Faulty Mouse Wheel

Q: Faulty Mouse Wheel

I didn't know mice had evolved that far

Anyway, i bought a new Logitech LX3 at the weekend, great thing, but the scroll wheel is odd.
When scrolling down, the movement is erratic and slow, and in Oblivion, I have 'clicking in' set to 'Cast' but it also zooms out my character.
Movement up is slightly better but still quite erratic.
I removed the Logitech software but that didnt make a difference.

Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got an optical mouse with a scroll wheel for Christmas last year and the scroll wheel won't work on anything (IE, Compuserve, Netscape).
It has no brand name anywhere on the mouse so I can't look for a new driver. It came from Office Depot and it has no disk/CD. When I plugged it in it did not load anything else and I tried Add/Remove Hardware, but it didn't find anything new. Is there anything else I can do?

A:Mouse Wheel and Clicking the Mouse makes my screen go wacky!

Keyboards are very cheap, try a new one and save yourself lots of grief. Chances are the matrix circuit has some foreign goop on it that's conducting just well enough to make certain keys seem to be pushed, especially under varying humidity conditions.

The mouse is only doing what mice do when the certain keys are depressed so it's probably not at fault.

You could try blowing the keyboard out with compressed air but I wouldn't waste too much time on such a low dollar item.

Good luck.

I bought an old compaq presario computer at a school auction for $1.00 and gave it to my daughter. Everything works. It is 166 MHz and has Windows 95. She bought an HP wheel mouse at a yard sale. The mouse and mouse buttons work, but not the wheel. I do not know what driver I need or how to obtain a copy. I have a NEC Ready 9840 computer updated from Windows 95 to Windows 98se and a Logitech wheel mouse. Is there a driver on my system I can download to her's to get the hp mouse working?Does anyone know where I can obtain a driver for this, or does it sound like there is another problem? I'm on winxp home using the built in drivers. My mouse is an hp that came with my computer.

Anyone else every had this problem, and anyone know how to fix it?

A:Mouse wheel annoyances

Yea, I have that problem with my mouse, but I think it's just because I don't scroll it up or down enough sometimes, so when I go to scroll again, it moves slightly up or down, triggering the scroll. Or maybe it's just a driver thing, have you checked if there are any updated drivers for your mouse?

Oh, and mine only does the up-before-down part, but it always works either way...maybe there's some dust inside it or something?

I got a wheel mouse (from the markets) that I can't take back. I found it was a ps2 mouse and I have a serial mouse connection at back. I bought a CA60 Adaptor (mouse to PS2 or 100% compatible PC.)and added it to ps2 mouse.

When I tried to install it with software floppy disc I could not and the computer even went into safe mode. I told the program it was a serial mouse.

I have totally removed it for now, but wanted to have it to use. I wanted to know the right steps so I don't cause some catastrophe.

I have win98.

Well, I'm afraid I don't have good news for you.

There is no "generic" adapter for that. You have to get one made for your mouse. One made for another brand is likely to not work (as you have seen).

I'm having a very unusual problem with one of our computers.

We have 3 computers which all have the same hardware in but for some reason one of them is having an odd mouse wheel scrolling issue where it basically wont stop scrolling. I have tried lots of combinations of mice and keyboards and still having the issue.

I decided to reformat and it seemed fixed, after installing the ATI drivers for my ATI 3870 it started doing it again. So I unistalled them, t started working, and then installed the Omega ATI drivers just incase and it started scrolling again by itself.

Would appreciate any ideas on this!

Thanks, Martin

Whenver I scroll down a page with the mouse scroller, it takes me back to previous web pages I have already explored, instead of doing its job and scrolling down the page. It never did that till recently. I have always been able to scroll down pages in IE with no problem. Could this be a hijacker virus or something else??

Must be a setting somewhere that got changed.

I had gotten another mouse at the same time--on sale. The wheel doesn't function on either one, so it had to be a setting somewhere.

A:USB mouse wheel not working

go into the mouse settings and change the action of the wheel to see if it works for a different action, if it does reselect your original action.
If that doesn't work, uninstall the logitech drivers from add/remove programs and reboot. Windows will have drivers for the mouse so it will still work. Does the wheel work with windows drivers?.(it may have a different action to the one you picked but something should work with it)
If it does then re-installing(if you want) the logitech drivers should sort it.
If it doesn't then it must be the mouse. Try it on another computer to be sure.

A:Mouse Wheel Will Not Scroll

One place to visit is in the Control Panel>Mouse section where you go over to the Wheel tab and try adjusting one or more of the settings and click the apply button to see if any immediate change is noticed.

In the Device Manager there which you might want to visit first you look under "Human Interface Devices" as well as the "Mouse and other pointing devices" items to see if the replacement mouse has been detected properly. It does seem odd however that the scroll wheel wouldn't work automatically unlike what you would see when swapping for a mouse with programmable buttons where you then need more then just a mouse driver but the software that goes with it.

I haven't seen that problem but had a few questions.

1) Does it happen in ALL applications(explorer, word, etc) or in one specific application usually?

2) Did you install a new application about the time the problem started?

3) Did you install any new hardware about the time the problem started?

and a few suggestions.

Try going into "My Computer, Properties, Performance, Graphics" and lowering the slider bard down a click to see if it helps.

Make sure you have the latest drivers from

Alright, so I just built a new desktop and have Windows 7 running on it.

I got a Microsoft Wireless Media Desktop 1000 keyboard and mouse combo to use on it. So far it works great - with one issue. When I view an image in Windows Photo Viewer, if I scroll up once, it zooms in by a HUGE amount, somewhere around 600% magnification. It never did this with my old mouse, and this is really annoying as it's completely impractical and I don't ever need to zoom in that far.

Thinking it was IntelliPoint's fault, I uninstalled that, and the problem persists. It works a bit better as a generic HID compliant mouse though... since IntelliPoint removed the scroll settings - so I couldn't tell it how many lines to scroll at once. And it set the value to 11, yeowch!

Does anyone have any experience with super-zooming on the photo viewer and what I might do to fix it?

Okay well this just started like 2 days ago.

I bought the MS Wheel Mouse Optical last fall (2003) and worked fine until 2 days ago. My mouse started to just shut down on me in random intervals. By this I mean the infrared totally goes out and can't use it until I unplug the mouse and replug it in(it isn't wireless, so nothing to do with batteries or anything like that).

I've done thorough virus scans using the Norton 2004 Professional several times and nothing was picked up.

Before this problem began I had d/l updates for my Norton and my Steam, dunno if those had anything to do with it.

But I'm really getting annoyed cause my mouse just shuts down on me in random intervals and I have to unplug = replug it to make it work for who knows how long until it shuts down again...

You're help would be much appreciated. Thanks =).

A:Mouse scroll wheel problem

This might sound stupid but try this for troubleshooting reasons: Open Firefox to any page such as this forum. Now resize the firefox window so that part of the desktop shows. Click once on any open portion of the desktop. Nothing should happen. Now try using the wheel to scroll down the web page. Again, nothing should happen. Now try clicking on a blank area on the firefox web page. Any area without an ad or link should do. Now try scrolling down. Does it scroll? If so, theres nothing wrong with your mouse. If you still can't get the scroll wheel to work, then go to control panel. In there should be a mouse icon. Open it and tell me if there is a tab that says "wheel"

Sometimes I think I must have an alter ego who is intent on screwing up my life because I get on my computer and suddenly its doing weird stuff I never wanted it to do.

Here lately, a lot of times when I just want to scroll down the page, it ends up zooming into letters so small I can't read, or conversely too large.

How is this happening and how can I stop it other than handcuff myself if I'm doing it in my sleep and sabotaging myself.

Okay, I don't really think I'm doing that but sometimes it seems that way.

Right now the print on my screen is miniscule ..... I want control of my computer back help please!

A:Why / How to stop zooming with mouse wheel

Hi kcsummer -

The first basic thing to ask is, are you pressing down too hard on the mouse wheel ??
Next have you been to Control Panel and checked your mouse settings for the scroll wheel ??

Sorry but those are the 2 quick answers for a start -

My mouse wheel is causing a noise during scrolling. The noise is like a ball bearing needs lubricants badly.

It is a Logitech K260 Keyboard/mouse combo.

Is there a way to minimize/reduce/stop it?

A:Mouse wheel generting noise.

Is the noise just coming from the mouse or through your speakers ?
If just the mouse sounds like a defect :/

You could get some clear machine oil and try to put a drop on each side of the wheel ?
Or send the sucker back.

my computer wont recognize when i push on the scroll wheel. the scrolling works fine but when i push it nothing happens, for example when trying to 'auto-scroll' or in any game that has an action assigned to that button.

is this an issue with a driver or the hardware itself. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and that didn't fix it. i cant think of anything else to do.
any suggestions?

A:Sidewinder mouse wheel won't click any more

First thing I would have suggested you have already done: Uninstall and then reinstall.

Do they have any updated drivers? If so try that and if that doesn't work then you may correct in your suspicion that this is a hardware issue.

Good Evening guys.

I have a problem here that has been bothering me for quite a while now...
I have a Silvercrest OM1008-M mouse, it has a lot of buttons and it is pretty nice. I used to use it in my desktop but I sold the desktop and kept the mouse. When I tried to use the mouse in my laptop I noticed my scroll wheel doesn't work, immediately installed the latest drivers and it even has a place to configure all the different buttons including the wheel, but even with everything properly configured the scroll wheel still doesn't work in Chrome, FFox, Word, etc. BUT it works with the volume!! that's right, every time I scroll up or down the volume changes, so I know it is not broken! lol any ideas? thank you VM

ps: win 7 32

A:Mouse Wheel driving me crazy

Always try the source first: OM1008_manual

At first glance - volume is the default for the wheel. I'm sure they have a way to change the buttons and wheel settings so you can do with it as you wish.

Good luck

Is it me or does this bother you as well

When I click on an item inthe navigation pane and want to scroll down to a certain folder in the main window, the mouse wheel stays on the nav pane. Have to go and click in the main window to scroll.

If you click the navigation pane, then the wheel should in my opinion default over to scroll on the main pane. It's a little bothersome to have to keep clikckingto scroll after i just cliked to open that item in the navitgation pane already.

confused yet? maybe the pic will better describe it. I know it's not a big deal, but......

Like in the pic i clicked on music folder in the left nav pane, i would want it to scroll over on right without having to click mouse again. Maybe it's a matter of preference, but that's mine.

A:navigation pane and mouse wheel

I agree, I find that annoying as well, I think it would be better if it would just scroll on whatever window or pane that your mouse is over.

Sometimes the image on the screen jitters up and down with each detent in the wheel instead of scrolling in the same direction. I have not noticed this when scrolling down, only when scrolling up. If it is just the wheel that is making things jump I would think you have garbage inside and arround the wheel sensor. Over time junk gets down there. If you can you may have to dissassemble the mouse and look at the wheel sensor.

Does anyone know the best way to disable the mouse wheel on an Access 2003 form?

A:Access 2003 and Mouse Wheel

I have never tried to turn the mouse wheel off but I have used some special code to get the mouse wheel to scroll through the text in a text box on a form

I cannot remember where I got that code but when I was looking to see where I might have found it, I instead found:

Which appears might address your question. The code it contains is nearly identical to the code I've used to to make the mouse wheel scroll through the text boxs.

The thing about the solution above is that they tell you to make a .dll using VB 6.

Apparently you don't need to do that. As I said, what I've done before is nearly identical to the support article from microsoft.

But, instead of creating a DLL in VB6, I simply put that code that they say to put into a DLL into a class module (named CMouseWheel) within Access. Then in the form code instead of referencing
"MouseWheel.CMouseWheel" everywhere, I simply refer to "CMouseWheel"

Its been a while since I did this so I don't remember the ins and outs well at all but I do remember was it wasn't that hard to figure it out how it worked once I had the example in front of me

Good luck

Hello there!

I recently, about 2 weeks ago, got the same problem Aolish described in a post 2 years ago.(Can't link because I don't have 5posts yet)

The scroll wheel has it own life and scrolls by itself, mostly down but also up sometimes.

I've opend my mouse, cleaned it, removed the wheel and cleaned it etc. But the problem is still there.

I wonder if you (Aolish) managed to fix the problem with your MX518. If you did, I'd really appreciate if you could tell me how you did.
Because this problem is really annoying.

If anyone else had the same problem, or know how to fix this problem, feel free to post anything that can for help. All help is really appreciated.

But if it's not fixable, I'll have to start looking for a new mouse.

Thx in advance, fikapaus.

Hi, I recently bought a Dell optiplex GX620, running XP pro and I'm using a Logitech cordless click plus mouse with it. Everything works fine except for one problem I cannot seem to correct. There is one solitary program, Scriptware (screenwriting software), which will not respond to the mouse wheel. My previous desktop was also an Optiplex running XP Home, and the same mouse was completely functional in Scriptware. I have tried managing the individual program settings using the Setpoint Logitech driver, but that doesn't work. I also tried uninstalling Setpoint and using a Microsoft intellipoint driver, but no luck. The truth is I don't need any of these drivers for the mouse to work fine in virtually every program, but I just can't find a driver that will prevent this conflict from plaguing me! Thanks for any suggestions you guys might have!

When I boot into Win8, the scroll wheel on my MS trackball scrolls 20 lines for each click, that is too much.
