Unable to set BIOS user password

Q: Unable to set BIOS user password

I?ve never had to set the BIOS password, but the kids are growing up and I need to lock access to my PC.

My Bios has two Password Options: Supervisor and User.

The Supervisor password was accepted, and before I attempt to change the BIOS settings, the Supervisor password is asked for.

Then I set the user password.

However, when I boot up the PC, I am not asked for any password and windows loads as usual.

What am I missing?

The BIOS is Award Software International, Inc. F4 HI 07/03/2007

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to set BIOS user password

Do you have the option mentioned below?

Setting a BIOS Password

...
Now you'll want to set your system to ask for that password every time it boots, so select the BIOS FEATURES SETUP option, to see a menu something like this:

Fairly obviously, it's the Password Check option we're interested in, so select it and change the setting to ALWAYS.

I have Windows 7 Professional version installed. After it boots up and it goes to Login Screen. I click on user name icon and it tries to look for the password and it comes back to same USDER ID Icon. It goes in a loop.

I tried to book in SAFE mode and same thing happens.
I tried to do SAFE Mode in Command network. It does not go to Command prompt. Goes back to same login screen.
It is running on my Leonovo laptop.

If you don't have the password, you'll need to call Dell support.  Be prepared with your ownership details and if the system warranty has expired, with a credit card to pay for the support call.

A:still unable to get password FOR PHOENIX BIOS

Welcome to techspot...

Look in your mainboard manual for instructions on how to "clear cmos" or similar. Basically, it's a little jumper on the mainboard that erases the BIOS settings (which is where the password is stored).

Once you've done that, enter the bious, and load failsafe defaults if you don't know how to set it up as you'd otherwise want it, and proceed to only change the things you understand, or that are related to any problem you are having (and it helps if you understand those!)

Lastly, just a bit of kind advice, but please don't continue to post all in caps (uppercase). Apart from looking untidy, many consider it to be equivelant to shouting, and so it's considered impolite (just simple nettiquette).

My grandmother was recently hacked and she changed all her passwords herself (yay!). However she did not write down her new local user account password for her laptop.

I tried downloading OPHCrack, I burned it as an ISO file and put it on a DVD-R(only thing I had on hand) and i changed the boot order on her BIOS menu to had the DVD drive as the first priority. It does not run....I hear the disk drive moving, or spinning but the program does not run. Are there any other options or do I have to do a complete system restore to bypass this? Also if that is what I have to do how do I do that without being in her control panel?

A:Need the reset for password on Latitude C400, bios revision A06, original password.?

You'll need to call Dell with verification of ownership -- it may not be worth it though, since the call will cost about $60, which is probably about six times more than the entire system is worth.
The other option is to replace the mainboard - which is probably well under $60.

It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

As far as I know you cannot remove the BIOS password if you don?t know the old BIOS password.
In such case just the Toshiba ASP could help you? just the Toshiba ASP technician could remove the unknown BIOS password

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
I would really appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

I updated the bios after I had notified from Toshiba about the Bios v3.50. The process was done by the Toshiba Utility software, and after the reboot there is "Password =" on a blank screen and it not recognise my BIOS password, writing "Not certified".

I have also tried the HDD password but no luck.

What can I do now?

A:Satellite Z30-A-12R BIOS password not recognised after BIOS upgrade

Hi

Before trying to update the BIOS, all passwords should be removed!
BIOS password can be removed by authorized service provider available in your country.

But the unknown HDD password cannot be removed anymore.
In such case the HDD isn?t accessible and cannot be used.

Sorry mate but in my opinion you have only one chance to get the BIOS password removed; you need the ASP assistance.

This sounds more like a BIOS = hardware issue. Since you have been inside the case it is possible something got nudged loose. Re-seat your memory and video card if it is an add-on.

The computer wont start.   After pressing "ON" one can hear a vibration sound, it turns on an orange LED.   Stays black for two  minutes; then screen does light to a dim night-blue color.     This is for a Split x2 13-g110dx (windows 10 64bit). Already tried:  hard reset and going to BIOS (Windows button + "B"). Also tried booting from  a USB drive.   It did not work (see screen below). Any suggestion(s) of how it can still be revived ("do it myself")? Thank you.                                       Screen message

A:Bios password/Administrative password issue

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and thecode is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility Replace the BIOS chiphttp://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-... Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

I was given a computer to work on and it turns out that her now ex-husband locked it, both the hard drive and the Bios. It is a Dell laptop. She was concerned about what was on the hard drive but I am almost 100% sure there's no way to unlock it???
As for the Bios, my desktop can be bypassed by either taking out the battery or resetting the CMOS jumper. On her laptop I took the battery out but it was still locked. She was hoping I could buy a different hard drive and the computer still be usable.

Any suggestions?

I'm afraid to tell you, but for this, you have to contact local ASP.
Because it is not that easy or possible the way you would do this on deskopt PCs.

This is why you have to take your machine to ASP. The guys there can remove the password.

Humble apologies if question asked/answered before.

Running Win 7 64bit all updates etc, anyway have never used passwords (sole user ), so booted up computer this morning and woila there it was, wanting "user name" & "Password", never been set up for one so how can I input something that wasn't set up, a bloody nuisance, that's why I love computers, just when you get complacent, it throws a spanner in the works, your thoughts as always most appreciated.

A:Sole user never had a User Name or Password!

Hello Peter,

Since it's wanting you to enter both your user name and password instead of just password, then you might see if using step 2 and 8 in Option One of the tutorial below may help with this. Log On with User Name and Password
Afterwards, if it's still not automatically logging into your account at startup, then the tutorial below can sort that for you. Since you do not have a password, you would just leave the password fields empty. Log On Automatically at Startup
Hope this helps.

The title sums up my problem pretty well. I used to have a problem with switching user, my computer didn't respond after clicking 'switch user.'
I searched for a thread about that problem on this site and solved it instantly.
However, after switching user, the computer now returns back to the Windows XP main log-on screen as it's supposed to, but when trying to log onto a different user, the computer almost refreshes the screen and comes straight back to the log-on screen. The only user that has access to the computer at this point is the user that switched user originally. Any ideas on how this could be fixed?

Hello World.

I'm running a local printer on my Vista System which I want to share over my local network.

If I connect from a Windows XP System to Vista with the Windows Explorer I'm allways asked to enter my user name and password.
If I do so I can connect to the printer over the network.
If I don't enter the user name and password I'm naturally refused to access the printer.

So the question is: How can I give the Windows XP System permanent access to the Vista system and its printer without entering the user name and password manually every time?

I'm sure there is a simple answer to this problem.
Thanks for your help!

The two computers have entirely disjoint accounts databases, so naturally incoming access attempts must first be made to provide the credentials of one of the known (local) accounts.

The "simple" answer is to create accounts with identical username/password combinations on both machines. That way the incoming request always appears to match a known local account.

Last night I went into the User/Password in the control panel. I was told that by adding a new user that the wireless internet that was just installed would work. This is using windows 2000. The computer is not finding the network. But I went in and set up a new user, but accidently removed the user name I was under, and it removed all my files, or will not let me access them anymore. And when I try to get back into the User/Password area it says I am not authorized and is asking for an administrator password. Is there a way to undo this so I can access these files. From what I can tell, accomplishing this task without major hardware tinkering is next to impossible. However, here are some tips from around the web.

To access the hard drive you may need to take ownership of it.
Log into your PC w/ Admin Priviledges
Find the folder/hard drive you wish to access
Right Click > Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner Tab
Highlight Administrator
Check Replace owner on...
OK, wait.

She asked me and she I tryed to get into the admins account, that was blocked too. Seems like my cousin changed the password for the admins account and forget that too.

So now we're stuck with this laptop and we can't even get into it. I tried that NT pw & reg thing and put the iso on a cd and try to go through that but it just doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this.

And no we have no recovery disk of anysort if that means anything.

Are you sure you used the NT password tool correctly? It has worked for almost everyone else. Try it for both accounts, sometimes it takes several attemps, and under Vista you must remove the password, NOT change it. Would you like my instruction set?

'Ello,

I've recently started dualbooting with Vista and Windows 7. Everything is working great, except for one thing. My version of windows 7 seems to have a password set already by default for the administrator account. And I can't seem to find out what it is.

I've tried the usual stuff, like admin, default etc. None of them seem to work. Anyone that could help me out here? I kinda need to know what it is so I can change it to a password of my own.

So to sum it up, the Administrator account on my Windows 7 has a password installed, which I can't find. If anyone could help me with this, I'd be really thankfull.

Kind regards,

You can find the utility [Mod Edit: link removed] very useful. Once run you can see the accounts on your computer and reset thier passwords. You need a jump drive, floppy disk or a cd to boot from.

A:User Name and Password

Windows 7 is blocking the XP machine until an account and password is used.

One will find that if ALL machines have an account and password that are the same, this problem will go away most of the time.

This common account does NOT need to be the current active one, but it helps to be on all machines. I use a common "Back door" account on all of my machines and this is heavily passworded and does the job.

This back door is an admin account that I would used if my prime admin account get clobbered.

Need my old laptop because it has fire-wire connector. It has a Vista partition and an Ubuntu one.
I created a Ubuntu partition and have been playing with that, but haven't been on the Vista partition for several months.

Is there any way to get a hint or reset it? I pitched the documentation and disks when I got my new laptop because I planned to just wipe it and run ubuntu. I have a stick with a Userkey.psw but I think it's for the new latop since it;\'s not working for the old PC.

Yea, I know know sounds like "my dog ate my homework."

Hi,

Why would Bad User Name and/or Password Error keep showing up at startup? I've checked every user name and pass word I can think of that I have to see if they are current and I still get this error all the time. Any ideas? And how to correct this? Thank you.

A:Dad User Name Or Password - Error

Have you ever deleted a user in the start button-->control panel-->user groups?Sometimes it helps to show hidden files. Check show hidden files & uncheck hide system files. Then navigate to My Computer C:\ (making sure to show the contents of this drive on the left) to the documents & settings and see which users have folders there and whats in 'em. Be slow to delete, but you can copy files if you want. See if Dad has a folder. Also, does it do it when you start inSafe Mode by tapping F8 repeatedly at a reboot. Start when the screen goes black and keep it up until the screen appears where you can use the up arrow to choose safe mode. Hit enter. Hit enter. Do more than one user name appear at the slightly modified welcome screen? In fact what do you see at a normal boot, the welcome screen with a user name? There is a way to see that screen without any user name & windows simply continues to the desktop after a couple seconds of showing it.

I forgot my user account log-on password. How can I get my computer to boot into my operating system? I am running Windows XP Home Edition on an older HP Vectra VL. Is there a work around for this? What would happen if I disconnected the power for several days, would this wipe out the memory of the User Account?

A:I Forgot my User Log-On Password

If you disconnect the power for several days, your computer will be the same as the password is encrypted and stored for windows.

You can reset it however

For example, by using google and searching for "offline nt password"
the return is a variety of "XP Hacks" out there to allow you to reset your password. **Cant supply you with the link because its too close to violation of rules on this forum, thats probably all the help your going to get here.....

I have a simple question. How to I grant one standard user the right to change another standard user's password in windows 7 professional? Thanks.

A:One User Change Another's Password

Hi CyberSchoolTeacher :0To my knowledge, this isn't possible. You need to give that user Admin Rights in order for it to be able to change another's user password. And this is locally, on the same system, not on a domain.

I have four computer networked all using Win 7 Pro or Ultimate. I set up the network as prompted and set th user name and password. All computers are new to newer Dell running 64bit. Went to setup my HPMediaSmart 6TB Server and everything just fine. After all setup everything worked fiine until I wated to axcess the server. A Windows Security window opens requesting Network Password and User Name to connect to the HP Server. Well nothing I input does any good ALL my entries are rejected. This is a total f.. k up as I know what I used for the main network and what I used for the HP Server but neither work. I have tried about everything I can think of and am still locked out. All else fails compltet rest and reboot but just wondering if same problem someone else might have seen for answer. Thank you.

A:Win 7 user name and password for network

Hi TerSans & welcome to SF

You may just need to check the permissions that are set on the server.
I had exactly the same thing happen to me trying to connect to an XP machine. The username & password i supplied was correct but it kept rejecting them because I hadn't got permission from XP to access it.
I suggest looking at the ACL of your server drive, adding NETWORK and assigning the appropriate permissions.

I hope this helps somewhat.

I had to reinstall my whole system again just because I want to the user accounts and changed the way users sign off without having a password. So I f12ed it and set passwords for the supervisor and owner ( I think)! I know what they are when I need them.
The problem is I need it all the time. I now have to use a password every time I start my computer! I want to know how to get into f12 and take it off. I couldn't figure out how to do that. Now I have a new pest. It's really annoying with all the rebooting involved in redownloading programs.
I know you'll help me. I was okay for awhile!
Thanks a lot,
Diane Mitchell

A:I set a user password on winxp. I want it gone!

Are you having problems getting back into BIOS setup? The passwords you have set should allow you access and then you can change the settings so that none is needed. If you needed to press F12 to get in before, you probably need to do the same again only right after entering the password.

I am a beginner with windows 10.
When I log in I now get 'incorrect user name and password' and I see I have now got two User Accounts in my own name. How do I get rid of the wrong one? (I'm sure this has been asked many times but I couldn't find it in FAQs). Since it appeared my Pc is very slow to come to life - I have time to make a cup of tea before the desktop appears.

A:'incorrect user name and password'

Hello Barb, and welcome to Ten Forums.

This usually happens if you have Windows set to sign in to your account automatically at startup using netplwiz, and then changed your password, user name, or computer name afterwards.

Setting up netplwiz to update it will usually sort this for you.

have a system here that I'm locked out of due to an unknown password. I've tried all the safe modes available but everything wants a password for the user account. I also attempted an image restore but that also wanted a password. There appears to only be one user account on the system & that is the one that has the unknown pass. I'm pretty much locked out of the system as nothing goes beyond the password request. I've also tried [removed by mod] Live CD but it was unable to retrieve the password. Does anyone know of a good free password recovery or reset tool that will allow me to access the system?

XP Pro, not networked, only one actual user in home/home office situation, although there are a couple of unused accounts on the machine.

I am logged as the user with administrator priviliges and want to remove the password from the account. Open Control Panel-User Accounts, select user, click remove password.

Windows asks for current password, I type the current password, Windows replies:

"Windows cannot remove the password. Password and/or account policies require the account to have a password."

I go to Admin Tools- Local Security Settings-Account Policy-Password Policy and set the minimum password length to 0. This is supposed to allow blank (no) password.

Still can not remove password.

Restart Windows. Try again. Same message.

Is there another setting somewhere I am missing?

Hi

Hope someone can help me. I have some scheduled items not working properly due to an incorrect password. On trying to change the password in the user accounts - administrator - this is also incorrect. I am typing in the right password but it doesn't like it. Anyone any idea how to find or remove the stored password for adminstrator without knowing what the password is???

Thanks

A:User accounts Password

First..Try just hitting enter and ignoring and prompt to type in a password. The password is blank by default on most comuters. If that doesn't work, try this.

hello all,

I'm a new member here. so happy to find this forum coz I (newbie) have problems with my pc.
during these couple weeks, my trial version of Mcafee anti virus detected a "Malware" which can't be cleaned/deleted/quarrantine, but in some ways, I had this file "winlog.exe" deleted. bad things happen : my pc freeze more often whenever it's doing more than one task, & the worst is it keeps telling me I typed in a wrong password/user name which I'm sure it's right, when trying to change my password (i.e. almost expired).
anybody help please. Thanks alot!

I was trying to watch a streaming video on my laptop and one of those fake spyware things popped up so I immediatley shut my computer down. But now when I log on no matter if I'm in safe mode or not my computer takes me to this screen that looks like my login but it only lists Other User. When I click on that it asks me for Username and password. No matter what I type in it tells me the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. To be clear there was no password on my computer before so I didn't forget it and there is an ease of access button but it doesn't work, neither does control alt delete.
