I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

They both look comparable, but then I'm no expert on monitors. The only major difference I could see was the Asus monitor doesn't appear to have built-in speakers (has an headphone port for HDMI instead), the Benq monitor does have built-in speakers.

What are some key factors to look at to determine which LCD monitor to buy? ex.: Is a monitor with a super high contrast ratio (10,000+) really all that greater than a monitor with a 1,000 or 2,000 (or lower) contrast ratio? Is a monitor that is 1080p/HD better than a regular LCD monitor in terms of general use (moderate gaming, watching movies, etc.)?

A:What to look for when buying an LCD monitor?

I would buy a monitor with a high contrast ratio if you are into graphic design work and photo editing. These monitors display richer colors and makes high quality images appear more vivid. You may also notice some enhancements in games as well with textures appearing more crisp and clear. Displays with a lower ratio are not really "inferior" but you will notice that some colors may not appear so vividly. However, I would just get something with a decent contrast ratio, like 20000:1 and with a good response time under 5 seconds. That will give you a good picture and a good gaming experience.

1080p is a good solution for HD gaming, and is only available in some widescreen monitors. I would recommend a widescreen display because they are nice for gaming and there's a lot more desktop space to work with.

Hi I'm new to this idea of buying things yourself and building your computer, and at 20 im not proud . So ... I have got the computer and I'm looking at the monitor and have no idea. I'm used to a 27 inch AOC e2795Vh. Whether this is good or bad is regardless as I have found that the quality is not nearly as good as my flat mates monitor. So I have a budget of ?200 (But can push it to ?300, don't want to really.) I would like 27 inch as im used to it but I think I could live with 24. So any help would be great. Also I'm not looking for anything branded just something which I can do gaming and photoshop on.

Any responses would be great, even pointing me in the right direction saying you want something with a high refresh rate. I don't know anything really.

A:Help, buying new monitor

for what you're looking to spend and use it for, a monitor is a monitor. be aware that a screen too large may require a beefier video card than you have in your PC. youre probably safe with a 20". Dont get too caught up in brand but if 2 comparable models are priced the same definately go with the warranty. more than likely you will never use it but the option is nice.

Hi. Im going to buy an lcd monitor soon. Could you please give me some advice starting with the following coordinates ?

I´ve been flirting with asus PG191. They say it is a very good monitor when it comes to performance. The problem is that it has a lot of utilities that i dont need, like the subwoofer and the sophisticated sound system. I think that these utilities increase the final cost of the monitor.

Is there some other option for me that would keep similar or better performance qualities, but would not add those sound gadgets, and would keep a lower budget for that reason?

My desktop Monitor doesn't work properly. It takes a good 20 minutes to come on. When it starts up all it shows is a white screen and then after a while it works, but now the brightness is extremely low. Even when I adjust the settings it doesn't change. Anyways I've decided that I'm going to buy a new Monitor. Anyone has any suggestions on a monitor that I could buy for under $150 dollars?

My father's birthday is coming up, and I'm starting to think about a gift to get him. His computer is about 3 or 4 years old and he still has the bulky 15" CRT monitor that came with it, so I thought that a nice new flat-panel LCD would be nice. I found a good deal on a 22" widescreen LCD, but I don't know if it'll be an easy switch over. Will I have to worry about any problems such as having to buy certain new wires or an ugraded video card, etc? Will there be distortion problems due to jumping to a widescreen? (he really only uses it for internet purposes, so I don't have to worry about games or any fancy software). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

I just back from the mall, made a list of all the wide screen LCD monitors they have there and got their specifications.

They all have the same response time (5 ms) and the same resolution (1680x1050). They differ in contrast ratio (ranges from 700:1 to 2500:1) and whether a DVI port is available or not.

My questions here are:

1) Does the DVI port really matter? I've googled this and can't get a straight answers. Some say it does, and some say it doesn't.

2) Are there any other specifications I should be aware of, or shall I base my decision on the contrast ratio only?
Your help is much appreciated

A:What should I really look for when buying a new LCD monitor?

1 - If you ever plug in two different computers (or a PC with dual output) into an LCD monitor and switch between the two - yeah, there is a noticable difference. Is not as bad today as compared to 3+ years ago. But especially on a 24" or larger, its noticable if you have good or excellent eye site.

1b - Your computer must have DVI output. An add-on card for $20~50 can take care of that.

2 - High contrast is good. Especially if you're movies on it. Higher the better, but different manufactures have different standards.

3 - Go by brand, feature and budget.

I bought an older model 24" LCD because I like its features & looks... but lost a bit on contrast... then a newer model comes out soon after and... ugh, a better deal. Places like costco, you can get an LCD monitor with HD-TV tuners for $350 (22") or $500 (26") - which are not the same as LCD TVs with VGA ports. Odd, but true.

I'd say look at Samsung (which is what I buy the most - but there are other excellent models/brands out there), check out 24" 1920x1200 res is quite nice.

Howdy,

I'm looking to buy a new monitor for my parents, but they'd like to stick to something less than $150. I've been looking on newegg.com and I've found some 17" CRT flat screen monitors for about that price.

I'm just looking for feedback--any thoughts as to what I should look for, etc.? They are the most casual computer users around--nothing special is needed...

Thanks...

A:Buying a New Monitor

If they are real casual, you might as well get a regular (not flat) 19". A little bit more real-estate for them, without much visual quality hit because I doubt they would notice much of a difference. I am pretty sure you can get a nice Viewsonic for under $150.

Need advice. My friends say to stick with a regular monitor with a resolution of 1600x1200. Needless to say the monitors are pretty pricy and I notice that Widescreens are cheaper. I am a gamer so I want what is best for gaming. Are games being made into widescreen or would i be better off sticking with a 4:3 monitor?

A:Buying New monitor

Most newer games can handle the wide screen formats.
Alot of gamers swear by CRT monitors and they are better for games,
but I am using an LCD and it is fine for gaming.
With a CRT,you need a monitor that can handle a high refresh rate.
LCD's are not dependent on refresh rates but response time.
LCD's are being made that have a 2 milisecond response time now.
Pretty quick.

A:Monitor Buying!!

TFT short for thin film transistor, a type of LCD flat-panel display screen, in which each pixel is controlled by from one to four transistors.
The TFT technology provides the best resolution of all the flat-panel techniques, but it is also the most expensive.
LCD short for liquid crystal display.
LCD displays utilize two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution between them. An electric current passed through the liquid causes the crystals to align so that light cannot pass through them. Each crystal, therefore, is like a shutter, either allowing light to pass through or blocking the light.

Hi guys, I was just considering buying a new monitor and I was just wondering if you could answer a few questions I have. The most important tasks I use my computer for are graphic design and video editing, but I do also occasionally play games.

First, what exactly are contrast ratio and response time? What numbers should I be looking for in these areas?

In my price range it seems like a 24" monitor would be best, but the native resolution is something like 1920 x 1200 and I'm afraid that my 8800GTS 320MB won't be able to handle that for newer games. Would it look really bad to run games at a lower than native resolution?

Finally, I've seen some monitors advertise DVI connection and some HDMI? What is the difference? If the monitor I buy doesn't have HDMI will it be incompatible with future video cards?

Thanks for your help.

I want to buy a new flat screen LCD monitor (19").

I've currently got a Dell PC and an old CRT monitor (smaller).

It's easiest for me to get one at B&H in NYC so I'm looking at the Acer V193W,
HP L1908w, Lenovo L195 and Samsung SyncMaster 920WM.

There is also the HP / Hewlett-Packard w1907 19" Widescreen LCD Computer Display - VGA/DVI-D with Integrated Speakers (Black) which is offering a big rebate.
These are all in stock. There are also some higher priced models of the same brands in stock.

I don't need anything fancy and I don't want to spend too much (I figure what I save in shipping will let me get a better one) but I watch a lot of TV and movies online.

I'd appreciate any input about what I really ought to be looking for in the specifications before I buy.

Hi,

I plan on buying a new WQHD Monitor (2560x1440). I mostly work using Remote Desktop, i.e. a connect to a remote PC in a different country.
Of course there is a lag working that way, currently I work in 1920x1080, as the content needs to be transferred to my local PC in order to be displayed.
I want to somehow test how much this lag will be increased when I switch to 2560x1440 as there are like 70% more pixels to transfer.

Is there anyway to simulate this higher resolution and check the lag my self?

Hi,

I have two LG L227WTP 22inch monitors on my PC and one of them is not working properly anymore. When I switch it on the power button light keeps flickering and the monitor won't run off until 5-10 mins after, before it turns on it will be flickering, but once it is on after those 10mins it seems to work fine.

This monitor is about 6 years old and it was not very expensive when I bought it, so I am wondering if this would be an easy thing to have repaired? Or would a repair easily cause the same cost of buying a new monitor?

A:repairing a monitor vs buying a new one?

Potentially it's just a blown capacitor, for which the cost of an actual replacement would be a couple of euros at most.

This is doable yourself, or you could pay a local computer repair shop to do it; this should be much cheaper than the cost of a replacement monitor.

If the issues are greater than a blown capacitor, then the cost of repair might not be worth it.

I currently have a 15" CRT monitor which is now too small since I got into photo editing and gaming.
I was thinking of going for a 19" LCD but am now wondering if it'll be too big, as I read that a 19" LCD gives the same viewing area as a 22" CRT. Is this true, and if so why is this? I thought screen measurement was diagonal, therefore meaning that 22" is 22" whether the monitor is CRT or LCD.

(Probably missing something obvious)

A:Buying advice for LCD monitor

CRT measures the ouline of the whole tube. When covered with the CRT-casing or bezel, the visible part of the tube is a lot smaller than the tube itself.
Hence indications on e.g. a 19" CRT (vis. 18").
An LCD mentions strictly whatever is visible, so 19" is really 19"
And both are always the diagonal measurements.

I'm thinking of upgrading my CRT to an LCD widescreen.

Trouble is, I'm not sure if my video card will support it. It's an ATI Radeon 9000. I went to the ATI web site and downloaded the latest drivers. Apparently my card is no longer supported; the last update was about 2 months ago. I installed it and it doesn't seem to offer support for the resolution 1440x900, which is the max resolution a widescreen monitor supports.

Would I need to buy a new card?

I never had a LCD monitor, always had CRT. I Am looking to get an LCD monitor but i have a question.
When the monitor says "MAX RESOLUTION 1024X768" does that mean it only runs at that resolution? OR can i go lower then that if i want to?

Also, my main use of PC is for gaming, should I stick with CRT or go with LCD? I need a new monitor for my new pc i just built.

I presently use a 19" Flat Screen Viewsonic CRT for Internet and Gaming - - - BUT I now see that the 19" Widescreen LCD's are coming down within my price range...........getting tempted, and am looking them over on the WEB...............BUT I do NOT know exactly WHAT I should be looking for in one of them (spec. wise) for my uses............also, I see that the ones that I have been looking at have a native resolution of something like 4400x900, and others say will do something like 1680x1080 - - - - BUT my Video Card (fairly recent Nividia EVGA 7800 GT) will NOT run at those resolutions.
Can someone PLEASE advise me about this situation..........could I run my most played game, BF2, in wide screen, and IF so, would it look as good or better than it does now?
My present Graphics Card tops out at 1600x1200.

Thanks,, Michael

Im looking for a gaming monitor for around 200$ USA, I plan to build my own computer in a few weeks and here are my planned specs.
Windows xp (until windows 7)
3.2 quadcore amd
275 nvidea video card
4gig ddr3 ram
750 gig rom

Id like to play the newest games on the highest settings and be able to watch the blue ray quality movies. Oh yeah I was also wondering if windows xp 64 bit is worth getting. I have my windows xp from this old dell dimension 2400 (32 bit), I have no problem using it until windows 7 comes out. But if windows 64 bit is significantly better ill spring for it.

A:Looking into buying a new monitor in a few weeks

Wait for Windows 7 64 bit... It is much better than XP or Vista 64 bit, especially for gaming

i want to buy a monitor for this computer - Compaq - Presario Desktop with AMD Athlon? X2 4450e+ Dual-Core Processor
specs:
AMD Athlon? X2 4450e+ dual-core processor; 3GB DDR2 SDRAM; DL DVD?RW/CD-RW drive; LightScribe labeling; 250GB hard drive; Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1

i just wanted to know if a dell monitor could work on this computer or any monitor for that matter. or does it have to be compaq to work, or maybe hp.

A:buying monitor- can it work on any desktop?

I believe you can use any monitor for any pc, because of the VGA connector (the big blue connector with the screws either side). My mum's office uses Compaq computers with Dell monitors :)

Hello All,

I want to buy a nice monitor to compliment my 8800GTX (and my Wii), if you guys could give me your thoughts on the following two that would be appriciated!

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-021-BQ&utm_source=froogle

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142593

They both have component, composite, DVI and HDMI inputs making them both awesome for a good all-rounder.

The BENQ got full marks on Trusted Reviews, where as the Dell got full marks on cnet...

Any other suggestions would be appriciated.

Regards,

Alex.

Of the 4 monitors that i have owned and broke during the past 6 years, i am now using a fuzzy 15inch monitor(that now has about a 10 inch screen area) that i found in a closet, made in 1997. Stop laughing at this point.

I have to buy a new monitor and my first thought was go buy a 17iinch traditional (tv-like)monitor. I recall seeing Staples has them at $79 sometimes. I am thinking maybe of spending about $100-140 for a flat type monitor.

First question: are flat monitiors all that better than traditional monitors for that xtra $50-70 for the same size screen.

Second question: is a 15inch flat monitor a better choice than a 17 inch traditional monitor

Thrid question: i am seeing some flat monitors as low as $110 at Wallyworld type stores. Should i avoid there no name monitors?

ALL of the above is of course generalizational questions and preferences.

Hello, I want to buy a new monitor, but I don't know which one.
The things I want:
-A high resolution, the maximum for my graphics card is 2560x1600. I want to utilize it as much as possible.
-the screen doesn't need to be too big, but not too small. I want a good size for sitting around 80-100 cm from my monitor.
-It doesn't need to have a lot of functions like USB and MicroSD slots.
-Paying more than 500 euro for a monitor is the max.
-I would like it if it has the same ratio as an A4 paper because that is more pleasant for your eyes instead a total rectangular display. This isn't 100% necessary.
I hope someone can help me with choosing a new monitor.
Kind regards,
x11.

Hello guys.
Ok so i am having a tough time deciding on which/ what spec i should get for a flat screen monitor.

I use the computer mainly for film viewings and photos. the other stuff aswell like the internet and games sometimes but not much. I need to know what to look for.

I was thinking of getting one with 1280x1024, 700:1 contrast, 75hz, response time of 12ms. The model is an iiyama. the main reason for getting one is actually lack of space. So do i get one thats great in one area or good in many?

I'm pretty much stuck on what is best. Any help would be very good.

Cheers then

A:im buying a dvd rom...

DVD roms are very inexpencive.. This Sony http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172460 is only $26. I might suggest going ahead and getting a DVD-RW drive if you are going to upgrade. You can get a Sony for under $50 through ZipZoomFly or NewEgg. Something like http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172472 for $39.99. It may come in handy someday if you ever want to back up some pictures/music/files.

As for installation, you just need to plug it in just like your old CD-Rom was. Its pretty easy to see once you crack open your case. The pins only fit one way on the device, so its hard to mess that up.. and Windows should recognize the new device and load the drivers for you.

Good luck!

Obviously whether you buy this machine depends on how much you are going to pay for it... The spec looks OK to me although I don't know anything about Elitegroup motherboards.

If you are benchmarking the system, it is a good idea to make sure that all the latest drivers are installed in the machine (I doubt they will be if it's shop built) to make the most of it... although the GFX card might be the limiting factor there (More memory might help too).

If the Motherboard is DDR, you will not be able to use your old pc133 sdram (U can send it to me if you want....) Why would you want to do this anyway? - you have DDR in the new system.

Hope this helps, I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong....

p.s. Just noticed that this is my 300th post.....Yippee!!

One of my PC games, The Sims, hogs a lot of memory as well, and I think it would help to add more RAM. I have 256MB right now, and I believe the maximum I can have is 512MB. If you have the 32 Bit version of windows on your computer you already have the top amount of ram for that system.

I have a small request. I am quite new to the pc scene and have no idea what to get. I want a pc with which I can run my engineering programs such as MATLAB and AutoCAD or Solidworks, but also want a pc that will run games such as forza horizon 3 and Arma 3 in Ultra settings without any frame drops. Would it be possible for you to make me a build which would suit me? I found this PC - click here seems to have amazing parts for a very decent price but dont know the catch to it as there are no reviews of it anywhere.
I have a budget of upto 1100£ and would greatly appreciate your help.
Best regards and many thanks,
Batu

My brother-in-law is in the market for a new p.c.
He went to Besy Buy to shop around - found a comp he likes. The sales guy told him that he needs a surge protector with a backup battery that will run the p.c. for 30 minutes in the event of a power failure.

He also said that with new computers a regular surge protector is not enough. He said the warranty will be void if he does not buy the battery backup surge protector. He said all new 2.* processor computers need this feature.

Is this true? I have never heard of such a thing. I am curious if the sales man is handing my Bro-in-law a line of crap.

Sorry if this is the wrong area to ask this type of question, but it seemed appropriate to me.

Thanks for the info.

Which is the new ram? Do you already have a video card?
DDR ram is so cheap now, why not just get 1GB of PC3200. It's like $80 for 1GB.

Well i had this computer for about 3-4 years... somewhere around there where 256 MB of Ram is what i currently have for this desktop. Pretty crappy compare to today's technology which im still amazed at how quickly it grew. Anyways i was hoping to buy some more RAM and install it myself but i don't know how and what the average price cost is. Looking for 1-2 GB of RAM hopefully 2 GB.

Hi again,
A friend of mine asked me to update his incredibly sluggish computer, and it's obvious for me that he needs significantly more RAM than he has right now.
The said computer has two slots, being one occupied with a 1GB stick.

My question is, should I buy a 2x1GB stick or a 2GB stick (same speeds, but different brand) in order to get optimal performance and stability?
(I still ponder getting 2x2GB, but I don't believe he's willing to pay ?39 for it).

Best regards,
Pedro.

A:Buying some RAM

If his motherboard supports it, I would get two sticks and run them in dual channel. When using ram always match sticks of the same to avoid issues.

I'm looking to buy a new AMD based PC.
In particular, I like the new AM3 system however, the benchmarks indicate that the Phenom II 810 is quite **** so I better stick with the tri-core Phenom II 720. Is this a good gaming PC? I rarely upgrade so I guess I'm stuck with this PC for about 3-4 years. I just can't wait for the Phenom II 945 to be available. Also if there is a Phenom II 925, I would consider buying it.

BTW, my budget is around $750. I don't know much aside from the processor so a list about the other components would be really helpful.

Help me make this an epic build TSG! I want to play PC games again.
The last time I bought a computer was 7 years ago!

I am currently interested in replacing my current GPU which is a multimedia graphics card for a gaming graphics card.

I am in search for something that is just enough for my system hardware (exceptions Power Consumption, Size of GPU, Card Slot, all these are not important right now hahaha). Something that doesnt bottleneck any other component in my system. Please help me since I have no idea about GPU jargon but also post links of tutorials or guides about understanding the GPU because I am also interested to learn.

PS: I like nVidia =D Thanks in advance guys ^_^

A:Need help buying GPU

Well. There's the GTX 690? Very expensive but would bottle neck your other components.
I have the GTX 550 ti but if your going for something like that go for the GTX 560 as the performance has a staggering difference.
So either the eVga GTX 550 ti from nVidia.
Or GTX 560 from nVidia.
Look at my photo for the 550 ti

I've never bought RAM before, but I'm looking to upgrade. I'm going to get a 64 bit OS and at LEAST 8 gigs of ram. I have a budget of $200.

What do I need to know when purchasing RAM? I know I need DDR3, but is there anything else that's important to know before buying it? Also, is anything more than 8 gigs over kill? Would it be beneficial to get 16? I play a lot of games. What brands would you guys recommend?

brands to buy incl' crucial, corsair,Gskill, these have lifetime warranty....... 8 gigs is good 16 is a bit overkill.........your board supports 1600 i would get that..........a 8gig kit (2 x 4 sticks)

I am not sure what motherboard I have and I have downloaded "Cpuz" and "Aida" and neither can tell me.
My CPU I have currently is intel pentium e2140

That is according to CPUZ.
If you need to know anything else let me know.

I am just wondering if there is anything specific other than an amd won't work with my motherboard when buying a CPU.

Hi. My sister, who is even less computer savvy than I am, would like to purchase a new desktop or laptop. I tried to get her to switch to a Mac since I find them much easier to use, but she seems hesitant as they can be quite costly and she isn't familiar with them. All she really needs a computer for is internet, burning CDs, downloading music, word processing, and maybe some basic photo editing. She is looking to spend at the most $1,500 US. I am trying to find information on processors and locate a good computer that will last several years. Any suggestions? I have heard bad things about Dell computers, but not much else in regard to any other brand. I know nothing about processors anymore either.
If anyone has any suggestions that would be fantastic!

Thanks!

A:Buying a new PC

You may get as many different answers as there are readers of your post. Dell lovers/haters, Compaq lovers/haters. In my humble opionion, be sure it has a Pentium processor, preferably Pentium IV.

I also suggest either having one built or ordering one with what you need as "off the rack" computers may have too many things you don't/won't need. For example, I was five states away at a new account and the shipped computer crashed and I had to buy one that had so many options not needed and that conflicted with the proprietary software we use, it took two days to get operational. For instance, five different types of removable storage slots. Sheesh!

I'm sure you will get many suggestions.

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

A:Buying a new rig

Looks like quality parts to me.

Is there a 64 mb cache version of those Samsung drives?? Just a minor point.

I didn't look at the case specs, but you might consider aftermarket case fans as the supplied fans are often noisier than they need to be for the amount of air they move. I'd make sure the case will accept 120 mm fans.

Are you sure the mobo has all the ports you need?? eSATA for instance?

Is that Seasonic modular?? You might consider their X series modular 560 or 650 watt models if it is not modular.

I'm about to buy some more RAM to max out my Dell Precision 5500. At the moment I have 48GB loaded and I'm going all the way to 72GB which is what this model tops out at. I think I've identified the right kind of RAM to seal the deal but I just need a final nod from someone who knows better.

The RAM kit I've identified is Kingston Model# KTH-PL313K3/24G. A set of 3x8GB DDR3 Triple channel chips with ECC. My doubt arises from the fact that this RAM seems to be used mostly on servers and not workstations like mine.

Here's a link to the system report I generated using CPU-Z

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions.

Ok, so this is my motherboard
http://www.dfi.com.tw/portal/CM/cmp...sWindow?action=e&windowstate=normal&mode=view

Currently, I have AMD Athlon x2 6400. Is a 65 nm chip. The problem I am having is that it overheats when I game on it. Even with Zalman cooler.

I am thinking of buying this processor: (AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103644

It's a 45 nm chip, Will it work with my current motherboard?

I have been really impressed with AVG free, but I'm wondering if it is
worth it to buy it so i get some more capabilities like rootkit and spyware.
So I don't have to run spybot SD and AVG Free. So is it worth it?

hi guys, how do i find out what ram will work in my machine please

A:buying RAM

If it's a known factory-brand computer, you need to advise us what brand name and model name and model number it is.

If it's a custom/home-made computer, you need to advise us the brand name and model number of its motherboard.

At this time, we have no way of knowing what type RAM you need and how much RAM is supported.

According to this thread a Dell Inspiron 1501 can support upto 4GB of RAM (possibly 8GB)

On Dell's official website it says the maximum it can support is 2GB but I believe it can support more, they may not have tested for more.

I currently have W7 64 bit installed on my Dell Inspiron 1501 with 2GB of RAM.

I'm from the UK so could anyone suggest links to where I can buy 4GB of RAM and 8GB of RAM from?

A:Need help buying RAM

I found these:
Cheap Laptops, Tablet PC, and Cheap LED TVs | Ebuyer.com

PC Components, Desktop PCs, Laptops, LCD TVs & Computer Hardware

Aria PC - Computer Hardware, Components, Monitors.. at lowest prices

Laptops, Computers, PC Components, MP3 players, Software, Digital Cameras and more - dabs.com

Overclockers UK - Computer components, hardware & gaming PC

Computer Hardware - Scan.co.uk

I'd also suggest Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More! although I think it's international.
Also, some RAM-Building websites like Corsair's have functions which allow you to choose your country and show you stores of where you can buy(link).
You could just visit any computer hardware store.

PS: I've made some research about what your Inspiron can run, people say it supports 4GB of RAM (2*2), however Dell says it does not, many others are running 8 GB, I think you should try and if it does not work there are money refunds.

I would like to get a second pc for our home. We are on cable modem.Do I have to get a second cable modem for the new one??

A:Buying a second pc help please!!

No, you just need a router if you do not already have one. The cable modem will connect to the router and the router will share the internet to the two or more computers.

You can get either a wired or wired/wireless router like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127079
