RCA cables: sound quality vs. price

Q: RCA cables: sound quality vs. price

A question for you audiophiles. I want to connect my sound card to my receiver so I can get my computer's audio through home theatre speakers. I also want to convert my remaining cassette tapes to digital. The RCA to 3.5 mm jack cables come in a huge variety of prices, from a couple bucks for el cheapos to a small fortune for Monster cables to somewhere in between for mid-priced ones. I'm wondering just how much difference there will be in sound quality, considering what I want to use them for. And how important is gold plating? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: RCA cables: sound quality vs. price

There is a huge variety in the quality of cables and plugs. I always go for Oxygen free copper cables and gold plated plugs. The difference in sound quality between good and bad cables can be pretty big. Go for name brands such as audioquest, belkin or pudney.

I use a X-Fi Elite Pro in one of my PCs and 2 E-mu 1212m's in my other 2 PCs. The sound quality of the X-Fi going through my Linn Pre-power amps and Linn speakers compares pretty well to my much more expensive main stereo.

Hope this helps

If your going to get something like geforce 6600 you are going to have to upgrade your psu.

Hi,

My role requires that I create occasional marketing material for bids. I have used Quark Express, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Pagemaker in the past (self taught) however the company are concerned with costs etc. that come with purchasing licenses and we must choose just one.

Indesign has been thrown about but I havn't used it before, is it worth it?

Can anyone reccomend a suitable package. Perhaps something I haven't listed, training can be arranged should it be necessary.

Thanks

Heat sink easily and compad with an AMD 2000+ or higher processor. The board needs to be of well size so I can easily add more cooling systems and mods. If anyone knows some good mobos for the job?

So in a few months I'll be buying a pair of labtops, my main concern is power. I want labtops that aren't going to keel over and die. And aren't cluttered with a bunch of Salesware (All those annoying ****ing programs you didn't want in the first place, that try to activate/force you to pay to get them to run) that come on your comp when you get it.

I'd like to keep one of the labtops below 900$, I'm not necessarily looking for something that can run WoW all settings high, but I don't want absolute ****e either. It has to last a few years.

The second one, would be somewhere in the range of $1000 to $1500

And I'd prefer a long-term warranty on the both of them. Any recommendations guys?

Sites maybe, certain make & models of labtops offered by the big computer corps. Dell/Gateway etc.

I recently had my headphones short out in one ear and need new ones but I don't know what ones to get cause I don't want to keep having the same problem. So recommendations would be nice. I just want good sound quality with a mic on it. Preferably something like the ones I had (see link) but I heard those always short out after a year or two so I don't really want to deal with the problem in the future.

$50 is as high as I'd like to go, I don't know if that too low to find good quality headsets though.

Do Audio Video Cables Quality matter much?

for example with Coax i know the gold connectors worked better then silver connectors. So my question is do the cables red yellow and white connectors have high and low quality cables or they all the same. If they have high quality cables what are the names of them and where can i find them.

A:Do Audio Video Cables quality matter much?

Red,White audio RCA are much the same.
It's haveing and useing a SVHS video cable instead of Yellow RCA.
If your TV has it for VCR's etc.that have it out.
But it also depends where you are. This is a N American reply, not GB.

Mmmk I think this is the right forum for this question.

Anyways, one of the jacks that connects my 5.1 surround sound system (Creative P580 Inspire) to the audio card (Creative Audigy 2 ZS) has been damage and so one speaker doesnt work. It is definently NOT the speaker as fiddling the cables around I can make it work, but another one not work. The Creative site only has 7.1 Cables (4th from top), where can I purchase a similar product for a 5.1 system on the web.

I live in Britain btw.

Thanks for your time

My motherboard is a PCCHIPS M848LU V1.2 http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848lu.asp and the onboard sound is a C-Media AC97 (I don't know the exacts of it, but I think I can find out) It has up-to-date drivers

I just bought this comp from maincomp.com, its an AMD Athlon XP2600+, maxtor 30gig 7200rpm hd, 128mb ddr pc2100 ram (512 PC2700, whenever it gets here...) nvidia 128mb geforce4mx440, Windows XP Professional SP1a, 52x24x52x cd-rw..onboard NIC, onboard sound.

Anyway, whenever I play *most* (I say most because a few mp3s either from winamp radiostations or mp3s on my harddrive dont crack, but the sound quality is still alittle bad) it cracks some-what badly, some worse than others.. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and messing around with the settings, no help...everythings brand-new, so think it might be defective, or an hardware conflict? Thanks in advance.

A:Sound crackling, bad quality (onbored sound)

Well you could visit the PCCHIPS website and see if they have any updates for the Sound.

Also try another pair of speakers, could be bad speakers or a damaged cable/plug.

Thats a fairly nice machine, however you shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard - its one of the lowest end manufacturers of mobo's.

You may be better off by simple buying a PCI soundcard - I recommend a Creative Soundblaster - and disable the onboard sound. You'll get better quality sound and better performance in games.

Hello,

I'm new to this forum.
My problem is that I can't get any sound out of my pc anymore.

Things I have checked so far:
I got all cables plugged in.Runned sfc /scannow.Set my speakers to default output.Reset the settings to default of my speakers.Uninstalled the drivers of my audio ouput (through device manager) and re?nstalled realtek (newest version).Checked device manager but no yellow or red signs are displayed there.Of course rebooted my PC couple of times.

The odd thing is when I configure my speakers and quadraphonic my L and R speakers doesn't get any sounds but LA and RA does give sound out of the speakers and headset.
Screenshow below shows the ones that giving sound in the red box.
Anybody has any idea?
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

Greetings Reader,
I recently got 2 old "micro nucleus" speakers from a friend when they were cleaning out the apartment. I got a fairly cheap amplifier, plugged the speakers in, then found out that the amplifier output is through 2 3.5mm audio jacks. I tried just plugging these into my computer and messing around with Realtek HD Audio Manager, but I can't find a way to get one plug to play to the left speaker and one to play to the right. I've messed about with connection retasking, speaker balance etc. but cannot find a way to make this happen. I would purchase a Y splitter cable but I'm not sure if that keeps the left and right feeds separate. Ideally there would be some hidden setting or adjustment for this, but anything helps.
Thanks for your time (and hopefully your suggestion),
Duftyr

Hey folks! How the heck are ya?
I have a question about the sound quality of my new Cendyne 48x12x48 CD-R.
When I recorded audio (not music) onto a disc the sound quality isn't very good. In fact, it's kind of scratchy. Am I doing something wrong? This is my first experience with a writer. Could it be the discs I'm using (Imation CD-R)?
Please help.
Thanks and God Bless,

A:Sound Quality

If you're having quality issues recording, check the audio settings in control panel first.

You may need to lower the sampling rate or the hardware accelleration to get the desired quality. Also, trying a different brand of disks might not me a bad idea either.

One other thing...

Make sure you have latest version of DirectX!

Hi, whenever I play movies on Blu Ray or DVD, from my PS3, the levels are always off to me. The effects and music are always really loud while the dialogue is very quiet. I find myself having to turn it way up during scenes with a lot of talking then having to dive for the mute button when any action scenes come up before my neighbours bang on the door.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue only by going through the settings ??

A:Low sound quality

What is the sound coming out of? If it's anything short of a 3-channel system (Left, right, centre) then you're gonna have a hard time hearing the talking on any movie. It's just how the *****s mix the audio, unfortunately.

I have a few questions regarding sound quality. I've purchaed songs from Itunes (128kbps AAC) and from Amazon (256kbs MP3).

If I convert them to wave, which is lossless - is it still truly lossless? I mean, you take a 128kbps mp3 at 3mb in size and it shoots up to 30mb wave lossless. Is this accurate? I'm hearing impaired, so I cannot tell the difference as drastic as others can.

Also, which is the best sound quality all in all:

MP3 (Lame): 320Kbps / 44.1khz
WMA 10 Pro: VBR 98% / 96khz / 24bit
WMA 9.2 Lossless: VBR 100% / 48khz / 24bit 2 channel
WAVE uncompressed: 24bit DVD / 96khz / 2 stereo

I'll be listening in my car, burning on a DVD too.

I'm using dbpoweramp software to convert. Another thing, seems like my Kenwood DDX6019 car stereo doesn't play wav? If I'm not mistaking, isn't a regular CD in wave format?

Thanks for the tip.

No, when a music file is compressed some of the sound digitally subtracted out and if you convert to wave it can't be added back in so it's still lossy.

There all pretty close, there wouldn't be a noticeable difference, but the wave format is technically the best.

A regular CD and a wave file are both uncompressed, but a CD is formatted in a certain way to be playable on regular CD players. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV

Your car stereo will play both regular CD's and Mp3 CD's and DVD's. To get the most number of songs on a disc you should burn an Mp3 DVD.

The AAC files you could burn to Audio discs and play them like that or rip those to Mp3 and burn to DVD.

First let me say, "Welcome to the Seven Forums."

Some sound systems come with their own control panel so you can adjust the output to your liking. My HP has it own Real Tech control panel. Also try hooking up a set of desktop speakers or earphones to see what the sound is like through the output hookups. Silly question time: have you adjust the Equalizer on the MP3 player.

Okay Everyone This time I'm really not sure if this is in the right forum.

My new Laptop sounds, to me, like transistor radio when I play music.
Sure it has Dolby. But. With two tiny speakers on the bottom, it doesn't
seem to help much
Today I fixed the problem. I plugged in the sound system I used on my desktop PC.
2 XA3021 Altec Lansing speakers, with a matching Altec Lansing XA3021 sub woofer.
I've had them for about 10 years now, and they still sound really good.
Here's my question. Does the Dolby that comes with the Laptop only work with the built in speakers
or does it extend to my Altec Lansing speakers?

Go to search
type device manager
In device manger look for any yellow markers
Then make sure audio driver is up to date.

Update your mainboard bios and test under "optimized default settings" or similar. If no update, set bios to that now.

Further suggestions if needed, will assume the above conditions have been met. If that hasn't helped any, we can try to take things from this starting point.

Hello guys,
I just recently purchased an Acer Aspire X1700, which I now regret. Anyway, I am very disappointed in the sound quality of the system. After toying with the idea of replacing the sound card, I found out that this computer is not really upgradeable, and it looks as though the sound card cannot be replaced in this system, because of it's special configuration. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could make the sound better, if I am not able to change anything out? RIght now all music and video sounds very tinny.

hey guys, I am using HP Pavilion dv6-7012tx.Recently I got update through HP Support Assisstant for "IDT High Definition Audio".But after the update, the sound quality of my laptop is very poor. There is no difference in listening experience even if I disable Beats Audio.Formerly I used to keep volume only at 20-25% and that was enough, but now even 60% is not able to produce that much sound. Can anyone please tell me why this occurred? I'm new to this forum.

A:laptop sound quality got bad

Hi, I'd try going back to the previous IDT driver in the following way. Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/sp56155.exe When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again. When windows has reloaded, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.  Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.  If you have an 'Enhancements' tab, click thi and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.  Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all. Regards, DP-K

I had a large music collection on my old system (XP sp2). After a motherboard death, I pulled the hard drive and installed it as a slave in my new system. (Presario SR1724NX).
The sound quality is very poor. Sounds echo, and some of the vocal tracks are almost inaudible.
I have tried Media Player 10 and RealPlayer and both sound alike.
I am thinking the Sound Card is bad, but before I buy a new one I am hoping someone will have some suggestions.
Also recommendations for a good sound card and speakers are welcome. I don't have a "Golden Ear", but I would like it to sound good.

Thanks

it will yes but that also depends on whether you get a good soundcard etc. for it.

I recently purchased a HP Pavilion p6210t desktop computer. I have had a few problems with Windows 7 but most of them have been corrected. The one major problem is the sound I get out of the speakers. Sometimes the quality is good but about half the time the speakers crackle and give off the weirdest sounds. I have call HP techs and really have never received a viable answer to the problem. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to correct this?

I recently got my laptop repaired for a broken hinge. Afterward, I had to reinstall Windows 10 and update all the drivers manually. Since then (a few weeks ago), my sound has been great. Up until yesterday it worked perfectly. Today, I plug my headphones in and notice the sound is awful. I unplug them and the sound coming out of the speakers is awful too. I updated my sound driver (just reinstalled) and same issue. I went through the Microsoft audio fixer and it didn't change anything. I've tried everything I found in these forums but the sound is still bad. No bass, all sounds like it comes out of a tin can. Beats Audio Panel is installed but nothing changes when I turn Beats on or off. HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad EditionWindows 10 64 bit

I currently have the latest windows media player and realplayer, and up to date sound card drivers, my question is, does the equalizer for sound card + windows media player equalizer/realplayer equalizer effect music quality that was burned to a cd? Or does it go by bitrate and adapting to any equalizer that a music player has? I am not sure if I need to turn off equalizers to burn a cd so it isn't so bassy when I play it on my radio.

A:Question about sound quality.

not sure, but ONCE years ago used wmp to burn, lame, wmp burns the way the songs are, doesn't buff so songs are equal in sound/volume, Nero is good, but if want free burner, Ashampoo is ok...if wanna try other players, winamp was good, tho, i have heard of problems with vista and a 5.1 sound system, tis why i didn't d/l it, i have JetAudio. all players and equilizers are set differently, will have to set them all, bitrate does make a difference, anything under 128mb's not good, depends on how bad you want the song, if say, as song 380'ish, that would mean someone messed with the song, 192mb's is a not bad rate, if looking for more pure, FLAC, meaning loss-less, meaning sound would be better but, would need a converter to convert to mp3.

ya, i know, talked more than i needed to...lol....a few too many maybe...lol

Hope helps

My laptop has excellent quality audio on cd's, streaming videos, games, and everything else EXCEPT DVD's. It used to play the sound normally but suddenly it started to skip, echo and sounds 'tinny'. The video on the DVD's still plays fine, so it is just the audio that seems to be messed up. Like I say, the audio on everything else still works absolutely fine.
I contacted Acer about the problem and they said I should just reset the laptop and start over, but since most of the programs on the laptop were put on at the factory (including windows) if I reset it then I won't have the disks to put all the programs back on. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello.

I connected my PC's audio and sound to my TV. The TV model is Sony KDL-32L4000.
The video from the PC is connected via D-Sub to the TV(at the computer's end it's using a DVI to D-Sub converter).
The audio is connected to the television using a PC to LCD-TV 3.5mm audio jack cable.

The problem is that, for example, when watching Youtube videos with my headphones on/computer speakers, the sound quality is much nicer and I can hear the speech over the music. If I watch Youtube with my TV's main speakers being as sound output, it's really hard to hear people talk and music is usually louder than speech but not of a good quality. But watching normal cable TV channels results in a very nice and clear sound from the main TV speakers.

What's up?

hi

could someone please tell me why is there such a massive audio quality difference between car radio and car cd player?? i mean when i put the radio on in my car you have nice bass and loudness without putting volume up to full, but when i put some music on a cd and put it on in my car i have to put the volume up to like 20 before it gets any louder and sound quality is good but bass is rubbish. am i doing something wrong? is there i don't know a different way of recording cd's or something or is this normal?

sorry if this is off the topic but i thought this would be the best place to search for an advice.

thanks

A:difference in sound quality?

I notice a difference in volume level between the radio and a CD in my auto, too. The audio level can also vary with CD's, from both commercial audio CD's and burned CD's.

Bass is usually emphasized on radio, so in most cases it will be more than a CD. I have a recording studio and try to mix my songs for a variety of audio devices, from home stereo to car audio to MP3 players, etc.

Hello. I have an HP Envy 17t-j100 with windows 8.1. I have noticed that anything I play on my laptop is lower quality to anything I play on any other device. I used the same headphones. My guess is it has something to do with the beats audio. If i uncheck the beats audio thing, it just makes it sound even worse. Is there a way to remove the beats or whatever is making sounds sound bad? Is beats even the problem? What can I do? Thank you.

A:Why is the sound quality on my laptop so bad?

Hi @Gobbling_Monkey , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome.  I have looked into your issue with the sound not working correctly from your HP ENVY 17j100 Notebook.  The first thing to try is this 1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.2. Click Playback Devices.3. Click Speakers.4. Click properties.5. Click the advanced tab on the Properties window.6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.7. Apply the properties.8. Click OK to close the properties window. Restart your Notebook. If this does not help try HP support document No Sound from Speakers. It has a number of good troubleshooting steps including using the built-in Windows troubleshooter. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system  that might need updating. If an update is needed this could cause sound issues. The Troubleshooting tool in Windows 8 can automatically fix common problems with your computer, such as audio recording. Here is a link to this. If you still want to disable or uninstall the Beats follow these instructions. To enable or disable Beats Audio, press the fn key in combination with the b key. The Jack does have influence on the Beats Audio which might need to be turned off. Here is a document on how to uninstall software. The bottom link shows you how to disable software. Hope this is what you need. Thanks.

I've noticed a downgrade in the quality of the way my music sounds. It's like it's missing certain layers of music or leaving bits and pieces out. It does this in Winamp and WMP. I recently installed more RAM, but I don't see how this would change anything.

What things can I try to see if some setting was changed or if something is acting wierd?

Whenever I increase the volume the sound is really horrible, like from cheap $3 speakers. The sound is NOT clear at all.
I tested the same files (mp3, FLAC) on anothet device and it is just great.
Here?s my setup:

OS:
Windows 8 - all updates

Soundcard:
Asus Xonar D1 interne PCI Soundkarte 7.1, Digital Out, Dolby Technik, Eax, 192kHz 24bit, Low Profile - newest driver

Mainboard:
Intel DP55WG - onboard sound disabled in BIOS

Speaker:
Teufel Concept B20
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

A:Horrible Sound Quality

Have you tried a headset or different speakers?

To eliminate the Xonar sound card, remove the Xonar and enable the on-board audio and try that. If there is no problem with the on-board audio then that points to the Xonar as the problem. However, if that does not fix it then its back to troubleshooting the PC.

I recently upgraded my SattellitePro 4300 laptop, increasing the ram and HDD. This required a reload of operating system (WIN 2000 Pro) and all drivers and software.
Now the sound coming from the speakers or headphones, no matter what the source (CD's, MP3, or WAV files) sound like an old scratched record, with a "click" every 3 seconds. This is more noticable with loud music, and seems to be an "break" in the sound continuity every 3 seconds, just for a small period, perhaps less than a tenth of a second.
I have done all the obvious things (updated sound drivers, etc.) but still the problem remains. All sound output experiences this problem.

The sound driver is Yamaha DS-XG.

Any suggestions what else I could try?

A:Poor Sound Quality

Well, maybe "fixed" is a little strong.

Not sure what I have done, but it did not include any more drivers, but merely changes to the settings and today, after I powered up this morning, the sounds is working without those annoying "scratched vinyl" simulations.

I'll have to mark this one up as "smoke and mirrors".

So, I deleted that driver and installed the SigmaTel driver from the Dell website. Now my mic works but the sound quality is really low.

Anybody know a way I can improve the sound quality without loosing my mic?

Thanks Doug

Sounds like a typical driver issue. From what I can see, Dell doesn't support Win7 64 on that model. So it would appear you upgraded the OS on your own. Finding a working driver will be a matter of trial and error as the Vista drivers don't always work.

A:Sound Quality Mystery

First thing you should do is update the BIOS. That boards did have issues with the sound driver reinstalling and the sound not working after a resume from standby.
You can easily update the BIOS from Windows: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng

If that doesn't resolve it then check the front panel audio header. If the front panel audio cables are not connected then there should be two jumpers installed, you may even want to disconnect the front audio headers if they are conencted and re-install the jumpers to see if it helps.

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-020642.htm
Look through all the topics but mainly the Configuring Front Panel Audio section and you'll need the manual.

Lastly you can contact Intel for support and maybe have the motherboard replaced under warranty if its determined to be faulty.

I can't remember if it happened during upgrades since I rarely touch the screen.Problem 2: Since around 2 months ago, the sound quality deteriorated. The volume is still good, but no bass when listening with both headphones or theater speakers. But when I used other music players, both headphones & theater speakers sound very good. So the problem is in my laptop, even the graphic Equalizer cannot enhance the quality. The sound in my laptop is very essential since I do music productions using this laptop. It's frustrating having this poor sound quality. I already did Uninstall & Reinstall the driver IDT High Definition Audio CODEC but still no improvement. Can anyone help me?Thank you.

can bad quality sounds ruin speakers or sound card when they're played?
for example, i had an old pc game, it doesn't work too well with my intergrated audio in my new motherboard, as a result i get all these load buzzzing and sizzleing and "SAAAAAAAAA" noises coming from my speakers, i was wondering if these kinds of noises could damage my intergrated auido ?

one time i install resident evil 2 on my friend's pc, it mess up his sounds completely, whenever he listens to his songs there would always sound like an *echo* effect, first we change the speakers but that didn't fix anything, we even uninstall windows adn format hardrive, but even after all that his sounds are still mess up, i feel really guilty, he too, uses intergrated sound on his mobo, so i'm worried if the same thing may happened to me.
please help, i greatly appreciate it.

Since this is intermittent, I would suspect the internet link from YouTube. From your post I assume all other sound is OK.

The current sound card I have, is still my old Audigy 2 ZS. It is coupled to a pair of Logitech Z-5500's.

The sound that comes out of this setup is extremely good for what it is in my opinion. I am building a new PC shortly, and I am just wondering, is creative still at the top for sound quality with there cards these days?

My main use is probably 80% music, and the other 20% being gaming/movies. I want the highest sound quality possible, even if I have to spend $200 on a sound card, I am willing. When your an audiophile, you can't stand cheap sound.

A:Who rules sound quality these days?

Most people I know swear by HT | OMEGA. Most of my system builds/upgrades usually incorporate on of their cards or Asus' Xonar if the HT's are unavailable (or if a low profile card is required).

I have connected the laptop to a docking station The docking station has a connection for quality update problem after Sound a headset external amplifier Ideal for connecting the amplifier Only that connection has no bass anymore The headset connection of the laptop itself does have a nice sound but I hate to keep switching the plug x a day between headset and amp Telephone Amp echo My alarm clock only works with the external speakers but Skype and Softphone want the headset Also I have to switch off the HP speakers in the system and only have the external headset on as since one of the latest updates the internal speakers do not switch off anymore when the headset gets plugged in This has repercussions for audio players and video players as they want their sounds to go through the HP speakers Only VLC mediaplayer has the option to switch between sound channel but I have to change it every time I start up a video Sound quality problem after update Before the update there was an automatic switch and I could Sound quality problem after update leave both of them on and the sound channel was chosen autamtically and would switch to headset when that was plugged in etc nbsp I am using Windows bits and windows is not an option because of various older programmes that would need to be updated if still possible which would be quite costly I noticed something new was installed called SRS Premium Sound Pro Maybe that is the culprit I do not dare changing anything in it nbsp Does anyone know how to debug this

I am having terrible sound quality from my new desktop (9020 Optiplex SFF) on Windows 10.  I have tried drivers from both Realtek and Microsoft to no avail.  I have also tinkered with the MaxxAudio settings for nearly an hour now but the quality is really bad. The same tracks from my handheld, Inspiron Desktop and laptops sound way better. Is there a solution available for this issue?

Hey Friends, when i listen to music with headphones the music and sound is all ok.

But When i insert a headset(headphone with mic) the sound is really bad and i can't listen to music with proper sound..

please help me

A:Very Low Quality sound when i insert a heatset(with mic).

Have you tried more than one headset with mic or tried the headset with mic in a different PC to see the sound changes?

But, I would suspect its the quality (or it is defective) of the headset since another headset sounds OK. I have a recording studio and have some high quality "recording studio" headsets and also some "inexpensive" ($50) Sennheiser headsets and there is a difference that can be heard.

I noticed a few days ago I only had SP installed for my x bit HP Pavilion Laptop A little surprised by this I decided I'd go ahead and install SP I'm a bit of a music listener and I've been listening to music on this laptop everyday for over years now The default settings were just right for me and worked really well with my music However after installing SP I noticed an IDT Audio icon in the taskbar I never had that there before - it apparently had some settings for some audio quality enhancer or something I sorta disregarded it and went straight to my tunes I noticed off the bat the quality Quality Sound Vista Changed SP2 was different I wouldn't say it's bad or it 'worsened' but it just sounded different than what I've been used to I tried getting used to it but I can't get into the music as much as I used to - hit's aren't as heavy and climaxes seem dulled down or washed out Anyways - I tried uninstalling IDT audio only to find out that it was an actual device Vista SP2 Changed Sound Quality and that I had no sound by uninstalling it Installing it again resulted in the same quality difference Is there anything I can do to get the default sound back Would a system restore do the trick I really don't care if I have SP or SP I just want the same sound I had before Any tips Thanks

A:Vista SP2 Changed Sound Quality

Welcome
The facts are that SP2 has changed something that affects the quality of your music.
If you use system restore, all will be back to the way it was prior to the install of SP2. Initially, I would not go that route. I would go to search and type device manager, in device manager, uninstall the audio driver, then boot. You will have a new driver. If the quality is not imporoved, uninstall and then go to the website of the sound card and update driver from there. Its my guess that all will be good, again. Before doing anything make a system restore point, so that you can go back in case of problems.

Hi.
I recently had to format and reinstall XP. I DL'd all the latest drivers for my sound card, but now I don't have the same sound quality as I had before. All the highs sound really scratchy and the bass sounds like my speakers are shot, which I know they're not.
Can drivers affect the sound quality? Changing the EQ doesn't help either. Or using different media players. And it's the same with all audio files. Thanks.

PS: If I put this in the wrong place, maybe a mod can move it?

I'm planning to buy an Averatec 6130H1 notebook, and it only has integrated sound. In order to improve sound quality, I thought of buying a Starlogic Audio Converter along with a 5.1 stereo system.

My worry is that it will still play low quality sound, just through a huge 5.1 stereo system. Will the Starlogic Channel Audio Theater improve sound quality, also?

Also, I've been looking hard for a good notebook sound card, but it's very frustrating to distinguish between sound cards for notebook and for desktop computers. Is there a keyword I should be looking for, are the two kinds of cards basically the same, or what? Any information or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Questions on notebook's sound quality

Gum,

Not much more subjective than sound quality!!! But since Circuit City has a rather liberal Return Policy:

Digital cameras, camcorders, desktop PCs, notebook PCs, monitors, printers, scanners and radar detectors must be returned within 14 days of the sale date, and (except where prohibited by law) are subject to a 15% restocking fee if returned opened or in a non-factory sealed box.

There is no restocking fee for defective product returned in exchange for the exact same product, or for product originally purchased as Open Box.

For any exchange or refund, we need the original receipt or a record of the purchase in our system, and the product must be in its original condition, including the box, UPC bar code, packaging, and all accessories.

Opened software, music, games, and movies may be exchanged for the same title only.

Charges for installation and delivery services are nonrefundable after the services have been performed."

Why not try it and see if YOU are satisfied, not if WE are satisfied!! If there is a Circuit City near you buy it as a walk-in. Save any shipping or re-stocking charges.

Today I made three changes to my PC.

#1: Removed a faulty DVD drive.
#2: Gave the inside of my PC a good dusting with CO2 can.
#3: Formatted C: drive and reinstalled Windows.

Now I have everything reinstalled, but I have a sound quality issue that's a bit weird. There is a slight buzzing that varies with graphical on screen movements and perhaps even CPU activity. I always use headphones on the rear audio output, and tried on a separate pair and the same noises occur. The drivers I am using are the latest from the manufacturers website.

The sound card is a Soundblaster Live! 24 bit and the PC is a Dell Dimension 5000. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be the cause/solution of this problem?

Ok, I have an Advent laptop. When I play CDs (on both iTunes and Windows Media Player) the sound quality is extremely bad. It's really crackly and fuzzy. Strange though because this only occurs with several of my CDs. Other ones play perfectly.
I have tried playing the CDs on a CD player to make sure it isn't them but they played fine on the CD player.

Is there anyway I can fix this problem?

A:Terrible sound quality when playing CDs. How can I fix this?

ClairR, Welcome to SF. My guess here is these two or three discs are recorded with especially deep bass which is distorting the speakers and making them break up. This is a guess but with the small and very cheap speakers which laptops are known for they just can't play loud and they can't play at the extreme ends of the frequency spectrum.

hi folks, a general question here.

i've successfully installed a cd r/rw burner, have windows media player 9 with nero plug-in, and have musicmatch to play mp3's.

my aim to ensure that when i burn music to cd, when i play this back on my music system (ie not my pc) that the quality is maintained as nearly as possible to cd quality.

a friend tells me that mp3 quality is less than cd, and my question is therefore, is there any reference site i could look at which will help me decide whether, for example, copying mp3's to cd (via a format changer?) is going to be worth my while in terms of sound quality.

any help or views gratefully received.

My two computers share my monitor, keyboard and speakers through a KVM switch. I recently got a new 3pc. amplified speaker system. It sounds good on one computer and not on the other. Sound cuts in and out. I've tested this both with a game and a music CD with the same result. The same CD plays ok (though a little crackly on the other system -- I believe that is just the proximity of the components, right?). What can I do about the sound on the second system?

I've also checked each of the connections and verified they are plugged in completely -- the only thing I haven't done is opened up the computer itself and checked on where the sound card meets the motherboard. The old speaker system was working fine.

When I'm talking with someone in Skype, the sound will go down and the quality will fell. This also happens with some games. To make make the quality and the volume normal, I have to go to the properties and turn Dolby Digital Plus back on. It turns off by itself when doing any action from the ones above. Everything goes back to normal when I exit the game/end the Skype call. My drivers are all updated, I've unchecked all the items that are doing any manipulation to the speakers, such as lowering the sound on calls etc.

Hello,

I'm new to the forums and hoped there would be some out there who could help with my problem.

I'm a Napster user and have recently noticed that downloaded tracks have really poor sound quality. In particular, the songs have skips, clicks and

slowdowns. The problems in the individual tracks occur in exactly the same place in each track if replayed and also, if transferred to another computer,

the problem remains.

This strikes me as strange as appears the problem occurs at the download stage. If I re-download a specific track, it's likely it will be fine as the

problem seems to happen on around 1 in 10 tracks.

The problem doesn't seem to be performance related as the problem always occurs in the same place in each track. Also I've tried copying the track from

a Vista computer to an XP computer and the problem remains.

Any help would be appreciated...

Sound with Fraps: YouTube (if you turn the sound up, the problem is much more noticable)

Sound with Emulator's recording software: YouTube

As you can see, the audio with Fraps feels like it has a bit of distortion to it, and the problem is, while I can record this game without a problem with the emulator's recording system, most games require Fraps or another software.

Thing is, Fraps records Windows sounds, while the emulator only records the game's sounds, so I feel like there's something making this interference in my computer, and yes, my mic is turned off, that's not the problem.

And when I see other people's videos that they record with Fraps they sound just fine, so I feel like changing recording software won't help, I also just updated Fraps to the most recent version.

Also, when playing I hear the game perfectly, without the sound being messed up as it is.

A:Bad quality in sound when recording with Fraps

I tried to access the youtube fraps recording and the Emulator recording samples, but it says it is "private".

Recording volume level (too high) can cause distortion or introduce low level noise. I have a recording studio and well aware of recording levels.

Here is what the Fraps site says about distortion:

How can I adjust the volume of the sound that is recorded?
You must configure the volume through the "Sounds and Audio Devices" item in the Control Panel. Use the following steps:

Click on the Control Panel and select Sounds And Audio.Click on the Audio tab.Find the Sound Recording device and click Volume.Adjust the volume for the Input that Fraps is recording from. This is usually named "What U Hear", "Record Master", or "Stereo Mixer".
If you can't see the correct Input on screen you may need to enable it by clicking on Properties in the menu and ensuring all Inputs have a check beside their name

I have binned my the subwoofer was playing up I have purchased a pair of Logitech Z- I kid you not the sound quality through WMP is unreal The problem i have is when i initially first set up i only connected the green cable from the subwoofer to the green jack on my soundcard I went to the soundcard settings and set all the settings to do with base to max I played 'Ludicris - Yeah' from WMP and the room shook only on no Sound with 'Line-In' so good quality half volume The quality was unreal I then decided to try the speakers out Sound quality no so good with 'Line-In' with VDJ while doing a mix I connected the RMX Splitter into the back of 'Line in' on my soundcard I went to the settings of my soundcard and changed the volume to quot Line-In quot I opened up VDJ and played the same song I notice it wasn't so clear and wasn't half as basey I then disconnected all cables from my soundcard and linked them together with a female RCA cable Below So now my RMX and speakers are 'looped' and my RMX is acting as the soundcard There are no cables in my soundcard The sound was terrible i played around with a few settings but its not changed any thing Can anyone suggest why or how to fix this so the sound quality would be as good as it was when only the subwoofer's green cable was plugged into the soundcard and i was playing from WMP Thanks Dan

A:Sound quality no so good with 'Line-In'

My Bad.

I didn't see the tab "Recording" in the sound settings and when i did find the right recording device, i needed to click 'listen' and put the volume up to 100%.

It now has 'Studio quality' that sounded like WMP. All fixed now.
