I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Next time, don't sweat over computer parts

A drop on the HS (heatsink) isn't going to cause a short. When you powered up your computer, which I assume is a tower - what it standing up with the Heatsink facing down? if so, the worse is that it'll drop to the bottom of the case or evaporate within seconds of being warmed up by the GPU.

PSU issues: 350watt barely covers it... but also its the quality. So what was your previous PSU and your new 520? I'm talking name brand and model number. You can spend $25 on a "600watt" PSU that is WORSE than a $45 350watt PSU.

The DVD and Floppy drives only use 1-2 watts when not in use... so it made no difference. There might have been damage from using an underpowered PSU - this also includes the 520 if its not a quality unit.

Try this:
1 - Remove your 8600GT and revert to your previous graphics. Onboard or other card. See if compter operates properly. Your 8600GT could be faulty...

2 - if it works, exchange the 8600GT for another one.

3 - Provide INFO on the power supplies HERE before you do so. If your 520watt PSU is junk, you need to know now. Theres only a few 520s on the market.

My ATI 9600 video card has started behaving very strangely (see screenshot). I suspect if anyone has seen this problem before, they will immediately recognize it--note especially the wierd text distortion.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Screenshot is capped from Call of Duty UO, and reduced from 1280x1024 to 640x512.

I have checked all the basics (latest drivers; turned off fast writes; etc). According to my temp gauges, it's not a heat problem (but funnily enough is worse at the mo with 90deg weather outside, but I have aircon on). PC is a 2.6 GHz P3, 1.5Gb RAM, 600GB disc, Windows XP home SP2

hello friends,

i brought a new graphic card and installed it in my PC. everything went fine for 3 days, i have played all the high end games without any problem but after 3 or 4 days...the monitor started going into standby mode and some times it shows some gibberish colors on the screen.

Below are my PC specifications.

LG 17" CRT monitor
Processor : Intel Dual core 2.88 GHz.
MOBO : Intel D102GGC2.
ram : 2 Gb DDR2

Graphic card : NVIDIA GT 440 - 1 gB (DDR3) Purchased in September 2011.

I changed the screen resolution from least to max and tried in each instance but with no luck.
I removed the side cover of my cabinet but this did not make a difference.
Formatted the system and installed a new os but that did not help either.
I checked the temparature using Everest software and it showed around 39-40 C always.

Does any one have any inputs on this..

Hello everyone!

I recently came across a strange issue with my Windows 8.1 install. After some months working, the when i woke up the screen, sometimes the monitor glithces (boxes show up on screen) when something is refreshing on the screen, nothing when im not moving the mouse (doing nothing) on screen. It does it onlywhen im waking up the screen (not waking from sleep)

I did several tests accourding to the GPU power supply errors but nothing. Now i set the screen off timer to never and manually turning off the monitor.

What should be my next step with it? Its strange to me that it only does it in this situation, graphical performance in games, video editing is flawless.

The specs are :
Asus mobo
Core i7 2660k
8GB Corshair ram
Asus HD7750-DCSL-1GD5 GPU

So here's my story. I bought a new graphics card so I can duel monitor. When I took out the old one and was going to put the new one in, i noticed that my current power supply would not hold. It needs a 300 and i have a 260. So I put back the old one, which never had anything wrong with it to begin with, just wanted duel monitor. So now my computer starts but will not connect to the monitors. I have tried both that i have so i know it is not the monitor. Yes everything is connected and yes it is in the right spot. There is only one way it can go. I have talked to may of my friends who are IT's and they have no idea because they say im doing everything right. A:Dual monitor with new graphic card

Check the back of your monitor, if it also has an HDMI port or DisplayPort then you can just buy one of those cables to connected it. If it only has DVI or VGA then you will need to purchase a DisplayPort to DVI adapter. You can find those at most local computer stores, Walmart, or any online retailer.

Your card has three DisplayPort(DP) and one HDMI port in that top row.

Ok, a couple months ago i installed a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 400. It says im running a Delta DB-1765 monitor (i think). What happened after i installed it was that my computer no longer shows my boot. When i start the computer it shows a blank screen until it gets to the log in screen in which the Monitor will then work. What will happen is that when i plug a monitor into the Mother Board then that monitor will show the log up and when it gets to the log in screen that monitor will go black and the monitor plugged into the video card will show the log in screen. I don't know what to do, Please help.

You need to go into the BIOS setup of the motherboard and disable the onboard video or at least set the Primary VGA device to either PCI or AGP depending on what the Geforce card is.

Currently have FireGL V3350 which there are no ATI-provided W7 drivers.
It does seem to work OK though with the automatically installed drivers.

Thinking to upgrade to something a bit more up to date, what would the team suggest?
This is for basic office/development work with 2 19" viewsonics so need 2xDVI. No gaming and would prefer something with passive cooling.

Any thoughts?

A:Dual monitor graphic card suggestions

Since your needs are pretty simple, there are quite a few options available.

Off the top of my head I believe there are some passively cooled 4350's, 4670's, 9500gt, 9600gt etc

Where would you be ordering this from?

The computer stays on, but the monitor turns off right after I put it on. I've removed the onboard graphic card and disabled it and uninstalled it in device manager. But this keeps installing automatically everytime I restart:

Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Controller 0 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)
I also see it in device manager again.

At the moment I do not have a graphic card in the computer. Do I have to install drivers for my new card before I install it physically?

I went in BIOS and changed primary video adapter to pci-e. I also went in display settings and uninstalled the drivers of my old card there.
I do not know what else to do. I do not understand why the monitor turns off.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

A:Placed new 9400GT graphic card and monitor turns off?

No. You do not need to install drivers before you put in the new graphics card.

When you plug your monitor into the default output are you getting any display?

If you are, then there may be a problem with the output socket of your card. If the card has two sockets try switching.

When installing a new graphics card, all old drivers must be first removed. Then the computer is turned off and the new card is slotted into place. Start up the computer with the monitor plugged to the new card. Then install the new drivers from the installation CD provided by the vendor or from a downloaded .exe from the manufacturer's website.

** Forgot to mention, try booting into safe mode once and see if the display is working.

Hello all,

I think I have only seen something like this once and the problem was attributed to damaged RAM. This time around, the RAM seems to be in perfect working condition (tested with Memtest) and the problem still remains. I am starting to wonder if the graphic chip is not having issues. Take a look at the attached photo and tell me your opinions. I ran FurMark yesterday on this notebook for 6 hours and did not see this happen, but the customer insists that this graphic issue still sporadically occurs. The Nvidia graphic drivers are the newest version.

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook NP530U4C-S02DE

Intel Core i5 2537M 1.40 GHz / 8 GB DDR-3 @ 1033 MHz

Intel MH76 Chipset

1 GB Nvidia GeForce GT 620 with Optimus Technology

A:Strange sporadic graphic issues, graphic lock ups (with Pictures)

I think i read somewhere here in fact... that the newest drivers were causing a similar issue, try rolling back the drivers, and check if the newest drivers do support the GT 620. Ask if the customer installed drivers properly, and if the issue started with the install of the drivers. if so, you have the culprit.

Then you could try reinstalling the proper way, or leave it with the old drivers for the mean time.

A:video card/graphic card reboot problem

boynamedanurag Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about booting and video card problems and wanted to help. So, if I understand what you're saying, you reinstalled Win7 and the PC boots OK, right? But when you then install a video driver and reboot, it does not boot, right? My guess is that you have one of the old DV6 laptops that has two video chipsets, something called Switchable Graphics.  And the problem with that is that only the HP OEM video drivers will work on that laptop.  IF you install other ones, such as the ones you get from AMD or Nvidia, they will NOT work -- which sounds like what is happening to you. What DOES work is restoring your PC using HP Recovery Media because that will contain the HP OEM drivers.  Media. This is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks.  You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: there, input your Product name or number. With Installing ASUS GEFORCE 8600GT

Video Card - NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600 GT
CPU – Pentium 4 3.00 GHz 2992 Mhz
RAM – 4 Gb
Brand - Dell Dimension 5150
PSU - Dell L305P-00

The symptoms of the problem are that recently the screen started to flicker and break up, it has become so bad that I can only boot in safe mode. I emailed NVIDIA with the problem and they suggested that the video card needed replacing. I installed an ASUS GEFORCE 8600 GT card but the PC wouldn’t even boot after I had. Someone has suggested that the graphics card is not the problem but it's the PSU. How do I find out which it is?

I'm using a BFG GeForce 6800GT (Factory overclocked) and its been causing me some trouble lately - a few problems come up:

1. While playing a game (specifically, battlefield 2142), it freezes, needing a manual restart.
2. Same as #1, except it automatically restarts.
3. Occasionally after logging in i see my desktop for a few seconds and it either restarts or a fuzzy black and white static-like screen appears, needing a manual restart. Every time this happens I can't log in after a restart.

I've gone into safe mode each time the fuzzy screen/restart problem occurs, and re-installed drivers. It usually works for about a day then the problem occurs again and I have to do another re-install. Any help? thanks.

A:graphic card problem.

Usually with graphics cards, you install the graphics driver from the manufacturers website of the graphics card itself. But with ones put together by the manufacturer, you can go directly to their website and download all the latest drivers for your computer itself.

I'm going to assume you are using the "HP Pavilion dv5000 CTO Notebook PC" running Windows XP. There were some very similar model ones to that. Here is the link, but you will need to figure out if you are using Intel (integrated), NVIDIA, or ATI graphics. The easiest way would be to go to your device manager, or use the program Speccy from my signature.

If you try and install it, and it doesn't recognise the hardware for any of the three drivers, then either you have the wrong driver (different laptop model), or you might need to perform a full reinstall. I'm only saying the reinstall bit because I had to do that once, where despite the correct driver the hardware wasn't being recognised.

A:Graphic Card Problem

Hi there......

what does the device manager state under ''display adaptors''..??

if your card has not been generically detected by the OS the basic video driver windows has installed to view the desktop is probably ''up to date'', thats what i think is happening.

did you just build this rig, or swap GFX cards..??

you might try reseating the card see if that helps, also if it is a new build remember to install your chipset drivers before you try & update the GPU

well power everything back down, and make a shot at re-seating it properly.
So far as I know that model doesn't require a power chord to be plugged into it, but if it does make sure that it is plugged in and the connector is okay.
After that I would have to say yes, there is very likely a problem.
Though it could be either the card or the motherboard.
You didn't fill out your specs but I'm guessing this is a slightly older system.

If theres a problem with the graphics driver then that could definitely happen. Have you tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it? And the driver you are using, is it from the Acer site or the Intel site? Intel generally has newer drivers then on the Acer site.

Running W7P and while doing some image and backup work, I noticed that everytime I do a restart of the system (whilst pushing the "Delete" button to get to bios) and before the first bios screen, the graphic card (ATI Radeon HD 4850) fan will go into screaming high speed. The system will no longer continue to boot, monitor goes to sleep. If I do not try to get to Bios, normal boot. Don't know where to begin on this one. Once up and running, everything is normal. Tx

A:Graphic card problem or??

This has been happening more frequently now. Yesterday I was running normal, installed a new program that required a restart, (menu option at the end of install) and just as boot up was finished, not yet to windows, screen goes dark, the graphics fan goes warp speed. This one was persistent, just would not restart, removed all perfs, HDD's, just the minimum. No luck. Unplugged and let sit for 30 minutes, same problem. Only after I physically removed the card and reinstalled, did it start normal. Tried restart again, same problem, removed card and reinstalled, started up. I hate to go and spend some $$ for a new card, and find out it is something else. Any suggestions appreciated.

The Dell diagnostics can be used to test the system - F12 at powerup.  In particular, you should run an extended test on the hard drive, which is a common cause of driver problems.
In order to reinstall Windows correctly, the order in which drivers are loaded is important.  Once the OS is loaded, including Service Pack 1, the chipset drivers must be loaded, followed by a reboot.  Then install the Intel GPU driver and reboot.  Finally, install the framework as required by the AMD Catalyst suite and reboot, and then install the AMD GPU driver.

Did you uninstall the integrated graphics driver? and installed the new driver for the 8500gs card?

Also maybe you have to set in the BIOS menu to PCIx for display.

Hello everyone, first I would like to apologize if I make mistake because I am not very good in english, I am french.

Okay so for like... a month my computer have not been able to detect my Graphic card. It happened after I downloaded a patch for origin; after that, there would be black border around my screen and I am not able to enter video game. I updated my driver and everything but it is still not working.

Also, i would like to note that some video game that I played that my computer used to run smoothly where starting to lag (skyrim)

Do you think my graphic card is broken and I need to change it ? I just want to make sure before buying another one...
(it is a nvidia Geforce 560 Ti)

Thank you for the help !

Hi sweetymew and welcome. When you updated you driver did you go to the manufacturer's website? Did you uninstall the older drivers first? It'll help us more if we know what we're working with. The Techguy System Information Tool helps us see what you have.

I just installed a nvidia GeForce 7300 gt graphic card on my computer. It all went well for a couple of hours, then the screen jammed and my monitor went ''to sleep''. Each time, I've got to disconnect the computer in order to use it again, but I can only work on it for a couple of minutes, maybe an hour, until it jams again.

When I say the screen is jamming, I mean that there are some red pixels or some lines, like if the video card was going out of order. However, I can still hear the music if I was listening to some, even when the screen goes out....

Can somebody help me? the way, before, I was using an integrated card, nvidia 6100 LE, if I remember well. I got an hp media center PC m7640n, with windows xp and service pack 3.

Thank you very much!

A:Problem with Graphic Card

How long have you had the card?

If the card is artifacting during boot-up then it's more likely a problem with the GPU itself. If the option is available to you, try using the card in another PC and if the problem persists then it's a problem with the GPU; it's either on it's last legs, or the memory modules are overheating. Using a common house fan will more often than not blow "dirty" air, which won't help you in the long run.

You'll also have to excuse me if I seem all over the place as I'm half-asleep right now.

i have a problem viewing youtube videos or flash related videos through my web browswer(IE or firefox). After viewing for 20-30 secs, the color of the video will be weird

After continued viewing, the computer freezes and brings me to the blue screen of death. Which gives me this error message - nv4_disp.dll - address BD083D35 base at BD012000, Datestamp 4c0d732d

This problem only occurs when watching flash based videos on web browsers, i do not encounter the same problem when watching normal videos/movies.

Hope that you guys will be able to help me solve this problem or let me know if it is a faulty graphic card.

Hi, I am having some issue with the laptop i just bought
Its a samsung series 7 chronos
I saw that my graphic card was Nvidia geforce gt640
But when i go to dxdiag it says INTEL GRAPHIC HD 4000
I've done the update for the nvidia graphic card but still nothing
I wanted to play slender man : the haunt but it was lagging and I didnt understand why, but now i think its because it was running on the INTel graphic HD 4000...
Is there a way that i can switch between those 2 graphic card?

A:Graphic card problem

Your laptop most likely switches between the GPU's. The Intel HD 4000 is used most of the time, but when you play a game or something that takes a lot of video processing power, the NVIDIA GPU will be used. I believe you can force this as well, in case the auto-switch isn't working. Right click on the Shortcut or the .exe of your game, go to Choose graphics processor (or something along those lines) and then select your NVIDIA GPU. My Dell XPS 15 L502X is like that--but the auto switch works just fine for me.

If it still isn't working..go to NVIDIA's website and go to their drivers page. Find your GPU in the driver section and download the latest drivers. Make sure that you do a "Clean Install" (check the little box, and do a CUSTOM install) that way any previous drivers will be removed.

A:problem with graphic card

That error has to do with the nvidia download.
Try to save to desktop then install
Try in safe mode

Rather than go to the webisite, which is the suggested way to get best drivers. Try this for now. If it works we can take our time to get one from the website

3 questions...

1. is this AGP card a plug and play device? do i need to install drivers beforehand?

2. as it has a fan on the card... does the fan have to have a power supply to it for the whole thing to work?

3. for the 4-pin power supply it needs... is it possible to add another 4-pin male onto the power supply cable... or do i need to buy a whole new power supply for my tower?

Im a little n00bish when it comes to this stuff but i do know some. I play games like HL2, BF2, Total war 2, R6:Vegas Madden 07...and more. But recently ( past week) when i play some games in the middle the screen will go checkerd and start to get all screwed up. Or it will turn bright colors and all the lines will begin towards the middle like a cone. The only way to get out of it would be to reboot. It first started with R6 vegas and only R6, now its mostly every game. I have all the latest drivers and all. Any Advice? It's driving me Crazy. Thanks guys.

A:Graphic Card Problem. HELP PLEASE!!!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I would guess either an overheating video card or an underpowered/failing psu.

Take the side panel off of your case and aim a deskfan into your case, also make sure the card`s fan is spinning correctly and it`s not caked in dust. See if that helps at all. If it doesn`t, then you can rule out overheating.

What psu do you have? Brand/wattage/amps on the 12volt rails. You can find that info one the psu label.

I don't know how to find out what software I need to download off the internet to get it to work.

processor is intel dual core

2gb ram harddisk is 600gb and nvidia geforce 9500gt 1gb

A:how to find that graphic card has a problem!?

Would help to know what games. Depending on the games it is likely noting wrong with the card other than it is too old and too slow. One thing to remember is that the 9500 GT wasn't the fast of cards when it came out 5 years ago (was only one card slower than it at the time, the 9400 GS), and struggled with most games even back then.
