I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Problem solved. I uninstalled all UMTS dial in software, rebooted the computer and now it works again.
No idea what led to this. I did not install anything related to dial in software since I have installed Windows 8 on this machine.

Hi guys

how can I find out, if my D620 has got a UMTS/HSDAP modem integrated ?

There is a slot for a mobile sim card under the battery. When I put my Vodafone UMTS Simcard in, nothing happenes.

It would be cool if I wouldn´t need a USB modem Stick like most others need.

Please help !

How can I activate it ? What drivers do I need for windows 7 32bit ?

I have searched high and low for an answer and am at a loss as to how to fix this issue. I have a u300 modem that with smart view or just drivers seems to work fine directly hooked to my computers. However when try to attach to the cradlepoint router it recognizes the modem however it shows it as off line and network miss configured.

Both modem and router have up to date firmware. I have used 3 different ctr500 routers with the same result. And yes it is compatible according to cradlepoint. And yes I have tried to connect another usb device that a friend had and it connected with no problems.

My service provider is melinicom who is a reseller for the sprint network and yes the device is a sprint franklin u300 device

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Everyone,

I can't seem to access my Westell 2200 from the usual address: 192.168.1.1
I can't remember if I may have changed any settings to have this happen. I know my DLink 634m has no addresses with 192.168.1.1 configured with it.

I've even tried connecting the modem directly to a computer to access it and no luck. I've already done the "hold reset for 10 seconds". Is there another way to do a hard reset so everying on the modem is factory default? Is there another way around this? I can't access my modem and I can't get Internet either.

Thanks in advance

A:Modem Problem: Error Message

Windows Version? Modem model and make? My best guess at this point is a bad driver at this point. Go into the device manager and see what it says under "Modems" or "Comunication" etc, see if there is a conflict or something similar.

My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.

In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there any way to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901?

Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection. I am using Windows 7.

Thanks!

Perhaps a really skilled electronics engineer or technician could take it apart, separate the modem from the router portion and add an ethernet WAN port.

Not really. The ADSL router doesn't have the correct WAN interface. You need a standard router with an Ethernet WAN connection.

I am attempting to configure PC-Alarm and Security System. Part of this program allows for notifying me via cell phone if one or more of the residence smoke alarms have gone off, alarms for the doors, or someone is attempting to gain access to our home computer. Hi,

I'm trying to establish some kind of network between two computers using a direct modem to modem connection. I know there are some other options out there, but my team and I are specifically looking into this kind of implementation due to certain parameters of the project.

Basically, I want to use software like UltraVNC to be able to control a remote computer with my host computer. Neither computer will have access to the internet and are connected via two external modems. Can anyone give me the step by step procedure for this and how it is done?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Easiest way I can think of for something similar would be 2 NICs and a crossover cable to direct connect the two PCs.

I don't know the model or the type. The stuff I put in when installing it in the control panel(it was already physically installed in the computer, but wasn't dialing) is a bunch of guesses.

This is all the info I have about a modem that refuses to work right:

"Port: COM1" - I set it up that way when intalling through the control panel and I have no idea if that's how it should be set up.
"Interrupt: 4
Address: 3F8
UART: NS 16550AN
Standard 56000 bps V90 Modem" - Again, I set the bold part up when installing via the control panel and have no idea if that's set up right.

"Identifier: USRK2_Gen"

I googled the identifier and found that it was a USRobotics modem, but that's all I know about it.

Hi

I am trying to install a new ethernet modem/router to replace my speedtouch usb modem given to me by Orange.

However when I power down unplug the old usb modem and plug in the new ethernet modem/router nothing happens. I have gone to network connections and clicked on LAN and clicked obtain an IP address automatically. Within network connections I also have the Orange connection which I have also tried doing it on.

Am I being completely stupid here? Can I not use the new modem/router that doesn't belong to Orange?

The modem/router I have is a D-Link G624T.

If someone could give me some advice I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

PS I have also tried using the IP gateway thing and it just says the page cannot be displayed...

Do you have a user name/password for that account? You normally have to program the WAN section of the modem/router with that information to get a connection.

Hey, I am trying to install a USB WWAN modem on my Vista laptop (2.33 ghz, 2 gb ram) and when i follow the instructions on the software provided, it says to insert the usb modem and let windows recognize it and install it, and go from there.

the problem is, once i put in the usb drive, vista recognizes that there is a new device in, but once it tries to install it, it won't recognize any drivers on the disc thats inserted, and doesn't find anything on the rest of the computer.

the modem has been successfully installed on two XP machines, and one mac, so i know that its possible to do, but its not letting me do it on my laptop...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

A:USB modem WWAN modem won't install in Windows Vista

I would say check the mfg website and see if you cant find some updated drivers for it or even check google and see if anyone has "hacked" the XP drivers into working with Vista. I know that Vista's been having lots of issues with past and current third party products and so it could just be that your modem is incompatible with Vista or you just need to look a bit more for newer drivers.

Hello Guys,

HOw Can I connect Internet of my Wireless Modem to The Wifi of nokia siemens SL2_141 Modem.I have Attached A photo So that U ppl Understand properly..

Pls, Help me out with this Problem
OS-Window 7 (32bit)

A:Connect a Wireless Modem to ADSL modem for Wifi

The "nokia siemens SL2_141" is a modem/wireless router combo; I assume that "A Wireless Modem of MTS" is also a modem/wireless router combo.

If my assumption is correct you can use the Nokia as an ethernet switch and wireless access point ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. [You will not need a cross-over cable if one of the "routers" is a computer.] Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

For reference, here's a link to a Typical example config using a Netgear router

First of all let me start off by saying that my modem is defective and overheats so i lose my dsl sync every hour. Found out it was defective by numerous hours of scouring the forums. Anyways i recently found a router/modem combo and was wondering if i could just use it solely as a modem seeing as that i already have a wireless router.

So like the title says, i used to have a Cable modem internet in my house a while ago, then i asked the company for a DSL connection, they never asked for the old Cable modem so at the moment i have both modems working, my question is, is there any way to put them together so i get the speed from each modem put into a single network?

I just bought a new 56k modem because from my desktop I was only able to connect at 28.8k. With both of my laptops I'm able to connect from the same wall jack and the same ISP at speeds between 48k and 50k. But from the desktop I'm stuck at 28.8k, every time I connect.

Hi - I have a wireless cable modem from Time Warner in my bedroom and the signal was really weak in the living room, so I ran an ethernet network cable through the aprtment and hooked it up to the line in on a TP-LINK TL-WR841N modem. Could someone suggest how I set up the tp link to use the other wireless modem's network? I'm kind of new to this but can work my way through. Will it have the same network name and ip? Thanks for any help!

Hello,
I have a BSNL wireless modem having inbuilt router. The modem has some DSL problem and cannot use the ethernet port to connect to my desktop. So I bought a new Baton DSL modem without wifi facility.

I now need the WIFI connectivity to connect with my phone for browsing net.

For that I connected the Ethernet port of new DSL modem with the old BSNL wifi modem and applied the following configuration.

I changed the IP address of router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2

But I get only WIFI connection to connect to phone and not correctly getting the connection on desktop through the ethernet.Sometimes i get the connection and sometimes the connection lost.

I attached some images here.

pls help me to fix the problem.

Thanks & Regards

A:How to configure wifi modem having router with DSL modem ?

Hi there,

On the second router, DHCP needs to be disabled and assign a fixed IP within the router's IP scope (with Wi-Fi capability) i.e. 192.168.1.3 (make sure that 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.3 will be in the IP exclusion list).

So I am updating my churches network and came to a setup I have never seen before No one at my church knows anything about the setup except when they built the addition about years ago they ran quot a bunch of Cat quot They ran - jacks in every room I have a closet full of about cat cables of which only actually have RJ s on them and only of Router Modem Modem, to what....? back to Switch to which actually go to a computer That stuff I was able to figure out What perplexes me is the hardware setup I have seen modem to router to switch This install has a Comcast Modem with a built in port router lines go to separate magic jack pro Modem to Router to Switch back to Modem, what....? jacks One is a straight cable to a wireless linksys router The last is a straight cable to a port switch There is then a crossover cable from the wireless router to the switch as well So on the switch port goes direct to the modem and port is a crossover to the router and back to the same modem I can figure out for the life of me why there is a loop going on here In either case the setup worked So the duplicate line did not have an issue I am so lost nbsp

A:Modem to Router to Switch back to Modem, what....?

I would disconnect the cable going from the switch back to the modem/router combo. You're right. This loop is not proper. Loops should never exist on a switched network. I'm curious as to whether traffic is being forwarded around the network properly or if the switch being used has spanning tree support and might have shut down one of the ports wired up to the upstream network device.

Hi tecchies,

I'm stuck with having to use an ISDN modem at one office whilst connecting from another office.

Can I use a PSTN modem to call an ISDN modem? I appreciate the speed limitations of doing this, just wondering if it possible.

Unfortunatly, I cannot have ADSL on site and the communications is initiated from the PSTN office (meaning I cant use ISDN dial up Internet).

Thanks in advance.

Likewise PC No.1 can dial PC No.2 but PC No.2 can dial PC No.1 but always gets the 'Engaged' tone. I want both PC's to 'See' each other and to be able to share files (I have already shared the relevant directories). I can 'Ping' each PC (both ways) successfully but dont seem to be able to connect or share in a particular direction i.e. PC No.2 looking at PC No.1. What am i doing wrong that prevents me setting the system up as a sharing network?

Able to connect wirelessly to internet through DSL modem fine. Desktop that connects to DSL modem via ethernet cable has lost its connection - had been working just fine (have not changed any physical connection since network connection dropped). Cannot ipconfig as no connection to modem. Light just blinks where plugged into modem. Happened once before and it was some controller or other than needed to be reinstalled, however, nothing on the device manager is currently showing red. Have tried deleting and reinstalling for the network connections on desktop to no avail. Any ideas? (compaq presario sr1475cl running xp sp2) Thanks in advance

A:DSL modem compatible with Embarq 660 modem?

speaking in the UK
a lot of isps like to insist on using there modem/routers and will only provide support to you if you have there router / modem, in some cases, you can get a better price from the ISP....

Some dont care what you put on and also offer support .... Theres quite a few in the UK, ukonline, pipex

sounds like Embarq is one of those, you have to have our equipment or we will not give you any support

Can't the DSL is the input and ALL connections to the device will (internally) use the router portion. The bandwidth you see is NOT restricted by the internal router however - - it's the DSL itself.

A:Connects with DSL Modem - Not with Cable Modem

It sounds like the Network Adapter in the HP is defective. The stall before the balls coalescing indicates a problem with hardware.

If all computers except the HP connect to the modem on the same cable (a 192 address indicates Ethernet connection) then you can assume the modem is OK and remove it from the equation.

If other computers connect to the modem using different cables then you might suspect the cable.

You could try uninstalling (removing from Device Manager) and reinstalling the Network Adapter. It should reinstall automatically on the next startup.

It might also be interesting to see what happens if you disable the device, to see if the startup stall disappears. You could disable it in Device Manager, but if you can disable it in the BIOS that would be an even better test.

A:Unique Q: USB Huawei Wireless Modem to feed house via Belkin Wireless N Modem Router

You enable Internet Connection Sharing on the internet connection and configure the Belkin as follows.

I'm switching from AT&T U-verse to Comcast since comcast can offer speeds up to 5x faster.

As you might know At&T uses ethernet as incoming signal vs. Comcast that uses 75 ohm cable.

I need to buy a new modem and router to install the new Comcast service.

I have two questions:

1) What is better? the combo modem/router units (i.e. Motorola SBG6580) or buying a separate stand-alone modem Motorola 6141 modem + Netgear N750 wireless router)?

2) I do have one issue to overcome. I have one TV in my house that is wired for cable only. That is, it has a cable run going to it. It's too difficult for me to install an ethernet run to it, so I'm stuck having to use the cable run. Are there modem/routers that have a cable OUT so that i can feed this TV its hard-wired signal?

Thanks,
bob

I honestly don't know if this is a driver problem or not but I can find nowhere else to post this.
Have a USB modem - latest driver. CID-capable. Problem is, CID info displays rarely - 1-2 calls a week. For all other calls, all I get is 'unknown name, unknown number.' My landline shows CID info for EVERY call. Because CID does display properly for the rare calls, I doubt it is a driver problem but I know nowhere else to look. I can't associate the successful calls with any variable (e.g., open apps).
How do I troubleshoot this?

A:modem error

whats the make and model number of the modem?

Is your computer answering when the phone rings?

Maybe its picking up before the modem can read the information, delay the pickup.

Is your computer awake when the call comes in or is it asleep?

I don't understand what you have done. Here is a way to "reset."

Reset router to factory default settings. Unplug modem and router and shut down computers.

Connect the modem to router's WAN (Internet, modem) port and connect a computer to a router LAN port.

Plug in modem; plug in router; boot computer. You should now be able to login to the router. If you have cable you should also have internet access. If you have (A)DSL you probably need to configure the WAN for PPPoE and your account/password.

And, you should be able to configure the wireless now.

Im connecting to the internet via router, which also sets my home network. Sometimes i wil get an error message in FF when trying to view a page, reading:

"error 797 a connection to the remote computer could not be established because the modem was not found or was busy"

I click cancel, and i will appear again in a popup a few times but the page loads fine. I googled it and it seems to be connected to a modem error, but im using a router, no modem or dialup. Its reaally annoying having it appear like that, ive no idea whats going on.

Any ideas? A diapup connection was once installed on this machine but tis disabled now :S

Thanks!!!

I just installed XP pro on a Dell inspiron 5100 and I cannot install the driver for the pci modem BCM v.92 56k modem. when i try to, i get an error that 'no compatible hardware found'. please help.

A:PCI modem error

If you do not use the modem, and do not expect to (do you have high-speed internet ?), I'd yank the modem out and toss it into the trash.

Otherwise, you possibly have the wrong modem drivers. I assume the error message is coming from a driver installation program.

Dell can give you the exact driver for your computer if you input the service tag number, etc... at their driver page. Did you do this, or find the driver some other way ? If you do not use dial-up, I wouldn't waste time messing with it. I remove and throw away the modems from as many computers as I can, as a means of reducing the number of possible future problems.

Since recently, when I try to connect to the internet using my modem, I get Err 630: The port was disconnected due to hardware failure. My modem had worked up until this point. I tried reinstalling my modem manually by installing the COM5 port (the one the modem is connected to) and then choosing that as the modem port. However, whenever I try to go to the modem diagnostics it says "couldn't open port." I have tried everything I can think of and I would really like my modem back...please help!

A:Modem Error 630

sounds like your modem is dead. this can happen due to surges or electrical storms that would have fried the card, or it can just be old and came to end of its life. chances are you will have to purchase a new modem, i would recommend doing some diagnostics on the modem to confirm hardware failure. what is the make and model of the modem you are using?

I'm on a XP SP2 computer, and am having a problem with modem connection to the Net. When I turn on the computer (my modem is always switched on prior to bootup or the computer can't detect it), I can connect fine, no problems. If I try disconnecting and re-connecting within a short period of each try (a few minutes), it seems to work fine too.

However, if I disconnect, then do something else for sometime (work on Word, do a virus scan, etc etc), if I try to dial-up again later, the Error 692 message comes up. I cannot reconnect again unless I reboot. I've tried going to Device Manager -- Network Adaptor and turning off the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in case it was this, but it didn't make any difference. Can anyone help, please??

Initially thought the modem was shot on computer. Inserted new modem & win98se auto recognized. Went into control panel, modems and cannot bringup the modem in diagnostics (com4) Error message is error 630, OPEN COMM com error. How can I tell what is tying up this modem. I tried using phone dialer to test modem and it gives me an error that the modem is in use. I've ended everything in task manager except explorer. autoexec.bat only shows reference to cdrom. config.sys shows files=55, buffers=30, setver & reference to cdrom. I moved modem to another pci port but it does the same thing. CMOS shows only reference to com1 &com2. Is there a way to change this modem to com1 or com2? If so, how?

I have a sudden new problem when booting up and I get a window with Error 797 saying my modem can't connect (but I am already online). All was well until my son in law set up a network between my new wireless laptop and my Windows XP desktop. He says it is a problem with my TalkTalk modem and nothing to do with my Belkin router. I think it only occurs if the laptop is not on and the desktop modem seems to be trying to find it - but I don't always want them both on. Is he right that he hasn't affected anything, and can anyone help please?

Hi everyone,
am having problem with my modem for last 4 months due to which am unable to connect through my dialup account. whenever i dial my isps no. it gives that connecting tone and when after that tone it has to connect to the isp server it just stops there and stays idle...i have to w8 for around 40-45 seconds after which my modem gives the 'Error 777: The connection attempt failed because the modem or other connecting device on the remote computer is out of order.'

i have tried reinstalling the modem drivers(the default one given in windows that i have been using for last 15 years ), tried dialing to different ISPs but no use, still the same problem.

My modem specifications:
D-Link DFM-560ES 56000bps Data/Fax/Voice (External, through COM1)

it would be very nice if anyone of u could please help me out.
Thanks

Hi all

If I forget to turn my external modem on before starting up I get an error message saying modem not found - error 797 when then trying to connect. Obviously I would rather find a quick fix around this than having to reboot remembering to turn on the modem. I have tried a couple of things, the quickest being Device Manager, selecting Modems, right clicking and choosing Scan for new hardware, which then 'finds' the modem and makes it usable, but this in itself is fairly time consuming (even after creating a desktop shortcut to Device Manager). Does anyone have any ideas on an even quicker way to 're-detect' the modem if turned on after booting up in Windows 2000. I'd be ever so grateful for any ideas.

Thanks heaps

Sue

I am not aware of any shortcuts to redetection other then the methods you have tried. Is it possible to plug the modem into you surge protector so it is switched on when all other units are supplied power or does this modem require you to power individually with every power down.
Sorry no other ideas.

Are you running any software such as "Peerguardian" or spyware/security stuff? Based on what you said about pages having 'pieces' not available it sounds as if something is running that is blocking just certain IP's and such. Some security type software will commonly do this and you have to tweak them to stop blocking certain things that come default with them. I realize you said you didn't change anything but perhaps you installed a program and didn't think of it. Hope it helps, if not we'll figure somethin else out

A:Error 721 on a CDMA modem

CD stands for carrier detect. Think of it like the answer signal. A full deffinition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Carrier_Detect. You CD is low but eventually establishes a connection. I thnk mthis indicates a noisey line that is struggling to establish a solid/noise free connection.

Can you manually dial the modem number from a landline telephone and see....

1. does the other end answer quickly?

2. how loud the high pitched tones are or does it sound noisey like a bad phone call.

It is possible on some modems to force CD high so it always thinks a connection is present. This would mean in you log the connection would happen quicker but the problem with forcing CD high means if the call drops out your modem does not report it. However you would notice internet stops responding.

In the manual for the Huawai see if there are setup commands to force Carrier Detect High.

Trying to connect to the internet via a modem on a mobile phone was and is always a bit hit and miss. Hence 3G and Broadband Dongles are a better choice. I appreciate not available in Addis Ababa.

Try forcing CD high on the modem to trick the connection into starting everytime.

Hello,
I have a problem with Windows 7 and serial AT modem which is driving me up the wall for several days..
I have installed a "Standard serial modem 33600 bits per second" which is using the COM1. Then I created new DialUp connection. Everytime I try to open the dialup connection I get the error 633 (The modem or other connecting device is already in use of not
configured up).
When I install the modem on WinXP, it works well.
Note that I have searched the internet but none of the solutions helped. There is no device on my PC which could use the COM port.  I tried to install it to another computer with Win7 but the result was the same: error 633.
Thanks for any help..

Take the computer back. If you want to try an Exterior Modem.
It doesn't matter that it's an HP brand. I used it for a while and than set it aside
because I no longer needed it.

Hey so I was messing around on my computer that has windows 7 ultimate and downloaded something online and it installed stuff I did not want. So I Uninstalled the software and now I cannot connect to the Internet. I have an ether net cable directly from a port on my wall. When I try and connect it gives an error code 651: the modem has reported an error. Every other item like ps4 and laptop connect to the Internet fine. I'm confused whether when I downloaded the thing it messed with my network settings. Please help and if you need clarification I will give it. Thanks!

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 that runs on Windows 7. I have no problem with the wireless Internet, it works great. However, when I try to plug in an Ethernet cable and go online with that, this appears: "Connection failed with error 651. The modem has reported an error." I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it as I am a novice. Years ago I was able to go online with the Ethernet, no problem. I bought a brand new cable and even used a usb Ethernet adapter, just in case. That didn't help and that's all I know to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi every one
When i dial up, i get some Error Message 633 message about COM port being used by other application or modem not configured properly.
In device manager the modem seems OK, and i dont know of any other device using a COM port. I've tried different drivers, swapping the modem around inside the case but no joy and i'm getting really annoyed now.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi and welcome

Com portrs can be used by old priinters, and a host of others things. when you go into device manager (type device manager in search) your device should be listed and not have a yellow triangle on it it should look like the pic

I have a Rockwell HCF 56k PCI modem on com3 of a 95 machine.
Plug and play finds and installs it with no problems.
But when I attempt to connect through dial up networking a message appears claiming that the modem is in use by another program or another connection.
Have checked the IRQ's and they are fine, I can see no conflicts there.
And as far as I can detect there are no other programs using it, is there something going on in the background, that I can't see.
Any ideas?

& enable modem compression.
Im having hangup problems, should these be checked or unchecked?
They are checked.

A:enable modem error control??

You can try to uncheck it to see if it resolve the issue.

What is the make and model of the modem?
Was windows 2000 an upgrade or a clean install?
Did it ever worked?
How do you replicate the issue? Where does it hang?
What you doing when it hangs?

Have you tried to uninstall the modem driver, reboot and install the updated drivers?

I keep getting error 619 and 628 when trying to connect my modem E1553. It may be windows firewall?

A:Error 619 internet modem E1553

Hi tasha24filli, welcome to 7F!

Is this your modem or are you with any type of Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

You may be trying to connect too soon before your machine is ready.

Try in this order:
Restart your computer and wait until all applications have completely loaded before trying to reconnect.
Check your modem and phone cables are connected securely.
If your problem has still not been resolved you may have to reinstall the drivers for your modem.

Upgraded from win 98 to xp now modem will not connect to internet. XP recognizes the modem ( 3 com us robotics 56K voice internal PCI ) and it dials my isp(aol) but just as it connects i get an error message "timed out". Is this most likely a driver problem or the settings on xp.

A:modem timed out error after upgrading to xp

well sound to me like you goin to have to reinstall the drivers for your moden make sure you get the later drivers from 3com
