I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can change your hd for ssd at least 100 GB . Buy a case for external HD, and use the original hd of her machine, as the same external hd . replace the memory of 1 GB for a 2 GB . Your D525 will be very fast.

I recently purchased an emachines d525 laptop and am troubled by the fact that it won't shut down normally. The only way to do it is to force it by holding the power button. I have searched the internet and found this to be a problem with emachines in general. I tried a dos command shutdown that I found on another forum, but it still starts back up. Does anyone here know how to fix this? Since it is a laptop, I'm concerned even more since I would like to use battery power, but the battery won't last without being able to shut it down normally!
When I've forced it to shutdown, I get the black trouble screen saying that it didn't shut down normally...

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated,

Does anyone know whether or not I can upgrade my current processor? I have an eMachines WMCP78M motherboard. The current processor is a 2.4 Ghz AMD Athlon LE-1620. I just bought this computer, but with single core processors going the way of the dinosaur I wanted to know if I could upgrade this while the AM2 socket is still serviced. This case is a low profile case. In other forums, I've read that I may need to upgrade the cooling fan if I upgrade the processor. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all

So i got this pc today from a guy at work. I was going to replace his power supply for him but first he took it to best buy to have them check and see what the deal was and if he still had a warranty. Well warranty was up and it is the board that is fried..So he wanted me to check on finding him a replacement. Well today he decided to just not mess with it so he gave it to me.

Here is the problem. I'm pretty experienced with replacing hardware but i have never messed with a MB and i'm not sure what to look for. It's an ET1831-05

I'm not sure I'm new to upgrading comps outside of ram and drives ect. for the money price was right. A friend bought me a new emachines with Celeron Dual core 2.0 Ghz and good ram ect. but i was wondering if i could swap out the cpu for a better one i know what the FSB it has and class of cpu's it supports. i was looking a core 2 duo or core 2 quad they match and are supported by the board i no PSU and fans would need updated as well but what all would i Have to do or would the stock emachines install of window and my bio mess with me. as i said i'm kinda new to the more in depth tweaks. Any help is appreciated.

A:Emachines upgrade?

Bear in mind , e-machines are made cheaply to sell cheaply. While you might be able to upgrade the CPU, the other components would probably bottleneck. In short, it probably isn't worth it. You might be able to add some ram, but I really wouldn't waste the money on a cheap budget computer like e machines. If you haven't already done so - replace the PSU - emachines are notorious for blowing PSUs which in turn take out the mobo.

I have an emachines t2542, and I've heard about problems with them and upgrade capabilities and everything, but I am trying to upgrade the motheboard.

Here are the full specs for my machine. NOTE: I added an extra stick of 512mb ram and a visiontek xtasy with an ati radeon 9100 chipset video card.

Will someone help me pick out a GOOD motherboard that fits this machine? I'm looking to spend 50 to 70 dollars on one. I also don't know the form factor of the motherboard.

I'll also be upgrading the videocard soon too.

My wife has an emachines model T-3624 desktop that had Win XP Home installed when we bought it. I would like to install XP Pro on the machine. I have XP Pro disk and product key.

Can I just insert the disk and load XP Pro or are there issues with this because it's an emachine? The machine has a recovery partition.

A:Upgrade emachines with XP to XP Pro Question

as long as the xp pro is not being used on another computer and is either a full retail or upgrade version, you should be able to use it. You may have to go to emachines website and download their drivers after the install.

If it is oem or from another computer you cannot.

i have this older emachines PC i just picked up,, It has windows vista on it (yuk) along with a recovery partition to reset it back to factory specs.

I shrank the C: drive and split the drive so i now have:
C: W7U
D: Vista
E: Emachines Recovery
Or well thats how im trying to get it set up BUT everytime i install W7 the machine thinks it needs to be recovered and boots into system recovery options.
Im lost theres bound to be a way to disable it from the bios maybe? Any one have any ideas??
Im posting here first,, guess ill research and see why i can find or see if one of you guys here can help???

A:Older Emachines, trying to upgrade to W7U

Are you trying to upgrade vista or do clean install?

I'd recommend clean install if W7U dvd supports. There I'd merge c and d and format. If setup won't even start... Then use bootable gparted cd or live ubuntu and partition and format that way... Then w7 setup should start fine.

Pull drivers folder off vista install in case you need them

Hi, I noticed there was a post by member visschan titled
Solved: eMachines EL1333G-01w CPU Upgrade HELP please!
Basically member was typing to find an upgrade CPU for EL1333G-01w

I also have the same machine and was enthused that there was an upgrade path. I did the same research on the CPUs and ended up purchasing a Athlon Neo X2 6650e which is a 35W dual core CPU. I was after the lowest power CPU I could get since the machine is on most of the day.

Well I did the installation and powered on. The CPU runs but hangs as it tries to boot Windows. I read that the BIOS might need upgrading before changing a CPU core. Anyone know if its a BIOS issue or is the 6650e different to say 5050e or 4850e?

Any help Appreciated.

A:eMachines EL1333G-01w CPU Upgrade

Some more information on this issue:

The BIOS is Phoenix-Award version P01-A4. It has a release date of 12/17/2009. I checked around and as far as I could make out that's the latest for this machine. The BIOS does run. everything looks normal at that stage.

I make a bootdisk with this ISO "X17-59465.iso" and tried to boot from that. it loads files, then comes up with the "Starting Windows" screen but that's as far as it just hangs on that screen

If I pop the 2850e CPU that was originally in it back in it behaves normally. Evidence is that the 6650e is running ie its not DOA.

the search continues

A:Upgrade motherboard in emachines pc

Normally when you swap MB's it would be best to re-install windows , Drivers etc.XP may make you re.register because of the significant hardware change.
There are many other drivers than just the IDE controller to consider.
Also Emachines are not the most upgrade friendly.I would first go to their Web and see what they support for this upgrade.
Let us know what you learn their.
You cannot use another XP disk as your oem license will not be accepted by it.

On an SFF system with a 220w PSU your video card options are going to be rather limited.

Here are some recommendations:
ECS NGT430C-1GQR-F GeForce GT 430 = $57 ($37 after rebate)
ASUS ENGT430/DI/1GD3(LP) GeForce GT 430 = $60

A Geforce 430 is about the max you can go with that PSU. Make sure that any card you get has a fan since that SFF case gets pretty hot and doesn't have great airflow so a fan less card will likely bake in there.

Ok, I have this emachine computer and don't feel like buying a new one, I just want to be able to have dual display.

I've heard way too many horror stories with emachines and video upgrades. So should I just keep the onboard and just get a single 24'' or something?

I don't want to fry my mother board and I'm not hardware savy at all.

Or if there is a good tutorial for video upgrades for this exact machine somewhere that would be awesome, but doubt it.

Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

A:Upgrade options ..eMachines T6000

Can you include some details on the PSU?

I went through much the same situation with this old HP I used to have. I popped in a Geforce 5200 in 2004, it worked fine for a while, and began to lag behind. I seriously considered upgrading it, but I figured I could get the cash to build a new rig.

As for my amateur advice, I would say build early. Wait until DX10 crests on the market, and some good, mid-level cards with support come out (don't splurge for the 8800, in a few years they won't even be average-performance cards). So that'd be about 5 months.

If you can't stand it until then, I would recommend just a moderate upgrade. Nvidia is selling off some old AGP cards- 6800's and whatnot, which would get you decent performance to tide you over until you build a new system.

Also, nothing you buy is going to be even moderately effective if you keep that RAM the way it is. 512 MB is not too much of an upgrade, and with the oh-so-common PC3200 standard waning it's especially cheap right now. You can get 512 MB budget memory for anywhere from 30-70 dollars, depending on whether you do it online or not.

Hope this helped.

A few years ago I bought my 4 kids 4 eMachines running Vista, I upgraded the video to the 8900 gso w/512mb memory and installed 2 gigs of DDR2 RAM in each machine...

The machines are getting a little old for their game playing

I am wondering what I can do to cost effectively upgrade performance

I was thinking about just changing out the CPU do you think that will give a performance increase worthy of the time / trouble, I cannot afford to buy new motherboards and cpu's or a new OS.

I downloaded cpuz and here are some screen shots

A:Upgrade CPU - eMachines T3638 w/Celeron 420

SSD for overall increase. But that won't do anything for gaming. I'd say your CPU needs an upgrade more than your GPU, but that runs into a couple more questions - I have no idea what that board supports other than LGA 775, for example, could you put a Core2Quad in it? The other question is what resolution are the monitors they are using? If you do another GPU upgrade you'll likely need a PSU upgrade as well...

Unfortunately for you (and for my desktop) DDR2 ram isn't very cheap compared to DDR3.

What is your budget? Perhaps recycling case, kb, mouse, monitor, possibly psu but doubtful, you could end up building new systems. I know you didn't want to do a new motherboard, but if we have a budget to work with that would help.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where or what I should buy? I watched a few videos on youtube on how to do the replacement but how do I know all the plugs on the new unit are the same and will fit? Because if they don't, I'll be more confused than I already am.

I'm not certain if the image above is what you have but I'm thinking it is.

1x 4pin (P4)

2x SATA power
Does your power supply have these and only these?

I cannot find any upgrade info from emachine/gateway on your system. Honestly emachine uses very low end parts and I highly doubt it is going to support a 4core cpu like a 9850. IMO if you want a better/faster system, your money would be much better invested in a refurbished dell. Generally you can pick one up for $200 or so with 4gig of ram and a modern cpu AND the system can be upgraded to win10. BTW win10 is NOT a supported os for your current system as per the support page for your system.

Motherboard: TriGem Lumita
Motherboard chipset: Intel 810e Chipset
Intel Celeron 1.4 GHz Level 2 Cache 256mb

Thanks for your help!

Having read the stickies I am looking for a PSU recommendation. I would also like to upgrade my RAM and am seeking a recommendation for that as well. Newegg will be my source for both unless I'm directed elsewhere.

Currently I have the stock 2 sticks of 256MB and have 2 slots open. 4GB is the max. capacity for this unit. The sticky I read leaves me wondering how far I should go with this. I am led to believe that DDR-333 (PC2700) would work for me.

I've only taken my case off once to vacuum out the dust bunnies. Never the less I believe I can manage to do this much on my own. This is my first computer (3 years old now) and I've yet to approach it's capabilities. I am still a novice. Thanks.

Hello CM Mate I don' think you are going to make that CPU speed mate as the CPU support on that boards site

only lists up to that 2.93Ghz dual core the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 (B2) now having spent a bit of time rehashing such machines some of these older cores can be quite hard to find and expensive at that I recently tried to find Q5500 quad and it was more than a current i7!

Personally that E4700 looks the go for what you want.

Can you load up a few of the machines specs too mate as it would be good to see what you currently have CPU, RAM, and drive wise too.

Plus going to larger and better things you might have to look at testing the PSU to see if it will cope!

But specs first ok?
The BIOS and stuff can be sorted once the hardware is sorted.

The key question on upgrading the video card is how powerful is the PSU. Please provide the make and model number of it and the total wattage and how many volts on the 12v leg. If you are not sure how to do this or what I am asking for, take a look at this page - about half way down.

The rest of the page - and webiste - also provide good info about upgrading a video card so you might want to browse it too. But don't expect to be able to put too strong a video card in it. You might find some helpful information on low power requirement video cards on this page of the above site:

Although it is targeted at general purpose and HTPC systems, some of the faster cards on that page do allow some basic gaming.

No, it won't work. That board only supports Celeron D, Pentium D, and Pentium 4 boards according to the intel spec page:

I think you should really consider upgrading to a new motherboard or get a whole new system altogether because the upgrade path for your current board is a dead end.

A:processor upgrade from 35 to 45 w

Hi: I would be concerned with the higher wattage too, but the bigger concern would be that we have no idea if the BIOS in your PC has the microcode to support the 3630QM. Without the microcode to support the processor, it won't work at all. And since that processor is not listed as supported in the manual, I doubt it will work.

A:Processor Upgrade?

Scotty in a nutshell mate and after having quite few Toshibas I would not try the effort upgrading is quite involved and if you are not familiar with swapping out CPU's in laptops then it could need up you rendering it useless.

If it is a bit more performance you want the try this

The only other thing I can suggest is the first thing that Brink refers to in that tutorial - a SSD and dump the Toshiba bloatware by doing a clean install on the SSD Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Could you please suggest me the best upgrade for my laptop with processor and graphic card

A:Which is the best processor upgrade

Here is the Service Manual: Manual You have the Pentium B950. The motherboard is only able to accept Pentium processors. See p. 19. The only "upgrade" you can do is to a slightly faster Pentium processor like the P6300. Not worth the effort in my opinion. The video is also limited by the motherboard. The video chip is soldered on. You have the Intel HD video and there is a motherboard with discrete video which would be somewhat better. If you were going to do that you might as well also get the motherboard that would accept an i5 processor. But the cost of the new motherboard and processor and heatsink would certainly exceed what you paid for that laptop. The CQ57 series was widely offered as a low-priced doorbuster special. You would be much better off with a new laptop.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

If money is no object then you might as well go ahead and do it. However, IMO it would not be worth the cost. I doubt the performance increase would be that significant and with an old Socket A motherboard you can't really upgrade to anything current. Personally, I would keep the current processor and just wait until you get an entirely new computer with socket AM2 or something like that.

Of course, if you want to buy it and sell me your current CPU for a good price... It is pretty difficult to even find Socket A processors these days.

You need a Socket A (also known as Socket 462) CPU. I'm not familiar with them, but I think that the fastest CPU for it could be an Athlon XP 3200+. You'd need information on your particular motherboard to know whether its BIOS supports that. (Key feature: 400Hz FSB.)

You may not be able to buy a Socket A CPU at retail, because of the age of the platform. They seem to be readily available on eBay.

I can't say whether such an upgrade would be worth the effort.

I've not had a problem with my processor until now, because I've not been into anything all that processor intensive before. But now, I've found that working with video files which require a lot of encoding, runs my CPU at 100%. That is not a problem, except that I can't use the computer for anything else, during the processing...even simple programs will freeze up.

I don't want to spend the money for a real upgrade to current standards, but I'm wondering if upgrading my 4400+ S939 to a Athlon 64 FX-57 would make enough difference to make it worthwhile to upgrade it? As far as I can see, the only change would be to increase from 2200Mhz to 2800Mhz. This upgrade would cost ~ $200 for a used processor.

I have never changed my settings, but it supposedly allows you to force a certain process to use only 1 core, rather than the standard 2. That would slow down your video processing, but free up 1 core to do something else.

With a 400mHz. FSB there is nothing you can really upgrade to that would be a significant improvement.

Simply Put.
Is it possible to upgrade my processor? I haven't taken my PC apart yet, but I don't know exactly where to look to find my processor. And I don't know if it can be upgraded or not.

I do a lot of graphics work and my PC really needs a boost, so upgrading from a P4 to a Dual-core or a Quad would be a helpful step. I just hope I don't need to buy and install (if I could :/) a new motherboard. (If that is applicable)

A:Is it possible to upgrade my processor?

Open the case of your PC and find out the make and model of your motherboard (or check you manual if you have one). This can usually be found printed somewhere on the board itself. Stick that into google to find the documention and hence the processors that are supported by your mobo.

To get a significant boost you'll probably need a new mobo, CPU, more RAM and a faster hard drive (10/15k rpm).

I have a Toshiba 2615DVD laptop. It has an Intel Celeron 433 mhz. processer.

Is it possible to upgrade to a faster processer without replacing the motherboard or do I have to replace the works? And if so (Either way) where s the best place to buy the parts?

It has been a great computer but it is a bit slow by todays standards.

A:Processor upgrade

Contact Toshiba to find out if the Chip is soldered directly onto the Mobo. If it is an older unit, I bet it is.

After I install a processor to a motherboard, can I upgrade that prcessor in the future?

A:Processor upgrade?

Entirely dependent on the ability of the Motherboard as to what it will accept.

If the processor you are installing is the maximum in terms of clock speed etc that the board will accept, then no.

If the board will take a faster processor than the one you are installing, then yes.

I have an IBM Aptiva computer with an AMD-K6 500mhz computer and 120 mb of SDRAM. I'm not sure what type of motherboard it is nor do I know where to find out (no help from the Aptiva website). IBM gives no information as to whether a processor upgrade is possible or not. I know it only has 2 slots for RAM though.

I would like to upgrade the processor and the RAM. Is there an easy way I can change the amount of slots available for RAM? Can I upgrade the processor? If so am I limited to type? The current specs say max 256 RAM - will this change if I change the processor?

I have been given an older Compaq Presario 7470 with a VIA MVP4/686A chipset board with AMD K6-2 %33Mhz socket 7 processor. I maxed out the ram and I wanted to know if the processor could be upgraded. I wouls also like recommendations on where to find out what other hardware upgrades are compatible with this system. does this for dell models and I would like to know if there is a site for other brands. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am awaiting a heart transplant and cannot afford to purchase a new system. Thanks

A:Processor Upgrade

The K6 hasn't been available for years now, the only place you'd find one would be 2nd hand.

I had a quick look on the VIA website, but couldn't see that one archived anywhere, so it's gonna be hard to say what is the fastest CPU it supports. It's probably not worth messing with, as the K6 was available in 500MHz maximum - correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going off memory here!

All the best with the surgery.

A:what processor can I upgrade too?

According to what I see in the Maintenencve & Service guide, replacing the systemboard is the only means of upgrading the processor. The AMD processor is a BGA type and is soldered onto the systemboard  with the chipset. Your notebook is non upgradeable, in terms of the AMD processor.

Hello all.

What is the fastest / most powerful processor that this particular laptop can support? I know that not all processors will be compatible with it.

A:Processor Upgrade

Since all volume manufacturers such as HP, Gateway, Dell, etc. use manufacturer proprietary motherboards you should contact HP to see if the machine will support a faster processor.

I don't know exactly where to post this topic but I think it would best be placed here I'm currently looking to upgrade my processor I'm looking at both the AMD Phenom II x and the AMD Phenom II x T They both take Processor upgrade up W of power and the six core is just more than the four core And I have a few questions I have a GTS Processor upgrade GPU and a W power unit specifics are in my specs below and I'm wondering if my power supply can hold up to the demand on one or both of these processors I have also noticed a W quad core at GHz and a W six core at Ghz and am now wondering if either of those would be a better idea Is the extra worth it to go six cores instead of four cores Processor upgrade After seeing benchmarks I've seen that the four-core is faster than the six core but will the extra two cores actually boost performance in heavy processor-demanding games Thank you for any advice in advance

A:Processor upgrade

If it is a good high end power supply which judging by your specs it's a fair one at least.
I think you will be okay.
The high-mid to high range psu's are often rated under what their actual delivery potential is.
I have a 1000 watt that can kick up to [email protected] if it needs too, so yeah majorly overpowered.

Oh that's something to note too, strong amps are a key component too.

If wattage is the amount amps is the force at which it's applied.
so 500 watts with very small amps is far less useful than a 500 watt with a strong amp rating.

From my searches this is now not listed as current.
Any suggestions which of the current AMD processor range I could use and speed is not the essence.

Also my current RAM is '512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S'

I have 2 slots, one has a faulty retaining clip. Could I use only one slot and fit the Max. RAM the M/board will allow of 4GB such as a single 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 or a 4GB DDR2 PC2-5300. Or must I use both slots.

A:AMD Processor and RAM Upgrade to ???

You didn't list your motherboard model so I can't advise on a better CPU.

Depending on what is wrong with the faulty retaining clip you could use the slot, or not. If it is simply broken so it doesn't clip onto the end of your RAM module, but the RAM module is fully seated in the socket, go ahead and use it as-is.

If it is broken in a way that prevents the RAM module from plugging in properly, well then can't use that slot.

If your motherboard supports dual channel mode it would be better to use two slots.

I have an aging XPS 410 which i have recently upgraded with an ATI 6870 and a bigger PSU rated at 600 watts.
I want to also upgrade the processor but found out that socket 775 on this machine is limited to CPU rated at 1066.
Would a E7600 series work on this?  or am I limited to a Q6600 or E6800?my current cpu is the 6420, would I see a difference?
Thanks much for helping me see what the limits are.

A:XPS 410 processor upgrade

The XPS410/9200 supports 65nm processors, the E7600 is a 45nm processor and is not supported.
You can find a list of compatible processors for the XPS 410 in a post by Chris M HERE
Prior to installing the processor, you need to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version, 2.5.3, because with version 2.5.1, new CPU Support was added.
Note: The Core 2 Quad Q6700, is not listed, but is compatible.

I started out thinking I needed more RAM and now I'm looking at swappin' CPU's. I am currently running a single core AMD Athelon.
There are a bunch of different CPUs that will work with my MOBO. I have an AM2+ socket and here are the processors I have to choose from.

•AMD Phenom II Quad-Core
•AMD Phenom II Triple-Core
•AMD Phenom Quad-Core (A) 9xxx series (AM2+)
•AMD Phenom Triple-Core (T) 8xxx series (AM2+)
•AMD Athlon X4
•AMD Athlon X3
•AMD Athlon X2 (B) (AM2+)

Is there a major difference in the Phenom and Athelon??? The "Black" series???
I went to Newegg and found only 3 different CPUs to choose from. Tiger Direct has about 15. am on a budget so I can't just pick the most expensive and figure I am getting what's best. So...I am looking for input!
I love this place!!!

A:Processor Upgrade ???

There are several good sites that let you compare CPUs,such as Tom's Hardware and Anandtech. What a "good" CPU is depends on what you want to do with it. If you are not doing things that can use multiple cores, they only add cost, not performance. Blacks have the CPU multiplier unlocked, if you want to play with overclocking.

Hey guys,

I have a Compaq laptop: CQ60-202US
Current Specs:

2.10 GHz AMD Sempron SI-42 Processor
4096MB RAM
Running on Windows 7

I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the CPU?? Maybe have an AMD duo core CPU or even a quad core (pretty sure quad is impossible). Any recommendations for a CPU upgrade?

Another question i have is if i get a new duo core CPU wil it be compatible? Because I know dell locks their computers so that you are limited to only a few CPUs....Is that true here?

Thanks guys!!!

A:Processor upgrade?

You potential CPU upgrade would most likely be limited to whatever Compac has shipped in the same basic model machine. As to whether it's worth it to try, that's anybody's guess.

If you tried both processors on two different systems with the same Motherboard, you probably would have a very difficult time detecting which CPU is which... unless you are an ardent gamer... in which case you should be into Intel anyway.
That is a huge reach from $89 to $129... for very little difference. Both are excellent, but not the gaming machines the Intel series are.
You will be happy with the $89 purchase, methinks.

A:Upgrade processor

BGA isn't a socket type - it means ball-grid array.  These CPUs are not replaceable.
The processor in this model is soldered to the system board.  In order to upgrade, you'll need to replace the entire mainboard -- which will come with the new CPU soldered to it.  If you replace the board with one having nVidia graphics, note that you will also need to replace the heatsink assembly (the one for your existing Intel board won't fit the nVidia board) and you may need to replace your power adapter (the Intel GPU requires far less power than the nVidia, so you'll need an upgraded AC adapter).
The boards you're looking for are listed here:

A:Should I upgrade my Processor?

Whether you should upgrade depends on your use. The question arises only when something is not doing what it's supposed to do or if you're looking to do something else.

If the current processor serves your purpose and is running good, then you needn't. Well that's just my opinion.
