Need help pinpointing faulty windows update.

Q: Need help pinpointing faulty windows update.

Basically just pressing right click repeatedly on the desktop to bring up the context menu will increase the usage from explorer.exe permanently which is very weird, this does not happen on my laptop. (which is not updated)

Oh never mind looks like this might an nvidia bug... damn strange

Preferred Solution: Need help pinpointing faulty windows update.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Have any of you experienced anything like this I have about GB free hard disk memory but most of my MB RAM is allocated I don't know what that means but know that I recently installed Windows Ultimate when it is said to require more than MB RAM I have the extra chips ready to load when Update faulty Windows I've got my notebook sorted If I try to install say only updates from Windows Update it might install one but not the others Downloading is not a problem If I go for installing important updates it'll get as far as the last one then bomb out and declare them all as failures even though or of them had apparently been installed Separately or not Windows Word says it doesn't have the memory to save the document I guess you'll tell me to install the extra RAM but is there anything I could do to minimise quot allocated RAM quot There was something I read about page size Any advise would be welcome Windows Update faulty Thanks Martin

A:Windows Update faulty

Do one at at time

If the updates require restarting, more than one causes a conflict.

Windows Update used to run really fast but now, when I try to run Windows Update from the Help and support menu it never goes through, its just a white screen.

If i navigate to http://update.microsoft.com/ in IE8 it will work but it is VERY VERY slow but when it finally does go through the updates download and install really fast.

does anyone know what could be wrong and what I can do?

Thanks

A:Solved: Windows Update faulty

There are a number of ways to fix Widnows Update issues. The easiest is to download a program called Dial-A-Fix and run the Windows Update repair on it. There are other programs but Dial-A-Fix works everytime I use it.

I have encountered three machines in just the last five days with the following symptoms:
Printers have all disappeared from Control Panel
Plug and Play service is turned off and cannot be turned on.
Printers cannot be set up because Plug and Play is turned off
USB devices are not recognized. Plugging one in produces no result--no ding--nothing.
Many other essential services are also turned off and cannot be turned on.
The internet works fine except downloads just don't happen
All three of the systems encountered have identical symptoms. All three have up-to-date antivirus. None show any positives from MalwareBytes. All three of these were configured for Automatic Windows Updates; but, all HP and other updating software had been uninstalled months ago. Each of these computers were in different locations with different owners. All three had Norton Antivirus.

Anyone else experience this?

A:Is this a virus, malware or just a faulty Windows update?

Forgot to mention that all three were HP systems, two running Vista and one XP.

This is for anyone who wishes to uninstall the Windows Live Mail app faulty update which was supposed to make the app compatible with the new hotmail/outlook settings but crashed the app (in my case I could no longer use the calendar).

Info posted from here: https://messengergeek.wordpress.com/...tch-kb3093594/
If you want to go ahead and try to install the patch or if you already did, you can revert/uninstall the patch by pressing -R (Windows Key and R) on the keyboard, then copy/paste the following:msiexec /package {B775C26B-EAA8-4A11-ACBF-76E52DF6B805} /uninstall {342DCD5D-5946-453B-97AC-D53B7662EDF5}

Then press enter or click OK. When prompted, choose Repair. You should then be back to version 16.4.3528.0331.

Hey folks.

Long story short, been plauged by random and infrequent BSODs on this self built system since I put it together a few months ago. Through trying different things I've been able to get rid of freezes and some BSOD's but left with a persistent few. The dumps and pref file attached are from this few day old reinstall on the 3rd hard drive I've tried.

I've suspected different components/drivers over time but can't seem to pinpoint the culprit. Any help would be appreciated.

Things I've tried:
Hotfixs, 7 passes of memtest on all ram and individual sticks, different harddrives, SFC /scannow, intelburntest, prime95, furmark, updated all and changed around some drivers, installing ATI drivers without CCC, lowering ram timings, increasing voltages and probably lots of other things I can't remember right now.

I don't run zonealarm and the antivirus is MSE.

I have a PC that is getting a conflict message. Apparently, another PC on the same subnet is using the same address. Is there a command that will show which PC's are using the same address? I tried nslookup, but it only showed 1 of the PC's at that address. I am trying to hunt down the conflicting PC, but it will be very difficult if I have to do it manually...there are a lot of computers on that subnet, all of which are using static IP addresses.
Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

A:Pinpointing an IP address conflict? How?

SuperScan from FoundStone will scan the subnet and tell you all the IP addresses in use, and the computer name associated with them.

I did a windows update, installed everything critical, and restarted. When it booted up again, I got the message:

"Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, windows must restore the original versions of these files"

"Insert your Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD now."

Did this happen to anyone else? I did put my disk in, and that fixed the problem, but it tells me that the same critical update needs to be installed. I'm not sure I want to install it yet...

A:Possible faulty security update?

I have had the same thing happen on my computer after a change. In fact, we had the same thing come up on a couple of computers at work, and we did exactly as you did, and never saw the message again. I wouldn't worry about it... unless it becomes a regular message.Continue on with you updates. With that said, you should always have a back-up of your data.Microsoft also has a support page about the message with more details:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=222193Good-luck,

Running the last 10 memory dumps.....

I'd suggest starting with these free hardware diagnostics: Initial Hardware Diagnostics. Be sure to run MemTest86+ for at least 3 passes (overnight is better).

Running 10 memory dumps generated over 6 days (4 to 10 Jun 2012)
5 different BSOD error codes cited (plus 2 corrupted memory dumps)
4 different causes blamed

This is most likely a hardware error. They (hardware errors) are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- overclocking - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

Video drivers are outdated (they date from May 2011). Please update them from the AMD/ATI website: Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD

Beyond that I don't see much in the way of other suspects - so I'd have to say it's most likely a hardware error. I'm thinking of the hard drive - due to the one dump that blames ntfs.sys and the 2 corrupted dumps - but that's just a guess. Try the hardware diagnostics that I linked to above and see if they pin the blame on something.

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

Hey guys,
Thank you for taking a look at my dump files. Long story short, I built this computer last May and it has had persistent stability problems. Every couple months I will get a BSOD. I keep it updated, run MSE scans frequently, and am not OC'ing anything. The most recent BSOD was preceded by an error that mentioned power, but I don't remember the exact wording. My system specs are on my profile. Thanks again!

Hi,
I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

Thanks,
Marlon

I believe drivers? faulty BSOD 116 card or graphics faulty the initial crash was caused by overheating Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time more on that later Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine I can boot into safe mode and I have already reinstalled windows My motherboard is Asus B M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV A GTX How I got it to work for a short amount of time I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed

Two times in the last week my monitor (a KDS visual sensations CRT) has come on with the image looking like an hourglass (wide at the top and bottom, pinched in the center). This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

i ve been attempting to reinstall faulty installation xp windows windows xp on my months old pc using an oem windows xp sp cd that came with the computer this is the first time i ve installed windows on this computer it had previously been installed by the store although i ve successfully installed xp on other computers a half-dozen times before During the installation process - i choose to delete the one partition that existed and create a new one using all the unpartitioned space - after formatting the hd an error message appears saying the a file n nls or something like that could not be copied windows xp faulty installation across firstly i attempted to fix this by cleaning the cd it looks fine but still no luck so now i switch to another windows xp sp cd that came with our other computer and continue - it successfully copies some more files but comes up with the same problem at another file i swap back to the original cd and it now appears to successfully copy across the rest of the files - during the installation process i enter all the settings with no problems and installation continues although it seems to hang for about minutes on quot saving settings quot After installation certain aspects don t appear right - windows loads in the windows theme - accessing the display panel there is no option to switch to the normal windows xp theme - on creating new usernames i notice that there are no images to select as profile pictures just the red x - restarting installing video card drivers does nothing to rectify the situation i reinstalled windows xp again and followed the exact same steps ran into the exact same problems and got the same post-installation result thus i m lead to believe that at some step in the installation either when copying the installation files from cd or during the installing stage that something is getting messed up leading to the problems i m seeing in xp and i m guessing there would be more if i looked for them i don t think that the xp cd looks damaged although i ve never used it before although i find it hard to believe that the other cd is also damaged the cd drive was working well otherwise including reading files just prior to reinstallation and after installing the faulty xp copy can someone please help me out it s been an extremely frustrating process as it takes a few hours to go through the whole xp installation and to troubleshoot steps so does anyone know what the problem might be and how i might fix it Thanks Erebos nbsp

First question what kind of computer is it and or its specs? Anyway sounds like the computer is running in 16 bit. Which leads me to believe that its a video problem.

Did you make any hardware changes before you reinstalled the OS?

Also make sure you have the correct drivers for the computer.

Hi I have a problem I am unable to fix since I reinstalled Windows It concerns playing mp s with WMP that did play before the reinstall but not anymore after So last week I upgraded the hardware from my computer This involved a new motherboard Ever since I cannot play certain mp s anymore WMP faulty Windows codecs 12 7? I am not using a sound card just the onboard one I also used the onboard on my old motherboard so that may have changed But when I removed the drivers I installed that were on the DVD of the motherboard it made no difference I let Windows install its own drivers In my old WMP 12 faulty codecs Windows 7? configuration I used to have both Media Player Codec and Windows Codec Pack installed They probably do the same thing but it worked WMP 12 faulty codecs Windows 7? try uninstalling both codec packages and reinstall only one of them.

also, unless you really need media player, I would suggest using vlc. most likely you will never need to download a codec again.

Until yesterday, I was able to use the Show Windows Stacked and Show Windows Side by Side options just fine. Yesterday, however, the functions started failing without any formal error being shown.

What would happen is that I would select my windows to be stacked from the toolbar as normal, select the option, and then the windows would only shift from their Maximized state slightly; each window would still take up the full display, but only shrink down just enough for the windows' size to be manually adjusted instead.

Needless to say, this has proven to be a nuisance. Unfortunately, I don't recall making any changes to the system that would warrant this kind of a failure. Anyone else aware of how to address this problem, or at least familiar with it?

A:Faulty Windows Boot

Windows 8.1 is the best desktop OS so far and has many ways to recover from most issues. Boot the computer from the Windows 8.1 installation DVD, when you get to the 'Install now' window, use the 'Repair my computer' link. Allow the process to finish. If it is unable to do so, you will be given additional instructions, one of those would be a 'refresh' which is an in place reinstallation. You can try that (assuming you have all of your files backed up). If you need to reinstall from scratch, be sure to choose the correct partition because you are using a GPT disk, so you must choose the original OS partition for a reinstall.

I was just reading today people are having problems with USB devices with Windows Vista and copying files it takes a long time.

Also people having problems with programs and icons disappearing and the computer slow at booting up.

Are there fixes for this ? Or is this other one of those Windows Vista gremlins?

I almost second guess if I should updrade to Windows Vista .But than Windows XP SP3 looks very bad.

I'm not highly tech savvy but I will find out how to do anything needed.

Of the 20 odd times my pc has turned off - only the first time did I have BSOD. It might be unrelated as it was some weeks before this problem.

My computer turns off during any game I play. (And then when I try to turn it on sometimes is turns off) but it doesn't only turn off during games. The computer becomes warm, but not hot (a few months ago it got very hot, but I now use an underneath cooling fan).

After it switches off, sometimes it runs 'Pre-boot System Assessment 4124'.
The computer will always turn off when testing 'Memory - WCMch test'.

Does this mean there is something wrong my memory?

HELP!! to receive numerous error messages including there is no Path for anything About this time I restart and the old HD registers again so in a desperate and lapse of judgement attempt I booted into the recovery usb and dragged the system files to the new HD needless to say it does not work It tells me preparing desktop every time I boot multiple error messages no way to access files How do I potentially salvage what is in my docs downloads and programs and get the proper system files so when I boot it will be normal again I have partitions a useless recovery I presume the primary with OS and boot and a third I can't quite remember at the moment Anyway hope I have provided enough detail Thanks Sincerely misterseek

A:Faulty Clone, Old HDD dead, No Windows 7 CD. HELP!!

At this time you would probably be best off backing up the data and reloading Windows.  You can download the Windows 7 ISO from Digital River.  The link are in this Microsoft thread.

Pull the drive and attach it to another machine to copy the data off.

You can copy the data and downloads, but programs will need to be reinstalled.  Normally you want the non-hidden files from C:\Users\USERNAME where USERNAME is the name of the user that you want the data from.  This may be Owner or Administrator on a manufactured machine.

After you have the data off of the drive.  Format and reinstall Windows.  You will want to download drivers from the manufacturer's website.  Specifically you want the chipset, network, and video drivers.  After those are installed the machine should be sufficiently operational to do the rest on the fresh install.

Hi

I have been trying to install Windows 7 onto an Asus X5DIJ with Ubuntu installed on it. The Ubuntu install was on the laptop when I got it but won't get passed the login screen. My only other computer is an HP Mini Netbook which I used to make bootable USB. The USB is a brand new 32gb SanDisk Cruzer Extreme 3.0 and I used the Windows USB Installer tool to make a bootable version of Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit from a legal iso downloaded from heidoc.net. I've set the BIOS to boot from Removable Disk but whenever I start the laptop up it just goes ahead with the faulty Ubuntu boot. I checked the POST and the usb is showing there and the light on the usb blinks at startup. Any ideas?

Thanks

Can you double-check to see that the bootable USB drive is inserted into a USB2.0 port, not a USB3.0 port?

Hi.

I have a computer that randomly crashes during the day.
Minidumps refer to ntoskrnl.exe.
I've read a few of the threads here related to ntoskrnl, but I'm not getting any wiser.

Tried a full reinstall of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but that didn't seem to help either

I recently changed the RAM from one single 2GB-chip to Two 2GB-chips. Could it be the chips?

But now, when i try to reinstall my OS, it installs quite "well" or so i thought meaning, the OS completed installation with no errors or problems being reported but as i use the FRESHLY formatted PC, it starts to slow down meaning the processor can't seem to handle the same work as it did before, data transfer rate slowed down dramatically, some programs fails to install perfectly, audio not working, startup/shutdown slower, etc., which is totally not the way it used to behave before.

Hello.
Eh getting weird problem with Windows 10 Pro.

So few days ago when i ran memtest few hours without error, but after finished test i reboot pc and Automatiic repair started before windows. Is this something with memory ? Memory trigger that error? Or it is software issue? Coincidence ?

When starting Windows 10 boot loader starts by "preparing automatic repair" and diagnosing pc.
Interesting is that if I restart Windows (after procedure mentioned earlier) it will boot normally. This startup problem occurs only when starting system again after shutdown or restarted pc from windows. So i need 2 boots to boot properly to windows.
My disk is Samsung Evo 250 GB SSD. I run HD TUNE but no errors and CrystalDiskInfo Smart is fine 100% GOOD. Rams are 2x8gb DDR3 Kingston Hyperx 1600mhhz.

So its a hardware related or not? What you think about it ? Thx for answer.

Hello,

Here is the situation: Partition Table Doctor suggested I change the total sector number of my hard disk for some unknown reason, and I did. After I rebooted, Vista wouldn't boot. I had something like this happen on my other computer, and I used the Windows 7 disc to fix the MBR in a jiffy.

But I am wondering whether there is any danger in using Windows 7 install disc to fix a Vista x64 Home (not sure if Premium) Master Boot Record. I don't have a Vista disc because Gateway didn't include one with the laptop when I bought it.

Thanks for your help.

A:Can I use Windows 7 install disc to fix faulty Vista Master Boot Record?

Hello ayuda, and welcome to Vista Forums.

No, you wouldn't be able to use the Windows 7 installation disc to do startup repair on Vista.

However, if you like, you can download an official Vista with SP1 ISO file here: Microsoft: Vista Direct Download Links, and use Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool to create a bootable installation DVD or USB flash drive with the ISO to do a startup repair with.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi there Recently there was internet mobile removing Windows 3 Recovery connection since virus faulty a Windows Recovery virus on my PC which I removed by installing and running the RKill program following advice I found online After that I could not use the Connect program to connect to the internet when I tried I got an error message saying 'The connection attempt failed 3 mobile internet connection faulty since removing Windows Recovery virus Please make sure your device is connected to your computer and that your settings 3 mobile internet connection faulty since removing Windows Recovery virus are 3 mobile internet connection faulty since removing Windows Recovery virus correct Would you like to attempt to connect again now ' It still would not connect even after I'd checked that the dongle was plugged in and working etc etc and once open the Connect program could only be closed by ending it via the task manager I found that I could connect without the Connect program by selecting Start gt Connect to gt and then choosing ' Connect Dial-up connection' This connects via my wireless dongle and not via a dial-up as the description suggests My problem now is that the connection is unreliable clicking on the taskbar icon featuring two little computer screens one behind the other sorry I don't know what it's called sometimes shows 'Access Local and internet' but sometimes 'Access Local only' After searching for solutions online I tried to resolve the problem using Microsoft's 'Fix it' program found at Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers This failed so I tried to fix it manually following the steps described on the same webpage The problem is that the manual solution requires locating the registry subkey 'HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services Tcpip Parameters Interfaces GUID ' - and my computer's registry seems to have no entry called GUID Searching the registry using the CTRL F function didn't find it anywhere else either If anyone has any suggestions for how to resolve the problem I'd be very grateful Rebecca

I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore. I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.I really would appreciate help.

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!
Nelson Davis

"We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

I am connected to internet, Mozilla firefox is ok, utorrent is ok, everything is fine except windows update.
I have try disable the firewall, turn off windows defender, disable antivirus, none of it work.
I downloaded windows10 update assistant, did not work.
I don't know what is blocking windows update form connecting to internet.

Any suggestion? or perhaps solution.

I use a Macbook Pro, and when booting on Mac OS the wire works perfectly well, however when switching over to windows 7 the image is very weird it's very grainy, with lots of red dots and lines going through the image, and the image is also always flickering. I've altered every aspect resolution, tried every possible combination of hrtz and also updated the graphics driver. Yet still no difference, can anyone possibly explain to me why this is and if theres a solution. Thanks.

I recently came across a problem where this troubleshooter says my windows update is missing or corrupt. Is there anything wrong with my computer?

Your firewall settings may be blocking Windows Updates, or because the proxy override settings are incorrect:

When I used the Windows Update Troubleshooter on my PC after a (reset-Windows, it "wiped" away (view update history). Is there a solution to stop this behavior?

My Surface Pro (1st generation) is running Windows 10 and I have it set to update Windows automatically. It's been doing that fine. Recently though I noticed that it always offers me 'Update and shut down' instead of just 'Shut down'. So I let it update. Next time I use the machine and come to shut it down, it makes me update again. And while it's updating, it certainly looks like it's trying to update rather than just shutting down.
According to my Windows Update history, the last successful update was on 15th September. But it's listing no update failures either, which is suspicious.
Anyone got any ideas?

The November 10 Windows 7 updates caused my Outlook 2013 to crash after it starts. I attempted to restore my PC with a Windows Restore prior to the previous date but it failed so completely that I could not start my computer. The screen recommended doing
a repair with the Windows disk but mine dates to Service Pack 1 and I doubt that it would work with my Service Pack 2.
I had to replace my C Programs partition with a backup that I had to resume operation. I've disabled any more Windows updates until I get information on this problem being fixed.
Can anyone help me here?

I am trying to update from Windows 10 OS Build 10586.589 to the Anniversary Update but my computer freezes at 1% progress. I have tried everything I can think of including: Unplugging all extra SATA drives except my main SSD, unplugging my wireless network adapter, unplugging all USB devices (even mouse and keyboard), removing old drivers and updating outdated ones, and installing the update through a USB flash drive. It always gets to the same part and freezes until I shutdown my computer and lose no data.

You can see pictures of the frozen screen here: http://imgur.com/a/PseoH.

A:First major update to Windows 10 Preview, delivered through Windows Update

And they call this "slow" type updates? I'd not want to think what they'd be if these were on the fast track.

One thing to keep in mind, that is if one has the chance, if there's installed security in the place of Windows Defender, remove it before upgrades. Otherwise, and was the case with me, it wouldn't work anymore, wouldn't repair, uninstall, nor could I enable Windows Defender until it could be fixed (I have an image, but am not going to bother).

These early Technical Previews are the equivalent of Developer Previews of Windows 8 three years ago, which I knew existed, but never ran. I started on the Consumer Previews, and won't participate in the program anymore until these are available, hopefully by mid to late February.

Windows has a tool called Disk2vhd, this may be a good time to install VirtualBox & test any installed Technical Previews out further, while they're still in running condition. Remember for this tool to create VirtualBox bootable VM's, the vdhx box must be unchecked, it can only use vhd files to make bootable VM's. Only certain virtual software can use the vdhx files.

So i found this article Windows 10 Installs Automatically On Windows 7 And Windows 8 - Forbes which says to use this Download Windows 10 Technical Preview - Microsoft Windows. My question is well this windows 10 update delete or change my Recovery partition to win10. if i dont like it id like to use the recovery partition to go back to win7. also does Microsoft know what software or what u do on win 10 tech preview.

im installing this on my pc i use everyday i know they say not to but its time for a reinstall of win7 and i thought id try win10

A:Windows 10 Technical Preview Update thru Win7's windows update

Don`t do it on your Windows 7 machine. Uninstall the update and hide it, if that`s what you mean.

Installing 10 to your W7 partition should have no affect on your recovery partition, but I wouldn`t chance it, no way.

Install Windows 10 on a separate drive, first unplugging the W7 drive, they do not dual boot well together.

Install 10 in a VM if you really want to look at it, it is nothing special and not worth the effort.

That update will roll out automatically to members of the Windows Insider program, and it will be delivered through Windows Update.

The operating system upgrade is a little more heavyweight than a regular hotfix; systems will need to reboot to finish installation, and Microsoft says that the reboot will take longer than normal.

The major feature of the new build is that it contains the first iteration of Windows 10's notification center. At the moment, it's a simple collection of historic notifications. Microsoft says that future builds will add more capabilities to the notification center, such as the ability to take actions in response to notifications.

My computer is running Windows Enterprise and Windows Update refuses to download and install the version update I've tried to press quot Search for updates Windows Update Find 10 Can't Update Enterprise Windows - 1511 quot Windows 10 Enterprise - Windows Update Can't Find Update 1511 multiple times but it still keeps telling me that it's updated The last update apart from Windows Defender updates was KB which was installed days ago The installation of Windows itself was made longer than one month ago so the day protection shouldn't be an issue either I've tried to search for a solution but all I could find included downloading the ISO file and install it manually which I'd like to avoid as I then must Windows 10 Enterprise - Windows Update Can't Find Update 1511 burn it on a disc and I'd prefer Windows 10 Enterprise - Windows Update Can't Find Update 1511 if Windows Update could just take care of it as it does with the other updates So my questions are Is this normal should Enterprise versions get these major updates via Windows Update or not Is there anyone here that also use the Enterprise version and have received the update via Windows Update Are there any solutions to this problem apart from updating with an ISO

A:Windows 10 Enterprise - Windows Update Can't Find Update 1511

I don't think Enterprise upgrades to next major builds through Windows Updates. That is so the corporation using Enterprise can maintain control of the versions of software on their computers which is extremely important for compatibility reasons among others.

Why can't you just mount a downloaded ISO file and run setup.exe from the mounted ISO file? Why do you have to burn it to DVD first?

A:Windows Vista Crashes after I install update from windows update

Hello none21,
Go in to the Bios, and make the first boot device the DVD/CD drive, insert the Vista DVD/CD and reboot, it should now boot from the Vista disk, from there you will be able to carry out a repair, or set it back to the point before you installed the update with system restore.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I couldn't run windows update automatically. If I run windows update from the Start menu, it will come back with "error code 8024402C or 80244019 Windows Update Encounter an Unknown Error".

If I try to type in windows update address to go to the website, it will be rerouted to msn.com

Meanwhile, update for Windows defense has also failed.

My IE also has been running slow.

Any suggestion that I can update windows and solve all the problem?

Thank you very much,
Amanada

Anyone doing a fresh install of Windows should manually install SP if needed The Windows Update Update Update Latest Agent Windows - Windows Client Agent was renamed to Windows Update Client Manually requesting a search for Windows Updates on a Windows computer with SP install should prompt the user to install a pre-SP Windows Update WU Agent Seems odd That old WU Agent worked just fine until Microsoft changed the update servers The info coming back from the servers seems to now cause high RAM CPU usage for some computers but that old WU Agent should eventually get the job done The computer might be useless for any other task for hours You can skip installing that old WU Agent and manually install the latest WU Client instead Or you can manually install the latest WU Client over top of that old WU Agent However below is what I encountered when I went to install the latest Windows Update Client on a W pro bit SP computer I started by using these search terms in Google quot Windows Update Client quot quot March quot quot Windows quot As this post ages replace quot March quot with the current month year If that does not Latest Windows Update Client - Windows Update Agent find the desired KB try the previous month That lead me to this link for March KB The W pro bit SP computer has IE installed by default Visiting KB via IE got me this Clicking on the link to update the browser got me this Clicking on the link to quot Continue to this website quot got me this I am not a happy camper at this point Here are the direct links to the downloads to the WU Client for March Quote All supported x -based versions of Windows Download the package now All supported x -based versions of Windows Download the package now

A:Windows 7 SP1 update failed, causing Windows Update errors

Well; one thing i can tell ya is that when it says cannot update while files in are in use basically means you need to restart your system. Try restarting and see what happens. It may tell you either when the system is in the process of restarting; that its configuring updates. Do not do a hard power down as that can cause even more issues while its updating.

Hi, i recently built a new machine and having installed win7 successfully and then updated to SP1 without issues, but the next download was the above WUA , and that has nuked win updates, all it does is pretend to be searching for updates and stays /hangs like that until i stop the service manually or restart, I have spend hrs searching for a solution that works , No doubt this is a deliberate ploy by Microcrap to push everyone on to their data mining win 10 ,and i will not install that untill this changes and as well as them cutting out the bloat

Reboot the PC, then try installing the latest update client and see if it speeds up the scans:

We couldn't install Windows 10
0xC1900101 - 0x40017
We've set you PC back to where it was right before you started installing Windows 10
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation
What was tried: Connected straight to ethernet, Turned off wireless and Defender A/V, Removing the D/L files, D/L fresh from ISO file, launched install file, went through approx 50% and PC rebooted - nor stuck on black screen with swirling dots for OVER 4 hours with a brief HD access every couple of seconds.
Rebooted again -- still swirling dots on black screen. Tried again, same results.
Rebooted with F8 to get original Win 10 back.
Turned on "metered connection" option for WLAN to stop this update from happening. But now I cannot get and security updates for this machine.
Please suspend this D/L until fixed. Cannot afford to have no protection!

Comparing your problems to someone else's is not the right thing to doIt is highly unlikely that you have the same hardware and software setup, for startersIf you are unable to connect to the internet, try safe mode w/networkingIf that doesn't work and you have access to another computer, you can burn these applications to a CD or download to a flash driveThe process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.
