Regularly short-freezing computer

Q: Regularly short-freezing computer

Hello all,

I'm a bit frustrated about my computer lately. It often responds slow, or freezes for a brief period of time.
I'd love it if someone could help me to check if my pc is okay.

I tried to run dds.com to create a logfile, but I only get the pop-up that dds.com isn't meant to run in compatibility mode. But under 'properties', I can't find any tab for compatibility settings.
Is there some other tool to create a log for Windows 8.1, 64 bits?

I will appreciate your help with this situation.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was hoping you guys could help me out. I am working on an employee's laptop that freezes up roughly every half hour or so. I ran a scan with Malwarebytes and found nothing, ran a registry cleaner, disc cleanup, and defragged the computer. Still it freezes up.

It will always freeze up during a defrag and has gotten hung up when nothing is running while I cleaned out the temp folder. Does anybody have any ideas as to what it could be? Thanks

A:Computer Freezing for a short time (Hardware Fault)

Identical problem here.. hard drive light goes solid and pc just stops for 1 min, still able to move the mouse cursor but cannot slect anything or alt-tab etc. Any alt tab or double clicking is cached up and then all fired off at once when the minute freeze is up.

I'm pretty certain now it's down to my Asus P5K-E motherboard (which is what I assume the original poster has)

I'm looking towards M/Board now as I have swapped drives and changed CPU from Q6600 to Q8200 also switched from Vista 32bit to Win7 64bit and still get the issue.

I alleviated it for a while by switching my SATA 300 drive down to 150 mode by setting the jumpers.

Have flashed the P5K to the latest bios with no joy.

Full specs are..
Q8200 Quad
Asus P5K-E Wifi Premium
500GB Samsung SATA300
4GB Ram
lightscribe 20x DVDRW
Sony Bluray Drive (installed after problem had already appeared)
2 x ATI HD3870's in crossfire config.
Windows 7 64bit / WinXP dual boot.

Hi All.

I have a home-built Windows 8 Pro machine and am experiencing regular freezes (no BSOD) usually about 15 to 30 minutes after power up. When I reboot (hard reset) my PC is usually stable for the next few hours at least.

I cannot see anything in the event logs that leads to an answer so am hoping that someone here can shed some light.

Log files attached.

Kind regards,
John.

A:Windows 8 Pro Regularly Freezing

Hi examining the mini-dumps I have found some out of date drivers on your system you should update to Windows 8 64bit versions or un-install/remove if un-needed:

hcw95bda.sys - Hauppauge MOD7700 Tuner Driver: Driver Reference Table
hcw95rc.sys - Hauppauge MOD7700 IR Driver: Driver Reference Table
mv_process.sys - Marvell Semiconductor: mv_process.sys Details. Is this file safe? Check the directory (cannot find much information on this you might want to un-install it)

Please update your Marvell driver by using your motherboard manufacturers website, this should include the Marvell Storage Utility and Marvell SATA Controller Driver, the Intel? Rapid Storage Technology, Hot Fix and anything else you might consider you need to update:

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-Z77X-D3H (rev. 1.0)

Please also make sure you have installed all the latest Windows 8 updates if you have not done so already.

-cheers

I have an HP ProBook 4540s that stutters when accepting input via both keyboard and mouse. This happens not just in windows, but also in the BIOS itself. Issue is also present when booting to safe mode, and in POST. I am a bit stumped, but I have run a memtest from the UBCD and it checked out fine, as did my HDD. Any ideas?

The last 2 days i have noticed that after around 30mins or so i can no longer open files/internet/pics etc

Nothing can be opened but window tabs can be minimized and have full use of mouse and keyboard.

I cant open task manage when this happens and only a restart works.
This can only be done manually via the reset button on base unit and not via Windows restart function.

Ive run full AV scan with MSE and came back clean.

Not installed any programs within this time, the only thing that i can think of updating was Firefox 2 days ago.

many thanks for any help

A:PC freezing after short period

If you created a System Restore point prior to updating Firefox, you could use that restore point to roll back your system.

If you don't already have it, and can get on the web (or otherwise place a downloaded installer on the problem computer), you should try a full scan with Malwarebytes after allowing it to update.

DST [Disk Self Test] failure indicates that your hard drive will likely fail in the near future. You should back up any important files, create system recovery media and replace the hard drive with one the same size or larger than the original.   If you found my answer helpful please say thanks by clicking on the Thumb's Up icon.          If my answer solved your problem please mark it as the Accepted Solution. Sounds like an alarm of some sort, maybe for heat etc. What mobo do you have? Maybe the BIOS has an alarm type system for problems.

I would appreciate any help. I have been troubleshooting my computer off and on for nearly 3 weeks. I am thinking most likely it is a hardware problem.
The computer will nearly always freeze within 10 minutes of booting up. Sometimes it doesn't even make it into windows. I am fairly computer savvy having built 4-5 computers in the past. I have reinstalled the operating system on several occasions as I have been getting propblems with corrupt system files.

System specs
ASUS A8N-SLI premium
AMD FX-55 64 bit processor
2 chips of Corsair 1gig ram XMS3200 400MHz
2 500GB WD SATA drives
EVGA GeForce 7800 GTX 256 MB PCI-E
PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 1 kW power supply.

I have ran WD full HD diagnostic and it says everything is fine with no errors detected.

I would like any ideas or other diagnostic utilities to run, preferably free.

Thank you

Hi yall, my problem started when I downloaded a trial of corel paint shop pro XI since then my computer crashes all the time every 20 minuets to 1 hour. System restore does not work it fails each and every time I try it.
I purchased error doctor it cleans the errors but the crashing still occurs.
On start up I get the error reporting window one is taskmgr exe , winlog exe, and one that says windows cannot open this file scvhost. exe, although the latter 2 did not appear on my last startup, and finally one that says windows is recovering from a serious error. Is there any thing I can do to correct this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Joe

A:Computer freezes randomly, regularly

Here's an idea.

Update Windows or/and try disconnect your usb devices.

If you want to have the mods respond to your problem, you should try to include some more spcific detail about the error from eg eventviewer or your bsod dump files.
Try the program bluescreenview.

Hope it helps.

My uncle's computer is blue screening and restarting regularly. They claim that it's just when doing regular processes like checking email and browsing the internet. I checked the crash reports and it stated Windows has stopped intermediately every 5 minutes. I uploaded the report that I got from your tool and I would appreciate any help. So for the past year my computer has seemingly randomly crashed or BSOD'd on a fairly regular basis at least once per day I think it may be happening more while I am gaming but that may just be because I am at my computer only when I am gaming Its a fairly old build but otherwise still fast and stable OS - Windows bit Windows Full retail version OS years or so Since the first round of Windows upgrades not exactly sure when that was Less than a year AMD Phenom II B Dual Core unlocked third core years ago and has been overclocked to MHz gaming temp are ATI Radeon standard Asus M A TD-M Corsair W x Gb Patriot RAM DDR Not all bought at the same time but has been in the computer for over years with no issues yet Desktop put together by me If you could give me any Windows 10 crashes Computer BSOD with sometimes regularly, pointers as to what is causing the crashes that would be great I looked quickly at the perfmon report and it Computer crashes regularly, sometimes with BSOD Windows 10 said my WLAN card was failing It is currently disabled and I use a wired LAN if that helps at all Thanks Christian

Your UEFI/BIOS (version 2202) dates from 2012.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.Although you appear to have a reasonable number of Windows Update hotfixes for this version of your OS, please double check for any new Windows Updates.  It only takes one update to cause a problem, so it's essential that you have all of them.  The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating. This device is disabled in Device Manager: ASUS PCE-N15 11n Wireless LAN PCI-E Card    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8178&SUBSYS_84B61043&REV_01\019181FEFF4CE00000    This device is disabled.Did you deliberately disable this device?  If so, why did you disable it.Please re-enable it, update the drivers for it, and then feel free to disable it again if it's not needed. Most of the memory dumps seem to be related to an error that is most likely hardware (but it can be due to other things - such as compatibilty or low-level drivers)As such, please start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html Please temporarily remove the Comodo firewall (and enable the Windows firewall) to see if that helps. If it doesn't, then feel free to download a fresh copy of Comodo to reinstall it. Please update these drivers (they date from 2009/10):AtiHdmi.sys                 Fri Jul 24 02:33:11 2009 (4A6955A7)http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=AtiHdmi.sysnx6000.sys                  Wed Jan 27 18:36:09 2010 (4B60CDE9)http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=nx6000.sys Analysis:The following is for information purposes only. A:Computer shuts off regularly every 30 minutes to 3 hours

Sounds like a thermal protection kicks in. Sounds like your machine is overheating under load.

Do you have hardware monitoring software running so that you can see what your CPU/GPU temperatures are, fan speeds, voltages, etc.? This would be invaluable to help you rule in or out thermal issues.

I myself use a non-free product named Aida64 because of its highly regarded capabilities and customizations, which provide both a concise onscreen display using minimal real estate, as well as an optional flyover-help for its System Tray icon that displays whatever you want it to display (I don't use this myself, because I prefer the always-visible OSD updated every 4 seconds).

Hi,

I am new here and although I am fine with working out how to use software etc I am rubbish with hardware and anything that goes on in the background of my PC.

My PC was custom built by my now ex-husband. It has not worked properly since he left (can't be sure that it was sabotaged - lol) and I am really not sure where to start with all of the minor things.

My main problem is that it is slow to start up and regularly crashes or re-starts itself.

I am keen and quick to learn new things but really don't know where to start on this one.

Please could somebody give me some advice on where to start. I would really appreciate it.

Thanking you in advance.

Superwitch x

p.s I no longer have my Windows CD as it mysteriously left my house around the same time as my husband.

A:Help Removing A Virus - Computer Shutting Down Regularly!

Try running your AV in safe mode. See if it finds anything when it does a complete scan--- then, as a double-check against Norton, you can use one of the many on-line virus scans as well. If neither options points to a virus. If neither of these steps work, then consider the possibility that your problem could also be caused by other, perhaps hardware related, problems.

John

A:computer running slow and crashing regularly

anybody help please??

Purchased the computer late Oct 2011, only 2 month old when system would randomly blue screen and restart at regular interval (about couple times within few hours of each other every 9-10 days). Current OS came OEM with the system, I have not re-installed OS but is considering it.

More on the Window 7 installed here:
64 bit
Windows 7 Enterprise, SP1, came pre-installed with the computer.

I have followed the steps to zip Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 folder & the PERFMON HTML file. Please let me know if any additional information is needed.

Thanks in advance!

A:BSOD regularly but randomly, even when computer was idle.

These crashes were caused by memory corruption (probably a driver). Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!
1-Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

2-Driver verifier

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

My computer has developed a very annoying BSOD problem recently and I am unable to pinpoint what I might have done to cause this

? Windows 7 Professional
? x64
? Vista Home Premium x32
? Full retail version
? 27 months
? October 2009 (Win 7 release)
? Intel Q6600
? His/ATI HD 5670
? Motherboard : As supplied - Dell XPS 420
? Power Supply : As supplied - Dell XPS 420

These BSOD were very rare then started to get more regular. Usually fairly soon after restart. Another odd thing also started recently which I guess is probably realted - during boot and shutdown there is a very long period of about 5-10 minutes when nothing seems to be happening then all of a sudden the process continues.

A:Computer freezes regularly. BIOS often reports conflicts

Okay, a lot of info here... Laptops are a lot different than desktops when it comes to freezing and BSOD's. You are sill using XP, so the laptop is a bit old now, right? Did you revert to XP from Vista or Windows 7? This would explain the driver difficulties... Are there any yellow exclamation points in the Device Manager? If so, a clean install of XP might be warranted

Hi chuggworth and welcome to TSF

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, so we may continue cleansing the system:

This problem is linked to your motherboard. It can also mean that you are facing a problem with your system memory (BIOS AWARD)
I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Hey all I have an ongoing problem short, won't unlikely but boot...possible Computer that reoccurs randomly and can be very frustrating I built a computer a couple years ago and everyone so often out of the blue it refuses to turn Computer won't boot...possible short, but unlikely on Computer won't boot...possible short, but unlikely I was hoping someone could point me in the next troubleshooting direction by analyzing what I have already done The motherboard power light is on and when I push the power button the memory light goes on and the fans spin about once and then cut out This is why I believe there is a short I have tried running the motherboard outside the case to see if it was in fact a short but still no luck I also tried using fiber washers between the chassis screws to separate the mobo from the case It seems like i just have to wait it out and after hours of disconnecting and reconnecting parts repeatedly the computer eventually boots Here is what has been ruled out I have tried basically all of the obvious checks - PSU - Motherboard had it replaced by EVGA - GPU - RAM - HDD - DVD Drive - reset CMOS The only thing I can thinks is that it s the BIOS but that was replaced with the mobo or the CPU So frustrating Any help and guidance is much appreciated Thank you nbsp

How to find and post your Minidump Files:

My Computer > C Drive > Windows Folder > Minidump Folder > Minidump Files.

It is these files that we need (not the folder). Attach to your next post the five most recent dumps. Notice the Manage Attachments button at the bottom when you go to post the next time. You can Zip up to five files per Zip; if you only have one or two you don?t need to zip them, just attach as is. Please do us a favor and don?t Zip each one individually.

My computer goes to sleep in just a short time after using. If a longer time it has to be restarted. Would appreciate some help if any one knows the problem. I use IE and Vista.

A:computer goes to sleep short time after use

Have you checked the Power settings?
Right click the Desktop
Personalize > Screen Saver > Change power settings link
This will show you when the monitor and or hard drive is set to go to sleep. If you want to extend the time frame or disable the sleep option entirely, you can reconfigure it there.

Do you have Service Pack one for Windows Vista installed?
Let us know what you find.

Do you keep your anti-virus upto date, and how often do you scan? Also could you post your system specs so people can help you more.
Another thing, when did you first notice that this started to happen. Had you downloaded anything or made any system changes? This will give people a better picture of how to help you.

I tried to change the floppy drive and ribbon cable. I also ran an sfc /scannow and when the scan was over, it just went away. The PC is on XP Pro (Corp edition, I believe). I've been trying countless things with no success. Does anyone know what needs to be done or could be done to remedy this situation?

NOTE: I had a post similar to this one about a month ago, but all of the info was skewed as there were 2 questions in the 1 message.

A:My computer freezes after short time of activity.

Have you tested the hdd? I'd run the hdd manufacturers diagnostic tool on the drive to make sure it's healthy.Having said that it could be a software problem, has this started after installing something new?The next time it freezes have a look here:StartControl PanelPerformance and MaintenaceAdmin ToolsEvent ViewerSystemHighlight a error then click properties, then click on the link below For more information, see Help and Support Center as this may give you information on how to solve the error.

Hi,

In the last week or so, my computer has lost the ability to shutdown normally.
After that, nothing will open (command prompt, task manager, etc..) but the computer is not frozen. Now, when I turn the computer on, it seems like after 10 or 15 minutes, the same thing happens.

I have used Avast! antivirus software and it found [email protected] (was marked as a rootkit) and win32:dowloader-HQR (trojan).

However, after have quarantined these problems, the computer has not been fixed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have been having this problem for about a year now where my computer hangs for a few seconds and then resumes. During the 'freeze', I can still move my mouse, but programs stall or won't open until the freeze is 'over'. If there is a media player playing, it'll freeze and loop the audio or just crash completely. When I'm listening to music, It'll stop and then resume after the freeze. The problem never leads to BSOD or anything, but it's getting pretty annoying.

I have run chkdsk several times and there were no errors and I'm sure all of my drivers are updated.

Anyone know what the problem may be?

A:Computer hangs for a short period and then resumes

I think its a small virus causing the problem. You can check online with many brands of antivirus to see what you might have.
The virus may be taking many resources from your computer so you have this issues or perhaps its part of the problems that the virus is supposed to do.
Also, I suggest you to make a backup of your files because you never know what these kind of problems will lead to
Tell us if you find a virus during your checks.

A:Newly built computer random freezing and freezing on starting windows

Hello Skytri and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not at expert at anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't a RAM problem. Perhaps one of the sticks wasn't seated properly, etc. You could open Resource Monitor > Memory tab and make sure all RAM is being recognized. Make sure Installed = 16384MB and the Available + Cached + Hardware Reserved is the same amount. (You are using 16GB total, correct?)

Resource Monitor

If Memtest freezes you could try a quick check for a bad RAM module. Install one stick in Slot # 1 (or whichever slot the mobo manual says to use.) Run the computer to test for freezes. Test each of the remaining sticks one at a time. If all 4 sticks work you might want to go through these troubleshooting guides. They are time consuming but many people have been able to isolate their computer problems.

Hello,

I'm going to post two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen and I have no higher computer knowledge.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Thanks,

A:Random Computer Freezing - Need to hard restart after freezing No BSOD

Wow, this sounds like the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when his hard drive was failing. Replaced the drive and the freezes went away. Even the buzzing noise.

Also you may need to look at what drivers you may have just install/updated.

Hoping you don't have any failing hardware "Motherboard, video card, etc". Those are expensive

I wish to make a short cut to "shut down" the computer Windows Vista OS.

%windir%\system32\Shutdown.exe -s -t 0 -f in target use to work for Windows XP in "Target".

Start in %windir%

That short cut doesn't work for Windows Vista.

What should I use for Windows Vista ?

To re-boot is-
%windir%\system32\Shutdown.exe -r -t 0 -f for XP.

Start in %windir%

How to I make re-boot short cut for Windows Vista as well ?

Thanks.

A:I wish to make a short cut to switch off the computer Windows Vista OS

Hi,

Try this for the shutdown. shutdown.exe -s -t 00 -f

And this for the restart. shutdown.exe -r -t 0

Hello.

Personally, I think you should click on the "report" link of your post and ask the moderator to move your thread to the malware removal forum, to be certain that the malware is gone.

It is possible that the programs you listed have missed a nasty piece of malware.

A:Solved: Computer Freezing/freezing/graphical glitchs

If you're getting graphical 'glitches' while in bios, that's usually a good sign that your graphics card is having issues - however, I have seen this happen with faulty ram. I'd recommend reseating the cards (ensure your computer is off and unplugged whilst doing so) and see if that helps

A:Computer Freezing; Slowing Down. But mostly freezing. I have my HiJackThis! Log File.

I don't see anything in your log or your description of your problem to come to the conclusion that your problem is malware related. When there is malware present there will always be other internet related symptoms like popups or a browser hijack etc...

I will advise you to uninstall Microsoft Anti-Spyware as the version you have is very old and no longer supported. It in now called Windows Defender.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Go through this now and see if it helps:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

Defrag your HD:

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.

Keep in mind that some entries will be re-enabled in the startups each time you use that particular program. Therefore, you will have to find the option in that programs preferences that says something like "Load with Windows" or "Run when Windows Starts" and disable that option.

Go here for info on msconfig:

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

You can look up the startups at the following links to help determine what is needed and what is not:

Hello Nissan & welcome.

Analyses
Most of your dumps are including your Graphic Driver. So to really make a secure uninstall and get rid of the leftover files of the uninstallation from the Control Panel, we'll use some specific tools. The little guide below tells you what to do to uninstall and install your Nvidia-driver.

Tutorial

i) Find your driver here, save it to your desktop
ii) Download Driver sweeper, for the leftover files
iii) Uninstall your driver from the Control Panel
iv) While rebooting, go into safe-mode without internet (tip: plugout your LAN cable or disconnect wireless)
v) Run Driver Sweeper, click all the Nvidia components and analyse them
vi) Clean them all
vii) Head into Windows, without internet
viii) Install the Driver from the desktop

I have posted in many other forums and the people that reply come computer seems Nothing what short it Beeps Virus is booting. long 1 2 from stops to somewhat the same conclusion that my video card has failed but not completely Summed up the computer beeps long beep then short beeps then nothing An unlit monitor on my laptop It will if I press on boot normally but only if a few Virus stops computer from booting. Beeps 1 long 2 short Nothing is what it seems steps are done I have come to the conclusion that this is not a video card problem because a bad connection being good again because of an artificially overheated human intervened video card yes is plausible but there is thing that I know that changes that entire idea I don't have to overheat it at all to make it work In fact I just leave it off and have it plugged in for a few minutes Absolutely no heat is being created in doing so and that simple thing allows the laptop to turn on normally You could overheat it for days and days and it still won't turn on but as soon as you take the off-plugged in approach it starts working What I saw today surprised me being the th day of me messing with this thing an error came up You might be a victim of counterfeit windows software error If I'm not mistaken I've never seen microsoft be so helpful in this kind of way Now this might seem a little tin-foil hatted to some but what is stopping a privately funded hacker from creating a virus that self-replicates into the system ram Bios area and to the hard drive so that the majority of old-computer owners buy new hardware to further the profit growth of a company say Microsoft Maybe Virus is not the right term but let's call it a Virus since it annoys me and stops my laptop from working properly but I have heard of such a virus that was created by the government like it's real Look it up You see if you erase the hard drive it doesn't matter because the virus will just replicate its self back onto the hard drive and back into the ram ect no matter how many times you press and hold the power button to Clear the memory Now this is nuts I won't take Video Card Failure as the answer because solder and or heat paste needs heat in order to be Mended into working again Furthermore heat paste I imagine has nothing to do with how the video card is connected to the motherboard but I have heard the bogus response to this query by many A good symptom is that once I finally get it booted I can restart it many many times say - times in a row if I wanted for a week Then one day it won't boot and I'll retry again I have no need to cross my fingers to worry myself that one day it will just never turn on That's bogus I've heard that Too many times doing that overheating thing will make it finally fail indefinitely Nope It keeps working I've re-installed windows about times since this started Ubuntu about times The problem seems to go away after I re-install but only for a week Then the intermittent crap starts again The first time this happened I got a x B blue screen error Never saw it since I have also seen no performance issues with the display or graphics I am thinking of going ahead and buying an external graphics card by Nvidia but sadly my nature wishes to keep messing with it's stock setup My system IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T P GB Ram Intel T Core Duo GHz GB Intel Solid state drive

Lets take a look.

If you can start the computer i Normal Mode, please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Make sure that under Optional Scans, there is a checkmark on Addition.txt and Shortcut.
Press Scan button.

A:psu death & slave hdd short circut, new computer build, now xp wont boot.

If, as appears to be the case, you are trying to boot the new hardware on the old Windows installation on the HDD, that ain't going to happen.

What you experience is what I would expect to happen.

The new hardware is being force fed the wrong code by all the "old" drivers and is violently objecting.

You have to do a reinstall, or at minimum a repair install.

My only solution is that you get a new HDD, another Windows CD (and COA if yours was OEM, which is not transferable to a new motherboard) and reinstall from scratch. Then access the data with the present HDD connected as a slave, or fitted in a USB enclosure.

so I got a computer that keeps freezing up on me. sometimes it runs for hours before hanging, and sometimes it hangs every 5-10 minutes.

I ran memtest and it seemed to freeze up during memtest. the little blinking icon was normal, but the test wasnt running and the commands didnt work.

does this mean that my memory sticks are bad?

Running XP pro Sp2, IE 7 & Mozilla 3.6 8 . Using Mozilla, facebook, farmvile game. Mozilla has the file plugin-container.exe, which taskman shows hogging resources. Out of the blue my pc started the beeping randomly while using mozilla. When I close, no beep since. All other apps are standard, usual and up to date. No new hardware or software. Recent past & some random scroll bar moving by it's self, have not found a fix. That happens on both browsers. Should I remove or disable the plugin-container.exe, & would it affect mozilla & farmville? I read where it suppose to stop the browser from crashing, but it doesn't. Also have virtually the same setup up on another pc routed with this one. Please give me some insight!
If this is the wrong forum, please direct me. Thank You, bikinibeegee

I have a very similar problem to this person, (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic160500.html) except I am running Windows XP home edition.
I downloaded a file I presumed would be safe, scanned it with Mcafee before opening it and unwittingly installed Total Secure 2009.
My computer then froze up so I had to restart. On restart, I managed to scan using Mcafee and Ad-aware, Mcafee found RemAdm-Generic (C:\windows\system32\LMInit.dll), Ad-aware found a few PuP's I removed.
I then restarted again, and a new account had been created "Admin" and I couldn't open the task manager on other accounts.
I tried to run MBAM, but after 3-4ish minutes the computer logged me out, then froze on the login screen.
Anyone help out? I don't like having to restart every 3-4 minutes

A:Task manager - disabled, computer freezes up after a short period of time, "VIRUS ALERT!" on the right of clock

Had the day from hell with my computer, antivirus stopped working and my computer got infected. On safe mode with networking, I ran malwarebyte a couple times, cleaned most all of it out. When rebooting to windows, computer became super slow, like 5 minutes to open a window, etc. I had to force reboot a few times. But then I started getting a screen that demanded a reboot disk. Only one I have is. a windows vista disc. I had windows 7. It won't let me even get that blue startup screen where I can push f keys.
Can anyone give me some advice, or do I need to just get a new hard drive.

A:computer infected , cleaned, bsod, freezing, now computer wants boot disk

Welcme,
The problem isn't the hard drive, it's that you are still infected.
I'm going to ask a moderator to move this thread into Am I Infected so that you can work with one of the expert volunteers there to get your system cleaned correctly.

A:I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

Hey everybody weeks ago I decided to replace my old Win XP by a new Win The XP installation was already or more years old and Windows froze regularly I bought a new additional harddisk and installed Windows Professional which worked out quite good But since then Windows does not freeze anymore but nearly daily provides a Blue Screen with changing error codes and messages I installed all Windows updates I updated the video card and mainboard drivers as far as i could but nothing really helped until now By looking for hints about what to do I found this forum and well you all are my last hope for fixing it without having to buy a Regularly BSODs new PC Windows is - x - not the original installed OS on the Regularly BSODs system - a full retail version - the age of system hardware is about years - the age of OS installation is weeks I also just did scans with Antimalwary Avira AntiVirus and MS Security Essentials which all did not find any Virus Worm or Trojan The Documents zip attached contains Windows NT BSOD jcgriff and the System Health Report So maybe you can help me with that thanks a lot in advance

A:Regularly BSODs

Numerous errors in the perfmon report:
- an unknown device that isn't installed We'll have to figure this one out somehow - I suspect that it's the root of your problems (because it's malfunctioning)
- several Cisco AnyConnect VPN is disabled errors (please enable it, then uninstall it)
- numerous issues with Microsoft Security Essentials (please uninstall it, then install the latest available version)

Here's all the info on the unknown device from the MSINFO32 report:

Quote:
Unknown Device USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&C90B627&0&6 43

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)Locate the device in Device Manager, then disconnect your USB devices (one-by-one) until you find the offending device. If the device isn't identified, then it's gotta be one of your in-built devices - such as a webcam or media card reader. So test them also.

Way too many startup items for only 3 gB of RAM. I'd suggest pruning some of them with the Autoruns program that you downloaded to generate the reports.

My other suspicion is that this is caused by malware - so I'd suggest running a few of these free, online scans in case your current protection has been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Scanners (read the details at the link)

Also, please run these free hardware tests to rule out the most common hardware errors:

Quote:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

22 memory dumps from 14 to 31 May 2011
9 different BSOD error codes
9 (or more) different causes blamed
This is most likely a hardware error, but these types of errors can also be caused by compatibility issues, low-level drivers, or malware.

The most noticeable issue with the dump files is the age of your Acronis True Image drivers (from 2007). Please uninstall Acronis and leave it off until we're finished troubleshooting these issues.

Please do the following also:
OLDER DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
- Create a System Restore Point prior to doing any of this. DO NOT mess with the drivers themselves - leave the Windows\System32\drivers directory alone unless we specifically direct you to it!
- Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall them from your system. Reference links are included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
- Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
- Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers:

I just picked up a new computer today (second-hand), and I'm having some issues. It's running W7, and every time I turn it on, it will run for about 1 minute before it powers off. I've turned the cooling dial at the back on full, and still it does this... I cannot run anything, as it simply won't run. Here are the specs, and I'm not tech savvy so if you chaps could keep the answer as simple as possible that'd be great.

Intel Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.88GHz
3GB DDR3 RAM @ 1000MHz
1TB Primary HDD
250GB Secondary HDD
Thermaltech Watercooling
Thermaltech 800W PSU
ATI Radeon HD4670 w/1GB ded. RAM

Cheers!
