I need good, cheap (gaming) mouse [£10-20]

Q: I need good, cheap (gaming) mouse [£10-20]

When I say gaming I mean 5-button. I like those forward-backward buttons and I rely on them heavily. I'd prefer something ergonomic, but if my budget is too low then what the heck. I've had a 10 TeckNet mouse for the past 2 years and it's been okay, just not the greatest position for my fingers, which hurt after prolonged use. I am, of course, right-handed.

Right now my best bet is to get the MSI Interceptor DS100.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Would you buy this for gaming? Cheap but good?

Install fraps... You need at least 60FPS for the games to be enjoyable in my honest opinion. There is a huge difference between it running max settings/res, and it actually being playable.

Others will have to tell you if the price is worth it, as I'm from the UK.

Hi I'm new to this but I've been looking at a cheap gaming PC and I found one for about 500, I need to know if these specs are good to run games like bf3 and skyrim at good settings.

AMD FX-4130 3.8GHz Quad Core Processor

8GB ram

500GB hard drive storage space

Nvidia GTX 650 1GB Graphics card

Asus M5A78L-M LX V2 motherboard

DVD-RW

500w PSU

I can't really pay much for my PC but is this okay for the amount I'm paying and can you please suggest any upgrades that are affordable also what system settings can I run on games like bf3.

Thank you for the help

A:Are these good specs for a cheap gaming PC?

That build will struggle with BF3. This is a better $750 USD build:

So which mouse do you guys/gals use & which would you recommend for gaming/general use ?

A:Recommend a good gaming mouse

Razer, and Logitech are my first two choices for gaming mice, from there it is all about how much money you want to spend. Personally I like mice that give you a switch that toggles the dpi on the fly. That way you can have it super sensitive for gaming and not so sensitive for non-gaming uses.

hi,
I am trying to build a very cheap gaming rig (under $100NZD)
By buying parts off ebay. first off is this possible?
and what do you think of this case...

A:Cheap Gaming rig

Hello Fastboy42,
I think you left a zero off the amount you want to spend.
A cheap gaming rig for 100$, unless PC parts are very cheap in NZ, then the answer is no.
Thats not to say you cant build a PC for 100$, it just wont be any good for gaming.
As for the case, How much is it, and does it come with a power supply ?.

A:Best cheap gaming PC

Your budget is sufficient for what you want. If you have any experience with upgrading a computer, you won't find building it to be that hard. You just gotta get the right parts, one toy have them, they really only plug in one way.
Many here can help you pick out parts that well work together. I'm tied up, so cannot assemble a parts list right now, but am sure somebody will post one before too long. I'd go a nice core i5, 8gb of ram, SSD for OS and games, standard mechanical hard drive for storage, an ati our Nvidia card (whichever you prefer), a solid case (antec, corsair, haf, nzxt), and a power supply around 650watts (corsair, seasonic, pc power and cooling).

Do any of you guys have any hints, tips or can point me in the right direction here?

That seems like a pretty good system for the price, loads of room to upgrade later on. Looks like it only has one fast PCIe slot so no SLI or Crossover. You could also upgrade RAM to 32Gb total but as is it should play 95% of the games out there today.

A:Cheap gaming PC build

I like Rit's build a lot, I would offer this alternative only because the X4 620 Propus does better in gaming and is $99. also games are now multi threaded and making use of more than two cores, and that obviously will be the standard in the future. also when you use the machine for productivity, the additional cores will be of benifit. Here is a benchmark report. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Athlon_II_X4_620/10.html

Well the laptop is faster than the desktop ones cause it has a dual-core cpu, and a faster ram speed, but laptops are mostly not really good for gaming, and it depends which game your going to run.

A:First build, cheap gaming for my son

Some suggestions:
If you are not planning on overclocking the CPU, then you can drop off the Arctic Shield 5 Thermal Compound (which you have listed twice by the way). Thermal compound comes with most CPU's, and it works just fine as long as you are not overclocking too much.
You will need to up the RAM to 8GB (4GB is just meeting the minimum requirements on most newer games). Having 8GB of ram will give you that "Buffer" zone to be able to play all the games for at least a couple years.
You only put in a 120GB SSD drive. You will have that filled with the Operating System and maybe a couple games and not have enough room for anything else. I would suggest for now, dumping the SSD drive and getting at least a 500GB to 1TB 7200rpm hard drive.
Should also get a DVD/Bluray drive.
You will also have to factor in the cost of an Operating System.

Those are my few suggestions, I know other people will be adding in theirs too. Hope this helps you out some.

I've looked at various different types. I'm not too bothered about one that gives me constant power, just one that can kick in and keep my pc on for a few minutes so I'm able to shut down properly.

Anyone have any recommendations? Nothing too expensive.

A:Can anyone recommend a good, cheap UPS?

What is your maximum price limit?

If you have a Maplin store near you, take a look at these (ranging from ?60-?130): Maplin Electronics : UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies)

Hey I have two computers with symptoms of hardware problems, possibly bad RAM.

Swapping RAM around is just confusing me more and getting expensive.

Is there a good (yet cheap) diagnostic program that would tell me if I have bad RAM?

I tried Tucows and got a bunch of memory optimization utilities which are not what I want, but perhaps "Test my Hardware" or "BurnInTest" are good?

Can anyone recommend anything?

Thanks,

I have a P4 3.06Ghz and would like help in adding a sound card. Having a dedicated audio card has its advantages and the most important being the CPU has less work to do. This will help me gain a few of the CPU's power and thus improve gaming somewhat :suspiciou. Don't play games on the PC much any more but when I do its games like CnC, AoE, Team Fortress, Battlefield and so would like to juice the CPU to the max . Don't want to the card to be more than 45 US dollars and only will be using 2 speakers so it can be any.1 I don't care. Any recommendations will be truly appreciated.

Also is there any truth to that when having a dedicated sound card one can hear more and further than compared to an on-board sound card.

A:Cheap Good Audio Card

so less 'cluttered' kitchen more 'defined' sounds

To create true definition with two speakers is not really going to happen (that's not saying that stereo is poohfar) you can buy cheap 'depth of sound' by adding a small SUB woofer http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch_v3.asp?scriteria=5012462 :approve:
I bought a second hand card there are quite a few still out there Creative Sound BlasterLive for the same reason that you stated and coupled with the sub woofer have a better listening pleasure http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_Blaster_Live!. It was never intended to be as good as my Micro HiFi (it has only two speakers by the way) but with the small money spent I believe it is good enough. :slurp:

And the touchpad is most important. I love the ho high end pads like they are made of some sort of glass but hp does not let you launch an is from the bios. Cd drive is not necessary especially if it will cut down on weight. I just want to be able to league on it if possible.

Can anyone suggest any good, cheap or free, RAM testing software?

I want one that is thorough and checks for pattern sensitivity. I don't use a DOS boot disk so it either has to run inside XP, which means it needs to know how to lock the RAM it's testing - VERY RISKY if the guy who wrote it didn't know what he was doing - or it has to be self-bootable.

If it can also test the video RAM - which can be done on any video card that supports DirectX - that would be a plus.

Thanks in advance.

A:Good Sturdy Cheap Router :)

Hello Steve, {another Aussie here.}

Before you spend money on another router that MAY solve your problems ascertain if you are yet another "victim" of Telstra's "wisdom" in installing Pair Gain.
I am !
Please advise if this is so.

{Pair gain is a method of transmitting multiple POTS signals over the twisted pairs traditionally used for a single traditional subscriber line in telephone systems. Pair gain has the effect of creating additional subscriber lines. This is typically used as an expedient way to solve subscriber line shortage problems by using existing wiring, instead of installing new wires from the central office to the customer premises.}

There are a lot of options you can choose but to narrow it down you may consider a Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-UP4 or an ASRock FM2A88X Extreme6+ as they both support Crossfire and SLI and both has USB 3.0 Headers.

Hi, and welcome to seven forums.

It is very hard to get Mac OS X running on a Windows machine. VMware and all that stuff is for people with a lot of computer experience.

In your search of a good laptop; go have a look at the Compaq brand by HP. They are quite cheap, but very reliable.

And for your Final Cut Pro alternative: Avid | Home --> Pinnacle or Sony Vegas Pro.

Hi,
Gimp is free, legal OpenSource.
This from their website:
"GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.

GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.

GIMP is written and developed under X11 on UNIX platforms. But basically the same code also runs on MS Windows and Mac OS X.

Of course all choices will be yours. I have never heard of a $50.00 gaming motherboard. The first tool you will need is knowledge. Some web sites that can help. These sites will list many motherboards and the information you need to choose one. Many of the subject motherboards are costly. Your not their to choose between a $200.00 or a $300.00 motherboard but to gather knowledge so you can choose between a $50.00 or $75.00 motherboard. Motherboard selection takes a lot of homework on your part. It took me more time to choose a motherboard than all the other parts in my computer put together.

I'm building my dad a computer. I use my own computer for gaming mostly so I don't know a whole lot about openGL cards or even if my dad would need one. I'd like to spend from 100-300 bucks. cheaper being better. I guess the most important thing is just that I don't bottle neck this thing. He's retired and these are basically the hobbies he plans to use his computer for: poser v.4.0, Bryce v.4.0, and Photoshop v. 5.0, some form/capacity of autocad, and making home dvds.

so far I've got:
2200XP
1 gig of PC3200
160 Gb HD
AU13 FIC mb

Also I have a spare ATI 128 Mb 8500le I could throw in... but I wonder if it would do him any good....

so far I've just been looking around Tom's hardware and had one friend recommend "matrox" cards. but more suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!

I recently had my headphones short out in one ear and need new ones but I don't know what ones to get cause I don't want to keep having the same problem. So recommendations would be nice. I just want good sound quality with a mic on it. Preferably something like the ones I had (see link) but I heard those always short out after a year or two so I don't really want to deal with the problem in the future.

$50 is as high as I'd like to go, I don't know if that too low to find good quality headsets though.

Grab a Razer barracuda HP-1 from ebay for a low low price,, 80ish maybe but their killer 5.1 headset, with outputs to your sound cards rear and front and center and sub.. gl

I want to buy one that has a good video card installed already because if I open up the case to put a better one in it it will void the warranty

any thoughts are welcome

Thanks Ryan

Give us some more ideas, what do you want to do on it. Which OS do you want to install? What processor, how much memory, size harddisk. Wireless capability? etc.
IBM do Thinkpads with Linux pre-installed. Linux is easy on graphics requirements.

I was thinking of building a PC from scratch and I know all of the parts I need but I have no idea what specific parts I want. I want the parts to be cheap but reliable as this will be more of a hobby and an experience for me than something I'll use on a day to day basis. I want it to be a general use PC. For light gaming, web surfing and other common things.

Hate to have to downgrade but I can't afford the 300 down and the 50 a month they want to high speed out here..any good alternative..guess I have to go back to dial up..but heard the major cheap ones would slow down my computer..Anybody out there got a good fast dial up? Got to be cheaper than broadband or DSL..so I guess price isn't the issue..Speed and reliability would be..with no side effects.

A:Losing my cheap broadband...any good dialups

Hi and welcome to TSF

Dial up connections always go at 56 Kb Per Second ;hardly ever reach that top speed. I really don't recommend dial-up connections as they take up your phone line and internet at the same time. I can not recommend you anything but I would strive to find the cheapest DSL you can get. Also if you must use dial up make sure NOT to install AOL as the programming is horrible and I have actually experienced it. NEVER install AOL. (my highest recommendation)

I want to buy one from www.ebay.com ( I have no alternative to PayPal). One that has shipping to UAE

Hi all

I used to use SKYPE it before it became rediculous with points / credits and the whole bonkers corporate greed and comercialisation stuff.

Is there a decent cheap VOIP service which also allows calls to regular phones and allows reception of calls also from normal phones including mobiles that doesn't cost nearly as much as I can get from using a service provider like SKY for telephone / internet / TV service.

I would like to plug in a USB phone into the W7 system.

Is VOIP now dead as people go for "Social networking" sites more and more.

I HATE TWITTER -- if I'm calling someone I want to SPEAK not make a load of idiotic comments restricted to so few characters that it makes George Orwell's "Newspeak" (his book titled 1984) seem like an orator's paradise that Winston Churchill would have revelled inusing.

Disk drives are finally so cheap that it is easily affordable to keep
two drives that are constantly mirroring each other but I havent
looked into it in 5 or 6 years and I have not seen anyone making a fuss
over any mirroring products.
Can anyone make a recommendation for Win-XP mirroring as I am
not likely to upgrade from it for at least ten years but I would consider
a new motherboard to use the latest SATA drive technology if I could
somehow migrate my XP software off my current hard drive..
Scott

A:good (simple, cheap and works) disk mirroring ?

Loads of choice depending what processor you have.
But easier than changing motherboard, would be just to insert a PCI Sata card, making sure it has Raid.
Then you could add a second drive, try to keep it as similar as possible to the existing one, make, size, etc, and use the Raid.
If your existing hard drive is IDE though, you could add two Satas, and use them for data. Reducing your existing drive to a System drive only.
You can also get IDE Raid, but ages since I saw a card for that.

You know what they say about good, fast and cheap. You can have only two; take your choice.

I want an extended capacity battery for a Sony Vaio VGN-NR120E laptop -- good and cheap. I'm finding batteries in the range of 4400- to 5200mAh, which is the factory stock range; but, I want one in the range of 7800- to 8800mAh. I've about given up on 8800 because every time I find one and check out the company, I find some really nightmarish war stories about the company and their products. I'm beginning to think 8800 is a pipe dream/scam and there is really no such thing.

So now I'm down to 7800, hoping to find a reputable company/brand for $100 or less. I'll go more if I have to.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've spent enough hours on this that I am now asking for help.

Optical media is an older technology, and it's very inexpensive to make DVD burners nowadays. The Optiarc one I bought was only 22 dollars, that was in 2008, it still works great so you should be fine.

A:Looking for a good cheap digital note taking and email tablet

There will be obvious slow down if you try to multitask a 2gb ram machine too much. But if you don't wanna shell out too much then that should work on a consistent basis with minor hiccups here and there. I don't own that device but I have a windows 10 tablet with also just 2gb of ram. I'm an IT student and a game developer and I can actually run my game engine when I don't wanna bother opening my work machine with any combinations of few programs open like words, groove, onenote or a browser just fine.
For just pdf viewing and note taking, it will be more than enough that I even suggest looking a much cheaper win 10 tablet and just pick up a stylus individually unless you're all in with the metal body and usb c which really adds quite a lot on the price of that tablet. Plastic is still much better if you're holding the tablet all the time and is always on the move because it is less slippery.

My Logitech M315 still works great, but the little round glider pads came off, so it was "running" a bit rough. You can buy replacement pads, but the cost is prohibitive for a lower priced model such as the M315. However, I've found a neat & sweet fix: shiny cellophane tape. It works like a charm. The mouse now glides like new. Hope this low-tech tip will come in handy for my fellow forum mates.

A:Cheap fix for a nagging mouse problem...

If I might add to your post spencer1..
Double sided tape w/out the protective layer removed also works great. Verrry slick unless of course you happen to peel away the protective layer, then you're even worse off than when you started.

I was wondering is 5ms response time good enough for FPS Gaming like COD: Black Ops, BFBC2 etc etc etc?I have been ordered this Asus monitor.
Or do you really need the 2ms version of Monitors? Is the performance worth the extra cost
Coz It costs a bomb here in my country to get a 2ms monitor compared to 5ms (both same screen size, Full HD resolution).
I wouldn't mind if the difference is too little to actually bothers me.

A:Is 5ms good enough for Gaming?

2ms is better, but 5ms is plenty fast enough.
That's the response rate on mine and I don't see any video problems.

Hey everyone,

I need as many opinions as possible on a budget gaming computer that doesn't need to be ultra fast. I am thinking of

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 3.00GHz (or something close to that)
RAM: 4GB Corsair 800MHz DDR2
GPU: Nvidia 9800GTX or GT depending on how much money I have for it.

I am open to any sujestions to change any Item. I will be using windows xp pro.

Is this PC I'm planning on buying a good deal? And has anyone had any good/bad experiences with ACER products? Thanks for any input. Oh and one last thing. Is it possible to get a case that can cool the video card better? I hear that the 9800 GT cards get really hot while running games.

Since it sounds like you want a different case anyway, I'd just go ahead and build my own, if I were you. You'll save money and be able to choose exactly what components you want.
