First time using multiple monitors

Q: First time using multiple monitors

I m just dipping a toe into multi-monitor use and have some questions I using monitors time multiple First have a inch and a inch monitor at the moment have another and to use if need be later I have a ATI card I have both monitors plugged into the video card I ve noticed when I extend the desktop to both screens I have some quot flickering quot on the second inch monitor Almost like its trying to adjust itself to something automatically It only flickers when I scroll the mouse wheel up and down First time using multiple monitors a page or move a window around etc Seems to happen when one screen has a browser at full screen and something might be leaking over to the other screen not sure if I can explain it better than that When I create an eyefinity group even though the monitors are different I see no flickering at all all is well Just wondering if this is some setting on the smaller monitor I need to look into Its a Dell FPV ALSO I am assuming this videocard with two monitors on it may take a performance hit if I use it while gaming For example have the inch be the gamer monitor and have the inch showing the desktop with a browser window or teamspeak on it Also I m looking through my parts here and I have some older video cards I may look into adding one just for the second monitor on the desktop Thoughts nbsp

Preferred Solution: First time using multiple monitors

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

im no expert but it could be your refresh rate on the second monitor is different from the first so that could be it,

1.go to control panel under appearance and personalization click adjust screen resolution

2.click the monitor you want to change

3.click advanced setting and monitor tab and change the refresh rate

and your gaming fps should not go down through the multi display set up unless your doing something graphic/cpu demanding task

I have two monitors. Some of my programs can take the whole screen, covering up everything including the task bar. In W7, I just used the MS clock gadget which I moved to the second screen so I could always see the time. Now in W8.1 Update, I can see all the apps that I've pined to the active task bar, but I don't see the system tray with the time to the right. Doesn't have to be the task bar, of course -- could be a floating clock in the upper right or left or anywhere you like. Any one know of a way?

A:Display time on multiple monitors?

Hello Greenspring,

If you like, you could use OPTION THREE below to drag the taskbar w/clock to any screen you want to see it on instead.

I have attached a second monitor to my laptop which runs Windows 7, however, I need to set different resolutions for different monitors, because the display does not fit to fill the screen on both monitors.

It is also noted that the display is replicated, and I would like to have the effect of having different desktops e.g. being able to use different applications such as debugging code on one monitor on an IDE such as Visual Studio, and, viewing the browser on the other monitor.

Currently it does not seem possible since the behavior seems to be that the same resolution is replicated on both monitors.

Are more than two monitors supported?

A:Working with multiple monitors does not allow multiple desktops

Set it to extended mode instead of duplicate, then you can use both independently.

Open up your display properties and under Settings where it shows two monitors grab one and move it to the other side. Should be as simple as that.

I have two monitors on my box, my main is a 19" LCD, the 2nd is a 17" CRT monitor, I use UltraMon as my software for my monitors. From time to time my 2nd monitor spazzes out and flickers between different resolutions when I visit certain websites. I'm wondering, do I have the refresh rate too high or low or is there some option I should mess with to make it NOT do that? Or can anyone give me any ideas on how to fix this plz? Thank you!!

Greetings all!
I have the following issue I need assistance in resolving.
I currently have my Syncmaster 2033 as my primary viewing screen.
I'm able to use a Sharp Aquos independantly to view Hi def, provided I have the syncmaster disconnected! That is I cannot have both connected, the syncmaster connect6ed via dvi connection and the Aquos connected by HDMI connection.
When I start my system the syncmaster displays the windows logo but then goes dark and the Aquos lights up and is the main view screen while the sysncmaster is dark.
So how can I use multiple monitors?
My specs are updated on the bottom left and I have downloaded the latest ATI catalyst drivers.

Regards,
Adrian

The monitor have a VGA connection? If so try it with that instead of the DVI connection. Problem is as I understand it is that both the DVI and HDMI connections can't be used at the same time. Don't remember where I saw it but has something to do with using two digital connections at the same time (and how the RAMDAC's handle it), but works fine with the VGA and HDMI.

Ok i have two monitors and i was wondering how do i make both work as if they were one large monitor

A:How do i set up multiple monitors?

You have to have a graphics card which has two outputs compatible with both monitors. Just take a look at the connectors on the monitors. To see If you have DVI or VGA
Then look behind your computer to see if you have two outputs that match up. If so, great! you can configure the settings by right clicking on the desktop and going to the graphics card configuration window. If your graphics card doesn't have the supported output you would need a new one before you could have dual monitors.

is there a software solution to be able to switch between the 2, perhaps by disabling something?

thanks.

Hi jimlau,

You should be able to right click on the Desktop and from there navigate to Screen Resolution. Once in the Screen Resolution menu, you can chose how Windows treats the second monitor / TV.

I am sorry but your post is a little vague / confusing too me. What exactly are you trying to do with them?

Hi all

First post ever to a computer forum

I have a new computer and I am planning to output to on or more of three monitors including a 42 inch TV

I have an ATI 5770 GPU

The output will be identical on the different displays

Stupid question - does the output to multiple monitors slow the performance? If so it there a way to activate only the monitor or monitors that I will be using?

Thanks

Will

Welcome to SevenForums! You made the right decision posting here.

If you have a compatible video card, you will have no trouble using dual monitors. Performance impact will be slight, unnoticeable unless you are trying to game that way.

Yes, you can disable any monitors you do not use. Right-click on the desktop, and click Screen Resolution. YOu can go from there.

Hope this helps,

Hi, I didn't know where this topic would be appropriate so I put it in the XP one.

I'm trying to set up multiple monitors using a CRT TV that has an s-video hook up. My video card has a TV-out and I have the proper cord to connect the 2 (the cord actually splits into an s-video and composite video). When it's all hooked up and I go into the display settings and try to enable or activate the second monitor, it just flickers for a second or two then stops and nothing has changed.

I have set this up in the past but forgot how I did it. I'm not completely sure but the last time I had it set up, I might have had my old Radeon 9000 pro instead of my x1600 pro that I have now. Thanks in advance for any help.

Having trouble keeping a secondary monitor 'alive' after it comes on, then dies when Windows starts up.
Have done a trouble shoot but cannot access a number of the categories, supposedly in Control Panel, which come up in the troubleshooter. ie: the double screen window doesn't show under 'Display' options.
The machine I'm having this problem with is using Windows XP Home edition.
This machine I'm using right now has Windows XP Professional edition and this dialog window shows under 'Display'.
[Whether it will actually support a second monitor or not, I'm not sure! Haven't tried this one yet.]

Further info - the problem m/c does have a dual video card, and the secondary monitor works initially, but as soon as the Welcome screen comes on, it dies. Maddening!

Any one have any ideas?

A:Multiple Monitors

Well as far as I know I don;t think there is any limit to how many monitors windows can support or at least if therei s its probably some very high number. I remember seeing people using Many MANY monitors for a Flight Simulator game.

Anyways if you do plan on getting one of these higher end video cards with multiple video outputs Make sure your powersupply can handle the extra load of these higher end video cards. Sure the pci cards your currently using may not use much power but these new ones are PCI-Express and are higher end gaming type video cards (from what I remember) and usually require more power and proper cooling.

Hi 73fd and welcome to TSF !

I don't think you'll be able to use both your onboard video and your AGP video card at the same time. That setup can be done with a PCI(-E) video card, and only with some motherboards, but I think the AGP card automatically disables the onboard video when you plug it in.

I'll google a bit and I'll tell you if I'm wrong.

Welcome to TSG,

I've edited your title to give it a useful title.

You should look in to an AMD Radeon Eyefinity card or a Matrox card with 5 or more outputs.

Here's some examples:
http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/radeon-hd-7870-eyefinity-6.html?page=6
http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/5870_Eyefinity_66S2GD5/
http://www.sapphirepgs.com/featurepage.asp?IDno=18&lang=eng
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/graphics_cards/m_series/m9188pciex16/?productTabs=1

You can get DisplayPort to any type of connector to connect each of the 5 monitors.
You can also use multiple cards, you could use an existing card and add a second card to get more monitors.

I have a K3 series desktop. It only has one VGA port which I use for the main monitor. I wanted to add another one so I bought a VGA adaptor. When I installed a new monitor I got a screen and I could move sessions to it but the desktop did not recognize the new monitor. I couldn't change the resolution which was so low the text was very big and I couldn't use it that way. Has anyone else had this problem? I used an adaptor that I bought at Best Buy. They told me that the setting needed to be adjusted. I called  Intel and they said that they could not help because it might be a custom setting for Lenovo.  Lenovo support said they do not help with this system any longer. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?Thank youSandra

A:multiple monitors

A lot of computers support triple monitors these days, Intel integrated graphics, AMD graphics, NVidia graphics cards all support 3 or more monitors as long as the model you choose has three or more outputs. You may need more "junk" to connect each monitor such as a DisplayPort adapter since most system use a DisplayPort adapter for teh third monitor though. Windows itself has no issues with multiple monitors.

Everything seems fine, the second monitor has the message that the display adapter was initialized successfully. But under Display Properties -> Settings there is only one monitor picture shown.
Under the System properties the Display adapter tells me that the area of memory normally used by this device is beeing used by another program or device. I already tried the advice under C:\windows\Display.txt.

My question is: How do I set my laptop to keep the settings/layout without it changing whenever I power off the laptop and monitors?

If I power on my laptop without one of my monitors powered on, all the settings are changed. I would like to keep it as is when I set everything up.

My setup is like this: My laptop's monitor is the main monitor. I have two other monitors on either side of my laptop. The one on the left is through VGA and the one on the right is through HDMI. I extended my display to the left. I mirror my laptop's image on the monitor to the right (HDMI).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Alright, I know that you can have multiple monitors hooked up (assuming your vid card can support it), I'm wondering if it's possible to have 2 monitors, both having different things on each screen..

For example, Let's say I'm working a webpage design. I have 2 monitors hooked up, and I want 1 monitor to have the html page open, and the other monitor to have the notepad open. I then want to save the notepad file, and then refresh the html page (on the other monitor)

Another example could include playing 2 games at once on different monitors.. Like City of Heroes on one monitor and Warcraft III on the other.

Is this at all possible with 1 tower? Or is this like a 2 computer sort of deal..

Thanks!

A:Multiple Monitors..?

The first scenerio is quite possibly, since you do not need to clone one display to the other. You can set it up as an extension of the first, monitor and have whatever you like on it or set it up as a seperate screen.

The second senerio would not work, since it would stress every component in the entire computer as it would need to render two highly intensive environments with complex graphics and sounds with only one set of hardware to do so and to control it.

Hello. I am new here.

Have a question regarding using multiple monitors for display purposes, while using my laptop & its monitor to perform other app's.

Example: I photograph sporting events. I download my compact flash to my pc. I then do a quick batch enhancement on the photo's I just downloaded. Then I would like to name folders to upload to viewing station monitors. I would like to be able to use multiple monitors for displaying my photographs, at the same time still being able to use the pc for additional downloads and batch enhancements before uploading to additional folders for the viewing station monitors.

I have just purchased an ACER 1916W monitor. I am running Windows XP, and have downloaded all the appropriate drivers for the monitor.I am trying to set up multiple monitors. I can set up my monitors to where I can drag from on monitor to the other. Though I want have the ACER monitor display to display exactly what I am seeing on my laptop display. That way I can just tuck my laptop up under the monitor shelf, and use another keyboard so I will have desk space. I have spent at least a day trying to work it myself and trying to talk to a tech from acer, but no luck. Also I was reading somthing about a cloned display, and it look like you may need some additional software. Though I am unsure. well anyhelp would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all,

I am wondering if there is a reasonably simple and cheap way to run multiple monitors off a single computer.

What I want to do is have the computer with a monitor that is being used by the person using the computer, and then have several monitors showing different slideshows, but running off the same computer.

Thanks,

Hello,
I am not very good at computers. I am trying to hook up a second monitor to my desktop. I used a VGA splitter and now I get the same picture on both screens. I want to extend it so I can use different windows between the two screens. Please advise. I suspect that I have to buy something, but I don't know what.

My computer is a :
Dell Dimension E310

My display adapter is :
Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family

What else do you need to know? And you might have to tell me how to find it because all I know how to do is go to control panel and click display.

Thanks,

I am purchasing a MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G GPU, and I think it has capablilities for 4 monitors to be displayed as a single desktop. If this is true, what cables should I get, and any ideas for decent cheap monitors? My plan is to have three monitors side by side as a single entity, and a fourth on the side as a reference screen (I would prefer this one to be rather small, like 6-8 inch)

When I use the laptop at home I don't have an extra monitor but if I open up programs such as Notepad or Adobe Photoshop, the windows are nowhere to be seen.........as they are still on the other monitor!! Is there any way to move them without being able to see them?

Any ideas?

Hi Guys,

Right... I currently have a computer with two monitors, running off of one graphics card, one VGA output, one DVI.

I want to also hook up my TV (so I can watch films directly from my PC).

My TV has a VGA connection, and I have a 25m male-male extension VGA lead.

Can I get some suggestions on how to go about this?

Extra Graphics Card?
New Graphics Card?
VGA splitter (if they exist)?

I really don't know how I would go about this.

Strangely enough you appear to need to make the selection on the other monitor (where the selection is not greyed out) and then it will be available on the second one (and selecting that unselects and greys out the other one)

Works for me anyway.

A:multiple monitors

You need a video card with two outputs or use two video cards. If you use two cards, you should use cards of the same brand (ie: ATI or nVidia).

With that said, it also depends on the TV and the type of inputs that it supports. You then need a card with an output that matches the TV input (ie: HDMI, DVI, VGA, etc.)

Hi, I'm new here so I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section.

I have 2 monitors and one TV connected to my Win7 desktop. I was wondering if there's a gadget or something to facilitate the process of changing my display as my current video card only supports 2 screens at once. I use my 2 monitors most of the time, but whenever I want to watch a movie its a hassle to disable my secondary monitor to enable my TV. If there's anything that will make this process quicker, please let me know.

Thank you.

Welcome to Seven Forums johnnyc418. A monitor switch box can be used to share 2 monitors with one PC (basically what you need to do). They will likely need to use the same type of output (VGA, or DVI). Have a google for Monitor Switch Box, and you will find many choices and price ranges. A Guy

Hi guys, I'm using a program which uses MS Access as the engine (with code on top). The program shows database details relating to a document and also the scanned image of the document at the same time. The screen is split in two.
As I can't afford a 21" monitor, is there any way I could use 2 monitors with 1 showing the details from the database & the other showing the image? I've seen guys using Microstation, an autocad type drafting program where they use 2 monitors simultaneously, one showing the detail & the other the complete image.
Any ideas would be appreciated .

Hi there I've got a inch Dell laptop with K screen Using the Dell docking station I'm running external monitors connected over DP ports LG's and Dell's - both external screens run at their respective native resolutions in the extended desktop regime Obviously the K on inch is a no-go so I use scaling to on the laptop screen only to emulate The screen is sharp So far so good However Some applications are distinctively blurry or rasterized when displayed on ANY of the external monitors For example Word and Notepad are unusable as they are monitors multiple with Scaling plain blurry to be used as text editors Chrome and MSIE have distorted Scaling with multiple monitors blurred menu texts and rendering of pages is really poor and blurry Same goes for Total Commander ALL these applications display correctly on the native screen Now Firefox and items such as windows settings are sharp on all three screens I already tried using the per-application setting to stop DPI scaling but it did not help with Chrome and with Total Commander I ended up with a ridiculously oversized app To add insult to the injury the Skype's main window with contacts is OK on the laptop's screen - individual conversation windows on external monitors are grotesquely huge I resorted to using resolution on the laptop's screen and no scaling - this rectified apps blurriness issue on external screens Also the laptop screen is set to Hz which to some extent which helped with inevitable blur Any ideas how to set up my setup so I have sharp screens Thanks

How do I get multiple monitors on my laptop?

Previously, I was told that you can only hve the extra one - that plugs into the external monitor plug on most laptops.

But yesterday: I came accross a website selling some software that gives you multiple monitors!
I looked up on You Tube: there were people who had loooads of monitors plugged into their laptops!
They even had several laptops all connected: one being the main laptop and the others acting as extended monitors.

Instead of buying this software: I was pretty sure there would be a very good open source and free alternative?

Thanks!

So here is the issue. I have four monitors on a stand two on the bottom, and two on top. Now the bottom two are connected via a Nvidia GF 9600 video card, and are working fine. However the top two are connected via USB > DVI Connector, (supported Windows 7, drivers installed). Now the top two monitors connected via the USB2DVI are working however windows does not recognize the monitors within the display control panel. So I cannot set the physical layout within windows, to get to the top monitors I must scroll to the extreme right to get to these monitors.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

A:Can't get multiple monitors LCD/CRT working

I'm going to feed back a few things so I can determine if I understand your configuration correctly.

You have two monitors... One, a Trinitron CRT which is connected to the analog output of your graphics card with a standard VGA cable (this is the standard way of connecting a CRT monitor). The second monitor, a Sony LCD has only an analog input (no DVI input) so you have connected it to the graphics card DVI output through a DVI to analog adapter.

Does that all sound correct?

Have you tried connecting the LCD directly to the analog output to see if it functions correctly?

I've never used a DVI to analog adapter, so I cannot say whether this may be a factor or not. I would, however, be suspicious of it.

You might also try connecting your CRT monitor through the adapter.

Suggest going to the following link and look around. They have a good tutorial. You may find something relavent about your adapter.

A:Multiple Monitors and Resolution

The answer to #2 is yes, which is also why #1 is at the resolution. The answer to #3 is to set it to extended mode if you want to run at different resolutions. Duplicate or clone mode is just what it says and is limited to the lower resolution if both displays aren't the same.

A:multiple monitors in hp pavillion

It's called a video card, not a monitor card. Yes, there are PCI versions of them, and yes, putting one in will allow you to use two monitors. Just keep looking

I'd probably just go to a store and spend $50 on a card with two outputs on it, rather than trying to mix a card from a dumpster with your onboard video.

Thanks in advance!

This is my second attempt at multiple monitors. Currently I can see the same thing on both monitors, but I want to stretch the desktop so I can see different things on each monitor. My computer recognizes that I have multiple monitors, but is not presenting the option to stretch the desktop.

The Settings tab of the Display properties screen shows a picture of one monitor instead of two, but at the bottom says:

Display:
(Multiple Monitors) on Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller

That's all text. No drop-down for selecting how to use the monitors.

I know how it's supposed to look when it's working, because I have seen it on other machines. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1100 with Windows XP Pro. All updates and such installed. This problem has occurred with both monitors I have tried--one a standard CRT, this one flat panel.

Thanks!

A:Multiple Monitors: Windows 7

4670 should have two outputs. If they're both DVI on your card, you can get a 3$ DVI to VGA adapter.
I think it's possible to do it with onboard and add-on graphics mixed, but for two monitors, it's a bit pointless to enable the onboard graphics and add power consumption where you could simply use the 4670 for both monitors.
You would be going to the BIOS setup and re-enabling the onboard graphics adapter there, but it might not want to to work with the 4670 running as well.

I have been using a second monitor with my E540 through the VGA with no problems.  I want to add a second external  monitor and was wondering if I need to use the HDMI port in order to view 3 separate screen or can I use a VGA y splitter?

Hello, I need help. Trying to setup 3 display monitors to 2 computers on windows 7. Would anyone know how to do that?

A:Multiple Monitors (Displays)

Can you explain in more detail the desired goal? Some monitors can receive multiple inputs, but all monitors can only display one input at a time. I'm just not sure exactly how you're wanting these to be hooked up.

Hello.

I contacted Netflix support for this issue
and they said it is an html5 issue ?????

ok. The support engineer said to install Chrome.
ok. Chrome runs Netflix a-ok, good to go, on multiple monitors
that have differing resolutions in Windows 10.

Chrome displays Netflix fine on 1 monitor @ 3840 x 2160
and the other @ 1920 x 1080 at the same time

IE does not - Edge does not - the Netflix app does not.

Anyone else?

A:netflix on multiple monitors

Can you be more specific about what you mean by "multiple monitors"? Do you mean, at the same time? Or do you mean on monitors other than the primary one?

A:Multiple Monitors problem

All laptops these days have a dual video ability, if you want to disable the external then right - click on the "missing" screen under Control Panel - Display - Settings and deselect "attached"

I am not a "gamer" but a business user; mostly spreadsheets and accounting appls. I am running XP SP3. I have an Intel D845EBG2 motherboard. It has one AGP slot, which houses an Nvidia GeForce2 MX/MX400 video card(which the bios designates as PRIMARY) and six PCI slots. I wanted to add monitors. I read that the card was pretty OK so I left it alone and I bought a GeForce 6200 video card which accomodates VGA, DVI, and S-Video. I plugged it into an open PCI slot.
I hooked-up two monitors to the new card and it works fine. I want to hook a third monitor to the old card. When I boot-up, the monitor on the old card lights up and when Windows opens the other two monitors take over and the initial monitor goes blank. Some reading suggests that I must tweak the Bios. Can anyone tell me how to make those changes.

I have a laptop computer and I want to hook up a projector to it. This
projector will ideally display the same image as the laptop screen.
However, when I try to do this, Windows enlists the projector as a
"secondary monitor" and all that is displayed on the projector is my
desktop background. No desktop icons or windows. How do I make the
projector a second primary monitor instead of a secondary monitor. The
"use this monitor as the primary monitor" box is disabled.
Thanx in advance,
-PA

A:troubles with multiple monitors

Two possibilities:

- Some laptops will have this feature built-in and it can be toggled between LCD, external monitor, and LCD+external monitor. You can usually cycle through the options by holding down the Function (Fnc) key and pressing one of the F-keys. In this case you should not have "Extend my desktop onto this monitor checked."

- Some video drivers have the option to "clone" the laptop monitor onto an external display.

What model of laptop are you running?

I have done a clean install of win 2000 [had 98 se] now I no longer have the right tab in the display, advanced tab, to control ;and set my 2 [lcd] monitors. The win 2000 book shows it should be there, just like before; NOT ! Have tried every driver available for the ati agp card. [radeon 7000] Is there a file or some thing to open to get my dual/multiple monitors to work. Sorta like the themes, I can not find it. Didn't find anything in the windows data base. HELP

A:win 2000 pro multiple monitors

w2k doesn't natively support dual monitors. I'm fairly sure you're going to need a nvidia card to be able to get true dual view.

I've been able to get it to work with an nvidia card and driver 43.45. I haven't gotten it to work with an ATI card.

XP's a different story. ATI cards work just fine.

Hi We have a number of computers with triple monitors and what we want to do is to have one monitor on the local machine and use the other two for a dual-monitor setup on an RDP session These 'client' computers are all running Windows Enterprise and the 'server' computers are running either Windows Server R or Windows Enterprise Here is what I have found a subset Using monitors of multiple If I mstsc with 'default' settings the remote session appears on a single monitor - as expectedIf I mstsc and select the 'Use all my monitors for the remote session' the remote session appears on all monitors - as expected If I change the RDP group policy on the 'server' to 'Limit maximum number of monitors' to whilst keeping the 'Use all my monitors for the remote session' on the client the remote session appears Using a subset of multiple monitors on a single monitor - not as expected If I change the 'Limit maximum number of monitors' to whilst keeping the 'Use all monitors for the remote session' on the client the remote session appears on all monitors which would indicate that the setting is effecting the client display Can anyone help me resolve this issue so that I can configure the machines to display a remote session on out of screens Thanks in advance Phil

I have a laptop connected to a data projector, that 3 months ago worked great. Someone at our church has made some kind of change that has left it less than perfect.

In Display I have two monitors, 1 & 2, 1 being primary. 2 has the check box "Extend my Windows desktop on this monitor", checked. The problem is that nothing will display on the second monitor but the Windows wallpaper, no icons, no systray, and no other applications. So when I play a DVD, its cool on the laptop, but all I see on the big screen is the wallpaper. I can change the wallpaper, and it shows the change, but nothing else.
As always any help is appreciated.

I just recently d/led the catalyst 3.8 drivers and have a small problem. Under my display settings it says I'm running multiple monitors. While before it was just one. Also I've had slightly longer start ups since I've d/led the catalyst 3.8 drivers, I'm not sure if this is because it's set for multiple monitors or what. I've tried going to the advanced settings and disabling one of the monitors. There are 2, plug and play and default. I've tried disabling default and then it goes back to single monitor but as soon as I close the settings window and go back it's back to multiple. It very annoying Anyway it does the same thing when I try to disable the plug and play. And no I have not added any new hardware to my computer. If anyone could help that would be great.

In my home theatre I have a Win Pro PC set up for Extended Display set up for - a large k TV the default with high res settings Monitor - a small legacy quot display low-res settings Monitor The large screen is the default Monitors for Multiple Utilities screen as that's what I need to be displayed when watching media and controlling things via a wireless keyboard on the couch The purpose of the small display is simply so that I don't have to have to keep the Utilities for Multiple Monitors large display on when -doing minor config setup work -listening to music via iTunes -viewing the 'current' song being played on my digital cable box -etc It's more or less working well but THE ISSUE IS THIS When working when both displays are on and the active window in on the large display I can select it and drag it over to the small display to work with But when the large display is powered off I am blind all I see is the task bar and whatever I launch goes of course goes to the default display -Is there any tool or utility I can use to virtually see the open window on the active monitor and so I can drag it over -Is there any tool or utility like TeamViewer has where there is a top level menu quot Next Monitor quot to help manage the screens Ironically when I do use Team Viewer from another room its perfect as I can flip between monitors at will as I am starting on the 'default' screen But when I am in front the physical machine in front of the small monitor I dont have that option What I kinda need is the multiple monitor option of Duplicated displays but that does not work because of the different resolutions I can use Show Desktop Only on as I cant get there ie a right click will always show up on the large screen only as is the default My workaround for now is poor I need to power up the large display drag the window eg iTunes to the smaller display and then turn off the large TV

A:Utilities for Multiple Monitors

If you press the Windows logo key and the P key, you could just switch it back to PC only and all Windows should open on the one screen. Then switch back to extend when using the two screens. I put shortcuts for PC only and Extend on my taskbar so I can switch with just one click. I only use one monitor when I game.
