Mouse buttons and Touch Screen not working

Q: Mouse buttons and Touch Screen not working

My wife's laptop was just upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. After the upgrade neither the touchpad or the touch screen worked at all. I dug around and enabled the Elan Mouse in Controle panel. That allowed the touch pad to control the cursor but the mouse buttons still don't work.
I haven't even started on the touch screen but I would love any ideas.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I purchased my Laptop 8 months ago with Windows 8.  Worked perfectly. Upgraded to Windows 10 after 1 week, and still worked perfectly for 7 months. Now the mouse and the touch screen does not work properly. If I hook up external mouse, it works perfectly.Tried to resolve with HP support, but after getting cut off on the support line 3 X finally talked to support who said it is a Windows 10 issue with their drivers, even though it worked perfectly on Windows 10 for 7 months.Told me it is not a hardware issue, even though it obviously is, works perfectly with an exteranl mouse, and that I would have to pay $100 for him to supoort looking at the OS Drivers.Should I do a wipe, re-install Windows 8, and then phone to get support since HP will not support any issues if you are running Windows 10?Thank you

I have a problem, except the touch-sensitive buttons at the top (the mute button, volume button) are working the only button which in not responding is the wireless assistant button. Its red and won't switch to blue when I touch it. I tried the hard reset but it didn't change anything.

A:Logitech Touch Mouse 400 for a Laptop with no touch screen

Sorry I can't answer your question, but this post piqued my interest. I use the Logitech 620 touch mouse on a Windows 7 box at work. I find a little touchy and has to tweaked. But I haven't tried the 620 on Windows 8. Because I'm always looking for the perfect mouse, I think I might just pick up the 400 tonight and let you know.

My Ideapad S415 touch screen has suddenly stopped working.  I've had a tech connect to my PC and try a BIOS reload of default settings, plus unistalling all "HID" devices in Device Manager with no resolution.  I've also tried a system restore with no luck. The system properties does see the touch capability. Suggestions? Thanks.

hi Hersh,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
First do a Power Drain
     (If the battery is removable)
Remove AC and Battery and hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Turn the computer back on and see if the Touch capability is now detected under System Properties,
                  If not
I suggest you contact Lenovo Technical Team about the Issue as this may be a device detection issue.

Hello everyone, my touch screen on my lenovo ideapad z400 touch is not working anymore.  The only weird thing I remember is some ghost touchpoint on my screen. I've been looking for the answer to this issue, but it seems that Lenovo does not address this problem.  If someone has found the solution to this problem and wants to share it with me, I will be forever grateful.

Here's the issue. Battlefield 1942 was my game for years and Logitech MX 310 my favorite mouse, I recently bought another one on ebay to replace an old one. My new Windows 7 PC won't accept any input from the extra mouse buttons in BF1942, but it worked fine for years on my Windows XP machine

My Logitech G13 works fine in BF 1942, and the MX310 works fine everywhere else, including other games [ BF3 for example ] using setpoint 652 x86 with and without game detection enabled.

I have a Steelseries Ikari Opitcal Gaming mouse It consists of left right more buttons near the thumb area the scroll wheel working completely Buttons Mouse not which can be clicked middle mouse button and another button Mouse Buttons not working completely just behind the scroll wheel which changes the sensitivity between low and high for the mouse itself I have installed the latest Ikari drivers but let me detail when the problem arose and what I've done as well as what I'd like the final result to be like The problem first Mouse Buttons not working completely came up while playing a game Magicka As something worth mentioning comodo antivirus announced that the game wanted to inject input dll file or something of the sort I naturally allowed this expecting no problems would happen This may be a key point to the problem although I can't be too sure While playing the game the middle mouse button stopped working and that's a fairly core aspect of the game and for some reason the keybinds can't be changed not sure why but oh well - I'm stuck without a middle mouse button and unable to do much about it The sensitivity changer is out of the picture as well sadly I can't switch my sensitivity back to high it's stuck by default on low Another thing I noticed while this problem was going on was that when i started up i could move hte mouse but click nothing Even though I'd move the mouse over the taskbar icons in Win the icons wouldn't highlight and the mouse aside from moving the pointer was virtually useless I had to open Task Manager to be able to gain basic functionality of the mouse What I've done was basically mess with firefox and whatnot to see if hitting the middle mouse button actually brought up that little scroll button but it obviously didn't The middle mouse button just doesn't exist same applies to the sensitivity changer Eventually I decided to check into device updating properties the USB controller was lacking drivers but it was always like that even before this problem cropped up - regardless i updated them and restarted I gave it several restarts and eventually decided to do a system restore to yesterday's configuration the problem only happened today What I'd like done is to obviously have the middle mouse button back mainly that one and hopefully the sensitivity button too since I'm used on the higher sensitivity setting having a fairly big monitor and whatnot Would somehow getting the original dinput dll file or whatever it was called if it's accessible and relevant back be a possible fix I'm fairly sure the change had to do with magicka somehow I had played this game for a few days without any hiccups but I've never gotten as far as now so maybe something was triggered which effed up my settings Not sure to be honest appreciate any and all advice Lupo

SteelSeries Ikari Optical
Win 2000, Win XP, Win Vista
Region: EN. Version: 1.0. Released: 2008-11-28
Download (2854 KB)
I don't see updated drivers for Windows 7 - SteelSeries ? Downloads

I downloaded the drivers. The release date does say Nov 2008, but the drivers have timestamps = late 2007, before Vista SP1 came out.

If no Windows 7 drivers are available, you'll need a new mouse.

After having to re-install Windows 7 on my laptop I've found that the trackpad and associated mouse buttons are no longer working. The keyboard works fine. The touch screen works fine. When I inserted an external mouse, it automatically installed the driver and worked without issue.I installed the Synaptics TouchPad Driverbut that didn't make any difference. I also tried removing the battery, holding the power button for 30 seconds, re-instering the power cable (but not the battery) and booting up the latop.  It was working fine before the re-install so I can ssume i's not a hardware fault and if the keyboard works the interface cable is also working... Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue and can suggest anything?

Hi, i returned a Dell Studio 16 for another Dell Studio 16 with some lighter configurations. One thing I didn't expect to go missing was the ability to "middle click" and open firefox links in new tabs by pressing both mouse buttons simultaneously.

When i went to Dell's website to update the driver, i was informed via a pop-up that the driver i already have was newer than the one i was trying to update with. so i didnt "update" the driver. The device says "Synaptics TouchPad V7.2 on PS/2 Port" and the Driver Version is I am running Win7 64bit. Thanks.

Hi guys,

I have an hp 430 pro book with Windows 7. It comes with the ps/2 compatible touchpad. Couple of days ago when I was dragging some pictures the touch pad stopped working. I can still scroll and the right button works but I can't click with the touch pad and the left mouse button.

Tried uninstalling the hardware from device manager but it just reboots my computer twice and I don't think the mouse got uninstalled.

I've been told to update my drivers but I'm not sure whether my copy of windows is genuine.

Any advice is much appreciated

Anyway, the touch mouse on the computer isn't working. I can't find it at all in device manager and can't see if it's switched off at the BIOS.

A:Touch Screen / Mouse out of Control

Hi Krooz,
I'm not an expert on this, but it seems similar to a problem that I've had with my Surface Pro 3.  If you live in a humid area, use evaporative cooling (swamp coolers), or accidentally leave the laptop in the bathroom while taking a hot shower,  moisture can get between the LCD and Digitizer assembly and create these "ghost touches" you are experiencing.  As you have mentioned the touches appear to be concentrated in the center line.  This could also be cause if you carry the laptop around by hand (like a book) and the pressure and friction (and sometimes sweat) from your arm can affect the screen.
The way I have dealt with this before was to fold a large towel several times and place on a flat surface,  Prop the laptop with the back of the lid flat on the towels.  Take a hairdryer and carefully heat the screen to soften the adhesive between the screen and digitizer.  Then take a clean dry folded hand towel and with firm, but GENTLE pressure wipe from the middle of the screen outward.  Much like removing air bubbles from under a sticker.  Depending on how much moisture is trapped in the screen this may not work.  If this does not fix the issue, you could always go into Human Interface Devices in Device Manager and disable the HID-compliant touch screen, and just use it as a standard laptop.

Please excuse me as my knowledge on computers is very limited.
I just bought a Dell Inspiron second hand. The person who sold it to me has no knowledge or doesn't want to tell me what's wrong with it. A few minutes after you power it on and start using the touchpad it will sometimes glitch. The screen will go grey and there will be lines. If I stop using the touchpad for a few minutes it will go away. But it continues to do it randomly every few minutes.
I would really like to know what is wrong with it and how I fix it. I know that it has been dropped as there is a chip in the corner under the keypad.

I have a Samsung series 7 Slate, which works great and is really fast with Windows 8. But with one piece of software the touch screen doesn't work, the menu items will light up but nothing happens when you press them. If I use a mouse it works fine and as it should. I don't think it's the software because I also used it on a HP 500 Slate and the touchscreen worked fine on that.

If anyone has any ideas for a solution to this problem I would much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Mouse works but touch screen doesn't!

There is a bit of a glitch when using older touchscreen hardware with windows 8.

Nearly all older touchscreen hardware is implemented as an mouse emulator. So when pressing on the screen it simulates a mouse click.

Windows 8 makes use of the touchscreen interface rather than the mouse interface for touchscreens, and the driver it installed for your touchscreen (if it installed one) may not be working too well with the hardware. If you install a driver separately for that touchscreen you may get back the mouse emulation for the touchscreen, but then some of the better options like gestures and sweep scrolling may not work well or at all in windows 8.

So what you really need is a touchscreen driver that is really a touchscreen driver (not a mouse emulator driver) for that model of touchscreen on your slate. If you know the touchscreen manufacturer you can maybe find a beta on their site for Windows 8? Find the touchscreen device in the hardware control panel and look up it's VID and PID to find the manufacturer if the driver page doesn;t already tell you. (There is a website somewhere that'll look up the VID/PID and tell you what the product and manufacturer is)

But.. may be slim chance. If not, try finding the normal windows 7 touchscreen drivers for it, that may help some, though not guarantee it'll be fully functional.

Hey all, I woke up this morning and started using my computer to find that there were white spots on my computer screen that I had not previously noticed. I have had the computer for two years and haven't had any similar issues. There does not appear to be anything wrong with the pixels, as the color changes appropriately - it's just brighter. Furthermore, the bright spots on the screen heat up much more than the rest of the screen, which remains cool. I also noticed that, though this may be a separate issue, the touch screen isn't responding. Here is an image (it's much more noticeable on a white background):   Any help is much appreciated!

Hi, Try the following. Download the Intel HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. When done, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below. When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, do not restart as prompted, instead open your Downloads folder, right click the Intel Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

My MS Arc Touch Mouse stopped working. A friend of mine who has the same mouse had lost his mouse's nanoreceiver and he had given his (almost new) mouse to me couple of years back (kept without batteries).
Now I'm left with one Arc Touch Mouse and one nanoreceiver v1.0. Is there any way I can pair the two? I tried to install Intellipoint and do something with it, but without luck. I'm using a Windows 10 laptop.

Hope that it is just drivers but what you do is to unzip the driver package into a temporary directory. When the touchscreen is working Right click on START (long press) and go to Device Manager>Human Interface Devices>HID compliant touch screen Click/touch Driver/update driver then select "Browse...on your computer, point to the temorary directory with the new driver and press NEXT. If it is a newer driver it will load it.

Hi Martin,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Find the Touchscreen driver under Mice and Other Pointing Devices>USB Touchscreen Controller (A111).  You're going to uninstall this and check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device".  Don't worry, it won't blow up your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- Re-open the Device Manager, and confirm that the Touchscreen is now listed under Human Interface Devices.  Your issue should be resolved!
I hope the above information helps.

Just got this new B50-30 AIO a few days ago.  Ive set it up and then ran the upgrade to Win 10.  I now find that the touch screen does not work.  Unfortunately I dont know whether it worked before the upgrade.  What I see is that device manager does not list an 'HID Compliant Touch Screen'  in Human Interface devices.  My other AIO does list this type of device (and its touch screen works fine).  So it seems that Win 10 is not recognizing the touch screen and thus not loading the device driver.  Suggestions??

My touch screen is not available on my 2710.  It worked fine for a very long time.
Calibration is not available...System->About says "No pen or touch input is available for this display."
I noticed after I upgraded to Windows 10.   (but that's not necessarily the precise time is dropped out, as I don't use it a lot)
I then downgraded back to 8.   Not there.   Figured that I might as well go back to Windows 10.
I did other things within same rough period of time.   BIOS upgraded to A12.   Changed out some drivers, etc.
I've tried drivers, checked the touch cable connection on the motherboard...but haven't made a single step forward.
Would love to hear some suggestions or ideas.
Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem.  After performing a clean-install of Windows 10 Pro (Did not like all that blotware that Lenovo puts in these systems) and "thinking" that I had installed all drivers, I found that touchscreen did not work.  I solved it by RE-installing the i2c drivers (downloaded from Yoga 11e support page).  It was confusing because there was nothing in Device Manager that indicated any drivers were missing, plus when I ran the .exe file for the i2c drivers all it did was "extract" the files, but it did not install anything! So here is how I went about it:  Opened device manager, clicked on "system devices" to locate the i2c device.  I looked for anything with "i2c" in it, and saw 2 entries: "Intel Atom Celeron Pentium Processor............i2c........[etc, etc]".  I went ahead and manually installed the drivers: right-clicked the item, clidked "update driver software", clidked "browse my computer for driver software", and navigated to where the driver files had been extracted to-as explained above.  After the drivers were installed successfully, the names of the devices changed to "i2c controller".  Rebooted the computer and VOILA! The touch screen worked again! Opened "control panel", "system" and there it said: "Touch Support With 10 Touch Points"

Hi monjan10,
I have the same problem too for almost two years and I found the solution just this March 20. Install the LCD Firmware in your machine. You can use this tutorial to guide you through the process. If the LCD frimware link dows not work, you can download it [unverified link removed]. It worked for me and it only took a one-time installation. I've reset my laptop to go back to Windows 8 but unfortunately, I was coerced again to update to Windows 8.1 however, it did not screw up my touchscreen.
Let us know if problems persists.

Hi @natalia1818, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I read from your posts that you are having an issue with your HP Pavilion 11x360 PC Notebook and the Touchscreen not working correctly. You might need to check that the Touchscreen is enabled on the Notebook. Here is a listing on how to do that: Press the Windows logo key + X.Select Device Manager from the list.Click the little arrow next to Human Interface Devices to expand the list.Click the touch screen driverRight-click, and select enable from the list.Confirm you want to enable. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. I suggest at least 4 days ago as it will make sure to catch what changed the settings. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. Please let me know how this goes. If this post helps you to resolve the issue you can click the Thumbs up icon to show gratitude! Thanks.

I've checked the device and it is enabled. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? I've had the laptop for three days, and this the first time I've tried to use it, if that matters.

I have a POS system with a DigiPos 714A Touchscreen monitor and I don't know where or what drivers to install to use the touch screen. I cant find anywhere online whether I need a single touch driver, multi touch, or whatever other type. The POS system is running on a windows PC running Windows XP 32-bit and the screen has a ps/2 port and of course the usual VGA connectors. Help needed as screen is used for a business.

I just got the HP Spectre in the mail today and the touch screen already isn't working. I was in setting to see if I could figure it out and accidentally turned the TouchPad off, so now I can't do anything on my screen.

A:HP Spectre x2 touch screen not working

Hi @emmab1141, Welcome to HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that the touch screen does not work, and the touch pad was accidentally turned off. On some touchpads you can turn on or off the TouchPad by double tapping in the upper left corner of the TouchPad. Double tap to turn the TouchPad on, repeat to turn the TouchPad off. If this does not work,  do you have an external connected Mouse such as a USB mouse? You may need to use the exrenal mouse to enable the touch pad first.HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10) Then check if the touch sceen is enbled in device manager:HP PCs - Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues (Windows 10, 8) Let me know how it goes. If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message.
