Q: Won't boot correctly after installing updates.

My sister installed about windows updates Vista on her computer She ended up with the font being messed up which I see now on the windows forum is a known problem She couldn't after correctly installing Won't updates. boot figure out how to fix it other than to restore back to before the updates Then she started installing the updates in sections She installed the Cumulative Security Won't boot correctly after installing updates. Update for Internet Explorer It said that she needed to restart to complete the update so she hit the button to restart It started to restart and but just sat there for about minutes or so So she hit the power button to turn it off and then turned it back on The windows icon appeared and the status bar fully loaded but then it just sat there on a blank screen We turned it off and on again and it still did the same thing I tried hitting F and it didn't do anything I hit F and it went to options but I have no clue what I should be doing in there if anything So can you help me What do I do now I've posted this on the windows forum but I wanted to try here as well Also I've tried a couple of times to hit F to boot in safe mode and it doesn't do anything I also hit F and it brought me to a boot menu I hit 'diagnostics' and it didn't do anything I then hit the Fn button and am doing the Pre-boot System Assesment It did the initial scan and it said nothing was wrong and asked if I wanted to continue with the rest I clicked yes but it hasn't finished yet

Preferred Solution: Won't boot correctly after installing updates.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Startup repair from the dvd did not work.

I did use this registry defrag program. wonder if that did something to the registry?

Free Registry Defrag

I generally avoid registry cleaning programs because I don't trust them. thought id try it once to see what happened. not sure if this caused the startup issue or something with the windows updates I installed caused it. I did do several restore points. would that help me fix the issue?

I have been having this problem for a couple of months now. I currently have 25 Important and 5 Optional Windows Updates downloaded onto my computer, but when I restart/shut-down, the updates fail. It usually ends with the message "Windows update failure; reverting (or reconfiguring) changes" or something like that. Then I can log in and use my computer like normal.
I have been ignoring the issue since everything was working until recently. I have started to notice things are slower (Internet Explorer, Chrome) and updates for Avast and other programs seem to get stopped before they can begin. For example, Avast is now telling me I have no internet connection, even though I am watching youtube videos while I try to update Avast.
Please let me know how to get these updates to install properly. I hope that fixing them will also resolve some of my other issues.

As of yesterday my HP Envy z- laptop acquired a hive error Unable to fix it I simply installed a clean boot of Windows In doing so the quot Recovery Partition quot that comes factory installed on the computer was formatted and I no longer have access to the Recovery options provided by HP I have contacted HP but they only encourage me to purchase the part Recovery Disc set The laptop boots perfectly into Windows Home Premium However a few devices do not have drivers according to the Device Manager including Ethernet Controller Network Controller PCI Device SM Bus Controller Universal Serial Bus Controller Since I am unable to connect to the internet I have been on two other computers correctly Windows 7 Premium, Fresh Home boot drivers installing not of downloading the drivers from the HP website for the HP Envy z- I figured the most important would be the Network Adapter driver so I downloaded the driver copied it to a flash drive plugged the flash drive into the Envy z- moved the driver to the desktop and ran it After going through the installation the SWSetup folder was created and inside it was the SP folder which contains all of the files from the installation Just as I normally would I reboot the laptop to reload the drivers hoping that the Network Adapter would be recognized but the adapter and its Fresh boot of Windows 7 Home Premium, drivers not installing correctly drivers is still not recognized According the HP the OS will constantly reject the installation of the drivers even though I get no errors so long as there is no recovery partition created by a recovery disc So I guess I am asking how on Earth can I get the drivers installed correctly so that the OS can recognize them Edit It should be noted that when I installed Windows Home Premium I installed it by creating a bootable USB install with the digitalriver ISO

A:PC won't boot after installing updates

Use the instructions below to get to the System Recovery Options.  In step 7b choose the System Restore option.  Choose a restore point prior to the downloads.  The instructions below include a download of a ISO image which can be used to create an installation disc.
A Windows 7 Repair Installation will require a installation disc.
If you do not have a Windows 7 installation disc you can download a free legal ISO image of Windows 7 SP1 at  Windows 7 Forums.  You will need to download the same version of Windows 7 that you have installed,  This image is hosted by the Digital River store which is an official distribution partner of Microsoft.  This is a genuine untouched image which is safe to download.
Attention:  If you do have a Windows installation disc, skip Part A and go to Part B, Step 1b.
Part A, Steps 1a - 6a
The ISO image will need to be burned to a DVD in order to create a bootable installation disc.
1a)  To burn a ISO file to a DVD please download ImgBurn and install it.
2a)  Insert a blank DVD into your CD/DVD drive tray, and then close the tray.
3a)  Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc.

4a)  Click on the Browse for a file icon:

5a)  Locate the ISO file you want to burn, and click on the Open button.
6a)  Click on the blue arrow to start burning the bootable DVD.

Please note:  In order to boot from this DVD you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS so that the CD/DVD-ROM is the first device in the boot order, and the hdd is the second device.
Part B, Steps 1b - 10b
1b)  Place the installation disc in the tray of the CD/DVD drive, close the tray and restart the computer.
2b)  You will be prompted to press any key to start the installation, I find the space bar handy.
At this point the setup process will load files, this will take several minutes.
3b)  You will now need to choose the  Language, Time, currency format, and Keyboard or input method that you'd like to use.
After this is done click on Next.

4b)  Click on the Repair your computer link at the bottom-left of the Install Windows window.
This link will begin the Windows 7 System Recovery Options.

5b)  System Recovery Options will now search your hard drive(s) for any Windows 7 installations.  This will take several minutes.
No participation is required on your part at this time, wait till it has finished and the next window opens.

6b)  Choose the Windows 7 installation that you'd like to perform the Startup Repair on, then click on Next

7b)  Click on the Startup Repair link from list of recovery tools in System Recovery Options.

For a future reference, there are several other diagnostic and recovery tools available in the Windows 7 System Recovery Options including System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, and Command Prompt.
8b)  The Startup Repair tool will now search for problems in the system files.
If Startup Repair finds a problem with any system files the tool may suggest a solution which you will need to confirm, or may solve the problem automatically.

9b)  Startup Repair will now attempt to repair whatever problems it found with system files.
Note:  If Startup Repair did not find any problems with system files you won't see this step.

Important: Your computer may or may not restart several times during this repair process.  This is normal, you should allow it to continue until you see the Restart your computer to complete the repairs window.
10b)  Click on Finish, this will restart your computer.

Pay attention to the pattern of those beeping noises you're hearing when you power it up. Your motherboard is probably trying to tell you something. You'll have to go to the manufacturer's documentation to interpret the beeps.

So the other day I installed Vista SP1 on my sister's laptop. It wen't through steps 1 and 2, then restarted. However, before it could get to step 3, it went to a black screen and with 251/60... flashing with others things. I tried restarting the computer and it said the computer couldn't boot. I tried the repair thing, but it didn't work. So I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled vista. The computer was fine. So I decided to run windows update. It downloaded everything and installed it, then restarted. But windows wouldn't boot again. I couldn't even enter safe mode. If I tried to select anything, it would just restart the computer and go to the same screen.

Did the vista updates screw up the computer? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

A:Laptop can't boot windows after installing updates

Try running chkdsk on the hard drive you're installing Windows on, to see if it comes up with any erros. Could be a problem with the boot sector.

A:Windows Vista Ultimate will not boot up after installing updates

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Was your gateway having any other issues before you updated it? Virus, infection of any type? Or was it just time to upgrade?

The reason that you might be getting that disc error is because that might be a recovery disc, not an installation disc.

Try inserting you vista install disc, make sure that you are booting from the DVD drive before the harddrive. Then, when you go to install, when you are looking to see what partion to install on, make sure that you erase, not format, erase the partion. This usually helps with installation errors.

A:Solved: Dual-booted Vista won't boot after installing updates

I was pretty sure there was no recovery from that mess that was created, so I went ahead and re-installed Vista. This time, I did a couple things differently. I didn't install any drivers (on the first go-through, I installed the chipset and video card drivers). Also, I went ahead and activated Windows this time (first time I didn't). Installing updates was successful this time. I installed a batch of about 41. Then, a couple more popped up, installed those. Finally, 1 more appeared and I installed that. After this, SP1 finally appeared in Windows Update. I tried installing it, and it went through all the motions. Downloaded and "installed" it in windows update, then it rebooted and did all of the configuring and installing with the 3 steps and everything. When it finally rebooted to Windows, a dialog box told me that the installation had failed. So, I downloaded the SP1 executable and tried installing it that way. Again, it went through all of the motions and seemed to be going fine, but it rebooted after Step 2 and upon reboot a black screen was displayed where it got stuck on this entry:

!! 0xc0000034 !! 30583/72488 (\registry\machine\schema\wcm://Microsoft...)Click to expand...

It just sits on this entry for hours before finally just displaying a black screen and I have to reboot. It then tells me Windows failed to start due to a hardware or software change, blah blah blah. I click Start Windows normally and it takes me to the same black screen where it eventually gets stuck on that same entry.

I've read several places online that Vista SP1 has difficulty installing on a dual-boot system, but they are all in reference to a Vista/Linux dual-boot. Does an XP/Vista dual-boot inevitably have the same issue?

Any ideas?

I have read many posts about problems due to the fact that after the installation of MS Updates the computer began to freeze, BSOD or just work slowly. The most usual cause is the fact that the updates are downloaded and installed at the same time. Many of these updates require restarting the computer. This fact causes conflicts and problems when the updates are not installed properly. Next week a large number of updates are expected, change your update settings to notify, only. Install manually, and one at a time. We rather you come to the forum giving help rather than seeking it.

Hi All,
I need to buy a new hard disk today and install Xp. Been a while since I've done that but I remember last time it asked me what sort of file system I wanted - FAT 32 etc etc - not really sure about that, any advice please? Also - do I need to format the disk first or will that get done as part of the install procedure??
Should I fully install all my cards - (network, firewire etc) before the install?
Thanks for any advice or links you may have.

A:Installing Xp Correctly

First thing you're going to want to do is get windows installed, I always choose fat32 mainly because that's the way my disk is.

If this is a brand new hard disk, it will already be clean of everything and all you have to do is install windows on it, You can format it through the installation program but its not needed

If you can before you install, burn as many programs drivers etc onto a disk to ensure that you can have everything without having to connect to the internet, that's if you can

upon installing windows you're going ot want to activate the firewall, and avoid doing any internet activity until windows is fully upgraded and all your drivers from your motherboard, cd drives or whatever you have is installed

once everything is updated and installed then you can proceed to use the internet again, and use it wisely to get whatever you need.. AVG, A firewall, Etc..

I wouldn't recommned you check e-mail or anything utnil you have an AV going, a spyware/malware program going, a firewall up, Etc... only then I would do things like that

Hi ppl. I have 2 problems:

1) I can't see Windows update tab as can you see from this picture:
Glowfoto :: Photo Sharingand second one I guess this is a very famous problem:

My computer every day without my permission turn off and trying to make some updates, like: 2 of 3 100% after that reloading makes 3 of 3 100% reloads and then writes me: updates were not configured correctly. reverting the changes. It happens every day!!!! I do some work and suddenly it turns off and trying to update something.. I turned off updates. Damn!!!! Vista, Solve it already!!!!! I see it's a very common problem as I surfed through the forums in Net. I already tried many solutions that i've found in net, like: restore point (doesn't work), updates were not configured correctly. REverting changes. ,
Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting Changes. Do not turn off your computer..

Please.Help me to solve it. I'm already exhausted.

It seems that every time that I boot up this laptop, it tries to configures updates that Windows Updater has installed. However, they always fail to configure, resulting in a 15-20 minute wait before getting to my login screen. Honestly, it gets annoying. I've tried doing multiple actions to resolve the problem: updating in a clean boot, attempting to delete the pending.xml files (there are about 292 of them!), running SFCHost, and I really do not want to System Restore this laptop. I couldn't even delete the pending.xml files due to administrative rights I could not surpass. I don't know anything else to attempt to fix the problem. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

When I turn my HP LaserJet CP1215 on, on a fresh install of Win 8 Preview the Printer Driver loading icon appears on the taskbar and the green shade goes across as if it's installing correctly. Looking in Control Panel/Printers and devices shows the printer installed and the properties shows the device is working correctly.

However when I try to print in any application no printer is shown, and trying to add a printer runs through the search and finds nothing.

What am I doing wrong? The printer works fine in win 7, any pointers or experiences would be much appreciated.

Thank for reading .. Barry

Hi Everybody,

I've been building computers and repairing computers for quite a while now, and today I came up with a problem that I have not experienced before.
It's really frustrating so I'm counting on fellow forum members to help me out on this situation.

Situation: Client asked to have the computer reformatted. Everything was working fine, but he had windows 7, and his computer wasn't handling it too well.

I booted CD-Rom with Windows XP SP3. Good
Deleted Partition of the Old OS. Good
Installed Windows OS onto the new partition. Good
Computer Reboots itself after 100%. Good
After the Reboot, The Computer stays on "Boot from CD:" Bad
Usually, You'd wait that off, and it will continue on to windows.

I think i just figured out what i did wrong. Im going to go try it ott.

I used this site: to pick any other files I would need to install. The site also says that the path to GCC is /usr/local/bin, but the bin directory, and the lib and etc directory also in the local folder, are empty. Can someone please help me?

So i click on the link and download flash, and it says successful download everytime but when i go back to the player, the same message about having to download flash appears.

I thought maybe it would be a problem with IE, so i tried it on mozilla firefox and this time ti asked me to download Move Media Player, so i did that.. but again the same message appears about having to download Move Media Player again. is this a problem with the website or my computer? can you try it on your computer to see if the abc player works? heres the link

Hey guys,

My PC was working correctly this morning and then when I came home from work and turned it on the machine doesnt load past the bios splash screen. Sometimes the one screen pops on after that says some info with the drives, ram etc but it turns black quickly with a little white line that flashes on or off in the top left like a command prompt but I cant type in anything. CTRL ALT DELETE does nothing (makes it go completely black). If I go into bios it sees all my drives correctly and the priority 1 is set to my SDD which has windows 7 on it. Theres no disc in the cd drive or usb sticks, etc. I even unplugged the cd disk drive and main HDD so theres only 1 boot possibility and I get the same result...

Any thoughts?

Hello I am hoping someone can provide some assistance in getting rid of this BSOD problem Here is what happened I was using two driver update programs One called Driver Booster by Iobit and the other called Slimdrivers I updated various drivers including Nvidia which I had previously uninstalled but it kept popping up so I just let it go The next thing I know after that is installed and there were no more drivers left to install I ran Windows Update and it also wanted to installed Nvidia again NVidia other updates and BSOD installing updates after driver I didn't have much choice in the matter before I knew it it was installing and I had to restart my computer When the computer turned on again I used it for a little while then it started to overheat something terrible The computer was so hot I thought it was going to start on fire Almost as soon as it started overheating I got the BSOD and within a second it restarted or shut down I can't remember which The fan was running at top speed but that still wasn't enough I could have cooked an egg on the backside of this thing So the next day I started the computer up again and I uninstalled Nvidia completely using Iobit's Uninstaller to remove all traces of it in my computer But the other problem I have now is that it still runs dangerously hot within a few hours I've uploaded the BSOD after installing NVidia updates and other driver updates zip file as per the instructions There must be some kind of conflict going on Any help is greatly appreciated

A:BSOD after installing NVidia updates and other driver updates

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup program before you upload another zip.

You could try the installations in Safe Mode with Networking, but run Windows Updates and it should give you SP1.

Hello and welcome Faticus just as matter of interest why did you give up on the SSD? was not it under warranty?

That is heck of a drive to be installing on mate just how did you prepare it for the install?

You can run a chkdsk in Windows too > My Computer > right click on the drive > Properties > Tools > Check now - then follow the points in my pic.
You then reboot and it will start a chkdsk (in DOS).

A:Cannot Complete Installing Updates, or Check for New Updates HELP

Hello dlolley and welcome to Seven Forums.

According to the Advanced SystemCare diagnose report you provided there seems to be a problem with something called Tuneup 2012 or Tuneup Utilities. I'm not sure if this is a different product from Advanced SystemCare that generated your report or if Tuneup 2012 is a part of Advanced SystemCare. In any case, these tuneup utilities can cause major damage to operating system files, the registry, etc. I would suggest uninstalling them. Windows 7 isn't like XP which required constant tweaking to work right.

Then I would run a full anti-virus scan with your installed anti-malware suite. No anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a thing we'd all be using it. So after running that scan I would follow up with some additional scans using these free tools. Don't forget to update the data bases before running the scans.:

ESET Online Scanner

Windows Defender Offline

If the scans come back clean you could try rolling back your computer to a date/time prior to the update problems using system restore. I would also run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

System Restore

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

When you're finished with the above you can try installing the updates again. Do not use the automatic update setting. Use the setting called Never Check For Updates (Not Recommended). That will be in Step 3 of this tutorial:

Windows Update Settings - Change

When you manually check for updates install them just a few at a time (maybe 3 - 5 at a time.) Keep track of the KB numbers. After installing the first group, restart the computer. If no problems are noted install the next group and restart. If problems do occur you'll know which group to uninstall. Install the updates from that group one at a time and reboot after each one. They'll either all install OK or you'll know which specific update is at fault. Leave that update for last. Continue installing the remaining groups rebooting after each group is installed. This is a much slower process but usually results in a clean install (providing the tuneup utilities you've used haven't caused additional issues.)

The newest release of this driver is version After installing, my computer restarts and everything is fine. My problem occurs after a couple of days (I think it is caused when I switch power plans or unplug laptop) the power saving technology in the Intel graphics control panel is turned on even though I have the setting disabled. This setting is very annoying because on a white background the brightness is normal, but when on a darker background the brightness gradually decreases. Also when looking in Intel graphics control panel it says I have driver version Even though I have installed the newest update.

Side note I have the windows power option turned off for adaptive brightness

Hi first thing to check - is the Ram [memory]
Turn the computer off and disconnect it from the power
Take off the side of the case and touch the bare metal chassis to discharge static.
Remove Ram from their slots

Plug in the RAM [one stick at a time].
Also try different slots.
Ensure it is seated correctly.

While you are doing that..
Reseat Video card.
Check Hard drive and Motherboard connections [IDE]
Take them off and reseat them.

I am running Windows XP Professional, and after installing new RAM recently I encountered a problem. I found out it was because I had the wrong memory module for my motherboard. Now I have the correct memory module installed, but XP won't boot. I get through the BIOS screen, and then I get a screen that asks if I want to load the OS in Safe Mode, Last Known Good Settings, or Load Windows Normally. None of the options work - any one I choose gives me a blank screen with a white bar on the bottom, or sometimes just a blank screen. I disconnected all peripherals and left just the monitor and keyboard attached. I've heard that I can try to reboot the OS from a CD, but I don't want to do that unless I have to. I also don't want to mess with the BIOS too much as that seems to be OK. What should I do next?

A:XP won't boot correctly

do a repair
set the comp. to boot from cd first in the bios
pop in the xp cd and reboot
choose install
ignore the first repair option and continue with install
when windows finds the previous installation
then choose repair
you will have to reload sp1 and any ms updates and probably your video drivers

Updates alter MBR? of these updates the next time I booted up I got the usual opening screen Dell logo F Set Up F Boot Options then Win10 Updates prevent offline boot? Updates alter MBR? the screen goes black and then nothing - the screen stayed black Normally it then goes to 'Starting Windows' yada yada log-in screen appears sign in off we go So after nothing I tried again and nothing F BIOS change the settings and nothing Tried all sorts of BIOS settings and nothing F advanced nothing Couldn't reach the log-in screen no sign of 'Starting Windows' After about half an hour - various BIOS settings making no difference at all - I made a cup of tea and thought 'Well that's that then ' The previous weeks had been 'GWX GWX You want Win Yes you do ' but my approach was to leave it a bit -wait until after the initial fanfare had died down any early bugs fixed and check out the feedback after a few months of people using Win proper Which made me think 'I wonder if this is something to do with Windows ' So I plugged in the USB dongle and pressed the 'on' button Lo and behold After the Dell screen a little M logo and a loading bar appear Starting Windows Log-in screen I sign in desktop appears and BOINK Up pops a GWX ad Those with home or work PCs probably leave everything connected -internet etc when they power down so the next time they boot up again with connections all in place they may not notice anything wrong with the boot just log in as normal and see the GWX ad People with mobile internet or with limited data -who only connect when needed -may have experienced this -their PC laptop not booting -but not realized that it's just a GWX ad - an installed 'update' -preventing the boot up process I think this was a result of installing the Win app KB but not sure It may even have been that this didn't take effect straight away the next time I booted up - or if it had a delay - tasked as a prompt or 'reminder' cos my response to any Win stuff had been zero Conspiracy theory time So what is this I bought Win - M already have my money Maybe I didn't read the very very small print but upon purchase I wasn't made aware that at some future date M would disable Win the OS I paid for granting access only if I accepted an online ad for their new product Over the next few days after reading the 'Remove Win KB AllStars' thread and after finding out a lot more about what M have been up to pushing Win I uninstalled some of the updates - first to go were KB and the mentioned KB Uninstalling required a restart Press restart shuts down as normal and nothing Change settings in the BIOS and nothing Connect the USB internet dongle and nothing All I got was the splash screen it goes black then either it just stayed black or one of several messages appeared on the black screen - 'boot manager is missing' was the most common one but I also got 'operating system is missing' a few times Using what turned out to be invaluable - Hiren's Boot Disc - I eventually found the core of the problem - the Master Boot Record MBR had been altered Now I don't go round messing with the system files or the boot up files - you do that and your system doesn't work - well duh - what do you expect So I leave them be How did it change then All I can think of is the update - I hadn't made any hardware changes or reconfigured anything and not installed any oth... Hello All,

I was referred here by NeonFx from the TechGuy Security forum. He had me run a slew of anti-virus/anti-spyware diagnostics. According to NeonFx my system is currently infection free and he states the problem lies elsewhere.

He also had me run the Windows Update FixIt tool in both Default and Aggressive mode - both of which did not fix the problem. So what is the problem??

When I run the install Windows updates, the updates do not install, and I receive the following message (not verbatim, but close):

"Some updates were unable to be installed..."

This problem "came out of no where" and there has been no suspicious activity prior to it starting other than an IE7 redirect rootkit that NeonFx helped me remove (if I recall correctly an infection of agp440)...

Stumped, stumped and stumped...

When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. Hello. I'm running Windows 8.1 on my Surface Pro 2. I have this problem every now and then: I turn on my computer, and I'm greeted with the Start screen. Everything seems normal until I try to go online. All my wireless connections, WiFi, Bluetooth, are not available. My desktop background is black with "Windows 8.1 Pro" on the bottom right hand corner. I open Control Panel and it's empty. The option to turn on Bluetooth and wifi is also empty. When I go to settings, there is no Bluetooth toggle. Anything to do with the system like Control Panel, device Manager, Manage networks is all empty. The folders are there, but when I click on them, they are empty. This happens every once in a while, but it freaks me out. I have to restart my computer, and that seems to take care of the problem. Does anyone know how to not make this happen anymore?

A:Windows 8.1 will not boot up correctly

Sounds like a memory issue, if system files and folders disappear like that. It shouldn't say Windows 8.1 pro, because that would indicate that Windows isn't activated. If all your WiFi settings disappear when getting online, that's either memory, or a virus. Do an Antivirus scan, and check to see if Windows is activated.

How long have you had the Surface Pro 2? If its under warranty you may want to use it and get it repaired.

When I boot my computer, the monitor just stays black, then the pc beeps once and a wierd voice says something through the speakers which i cant understand for the likes of me (its too fast and static-y).

im able to HEAR everything being booted up perfectly. I can hear the XP welcome music and hear the beginning services being started up. When i press the button to turn it off (since its still all black) i hear the shut down music.

WHAT HAPPENED!! please help. i need my comp more than ever right now.

is there any way i can reset all the mobo settings on the mobo itself? help!

A:plz HELP pc wont boot correctly

Unplug the system and wait a few hours (30 mins)... While you wait check the monitor connections to see if any pins are bent. See if the power you connect to is faulty. Check all connects and don't do it in dim room.

If everything checks out okay try to turn it back on again. If you can reset the Monitor back to factory.

When you boot-up the system right after press F8 a few times then put the system in SAFE MODE. See if you can get into that and something should show up.

What were you doing prior when this was happening?

Recently my computer has stopped booting up correctly. When I turn it on, the boot screen comes up fine. Then the Windows XP logo. Then the screen goes blank. After about 30 seconds of a blank screen, the cursor will show up. However, nothing else shows up, like the login screen. After about two minutes, the background of the login screen will show up, but not the login screen itself. It just hangs at this point.

I have tried doing a system restore to a restore point from earlier this week, however, it still hangs at the background of the login screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Windows will not boot correctly

That's not strange in XP that's why backup programs are very important, XP's System Restore isn't enough.. You might have installed too many programs/applications. A virus may also cause such problems.

I would recommend using a LiveCD now to backup all of your important files somewhere in the disk and reinstall WinXP to have a fresher system.

You don't want to solve it the hard way unless you really want to be an expert.

a complete shutdown so the next time it boots it will reread the registry.
Checking the bios won't hurt though.

OK so I installed a game on steam and then about seconds into the game my screen froze Nothing would respond so I turned off the computer Then when I went to turn it back on it took forever for the computer to POST Then when CD XP boot correctly will but MBR broken, not it MBR broken, but XP CD will not boot correctly did it got stuck on quot Verifying DMI pool data quot So I figure my MBR is bad I'll just get a xp oem disc and boot to the CD and fix the MBR So I make boot to CD ROM the only option in my BIOS Then when it posts it says press any key to boot from CD Then I got this swedish message after I pressed a key tryck ned valfri tangent om du vill starta med cd-skiven which translates to press any key to start with CD-ROM So then I hit a Key and I was expecting the XP setup stuff to pop up so I could hit R for Repair and do fixmbr But instead it loaded into my OS and it booted up like normal So I really feel like it MBR broken, but XP CD will not boot correctly is the MBR that is corrupted and I want to fix it but that's the only way I know how to fix the MBR The OS is installed on a WD IDE drive The motherboard is a Biostar TF SLI I have windows XP SP and I was using a windows xp sp disc I just think it is really weird that it booted up to my XP installation Any thoughts

A:MBR broken, but XP CD will not boot correctly

OK, since it let me in windows i downloaded the biostar flashing utility and cleared the cmos and installed the latest mb firmware. Then when i restarted i was able to boot to the cd-rom and put in c:/fixmbr and c:/fixboot . Now the computer still gets a disk boot error unless the windows xp CD is in the drive. When I leave the CD in the drive and do not hit any key to boot to CD, then the computer boots to xp correctly. But if i take the CD out then i get the disk boot error.

A:My computer won't boot up correctly

My thoughts being that the electricity went out it could have caused a surge and in turn did some damage...However if your running in safe mode the damage could be from your video card only... that would be a good thing or none of the above... sorry about that!

So when I came back from class today, my computer was off and so I turned it on. It never got passed what seems to be the BIOS screen (I don't actually know what it is, but that's what I think it is).

I have a Predator G Series G5900, with no modifications.

Attached is the photo of the screen I have when I turn on the computer.

What I have tried:
- Unplug every USB device and take off the power supply. Hold the power button for 30 seconds. Reboot.
Thanks in advance,

A:Computer won't boot up correctly. Please help!

Windows 8.1/Linux Mint
I’ll try and explain as briefly & simply as possible.
My boot order is ODD/USB/HD, boot speed normal & Secure boot disabled
but when i try to boot a disk you can hear the drive activate, start to spin slowly
and then full speed by this time Windows has already loaded on the desktop.
I tried and tried but without success.
But then a curious thing happened!!
While I was still in Windows and the disk was still in the drive but not
running I went to my PC Settings navigated to the UEFI screen and entered
the BIOS/UEFI. I checked all the settings again and it is as above and when I
click to exit the disk bursts into life and boots into ‘Linux’ in this case.
Any help or advice appreciated

A:Boot sequence not working correctly

Look in UEFI for a setting called Legacy or CSM boot. Not many disks can boot with UEFI enabled even with SecureBoot disabled.
What is the make and model of the computer. Most modern computers can access a boot menu at startup that will let you pick the boot device.

Boot the Windows 7 install DVD and run Startup Repair up to 3 times. That should fix it: See here: Startup Repair

If you do not have a Windows 7 installation DVD, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River.
Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file.

You can do this on any computer capable of burning a DVD.

For techies or folks who work on computers: Create Windows 7 Universal ISO With All Editions Selection On Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility.
This will fit on a 6GB flash drive or can be burned to a DVD.

The COA sticker on your computer will tell you what version of Windows 7 you have, but it's most likely Home Premium, but it may be 32 or 64 bit.

I set my Win7 Pro computer to a static IP. Reboot and the computer can't get to the network, forget the internet. Give it a DHCP IP, then immediately give it the static it had and it works fine.

What is the fix for this ridiculous issue?

If there is no fix, does anyone know a script I can have run at startup that sets the NIC to DHCP, then back to the static I want?

A:Win7 still can't boot with static IP correctly?

Are you certain that you are setting the IP and the Netmask properly? What are you using?

A few days ago I awoke to see that my computer had frozen up I thought nothing about it and decided to go ahead and restart but quickly noticed that the computer would not boot up at all It managed to access the Windows XP loading with a single bar but there was no further activity After performing an additional restart nothing would happen the power is functioning correctly or so it seems but the monitor remained blank and there was no further activity I noticed that the light often found below or near the power switch which blinks when the PC is in activity didn t light up or boot correctly. not BIOS? Won't will even Computer get to blink at all either I m at a loss of what to do I suspected the power supply unit ceased to function correctly and had replaced that with a brand new one which is an exact replica of the old one The computer is fairly old but it has proven dependable with the exception of this incident Here are the specs I m running Windows XP HP Pavilion AMD Athlon GHz GB Hard Drive ASUS A V-VM Motherboard GeForce MX - X MB DDR GB RAM Again I cannot even access a BIOS setup screen since there is no display Simply starting the computer yields nothing but it is being powered correctly I can hear the fans turning as if it were normally on and the power supply was even just recently replaced I have heard that resetting the CMOS settings might help me access BIOS but I don t know how to do that nbsp

Please refrain from asking for help from others while you are being instructed by someone helping you elsewhere. Any modifications you make can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. If you had posted your log here, similar rules would apply. We would ask that you refrain from asking for help elsewhere.
