Preferred Solution: Installing Windows 7Pro Issues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I have a Lenovo laptop and had to do a full factory install from the recovery partition All went well but then I got updates for windows I set it going and several hours later it said quot Restart quot so I did It got to and sat there for two hours I finally pulled the plug started in Safe Mode and it reverted the updates I tried again with only half checked and same again windows update 7Pro crashing Did some research and found on the msoft site it may be the Intel Rapid Storage Technology IRST causing the problems I updated those drivers well tried as it came back quot already up to date quot I then tried updating in small batches of ten and got a lot of them updated but it is still showing seven-Critical updates but still cannot get past that hanging Any help with this Can I remove IRST how as I do not use any RAID and it would certainly drop one thing out of the quot might be the cause quot list Thanks

I recently purchased a Linksys router which requires Windows Service Pack 3 for installation. I installed the update on Windows Update and it shows it as sucessful, however I have restarted my computer several times and is still running on SP2 when I check "My Computer - Properties", and the router set-up CD is still saying I need to upgrade to SP3. Why is it not working? I have searchd everywhere on the computer to see if maybe the files need to be Run, but I cannot find them. I am totally at a loss to figure out how to complete the update and continue installing my router. Please help!

So I just built my new computer. All is well until I try to install Windows. When I get the blue screen which installs all of the necessary drivers and whatnot to start the Windows installation it just hangs at the "Setup is starting Windows" message on the bottom of the screen. This is just before where you choose where to install Windows, create partitions and all of that fun stuff.

Any help getting Windows to install would be great, so far I'm stumped.

I have read the tutorial on How to Create a Ssytem Image Backup and have a few questions as a new Win 7 user:

From the tutorial Backup Complete Computer - does this really mean what it says ..... Quote "This will show you how to create a system image (clone) backup of the entire hard drive..."

I have used Acronis on my XP pc and wonder if the backup app in 7 makes a full HDD image of not only the operating system and system settings but all documents, program files, videos, photos etc - in other words everything on the HDD.

Is this as effective as Acronis or Macrium - any opinions?

Will it create a bootable disk in the event of a crash or will a 3rd party app be required?

Mary

Yep, a system image would be a complete backup of all system hard drives, and any drive you select to be included.Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

While I never had an issue using the built-in system image feature in Windows, Macrium is a good option as well.Imaging with free Macrium

I wanted to do a reinstall of Windows 7 and so far it's done nothing for me except cause stress and frustration. First it tells me it cannot install to disc because it's GPT, whatever that means... So I'm told to do Shift+F10 and enter these commands:

diskpart
select disk 0
clean
convert GPT

This appeared to work but then I got a different message. It reads "Windows cannot be installed to the disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

Not sure what to do from here... It managed to install Ubuntu so the HDD itself is fine. It's just Windows 7.
I'm on an Acer Aspire V531 BTW.

Please help this is my only computer....

I have crippled a brand new unused Lenovo G580 Laptop trying to install windows 8.

Attempted to install from a USB drive after the install from desktop option failed due to "cannot initialize start menu" error.

Having loaded the USB on the "Where do you want to install windows 8?" menu my HD was listed in 4 partitions: 1= system Drivers (system), 2 = Windows 7 (Primary), 3 = Lenovo (Primary) 4 = Lenovo_Part (reserved)

Installation was not possible on any drive to due error message : "The selected disk has an MBD Partition table. On EFI systems Windows can only be installed to GTP disks"

I then stupidly clicked on format and formatted partition 2 which contained the Windows 7 OS thinking that would let me install 8. However even after that the same error message prevents installation and now i've lost my windows 7 files meaning the laptop no longer runs.

Can anyone give me some sage advice or point to where I might get some?

I have 2 windows updates that haven't installed for about a month now..

-Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2656351)
-Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2600217)

Hey guys I installed Windows onto one of my computers the one that connects directly to fios a couple weeks back and since then I have been having network issues All of the other computers on the network run XP including the one that has my printer connected to it Since I upgraded the one computer to all of the other computers have been unable to print aside from the one that 7 Windows one installing on issues after Networking computer is actually connected to the Networking issues after installing Windows 7 on one computer printer of course All computers are on the same workgroup MSHOME After I installed on the one computer it defaulted the workgroup to HOMEGROUP so I had to change it back to MSHOME and got rid of the homegroup the new Windows feature On the computer that is running Windows if I look at the network it sees no other computers but if I go on one of the XP computers the one that is attached to the printer I can see the Windows PC as well as the other XP ones On one of the other XP computers I cannot see the other XP computers but it allows me to add a network place so I can see a shared folder on the Windows PC It however does not allow me to add a network place that is located on any of the other XP computers I m very confused about all of this and I have no idea what might have happened and I need to get these computers networked with the printer once again After I realized that none of the computers were able to print I went into system options right clicked on the network printer and clicked properties and I got the quot Print spooler service not running quot message but it is running I added a new printer and updated my drivers and tried to add a printer on each computer on the network and tried to select a shared printer by name but they all say quot Cannot connect to printer Check the printer name quot etc I have no idea what to do at this point so if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it Thanks nbsp

A:Networking issues after installing Windows 7 on one computer

Shut down all computers. Boot the "host" (the one with the printer directly connected) and one other XP PC. See if you can get connected and print to the remote computer. If successful, boot one PC at a time and see if you can get working again. If unsuccessful with just the two PCs please show for each of them ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following commands:

nbtstat -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi!
I bought a Compaq Laptop in 2005 in India. I received an "Operating System CD" (That's what it says!) with XP Home SP2. The key was on a sticker below my laptop.
I recently changed over to a Mac and want to install XP on it (Sorry!). Can I do that legally without any hassles? Also, I have moved to the US now, so does that matter? (Are licenses for particular areas only?)
Thanks a ton!

A:Installing Windows from a CD which came with one computer on another: Legal Issues

If the software is legit (easily checked by the COA you have stuck to the machine) then to install it to another machine would be okay provided that you remove it from the laptop (can only be installed on 1 machine). There are a couple of problems you may come across. If the laptop has a version of XP that's been volume licensed by Compaq then it won't install on the other machine. If it's the full (or OEM) version then it should be okay. You would likely have to ring MS to activate it and explain to them that it has been moved from one machine to another. They are pretty helpful with this type of problem and as long as you are genuine in your approach then there shouldn't be any major problem.

You cannot use an usb that had windows 7 loaded on it to install on the hp. it will be preactivated and have the dell logo, it will be an oem addition of windows and it won’t match your hardware on your hp, your wireless will not work until you download all your correct drivers.

I've just purchased a laptop (without a cd-drive) and wanted to install Office.

As a student I have free access to Office 2007 (Microsoft Office Suite 2007 Service Pack 1 32-bit (English) - MSDNAA).

I'm currently using Office Starter 2010.

Now when I download the iso file, using winRAR I am able to extract the files but when I try to install I get the following:

This is then followed by the message: "There are no products affected by this package installed on this system".

I've looked online for a starter version of Office 07 (or something like that) to no avail. I've also attempted to "burn" the iso to a usb stick and install it that way but again with no success.

I'd be grateful for some help as I have no idea of where to go from here.

Welcome to the forum,

What you are trying to install is just the service pack, that's why you are getting that message.

Hello...I will start from the begining .

I bought the Acer V5 and tried booting it up...it came with boot-up Linux which means nothing to me so I made a Windows 8 bootable USB and the problems started. First I could'n find the USB and after enabling the Legacy mode it finally found it and booted from it. Turned out the partitions are GPT and as I made the USB MBR it couldn't install so I canceled which I guess was my mistake but there was no other option. After that I created the bootable USB with GPT partition scheme and tried again. Unfortunately this time I got something called GNU GRUB....wth? I googled around and found the commands required for booting - root (hd1,0), then chainloader +1 and finally boot. Then I get the famous The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors with Status: 0xc000000e. Of course tried that couple of more times but still to no avail. I cannot recover or repair as Windows was never really installed, so I don't know what to do....Hopefully someone here would be able to help. Thanks in advance guys.

A:Issues installing Windows 10 on new hard drive

Just as the computer reboots the first time during install, pull the flash drive out.

The problem is that your bios is set to boot from USB flash drive permanently as the first device. Bios needs to be set to boot from the hard drive first as priority - and then you manually tell it to boot from the flash drive when you want it to. The workaround to changing your bios settings is to pull the flash drive out just as the computer reboots the first time when installing Windows 10.

If you happen to miss it - when the computer reboots into the first install screen again, just remove the flash drive and restart the computer.

(After doing much research) I have an older PC with XP SP3 that I want to upgrade to windows 7. First I want to clone the hard drive to an external drive then install the 7 on the computer (yes I have enough free space on the hard drive). From what I have read I will lose my documents and other files and programs I have installed. What I am worried about is the drivers. Are they left alone? Replaced? If 7 does not have an appropriate driver (like to the FAX modem) will the old one be retained? If not will my PC recognize any driverless hardware and try to find drivers via "plug and Play"? Can I import the missing driver from the clone? Thanks.

From some reason, when I go to do an upgrade install from vista business 32bit to 7 professional 32bit I recieve an error message saying that you cant do an upgrade install from XP to 7?? Really stumped about this, I think I have read through just about every topic but to no avail.

Doing a clean install is not an option as I have far to many programs and no installation cd's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

A:Upgrade from 32bit vista bussiness to 7pro problem

I thought for a brief moment for you what might help.

Simplest solution to try first is a system file check to ensure all of them are Vista. Any problematic ones, corrupted ones or incorrect versions found have a good chance of automatically being fixed. This may then allow upgrade install.

Worth a shot, for sure, as it's simple enough.

Open an elevated command prompt, copy and paste the following, then hit enter:

sfc /scannow

I currently have an AL-1540CS printer that's hooked up to the USB port of my PC. I went to the official SHARP Website to search for the drivers of it and I downloaded them. The problem is whenever I try to install the drivers it says:

"The installer has detected an unsupported operating system. This software can only be installed in the following operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista"

After it shows this message it just closes. I tried using it with compability mode, but it won't work either with any settings. I contacted SHARP, but no answer from them yet.

Any help?

A:Printer drivers not installing on Windows 7 due to compability issues.

This is SHARP's response:

"Thank you for contacting Sharp Electronics Corporation.

Currently, there is no software available for your copier that is compatible with Windows 7. We do have the software CD available for purchase, however, this will only work with Windows XP. We have no timetable on the release of any software at this time."

A:GPT Hard drive issues with installing Windows 7 Ultimate..

Hello DrWolfenstein, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since this is a new PC and formatted as GPT, then you have a UEFI motherboard.

If you have not already, then I would recommend creating a factory recovery USB to be able to restore Windows 8 back to factory conditions on your PC if you should ever want to in the future.Create a Packard Bell Factory Default Backup in Windows 8
Next, double check to make sure that there are Windows 7 drivers available for all devices on the PC. There's no sense in installing Windows 7 if you don't have drivers for the PC.

To install Windows 7 on UEFI, you would first need to create a bootable Windows 7 UEFI USB flash drive using the tutorial below.UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
Next, the tutorial below will show you how to install Window 7 on UEFI with the UEFI USB.UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with

A:Issues installing Windows XP on my hp pavilion dv6700 notebook

That's because XP does not have the SATA drivers for the Hard Drive .. so it doesn't see it.
If you know the Driver .. it can be slipsteamed into the XP install CD.
Even if you can do this, you'll probably have trouble finding the other drivers that are missing.

Have you though about getting the recovery DVDs from HP ??
You should have recovered from the recovery partition .. it was safe.

Personally, I hate windows 7. I think its crap and that windows xp is more friendly to me. I know that windows 7 is more stable than windows xp, but I don't care, I just wan't windows xp. So, I put the disk in my computer and I clicked install windows xp, but than this thing popped up.

It syas that windows 7 is incompatible with windows xp. How can I make windows 7 compatible with windows xp so that I can install and use the windows xp OS instead of windows 7?

A:Installing Windows XP on Windows 7 - Incompatibility Issues

You cannot start installation of an older version from desktop of a newer version. You need to boot your PC with XP install media.

Hi, I recently clean upgraded my Xp to Windows 7. I did a clean sintall and am slowly installing everything from scratch.

When I downloaded AVG free, it wouldn't configure the files, it just stalled.

I went with Avira, who have never failed me in the past and it installed and downloaded files without any hassles, lucky.

Since then I've downloaded the latest patch for my evga gtx 285 and the driver just stall when it says "installing files". I downloaded the 64bit patch.

The same thing has happened when I downloaded iTunes 64bit. The thing just stalls when it looks as though ti's completing installation.

Any ideas? Thanks

HF.

I have an ASUS ROG RAIDR Express PCIE SSD which I have it in UEFI mode where I was able to install Windows 7 successfully on it with my motherboard BIOS set to UEFI mode and CSM to UFEI as well. But now when I connect my storage HDD's and my 2 Corsair Neutron GTX SSD's which I set up in a RAID0 array in Legacy mode along with my Blu-ray RW optical drive, they're not recognized in Windows at all. How can I get Windows to recognize my drives in UEFI if even possible at all? I've tried switching the CSM back to Legacy to see if that'll work, but my system gets stuck in boot loop after the Intel RAID setup screen.

Sometimes you can have better luck by downloading the Service Pack and installing it directly, rather than using Windows Update.

After a year and a half of having SP1 installed, I decided to update to SP2. Two months ago, I had used vsp1cln.exe in order to clean up my winsxs folder, and was aware that I wouldn't be able to uninstall SP1. Two months ago I had no need to update to SP2, but times have changed. Is it possible to still update to SP2, or will I have to reformat?

A:Issues installing SP2

Merry Christmas.
That vsplcln was a clean up tool to get rid of the excess of the sp1 install. I do not think that you will have a problem with sp2. Give it a try, worst case scenario you will have to do a clean install of sp1 again.

Was the computer having problems like crashing, blue screens, or restarting on its own before you tried to re-install Windows?

Are you using the exact same installation CD you had previously successfully used on that particular computer?

I have an Acer notebook that has the C drive totally formatted. On my laptop I have two ISO of WinXP. One from an old cd of mine and the other from Microsoft itself.

I use rufus to create a bootable USB from my ISO, when starting from the netbook via USB I get the missing EULA cannot continue error. Rufus won't recognise the Microsoft ISO as bootable so I use a program ISO to USB. When I make it from the Microsoft ISO I get missing Hal.dll or a boot.ini cannot be found.

How can I fix these so I can make an installation USB and put WinXP on the netbook?

I know there are other ways of getting to device manager, but I wish to have this part fixed please. Any help with Please ?

Hi, MagicBytes, and welcome to the forums.

You can try uninstalling SP1 and see if both of these issues go away - and then re-install SP1 after entering your key - or you can manually download and reinstall SP1 from the large offline installer.

Lately I have been having some trouble installing anything on my laptop. Whenever I attempt to install a program, a message comes up saying that there is another installation in progress and I must complete it first, which is understandable. The Issue with this, however, is that I have no clue what this other installation is or how to stop it. Is there a way I can cancel this unknown installation or at the very least find out what it is? Please help, this is very annoying and has been going on for far too long.

This problem just started recently, I am not sure what changed aside from installing Visual Studio 2013, but I don't think thats related (Hope anyway)

So, nothing will install without elevation, but I never get the usual pop up for elevation, it just does a splash screen for a split second then goes away. I can successfully right click and run as admin, though it gets annoying. But the biggest problem is, I can't install any drivers, browser extensions, or anything that normally doesnt give the elevation prompt. And since most of these items do not have a physical icon (being installed via browser) I can't right click and elevate it.

Any ideas?

A:Installing Issues

I have an GTX260 and I get the same problem but only when I format the drive at setup, to get around it just leave the incomplete install there and just install it again in the same partition and the second time around it will complete the setup, strange I know but it works and once you have fully installed and logged on just go to your drive and delete the windows old folder and that's it have fun and send some feedback to Microsoft on it.

Hello all, great forum. I'm on a mission to install Windows 7 along side Ubuntu (which is already installed). I've got a fresh hard drive waiting for Windows, but I seem to be having some issues when installing from USB. I've got a bootable USB stick, and I've modified my bios to boot from USB first. When I reboot my computer, the windows seven install setup begins. I select the new hard drive and begin installation. All goes well, and it eventually says "Windows needs to restart to continue". The computer reboots (remember, it's booting from USB first), and immediately goes right back to the beginning of the set up process. So I'm in the infinite loop of running the set up process, but it never gets passed that. Any ideas with what I'm doing wrong? Set up seems to go fine, but after reboot, it just starts over again.

Thanks for any advice!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I have deleted your other thread on this subject. Please don`t start any more threads for this. Thanks.

Did you completely delete all partitions etc before reformatting? Also, did you do a complete format and not a quick format?

Go HERE and run one of the hard drive utilities on the drive. If it checks out ok, do the following.

Disconnect anything not required to run the system. Just leave the mobo/psu/cpu/1 stick of ram/harddrive/graphics card/cd-rom see if that helps.

If not, go HERE and follow the instructions for testing the ram etc.

Let us know the results.

Hi,

Only way of doing this is switching off and on again after some time (if I rebot immediately screen stays "shrinked"). Tried to look for a new driver or fix on the web and can't find a thing.

My config:
Radeon 9600SE VGA
AOC Spectrum 9GLrsA screen

Thanks for any help!

A:display issues after installing SP2

To clarify, the only way to get your display to get back to normal is to reboot the whole computer, or turn off & on the monitor ?

But you have to leave it off for a while. How long does it have to stay off before it "resets" ? A minute, an hour or a day ?

This sounds very weird and fun.

Did this problem start IMMEDIATELY after the SP2 application, or did it take a while to develop ? If it took a while, how long. ( A minute, an hour, a day, etc....)

Can you get to system > device manager ? If so, check to see if there are any yellow or red flags on any device, particularly video.

A:Issues installing Win 7 Pro 64 from scratch

I have even tried downloading the image file from a different source (pcworld website) and it got farther (54%),but still gave me the same error.

I should note in my first attempt to burn a new image I mistakenly downloaded the Home edition, and it installed fine before I caught my error.  I then downloaded the pcworld pro 64 version and this is where I got the same "files may be corrupt or missing" error message.

Not sure where to go from here.

Hi,
I am having trouble installing iTunes. A couple weeks ago, when after I had imported a cd and plug in my ipod to sync.
An error message popped up saying: Bonjour failed. Verify you have privileges. Also, I am only able to install or uninstall programs in safe mode. Please help!

Thanks!

A:Issues installing itunes

Hello,

A few details would be nice, if you could gather them for me.

Firstly, what version of windows 7 are you running?
Secondly, do you know if your user account is an administrator of the computer?
Thirdly, did you have iTunes previously installed, and remove it?

Hey there. I'm trying to install xp on a new machine that i just built, but its going abnormally slow. its been 2 hours and its only at 39%. I don't think i've ever had an install go this slow. Its a decent machine, i dont think its with the hardware. E8400 3ghz 6mb cache, 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram, 500gb sata hdd. Any suggestions would be helpfull.

A:[SOLVED] Installing issues

Hi mate,
Where it is hanging 39%? When you made partitions and Windows started to copy files on HDD???
Or you might thought when Windows has copied setup files and after first reboot, when Windows started to install and it hangs on 39min???
Check all things inside the case once again, make sure you have all things connected properly...
You have 4GB [2x2GB right]?
Take out one and try to install Windows or test it before you start to install Windows again...
Test it with Memtest, you can download it here: http://www.memtest.org/
Hope this will help you mate...

I am having issue with my XP MCE system loading and installing windows and IE updates. I ran a windows file scan from run/cmd using "sfc /scannow" command and there are many DLL files that the scan says windows needs to "correct", but is asking for the XP discs. My Sony computer didn't come with windows discs (not sure if any do anymore), and Sony wasn't any help - they want me to do a full recovery from the recovery media or partition, which would take me back to when I first purchased the system - not an option... So does anyone know how I can "fix" the files that the scan is looking for? The only option it allows for is to insert the XP CDs. I tried the recovery media, but the scan keeps asking for the windows CDs. Thanks.

hi guys

basically it installed 5 updates on tuesday night and shut down

started it up wed and all worked fine for a few mins then if i tried loading anything my comp just froze so had to restart, which i then had to repair and restore to previous update to get it to work

wed night it installed these 5 updates again, then when i tried my comp today i got same issue again

since then i installed the media player update and 1 other and left the 3, KB976264, KB976662 & KB978637

so one of these has some kind of issue with it, anybody any ideas, as i could leave the updates and not install them but i think they are security updates and my mcafee security centre isnt fully protected now

Hey,

I am having trouble installing a new printer. I've installed the software as instructed, but it is still having trouble being read through the usb port. I keep getting the "Unplug or eject hardware" icon in the system tray. It just doesn't seem to want to be read thru usb. Are there any usb drivers that are missing or is this a printer issue? I thought usb was supposed to be like hot swap and I can plug/unplug anything on the fly. Is that right? I ask that because I tried a usb port that I know works, but when I plug the printer into that port, I get the "Unplug or eject hardware" icon.

I can't figure out if this is a software or hardware issue. I updated my motherboard drivers already but no luck. Can anyone help me?

Ever since installing Windows I've been having issues with certain USB devices not working when they were working fine in W I've installed all of the proper drivers for my system and even made sure that it wasn't the devices failing themselves by testing it on two other systems First is my android mobile phone All of the proper drivers load up when the device is plugged in When USB transfer mode is enabled on the phone the Android UMS driver will appear under device manager However that's as far as it will go Windows will not access the sdcard through the driver as it's supposed to and does on devices USB since Issues installing with W8 both a W and XP system Any attempt to access the device properties also causes severe slowdown and lockups until the USB cable is pulled from the phone's port Issues with USB devices since installing W8 Second is my printer's mulitcard reader HP Photosmart C None of the media's that are inserted in the reader will show up on my W PC but will show up and work fine on both other PC's The drivers are up to date for all of the devices it's just my W machine that doesn't want to work properly

I'm replacing my old Graphics card with a new one I'm going from a HD to a GT So first I just shut my system down took out my old card and put in the new one I turned my system back on and system booted but as it loaded windows the part at the bottom new graphics card issues. Installing loading bar the screen went black and the system continued to boot I then put my old card back in and read online that I should uninstall my current drivers then repeat what did So i did it and again nothing At this point I'm thinking well it maybe the card so i put my old card BACK in the system and then it did the same thing System booted but when Windows started to load it went black but I could hear it continue to boot So I'm assuming Windows is not installing the most basic driver to display it self I had to do a restore on my system to get my old card to wok Installing new graphics card issues. again It seems to be that Windows is not loading the card so i can get on and install via the CD Opinions thoughts the card i bought should work on my system Installing new graphics card issues. it requires a W Power supply and dos NOT requie any type of extra power cable I only have one PCI Express slot

A:Installing new graphics card issues.

Does the card support Windows XP. It seems to be a newer card. Newer hardware sometimes don't support Windows XP. Take the new card out put older one back in. Go get into bios and look for any settings that might say "Graphics" Onboard and PCI select pci. Select F10 to save changes. Reboot. Look to see if your card supports Windows xp or not.

300W PSU means minimum I would recommend getting a good quality 500w or better PSU.

Hello,

I have installed SP 3 on a 6 year( i am not sure about the exact age) old Compaq desktop (Evo range).
It works fine only the video controller seems to only have a 4 bit mode (very large image, so no complete windows on the screen).
Before that I installed windows xp professional (version of 2004). The video operated ok then: a bit rough but complete windows. To get wireless USB stick working I decided to install SP 3.
Anyone has an idea how to solve this?

Thanks erik

First one I think is probably simple I hope My co-worker thought she was installing Office when in fact she was installing XP a second time She has a HP A N and it has a second drive which is supposed to be a recovery drive but I believe that s where the duplicate installation went During boot it asks which Windows XP Pro we want to use My question is how do I uninstall the duplicate Windows XP My second issue and admittedly this one is on me when she first bought this computer it came with Vista but one of the drawbacks with Vista is that there is still software that is not compatible and the vendor is not updating any time soon So she wanted to install XP for compatibility with our applications So before I did the install I backed up to a DVD-R After backing up data my co-worker may have ejected while still in process of closing dvd Long story short is I didn t check dvd to make sure data was actually on it and went ahead and installed XP Now when I went to restore data to computer disc is now corrupt and unreadable My question is does this data remain anywhere on drive even hidden if a reformat and clean install was done Especially being that is was different OS Thanks for the patience and any assistance nbsp

A:Newbie... Installing Win 7 - Setup Issues

Quote:
When installing Win 7 it created a 100 MB system reserve partition on one of the RE 1TB drives

I bet this is Drive 0, put your SSD on the 0 (zero) port and you will not have that problem (requires a reinstall). The 100MB partition contains the MBR (amongst other things).

If you let the Win7 installer do everything, you (theoretically) need not do anything. It does the alignment, shuts off Defrag, etc. However, the experts still do a lot of tweaking for the additional 2% of performance. I never did that and am quite happy with the result. I even turned Superfetch back on because I found it to be better. And DO NOT move the pagefile to an HDD. That would be a big mistake.

As far as Trim is concerned, you need not do anything. You can test whether your SSD has Trim support with: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify in elevated Command Prompt.

If Command Prompt returns a 0 (zero), your drive supports TRIM and it is enabled.
If it returns 1 (one), the file system has disabled TRIM for your drive. This means your drive's controller does not support TRIM.
