I think I need to replace my USB port...

Q: I think I need to replace my USB port...

Hi,

I am having troubles with my usb ports. Everytime I plug a camera or mp3 player to my pc...it always says an error that no device was found. Do I need to replace the port? If so how do I go about it.

Preferred Solution: I think I need to replace my USB port...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: I think I need to replace my USB port...

did you install the drivers for those devices? If not, it won't recognize the device.

I'm replacing a motherboard for a HP laptop. I need to replace this backplate for the CPU heatsink to the new motherboard. I've tried to pull it out but it seems to be glued onto the motherboard.
If I manage to pull it out, should I replace the glue, double-sided tape or whatever is underneath?

HP G62-b80SS laptop.
Intel Core i3 CPU.
Thank you

A:How can I remove/replace this CPU heatsink backplate (where the CPU socket is screwed)?

It is probably double stick tape used to insure it stays in place. Replacing it is your call. As long as the heatsink is mounted correctly, it really doesn't matter if the backplate is loose or stuck in place. Sticking the backplate simply makes mounting the heatsink easier to manage.

Apple's decision to include just a single port on its new 12-inch MacBook provoked the ire of many, and perhaps rightfully so. Adapters are the obvious answer for devices lacking a USB Type-C interface but what if you have multiple...

A:Single USB-C port? No problem. InfiniteUSB-C is a viable solution to the MacBook's limitation

I'll bet Apple is kicking themselves right now for now making this little device themselves.

I feel bad for Apple users though... having to spend extra money to get what should be basic functionality.

I'm in deep doggy-doo.

When my 2TB Sata-III drive wasn't being recognized (ported to a new build), I pulled the data cable off to check the connection and off came the little plastic tab that guides the plug onto the pins!

Without it, there is nothing to press contact between the cable & pins, let alone hold the cable firmly in place.

Worse, I can't even plug it in to rescue the data off it! I suspect I must have damaged the connection somehow when I plugged it in. The pins appear fine (within reason considering what happened.)

Gluing the tab back in place is no help if the connection still doesn't work and I need to unplug it again.

Am I screwed or is there a way around this mess (short of paying hundreds to some recovery service)?

A:Plastic tab on SATA drive port broke off

Oh boy do I know the feeling, I once pulled off the same thing from a month old mobo, but I was able to find a replacement in a shop and soldered it back, maybe you can do the same ? Try finding a female SATA and soldering the other end of it to the HDD ?

I currently have 2 x 4GB sticks to equal 8GB but I want to upgrade to 16GB total. Initially I was going to buy the same 2 x 4GB sticks again since I have 2 RAM slots spare, but then I read about dual channel/quad channel etc and basically want to know if it would be better to add 2 more 4 GB sticks, or buy 2 x new 8GB sticks. Thinking performance wise, the price isn't too different.
I have MSI Z77A-GD55 mobo, and my RAM is Kingston 8GB 1600MHz DDR3

Thanks in advance for advice

A:Upgrading my RAM, better to add, or replace?

For DDR3 there is no quad channel, either way would work fine, go for the cheaper.

I have an old router. It's a D-link DIR-625. Lately it seems like browsing on my laptop and tablet have been sluggish. Could it be wearing out or has technology passed it by? I'm wondering if I should replace it.

A:When to replace a router

There are numerous other things that could effect Internet traffic. Of the most common in my area is bad service from ISP (bad lines or equipment).

Resetting your router could help if it is the router causing the issue. Simply unplugging it is not enough to do a full reset of all settings.

What does running http://www.speedtest.net/ state your connection rate is and does it match what you are paying for?

Hey all,

This is my first time trying to port forward anything and I'm having trouble finding a guide for my router the bell homehub 2000 (sagemcom fast 5250). If anyone has experience with this router, some help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to port forward for my xbox one.

UPDATE: ok so I went ahead and did some more reading using a guide for a linksys router and attempting to translate it to mine. From my understanding I have to set a static ip address on my xbox one and then open the specific ports through my router settings, can anybody confirm this?

I recently bought several Dell Optiplex GX computers online for repair I usually do a thorough review of what I am getting but this was a a with VGA Help DVI-D on port computer monitor using a cheap deal on a big lot and a few things slipped by me For one it takes a special power cord that I can t find for less than and there were none Help using a VGA monitor with a DVI-D port on computer with the lot I ordered one to test them with for now but that is not my main problem but if anyone knows where I can get those DA- adapter power cords any cheaper please let me know where My main problem is that these are the small form factor cases so they have no card slots I am dependent upon the motherboard options only So here is my problem the only connector for a monitor on the back of the computer is for a DVI-D which would be great if I had monitors with those connections The only connections I have on my monitors are the VGA I bought some adapters from e-bay that were supposed to convert the DVI port to the VGA which the connector did but I have no screen using this adapter and I am thinking that I was cheated Can this even be done this way I have always just changed the video card but this computer has no way I can see to do that it is all in the motherboard Does anyone know what I can do here I put a fresh install of io xp pro on several of then since that is what they came with They only have pentium s with hyperthreading and single core processors and I didn t think windows would help any If anyone knows what I can do to use these VGA monitors please tell me because without being able to put a video card in it I am lost sincerely cableman nbsp

A:Help using a VGA monitor with a DVI-D port on computer

Your best bet for Global spares is www.pchub.com.

As to the DVI to D-Sub you did the right thing in buying an adapter. It should work period. Did you get the joblot from eBay? Was it sold as untested? Are the PCs even powering on? Maybe there are issues with memory/cpu/motherboard....

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx620/en/ug/A02/solve00.htm#wp1286323

Yes you have to be very careful when upgrading the CPUs for this unit as they follow a narrower roadmap. Top line CPU would appear to be a Pentium D3.4Ghz which worked in a GX620 usff with bios revision A11.

Good luck!

Yes it has, the motherboard in question has a "PCI-x16" which means that all and any new graphics card (GPU) should fit. However, you may want to check what power supply (PSU) you have since new GPU might require more power.

Any suggestions and will it improve my performance

A:How often should I replace my thermal paste?

As long as the temps are not too high there will not be any performance loss. I wouldn't worry about replacing thermal compound, unless you are experiencing temperature issues.

If you are wondering what your temps are. Download Core Temp and watch your CPU temps.

Not sure if you cover this, but I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580, but am not sure how to open up the ports. I have searched all over the web for advice on this, but no one seems to have a screenshot that looks like mine. My problem is, that my brother and I play the game together, so when I go in to open the ports do I start with hims IP address, since the ending number is lower than mine, and then how far out should I go.I'm including a screenshot, so you will see what I mean. Also, it asks for an external ip address. I have mine, haven't gotten his, but if they're different, how do I adjust for his. Or do I have to open the same ports for both machines? My Cisco router was not this complicated, but the surfboard is our router and modem and takes up less space. If anyone understands what I'm trying to do, please answer back. When we're online on the game together, we lag terribly. We can play separate games online without a hitch.

A:Port Forwarding

The typical problem is the PUBLIC ip-addresses for you/bro can change overnite.

what you see with IPCONFIG is your local lan address, not the PUBLIC address given to your router by the ISP

A recent power outage has caused some of my hardware to function oddly...
My tv's hdmi ports seem to still work for say a ps3, but when hooking up to my gtx 760 I get "No Signal"?
I only have one hdmi port but several other dvi ports. My smaller monitor(plugged into dvi port 1) is functioning normally. It also seems the gpu is still functioning because I booted Dota 2 just fine with 60fps(vsync). Could this outage have fried the hdmi port? Should I be worried, should I return it or just buckle down with 2 dvi connectors? I was gonna test out hdmi to dvi cables to test my theory but am unsure what to do otherwise.

I have a HP a1020n Pavilion I use to do audio reconditioning on, it's running WinXP. I've maxed the memory and have a terabyte drive installed already. My question is; should I bother to try to upgrade to Win7 and add a DirectX 9 video card and a better audio card to replace the onboard chip or just junk it and buy something newer with Win7 packaged with it? I've read one thread here by someone trying to install an upgraded video (Upgrading video card on HP Pavilion a1020n with ATI Radeon X1600 Pro PCI-e) and it doesn't paint a very good picture of trying to do any of this. Any thoughts/advice are appreciated.

A:To Replace or Upgrade?

It isn't worth the money to upgrade in exchange for the performance increase you would get.

What do you audio reconditioning with? What software? Potentially you could scrap XP, install Linux and use Audacity. Only costs you your time, no money.

I've done a fair bit of audio reconditioning of speeches recorded on cassette tapes with Audacity.

Hi there, I purchased an edifier mh 1370 multimedia speaker a while back it has been working fine. I took it to a mates place for a birthday party and when I brought it back to mine and connected it up, it seems that the right speaker out port does not work.. I've plugged the right speaker into the left port and vice versa and both speakers work so it's definitely not the speakers. I've checked my audio software and properties nothing has changed. I've checked the 3.5mm audio connecting cable. I mean all I did was bring it to a party let it run for about 9hours I think and came back used it and the right speaker port doesn't work Would it be an internal problem? if so how would I fix it? I don't know anything about electronics and I really don't wanna buy a new one trying to be handy here haha....

A:Edifier 2.1 speakers mh 1370 speaker out port problem

Plug some headphones or earbuds into the jack to make sure both channels are working. If it sounds okay, your most likely problem is the wires in your speaker system - usually the 3.5 plug or the nearby wire has separated inside the insulation. I would cut the original plug off and solder in a new one from Radio Shack, if you're okay with soldering, or have a repair shop do it if you're not able to.

The LAN address of the system you want the data to go to.

It must always be the same address, so you need to make it so using

I don't think there is a port 100000. As far as I remember there are only 64k - 1 ports available per IP. This does look like where you'd do your port forwarding, but you'd need to specify the local IP address to route the traffic to.

A:"Your port is not open or not reachable."

Okay what are we working with here?

OS?
Router?
System Specs?
System OC?
System Tweaked to the Max?
System Ports Changed or on defaults? Meaning you haven't changed anything only on the Router.
Under Services.msc did you set the UPnP to auto/start/enable

In the Router make sure you have the system set to the Port you want open and IP address should be Reserved by mac address of the NIC.

Are we using any other layered firewall software?
Are you using a Proxy?
Are you using Private Browsing?

What firewall are you using on PC?

Hey guys, I have a gateway LT2016u netbook, and the charging port, if that's what you call it is broken. I think my careless teenage self would be to blame, but anyways I need to find a new port. This would be the part that's inside the computer that you plug the charger in. Can anyone help me?

A:Looking for charging port

This should do the trick:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GateWay-KAV...-WITH-CABLE-HARNESS-DC301007400-/270829133673

Double check the part looks the same as what you already have.

Power jack will give better results when you search. The good news is its a plug in one, not soldered which makes it very easy to fit.

This video shows a different model but should give you a good idea of what is involved:

Hope this helps.

Holy s*** mate, that is an extremely high end build.

The only thing I can see not working here is the two Ares GPUs. They both have water-coolers, so it might be a bit difficult to install them together.

The only thing I can say is, you better know what you are doing, or have somebody around who knows what they are doing, before you consider putting together such expensive components.

I'm a newbie to this stuff, sorry guys! (If any of this makes sense, BRILLIANT!)

I know it's an PCI-E x16 as it says that by the port itself. But what .0 version is it?

example: PCI-E 1.0 x16, PCI-E 2.0 x16 etc.

I need to know this information quite soon as I'm planning on buying the Nvidia GTS 450 (if It is compatible, other wise feel free to recommend some compatible cards.

The Card: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gts-450/specifications
The Port: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/8524755663/in/photostream/

Any reply will be greatly appreciated.

A:Which PCI-E version is this port?

I wouldn't worry about it too much, only the newer GPUs will take full advantage of the bandwidth of a PCI-E x16 2.0/3.0 slot. That being said, if you have a PCI-E x16 slot, you can put any PCI-E x16 GPU in it, unless you're spending upwards of $300+ on a GPU. Good day everyone.
I just opened case of cpu and re-pluged front usb port plug into motherboard. And then switched on pc, as I on my pc I seen that front usb port plug's red colour wire was fired. I imediately switched off the pc. I cant understand how this happened? Please tel me the reason if anybody knows.

A:Front USB port plug wire burned

Hey Krrish007. Can I ask why you opened the case. Was the USB front port working before?. I also assume the red wire wasn't discolored at that point, put you saw it after you powered up.
Are you 100% sure you plugged it into the correct pins on the mobo?.
If you disconnected the plug and power up, does the system work otherwise?

My 1TB Western Digital external drive has failed. It's out of warranty so that's not an option. After much internet research and trying many "fixes" that didn't work, I moved on to getting it out of its enclosure. But I need help on what I do next to determine if its the USB port that failed or the drive itself. This is my main backup of all my data (I know my fault for not having a backup of my backup) so I really need to get the data off of it if possible. The sticker on the drive says: SATA / 32MB Cache. My only computer is an HP Pavilion laptop. I am a novice in terms of computer hardware but can follow directions and do "techy" things pretty well. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hey guys I need some help on how to Port Forward a Router and a Modem

Im using a TP Link WR340GD Router

This is the IP on my computer

and this is for the Modem which I havent filled up yet

my isp is a bit of an *** not making me port forward..so I hacked their modem (3rd Pic)
now im kinda lost and dont know what to forward on the modem

my router doesnt have any NAT settings but the tunngle seems to have the problem with it so I opened the modem and theres teh NAT settings now please I need help on how to port forward my modem

A:Port forwarding a modem and a router

First, let's understand the setup

Code:
isp===modem----router----(1/more pc's)
Port forwarding is done in the ROUTER where the NAT support allows multiple PCs to have Internet access.
Typically, our modems only have ONE Ethernet output which is why we need the router in the first place.
Now if you have a Modem with multiple RJ45 slots, then it has NAT also, and your port forwarding gets complicated.

In addition, the machine at 192.168.1.50 needs a tweak to ALLOW IN TCP/UDP PORT 59014 FROM ANY.

The User's Guide for that router is here
So, please specify the make/model of the modem.

A:Adding a port to 3801HGV Gateway?

Do I need a new gatewayClick to expand...

NO.
you can use a HUB or a SWITCH - - the latter is a better choice. neither use an IP address.
wiring is like

Code:
(uplink.wan.port)existing.router(one.lan.port)----(any.port)new.switch(3 more ports)
If you need to add WiFi, then use the same wiring as show, but get a WiFi router. Come back here and
we will help you config that choice.

Hi guys

Hope you can help here. I'm building a box with an I7 CPU and an NH-D14 cooler. The cooler is so big it obscures the RAM stick slots, so I took it off, put the sticks in, put it back on. Given that the machine has never been switched on - it's never even made it as far as the case - and given the components are the same with the same orientation, is it really necessary to clean/remove and reapply the thermal paste?

Thanks in advance all

A:Do I need to replace thermal paste on a CPU that's never been on?

Opinions will vary, but as long as you haven't fully fitted the cooler and the thermal paste is okay then its fine to re-fit it.

It doesn't matter if the CPU has been powered, the issue is whether the thermal paste will still function correctly having been disturbed when you removed it. If you're in any doubt I'd remove, clean and add more paste.

They are not proprietary, however they are TFX form factor rather than the standard ATX form factor which severely limits your options. High wattage units are non-existent in this form factor due to size constraints.

Here are some options:
FSP Group FSP300-60GHT 300W = $35
SeaSonic SS-300TFX Bronze 300W = $43

A:Seagate external hard disk not detected in front panel USB port

Well not exactly knowing what type of a computer we are talking about here, I can only say, that what your are reporting is completely normal. Most computers I've ever touched have passive styled USB ports on the front of the computer, and aggressive USB ports off the back that can handle just about anything you can hook up to it.

So stop trying to connect that external hard drive off the front, not enough power and not enough data exchange rates. I would recommend that if you have all your USB ports off the back of the computer taken, I would start thinking seriously about an "amplified" 4 port USB HUB. Remember the HUB your looking for has it's own power source, and does not relying on the computer at all for it's power.

The following one is a good one, a friend of mine got her's about a month ago and has not yet reported any problems.

That would be the idea if you have it set to boot from disk in the system BIOS. The CD/DVD must have first priority over the HDD to boot.

I've had a Patriot - Dash flash drive for over a year now and all of a sudden it's not working. I plug it into the computer and it can't even detect it. My question is, can this problem be fixed? Does my Dash have no hope?

Not much hope there... go to the Patriot site and try their tools to recover it... but you may have damaged the drive if you have been carrying it around in your pocket. What you report makes it sound a bit hopeless.
Try patriotmemory.com, and search for Patriot Flash Support, as well as Patriot Memory downloads...

I am looking for a port replicator or docking system. I want to be able to plug my laptop into it and use my normal keyboard, monitor and mouse. It has to have dual video though. It will be a Dell inspiron latptop and Dell is no help in this case. Yes I know Dell sucks but it isn't for me it is for my boss. Any suggestions?

A:Looking for a port replicator

Dells do not suck. There are a great number of Dells with huge numbers of happy owners. Some of the cheap ones suck. And some with the wrong owners suck.
There are many port replicators, and many are sold on eBay and at Dell support sites.
But I would get my boss to buy a Dell that has a specific port replicator...
Or else I would learn how to burn my files to disk, or a backup external hard drive.
We need to know which Inspiron, age, operating system, memory, hard drive and such.
I would want to back up my data to an external hard drive, then tune up the existing install.

A:USB port on external hard drive broke. How can I access it?

Short of taking it somewhere for repair, it sounds like you're going to have to open up the case to get inside the drive. Once you've done that, you have two options:

1) If the connector is still functional you can connect it to your computer with the case removed and transfer your data, or

2) You can disconnect the bare drive from the guts in your case and connect it directly to your motherboard so that you can read the data from it.

....or purchase another enclosure of the correct size 2.5inch or 3.5inch

Good afternoon.

I have a system that is a few years old and am looking to replace the motherboard, CPU and ram. the tower has a sata HDD and a PATA optical drive but the motherbaord has fried and im looking to upgrade to a more up to date setup.

Im not after anything extreme as I dont game and im only really interested in having a decent speed for internet use and word processing other than that im not overly bothered about being super fast.

I was thinking of an AMD CPU Phenom II 555 Black Edition Dual Core Processor but would like suggestions on a motherboard that would support such a processor and not cause me a lot of problems with the HDD being compatible

My thanks for any suggestions on this topic

A:Sugestions required to replace mobo and CPU

Here are a few reccomendations:
ASRock A770DE+ (Full ATX uses DDR2) = $54
ASRock M3A770DE (Same board but uses DDR3) = $60
ASRock 880GM-LE (Micro-ATX, DDR3) = $55
ASRock A785GM-LE (Micro-ATX, DDR2) = $59

These are all good boards and have SATA and PATA support it is just a matter of what form factor you want/need and whether you want DDR2 or DDR3 memory. With DDR2 you may be able to reuse your current memory but if you want to upgrade your memory DDR3 is a better option since it is faster and cheaper. If you have not heard of ASRock they are ASUS's budget brand and tend to have allot of Legacy ports (PATA, FDD, PS2, etc.) making them good options if you plan to reuse older hardware.

Hi,

Can you help me guide on "Port Forwarding"? I tried to access my router and added ports to forward as I've seen other guides here on the net, but when I check it with "PFportchecker" Software, it said my port is not open or unreachable.

My router is D-Link DI-604.

Please Help!=(

A:D-Link DI-604 port forwarding

there's a difference between an Open Port and having access to a service On That Port.

Requirements:
the machine which has the desired program (or better said, service) must have a fixed IP address, not one assigned by DHCP
the router then forwards port xxx to that fixed address
the firewall on the target system must allow incoming traffic on that port(s)
AND the program/service must be running.

Built a computer for my son to game on. I have a MSIK8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI mobo. I have been running two Nvidia NX7600GT's. One of them blew the other night. Any suggestions on what to upgrade to? I have a 600w power supply so I think I'm pretty good there.

I'm kind of new to the building and compatibility part; so any help would be wonderful and well appreciated.

Also, probably a stupid question but here goes. I assume that since I'm running dual cards now, I will continue to run dual cards? Would like to stay with Nvidia products.

Thank you in advance!

A:Need to replace video card

From what I can remember you have a few options:

- Run single new card, Nvidia GTX 460 or the 550Ti cards would offer decent performance at a mid to lower end price range. Or spend more for the top end Nvidia offerings GTX 580, not sure their minimum PSU recommendations, but at least require 2 x PCIe Power connectors.
- Run dual cards, 1 new, 1 old 7600GT as NVIDIA® PhysX® processor, offloading that processing from the main new card.
- Bin the old working card and run 2 x New. GTX 460s are nice in SLi but all others above this can run SLi too.

Just because it is an SLi motherboard it doesn't mean you have to run 2 cards. It will happily run one card, it just has support to also run 2.

Hello and thank you Dell USB failure Dimension port c521 for reading the time to read this post About a few months ago I started to experience USB port failure Dell Dimension c521 a very strange problem with USB port failure Dell Dimension c521 my mouse--which many have described before-- it is basically erratic behavior hard to move it from left to right up down etc This occurs sometimes when batteries are low so I replaced the batteries and no luck then I tried switching the usb port of the receiver and still no luck i then concluded it was the mouse so I went out and bought a new mouse still the new mouse was ALSO acting erratically so I can only conclude that their must be some kind of problem with my USB ports I should note that I recently purchased a new laptop and the mouse functions properly on that computer so I don t believe it is a problem with the mouse The kicker is that my wireless card which is also USB related works fine And also my keyboard usb works fine so realistically I have no idea why my computer mouse is not functioning properly I have tried different mouse have tried different USB ports have the mouse working on diff computers but I can t get it to work on my main desktop consistently that is It works dont get me wrong but after some time it starts to act all weird for - minutes then works then acts weird and it makes it quite hard to game which is what I enjoy using my desktop for I realize this computer is a little old but I m not ready to completely retire it as it is still fully functional in many other respects Has anyone experienced this problem or have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it nbsp

OK, follow this guide and look for the mouse drivers and delete all of them, then reboot the PC and it should reinstall the mouse driver.

hi,

Today I burned 3 DVD-R DL and I get theses issues:

data to be burned: total 7.89 GB
all discs same brand
disk 1 just burned 0.47 GB using MagicISO
disk 2 burned 7.89 GB using MagicISO
disk 3 burned 7.89 GB using Nero Burning ROM 10

disk 1 was unable to be read it, obviously, it was an incomplete burn
disk 2 and 3 were readable but when I try to copy them to the HDD
the transfer rate was very low like 200-300 KB/s and remaining copy
time showed 7 hours.
Later I put 2 other DVD-R DL that I burned a long time ago with these results:
disk A copy 100% with transfer rate 4-5 MB/s
disk B copy was almost imposible since the transfer rate was 150 KB/s
and remaining copy time showed 1 day
So my DVD burner is in bad state?
Should I replace it ASAP?

I don't want to lose more DVD-R DL

thanks

I put the disks 1 & 2 in another PC

I have a 2-sided USB cord I want to bridge a connection to on my Windows TinyXP.

When I go to Network Connections it shows my Local Area Connection, but how would I get it to show the USB cord to show in there so that I can bridge it.

I didnt go buy any hardware. This is just a cord I've had for a while. I looked around for a bit and had trouble finding this information.

A:Can I bridge a connection with a USB port?

what you are really saying is

Code:
modem---(router)----your system---usb.connected.to.nothing
doesn't show the USB. Of course not put something on the other end
Code:

---your system---usb.connected.to.something
However, your system needs the Internet Connection Sharing enabled,
the USB connection on your system needs to have an Ethernet feature,
and the other device needs the same kind of USB/Ethernet device.

The USB slots on your systems will not do networking without using a USB/Ethernet adaptor and installing the drivers.

I'll post my computer spec later.

A:One VGA port, two LCD monitors on a laptop with a dead screen

If you're talking about a VGA-to-VGA splitter, I think you'll only be able to get two instances of the same screen to show up.

If you're talking about a different port that can handle more data, you might be able to get this set-up to work. I know the computers we use at work have a video output port that has an adapter that splits into two VGA ports (or two DVI ports, depending), and we use that for a dual-monitor set-up (which everyone in the office has).

I have a computer case and it has this pretty blue lite fan in the front but the down side is as of recently it makes a lot of noise. A ton on boot up and then it calms to about half the noise but none the less still loud. I'm looking to buy a replacement, hopefully one that is silent, problem is that I don't know the first thing about PC case fans, how to replace them, how to tell which is a good replacement. I also don't know what kind of case I have so I can't look it up and just figure out the fan size that way.

Help would be appreciated.

A:Looking to replace noisy case fan

Fans are really a 'you get what you pay for ' proposition. The key is in the bearing type. sleeve, rifle, ball FDB (fluid dynamic bearing) HDB, etc. generally if you wnt quiet, choose one that is not a 'hyper fan' in that it moves a massive amount of air, or one that comes with a controller so you can adjust the speed a 120 mm fan for example will typically move arounfd 45-60 CFM. For longer life stay away from 'sleeve' bearings.

I'm trying to port forward but I'm failing at it. So I have a Netgear WGR614 Router, and a Westell 610015 Modem. I gave myself a static IP, then tried port forwarding, didn't work. So I tried setting it to bridge mode, but it won't let me back on the internet. BUT, I can't use bridge mode because I have 3 other computers in the house that use wireless. So is there any other way to port forward? Thanks in advance.

A:Netgear port forwarding

You don't need bridge mode, but guess you've alread regressed back to infrastructure mode.

For the setup
Code:

modem===router - - - wired or wireless connections
a) disable any WiFi on the modem itself
b) this forces connections to the router
c) place your port forward in the router ->to->the static IP address of the system dessired.

What 'service' are you port forwarding? Sometimes there are more than just one port required

Not really necessary, DVI carries the same video signal as HDMI ... just no audio. You can use a DVI to HDMI cable for your connection.

I recently bought a Radeon HD 5670 video card and upon installation realized I need a different cable than the one I am currently running from my monitor "emachines LE1799" to my motherboard. I will not be running more than one monitor, so can I buy the HDMI cable? Will that be the best option to connect the card to my monitor? Or will the DL-DVI be superior?

I've read similar threads, but I have not found an answer to my particular question.

I have a Fujitsu desktop, runs on windows XP and the USB ports were disabled by my kid! (Both the keyboard and mouse connect via USB).

I considered getting a USB PS/2 converter in order to use the keyboard to re-enter BIOS at start-up (holding down the Delete key, as it says to do on screen at start-up). Unfortunately, there is no PS/2 port.

There is an auxiliary port that may be similar (it has 11 or 12 pin hole openings).

Any help would be very appreciated!

I am a noob, so please explain any jargon please!

Thanks!

A:Power surge on hub port?

Some people have experienced the same kind of problem. The problem can sometimes be solved by disconnecting some USB-devices (if any). As for the message not working, I have no clue why it does exactly squat.

The discussion referred to below might give you some answers on the surge;
http://forums.cnet.com/7723-7590_102-52185.html#message1533531

However I think your Blackberry tries to charge itself using the port interface, causing the surce. Perhaps some setting can alter this in the Blackberry itself?

HI,

Would there be any power or graphic card support problem?
Please consider that i have little detailed knowledge about computers

A:Want to replace integrated graphic card on a HP desktop

as a rule of thumb, i like to use at least a 450-500w power supply for any video card that requires external power directly from the power supply (minus the enthusiast grade cards of course, which will require more). you may be able to get away with a 400w unit with the 5570 but i don't know the power requirements off the top of my head. is there any specific reason you are looking to upgrade the graphics?

i would like to point out though that for an extra ~$75-90 you could get a 5770 which would be much more powerful than the 5570.

Um first specs I guess NVIDIA Vanta Vanta LT Antec SL out and help replace working, what need Computer stopped to figuring what happened S -Watt Power Supply I think Case looks like this http www antec com Believe it product php Type Mg amp id Njcw Samsung SP N GB No clue Computer stopped working, need help figuring out what happened and what to replace about the rest instruct me on finding out Ok so here s what happened It was running fine Computer stopped working, need help figuring out what happened and what to replace and then it shut off Descriptive I know The first time it crashed was on Saturday after a Realtor came in and had a look around the house I was on it for a couple hours Computer stopped working, need help figuring out what happened and what to replace and then I shut it off for dinner I went back on and I think about minutes later it shut down By shut down I mean sudden no warning Power outage kind of thing I think I waited a while and then I tried it again and it worked for the rest of the night The next day and after that it got worse lasting anywhere between seconds lol died half-way through the start-up beep and I guess hours Now today the longest it would run is about seconds I have no idea why it s doing this Help with diagnosing the problem is greatly needed For a little background information This is not the first time it has randomly shut down like this Before at night I would shut off the power bar for the computer because all the little lights irritate me I love total darkness when I m sleeping The next morning it would run for a little while and then shut off unless I waited after turning on the power supply again I have since stopped doing this so unless it s coming back to haunt me I don t think it s the problem even though the symptom is the same Actually the last time I ever did that was not-so-recently now about a couple of weeks ago and when I turned it on it very nearly literally exploded The first morning I heard cracks and snaps and I figured they were coming from somewhere else no hearing aids on in the morning and they stopped and it ran fine The next morning I had my hearing aids on this time and I realized that the noise was indeed coming from my computer I peeked inside it I leave the one side off because the fan gets too noisy with it on just in time to see a horrific flash accompanied by an especially loud crack I can t remember exactly what I did I was too startled to remember but I think I switched off the power bar to turn my computer off it stopped loading but was still running turned the bar back on but didn t touch my computer for a couple hours o o In case you re wondering the flash came from somewhere in the top right corner of the inside of my computer which I now realize is where the plug connecting the motherboard and the power supply is I have since had a peek at this and it seems completely undamaged Another possibility why this is happening the other one being something is shot is a virus Well I honestly don t know Do viruses randomly shut off your computer I do admit I probably could use an upgrade in terms of anti-virus I currently only have had the free Avira My brother suspected over-heating but it crashed after seconds this morning after it had been off all night and nothing ever felt hot in there before and I leave the side off Um that s all the relevant incidents information that I can think of I ll gladly try and get you more information since I realize this probably isn t enough especially in terms of the specs Just realize that if it requires running the computer I ll be lucky to get minutes out of it If I had to guess I d say something is up with the motherboard or the power supply So I realize that fixing this probably means replacing some parts something I was planning on doing soon anyway If anyone wants to suggest products I need the input I for sure want to replace the case My current one will have the fan going nuts within minutes of running so I have... A:Computer stopped working, need help figuring out what happened and what to replace

AT this point, it could be anything... and you have not yet told us the brand, model, and configuration so it is difficult to guess as possibilities. Need hard drive brand and age, etc. as well.
Is your 1 GB of RAM in one module or two... if two, remove one to test, then change, and remove the other module and test.
Why did you suspect the video card?

Right now im using a modem that i got from AOL.

SpeedTouch ST585 v6

Every so often is will randomly reset, a hardware fault which ivsearched all over the internet. Upgrading the firmware makes no diffrence at all. Recently, my internet cuts off but all the lights are still light at normal, i tried dissabling the adaptor and yet the ethernet light stayd light. So my problem is deffinatly in my router.

My questions are...

If i buy a new modem on my own, will it still work for my ISP?
What is a good modem to replace my current one?

[Requirements:

I recently bought an adapter to convert component video adapter does DVI fit on monitor in DVI not port to DVI so I could plug my Xbox into the back of my monitor to use that instead of TV So I DVI adapter does not fit in DVI port on monitor got this DVI plug and I plugged the male ends of the component into the back of this Component to DVI adapter and then tried plugging it into the DVI port on DVI adapter does not fit in DVI port on monitor the back of my monitor for some reason though it doesn t work DVI adapter does not fit in DVI port on monitor as in it doesn t fit in there I know it s a female end on the monitor because I m using it right now for my PC but why would it not fit into it half of it the adapter fits in so I know it s the female end Is there more than one type of DVI port out there with different amounts of pins meaning they d fit in specific DVI ports If I can t do that for whatever reason would it be possible to just plug it the back of my graphics card and run it through my hardware instead because I ve got an extra DVI slot available nbsp

A:DVI adapter does not fit in DVI port on monitor

It sounds like you are trying to connect DVI-D to DVI-I
Take a look at this wiki page and under "Connectors" you will see the various layouts.

Hi.

I'm looking for a switch that has 10+ ports and has DHCP.
I need one for a LAN party. DHCP seems to need little configuration, so its sort of like plug and play. What switch do you recommend that meet my criteria?
Also, is there anything specific I need to know about setting up properly?

Thanks.

A:10+ port switch with DHCP?

You can pickup a 16-port gig switch or fast (100mbps) and then put all those boxes on static IP and the default gateway can be the lead PC. This way you don't need DHCP if your just doing a LAN Party and not a WAN to LAN Party. If you're doing WAN to LAN party then pickup a Wireless N/Gig Router and connect that into 16-port gig switch. Leave the IP address set to Obtain and then you would be good to go.

I have a seven year old presario 2511EA laptop. She works but she is slow. Norton 2010 running on it does not help. Is there any to speed her up such software, changing cpu speeds ( currently 2.4Ghz P4) or replacng either memory, cpu or whole motherboard ?

A:Should/can I replace motherboard/memory/CPU Presario 2511EA

Motherboard replacements that fit that case are also slow. You are limited by the maximum of 1 GB of pc2700 memory in two 512 MB modules... and it is the memory that makes the biggest difference... Not the CPU speed.
You cannot find a motherboard that will be faster and still fit all the ports and plugs on the case... There are some mighty decent laptops that will be much faster and run at least 2 GB of memory that would be a better choice... Dell, some Acer, Lenovo, Asus... as well as newer Compaqs or HP's.
Prices will be low for the rest of the summer after high school and college graduations are over... and some sellers will give you a significant discount to reduce inventory. The prices will go back up, but with new models that are faster and run 4 GB of memory or more.
Treat yourself to a Windows 7 machine with the potential to run 4 or 8 G B of memory... a quality build will last you anlother seven years.

I used my LG HDTV as my monitor so i used a HDMI connection between the TV and the tower of my PC Within the last week though i would be sitting surfing the internet and busted port M1100? HDMI Acer Aspire on the screen would either freeze with HDMI port busted on Acer Aspire M1100? crazy lines across it or the picture would totally cut out I d cut the power to the PC and start it up again Sometimes it took a good two or three times to get it working Usually it would start and i d see the white Acer screen but again with crazy lines through it and it wouldn t move The night before last I shutdown my PC and a few hours later started it up This time nothing happened at all I could hear that the PC itself had started up like the beep when i turned it on and the keyboard lights flashing and the fans on etc In the TV input menu it still registers that there s a HDMI connection but as i said there s no picture I assume that it s the HDMI port that s the problem but was just wondering if my assumption was right and if it was how much it would be to get repaired Thanks in advance nbsp

I think I killed the Rear Audio jack on my motherboard.

A week ago, I ran a 25' cable from the Rear audio port of my motherboard (Realtek audio) to the stereo behind me for Surround Sound. Worked great for a week, but today it is dead (all other speakers still work fine).

I tried testing with another OS, and same thing. Other speakers play fine. Rear Audio port dead. Checked the cables, checked the speakers. All okay.

Q: Did I kill my Rear Audio jack by using too long a wire? Is there a sound card I can purchase that wouldn't be ruined by a 25' cable?

A:Can you burn out an onboard audio port?

Solved: Kitty did it.

After a bit of inspection, I discovered Kitty chewed through BOTH speaker wires.

Never mind.

Running XP Pro, If I replace the motherboard, will I have to reinstall XP? I am tyring to do this as painless as possible. If there is a way, Please help.

A:Need To Replace Motherboard

It's always best to do a clean install of your OS when changing the motherboard in order to prevent any sort of driver / hardware conflict.

However, there are ways to avoid a full install of the OS. Read through the following links:
