provided either:

Hello, I just installed and activated my windows 7 yesterday on my new SSD drive. So far I am very happy with my upgrade, but for one problem. I can not update at all. Since yesterday I have tried five times with no success. I keep getting the same error message; Error Code 80224402C. I am using AVG as my virus software. Thinking it may be interfering with the update I disabled it and the win7 firewall. The results were the same. You assistance with this problem will be appreciated. Thank you.

Error code 2755 when attempting installation for any product.

I am getting Error 2755 when attempting to install or during installation of Java as well as a few other products I have tested as a cross-comparison to this error.

Upon attempting installation it states "The system cannot open the device or file specified."

When you click "Cancel" it states: "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing the package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755."

The computer has Windows XP with SP3 and is fairly up to date, 99.9%. I need some ideas or help in fixing this. I am busy trying to search out some items but I'm hoping someone has fixed this before.

Thank You for yor input

A:Solved: Error Code 2755 when attempting installation of products...

Ok, if you want the short version... skip the links I posted for reference and just follow the steps. Its about 5 minutes or less depending on your machines stability and ability to compute your moves. I recommend you to reboot your computer in between steps and before you begin be sure to create a System RESTORE point as well.

This was written using XP, your system will vary slighty but not much. And YES, this is the broad basics.

Two things first...

Find out what version your MSI installer is and if it needs updating. NOTE: i would have guessed you would of received a different code or error if you just needed an update!?. Such as a message stating to be out of date; needs updating; is corrupted; etc.. i'm failry sure it works this way too. I was also getting an error 2755 when attempting a JAVA install. This turned out to be related to the "Windows Installer" not being set to Automatic and/or the service Started!
1.) --> Start --> Run --> type "Msiexec" (Case insensitive and without quotes))

Should this attempt not work, Microsoft lists the long run around to this as ...--> Start --> Run --> type either "command" or "cmd", and at the command prompt enter the "Msiexec". In either case read the information posted in the box, if any all you will need is the version number.

This machine had stated "V 3.01.4001.5512" which as of September 10, 2010 a new version was released to which this machine happily updated to "v4.5.6001.22159"

NOTE: Updating to current September 10, 2010 MSI Installer Package v4.5 supports ALL 2.x thru 3.x installs of MSI. This WILL NOT matter if it's a PERMISSIONS issue!

This is the information to the latest MSI installer v4.5 here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942288/

The download here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en

NOTE: In the file list via the above link Microsoft accordingly states the file as version 3.x for x86/XP.. IT HAS THE 4.5 INSTALLER in it and should be renamed. But that would be too easy:

--->> The file is named as: WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe (Two Thumbs Up!!)
2.) Be sure your Windows Installer via the Services Snap-In says its functioning and is set to automatic via these steps:

Click --> Start --> Run --> type either "compmgmt.msc" or "services.msc" to get the "Services and Applications // Services" Snap-In window.

Alphabetized you'll find the "Windows Installer" near the bottom of the list. See that it is set to Automatic and Enabled via right click and properties, or similar.
3.) These are the other options to try if the above show good thus far and If your not getting a "required update or missing/corrupted file or similar then it very well may be a PERMISSIONS issue. So, diligently going about so as not be corrupt your admin account...

First, right click the file your trying to install and allow it unrestricted permission. You can also try and workaround the next step by giving it administrative access via the "Run As" command. This last part is providing you have another account with administrative rights. Now.....

For XP, decipher what your admin account name is (see very bottom of this post), if this is the account your on then have someone help you create another account for your daily access and as a backup operation. Either way, log into the admin account. and, if thats the account your using or going to use...

...and if you have tried installing your program of issue with this account and it fails then follow these steps:

Under the start menu.. -->Start --> Run --> type %Temp%

(YOU MUST HAVE allowed viewing Hidden and System files via the above "Folder Options" menu's), Then, hit your backspace key, see that "Temp" folder, right click the TEMP folder and check for "permissions"... Read more

When attempting a clean install i receive and error after clicking 'Install Now' (step 3). It reads

Windows cannot open the required file D:\sources\install.wim. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007000D

I've searched the forums a bit and haven't found any other posts about this error. I've tried installing both the 32 and 64 bit versions, same issue for both. Help please!

Edit: i'm attempting the clean install on my old vista 32bit laptop, not my windows 7 desktop.

Edit #2: when i attempt to run the 32bit setup file while in vista it immediately opens a window that says 'windows installer has stopped working'

A:Installation error code: 0x8007000D cannot open D:\sources\install.wim

This is with the Build 8102 Windows dev Preview download?

What do you have the installation media on...a USB drive, a DVD, etc?

Possible maybe the downloads were corrupt? Try downloading one again and try that one. Or stick on different device USB, DVD, drive, etc..and try.

Also might scan your HDD/SSD you're trying to install it to for any possible defects.

Hi there,

at the moment i'm trying to install the sp2 for office 2010 64bit via windows update and it fails every time. During the installation it asks for the file ProPlusWW.msi and i'm pointing to the file in the x64-folder on the dvd. Shortly after that the installation quits with code 8024002D 'Unkown error in windows update' (see attachment).

PS: like the picture shows its a german installation

I hope somebody can help me

A:Office 2010 64bit: error code 8024002D during installation SP2

I also tried to install via downloading the sp2 (officesp2010-kb2687455-fullfile-x64-de-de.exe) but this fails also. The problem here is that it only shows a message box (Error during installation of the package.) without any code/error-number.
