Preferred Solution: Both DVD & CD burners suddenly not burning

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Thanks for the post Rick.

Unfortunately, even after converting all files to 192kbps or higher, I get the same error...

But I am mostly worried about the DVD burner not working. My drive is pretty full, and if I can't take stuff off (or back up) as needed, I am going to have an awfully hard time working.

I just got an external CD/DVD Burner. My laptop has a CD burner installed. if I want to copy an audio CD, do I have to save it on my hard drive first or can I go from burner to burner? Can someone explain how? How do I use Nero 5 to do above?

Thanks,

My Liteon SOHW-1653S has suddenly started burning v. slow - approx 2.3x [on Nero Speed] vs proper 8x - 12x. - takes 25-30 min to burn DVD instead of 8min.

System: AMD 1800
WinXP
Disks Verbatim.

Could it be drive?
Or software problem?
Win Explorer has suddenly started opening folder for drive when disk is inserted - which I'd stopped [but can't remember now how to do] to speed up things. Don't know if that's related.

Thx for any help/suggestions.

Hi I am real confused I had two drives on my computer already- one was a dvd-rom drive and the other was a cd burner I had successfully burned CD s using windows media player Realplayer and Nero Recently I thought I had upgraded by buying myself a DVD burner after I had trouble with my CD burner a couple times so now I have the DVD ROM drive and the DVD burner drive Well I can still burn CD s from media player and Realplayer but my Nero which I exclusively used to make disc-to-disc copies I haven t even figured out whether you can make a library in Nero of all your music but never bothered since I have the other players that work is being weird First let me say that I suddenly discs burning Problem Nero with am a bellydancer so I use my burner very frequently to make performance discs with mixes of songs from different cd s- I m not stealing music I use the disc-to-disc meaning one cd in one drive the blank in another feature to quickly make a copy of a cd that I want to have a back-up of like all my bellydance CD s that I don t want to carry around to use in my classes because I ve already ruined several and which I don t necessarily want Problem burning discs with Nero suddenly to load into my computer to take up space and memory Suddenly Nero will only allow me to place the disc I want to copy into the DVD BURNER create an image of what I want to copy then I have to put the blank disc in the same drive and have it burn onto there To top it all off if you say burn same project again the image is no longer there so you d have to reload the whole CD again This is certainly not Problem burning discs with Nero suddenly the timesaver it once was and I cannot understand why this is happening It makes Problem burning discs with Nero suddenly no sense HELP nbsp

A:Problem burning discs with Nero suddenly

First off, to solve the disk image being deleted.

When you start the wizard in nero, and select "Copy CD" , click on the "copy options" tab and make sure the "on the fly" option is unchecked. Then click on the "image" tab, and uncheck the "delete image file after cd copy" option on the bottom.

Next, to change the source drive, click on the "copy options" tab and select the source drive in the drop down menu.

To change change which burner your burning to, cancle the wizard, then click "recorder" off the top menu and select "choose recorder Ctl+R".

When you close Nero, these preferences will be saved, so it'll be set next time you copy a disk.

Okay - as far as I can tell, I've had nothing change on my machine save one thing. It had a hard time reading a disc, and popped the drive into PIO, which I had to change back. But, that's happened before without this effect.

Now, I can't seem to burn anything successfully, either with Nero or with XP's resident burning thingy. Any ideas about paths to follow?

My setup:
Win XP SP1
Athlon XP 2500+ (1.8 GHz)
512 MB DDR (PC 3200)
Digital Research 48x16x48 CD-RW (I know, a cheapie, but its never done this before in close to a year)

Hope someone can help!

How do I insteall A CD Burner If you already Have a cd-rom

A:Dvd?cd burners

Alright for the purpose of this im going to assume your drive that is already in there is a master, so set your new drive to be a slave and put it on the second connector on your IDE cable and then just restart windows and it should pick up on it also remember to give the drive power with the P4 connector I believe it is and everything should go smoothly.

If your having problems make sure your jumpers are in the right area, to help you better I need a little more to go off of how your drive is already set up what kind of drive your putting in IDE or SATA and your OS.

If its SATA should be just as easy as plug and play, IDE should be almost just as simple as long as you get your drivers right.

There is software out there that would copy DVD's to CDs to play in DVD players... I believe it works fine, but keep in mind you need 6 or 7 CDs(700mg) to copy 1 DVD (4+gig)

You need a DVD rom at the least to read the DVD... see if your current software has a VCD option.

To copy from DVD to DVD you will need a DVD burner.

What i am wondering is do I change the jumpers ( maybe to cable select) on my 3 burners or do I just put my spare one in as a slave on the hard drive and leave the other two alone?

A:Do CD BURNERS Die?

Everything that is made will break eventually. Not saying thats what happened though. What software are you using? try updating it on through patches. Also try a different brand of CD's.

Also shutdown all background apps using CTRL-ALT-DEL before burning to see if there's any change or try lowering the burner speed in the settings.

The computer was not recognizing the D Drive (CD). After re-booting it recognizes it, but now neither the D or E (DVD) drives work. When I put in a recorded disc the light on the drive lights up and the curser shows a disc, but it does not play. If I open Windows Media Player to play the disc, it cannot find the file. If I use Real Player it acts like it is going to work, but nothing happens. When I put a blank disc into the drive and go to properties on "My Computer" it shows that the disc does not have any free space. Even a data disc with very little date on it shows no free space. Any ideas. Thank you,

A:CD & DVD Burners

What kind of disk are you trying to play? A DVD? If so, you will have to purchase software that is specifically made for this purposes (such as Power DVD).

Also, it's correct for it to say there is no free space left on a CD or DVD if it is closed (which means, data can no longer be added to the disk).

No you should be able to fill a TV screen with your video on a DVD, don't know your particular software but I would guess you've missed a setting somewhere in it like "play full screen" you may have something like "keep original size" or "keep project settings" selected.

Well, I've bought (or friends have bought) some I/O Magic stuff before and they where just rebadged products (LiteOn, Delta, etc.) Having said that some of the stuff worked excellent and some seemed to have issues. I would verify return policy and if they let you return it if it doesn't work like you want, then give it a test. Worst that would happen is you'll return it and have to continue looking for a better option.

Of course the "Better Brands" have stricter quality control and should perform better, at least that is what one would expect, but you sometimes find some real gems in the "not so famous" corner...

I've seem some better pricing on the net for similar products though. One place to check is NEWEGG, I've never had a problem buying from them and I think they have some good deals right now...

My internal driver finally went south it was the liteon one. Had problems with it for a long time as regarding opening and closing normally. ..other than that worked just fine....now each time i put in a cd or dvd, it opens the draw again...Now i need to buy a new one and am torned wheather to get an internal one for my desktop or external...BTW, I have a net book Acer, that did not come with one.. so I was leaning towards the external type in the event i could use it on both computers, unless someone can discourage me for other reasons i am not aware of.

Both will work. Internal drives are typically faster and have fewer issues. It simply boils down to personal preference.

Howdy all...

I have a question regarding DVD/CD burning formats.
I've read somewhere before what the difference is between the plus (+) and dash (-) media was, but I can't find the site anymore.
Could someone explain this again?

Sony has come out with a new DVD +RW drive that can record on either the + or - media.
They claim speeds of 2.4X DVD +R & +RW and 4X DVD -R & 2X DVD -RW, as well 24X CD-r & 10X CD-RW.

Although it's still a lot of $$, it seems that this would be a good investment if & when the price comes down.

Thanks for any feedback

A:can i share my dvd burners?

You have to share it and have media in the device you want to read from. You cannot share and then try and burn to the media it will not work.

Was getting errors with my Khyperion DVD+RW drive and tried to update the firmware. Afterwards, every time that I would put a blank DVD in, it would only recognize it as a CD. I have tried making the drive the only one, uninstalling my burner software (all 3), uninstalling the drivers, doing a repair install of WinXP Home, swapping out IDE cables, putting the DVD on IDE channel 1, and probably a few other things. Finally, I decided that I must have fried the drive so I bought an NEC drive.

It has the same problem.

A:Problems w/DVD Burners

This is likely not it (but at least it will get your post bumped up to the top again) but have you tried different media? Sometimes you just get a bad batch of dvds.

Another thing to check is your software, roxio and some disk mounting utilities like daemon tools and others cause problems like that.

Does it still read dvds?

Hello Again:

I have a question about CD burners. I recently increased my memory, added a CD Burner (Sony 52x24x52) which comes with B's recorder Gold 5 software. I have burned a couple of audio CD's and they play fine on the computer and the new DVD player we recieved at christmas. The problem is my old cd player in my Truck and the stereo I have had since 1990 will not pay them. Does this have something to do with the format or the way that the CD's are created? Am I doing something wrong or is it just something that can't be fixed.

I have a nephew that is able to do this and his CD's pay fine on both players. I can't quite figure it out.

Thanks for your help

A:question about CD burners

Typically, this is a media issue. I find that sometimes burning at maximum speeds tends to cause some older CD players to have difficulty playing the CD's. Try changing CD media, and burning them at 4x or 8x and see if you have better luck. Of course, you do realize that CD-RW media will not play on any older audio CD players, right?

In a machine I am working on neither cd burner will read anything. I have uninstalled drivers, there is no 3rd party burner installed. What could it be?

A:Cd burners won't read anything

You will likely need to provide more information about this system before anyone can help you. What type of machine and what type of CD drives are you working on? Did they ever work or have they never worked? Have they been recently installed or have they been there working for years? What does Device Manager tell you about them? Are you able to check the actual drives and their connecting cables? With more of this type of info, you are more likely to get help for your problem.

I just installed 2 DVD burners. On MY COMPUTER, they show as a cd-rw and a dvd-rw. When I try to save a powerpoint document it says I do not have access to the drive. I tried to shrink a disc, and it said no disc, in both drives. Am I supposed to make some type of special setting when I have 2 burners??

A:New Dvd Burners Not Always Recognized

What are the makes/models of the drives? I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not, but are you running IDE133 drivers on IDE100 channels? My guess would be that could cause a few problems.

I can get a retail Sony DRU-500A for around $350 with shipping and everything included.

My question is, are DVD burners worth it now? This particular model can burn DVD-/+R and DVD-/+RW as well as CD-R and CD-RW. This model is also very hard to find, so I'm thinking that the price may not drop for a while if supply is still short.

What do you guys think? Is it wise to invest in a DVD burner now?

Are CD ROM Burners locked in to the software they come with or if for say you see a great deal on a new one at the local store and it cones with software thats different than what your currently used too, (Adaptec), can you buy the burner and apply your software from your other cd burner. This is for my wives computer and I don't want to learn to softwares.

A:Cd Rom Burners Vs. Software

Well, you wouldn't legally be able to use the same license for the Adaptec software on two computers. You'd need to buy another copy.

Other than that, there should be no problem with it working, provided it's up-to-date and supports the drive you're buying. I'm not sure about the newer EZ-CD Creator, but the older versions had a stored list of compatible drives, and if your drive wasn't on the list, it wouldn't work. Adaptec does release updates from time to time to add newer drives.

Most cd burning software is similar enough that you shouldn't have much, if any, problem learning a new package. You might also look around for a different drive. There are plenty that come with Adaptec software. I think I just saw a 24x Philips (or maybe it was Yamaha?) drive for about $150.00 that has Adaptec.

2.) What is the cheapest one you've seen?

3.) Is it easy to install?

Removing it through Device Manager isn't necessary, but not harmful either. DVD burners will be automatically recognized and installed generic drivers for, so you pretty much only have to power down and dis-/connect the cables, nothing else.

I know the basics, but based on my general understanding I am confused as to why a burning projects seems to start spinning slowly, then accelerate after a few minutes. As far as I have ever heard -
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/cd-burner2.htm
for example - the disc is read/written from the inside out.

If that is the case, then the spin rate should be highest at the beginning and decelerate as the laser moves outward. But then why does a burn start quietly, then get louder and sound like the spinning rate has increased after several minutes? Is is related to the directory architecture being more complex to write than the data itself perhaps and needing a slower spin rate to achieve properly? Anyone know? Just curious.

A:How do burners work exactly?

Wiki Quote :- Theoretical versus practical writing speed
Almost all of the modern CD/DVD burning software support selection of the speed at which the portable disc is written to. However, the option a user choses only defines the theoretical maximum of disc burning process.
There are other factors that influence the time taken for a disc to be written to:Resources available to the program: Reading or writing data on a disc consumes moderate to high level of system resources (including memory and CPU resources), and running other programs at the same time may force the CD/DVD drive to choose a lower speed automatically, to accommodate with the available resources.
Disc quality: Optical disc recorders detect the available speed options based on the data which is available on the disc itself; however, some low quality discs make a high speed option available to the software, while the burning process can never reach that speed in act.
The reading and writing process does not happen at a steady speed. Both CD and DVD store data with constant linear velocity, so outer tracks contain more data per radian than inner tracks. During reading and writing, data flow speed varies based on the position of the laser under the disc.Click to expand...

A:Solved: dvd burners

They're simply different standards. Although the disks physically look the same to you, they do not look the same to the drive. Almost all new DVD burners are compatible with both the + and - formats. However, if you have a + only burner, you can only use DVD+RW and DVD+R disks. No way around it.

Hello,
I have just installed Windows Vista on my laptop, and my external DVD burner and virtual drive (Demon) appeared to work fine until I have plugged in a bunch of USB devices into it, now the problem is that whenever I start my laptop, Demon says it failed to load the drive and when I try to use the DVDs and CDs in my external DVD drive, the computer just stop responding, I checked the memory usage and so on and everything appeared to be normal.
I used to read somewhere that this problem seemed to be caused by the "overcrowding of interrupt values" or something along that line and can be fixed by changing a registry value, but I can not remember how to change it.
Could anyone please enlighten me?
Thanks!

You can buy 20X and I believe 22X discs. They are rather more expensive and therefore harder to find. I can buy a spindle of 50 Memorex 16X DVD+R Discs for $14.99 or less at Office Depot, and they carry 20X Memorex Discs for $17.99 for a 25 pack. I stick with 16X

Does anyone have any ideas about what kind of DVD Burner I could get that could be supported by a Celeron (R) 2.4 GHZ processor. I'm looking for an external dvd burner that I can use to read and burn dvd's. My operating system is Windows XP Home Edition.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Advice on DVD Burners

Pioneer, LG and Benq are good brands. I'd avoid NEC and Lite-on (cheaply made).

Lately it would seem that i am unable to burn cds with any sort of cd burner. I first used a BenQ External CD-RW and today purchased a Sony internal CD-R/RW. I attempted to burn a cd using both Nero 6 and WMP 10 and was unsuccesful. The files convert fine but when the burner begins to spin it quickly dies down again and burning ends telling me that i should insert a different CD. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

A:Problems with CD Burners

Dont know if this really matters, but are you using CD+R discs instead of CD-R?

All,

Wanted to know what DVD/CD burners I could use with my HP Pavilion a410n. I tried installing my mother's DVD burner but the system didn't recognize anything new was in it. Can I only use what HP recommends because there are cheaper and faster optical drives for IDE port. (My computer doesn't have SATA connections) Thanks everyone

A:What IDE port DVD\CD burners can I use with my PC?

First of all check if the jumper is in the right place as if you put HDD Master and DVD Drive Master the HDD will be taken primarily. So easier to do remove the jumper and let the BIOS place it itself.

1. hi im looking for a good dvd burner thats internal. my external one just broke and i want to save some money on a new one. if anyone knows a good one that is white (cuz my comp is white) and is $50 or less that is reliable. also another question. my computer is an old Dell Dimension Desktop 4100 with a P3 processor at 933 MHz and 512 RAM. One of my cd drives on it broke and i am going to replace the broken one with the new one. so my question is can my computer damage new components that i add? thanks

2. also i have a PNY Attache USB drive and i was wondering why it takes two times to recognize it in the usb port and my brothers is a Memorex and it only takes one time. i tried it on both of my computers and it does the same thing. thanks!

A:Internal DVD Burners & USB Drive

I can't imagine why your computer would damage an added drive if it's working normally. I've had good luck with the Pioneer and NEC DVD burners here.

For the USB issue, try this driver reset and see if that helps.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- cut after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- cut before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

My pc is setup for sata primarily. But I installed an IDE burner on cable select to use for copying and such. But the problem is in device manager under storage controllers there is an alert that says AU15LMOM IDE controller. I cannot find this driver, should I try just using the other ide connector on the board? or does someone know a place to get this driver I need. My bios is already setup to use both sata and ide so that shouldn't be a problem. Any help is appreciated!

Just wondering why the SATA DVD burners cost so much more than an IDE of the same caliber... is the price worth the benifits? I saw a plextor with and IDE interface for 75 and an SATA for 114... What gives on the markup?

Not that I want to buy a plextor just using it as an example.

I am thinking about purchasing a Lite-On dvd burner for my tv. I've read they only record in mono. Is there anyone of them that record in stero?

A:question about Lite-On dvd burners for your tv.

Purchase one that records in stereo, there are many. I would probably avoid Lite-On. Pioneer would be (is) my choice.

I was wondering i always hear people say about dvd burners so my question is i have something i burn cds/vcds with how do i find out if this is a dvd burner.Or is there really no difference with the two.

A:Question about dvd drives/burners

A DVD burner is not the same as a CD burner. VCD is just a video format intended to be burned to CD media.

What is the make/model of your burner, look in Device Manager and tell us what it says.

I recently bought a refurbished HP , Pentium 4, CPU: 3.00GHz 2GB Ram. (1GB was installed after purchase, but problem existed before that)
XP Media Center v2002 (OEM) sp3

The internal drive is:

ATAPI DVD A DH20A1P

Everything seemed to be working fine until I tried burning files. I have a
Sony 18X DVD RW DRU-8408 plug n play external burner. Device manager sees all the drives and says they are all working properly. None of the applications I've tried to burn with see the burner(s).

The system came with Net frame 1.0.3705. In automatic updates, MS installed 1.1.4322. Some of these apps required Net Frame 2.0. Thinking this was the problem, I installed Net Framework 2.0.50727. It made no difference, the apps are not recognizing either drive.

One other ? How do I find whether the system is 32 or 64 bit?

Thank you for suggestions, feedback, etc.. I need all the help I can get.

A:DVD burners not being recognized by apps

What software are you using? Some burner programs are OEM and designed for specific burners and won't recognize it unless you get a full version. You can try to update the Fiirmware to have it recognize more discs. Try http://www.imgburn.com/

I have a couple questions for. I got a 52 times CD burner for x-mas but was thinking of upgrading to a DVD burner. I would have to pay about 200.00 dollars more for the upgrade. Do you think it is worth it? The guy at the store said you can't burn store bought DVD's. Is that true or can you get around the anti-copy process.

Thank you very much for answering I appreciate your input
