Hello, I have a Dell Precision M4500 laptop which stopped recognizing the battery a couple months back. I have had the laptop for one year now with absolutely no problems up until this happened. I am pretty sure the battery is still good, it's not that old, but since the computer wont even recognize it is in, there's no way to check if it can charge. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, maybe there is a fix before I have to shell out the money for a new battery.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Laptop batteries go bad any time, and they are considered to be "consumable" like paper is to a printer. Replace the battery and you should be okayhttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/dell-precision-m4500-stopped-recognizing-battery.182128/
I just got a new M4500 with a Samsung PM800 64GB SSD and a Toshiba 7200RPM storage drive. Both of these drives are set to non-RAID. I noticed when I went into the BIOS that it was set to RAID On instead of AHCI, even though there is no RAID setup between the two drives.
I ran the CrystalDiskUtility and the most it eeks out is at 94%. The built in Performance Utility in Windows 7 currently measures at 6.7
I was told an SSD should equal out to close to 100% and at least 7.0 as benchmarks if I want to utilize all the performance it offers. Is this the best that it can do?
Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks.
RAID On is the default SATA controller setting in some BIOS, even with one HD,.
Try AHCI first for install.

I have a brand new to me refurbished Precision M that I purchased from Dell This laptop came with Windows Pro bit OS Gb ram gig HD bios is A I have plans to install a larger hard drive Gb Ram and Widows Pro bit OS The reason for OS change is because I have heard that the bit version will not recognize more than Gb of ram The first day that I had it the machine would not wake up from hibernation I checked online and found out that update will not Bios Precision M4500 A07 A08 to from this is one of reasons for the A version bios According to bios update instructions I am supposed to install A before jumping to A which is the latest version I have downloaded and tried to install the A several times now I have tried to Precision M4500 Bios will not update from A07 to A08 run as administrator and every other way that I can think of except for a bootable DOS flash drive which I do not yet have The executable starts and I get yes or no dialog from Widows also get warning to close programs from update exe click OK then nothing happens The bios is not password protected because I am able to access it on boot without a password I am new to this forum and hope that I have posted in the right area Any help that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated I did not get a warranty with this refurbished laptop so I am left to my own devices I have read in another laptop forum about someone else who is having the same problem with the same machine I am tempted to just do the jump to A but I am afraid that I might render the system inoperable Thank you for any input that you might have
Thanks for the post. I would first suggest checking in the BIOS currently installed on your system if the Signed Firware update (opt in) in the BIOS can be found under the security settings and is listed as "Signed Firmware Update". Once this feature is turned on, it cannot be disabled.
If this setting is enabled the system will checks all BIOS updates are dell signed prior to completing installation, If for some reason the .exe file is not signed or corrupted, the installation will fail.
If the setting is disabled. Have you been able to try reinstalling A07 or even flashing back to a previous version before upgrading to A08?
If the setting is enabled. I would suggest downloading the A08 file again to make sure the version already downloaded was not corrupted in its original download.
For more information on the signed driver settings and BIOS updates see below:
1. Please note that if the A01 BIOS is currently installed on your system you must first apply the P02 patch (M4500P02.EXE) before upgrading to this BIOS. P02 BIOS link: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=R271142
2. Please note that if the A07 or before A07 BIOS is currently installed on your system you must first update to A08 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS. A08 BIOS link: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=J2M4W
3. Please note that if the A09 or before A09 BIOS is currently installed on your system you must first update to A10 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS. A10 BIOS link: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=R3GXK
Intel I7 CPU - Original problem was BIOS did not detect the SATA drive. I could access the drive on another computer and see three partitions under ‘Disk Management’. I formatted the Primary Partition on another computer as NTFS. BIOS now sees the SATA drive and I see three partitions when I try to load Windows. Error – “Windows cannot be installed on this drive. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. Default BIOS sets drive to RAID. AHCI gives same results. Same error when USB drive with Windows loaded on it is selected as target for installation.
The Windows 7 bootable USB needs to be FAT32 formatted and setup for the GPT partition scheme using the likes of Rufus. See here for details:
It also has to be 64 Bit. 32 Bit is not supported with GPT.
I noticed this officially a couple of days after it happened. I believe it happened while setting up a Sony nw-875 and setting up its drivers and downloading the SonicStage software. I noticed then that it was calling the nw-e75 the d:. Then upon further inspection last night the cd drive is not recognized by anything and I have no idea why, no drops or anything. The ediag doesn't recognize it or the device manager. I also noticed that the computer turns off immediately after unplugging, while the battery is old and sucks I would believe that it would have atleast enough charge for me to change seats.
I have a Dell Precision M70 laptop. My question is about my battery. The battery is brand new and it holds a 3 hour charge for quite a while. My question is that when I shutdown my system and then try to start it up using the battery and no AC power it won't turn on. If I plug the AC power cord in with power, then the laptop will boot up. While in windows I can unplug the AC cord and run on the battery which has a full 3 hour charge. Should I take the battery out and use an eraser on the contact points? Or is there some setting I have overlooked? Or should I shutdown the laptop with the AC cord unplugged to boot up with the battery? I am lost at this point because the battery is good. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm having the exact same issue here. I'm wondering, there were 2 fingerprints to select when buying the laptop. I got the cheaper one. Would the expensive one be one which is supported by the biometrics framework?http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19345786
My Dell Precision M3800 system says that the battery charging has been temporarily disable. But, I can't find a way to enable it. Whenever I unplug the power brick from the system, the system shuts down. I have to carry the power brick in the last several weeks. Please help.
Thank you for writing to us!
We would suggest you to first flash the BIOS. If that doesnt fix the issue that there could be a problem with the battery and the my system board.

I have a Dell Precision M6600 and I just installed a new battery. It all seemed fine a couple of hours ago, but now there is a red cross sign next to the battery icon and the power is dropping fast. It displays this even when fully charged. The battery seems to be genuine, it was bought from a trust worthy retailer.
I would very much appreciate any advice on how to deal with this.
I have a dell m6700 laptop with AMD M6000 graphics. Battery seems to be dead. Running on Direct AC power.
Couple of days ago, the laptop booted on Intel HD 4000, windows device manager saying GPU is disconnected - visible under hidden devices.
On running boot time Dell Diagnostics, it clearly said that the battery is not able to supply power to the GPU.
I removed the battery and still the laptop boots on Intel HD 4000. GPU missing. There have been couple of times when the bios did detect the GPU. Totally random.
Now the bios is only booting on Intel HD even on direct AC Power (battery removed). HDMI port does not work either, VGA is working. Weird.
Tested on two original dell AC adapters.
Any idea why the GPU won't start when on direct AC power?
This problem appear at all Dell models...from our experience specially after a dc power jack replacement the laptop doesn't recognize the batery or AC-DC adapter...we try reseting the bios by removing the CMOS batery, didn't fix it...the only fix we found so far it's a replacement ac adapter or battery...it worked in all cases...the place to buy it...the cheaper but not the safer...ebay...buy it on your risk...if further solution found pls reply back or place an inquire at www.nydatapc.com
power adapter lead gone off when pug in the laptop but the laptop wont turn on. dell d 610. what do i do pls.
This happened once before.
I somehow got it back by reapplying the IDT drivers.
However, now seems as though I can't get those drivers to install (error message is hardware not supported by drivers, which it was before and working). Within the device manager, when attempting to update drivers, error comes up saying that the "co-installer" needs to do something.
This seems to have corrected itself after a reboot, of all things!
Driver happy now.
I'm wondering if there are any recommended external extended runtime battery options for the 7710 series laptop.
I see dell now has some external add-on battery options for longer runtime for the 5510 -- the Dell Power Companion 1800 mAh
but I assume it must not have sufficient output for the 17" 7700 series.
Is there an equivalent product for the 7700 series? I'd like to add 12 hours of runtime for a location that may have a few power outages a year and wouldn't mind buying a couple or few of these devices if there were one which was compatible.

Dell Precision M6400 Win7 64 bit Dell Webcam Central Software.
Long story short, just purchased a M6400, upgraded after purchase with SSD, clean install. Cant Find Win7 64 bit Dell Webcam Central Software.
Please help, no I cant go in to my account and download due to my laptop transfer has not yet cleared.
Webcam is recognized in windows configuration, but not in dell. Already removed win software, but I have no way or nothing to replace with.
If the webcam is not working, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the webcam drivers.
To uninstall the Dell webcam central software, perform the following steps:
Click Control Panel.
Using the drop-down menu next to View by: in the upper-right corner, select Large Icons.
Click Programs and Features.
Click Dell Webcam Central.
Confirm the uninstall process by clicking OK.
Once uninstalled restart the computer.
I have provided a link below to reinstall the webcam drivers.
Awaiting your response!
I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600. The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?
thanks for any help, david
The online store does not give a replacement M6500 battery if you live in Australia (as I do). It is listed for the US (link). How can I get a replacement battery?

Hi i have a dell inspiron 6400 laptop with windows xp, they system is about 2 1/2 years old.
For some reason the system will no longer recognize the battery even though it is connected fine and working. When i click on the power meter tab it says it is running on ac power and that no battery is installed. I then unplug the AC adapter and the screen dims and all the settings for when battery power is in use turn on. I then check the power meter and it says it is still running on AC power. I have no way of seeing how much power is in my battery or how much time I have till the system just shuts off.
Anyone ever dealt with anything like this before?
Are you able to try another battery just to rule out the one you have isn't faulty?

I installed the maximum 4GB of RAM into my Dimension months ago, been working fine, now I turn on the computer and it says system memory has changed, press f2 to run setup. I did so but the memory section says fields can't be changed, and when I run the computer now it says it has only 3GB of RAM.
Your board probably only supports 3gb of RAM. Thats the issue.
Go to crucial.com, run a system scan and post the results here.
I suspect that it was because it was unplugged with out going though the Safely Remove Hardware dialog. Anyone know of a way to recover it? XP refuses to see it at all.

After about 1 1/2 years my computer ceased to "see" my TDK CD drive. I moved this drive to a lower bay, and it was recognized by the computer and works. In the "upper location" it did not show up in device manager, but did so in the lower location. In this location a different power supply and data ribbon were used So I suspect something like an IRQ conflct, that is a software problem, rather than hardwire like a data ribbon. I suppose there could be something "haywire" with a registry entry. I would appreciate some suggestions on how to go about diagnosing the problem.
Thank you, bmarshall

One day my main desktop stopped recognizing my external 2.5 HD (uses to 2 usb ports for power). Even in "disc management" its not recognized, but the interesting thing is, all other usb devices work perfectly even all thumb drives.
I originally thought my HD was starting to fail, but later realized it worked on my laptop and htpc. Both computers recognized the external drive w/ no problems 100% of the time.
Things Ive done since:
1.Reformat main desktops HD and reinstall windows 7 (32)
2.Reformatted external HD (did it on the laptop)
3. Tried all usb ports with same result
* In the Bios, under "usb config". The drive IS recognizable. But when windows starts up, nothing happens.
But my main desktop still wont read or recognize my external drive.
Im guessing its my motherboard (Asus P5KC) or PSU thats giving me the problems?
Is my external drive not getting enough power?
Is there any other way to trouble shoot this?
Go to disk management and see if it is recognized there.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/172661-pc-stopped-recognizing-my-external-hd-but-other-pc-laptops-still-do.html
For whatever reason, my computer has stopped recognizing whenever I click my mouse. However, this problem seems isolated to only one user as none of the others have any issues.
I've run virus scans but I can't find anything out of the ordinary, so now I'm unsure what to do.
It almost seems to be timed but it always gives out whenever I start up a media file (music, a movie etc.) As you can imagine this is very frustrating as I have to restart my computer whenever it gives out.
The strangest part is that I can still move my mouse as normal and use the keyboard perfectly. Please let me know how I can fix this
I restored Windows using the CD some time ago. Ever since then, I have not been able to get any kind of removable media to work with it.
I have both a USB flash drive and a SD card reader, which are both recognised by Device Manager and Disk Management, but haven't been assigned a drive letter. Whenever I try to do it in Disk Management, it won't show up in My Computer.
Someone please help me!
Not exactly sure when the problem started, but I've noticed that my HP laptop is no longer recognizing CDs or DVDs. The drive shows up fine in My Computer. I can even eject it from there & can hear the drive as if there is a disc in there. I have tried reinstalling from the device manager but to no avail. I'm running Vista Home Premium as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Configure the BIOS boot order to CD before hard disk. Put a known-good bootable disk into the drive and restart the computer. If it boots from the CD, you have a Windows problem. If not, you need to replace the DVD drive.

Hello, this morning my pc worked fine, I left it alone for a few hours and when I turned it on again my screens were black. The pc is not recognizing my GF8500 GT. I downloaded and tried to install a new driver but the installation software does not recognize the card either.
i had that couple times, when my video card came out just enough to not make good connection due to thermal cycling (heating and cooling), it worked fine after reseating the card. If that's not the case, then the card may have failed. Also maybe search Google for "reflowing Nvidia video card" and "faulty nvidia cards". Don't remember details and not sure if your card is affected , since I'm more of ATI guy, but there was a lawsuit and a lot of stink about some Nvidia cards with faulty soldering inside the GPU. Good luck fixing it.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/333362-my-pc-stopped-recognizing-my-video-card.html

I found one morning that Windows got stuck on the Welcome Screen. Eventually I installed the newest RAID Driver from Intel (instead of the old one from Dell I had) and now I can get into Windows normally. However, the second HDD still doesn't show up either in BIOS or Windows Disk Management. However, it does seem to appear in the Intel Rapid Storage Applet. What should I do?
Hello ayeshaf. Welcome to the forum.
Sorry, more questions than answers:
Are you running (or have you ever run) a RAID array?
Are these RAID drivers a combination AHCI/RAID package, or is there a separate AHCI driver available?
What do you have on the secondary drive? Is the data backed up? If you lost it would it ruin your day?
If you go into the BIOS(UEFI) settings, do you see the second hard drive there?
summary of problem. Running HP Compaq Presario..Windows XP Home edition.
Thursday I went to plug in digital Camera via cord to USB Prot#2. Message said device malfunctioned.
Tried again. No change (I have used same port, same device many times before ...no problem)
decided to Uplug my HP Printer, and try Dig Camera in USB Port #1.. Same Problem...
NEXT was big surprise, decided camera may be damaged so went to re-attach HP Printer and NOW IT says Printer has malfunctioned.. same message..
later tried Flash Memory Stick.. Surprise... same error...
Even HP Tech support agrees it is not hardware but software problem...
any suggestions, since I tried searching through Windows Tech Support... little help so far... so thought I would try here... my first attempt.
This is my first post on this forum. I have a Dell Deminsion 8400 which I recently upgraded to 4 GB memory. The computer is running fine, but it now does not recognized the cd dvd drives. On boot up I get an message "not reading drives 4 and 5" I can press F1 to bypass and the computer boots up. I tried upgrading to latest bios, but that did not help. I am running WindowsXp home edition and I have the latest updates installed. Can someone please help me on this? Thanks.
The 'Standard' first thing to try is outlined here:

For whatever reason, my computer has stopped recognizing whenever I click my mouse. However, this problem seems isolated to only one user as none of the others have any issues.
I've run virus scans but I can't find anything out of the ordinary, so now I'm unsure what to do.
It almost seems to be timed but it always gives out whenever I start up a media file (music, a movie etc.) As you can imagine this is very frustrating as I have to restart my computer whenever it gives out.
The strangest part is that I can still move my mouse as normal and use the keyboard perfectly. Please let me know how I can fix this!
You need to try to do a scan for spyware instead of virus try this program called X-Cleaner from X-Cleaner Spyware Remover and Privacy Protection Software. you can try to save all your files and delete your profile and create a new one.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f284/computer-has-stopped-recognizing-when-i-click-123798.html
Hello. My 1300a dvd burner has stopped recognizing dvd media. Windows 98 now sees this drive as cd-rom only. This drive has worked fine for nearly two years without a problem. The other day I tried making a copy of my kids' Dora The Explorer dvd. But having them run around me and bumping into me, I accidently started two instances of CloneDVD, versions 1398 and 2094. After that, the dvd drive got amnesia and no longer remembered how to read dvd media. I uninstalled both versions, physically disconnecting the drive from my pc, reinstalling Windows 98, and upgrading the 1300a's firmware -- still the problem persists. Ironically, the drive has no problems with cd media. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
Could be the dvd laser len.
I have had a sony cd burner that stopped writing due to lack of power. Try yours in another PC.
I have a Digital Max DRW-3S163. My problem is the drive will not recognize audio cd's or blank cd-r's. When I insert one into the drive it says no disc is in the recorder. It will play dvd's and recognize blank dvd's but not audio. I uninstalled the drive, opened up the case, checked the connections and restarted the computer but still will not work. And DigitalMax's website is no longer running so I am out of luck there. Anyone with anyhelp I'd appreciate it. I am running Windows XP. Thanks!!!

Hello,I have just bought a dell precision. When I try to switch it on nothing happens. The charger seems to be working as the light at the end of the cable lights up. There is no feedback at all from the laptop. I do not know if there is supposed to be some light lighting up on the laptop to indicate that the laptop is switched on. I am trying to leave it charging to see if it works at some point in time. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help. Thanks for your time.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19989818
Hello,I have just bought a dell precision 5510 laptop. The laptop is not turning on at all. The charger looks like it is working since the light at the end of the power chord is lit. Having said that there is no visual feedback that the laptop is getting any electricity. I am not sure if there is any light that is supposed to light up if it is getting the required power. I would appreciate any help on the matterThanks a lot Markhttp://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19989826
I am working on a Dell Precision 360. A friend brought it to me after taking it to a computer "repair" place, because the man there told him it could not be fixed. When I first turned computer on i got "ABC" GREEN AND "D" AMBER which tol me that there was another issue with the computer. WHen i opened the CPU up, I noticed that the CMOS battery was missing. I installed a new CMOS battery, and I tried to restart it. Now when I restart i get "AB" AMBER "CD" GREEN. DELL says that this is a memory module issue. I thought maybe the RAM was bad, but when I put new ones in I get the same error lights. What can be going on here. Any help is appreciated.

I am running win7 RC 64bit on my Dell precision T5400. I presently have one quad-core xeon e5410 2.33ghz, but the motherboard is dual socket, so I can add in another processor.
I am looking at putting in a xeon e5440 2.83ghz, in addition to the existing e5410 2.33ghz.
My question is, do both processors have to be that same speed? is it possible to have a 2.33 and a 2.83 running together?
both cores have to be the same speed because the instructions are hyperthreaded (they are put into the first avail cpu) and if not the same speed they would take diff amts of time to complete. If your dell suports it you could also out 2x2.83 for speed or 2x2.33 for budget

Can anyone run Windows 7 on a Dell Precision 370? I have seen ppl say it is running. I had 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate working on my 370 for a few minutes. Then I installed Win 7 SP1 and it crashed. Now, I cannot get it to start or even freshly install again. I get Blue Screen Of Death ...F4 error, and it reboots. Does anyone have it running at all on a 370 or after SP1 it failed like mine? And which version of Win 7? Thanks (Sorry if this is wrong place to post. I am new here. Any help would be appreciated. )
Given that Dell ONLY supports XP on this model and no device drivers for Vista/Win 7 it's a hit or miss on whether it will even work with Vista or Win 7. You are in "uncharted territory".http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/176808-windows-7-dell-precision-370-a.html
Hey my dell started to do this thing. I turn the laptop on and all I get is a black screen with a white dash on the top left corner, there is no bios screen or the dell logo it does it as soon as I turn it on. Every now and then it works and windows loads but then I get red lines on the screen and it will lockup or the screen will shut off.
One last thing I ran the built in dell diagnostic tool and everything passed.
Go through this:

I have two Dell [email protected] One has a hard drive fault. I have deleted and remade the dos partition. When I boot from my XP CD and try to install windows it says there is no hard drive attached. Have tried on both machines. Same result. I checked if my good drive (which is still working) would try tio install windows but I get the same result. (no hard drive attached) Am I doing something wromg
What is/was the hard drive fault. And how did you deal with it. It appears your system worked until this drive fault occured.
Slso, specs for the computer would be nice.
Im not sure if this is the right place for this ( just joined)
I have also found many threads discussing this topic but none with my exact problem.
My dell precision m6600 has recently had display issues. The laptop turns on and runs perfectly however the display wont turn on. If i connect it to an external monitor it works and runs through till the windows 10 logo and then the external monitor goes black also?? other times it will go through to the log in screen however the picture will be disfigured and there will be little green blocks all over (frozen)
Sounds like it has a faulty GPU -- to confirm, run the Dell diagnostics (F12 at poweurp to get to the boot menu that allows you to run them).http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19986738
Hi guys, I had an incident with my laptop and I'm not sure how serious or easy my problem is. My laptop was dropped from about 3 ft. and suffered a dent on the right back side. When I got it, it was obviously shut down. I turned it on and I had a message (unfortunely it happened only twice and can't remember exactly): "Please insert or replace Media Bay Port..."
Everything seems to be working fine besides the fact that my CD-Rom is not working along with my audio. Can I just change these items? or is there misconnection with them? Thanks guys.
Need help with the location of USB 2 drivers for the above PC. Looked everywhere, and have spent about 3 hours trying soo hard to find them....Im sure we must of downloaded the whole net...(NOT QUITE).

With un-installing the AT&T Yahoo Security Suite something might not have been put back the way it was supposed to do. Give this a try:
How to perform a Repair Installation of Windows? XP.
Two things are needed here, just a bit of old technology, an ink pen and a piece of paper to write down any special settings that might have to be changed back after the repair-installation is completed.
Please Note: Performing a "Repair Installation" in this manner should not delete any Personal Files, it should 'repair' the core of the installation but to be safe with your data you should follow the next two paragraphs.
You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or external hard drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable. and do the following:
REGISTRY WARNING :
The details that follow require an above-average understanding of the technical topics involved. If you do not understand the Registry material presented here, either find a technically knowledgeable friend or do not attempt to repair your system Registry yourself. Improper changes in the System Registry can render all data on your hard disk inaccessible. :
Here is a link to a registry backup program that is absolutely fantastic it is called ERUNT and you would use this to backup the registry after running the repair-install procedure successfully.
(Remember to always keep a backup of two things: Your registry, and your data. You will never be sorry. ]
(The Windows? XP CD WILL be required for this procedure.)
( Recovery discs are NOT recommended with this procedure.)
A good set of instructions for doing a Repair-Installation are found on the following page and print out the pages of the site for reference further instructions on Slipstreaming Windows XP Home or Pro with any of the service packs are provided also other additional links that might be needed.
Please read the whole page on this web site to familiarize yourself with the procedure and all of the Warnings

Just be attentive and follow all of the on-screen prompts.
Just let it do its thing...now when you finally are at the Windows Desktop, power down the computer and re-enter the BIOS and change the Boot Configuration Order back to its original configuration.
I hope that this cures your woes.
Post back with the results, and if there are any other queries/concerns.

Recently, my Windows XP machine stopped recognizing my Corsair Flash Voyager drive.
When plugged into a USB port via a Dell monitor hub, it does not recognize it at all (unknown usb device).
When plugged directly into one of the front or rear usb ports, it mis-recognizes it as a "SM324BC memory bar" and says that it is not formatted.
Other machines have no problem accessing the flash drive.
I installed SP3 but it did not help.
Removing everything USB-related does not work as the keyboard and mouse are both USB and the system stops responding as soon as I try that.
Laptop stopped recognizing Logitech Mouse USV. Moved it
to another Laptop and it worked fine. Tried another mouse
and it would not recognize it either.

I have an ASUS VS247HR monitor plugged into my pc with a hdmi cable which worked fine, until suddenly my screen went black and it didnt work anymore. I wasnt doing anything with it when it happened. Eventually I got it working with a VGA cable but it doesnt recognize my monitor any longer as an ASUS monitor, it just says "Generic PnP Monitor". I checked for driver updates if that had screwed things up and it did, so I rolled it back but I still have the problemI would really like to be able to use my HDMI cable because VGA lowers my resolution to 1024x768
That's strange, according to what I saw in Google the native resolution for that monitor is 1920x1080. I use a monitor with the same native resolution on Win 10 (previously Win 8.1) and it is happy to select that as default without HDMI.It might be worth trying the monitor on another computer to see how it behaves because right now I'm not sure whether it is the monitor or computer that is at fault.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thankshttp://www.computing.net/answers/windows-10/w10-pc-suddenly-stopped-recognizing-asus-monitor/482.html

Forgot to add, the two mp3 players are different brands and run on different software, and I've tried re-installing the software.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/157084/xp-media-stopped-recognizing-2-seperate-mp3-players/
I've been running a Maxtor One Touch external harddrive on my Dell Latitude D630 running Vista for almost a year with no problems. Now suddenly my computer won't recogize the HD.
I've plugged it in to another computer and it recognized it no problem.
I also looked it up the properties on Device Manager and and it the error message says the drive isn't on. It's obviously on and working, but apparently the computer has suddenly decided it doesn't recognize it.
What are my options at this point?
Not much I can suggest, but have you tried connecting the HD into different USB slots also you could try doing a system restore before the problem occurred.
My PC suddenly stopped recognizing my camera card to download pictures. I tried restarting my computer, which always worked in the past, the few times that I had problems. That didn't work. I tried plugging in my camera straight to the computer, no luck. Tried another card, no luck. Tried a new card reader, one that you can put a variety cards into, no luck. I have Windows 8. Don't know where to go for the "start" section that was used before Windows 8. Anyone out there have any suggestions?
Forgot to add that when I used the new card reader, something DID pop up. It said it was scanning the card. Then it would say it was finished, and I would click out of it. BUT if it scanned, WHERE would I find the pictures? They were not in my pictures section.

The card appears neither in File Explorer nor Disk Management?

Briefly, pressing the <Windows Logo> key will get you to the Start screen, on which you can search for 'most anything and is an implementation of what used to be called All Programs. <Windows Logo> + x will bring up a Quick Access Menu, which includes a lot of useful things like Control Panel, Command Prompt, etc. You might want to take a quick look at my sticky thread at the top of this forum.
I'm running an XP Pro on an ASUS mobo. Just about brand new. The hd is a seagate SATA 250gb. I booted up, put trendnet wireless drivers on it, disconnected, put the wireless card in, and then I got the message to "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press a key."
I went into BIOS, changed the sequence to booting up with the hd first, the CD second and the floppy third. Got the same message.
Then I put in the XP CD and got the message that I couldn't repair because there was no hard drive.
Any suggestions would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
Does the HDD show up in your BIOS? I am thinking it did because you changed it around.
Maybe download fresh BIOS settings from InterNET ASUS sight and flash your current settings???
Hello I ve been using a Dell inspiron from about years now and exactly after years of my buy the battery failed and it started showing me to battery charge! Bought battery still and dell my doesn't laptop a new replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge! I didn t take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in After - months of such usage My battery completely failed and doesn t Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge! even offer me even a minute of backup when i remove the power socket Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type After i removed my defected battery I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine its charging well but at some time it says quot Plugged in But not charging quot Which is rare for any new battery which is bought brand new This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup it is providing me a backup but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it Which I think should not be present it also says quot Low battery quot when there s already of battery left I ve also followed some online steps updated by BIOS to the latest nbsp Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc i would love to get this problem solved I m using a PA- family adapter which is also a replaced one So any help on solving the issue would be appreciated THANKS
Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
--> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)
---> Low battery level ( you can change it to 20%)
Now once that's done, YOU WILL NO LONGER SEE THE EXCLAMATORY MARK ON YOUR BATTERY!!!!
So I hope this works!
Reply me back when you've succeeded fixing it.

Hello everyoneI have a Precision 5810 with 16gb's of RAM. These are 4 x 4gb 2133MHz DDR4 RDIMM ECC sticks.I want to upgrade my memory to 32GB's! Considering the fact that the mobo has 8 sockets, what would it best to do ? - Can I put 2x8 GB's of the same or it must be 4x4GB just like the ones that are plugged? - Can I put any other brand (kingston or crucial) combined with the originals that I have from Dell?
***sorry to ask but dellsuppport team here in Greece, mentioned the cost for another 4x4GB sticks from Dell is 450Euros or 500$. That is waay too muchI would appreciate any answerThanks in advance, Dimitris
I recently purchased a Dell Precision 5510 and I am now planning to install a 500gb SSD (M2), either a Samsung 500GB 850 EVO M.2 or a Crucial CT500MX200SSD4.
Does anyone know if either of these two SSDs are compatible or have any issues with this laptop?
Thank you for posting your query here. Both these device should work without any issues after the upgrade.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19995641
I presently have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 840 @1.87GHz 1.87 GHz. I also have 12 GB ram. As I recall all the slots are filled, making up the 12 GB ram. Can I exchange that in this model to use the slots for a higher amount, & if so how much will that improve the overall computer's performance. I'm assuming this is something if possible that wouldn't be extremely difficult to do myself. Finally what is the recommended ram?
Thanks, in advance for any input.
You can go up to 32G (you must now have 2X2 and 2X4) by installing four 8 G soDIMMs -- that said, you're not likely to see a major boost in doing so unless you're using extremely RAM- intensive applications such as large spreadsheets or databases.
If the system is running a conventional hard drive, replacing that with a solid state drive will produce far more of a boost.
Dell Precision M Windows bit Processor Intel R Core TM i CPU email protected ghz ghz Installed Memory RAM Gb Graphics Card NVidia Quadro FX M Hello I Precision horrible crashing. Dell ve owned this laptop for just over a year and for the first few months it functioned perfectly fine with no issues I encountered some problems with over-heating but I managed to fix it with some compressed air and cooling pads Around months ago it suddenly just stopped working whilst it was plugged into the AC adapter and when the laptop would crash the screen would turn black and any sound playing at the time would be looped Proving it s not a monitor issue I tried to hook it up to an external monitor anyway which yielded the same results I contacted Dell and they came in visits replacing both the motherboard graphics card three times the heat-sync the keyboard changed the hard-drives it has Dell Precision horrible crashing. been reformatted around times and still the issue continues The issue itself being at any random time the laptop will crash and the screen will turn black it only happens when the laptop is plugged into the mains I ve tried replacing the AC adapter through dell and still the same issue occurred I ve kept drivers up to date I ve tried literally everything I ve read and I m stumped The only way to get out of the Dell Precision horrible crashing. crash is to hold down the power button for - seconds to manually shut down the laptop Dell in Dell Precision horrible crashing. the end decided to replace the laptop but left us with this one but unfortunately my brother has been left in charge of the new one and I ve been left with this one Any help would be greatly appreciated If you need anymore information I will be happy to provide it Thanks in advance nbsp

After all that Dell has done and even providing another laptop it will be fantastic if anybody can come up with another idea.
I suggest a change of habit if the battery still has decent life. Try to use the PC just on battery, and then charge it when the laptop is shut down or hibernating. I realize that is not always convenient or possible.
I have a Dell Precision M6600 with an AMD FirePro M6100 2GB. I've found a company claiming to sell GTX 970M/980M MXM 3.0b GPU upgrades for this laptop (including thermal pads and bracket, natch.) However, on some forums I've seen claims that the best upgrade available for this laptop (due to BIOS compatibility issues) would be a GTX 680M. Does anyone here know whether or not a 9xx class Nvidia GPU would even POST?
Note: I'm not a professional user, so I'm not really interested in Quadros or FirePros, unless they're at a deep discount. The FirePro I have performs very nicely in games, but the price premium on a new CAD GPU is on the exorbitant side.
Hi all I have a Dell Precision M running Windows XP Pro SP that Dell M70 (Absolutely no Precision sound) all of a sudden stopped emitting sounds It does not even emit beeps in BIOS There is no sounds coming from either the internal speakers or the headphone jacks I checked the BIOS to see if there was a Dell Precision M70 (Absolutely no sound) setting in there that Dell Precision M70 (Absolutely no sound) could have disable the audio or something but could not find anything To be sure I did perform the quot load to defaults quot option Although I doubt it would be the audio drivers since I do not even get beeps during boot up I did try to install the Sigmatel Audio drivers In fact I tried to reinstall the chipset driver then re install the audio drivers Device Manager displays all drivers are Dell Precision M70 (Absolutely no sound) installed and working Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be the problem I am completely stumped I would appreciate any help or advice on this Thanks Rob nbsp
Something weird is happening here. A laptop will have 2 sources of sound: the speakers built-in and the chipset sound beeping device - thats for POST beeps mainly.
I can't see how both of them would go bust at the same time.
Hello I recently acquired one of these and it is not bright enough. when I go to settings and try to adjust the brightness bar nothing happens it just stays the same. I bought this because I am 62 and have Parkinson's and wanted a bigger screen. Without being able to increase the brightness I will be unable to use this unit. Help please! Thank youhttp://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19996421
I recently purchased a Dell Precision 690 Work Station. Here are the specs:
2 Xeon quad core CPUs running at 2.66 Mhz.
8gb of RAM, two sticks of 4 gig.
4 1TB HDDs, 7200 rpm.
Dell RAID controller card.
It came with Oracle Linux installed as the OS. I purchased Windows 7 Pro (DVD) and have the new COA to go with it.
Do I need to initialize the hard drives prior to the install?
Will I need to specify which RAID configuration I want to use during the install?
If I add a SSD (it will accept a fifth drive) later, will I be able to put the OS on the SSD?
[at the edge of my comfort / knowledge zone]
I would be sure to reformat all of the drives before putting them into service
The RAID configuration must be in place before you start installing the OS and programs
When you add a SSD you may have to start from scratch if you want to reconfigure things.
I have already two HDs (1TB + 2TB) and recently I bought one more - 3TB (I have read that you can connect disk up to 3TB to T7610 motherboard) But unfortunately it is not recognised...
On top of that I am not able to boot my linux 64bit system when this disk is connected....
Probably I am missing something..
