I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It sounds to me as if you have very limited free space on your machine?
You say you ran CHKDSK - let's have a look at the result of that, (and a few other things)...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

I keep getting this message from the Action center (Win7 Home Prem) - When I click on it to open it looks for Windows updates, if it finds any I can install no problem. After reboot, the message will appear again after a few minutes and tells me "Updates were installed: Never" but if I go to Update history it shows the current updates installed successfully. Using the troubleshooter it says: Windows Update error 0x80070005 but does not fix it. I have checked the services and reset the update settings, still get the error. The system has been scanned for Virus and malware (found some and cleaned). Any suggestion greatly appreciated!

This error comes up in Action Center after logging into Windows. When I try to manually check for updates, it fails with a code 800b0100 unknown error. The PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1.

I have tried to run the System Update Readiness tool from the Microsoft website to fix but to no avail.

sfc /scannow results in Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I have attached c:\windows\logs\CBS below.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Azeworai,
The error code suggests a corrupted download of the updates. Can you try deleting the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download? This should be safe. And then try to download and install the updates again.

In the windows update history, it should give an error message. A common one is if you have the wrong date and time. I assume the internet connection is ok.

Hello,

trying to get my Windows to update. When I tell it to try, it scans for a while and them stops.

No error code, it's just in red and listed as an important message in the action center.
(Before people tell me to try in Safemode, I did, and you can't. Even though Microsoft says to try that, it's not possible )

For the past couple of weeks my check for Windows updates has been intolerably slow or never completes. An internet search revealed a couple of manual KB manual update solutions. I checked one of the recommended solutions and found that the suggested KB updates have been installed (KB3138612, KB3145739).

I don't know if the following is significant or not: so I will include it here. I installed a program named GWX Control Panel to eliminate the nagging to upgrade to Windows 10. This was installed a few months ago, and there were no noticeable negative results.

What do you recommend?

Thanks for your replies,

When I turn on my computer the"Windows could not check for updates automatically" message has been appearing for about six weeks It also says click here to check for updates now.
I click and the message tells me to restart to install most recent updates.
It lists my most recent updates as 11/14/12.
Yet when I check for my Windows Update History, all my updates are current thru today's date.

Why does this message always appear about Windows failing to update automatically, yet when I look at my updates they are all current?

I don't have that detection tool either. At least some of the office updates are available through the windows update feature. You can also navigate to the Office updates site from the windows update site. There are no problems with installing the office updates separately. In fact, I generally download only 1 or 2 updates at a time as I am on dial-up.

I'm wondering:

1. Are the updates for MS Office that are critical security things included when you do Windows Update? 4. Can doing critical Office updates (separate from whatever, if anything, that comes with Windows Update) cause any problems or conflicts with other things on your computer?

Thanks for the help!Click to expand...

1. No. You either do Windows update and Office update, or you do Microsoft update, which does both at once.

2. I think so, but I am not positive. If you need it, it will install it, or, if you decline, you may not get updates. One way to find out, try it.

3. I don't think it will do the updates without it. Again, try it. It never caused any problems for me having it.

4. I can't guarantee that, nor can anyone else. Sometimes these "hotfixes" cause problems. Wait at least a few days after release to update was my motto. If there were any problems, you may hear about them, giving you the option to wait for that "fix" and, it gives MS time to be notified and correct it. Hopefully.

For what it's worth, I always kept my XP updated, waiting a few days after the release of course.
Hope this helps.

A:88 important updates cannot install windows 8 how serious

Important enough I would say, if you are concerned about too many updates or have other concerns, you can pick and choose only security updates. Other way would be to have only important chosen to download and install. There are also some updates without which you will not be able to upgrade to W8.1. As computers are used in the internet shop, it's even more important to take advantage of any security improvement you can get your hands on.
I suppose you have set tight security on them and network, route etc. You can also ad: MCShield ::Anti-Malware Tool:: to guard against malware thru USB sticks if you allow customers to use them. Which other security measures have you taken ? AVs, soft/hard firewalls etc. ?

I have been having this problem for a couple of months now. I currently have 25 Important and 5 Optional Windows Updates downloaded onto my computer, but when I restart/shut-down, the updates fail. It usually ends with the message "Windows update failure; reverting (or reconfiguring) changes" or something like that. Then I can log in and use my computer like normal.

I have been ignoring the issue since everything was working until recently. I have started to notice things are slower (Internet Explorer, Chrome) and updates for Avast and other programs seem to get stopped before they can begin. For example, Avast is now telling me I have no internet connection, even though I am watching youtube videos while I try to update Avast.

Please let me know how to get these updates to install properly. I hope that fixing them will also resolve some of my other issues.

Thanks

I've noticed on a few systems in Windows Updates some important updates are unchecked by default, for example Internet Explorer 10 For Windows 7 x64-based systems and various updates for the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7. Why is this and should I still install them? Why would they be important but not installed by default?

A:Sometimes important Windows Updates are unchecked by default

Depends on what your Windows Update settings are like. Mine is set to "notify" only, and every since update is unchecked by default.

.NET framework is kinda like a software that is required for other software to run ... e.g. "iOS v5 or higher is required to download and install Instagram on your iPhone"

Which uninstaller did you use? The one in control panel > programs and features or something else? If programs and features you could try using the official Microsoft Fix it tool.

How to uninstall or remove Microsoft Office 2010 suites

If still having issues you can try using the free 30 day trial version of Revo > forced uninstall option.

Hey guys,

Tonight i built and set up the aforementioned Nuc pc and installed windows 7. However some of the drivers arent installing like the integrated hd 5500 graphics driver and the engine management one. These 2 pop up in my windows update as "important updates" but i get failed messages when i try and install them.

Thank you,

A:Intel NUC5i3RYH, Windows 7 Update not installing important updates

I regard Windows Update as a last resort for installing drivers, and suggest installing the drivers supplied by Intel for the board:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/83257/Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC5i3RYH

If you have had driver installs fail, it may be necessary to boot into Safe Mode and delete failed installations from Device Manager and install again if you continue to have installs fail.

I have never posted on a forum before so apologies if I am doing this wrong. The problem started when I tried to plug in my (new) iphone to my Dell pc. The device was not detected so I tried to update my itunes software - update failed and I received a Windows 7 error. After searching through multiple forums and trying to download windows utility cleaner, etc - nothing has helped. Also, if I try to run the 'Check for Updates" link on my computer - if NEVER stops searching for updates and there for I cant update anything. Not sure where to start

A:Windows Check for updates keeps running-all installation/updates fail

Let's start with the easy stuff

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hi

Noticed this month that I suddenly had a lot of important updates to install when I check Windows update. Under important updates I have the likes of:

KB3055999 - Update APN database entry for SaskTel (Canada) in Windows 8.1 and 8
KB3045634 - You cannot make a PPP connection after you reconnect a PLC device in Windows 8.1 or Windows 8

The article for both of these states: Provided as an Optional update for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1

Wondering why I have these and others listed as Important?

Thanks

Win 8.1

A:Optional updates listed under important updates

They are "only" important, so they are optional. "Critical" updates are not optional. MS-speak at its finest.

I have a very important document saved on Pinnacle Studio 14- using Windows Vista, excuse me if this is in the wrong section of the forum.

I have my file completely edited-worked a long time on it, but whenever I go to render the file it says to me "Studio program file has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I really need a solution to this problem. Im not looking to download any software- just general tips. Thanks

I have my Windows Update set to ask me before it installs anything, because I like to know what's happening on my computer, but there are certain updates that happen regularly that I'd like to let go through automatically (like Windows Defender updates). Is there a way to do this where I can allow repeat updates like the Windows Defender definitions to go through on their own, while having the computer still ask me about other ones?

Thanks!

A:Is there a way to set some Windows Updates to go automatically, but not others?

No ! The only way you can individually update is by updating manually !

Hello Everybody, Hope you all had a Good Holiday and a Happy New Year !I have my updates set to;"Windows Updates, Notify Me but don't automatically install", and have noticed my last update was 12/25/08 Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7.I think I am not getting my updates, I went to the calender schedule from BS, but am not really sure exactly how to use that ? It would be nice if there were some instructions, . . maybe there are somewhere, but I haven;t found them.I haven't gone to the Windows update page yet, but will, but first if you don't mind I'd like to get your take on this ?

A:Windows Updates, Notify Me but don't automatically install

I did get to the updates and see that the only one found is ;

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806) (x86)
My guess this looks right, although actually, at this time I'm not really sure what Framework 2. is, so I assume everything is in order, I just thought maybe for some reason the updates have skipped over me this last week, I don't know how long ago, the update it chose has been there and that it was something I needed.

Hello,

I would like Windows to automatically download and install its updates when I walk away from my machine for more than 5 minutes. How can this be set up?
Thanks for your help!

A:How to install Windows updates automatically when idle?

It doesn't look like the default settings provided by Microsoft allows for this kind of update schedule.

Windows Update Settings - Change

I leave automatic updates turned off. When I know I'm going to be away from the computer for an extended period of time I manually check for updates and select those updates I want to install. Usually takes less than 60 seconds to do a manual check and start the update process.

But there's a couple of things to consider. Some updates require a reboot to finish installing. Your computer will just sit there until you return waiting for that reboot. So you really won't be saving any time by letting the computer start installing updates after that 5 minute delay. The other major issue is if you have a lot of updates to install (say, more than 5.) There's always a possibility that installing many updates at one time could cause your computer to crash or blue screen. Many people have experienced this based on questions received at Seven Forums.

It might be better to install just a few updates at a time, keep track of the KB numbers, and reboot after each group of 3 - 5. If there are any problems you'll know which group to uninstall. Then you can install them one at a time, rebooting after each one. They'll either all install correctly or you'll know exactly which update is causing the problem. Save it for last and continue installing the next group. Yes, it's a lot slower this way but I think it offers a better update experience with a lot fewer install problems. IMHO.

Sorry for not being more help.

Can I install Windows Updates Automatically, but not restart automatically?
Or disable restarting after installing updates?
I am leaving my computer to run programs while I am away, and it is a b*tch to see coming home and see Windows restarted.
I chose the option to download, but ask me to install. That is my solution, but I was wondering if there was any way to disable automatic restarting.
(I know, just install when you want is a great option, I was just wondering, that is it.)

P.S.: Do we have a delete post option in the forum. At least in the next 15 minutes or an hour, or posts without a reply?

A:Can I install Windows Updates Automatically, but not restart auto?

If you've set Updates to ask you to install, you are installing them yourself not automatically so install them when you can handle the restart but not when you are doing something else.

A:Windows Automatic Updates Automatically Disables After Reboot

Hey man,
can you get onto your OS at all.  Meaning in normal boot or in Safe mode?
Do you have more than one antivirus running, if so the new or other antivirus will always try to disable security center being that with the expection of MBAM you dont want two antiviruses running, they will fight eachother.
To stop the issue try this

After you login

Press Windows key + R
Type: services.msc
Scroll down to Windows Defender
Select it make sure it is running and it is status is set to Automatic.
If not fixed AND if you have another antivirus you can either delete the 3rd party antivirus, or in this same services.msc turn off windows defender, which most antiviruses will do for you be default.

Still broken
this is from www.answers.microsoft.com

But BEFORE you do any of this please backup your files and make a recovery disc so IF something happens you can get back to at least where you are now.  If you have any questions please ask me before you post.  I will check back around noon CST USA.
Try the above stuff first and reboot, then do the below, but BACKUP first  here is a guide from Microsoft.com

Consider changing the way Security Center alerts to disable the warning.

There have been some recent reports of this situation. It may be due to a miscommunication between MSE and the WMI database. It may also be due to undetected malware.
Some people report that opening MSE, performing an update check and turning off and back on again the MSE real time protection resolves the issue temporarily or permanently.

If the WMI repository is broken, the following may help:
We've seen a number of reports here of this behavior following the recent upgrade of MSE.
I suspect that there are multiple causes.
Some have reported that uninstalling and reinstalling MSE resolves it.
Others have said that forcing an update or running a scan with MSE each time it happens solves it after a few days.
Others have reported that turning real time protection of and back on has resolved it.
And still others indicate nothing fixes it.
The problem can also be due to a broken WMI repository (see below) and perhaps a resource issue -- that is, the PC is low on memory or running slowly due to many programs and processes starting with Windows causing MSE and the Alert Center to not communicate in a timely manner after which it gives up (either reporting status to WMI, or WMI querying the MSE status). Try a clean boot or disabling excess startup programs to see if that's your case.
Here are procedures to correct the WMI repository that causes the Windows Security Center to report that no antivirus, antispyware, or firewall is active, yet MSE is actively protecting your PC and in green status.

When running this in Vista7, you must run the procedures as an administrator, elevated.

Method A
Start>Run>services.msc [enter]
Scroll down to Windows Management Instrumentation and double-click it.
Now click on the "Pause" button. Leave that window open and double-click
My Computer. Navigate to %systemroot%\Windows\System32\wbem (where
%systemroot% is the drive where XP is installed). Delete the Repository
folder and *only* the Repository folder. Now go back to the WMI service
window you left open and restart the service.
This will rebuild the Repository and hopefully straighten out the
incorrect entries for all your duplicates.
In order to see the Windows files, you may need to unhide them:
Make sure you are able to see all hidden files and extensions (View tab
in Folder Options).
Check "Display the contents of system folders".
Check "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and click "OK" to the
dialog box.

Method B from MVP Torgeir Bakken (more elegant)
Open a command window (Start/Run --> cmd.exe) and run the following commands:

net stop winmgmt
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
ren repository repository.old... Read more

A:Any way to hide "you have hidden important updates" WGA nag banner in Windows Update?

Description of Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA)

It's pretty basic. The core of it is, they are a company that sells computer Operating System software and don't want to be ripped off. And to prevent rip-offs from updating beneficial security and other support they provide FREE, they require you run the WGA.

That isn't unreasonable.

Don't like it? Get Linux or whatever.

A:Windows Update loops with a "Restart your computer to install important updates"

Thanks Alex
I had already tried the steps in the post you linked.
In the end I have had to reinstall Windows 7 over the top (keeping all settings) and this has fixed the issue with Windows Updates.
It is frustrating that I could not find a solution as I do not like glossing over the issues without first finding a solution but unfortunately it was not my pc and time was against me.
Thanks for all the replies.

I just installed

KB2933809

&

KB2957390

They fixed my Lock screen pictures issues & my Start screen pictures issues & enabled some old programs to function again.

Just thought I would pass the information along.

Check Windows Update & see if they are available to you.
They may not be available for all systems.

EDIT-- They fixed my ability to add pictures from my computer to the Forum.

A:2 New important updates

I see KB2933809 in my update history, 4/8/2014. I'm pretty sure it came after update 1. I don't see KB2957390 listed though. Can't say as I had any of the problems you mentioned. If I did I didn't notice it. I auto log in and boot right to desktop.

Greetings to all,

I had Win 8 Pro and Updated to Win 8.1.  In the past using Win XP, I always installed the Critical and some of the Important Updates.

I have not installed any of the Updates for Win 8.1 There are 110 Important Updates going back to February of 2015.  I have not experienced any problems.  In view of the fact that Win 10 will eventually be installed (in the spring) on my computer do I really need to install the Win 8.1 Updates?  If the answer is Yes, then what will happen to these Updates that will be using disk space once I install Win10?

Thanks in advance.

A:Are important Updates for 8.1 necessary considering Win 10?

Hi SillyBilly If you upgrade via the Media Creation Tool, you don't need any updates at all on your system to upgrade. It might even be easier that way. This being said, Important Updates are security related updates used to patch vulnerabilities, exploits and security holes in the Windows OS. They are critical to install if you want to run a safe and secure OS, so I strongly suggest you to install them as soon as possible.

HI I hope someone can help,

I reset my daughters laptop back to factory settings (Dell Inspiron 3521 64 bit) due to numerous problems, all now seem to be resolved. Thanks for advice.

I thought i would update to Windows 8.1 (never installed on this machine before).
I tried downloading from the store but received message saying updates are required before download could proceed.
went to settings>pc changes>updates there was 147 updates there waiting.

A message said we will install these updates as part of schedule maintenance. I'm now down to 109 updates waiting.
my question is why cant the updates all be installed straight away (please excuse my ignorance) there must be a simple answer. I have set the updates to automatic.

Regards and thanks in advance

A:Solved: Windows updates installing automatically and causing problem with shut down

Hi Dave, welcome to TSG.

First of all, you don't say how you know for sure that it is the updates causing this problem. Could it just be coincidence that the problem ocurred at that particular time?

Press the Windows + R keys and in the run box type or copy/paste sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and /scannow)

Click ok or press enter.

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

You may be prompted to insert your Windows CD/DVD, please do so.

If that doesn't work;

It may be that you are infected.

Please download HijackThis:
Please go here to download HijackThis.

Save the HijackThis.exe file to your desktop.
Double-click the HijackThis.exe file on your desktop to launch the program. If you get a security warning asking if you want to run this software because the publisher couldn't be verified click on Run to allow it.
Click on the Scan button. The scan will not take long and when it's finished the resulting log will open automatically in Notepad.
Save the log file to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your post.
Please do not fix anything with HijackThis unless you are instructed to do so. Most of what appears in the log will be harmless and/or necessary..

Also, please note that, even if I see signs of infection in your log, I am not qualified to offer advice regarding malware removal but I can at least point you in the right direction.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi there

I'm having multiple problems and the one above has come up today as I was looking into how to enable automatic TomTom connection and also Alfa wifi.  The Alfa keeps saying that Relatek driver is not connected.  Diagnostics keep coming up with different reasons and the one above is the latest.  It varies daily and I need some advice as it is soul destroying.  Is someone can help I would be most grateful.

A:Driver updates aren't automatically installed when detected by Windows Update.

FWIW:  You should never...use Windows Update for drivers.  If the system is an OEM/name brand system (e.g., HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.) you should get drivers for the system from the respective system manufacturer's websitel.

I see updates like Root Certificates Update, Microsoft Silverlight 1.0, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0: x86, Driver Update for Intel Graphics Controller and all those other stuffs..I have like 15 updates on the waiting list..Are they important?. I read an article about how some people had computer problems after installing some of these..

A:How important are optional updates?

Some people have problems after doing anything . . . you only need install the Optional updates you need. I like to install the Root Cert updates, but only any of the others that are needing a update,

You are not likely to have problems with any of them, you just may not need them

I'm wondering if it is possible to ignore an important windows update? Windows Defender updates are listed as important updates but I have my own security suite and therefore don't need to burn a few megs every month to update Windows Defender. I also have a netbook with very limited hard drive space that keeps bugging me to install that update that checks if my version of Windows 7 is genuine. I know it is and don't want to take up valuable and limited hard drive space for Microsoft to tell me what I already know. I would like to set Windows Update some how so that it doesn't keep bugging me to install these important updates, is that possible?

A:Possible to Ignore Important Updates?

Not necessary to install the defender updates. Those updates represent new malware that has been written. If you do not install, you may become infected with the malware.

Bottom line you reallyshould install, but to answer your question you do not have to.

You can hide all updates that are not wanted. just right click on the update to hide

I have my PC set to Notify me of Important Updates, but not download or install them.

On at least 2 different occasions over the past 2 months I seen maybe 17 -19 Important Updates shown when I open Updates, but chose not to install them at that moment because I was doing other things. When I went back a few days later they where all gone. This happened this week, as well as about a month ago. And, they were not automatically installed either.

What's going on with these disappearing Important Updates? Unfortunately I never checked to see if they were somehow redundant because I think they would disappear.

A:Important Updates Disappear?

Two days ago, I had 27 important updates which I had not installed.

Yesterday, my computer was up to date! Not a single update.

So I checked for updates for hours but had to stop since it was eating cpu and not come up with any results.

Try searching and post whether your search ended successfully without any updates, or was just stuck for hours.

Mine was stuck so I followed this procedure and found the old and newer July updates in minutes.
Set Windows to Never check for updates.

Make sure wuauserv is not running in the background eating your CPU . If it does, just stop the service.

Download and install KB3168965.

Restart and set Windows to Check for updates but let me choose what to install.

Click search for updates.

Let it search for 1-2 hours. Should come up with results.

I just updated Windows 8.1 a few days ago on a system that rarely gets used.

I turned it on again today and found that Windows Update now tells me that there are 215 important updates and 6 optional updates.

Has my system forgotten that it has ever been updated?

Also, will I have to take any action to get Windows 10? I had it installed and then had to restore to factory.

Thanks

Hello guys,

nice to meet this wonderful forum.
My problem is that ALL my important updates fail to install for some unknown reason.
I've not been able to install SP1, IE9 etc.....

Is there anything I can do besides formatting, or is there a way I can repair windows update only?

I tried the system update readiness tool, but no results.

Best regards,

Peter

What error message are you receiving from Windows?

Also, please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

Thanks a lot!

When I see the Windows Updates listing there's a tab for "important" and a tab for "recommended." Today I loaded all updates that were important. But when I looked in my update history, a few were described as recommended.

Also, today some places listed one update as "critical" - (the one about IE) and the rest as important.
But the word "critical" didn't appear at all. In other words these classifying things aren't consistent, have you noticed?

A:Updates - important/recommended etc.

Some updates are Critical in some circumstances, but not others - in real terms, any Security Update should be regarded as Critical - and others as Important or Optional
Since all IE Cumulative Updates contain Security elements, they are all critical - but because a given month's Cumulative update doesn't contain new Security Updates, it may be downgraded.

... but yes, the terminology does get confusing at times. One reason why it's good policy to install all updates unless you have good reason not to do so.

Some updates like this IE8 security update that was released the 14th, we're not getting in Windows update. Why?

Shouldn't we at least get important or critical security updates even in the lastest builds? I could see why maybe not other less important updates but critical security ones?

And when I try to install it says it's not applicable to my system but updates like this one should clearly be applicable, no?

Download details: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7 Client Beta (KB963027)
Download details: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7 Client Beta for x64-based Systems (KB963027)

MS09-014: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer

A:Why aren't we getting some important Updates

It could be that the issues these fix are already fixed in later builds. 7000 is still the only 1 (according to M$) that the public have and IE8 on that was too buggy. As far as I can tell build 7057 upwards have the full IE8 and not just the beta that's packed with 7000.

A:6 important updates as of 03.12.2010

Hi,

I would strongly recommend installing SP2 and IE8 as soon as possible. If you have any problems, we are here to help. If these updates came through before you uninstalled Office, then that is why. If Office is still installed, then you need these updates. Uninstall Office if you are going to, recheck for updates, and install any that are suggested. Any problems, post back.

Richard

My PC XPS 8700 bought in 2014 cannot boot to Windows at all. The blue screen error was system_thread_exception_not_handled - no any driver name.
The problem was occurred after MS updates were applied automatically when shutting down on Thursday 14th July 2016. My PC has been running Windows 10 since Windows 10 available and MS updates were applied automatically without any problem before this week.
I tried to go through Advanced Option in the blue screen > Troubleshooting > Advanced Options. And then I can go to Command Prompt but I cannot boot it to any Safe Mode.
Unfortunately, I did create a system repair disk or system image backup with Windows 10.

Please help and thanks in advance.

Ok recently I have been for check can't updates... Windows getting an error saying that windows can't check for updates I have also been getting a Trojan by the name of 'win PSW OnLineGames OTG' I believe I have fixed the trojan Norton has recently learnt of it's Windows can't check for updates... existence and now blocks it whereas Norton didn't have it in it's database before however it did re-enter my system twice Since it is a trojan associated with stealing 'World of Warcraft' account details I assumed it had infected a file that was something to do with the game probably an Add-on these are made by third parties however Blizzard does approve of using them in-game Anyway I deleted those and the virus hasn't been back but I figured that could be because Norton has quarantined it It caught my attention though because I was getting a virus and windows couldn't check for updates and I have heard of instances before where the update facility has been tampered with the download viruses disguised as updates When I click the 'Windows can't check ' bubble and then try to check a bar just scrolls across I have left it for an hour and come back and it has made no progress I haven't checked for updates since I got rid of the Windows can't check for updates... Trojan for the third time as even though I could get rid of it again I don't want to risk it I could really use some help in this for some more information - My vista copy is legitimate - I have cleaned repaired all registry files - I have recently run a disc check - All my temporary cache's are clear - I'm running Norton v Help please

Until recently, my Windows has been automatically updating by itself and has had no problems. Now it says that, "Windows can't check for updates" and it gives me ERROR CODE: 80070005

I messed around with my MSConfig, but I'm not sure if that's what has caused it, because I checked any program with relevance to updating Windows. Sorry I cannot provide any more info.

At start up she also get a message saying BHO.DLL and IE3ShSH application stopped working.

I have searched through many threads and I have been unable to find an answer.

My windows update is unable to check for updates, an whenever I manually check for updates, Install now shows up, once the installation process begins, a couple of minutes go by and windows returns to checking for updates, and I am right back to Check for updates for your computer.

I've checked the history, and so far KB948610 has failed 4 times, and KB953733 once in the past (windows apparently never tried again).

Has anybody have a clue how I can resolve this???

Hi All,

I get the message 'Windows can't check for updates' when I roll-over the Windows Updates icon in the notification area of my task bar. When I open up the Windows Updates window and tell it to update, it hangs indefinitely - I don't get an error message. Something similar happens with Windows Defender.

My computer is running very sluggishly and freezes regularly. Windows Updates has not updated since 4 Nov 2009, and Windows Defender has not updated since 19 Nov 2009. I am on Vista, and am running AVG, Avast, Malawarebytes and CC Cleaner. None of them have detected any infections.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Marcos

When I load up my Windows Update link I get an "error on page" message in the bottom left hand corner of my browser. If I refresh the page I can sometimes get it to move ahead to the custom/express install page, but I cannot get any further and actually check for updates.

What is the meaning of this?!
Is this a problem with their site or my computer?
Last time I got any updates was that day a few weeks ago where they had 10-20 new updates.

I have read many posts about problems due to the fact that after the installation of MS Updates the computer began to freeze, BSOD or just work slowly. The most usual cause is the fact that the updates are downloaded and installed at the same time. Many of these updates require restarting the computer. This fact causes conflicts and problems when the updates are not installed properly. Next week a large number of updates are expected, change your update settings to notify, only. Install manually, and one at a time. We rather you come to the forum giving help rather than seeking it.
