icon appears on taskbar for a split second and event viewer shows ID: 10000 + 10001 at the time of icon flash

Q: icon appears on taskbar for a split second and event viewer shows ID: 10000 + 10001 at the time of icon flash

I need help getting to the bottom of this, not sure why it's happening, or when it started happening, maybe a week ago...

I get a seemingly random icon flash on the taskbar for no more than a few miliseconds, so i checked
event viewer to track down what was happening and the only thing i can find is 2 events in the subcategory
Application that states the source as RestartManager
and the event ID as 10000 and 10001, these both appear every time the icon flashes on the taskbar

I think this issue is also causing fullscreen flash vids to show the taskbar and a loading circle on the cursor... also Battlefield 4 likes to get a black screen then when i alt-tab i'm back to the game without any crashing or any error besides this ominous
black screen

I'm running 8.1 legit

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a FireFox icon on my Taskbar. This morning I find that when I click on it to start the service, another Firefox icon appears on the Taskbar. The new icon is the "running" program and the other icon does not show running.

Have run Malware Anti-Malware, Spybot and Super AntiSpyware with nothing showing.

Any help with this?

Thanks

Hi!
I have just re-installed my OS. After I installed Adobe Photoshop CS6 64 bit, I pinned it in my taskbar. The icon of the desktop shortcut looks good, but in the taskbar, this is how it looks:

How could I solve this problem?

Hello barbu110 and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's possible that your icon cache became damaged or corrupt for some unknown reason. You could try rebuilding it and see what happens.

I have FF8 shortcut on my taskbar. All of a sudden, when FF is opened, there is a second FF icon at the far right of the taskbar (not in the systray). Up until now, when FF opens, its existing taskbar icon would show it was open...there never was a second icon. How do I get back to just one icon?

A:When Firefox 8 opens, a second FF icon appears on the taskbar?

Unpin the existing one ... open firefox, and pin the new one . This trick mat do it.
At the same time, upgradation to FF9 may solve it.

A small question. When I installed W7, the icons on the task bar displayed a small image of the program when I did a mouse-over. Now the have a text line giving info. Can't find how to change back. Didn't try to change in the first place. Thanks, Don

A:mouse-over icon on taskbar shows text

Hello Djangelico, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you using an Aero theme?

If you are, then double check these items: You must be have True Color (32 bit) set instead of High Color (16 bit).
The desktop composition and Animate controls and elements inside windows options need to be enabled in Visual Effects.
The Desktop Window Manager Session Manager and Themes Services need to be set as Started and Automatic.
Refresh or update your WEI score. You will need an WEI score minimum of 2.0 in both Graphics & Gaming graphics in order for Aero to be activated.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

For some reason FireFox doesnt want me to use my own icon for it in the taskbar. ill change the icon, pin it to the taskbar, click the new icon and itll open up a new firefox default icon on the taskbar so there will be 2.

anyway around this?

A:FireFox Taskbar Icon, Makes Duplicate Taskbar Icon's

Let's fix the duplicate icon first, open Firefox from the pinned icon you have already after the second one opens up unpin the first one and pin the second one that should stop the duplicate icon.

Now the icon go to C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar then right-click on the Firefox shortcut click on properties make sure you're in the Shortcut tab and click on the Change Icon Button. After you open up Firefox again icon will revert back to the default icon because it opens up Firefox.exe you would have to change the icon in the .exe for a permanent change.

So, pretty self explanatory, I have this super bizarre problem, whenever I have my taskbar set to small icons in the properties, the taskbar icons are all wrong, for example, the Windows Task Manager will show up as Google Chrome (application seem to take a fancy for that icon) or Adobe Lightroom will show up as the Windows Picture Viewer. I have searched everywhere, and all I can find are cases of missing icons, which is not my problem. Perhaps this is linked to the other problem I am having. (Half of monitor is out of sync.)

Don't know if I can help but will also try take a look at your problem.

First, just to be clear, note the 3 groups of icons along the bottom of screen image below. On left are Quick Launch icons, middle are open programs, on right are notification icons. Which group(s) are wrong when small? Also, can you right click a wrong icon and select Pin to Start Menu. Does it get pinned with the right or wrong icon?

A:some taskbar icon takes time to come

What did you install on your computer last weeK? The most common reason for your symptoms is that there are other services being started before the services that you listed. If these services started up quicker before, than there must be other stuff that is now starting before them. Did you do a virus scan? If you didn't install anything, it's possible that some spyware has been installed by a trojan and that is what is taking time to load before your other stuff.

when i click(1 time) on the icon on my taskbar, the programme opens up, normally i need to double clicks. Why is this happening? Someone help me thanks.

A:Click (1 time) on taskbar notification icon and it opens?

Hi GradeAbra,

The taskbar (the Quick Launch Menu) is programmed to start programs with only one click even if you have everything else (your folders, start menu, desktop and basically all other items) configured to use double-clicks. The taskbar cannot be changed to double-click - that's the way it is programmed and it is behaving normally if that is happening - you don't have a problem.

If you find you actually prefer this, you can change the rest of the system to use single clicks instead of double-clicks using the following: Single Click option.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I would like to place this icon (an image of a padlock taken from windows icon cache) on the taskbar.
My problem is, when I drag the icon to the taskbar a popup asks me if I want to 'Pin to Internet Explorer'...this is the only option given.
If I drop the icon onto the taskbar it changes my 'Padlock' icon to that of Internet Explorer...Clicking on this IE icon still takes me to my Online Banking Login page but I find it confusing having an IE icon.

Does anyone know how I can have my 'Padlock' icon showing on the taskbar.

Wish I had a better title, but I wasn't sure how to word this.

Basically what's happening is I have 2 instances of Firefox (different versions and different folder locations) and one of the instances is not opening where it's icon location is.

Example Screenshot:
As you can see. The far left instance does not want to open where it's icon location is.
The far right version always does it.
Even if I unpin the currently working instance (blue/orange icon) to only house 1 firefox instance (grey/black), the grey/black instance will still not open like the blue/orange instance current does (in it's own icon).
Hopefully this isn't confusing for anyone. I searched for a few terms to see if anyone had this problem and nothing came up, maybe I wasn't wording my searches correctly.

Hopefully someone can give some insights.
Thanks.

HiI have an HP laptop which has a single HDD It has been showing about a dozen or more errors as below -The device Device Harddisk DR has a bad block After checking possible solutions on several websites I ran CHKDSK C F R X which ran after system restart It proceeded upto smoothly but at halted for minutes and at kept processing for over minutes and instead of completing upto it just restarted couple of times and the system said it has completed the in Event Viewer shows 8.1 bad Windows sectors task and then rebooted once more and showed my Windows login screen as usual On checking the Event Viewer in Windows 8.1 shows bad sectors log entry in Event Viewer- Windows Logs- Application Log in a wininit entry it showed the chkdsk details which showed only K in bad sectors and no major issues otherwise Please note that I found Windows hang often about days ago and chose to reinstall OS through Recovery process which went off smoothly However these bad sector entries in Event Viewer have again cropped up and seem to make the system hang of and on Would be grateful if anyone can help me resolve the issue permanently Of course having the defective Hard Disk replaced is the last option but I won't be able to migrate my Recovery partition to a new HDD though I have Recovery DVDs Thank you Ramesh

Hello everyone.

I've search the forums but haven't found this.

I apologize in advance if a similar topic already exists, I haven't found one.

I have a notebook toshiba a200-14d with XP running.

If i run eventvwr and go to System, in that log, I found a lot of identical errors.

Here are the details :

Type: Error
Source: Disk
Category: none
Event ID: 11

Description:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
ht.

The logs shows that these errors occurred for 2 minutes, continuously. starting from 3:48:27 to 3:50:17.

Can anyone explain me what does this mean? Should I worry in any way?

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

I open Event Viewer - "Admin View" to see what Errors/Warnings are there and in the column - Date and Time only the date is showing. Same goes for all the other views.
The "Time" element seems to have completely disappeared.

Any idea where its gone........... and more importantly, how to get it back?

Thanks

A:Time stamp missing from Date and Time column - Event Viewer

Problem solved - but - I don't know why.

Solution:- I changed the Date/Time format from UK to US, opened Event Viewer and it was as it should be. Date & Time showing.
I then changed format back to UK, opened Event Viewer and , as above, the Time was back up.

If anybody knows what had happened I would be most interested.

My thanks to Bill............. from another site for helping me out with this one.

On a Dell Desktop running Windows XP, the icons on the desktop are split in half and reversed. (For example if the icon image was a number, 1234, it is showing up as 3412). Literally the image is split in half and then the halfs reversed.

I tried to reset the default icons through the desktop preferences but it only changed the standards, my computer etc, back and the others stayed split.

Any idea what may have caused this or how to make it better?

Hi Guys.
The last week or so my Win 7 Pro 64bit has been very slow to boot into windows, once there it is business as usual but I would like to get an idea of what the problem may be.

I am attaching a couple of screenshots from Event Viewer, showing my startup this morning.

As you will see the first entry was 08.31.13 e1 cexpress then at 08.31.18 kernel-PnP then a 3 minute delay until 08.34.12 WMI is loaded.

This is repeated on earlier startups. There are also many other 'Errors' shown so I am hoping someone can advise what may be wrong.

Many thanks

Alan.

When i open a folder in windows explorer, some of the .exe files don`t appear with the correct icon. I open the properties window and under the general tab the icon appears to be fine. I made a shortcut to the desktop and was given a change icon option in the properties window. Even then, it gave me the option to select what looked like the correct icon but when i selected it and applied it nothing happens and the default icon is still in place. I can only change it by selecting the browse option in properties and poaching an icon from another file. How can I get it to use the icon that it says it already has? Thanks, Stoo.

A:Icon Viewer

Hello Chipper,

When you install Icon Viewer with the correct 32-bit or 64-bit version as your Windows 7, it only adds a Icons tab when you right click on a file (ex: C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll) and click on Properties to see the icons in that file if available.

Hope this helps,

I recently had Windows Vista re-installed on my PC. Downloads are saved in a personal folder opened via a desktop shortcut icon. Now whenever I download and save a file it contains a small version of the same icon in the bottom left hand corner. This disappears when saving direct to the desktop, so must be an issue with the computer settings. Not the most serious problem, but didn't happen before and very annoying. I have had a few icon after WHAT?! Windows 10 icon appears after incompatibility little icon appears on the taskbar suggesting I upgrade to Windows Unbelievable - there is no option to check whether your system is eligible or not This machine didn't have the upgrade icon before I was just rather foolhardy in upgrading it via ISO upgrade in the first place Now apparently it is upgradeable But I am fairly sure there is still no driver for GMA If anyone knows different please let me know Incidentally I have Windows updates set to notify me updates are available but not download or install them and the icon has appeared of its own accord I found KB and removed it Icon gone now Unfortunately it is on my system image

A:WHAT?! Windows 10 icon appears after incompatibility

Hi,
Depending on the rest of your update settings 10 would load regardless of any compatibility quirks,
Upgrading is another story all together as you said no drivers which may or may not still be the case,

Did you also Uncheck Give me recommended updates the same as Important updates in the update settings ?
Otherwise all Recommended updates would of been in the same section as Important updates and load unless to culled them out
If you see the upgrade logo you loaded them

Good day!

I have another problem regarding thumbnail views.

I have these Icon Files (.ico), some appear to be smaller that the others but they were created on the same resolution of 256x256.

At first they appear normal, but when I copy these files to another directory, some icons don't retain their thumbnail size, e.g., from the image above "hp", "jp", "xmen".

But then again, when I rename those files, they revert to their original size, i.e., "jp" renamed to "jp3".

and when I rename "jp3" back to "jp", the thumbnails appear to be small again.

Note that the problem occurred when the Folder containing the icons were copied to another directory.

Hoping for your immediate reply for this concern.

Thank You.

I am not very computer literate, but someone used my computer without my knowledge in a 4 hour period; how can I use the Event Viewer to see which programs and files were accessed and if anything was connected to another computer on my network?
It's a new desktop running Win 8
It is connected to our home network via Wi-Fi, and my husband's laptop is connected to our Comcast service through the router, and is the main computer, but they are not remotely connected, I don't believe.
I haven't erased anything, so all of the data should still be there, right?
Any help would be great because navigating through the event viewer is easy, it's understanding  it that is proving difficult...

A:How do you read the Event Viewer to see all actions between a certain time?

Although you mention you are not computer literate at least you want your computer to be safe and in order.
--- I do not have Windows 8 so all I can do is provide some ideas
--- However I recommend you run your security programs first before moving on
Following is a summary of your concerns and questions
--- Navigating through the event viewer is easy but understanding it is proving difficult
--- Find out which programs and files were accessed
--- Was anything connected to another computer on your network?
--- You haven't erased anything so all of the data should still be there
Although your question focuses on using Even Viewer I think it would be a good idea to work out a couple of simpler items first that I suspect you don’t need Event Viewer for especially since it will take some time to get to understand how to use Event Viewer
Since you haven't erased anything, the data within the time frame you are interested in should still be there
On finding out which programs and files were accessed
--- Check out Microsoft: How To Search On Windows 8 – File Search, Settings Search, App Search http://windows7themes.net/microsoft-how-to-search-on-windows-8-file-search-settings-search-app-search.html
--- If you a file you do not recognize, right click and select Properties. Look at its origination & last accessed date.
--- Go back to the list and see if you can open that file.
------ If it opens see if you can relate to it
------ If it doesn’t open, it could be a file that was used by that person from whatever source they used, probably a thumb drive, maybe a CD. You will have to evaluate it according to how you perceive it
We can move on from there after you check this out

A:Wild Time in Event Viewer (7001)

On the 3rd try System restore saved me here. Event Viewer "system" was completely full of Event ID 7001 errors which occurred about 11 times per second. Had no sound, "My Computer" window took a loooong time to open. All peripherals (sound, printer, scanner) were missing but I could stile navigate on the INTERNET. But no one here would help me. I was sad about that. But on the 3rd try in safe mode System Restore worked.

Anyone have a clue I can have about what happened and why. (One thing I had done that i had never done before, I deleted the "prefetch files" with CleanUp. No immediate difference after that. But next time I rebooted all hell broke loose.)

Just over the last couple of weeks I've had a very strange rather icon-like vertical rectangle appear on my desktop in every session generally within a very few minutes of completion of loading of startup programs and I haven't been able to relate its appearance to any specific program It looks like a manifestation of a malfunctioning program but I really haven't a clue which Commonly its appearance does coincide with my loading a program or opening a window of an already running program thing on appears icon-like desktop Strange - but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which program or window-opening coincides with its appearance Once it's appeared - always in the bottom right-hand corner of the desktop Strange icon-like thing appears on desktop - it doesn't go away nor change in any way I can drag the rectangle to anywhere on the desktop but not drop it into anything it simply drops in the new position on the desktop - and dragging works only if I click on its right half above its bottom rather paler strip Unlike desktop icons it cannot be selected or deleted and clicking on it single double right middle left doesn't do anything - no menus no action The attached images show it in its corner and also moved away from the corner so you can see that it wasn't extending beyond the screen edge Any ideas what this is and how to get rid of it -- Many thanks

I've noticed that sometimes there is a homegroup icon on my desktop, sometimes there isn't. For example a couple hours ago when I turned on my computer, there was a homegroup icon on my desktop, but on this new startup it is gone.

Does it have anything to do with when my roommate's desktop is on/off?

I have XP and windows 2003. This week attacked by System Check. Horrible. I was able to (I believe) get rid of it by reading several posts and how to's on this amazing website.Specifically the one by Laawrence Abrams from January 1, 2012. Awesome it saved me!
TOday I signed up and am telling everyone about this website. I used the Rkill, unhide, and also the Malwarebytes. Everything so far, seems back to normal. However, on my start up menu I still have the "system check icon" with the fake Microsoft flag. My desktop also shows an icon but its displayed as a white "box" with a blue bar at the top of it. No flag very generic looking. How do I make certain these are truly gone. Do I send to recycle and then delete? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

I've already spent 12 hours on this, reduced the startup to microsoft only, and a whole slew of other fixes that I know, and I've learned many in my 15 years as a tech.

What's happening is that Windows 7 Home is booting into windows, loads the notification, power, and network icons but the network icon is holding for 20-30 minutes. I have tried driver upgrades, removal, etc. the only thing I haven't removed is the virtual wifi miniport but that is next on the list.

I will admit that I'm fairly new to servicing some of the quirks of windows 7, so I don't claim to know all (as if I could )

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Windows boots then hangs after network icon appears

Welcome to the sevenforums outerregion!

I'd point my finger at the network card, connection, or drivers... since that's where it hangs. To help us on this and any future issues, please complete filling in your system specs. Is this a desktop or laptop?

Have you checked your connection? Wired or wireless??? Try a different cable, or port if your mobo has dual nics. Maybe try a different port on your router too (if you have a router). Check your routers DHCP settings, do you ever get an IP?

Hi - never came across this before. Our Dell running XP has several user accounts set up. Mine is fine, but my wife's has a problem. In Windows Explorer, when she clicks on the search button, the animated icon appears (dog, in this case), but nothing else - no choices (All files and folders, Pictures, music, or video, etc.) appear. Right-clicking anywhere only gives the Close Toolbar option. the result is that she is unable to search the computer for anything. Same result when using Start->Search. The weird thing is, as I said, Explorer in my user account is fine.

I assume it must be a setting somewhere, but I can't find it. Anyone ever encounter this, or know how to remedy it?

Thanks in advance!

When I use the “Alt Print Screen” function and paste on to Word, a .Pdf icon appears, instead of the screen I took a picture of.

The .pdf icon is not the Adobe icon. It's a Paperport 9 .pdf icon. Paperport 9 has a Adobe pdf writer bundled with it. This anomaly happens about 50/50 (so much for being an anomaly).

How do I modify Word or the registry to revert back to how it should print screen?

By the way, I have tried right clicking and going to "open with" and choosing firefox and ticking the box "always open with...." and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance

When I plug in my flash drive this shows up in Devices and Printers:
When I Google what's written below it, I only get a few Asian pages.
So what is it and which language is that?

Why would Windows 7 use an Asian driver as its default flash drive driver? Also my flash drive is 8GB. I'm guessing drive capacity doesn't matter for the driver and it just happens to say 4GB.

Edit: Well, apparently its Chinese.

So my problem is a little different than the others. I can't seem to get rid of my Windows Defender icon, despite the fact that I am not using it as my AV protection. I have the latest ESET Anti-Virus installed, which is listed on their websites as being compatible with the Anniversary Update. I don't have any entries for the icon in my Start Up list. However, the icon is still there. I can shut off Defender, but the icon remains. I don't want two active scanners running at the same time.

Before this, the icon was showing a normal Network status after the modem had all LEDs illuminated. Now, it takes about 5 minutes or so. Any ideas? OS is Vista Home Premium.

If you have access without problem there is no reason to concern yourself. Go to search by the start button. Type notification, in the notification area got to network notification and set it up to hide. The problem is gone and you are enjoying the computer and the internet.
You could try to right click on the icon and then troubleshoot, but I am not really hopeful using that approach.
I do not know of any other way to correct this small malfunction.

My Win SP Dell desktop system takes up to or even minutes to boot up Doing a quot clean boot quot it still takes almost minutes This has been going on a while so I reinstalled Windows SP and installed all the updates It only seemed to make it worse I use Security Essentials and Sloooowww Win viewer info Event boot time, attached 7 it claims there are no viruses malware I've run MalwareBytes and it too says the system is clean Doing some research I learned about the Event Viewer so I ran it and got nothing but warnings of degradation and critical errors In the non-clean boot PreShellInit seems to be the worst culprit In the clean boot it is one of several degrading processes Below are the Event Viewer errors for the clean boot Any help and suggestions on how to fix this are much appreciated Thanks EdB Event Viewer info Total degradation time Windows has started up Boot Duration ms IsDegradation false Incident Time UTC - - T Z File Name svchost exe Friendly Name Host Process for Windows Services Version win rtm - Total Time ms Degradation Time ms Incident Time UTC - - T Z File Name ehrec exe Friendly Name Windows Media Center Host Module Version win rtm - Total Time ms Degradation Time ms Incident Time UTC - - Sloooowww Win 7 boot time, Event viewer info attached T Z Name PreShellInit Total Time ms Degradation Time ms Incident Time Sloooowww Win 7 boot time, Event viewer info attached UTC - - T Z File Name sftlist exe Friendly Name Microsoft Application Virtualization Client Service Version Total Time ms Degradation Time ms Incident Time UTC - - T Z System - Provider Name Microsoft-Windows-Diagnostics-Performance Guid CFC EC - B - EBA- B- CAEE B A EventID Version Level Task Opcode Keywords x - TimeCreated SystemTime - - T Z EventRecordID - Correlation ActivityID C -F - - B - D D ECF - Execution ProcessID ThreadID Channel Microsoft-Windows-Diagnostics-Performance Operational Computer Turing - Security UserID S- - - - EventData BootTsVersion BootStartTime - - T Z BootEndTime - - T Z SystemBootInstance UserBootInstance BootTime MainPathBootTime BootKernelInitTime BootDriverInitTime BootDevicesInitTime BootPrefetchInitTime BootPrefetchBytes BootAutoChkTime BootSmssInitTime BootCriticalServicesInitTime BootUserProfileProcessingTime BootMachineProfileProcessingTime BootExplorerInitTime BootNumStartupApps BootPostBootTime BootIsRebootAfterInstall false BootRootCauseStepImprovementBits BootRootCauseGradualImprovementBits BootRootCauseStepDegradationBits BootRootCauseGradualDegradationBits BootIsDegradation false BootIsStepDegradation false BootIsGradualDegradation false BootImprovementDelta BootDegradationDelta BootIsRootCauseIdentified true OSLoaderDuration BootPNPInitStartTimeMS BootPNPInitDuration OtherKernelInitDuration SystemPNPInitStartTimeMS SystemPNPInitDuration SessionInitStartTimeMS Session InitDuration Session InitDuration SessionInitOtherDuration WinLogonStartTimeMS OtherLogonInitActivityDuration UserLogonWaitDuration

Hi

I am trying to add an email manually using the Mail (32 bit) icon in Control Panel. The icon appears normal, as opposed to the blank icons some other users might have faced. When i click on it the cursor turns to a circle for a few seconds and then nothing happens.

I cannot add an email account manually through Outlook (2013), it just wont let me.

Thank you.

A:Mail app doesnt launch when clicked on. Icon appears normal.

Hi dhr. welcome to the Forum.

I just checked my Mail in Control Panel & it wont work either. Perhaps a recent Windows Update has caused a problem with it.

But you should be able to add an email account through Outlook 2013. What is stopping you from doing that, can you supply more information.

does anyone know anything about the stupid wee icon that appears when you hover over a web image and lets you save/ email it? does it only kick in on certail size images or formats? e.g. go to www.reersupport.co.uk - it comes in over the bigger image not the smaller one? I want to stop it doing this on my website which is based on grpahics - it does it everywhere you stop the mouse!!

A:kill 'save picture icon' that appears when you hover over an image?

In Internet Explorer,
Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab
in the Multimedia section, uncheck Enable Image Toolbar
