Hi Guy's I have a Win laptop and a Win desktop I like a lot of what I've read about Win although not all But I was hoping that the laptop would be offered it first It's a refurb That I only recently bought My intention was to install slide shows of my art work and use it to show potential customers Anyway I was hoping to install Win on that and put it through it's paces That way I could decide before upgrading my main PC Unfotunately it hasn't worked out that way Yesterday Win downloaded to my desktop PC It said click here to upgrade I was panicing and got a tad twitchy But was pacified when but wants I now! upgrade to 'Win10' to it time need decide, it went on to say - Expect a second prep of your device - Review the licence agreement - Choose when to upgrade Phew it was number 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! that made me relax Remembering I'd read you can wait for almost a year before 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! making up your mind So I pressed the 'OK let's continue' button Did then now I'm faced with no problem I thought but hereby lies the rub Choose a date and time when you want to install the upgrade These are the choices I get HELP
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi Graphicool1 I'm pretty sure you can just close the window and it'll wait until you launch the process manually to upgrade.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/586656/win10-i-need-time-to-decide-but-it-wants-to-upgrade-now/
How long generally does it take to upgrade to Win10 from Win7. Does it depend on HD & Processor?
I have an SSD and AMD Triple core 3.10GHz.
Win7 is pretty new clean install about 1&1/2 weeks old.
Roughly 1 hour maybe 1.5.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/40961-time-upgrade-win10.html
I was wondering how the upgrade to win 10 will work and if i have to ever reinstaill will my windows 7 key work for a reinstall of windows 10
That level of detail is not clear yet for the "free" upgrade.
You can always buy Windows 10 outright and avoid the problem.

Please forgive me for another similar topic
After the vote has been cast, please write a few words why you voted on this and not another. The system on which it will be used softwares is a windows 7 pro 64bit.
Ps.Please do not write the type of texts "I voted for this because I use it" etc. I care about the answers that will bring something to the topic
This has already been done, but to better answer your own question with a question, would be to ask why you do not just try each one on your system and see how each effect your system, uses, and knowledge.

Honestly guys I haven't done any research or thinking about it till recently I realized the deadline was coming soon The couple of negatives I believe I've heard me to Help decide should 10 upgrade Windows if I mentioned is Help me decide if I should upgrade to Windows 10 you no longer have a lot of administrator privileges to modify and tweak things and that I probably will find that my nice barely used HP Printer won't have a driver available Basically tell me what to base the decision on Curious as to what percentage of the quot sevenforums quot users are not upgrading and why Also let it be known that I would hate to think Microsoft is bullying me into it but at the same time if its does actually have more pros than cons then what the hell its free I mainly use my computer to self educate myself about DIY projects and tutorials on topics that interest me And as far as programs I use are Cad drawings Engineering programs Design layout And my hobby of high powered rocketry requires the use of various simulator programs etc And I do not use it for social media at all If this debate has already been had just tell me the results and my decision will be easy Thanks for your time guys and galshttp://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/395996-help-me-decide-if-i-should-upgrade-windows-10-a.html
Well the time has come for me to updrade. I have about $300 us.
I was thinking about getting an Audigy 2, but will this make much of a difference(considering my speakers Logitech 640) compared to my Sb live! 5.1.
I have also been thinking about upgrading my AK32L mobo, (256meg PC2100) needs to have a new mobo if I upgrade this. Or maybe even my Gf3. <-- ill wait till the FX comes along a lowers prices
I just cant decide.
oops maybe this isnt the right forum......
I bought my machine about 2.5 years ago , i'm thinking off upgrading as i usually use it for games. I'm struggling to work out what my processor is , how good/bad it is and how much benefit i would see from upgrading .
not even sure it exactly what processor it is just it some sort of intel dual core , under device manager its listed as
-Intel pentuim D CPU 3.4GHz
-Intel pentuim D CPU 3.4GHz
you said you use it for gaming, what are the rest of your system specs? games are very GPU dependent, might serve you better to get a better graphic card.
I received the free win 10 upgrade from an invitation to reserve the upgrade. The other day, a Ransomware hit me, and though I believe I may have immediately tracked & deleted all affected files I could find, I hardly believe I could be so skilled as to be successful.
I had this happen last year, and ended up formatting the unit, and reloading Win 7. I don't want to have to go back to 7, but how do I get another Win 10? Is there a key I need to find & save? A free site that I can get a copy on a flash drive to load from? Any help would be appreciated. I have no clue how to proceed since it's an online download, and once formatted, the unit won't be able to get online without the OS
you can download the newest build of windows 10 > http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10
boot from the setup media - remove every partition (wipe) the HDD
and clean install widows 10
since you already had win7 and windows 10 on that PC - if asked for product key - just skip that screen

I am not sure if I have win 8.1 pro or win 8.1Says 8.1 pro in mscinfo but doesnt allow me to install win 8.1 pro features. Anyway that is not the issue I am writing about. Issue is , I had my laptop crashed 1 month after I installed Win 10. it required HD replacement by HP, at which stage I was told not to ugrade to win 10 as my laptop will not handle it. My Question is:free upgrade to wn 10 ends soon.what happens when my OS will no longer be supported by MSWhat is actually the problem that causes HP notebooks to crash? Is there a feature in win 10 that can be turned off to avoid causing the crash?Atleast we can keep up with the updates!! Need some help to understand what the actual issue is and if there has been some workaround found by now.SDhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Win10-upgrade-deadline-arrived-cannot-upgrade-what-next/td-p/5688369
If you are a legal registered owner of WinZip 9.0 and decide to upgrade to WinZip 10.0 Beta, it will convert it to an evaluation version and will NOT accept your previously-purchased registration code. The www.winzip.com site will E-mail you a temporary registration code to use, but it will only work for as long as WinZip is in beta release. Once the final release of WinZip 10.0 is released, the temporary registration code will no longer work and will convert it back to an evaluation version.
Be aware of this before you make the decision to make the upgrade. I found out the hard way.
My Internal driver DVD does not work anymore. The drive appears in devices and drives, it opens when I click on it, but no media is reported. Microsoft Driver looks correctly pointed to system32/DRIVERS/cdrom.sys
I am coming from a win 8.1 updated to win 10. It used to work.
I guess it is a SW issues, somehow related to regedit. I am a little scared of a clean win 10 installation (everything works fine and I would like not to reinstall all the programs).
Any way I could fix it?
I haven't installed Win 10 since it was introduced and from reading and hearing from others who have done it, it seems that there are still some issues that people are facing with this new OS, and I currently only want to install Win 10 so my laptop gets registered at Microsoft.
I am wondering whether it is possible to install Win 10 along with the existing Win 7 on my laptop, can Win 10 be for first time installed without removing the existing one? I have already seen your tutorial on dual installation, but my concern is will the license be registered?
I searched both Google and at your site but didn't found the answer I was looking for, I apologize if It has already been answered.
Hi.... Welcome to Ten Forum .... What you're asking can't be done without first upgrading to 10. What I would do if I were you I would get a usb external hard drive. I would copy and paste everything you need from your laptop onto the external hard drive, once that is done I would do a Factory Restore of your laptop back to the way it was when you first got it. Afterwards, I would re load all the software and data back again onto the laptop, get all the windows updates. And remove all the garbages that the manufacturer put on your laptop that you don't need . So afterwards you have your self a CLEAN system . Once everything is loaded back again, I would download Macrium Reflect free version ( link below for it ) ... And make a full back up image of your laptop ( The whole drive must be selected ) Once that is done I would upgrade to windows 10. Once its been upgraded check to be sure its activated. Once windows 10 is activated you can either stay with windows 10 or go back to Windows 7. If you go back to 7 you can always go back to 10 whenever you want now, as long as the life of the laptop lives. Personally, I would stay with 10 and afterwards I would reformat the hard drive and do a clean installation of windows 10 . If you decide to do a clean install just make sure you still have your data stuff from your external usb hard drive intact to reload . Remember you can always go back to 7 with the back up image. I would even try to load the backup image unto a free cloud base service for safe keeping. ( You would need to zip the backup image for it )

Has anyone upgraded to Windows 10 on the hp 110-414 have you got any problems or bugs with it and is it running well on it and do you think I should upgrade
Because you may find that you need to install the Windows 10 driver for it after upgrading. With most notebooks there are two or three different adapters that could be installed. It helps to what is installed in yours. Use the search functiion in the forum and search for windows 10 wifi driver. You will notice that many members did not take the time to either locate the driver or know what is installed.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Hp-110-414-Win10-Upgrade/td-p/5579588
When I upgrade my 32 bit win 7 computer to win 10 can I choose to upgrade to 64 bit win 10?
You cannot do an in place upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. Going from 32-bit to 64-bit requires a clean install.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/56098-upgrade-32-bit-win-7-64-bit-win10.html
I have an older laptop (probably 6-7 years old, Dell Inspiron running Windows 7) and its been running fairly slow lately. I saw a notice that today is the last day to upgrade to Win10 for free. Just looking for some good advice on whether or not I should even consider upgrading.
My first thought is that, with an older machine, I probably have a lot of junk on my hard drive causing the slowness so I need to clean it up (which means I'll miss the "today is the last day" bit...but do I really care?). I also think maybe my processor won't be able to handle the new version, but not sure if that's really a concern or not.
Can I ask for some advice? Thanks
I saw a notice that today is the last day to upgrade to Win10 for free.Click to expand...
it not - July 2016 is
whats the exact model and also the service tag number
make sure there are windows 10 drivers available for the PC
you could always make a recovery set of DVDs (if you havent already , and i would advise you make them anyway) and do a windows 7 clean install
you may have a lot of startups or even malware on the PC slowing it down
At the moment there is a promotion up to 29 July to upgrade to win10 from win7 home premium 64bit ok
So I downloaded the Microsoft upgrade assistant to win 10 and all ok. But it get stuck at 99% and stop there ok
Then the worst is it is a hell of a job to get win7 back cause it comes up with a black screen ok
Contacted Microsoft and told me to contact you to help me solve this issue
Already contacted you through twitter few days ago but no reply
Thanks if you try to solve this problem before expires tnx
mind you get stuck 99% during installing ok

Now I can't upgrade! I've reserved an upgrade, but it won't ask me to upgrade!
Welcome to the forum,
It hasn't asked me yet either, but that doesn't mean you can't upgrade.
You can do it manually, starting at step three here,

My wife's computer could not upgrade to win 10 cause it had an old video card. I upgrade motherboard and video card. Win 7 is registered, but can not upgrade. The free upgrade tool still shows the other video card. Tried the media creation tool and still goes back to the upgrade box with the old card. Is there anyway to erase that upgrade box and redue it?
Check for any left over files or drivers from your old video card. Windows is still finding it somewhere. Check your device manager 1st just to see if its listing 2 video cards, then check your program folders for any left overs. Also just for backup reasons, download a program on this forum called Showkey which will give you the information on your currant Windows Key, incase you need it to upgrade to Windows 10.
My Win10 laptop flips out on boot with a blue screen, right before/after you can see the mouse. It never reboots when it says it will. And it seems to blame my graphics card for this, as Catylitst Controll on logging claims that there is no AMD driver or thats its malfunctioning. I have to reinstall it to get my computer working better than a snail's pace, and for Catylist Controll to reconise it.
Will get a dump of the error, just gotta restart a few times, as i accidently deleted the error dump and used disk cleaner.
Edit: Error is: , And the dump: W10LAPTOP-Sun_02_07_2016_134851_47.zip

Going straight to Windows 7 and using Windows 7 key to activate it is generally more reliable than upgrading.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/45754-win-7-scratch-before-win10-upgrade.html
l had an issue with windows update which required me resetting components.. afterwards l made sure to check for the updates l dont want, not one of the get windows 10 ones was present (granted l didnt look at each support article as l was behind by a few on the laptop which l havent started in a little).
however l do have a list of the updates l dont want to install.. yet the win 10 upgrade is back l removed the program dir manually because l couldnt find an associated update.
just wondered if anyone knew if there was a newly labelled one.
who and why is anyone going for the free Win10 upgrade ? I do online stuff and gaming.... I do not have a tablet.... at current our computer run Win 8.1. I signed up a while back for the free Win10 upgrade.... is there a thread for this discussion already?

My current computer has a retail copy of Win8. I'm building a new PC this weekend and I want to utilize the free upgrade to Win10 from my current retail version of 8, but I understand the free upgrade is tied to hardware.
Would my best option be to migrate Win8 to the new PC and upgrade from there? Alternatively, would I be better to just upgrade to 10 now and then migrate to the new PC afterwards? I imagine I can just discover the product key using something like Belarc Advisor, but then I don't know if the key will be accepted for activation on the new hardware... Thoughts?
i am runing a toshiba satelite using windows 7. the laptop originally came with windows 8, i couldnt bear the change so i switched back to 7 and today i want to get a legit copy of windows 10 -- that will last for over 1 year -- installed after reinstalling windows 8 (my win 7 isn't licensed). after running "ProduKey" i found a "windows BIOS OEM key" that apparently belongs to the OEM win 8.
can i install 8.1 with my win 8 OEM product key?
can i upgrade directly from windows 8 to 10 or do i need to update from 8 to 8.1 and from there upgrade to 10?
can i use the retail win 8 istallation files with an OEM product key or do i need the toshiba OEM installation files?
thank you very much for any help!
No need to install windows 8 - just install windows 8.1 via ISO and then upgrade to windows 10 via ISO
windows 10 just needs to see the activation of windows 7 or windows 8.1 to activate itself..
I am having issues with USB devices dropping since I upgraded to windows 10. I have tried updating device and use drivers, reinstalling devices and changing power settings for devices. This is a pain as I need to regularly make skype business calls and can't now via headset. Any help greatly appreciated.
I have now decided to bite the bullet and go for the Win10 upgrade. Before I do I would like to know more about the procedure, Can anyone direct me to a good source of information on the subject.

Hi everyone, this is my first visit and post and I hope you can assist
where others have failed. I have tried to install Win 10
on two machines and neither of them would work, both telling me that the CPU was not
good enough or words to that effect.
PC1 has Intel Pent G3220 3.00 GHz Haswell chip.
PC2 has Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz.
Both of these are way over the required
minimum spec so I cannot understand why Win10 will not install.
Welcome to the forum. Its likely either your cpu cant handle PAE, NX and SSE2 or its not set in the bios
To test for PAE, NX, and SSE2, download a program called "CPU-Z" and run it. On the main window, look under the "Instructions" heading for SSE2, EM64T (which also indicates the processor supports PAE) and either VT-d or VT-x, which is required for NX support. If you have all 3, then you are good to go.

Depending on what it is you may be able to use the new AMD Crimson drivers instead. I have a L50D-C-13G and I abandoned the catalyst drivers for Crimson drivers and my machine is running great. I have an A10-8700P Carrizo R6 with windows 8.1 and it works great for me. The driver lists compatible hardware, read through it and see if your machine is supported.
Hi all, i have a Precision M4700 with windows 7 SP1 OEM, i'm confused, can i install windows 10 pro for free or do i have to purchase an upgrade license (if i do it now, before the 29th July) ?
Consider i work in an Enterprise environment but the license applied to my PC is the OEM, not the one under Corporate agreement.
Thanks for a clarification/confirmation.
Yes, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. You will also need to update the drivers to Windows 10 as well. Click the link below to download the drivers for your M4700.

I know someone with a Vista (Business) PC and he received a free upgrade notice to Win10. Is this correct and if so does it just mean that the OS will be installed without saving apps and files?

The free upgrade applies to qualified computers that are running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8/8.1.
It does NOT apply to computers that are running Windows Vista.
Hi all trying to upgrade my desktop self-built from Win to Win but it keeps getting stuck at configuring settings Since at that point there is no task manager or anything and my system has Win10 at upgrade keeps stuck 86% getting no hdd activity light it's hard to tell if anything is still happening The system has an ssd so should not be slow I've updated several laptops also crappy Win10 upgrade keeps getting stuck at 86% ones with slow hdd and it worked for all of them never taking longer than couple of hours Now the upgrade on my desktop has been running for hrs mostly stuck at that point I tried to upgrade it once already last fall and then I did not have this issue But system was very unstable and hence unusable with win and hence reverted back to So what are my options to troubleshoot I only have keyboard and mouse attached both USB and no other USB devices There are lots of applications installed and configured dev environment for my personal projects so I would really really like to avoid a clean install If it matters it it win professional and there is enough free space on c drive Should I unplug mouse and keyboard or even display dvi-dhttp://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/57202-win10-upgrade-keeps-getting-stuck-86-a.html

System File Checker indicates that there are some corrupt system files, but this is way above my head so i wouldn't know how to correct them.
i will post the log here when i can.
In Windows 10 there are 2 methods for creating system image backups in Control Panel
Backup and Restore (Windows 7) & File History
What are the differences between them?
I?ve never used File History but it appears to me it?s a better system.
I recently upgraded my Win7 & Win8.1 to Win10.
They run excellently and it?s time for me to start a backup plan on each one.
Backup and Restore (Windows 7) creates a full system image backup. It is supposed to create a backup of everything required to restore your entire computer, Operating System, installed programs, and user data and then if your entire hard drive crashes you are supposed to be able to restore EVERYTHING from it. Many people have had issues with the built-in Backup and Restore and prefer to use Macrium Reflect Free for that function - which is more reliable and more versatile.
File History monitors a list of folders that you tell it to monitor. When a file inside one of the folders changes, File History makes a backup copy of that file only onto a separate drive. You delete that file by accident, for example, and you can go to the backup location and pull the copy of it back. Or an app misbehaves and shuts down unexpectedly and corrupts the file you were working on, you should be able to go back to the backup location and retrieve the last saved copy. File history will not create a backup of your entire system and cannot be used to restore you entire system if your hard drive crashes.
Macrium Reflect Free

I have a friend with WIN7 64 bit just like me. He received a message about upgrading to WIN10. He clicked on the X at the top right. It downloaded the update but he did not install it. It keeps asking about installing the upgrade.
What can he do to remove the WIN10 upgrade download?
What can we do to permanently remove any request to upgrade. Neither of us are computer gurus. We need a step by step simple procedure to stop any updates or requests for WIN10.
We have no desire for WIN10. Thanks, Bob.
The simplest way is to use a tool that automates the change of settings required to prevent the forced downgrade to Windows 10. Download the Never10 utility and it will disable the Win10 download. Extensive documentation and explanations are on its site.http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/396921-disabling-win10-upgrade-win7-64-bit.html
My laptop was victim of a virus that destroyed some register files and even System Restore could not fix it. My only choice is to format the hdd and reset to the OS in the chip which is Win 8, but I had already upgraded to Win 10. How can I recover my Win 10 Key so I can reinstall and activate Win 10?
Thanks / Arturo
There is no free key. If your computer came with Windows 8.x, the key is in the bios. If you wish to install from the iso, do the install without activation, then once you get into the GUI, then do the activation and it will go through.http://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/62231-how-recover-win10-key-free-upgrade-8-1-a.html

I upgraded to win10 from win7 and started having a problem so I reverted back to win7. The problems from the upgrade followed me back with the revert to win7. The problems have to do with files and folders. I cannot create a file (doc) and save it to my documents file folder. I get a message "you don't have permission to save to this location" contact administrator. Incidentally, I'm the only user of this computer and always have been. I also get a message when trying to open an existing file " document file is locked for editing by (me or unknown user)
I'm totally confused not knowing how to get by this "file locked for editing" and "administrator privilege" needed.
Please tell me how to get around this.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

You were all so helpful in getting me through my last Win10 experience that I decided to give it another go
I just finished upgrading my kids' PC from Win7 to Win10, and since the upgrade the system has been hard-freezing -- no responsiveness from mouse or keyboard, screen frozen in place.
I'd heard that there may be issues with USB drivers (since the motherboard is fairly old), so I reinstalled the latest from Gigabyte earlier today, but no dice.
Any advice would as always be appreciated! Thanks in advance,
I've been hesitant to upgrade any of my PCs from 7 to 10, because it is not a clean install.
I want to be able to upgrade, but from a clean install, so that I have the ability to revert back to a windows 7 capture of my system if I find 10 to be unsavory.
Is there a way to register my hardware or obtain a windows 10 license key, via an upgrade without having to go through the process of having 10 installed on top of my 7 system?
I decided to try and upgrade my HP Pavilion n sa laptop to Win from win The GET Windows quot Check Your PC quot report says that PC will work with Win There is nothing incompatible All Items are ticked I booted from a USB copy of the ISO created as says on not it. upgrade laptop HP I MS has my can't tested win10 by the Media Creation toolkit downloaded from MS and which upgrade my Desktop machine with no problems I accepted the License set the language and currency to UK and choose Upgrade to keep my files and Apps intact After a while of it checking my Laptop it showed a message quot The computer Started using the Windows Installtion media remove the media and restart windows so that it restarts normally then insert media and restart the upgrade quot Which I follow to the Letter then I get the message quot This PC can't run windows you can't MS says I can't upgrade my laptop as HP has not tested win10 on it. install windows on a USB Flash Drive using setup quot I had MS on my laptop for well over hours yesterday checking my PC meets minimum requirements and recreating Win images to update my machine They tried using other tools to create USB Flash drive images using MS says I can't upgrade my laptop as HP has not tested win10 on it. ISO burned to DVD and when they could not get it to work they say HP has not tested it with Win and to get them to do that and go back to MS On the HP website it says quot Note If you have a PC newer than August there is a good chance that your product can be upgraded Continue to the Microsoft Upgrade experience quot I bought the machine in December Has any one had the same problems or updated with no problems Where do I go now Will a clean install work or not Thanks Pete
I'll take a stab at this one..
From my experience with HP they do drop support for some of the products and you get stuck with the last OS that was installed on it.,. for example I had a nice desktop and it only would support Win7. When I tried to run Win8 on it .. well it would work fine but when I went to shut it down for the night and restart it that's when it would fail. Seems HP will not provide the updates to support new OS's. And this also applies to other OEM's.
Now having said all of that here is one option you have. Make sure you can make a system backup and backup your personal data. When that's done make sure you can restore the system and you're comfortable with the process.
At this point you could perform a clean instillation of 10 and see what happens. IF it fails to work properly just restore your PC to the previous settings with the backup you made.
... yes.. complicated but that's the best advice I can offer at the moment
And welcome to the forums
I downloaded the upgrade as instructed and when it reached the 100% mark, everything stopped. The download took me 5 hours! (I don't have a very good ISP speed in my area). The problem is, where is the download now? I've searched the 'downloads' file and I cannot seem to find it. Maybe it has been placed in a separate file of its own. Could you please tell me what the name of the file might be and where I may be able to find it.

I have a strange issue where after a full shut down in Windows 10, the motherboard is still delivering power to my connected devices such as my headset, keyboard, mouse and monitors i.e. all the lights on these devices are still on, whereas previously in Win7 they would all turn off.
I did an in-place upgrade from Win7-Win10 and adjusted no motherboard BIOS settings.
I've looked through the Win10 power options and can;t see anything relating to keeping devices on after a shut down. I assume this is so USB devices like phones and tablets can charge from USB when the PC is off? However I don;t need this feature if that's the intention.
Any ideas? Is windows 10 (vs win7) sending a different command back to the MB on a shutdown?
MB: Asrock P67 Extreme 6

Some motherboards have a USB power feature even when the computer is switched on.
This sound like your issue. This can be adjusted in the BIOS settings.
Look in the BIOS for an option called EUP Turn it off.
Or maybe ErP Ready. Turn it on.
Edit: One more thought... when you installed the motherboard chipset drivers you may have installed a small program that allows for the charging of USB devices when the PC is off.

I'm still on Win7, I noticed that their pop up window to install Win10 has changed, there is no option to select another date for the install, it were only ever 3 days ahead anyhow.
I'm wondering, is the free offer coming to an end then?
Looking through some of the past threads on here, I see that some have reverted back to their old OS after dabbling with Win10, I'm wondering if I should even bother/risk trying it to be honest?.....Although I dare say that I'll be forced to in the end.
The offer is for a year - July 2016 (it was released on 29th July 2015)
I bought this in Nov, 2012, Win7 SP1. I would like to update to Win10, but I'm not sure the Broadcom WLAN driver will work in Win10. The adapter version is 5.60.350.6 (3/22/2010), BCMWL664.SYS. I don't want to update only to find I have no internet or network access.
Greetings, Win 7 upgrades to Win 10 can be problematic with no easy way back to Win 7 unless you have a good image and bootable rescue media. The safest way to upgrade is to clone your existing Win 7 install to a second HDD or SSD. Connect only the cloned HDD to your PC to do the upgrade. Carefully read this entire article by Ed Bott to learn what needs to be done, and the time invested, if you have to rebuild Windows 7. Win 10 may have the correct WLAN driver as well as all other drivers needed to run correctly or the upgrade could choke. You still have the original Win 7 install on the first HDD and can move on with your computing life. Cheers!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Can-I-upgrade-h8-1230-from-Win7-to-Win10/td-p/5596437

Thanks in advance.
It seems according to the update history, my computer is trying to upgrade itself to Windows 10 automatically. Can it actually do this without asking me? I didn't reserve the upgrade so it shouldn't be trying to upgrade. Did it fail noticing that I didn't reserve the upgrade?

I've a A70 ThinkCentre initialy with W7.
Since the update (almost compulsory) towards Windows 10, my explorer of files closes alone, approximately every 53 seconds... To describe a little more my "breakdown" after my tries of this evening: it is the process " explorer Windows " that is reset doubt approximately the 50 seconds. So closes the explorer, the configuration panel, etc. Everything closes at the same time. The desk becomes black some milliseconds then re-appears.It occurs permanently, even if the explorer is not opened, the desk resets...As if something made the " end of spot "...What's to be done?
Is the A70 compatible with W10?
Mod: edited title to add system type and clarify problem
Go to Solution.
The A70 is not on the list of Lenovo Win 10 supported systems. Your Intel processor is several generations before official Win 10 starts.
There are ways to prevent Win 10 reminders and unwanted automatic downloads, Google for them.

Installation and configration of Mozilla Thunderbird, everything work very well.
My "client" was satisfied with this solution.
I have a collegue helper, who has a simular problem (W7); no send/reply;
did WLM recovery function, deleted "Mail.MSMessageStore"; uninstalled WLM2012 cleaned up
revo uninstaller also registry; reinstalled WLM2012; but no success.
Thunderbird worked perfect, but his client likes to use WLM.
What can be done to get WLM working again?
Upgraded Edge 15 from Win8.1 to Win10 today. Everything was fine, then an installation file got stuck so I held power button for a forced shutdown. I have multiple ThinkCentre M78-10BR workstations that I am upgrading to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit from Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Some upgrade properly without any problems. I now have at least two stations that are having graphics problems. I can't seem to find a driver that is compatiblen with the on-board adapter.I have tried installing Radeon HD 8370D drivers from Windows Update, Lenovo Support, and from AMD's site. In all cases the system BSOD until I remove what was installed. I do have M78-10BR that upgrade perfectly with driver 15.200.1036.0. Is it possible to upgrade a C875-15G to Win10? Currently it's not on the list of supported laptops on the Toshiba website, but Win10 compatibility check does not encounter any issues.
Did somebody tried to upgrade such a laptop already?
I tried to upgrade in 2014 but that didnt work.
Some problems with the taskbar and cpu tied up continuously.
I had the same problems with a dell running on w7. Recently I upgraded the last one again and it runs well now.
So I am planning to upgrade the C875-15G again tot W10 again shortely.
Are there any reports from successful installation on the C875-15G?
I have three computers in family that were given upgrades on the win7 family plan. One was just informed it was eligible for win10 upgrade. I think I made the mistake of custom install (for a clean install) instead of an upgrade and, related to other problems with windows update, I might have lost my activation on win7. Long story short, when I got to the point where win10 was installed and asking for a key I knew I had done a no no as, if I had done it correctly, I should not have been asked for a key. Of course I have no key but the win7 key and the install just sits there with no options but to input the key, which I don't have. What's my best course of action here?
thanks in advance
If you haven't already, you should be able to enter the Windows 7 product key to activate Windows 10 if it's for the same edition and language.
Thinkpad W540 will not upgrade to Win10 via Windows Update. Have also downloaded Media Creation Tool and Win10 iso file. All are 64-bit as is my processor and current Win8.1 Pro w/ Media Center. Have tried running MCT and iso as administrator with no success. I'm running out of time for a free upgrade! System has 8GB RAM and plenty of free space on hard drive. All 8.1 updates and patches are installed. All drivers are updated. Please help!
Moderator comment: Model added to subject for clarity.
OOPS -- saw you tried this already. ------------------------------------Have you tried obtaining the upgrade directly from Microsoft via their Win10 Media Creation tool? You will be able to download an entire .ISO file to burn a CD or create a bootable USB stick: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 This works better, sometimes, than the Windows upgrade pestering message. Good luck!----------------------------------------- How are you fixed for disk space? The upgrade needs qute a bit of extra room ~ 5 - 10 GB, at least, to store previous machine state.

Like in the topic. Please help; after upgrading to Win 10 there is no keys-backlight after using the FN + Z combination. in bios (after upgrading) everything is fine; so when I turn backlight ON or OFF backlight runs out, but there is problem with Toshiba Funcktion Key driver I think.
I did the reinstalation of this driver, have others toshiba drivers for Win 10 installed (Eco, system driver etc.). Toshiba Funckction key runs for several seconds after system bots up, and is blocked (?) by something after jus several seconds. Weird and very annoying. The fun is that combination for screen brightness (FN + F6 or F7) and for volume up/down (FN + 3 / 4) runs perfectly vell. Backlight
I think the problem is connected with Toshiba Funcktion Key program.
Please help ! Portege is the top class of Toshiba laptops.
I bought this in Nov, 2012, Win7 SP1. I would like to update to Win10, but I'm not sure the Broadcom WLAN driver will work in Win10. The adapter version is 5.60.350.6 (3/22/2010), BCMWL664.SYS. I don't want to update only to find I have no internet or network access.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Can-I-upgrade-h8-1230-from-Win7-to-Win10/td-p/5596437
I regularly use the 24 hour time format for all of my systems.
Its not a major issue I have now with Win10, but its annoying a bit.
Before I logon to Windows 10, the default lock screen theme has the time in 12 hour format instead of the 24 hour format.
In Windows, I set everything in 24 hour time. Period. I just don't like 12 hour time.
However, when I sign out or just by locking my screen, it does show the time in 24 hour format.
But when I reboot my system it shows the time in 12 hour format.
Is this a bug or what in Win10?
Mine shows 24 hour.http://www.tenforums.com/customization/36364-win10-default-lock-screen-theme-does-not-show-24-hour-time.html
Hey, I am facing an error. I am trying to install win10. I am on win7 x32bit. I have official win10 iso from ms official site. Also I once installed 10 using this file but now it gives me error code 0xc19001-0x20017 something like safe_os phase error during boot. I tried many fixes like uninstalling antivirus software and all. Now I am tired. So looking forward to the solution. Please help me out.

Looks like the old Intel bios microcode update causing those shenanigans - see here
During the upgrade the laptop gave a fault-code 0xc000000f and three options enter to try again, f8 for startoptions and f9 to change operatingsystem whichever options i try it keeps getting back to the same screen.
What can I do?
Power off the notebook pressing and holding power button.
Then power up the unit again and press F12.
Now you should see the Advanced boot menu.
Here choose HDD recovery
Then choose language and keyboard.
Then Troubleshoot -> Advanced options ->Automatic Repair.
Hope it helps.... if not, you may need to recover the notebook back to factory settings...
Currently, my Insyde BIOS (version F.0C dated 3/30/2010) does not allow for NX/XD capability, thus not allowing me to upgrade to Windows 10 (from W7 SP1)Will BIOS upgrade F.0E Rev (01/07/2011) listed on the HP website for my machine (running Intel Core i5 M430 @ 2.27Ghz) upgrade my particular BIOS to enable XD? Details of this BIOS upgrade state: Enables the Intel CPU "Execute Disable Bit" functionality automatically, which helps to prevent some classes of malicious buffer overflow attacks when combined with a supporting operating system.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/BIOS-upgrade-to-enable-NX-XD-for-Win10-install/td-p/5682770
I was getting 1920x1080 pixel on Win 7 until I upgraded to win10, where the max I get is 1366x768. I've exhausted my search online so thought I'd ask the group for help. Is there a particular driver I need to install that is not on the Dell site? Thank you.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19681684
Post WIndows 10 upgrade - all is well except my DVD drive, HP DVD-RAM GH40, is not detected by the OS now. The secondary ROM drive is noted and functioning. Each, though, is accounted for in the BIOS but Device Manager is helpless. It doesn't know it's there and new hardware searches can't find it.How can I get it back online?
Hi: See if one of the resolution steps below resolve the problem. Try each one as applicable. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/314060http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Win7-to-Win10-Upgrade-DVD-drive-now-missing/td-p/5698150
Hi I already had some problems on my Windows -bit machine due to Windows being installed on a small SSD GB - mainly that IE wasn't working - but now after upgrading to Windows it has expanded to a lot more MS-programs I have a second SSD drive of GB installed too Excel takes a long time to start from the menu If I start it by double-clicking an Excel-file after a long time it says quot There was a problem sending the command to the program quot If Excel is already open there's no problem with problems Win10 MS. and upgrade small SSD MS-programs on now only it Win10 upgrade on small SSD now problems with MS-programs and only MS. opens the file fast Word hasn't got the same problem and opens files quickly Enabling or disabling HW acceleration had no effect Edge I can start but not get to open any webpage Nothing happens when entering an address And IE doens't start at all Firefox works fine Edge dies if I try to open IE through it Outlook says quot Could not install the custom actions The form cache file quot C FRMCACHE DAT quot is not valid Contact your administrator quot when I try to create a new email but the forms file is present at the location and security good Outlook otherwise it works though I did have security problems with not being allowed to send and receive emails The Store doesn't open Just shows a blank page OneDrive doesn't work at all All my non-MS apps and programs works ironically fine without any problems with the upgradehttp://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/61230-win10-upgrade-small-ssd-now-problems-ms-programs-only-ms.html
Before, with Windows 8 and 8.1, my 2720 would only take about 30 seconds to do a complete boot-up. After Windows 10 upgrade, It take about 10-15 MINUTES to get pass the Dell splash screen. I've checked for the latest drivers, which I have. ran Malware checks and bug checks; all clean. I'm guessing there is a driver issue with one of the components looking for something, but Device Manager shows no problem. Anyone have any ideas?
Visit Dell Downloads to get the drivers for win 10 for your model.
If I log in as the normal user or the Administrator account I get explorer exe closing and reopening about once per second I can get it to close permanently with Task Manager if I'm fast enough with the mouse MS has an article on this saying to run Windows Update because it's a known problem with an already released fix Unfortunately you can't run windows update without explorer exe running apparently They refuse to say what the name of the patch is or I'd download it and run it off loop-crashing upgrade Win10 explorer.exe my flash drive with task manager's run prompt Browse button So I either need that download a command to start the reversion back to Windows from a command line or a command line way to Win10 upgrade loop-crashing explorer.exe bring up the windows update UI that works in By the way the problem was found to be with file permissions on certain app data related folders and as soon as I tried to alter the permissions on those specific folders with problems it gave some generic error saying it failed So apparently I can't fix it manually
Well one of those is out. I run the new Win10 version of wuapp.exe which is "start ms-settings:windowsupdate" and it does nothing. So, anyone know how to revert to Win7 via command line or what the KB# is for the fix?http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f338/win10-upgrade-loop-crashing-explorer-exe-1040377.html

I am unable to install Win 10 Anniversary upgrade on my Asus T100HA Tablet as there is insufficient hard drive space (HD Totals 32GB) I have only got 10.5 GB's free after removing everything I can except Norton AV. Guys I'm stuck with build 10240! I need 1511 so it can support my new GPU (GTX 1080) and even when I try to use the ISO, it will not let me keep my current settings, apps & files. It says I'm trying to install a different edition than I'm currently using. I've been on hold with M$ support for over FOUR hours! I cannot find any solution. The windows update says I'm up to date which is of course incorrect. Install date was 8/8/15. My laptop is on 1511 but my desktop won't update. Please tell me how to fix this! I'm not trying to use any language packs or anything. Using Win10 Pro and I downloaded the "Win10" ISO from the media creation tool. Every version I've tried doesn't work. My only option at this point is a clean install which is unacceptable! Please HELP!
Please run winver and post the results here.
Also open a command prompt (admin) and run:
Post that result window here. Then we can probably tell you what is wrong.
I'm Frank, SC, US.
I really wrecked my HP laptop with Windows 8.1.
There is so many issues that I believe a system reset would be appropriate, I've done it many times on other machines and at least twice on this one. But no matter what I try, SYSTEM REFRESH nor SYSTEM RESET will not run. Various ACCESS DENIED errors, won't uninstall a program from the control panel, if I create a new word doc, I can't save the doc.
I have administrator access, most obvious goof is under THIS PC, LOCAL DISK (C:) properties shows 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free.
Please get back to me if you have any ideas.
Thank you in advance.
THIS PC, LOCAL DISK (C:) properties shows 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free.
Unless Windows is on a different drive letter, it is virtually impossible for C: to have 0 bytes. You can't boot into Window if there are no Windows files.
Go to Start/Search and type diskmgmt.msc, right click the diskmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Disk Management window, please take a screenshot of the lower pane of the Disk Management window and attach it in your next post.
