GTX 970 SLI, Radeon 290X CF or Single GTX 980 for 1440p (120Hz)

Q: GTX 970 SLI, Radeon 290X CF or Single GTX 980 for 1440p (120Hz)

Hi everyone,

I seriously need some perspective. I've ordered an Overlord Tempest X270 OC 1440p monitor. I'm trying to decide between:

1. 2x XFX R9 290X (CrossFire)
2. 2x nVidia GTX 970 (MSI/Asus Strix) (SLI)
3. Single nVidia GTX 980 PNY XLR8 Pro OC

Other parts are:

EVGA 850 G2
Intel Core i5 4690K
Asus Maximus VII Hero
GSkill Trident 16GB
Intel 730 Series SSD (480 GB)

Have been reading up a lot but am finding it hard to choose. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: GTX 970 SLI, Radeon 290X CF or Single GTX 980 for 1440p (120Hz)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: GTX 970 SLI, Radeon 290X CF or Single GTX 980 for 1440p (120Hz)

Only the first two options will get you to 120 fps on any game made within the last few years. I have a machine with an i7 and 970 SLI and a machine with an i7 and an EVGA 980 Superclock and at 2560x1440 only the 970s can manage... and not all the time. Most of the time I set my monitor refresh to 100Hz because there's a much greater chance that my cards can get me there.

I don't have any AMD GPUs atm so can't say about that but I will say that I've had one hell of a time getting XFX to honor their warranties in the past.

im looking at buying this: Akasa PowerMax 850W from here

Would this be sufficiant? im lost on all this stuff now, cheers for the help.

A:dual monitors on a single output through an ati radeon x200?

You need a video card with two outputs .. or maybe two video cards.
A splitter won't do you any good.
Better have a strong computer for several Adobe's running.

I use a full hd 27 inch monitor but I fancy something a little sharper. Is 4K worth it for office and web browsing or would the 1440P be more suitable? I would be limited to 27-28 size. An IPS panel or equivalent would help the sharpness.

A:1440P or 4K

I'm on a Samsung U28D590D. 28", UHD (3840 X 2180). It's only TN, but it was a relatively cheap monitor that does 60 Hz. I'm not sure that an IPS or one of the other technologies would be sharper. Better uniformity and wider viewing angles, probably.

I like the extra real estate. Some applications (like Photoshop CS6) don't scale well: the icons are well defined but tiny. It's good fro web browsing, but dual monitors might be better for office applications.

Hi I'm planing to change my graphic card. Currently I have GTX570 (Palit) and I want to buy r9 290x from MSI. I don't know if I have to change PSU:
And if my mainboard will support this card:
Also CPU:

If PSU isn't enough what You propose to look for, and is MSI really that good as they say?

Thanks for any help. Darek

A:Will this run r9 290x?

Your cpu is no issue at all; its good to go. While you don't mention it 8 gigs of RAM for gaming is a good standard but if you only have 4 you should be okay.

The video card you list is PCI-e 3.0 and your board is designed for 2.0 BUT that card should be backwards compatible.

As for power, from what I have read, the card will demand between 250-300 watts. As for the quality of MSI they make good cards but like any hardware manufacture they will ship out some defective models.

I getting a 1440p monitor in a couple of days and I have 2 gtx 670 from gigabyte factory overclocked windforce edition.
Are the cards capable of playing games on ultra settings with 1440p res?(like battlefield 4,crysis 3 and batman)

A:1440p with 2xsli gtx 670

two GTX 670's at 1440p should be able to handle BF4 at ultra but I'm not sure at 60 fps due to your cards having 2gb of VRAM as BF4 is VRAM intensive at 1440p and i noticed you mentioned Crysis 3 at 1440p crysis 3 is more vram intensive at 1440p than any other game I have ever played not to mention performance wise it isn't all that great, I can't promise you 60 fps constantly but I can say it should be a smooth experience.

I want to know that the panel of ASUS VX24AH is IPS or TN ??
And I have another question :
Can HDMI1.4 get 60HZ in 1440P ??

A:HDMI 1.4 and 1440p

According to the specs on the Asus website it's IPS:
Panel Type : In-Plane SwitchingClick to expand...

As for the 1440p over HDMI 1,4, you'll have to try and see if it works. The monitor does support 1440p over HDMI but some video cards will not and limit it to 1080p, you can sometimes create a custom resolution, most new ones should go to 1440p/60Hz over HDMI.

I built my computer almost a year ago now, I got a new psu and gpu. I got a CX600 power supply, and an R9 290x. For whatever reason my computer pretty much died today, and I'm not sure what caused it. I did however find that when I took out the 290x the computer occasionally started, but as soon as the 290x went back in, nothing. I know it's not the power supply, because when I try to turn on the PC, anything that's powered from the psu (like the fans) start (including odd?!). Thank you to whoever thinks they can help.

A:Death By R9 290x?

The cx line from corsair is NOT intended for any type of gaming, overclocking or other stressful endeavor. It is for a basic build ONLY ie onboard video, running office programs, etc. Even corsair says it is for a basic system only;
Running a R9 and a corsair cx is just asking for a problem.

This means absolutely nothing. It is very possible to have one failed voltage rail in a pw supply and the others work allowing you to pw a fan.
The very first thing to do is to install a quality pw supply capable of pw your system. Good ie recommended brands; corsair [ax, hx or rm models ONLY] seasonic, antec [only the HCG models] or FSP [only units with the 5yr warranty]

I'd love to ask anyone out there with the above mention setup, how it really performs in game and in idle. Power consumption both idle and load. FPS in high end games, noise, heat and overclock performance. Furthermore is crossfire working without issues (I mean if its supported by the game).

Thanks for any legit info. I'm currently on team green but had enough of ngreedias corporate bollocks. So I just might switch to team RED. Never had any AMD product.

What do you guys think I should do get the R9 290X when it comes out or wait for the 790 to get released? Money isn't exactly a issue here but from what I have seen from a comparison site for graphics cards it could be that the 790 is almost double what the R9 290X is but then again it could be complete lies.

Anyone got any info on what kind of specs the 790 will be? The R9 290X seems it would be cheaper but I just cant tell if the R9 290X is pretty much a 7990 thanks to the naming schemes. Thats the site I saw online when doing searches for 790 vs R9 290X as I wanted to see if anyone had any discussions about them both but couldn't find much.

Hey guys,

I have decided I am going to leave the world of 1080p. I am looking to get a Korean 1440p for hopefully ~$300. I have been doing some research and have narrowed down the field to these two Crossover monitors:

1. Perfect Pixel Crossover 2795 QHD Ahips LED 27" 2560x1440 LG IPS Monitor Matte | eBay

2. Perfect Pixel Crossover 27QHD IPS LED 27" 2560x1440 LG s IPS PC Monitor Glossy | eBay

I think I have accounted for most factors, but I am still a little confused about some nuances here and there such as the impact of matte vs. gloss, AHIPS, and overclocking potential.

Does anyone have any recommendations on either one of these two or another one I should consider? Thank you for any and all help in this matter.

A:Looking to get a Korean 1440p Monitor (Help)

You don't want a glossy panel, so that solves that.

Overclocking potential relies on the panel itself and is a gamble. They say 100hz but it could be 75, it could be 85, you never know until you get it.

Both are LG IPS panels so more than likely using the same panel with a different coating, just take note that these only utilize a single DVI-D DL port.

Just a heads up, but Newegg sells a similar panel and an Acer for similar cost if you don't want to take the risk on a Korean panel having dead pixels.

Hi, I currently have a Samsung P2450 and I love it (24"/1080p), is there a 1440p upgrade that won't break the bank?

A:Looking for a 1440p monitor upgrade

1440p is pretty hard not to break the bank still but I can offer a few suggestions:

27" QNIX 2560x1440p $349 (This contains a Samsung Panel inside 8ms response time)

27" Crossover 2560x1440p $329 (Has a better response time to the one above 6ms response time)

27" Yamakasi Catleap 2560x1440p $379 (6ms Response, this brand has some of the best reviews)

Name brands like Samsung and Acer cost a lot more, these get good reviews and are just fine for use. They all have decent reviews, yet the Yamakasi's from the newegg site always seems to have the most 5 star reviews and get good feedback. No matter what, your going to be limited in your choices in this area if you can pay a fortune lol. They are still in the Luxury price point range in my book until they hit below 300.

Hope this gives you an idea!

According to those specifications, these are the comparisons- I doubt the card like any other boost assisted board will spend much time at its base frequency, so the lower number can be largely disregarded:

Single precision (theoretical): 4505.6 Teraflops at base clock, 5632 at max boost (as comparison GTX 780: 3978 base/4147 boost and Titan at 4500 base/4709 boost)

Pixel fillrate (theoretical): 35200 - 44000 MPixels/sec ( GTX 780: 41424-43296 and Titan: 40176-42048)
Texture fillrate (theoretical): 140800-176000 MTexels/sec (GTX 780: 165696-173184 and Titan 187488-196672)

7299 Swedish kroner equates to 843 Euro (somewhat higher than the GTX 780 on the same site but substantially lower than Titan) so maybe that BF4 package includes a free mercenary.

However, if I try to set a game to 1080p (which is different from windows resolution, so Nvidia settings seem to have no effect on it through the control panel), like Star Citizen or for testing purposes Fallout 4 / Arma 3, the colors turn very washed out and grey. The monitor is connected via Displayport. The components used in the build are all from top notch brands. Higher resolutions work fine. Might it have something to do with windows resolution? Hi guys,
I recently downloaded a video that was 1440p (and then the same one that was 2160p) from youtube using Ummy video downloader 2.1. It's MP4 format and when I try to watch it on Windows Media Player (I'm not sure what exact version I have) it only plays the audio for it and no visuals except for a blue/black-ish background and a musical note in a box in the center. At the very bottom left of the screen under the progress bar there's a small little rectangle that has moving "))))))))))" and when I hover over it, it says either "Network is too busy to play file at original quality" or "playing at 254 kbps".
Is there a way to change the settings or update my WMP? Or is there another video player out there that will allow me to watch these ultra HQ videos?

Windows 7 doesn't show bluescreens unless you disable the automatic restart option, otherwise it simply restarts.

But most importantly the reason there are two power connectors on the video card is because they are absolutely needed. You need to plug in both as the card draws around 300 watts of power and needs both connectors to get that.

Lastly you bought the wrong power supply. You bought Corsair's office PC power supply and not a gaming or enthusiast class power supply and it's slightly underpowered for running a gaming system with a 290X. Depending on who's recommendation you look at the minimum should be a 600 watt but XFX recommends a 750 watt for some of their 290X models.

I'm buying an lcd tv within the next few days.

What kind of difference in viewing pleasure will I notice between the 60 and 120hz lcd tvs.

I already have hd setup through my provider. Just need a little help with this. Any help is appreciated.

A:60hz vs 120hz?

There are some pretty neat things about 120hz displays. First, you don't have to worry about 3:2 pulldown since all you have to do is display each unique frame 5 times (24*5=120). This gives your video a certain smoothness (you probably won't see it from your cable box) that is hard to explain in words - you just have to see it. You'll need a good source though, bluray or hd-dvd.

Some people complain about the look of such sources on a 120hz display because it makes everything look like it was filmed with a camcorder. It's very noticable to me, but a few people I've had look can't tell the difference at all. I suggest you go to a store and see how you feel about it first hand - and make sure they hook up a decent source when you do this testing.

I'm using an LCD screen that has an inbuilt DVD player. I guess it's basically a T.V. but I use it for my PC.

I've got my resolution set to 1600x1024 and Windows 7 tells me that I can go up 120hz, but when I choose it the input is not supported.

I understand that VGA Monitors can't support 120hz, but I'm wondering why it says I can use it?

My NVIDIA control panel says I can go up to 85hz, however.

The lower I set my resolution = the more hertz Windows tells me I can use, but I still can't use more than 85hz.

Anyone able to explain this to me? Thanks.

No DMP files included in upload please try this method
We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

A:Gaming PC monitor, IPS or 120hz?

120HZ: Amazing in FPS games. Only 'works' if you give it more than 60fps from your GPU, which with a GTX670 you'll be pushing it in the latest games..

Games look really fluid on 120Hz and are more responsive to mouse movement. They are also only 24inch 1920x1080 resolution.

IPS: They look really pretty, have amazing colors, have wide viewing angles. Usually are limited to 60Hz (Yamakasi Catleap OC ones go higher), have a lot wider variety of recolutions and sizes.

Configuration: CRT-Display/Graphics-Card combination running so far with Windows XP at 100Hz and 120Hz.

Latest Drivers for Graphics Card installed ? and the Monitor is also correctly recognized under it's official name and manufacturer.

Problem: highest possible and selectable frequency with Windows 8 is 85Hz (and not 100Hz/120Hz (depending on screen size) as in Windows XP) ...

How to set 100Hz and 120Hz as in WinXP (with same screen sizes)?

A:Not more than 85Hz with CRT Display able to run 100/120Hz

Is there a reason you're still holding onto CRT displays? They've been out of production/out of style for a good 4~6 years now and are quite limited in resolution and aren't widescreen. That said, 85Hz should be plenty speedy enough as it is. If you can't select higher, it's probably because windows or your graphics card have not detected higher. Are you using proper drivers? You may need a driver for your monitor (there's a few cases where this is necessary and CRTs are connected via an analog VGA cable, which does even less to communicate information back to the PC about the monitor's capabilities). If you're using nVidia, you could also try setting a custom resolution with the refresh rate in mind, and see if it takes it.

I've never seen a person using a CRT with any machine that can run Vista, 7, or 8 so I don't know if perhaps they limited the selectable refresh rate to 85hz in the post-XP era...

A:Where are the 120hz LCD PC monitors @ 2550res

Good luck, 'cos it's not happening.
2560x1600/1440 is strictly the province of 60Hz. Dual link DVI -the connectivity for most (if not all) 2560x 1440/1600 screens (27-30") would probably run into bandwidth problems trying to provide 120Hz 32-bit colour at that resolution.
You may want to revise your budget and/or make a compromise in either size, resolution or functionality.
Dell U2711 (2560x1440) $1099 for a 27" (60Hz though), Sharp Aquos 32" HDTV (120Hz, but 1920x1080) for $680, or something along the lines of this Acer (23.6", 120Hz, but again 1920x1080)

I recently bought a 120hz monitor Viewsonic VX9968wm and [COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]nvidia[/COLOR][/COLOR] 3D vision. The issue is that whenever i select 120hz for the display, the screen gets all distorted. The text becomes unreadable and the whole screen looks a mess. But while playing games, i can get the stereoscopic effect and all, but not in videos. When running in 60hz, the display is very good. only when i shift to 120hz then it goes all wrong. I have the DVI-D cable and even bought two to make sure if its the problem.Does anybody else have this problem???....Please help me out with your suggestions....My specs are Core i7 with Palit GTX 295 card....\

Below, I have included the image of my problem:
http:[email protected]/5529458657

A:120hz resolution issues

I think that's normal, your games are 3-D capable so when you swtich to 120hz then it can use 60hz for one signal and 60hz for the other signal. Videos and regualar display are not 3-D capable, there is just one signal so at 120 hz its just going to distort.
This differs from 120 hz HDTVs where the signal is the same 60hz (or very close to it) but the HDTV interpolates that signal, placing a made up frame inbetween two real frames, its not actually driving the signal at 120hz....except for 3-D televisions which have the same capability as your Viewsonic if they receive a sterioscopic signal.

A:Monitor advice -- 120Hz worth it for gaming?

The 670 will be able to give you those 120 fps in less demanding games, however you may end up turning the quality and resolution down for the more demanding titles (such as Crysis 3). So you have a choice, sacrifice image quality for more fluid game-play, or get an IPS monitor, which will give you much superior color, but you'll have to live with 60 fps. (In my opinion, 60fps is enough, although that's a matter of opinion)

Sorry, I don't have the answer since 120Hz monitors are new. I take it is supports 120Hz inputs as opposed to upconverting 60Hz signals as a 120Hz TV does? Does it require the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit, or only to play games in 3D? In googling, I see it uses a special DVI cable, I'm assuming you are using that? I bought this laptop specifically to use for 3D development and made sure to get the nVidia GT650M to assist in this. However when I go into the monitor settings I am only given an option for 60Hz; there is no option to switch to 120Hz. I am unable to locate a driver update to assist in this. I used Dell's update for the GT650M but it's the same as what I installed from nVidia.
Where can I get a driver to update to 120Hz?

A:Dell Inspiron 17R update from 60Hz to 120Hz for 3D on Windows8

I have a 17R myself the SE 7720 version, you are aware that there are a few versions of this units being sold by Dell, where some units are specifically designed for 3D use while others like mine, even though I have a NVidia GT650M like you, will not support 3D, There are version for the 17R SE 7720 that do, I just didn't opt to purchase the unit with 3D support.
I'm pretty sure that the different unit versions in question use different LCD panels,  and have a 3D infrared transmitter near the top by the Web Cam.
You might want to check to insure that the exact model version you have was designed for 3D.

When I go into both Windows & Nvidia control panel, I'm able to only select 120 HZ as my max refresh rate. I've gone through all lower resolutions (I'm at the highest) and no opportunity is given to select 144hz.
For context I'm using an EVGA 680 GTX.

Hello, I am using Access 2000 and have created a database with a command button that opens up a report via a macro. I would like to know how to open up single reports instead of pushing a button that brings up every report, I've been able to open up reports that are based off of queries, queries that have paramenters that need to be inputted in order to bring up single unique records, but I would like to be able to just create a button that brings just that particular unique record-report off of that particular unique record on that form. Meaning that for a record that had just been inputted for John Doe on a form, I would like to know how to create a button on that form to pull up John Doe's single report without having to build a query that asks for a parameter. Is there anyway to do this?

A:Access-Printing a single report off of a single record from an Access database form

You will have to adapt this to your own form setup; but it's just using the Where line of the OpenReport macro action.

If on the form MyFormName you have two controls called txtFirstNm and txtLastNm, and in the query underlying the report you have two fields called FirstNm and LastNm, you would put into the Where line of the OpenReport action:

[FirstNm]=[Forms]![MyFormName]![txtFirstNm] And [LastNm]=[Forms]![MyFormName]![txtLastNm]

Hello everyone,

I just thought I could write on this forum to see if anyone could help me.
I have a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7VM400AAM(F)) with an ATI videocard X850XT AGP and 1 GB of Kingston memory (2x512Mb). I also have an ATI All-in-wonder video card. What happens is that when I use either of the video cards, I cannot watch flash video on my computer such as on YouTube or others. It says that Explorer or Firefox must close and sometimes the system even crashes. I know I have an old rig, but still it should work. I have no idea of what is happening and I am suspecting a compatibility error between my motherboard and video cards.

A:Wait for the Radeon HD 7xxx series or get the HD Radeon 6950 2GB?

i would get the 6950, thats a very powerful crd as of now with great driver support, even though the 7xxx series is coming out it usually takes like 2 -3 months for decent driver support and longer sometimes with crossfire support in games. as for the crossfire question, u can crossfire cards from the same generation so 5xxx series only crossfires with 5xxxseries and the same for 6xxx, my friend has a 4870x2 and was starting to lag a bit in BC2 so i got him a 4890 and we put those in crossfire, works much better. But yeah i would get the 6950 now and like u said the nice 7xxx series prob won;t be out til after CES in early 2012

My wife's computer with Windows 10 recently prompted a download of AMD's Radeon Crimson. Ever since the download was performed there have been more prompts for both Radeon Raptr (which seems to have been included with the Crimson) and Gaming Evolved, also a prompt to update Radeon Crimson. lately the prompts occur for Raptr several times throughout a day. We originally thought the AMD Crimson was an updated version for the AMD GPU on the computer. Neither my wife or myself play any online games and or not inclined to do so.My question then concerning this software is--is the Crimson an updated version that enhances the overall GPU performance of the computer, or is it meant strictly for gaming performance? If the Crimson is not improving performance for the computer's graphics sans games, how do I remove and delete the software for it and the Raptr?Any advice or information concerning this software is apprecated. Thanks, jusmeyall

You would be taking a step backwards as your 2 5970's are faster than the 6990. Also you would be trading 2 cards in Crossfire for a single card with 2 GPU's on it that also runs Crossfire.

So i recently upgraded from the Radeon 6670 to the Radeon 5770 and I haven't noticed much of a huge graphics increase and i was just wondering why this might be, defective graphics card not enough power from my power supply bottlenecking at the processor. My power supply is 520 watts

My processor is the AMD Athlon II 2 x4 635 processor 4 cpu's 2.9 ggz\

I'm sure more info is needed to help figure out whats wrong, but i will need to know how to get that info and what info is needed.

Hi all, (sorry for bad english):
I bought a new graphics card (PCI-Express) to replace the old one that came with my computer:

the old one is the ATI Radeon X1650, with 512 MB DDR2 memory;
the new one is the ATI Radeon HD 5670, with 1 GB GDDR5 memory.

I run Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (E6300 dual-core Conroe, 1.86 Ghz, 2 Mb L2) and i have 2 GB RAM DDR2.

I usually use my computer to play games like Unreal Tournament 3, Command And Conquer 4 or to run PS2/Wii emulators, at a resolution of 1600x900.
Will this graphic card improve my gaming experience? For example in Unreal Tournament 3 with ALL graphics options turned on i get 18 FPS (bad! ), and to get 60 FPS i must play it at a resolution of 800x600... will this change?

Also will my WEI score change? i get a score of 4,7 for Windows Aero performance and a score of 4,1 for game performance...

A:Ati Radeon X1650 ---> upgrade to Radeon HD 5670

theres about 2 years difference between the 2 cards so by that alone would indicate improved performance as they are both on similar levels within there range. i cant find too much details about the x1650, ati's site doesnt offer much any more.

Because i have a 480W PSU however it doesn't give the 12V of Power a High-end Graphics would need.

A:ATI Radeon HD 4350 Vs. ATI Radeon HD 4650

You would jump 9 tiers by getting the HD4650 and heres what they have to say:

"I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel, and you may not notice a worthwhile difference in performance."

So you should see a noteable increase in performance however the HD4670 are really cheap just now so if possible id advise that over the HD4650. The price difference between the two shouldnt be that much.

When I play my games I find that I get less lag and less problems with the 8500 then my 9600.. Mind you a 8500 was bought second hand..

Sence I started to play Wow my 9600 is acting up with the Gamma. Every other game that I do play my gamma keeps reseting on me.. Even on my desktop. It gets realy dark..

How could this make sence, that a old used up 8500 works better then a newer 9600? Could it be my powersupply? 350W

A:Is Radeon 8500 better then Radeon 9600?

Hi Ludwig,
The 9600 is an AGP 8x, DirectX 9.0 videocard.

The 8500 is a DirectX 8.0(8.1) videocard and therefore is limited in support when games query features.

Running a game on the 8500 may be a totally different game on a 9600, as the 9600 can enable much more detail, higher pixel/vertex shader support and a plethora of other advanced features. For this reason, even a beefier system may perform lesser than a slower system with an 8500. It's because many of the newer DirectX 9.0 features also take a toll on the CPU/memory and mainboard performance.

As far as Gamma goes- this would suggest something may be misconfigured with your installation of the ATI drivers on the 9600, or that system may have left-over components from previous drivers. This is pretty easy to have happen. I'd recommend obtaining Driver Cleaner Pro at Install this, run it's Live Update to get the latest cleaners... but don't run it. Use the Control Panel/Add-Remove programs and uninstall ALL ATI drivers here first.. then reboot in safe mode and run Driver Cleaner Pro (safe mode/administrator).. After this, in normal mode again, try the latest drivers from ATI.

Consider that this will be for an older AGP Intel server MB with 2.8ghz pentium CPU.
Currently it has an x1300 and it sometimes has issues with video performance.
at what point would it be not worth getting the better video card?

The pixels per clock is that a very significant measurement of performance vs gigabits per second?
Which has the greater weighting?

A:Radeon HD 2400PRO vs Radeon 2600 PRO

Assuming that you could actually find an AGP version of the 2600, I would buy that one. It has double the data bus width of the 2400 Pro and a faster GPU clock. It also has double the GB/s due to the double data width. If I'm not mistaken, that's a good indicator of the card's performance when doing a comparison.

More data throughput = better performance.

The only problem that I can see you having is actually finding an AGP version of that card. It's probably been out of production for years, as PCIe took over the graphics standard years ago.

Unless you are doing something like gaming, which stresses the gpu, you aren't likely to notice any difference. The newer card has faster RAM because it has a faster processor. But card speed is irelevant for normal everyday PC use (ie: email, office apps, web browsing, watching videos, etc.).

I am getting the Radeon HD 6770 for my new system build. I cant really decide which one to get; the regular edition or the flex edition.

Flex: flez

I want the regular edition because its cheaper, but I want the flex edition because of the dual-dvi. My question is that can the regular edition output out of multiple ports? I want to use two monitors with only one video card. Maybe even three monitors in the future. I have 2 different monitors right now, and both of them have only 1x VGA and 1x DVI, so I understand I might have to buy an adapter/converter.

A:Solved: Radeon HD 6770 vs Radeon HD 6770 Flex Edition

It will output to two monitors easily.
Easiest way is probably a HDMI to DVI adapter for the HDMI port.
Might be able to run 3 with eyefinity.
Might want to check the manual at the manufacturers website.
I don't know how well it would run with 3.
More monitors means more graphics processing power is required.

The 9800SE is a "crippled" 9800. There are 4 pixel pipelines rather then 8 & it's generally fitted with 3.3ns RAM rather then 2.8.

Is the difference between the SE & the non-SE very steep ? Otherwise get the non-SE.

PS. Are you sure the image corruption is because of the 9700 ? It would suck for you to get a new card & have the same problem.

I am looking at getting a new computer system with an nforce sli motherboard, but I was wondering if getting 2 cards running together would really be any better than just one using one card. Should I:

A: Get 2 Nvidia G8500GT cards running together or,

B: Get one Nvidia G8600GT card and put a 2nd one in about a year or so if the price drops a bit.

Would either A or B have any significant performance boost over the other? (of course B would be somewhat cheaper.)

Any info would be much appreciated.

i was looking at the specs of my gtx 580 that i got yesterday. and i noticed in GPU-Z that it's only running @ 8x. it is in the 16x slot so shouldn't it be running @ 16x?
is there a way i can set it to run @ 16x?
i have googled for a solution but can only find results relating to SLi which isn't useful since i have only the one card.

In the continuing effort to draw the line in the sand on my PC build i have come to another bridge i need to cross. I cant seem to decide if i want to go with an SLI configuration or a single HD hi output GPU.

I have read about SLI and feel i have a pretty good idea about it and how it works and when i have talked to different people i have been told that SLI is worthless unless you are running multiple screens, i find this to be wrong from what i understand but is this correct?

This PC will be used for gaming alot so i would like to have a pretty solid graphics setup but input from the pro's out there would help alot

Thanks in advance

A:SLI or Single HD GPU?

If cost isn't a problem then go SLI (or Crossfire for that matter I guess). I run GTX280 in SLI . Benefits of dual cards:
Higher minimum and average framerates = smoother gameplay (especially in games that nVidia cards lack performance e.g. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series)- better gameplay experience,No need to OC the cards, can use higher screen resolution and/or better AA/AF settings
Drawbacks : Cost, power consumption, scaling not linear.

I wouldn't bother with SLI unless the cards had better than 512Mb RAM each- the cards will bottleneck because of the memory buffer and you'll only see increases in framerate on games that you can max out with 1 card anyway.
My motivation for going SLI was purely because I hate stuttering framerates while gaming- just kills the mood! With dual cards the gameplay is much, much smoother even with SSAO, HDR and smoke/water effects maxed.
Occasionally the drivers aren't as up to speed as I'd like-but it's just a matter of disabling SLI for that game until the next beta/whql driver fixes it (hopefully).
Make sure you're PSU is up to the task and you have good airflow through the chassis- oh, and if you're not gaming at 1920 x 1080/1200 at least then SLI is a waste.

My new Vista64 laptop has been single-clicking me since I got it a couple of weeks ago. I went to the Folder Options right away but double-click is selected. Now figure that? If I sngclk a title bar the window changes. If I sngclk a desktop icon the program opens. Most games I can no longer play. This is driving me nuts.

Hi TravelGuy and welcome to Vista Forums

What is the make and model number of your laptop? It could be that you need to adjust the sensitivity of your touch pad. Details should be found in your user manual.
