I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just wondering if it's possible to bung a new processor in my laptop and if so, which ones are possible? I'm having a laptop upgrade spree  .  In fact I might as well go all out and ask what the deal is with sticking a new motherboard in there. Not even sure if it's possible but no harm in asking. Cheers!

Hi, What is your g6 ? On many g6 AMD APU computers, you can't upgrade CPU without buying new motherboard. Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108Regards.

Hi, This is and old laptop. From its Maintenance and Service Guide you only have 2 options (for CPU) and 8GB of RAM max. A:Upgrade Processor HP Pavilion a6522f Desktop PC

Here is the link to upgrade CPU models. The "Phenom with Quad Core (Agena) technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)" seems to be the top model.  You will need new thermal paste, using the same heat sink.  The variation in power is only an added 6W. Here's a link (sold out) but look at the specs. Amazon should have it.  Do not get the Black Edition.

Hey, fellow forum users. I have questions concerning the processor in my HP Pavillion 15 Notebook. Mainly being,-is it possible that I could upgrade the current dual core i3 I have to an i5 or even i7?-Is there any other upgrades I can make to beef the notebook up as I mostly use it for gaming  and I can hardly get 20 FPS?-Or do you advise I sell this laptop as I cannot upgrade the motherboard? I have tried using the already existing support for processor upgrades on the HP support website but it was no help at all and I've had to do a lot of digging to no avail.Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope you are able to answer my questions and I'm sorry for my inability as I have very little experience with hardware. Much thanks, Halogen.

Hi I've been having issues with my HD for a while now and I'm looking for some help For the longest time my graphics card worked perfectly with my computer and everything was fine I never had cooling issues or anything like that and there really were no problems Recently my computer would power up Sapphire Fan D4000 HD5770 issues. red led problems? for a little while seem to be working alright but then shut off if you tried to use it for an extended period Sapphire HD5770 D4000 red led issues. Fan problems? of time Consecutive uses would make the computer shut off earlier than it had the try before so I assumed the card was overheating When I opened the case to have a look I noticed that the D red led was lit and googled for similar issues to my own and it turned out that the led was related to overheating issues When I looked inside the case I noticed that while the fan was turning it was bugging along slowly and not spinning correctly I decided to take the card out apply new thermal compound along with my CPU and then put the components back in Since using the thermal compound and compressed air to clean the fans and heatsinks the CPU purrs and is a lot cooler but the GPU does not work at all Now when my GPU is put back in the machine the fan does not turn at all All green leds on the card light up and it seems to run fine for a little while as it had before but it eventually shuts off as there is no fan movement and again consecutive uses shorten the amount of time the GPU works I've taken the GPU out again but I'm clueless about what to do next should I buy a new fan There is no debris in the fan and when I spin it lightly with my finger it seems to spin perfectly Although there is no resist from the fan at all it is completely loose I don't know if that is a bad sign The GPU is just over warranty by a few months I also have no idea where to buy a new fan if that's what I need Thanks for reading

A:Sapphire HD5770 D4000 red led issues. Fan problems?

Did you plug the fan connector back to the GPU PCB? If you say it will not spin at all after you dissassembled.
Also, try using MSI afterburner to regulare your fan RPM's and see if it works with that.

Hi, I am running an older Pavilion, the m9250f. I am trying to keep this computer going as long as possible because I use a lot of assistive technology, and it's completely setup for me to operate.  The fans have been making some terrible noises for awhile. I tracked down a new system fan and had it installed, but that didn't fix the noise. It must be the processor fan. I haven't been able to locate one of those online.  So my question: how can I find the part number for the processor fan inside my Pavilion m9250f? Many thanks in advance.

I'd like to upgrade the processor on an HP Pavilion 7160 166mgz computer. Just like to make it faster on the internet. Like to keep it cheap if possible. I was thinking of upgrading to the 500 to 800mgz range if possible and stay under $150. Any suggestions on where I could go to the processor and where I might get instructions on how to install it?

Any help you can be would be greatly appreciated.

Your not going to be able to do that, your pentium motherboard won't support it. Highest speed that chip went was 233 and that's not worth the bother, it may not even work on that motherboard. Money would be better spent on something newer

I am currently running a 500 mhz Athlon , the PC is about 4-5 years old & I’m looking at upgrading the processor.
Not able to spend a great deal, probably around £60 - £80 ($120 approx). Have been reading a lot of reviews & was looking at the Athlon XP2500+ as a cheap solution, packing a 1.8ghz, this is fine for me. BUT, I read that if your motherboard is more than 3 years old you should, or may have to change it in order to upgrade???

Generally need some advice on upgrading please. What would be the max I could go up to? Should you switch from an Intel to an Athlon or vice versa? What things do I have to take into account? Don’t know anything about BIOS, clock speeds etc…

Can't find much but apparently you have an 440lx chipset. That chipset is not coppermine compatible so I don't believe you can upgrade that high. Also you motherboard was built to support 66mhz front side bus, I beleive the 900 is a 100mhz front side bus. 533 maybe as high as you can go.

I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the CPU?? Maybe have an AMD duo core CPU or even a quad core (pretty sure quad is impossible). Any recommendations for a CPU upgrade?

Another question i have is if i get a new duo core CPU wil it be compatible? Because I know dell locks their computers so that you are limited to only a few CPUs....Is that true here?

Thanks guys!!!

A:Processor upgrade?

You potential CPU upgrade would most likely be limited to whatever Compac has shipped in the same basic model machine. As to whether it's worth it to try, that's anybody's guess.

I started out thinking I needed more RAM and now I'm looking at swappin' CPU's. I am currently running a single core AMD Athelon.
There are a bunch of different CPUs that will work with my MOBO. I have an AM2+ socket and here are the processors I have to choose from.

•AMD Phenom II Quad-Core
•AMD Phenom II Triple-Core
•AMD Phenom Quad-Core (A) 9xxx series (AM2+)
•AMD Phenom Triple-Core (T) 8xxx series (AM2+)
•AMD Athlon X4
•AMD Athlon X3
•AMD Athlon X2 (B) (AM2+)

Is there a major difference in the Phenom and Athelon??? The "Black" series???
I went to Newegg and found only 3 different CPUs to choose from. Tiger Direct has about 15. am on a budget so I can't just pick the most expensive and figure I am getting what's best. So...I am looking for input!
I love this place!!!

A:Processor Upgrade ???

There are several good sites that let you compare CPUs,such as Tom's Hardware and Anandtech. What a "good" CPU is depends on what you want to do with it. If you are not doing things that can use multiple cores, they only add cost, not performance. Blacks have the CPU multiplier unlocked, if you want to play with overclocking.

A:processor upgrade

Look at your board specs and if you don't have a manual, look it up online. I would say the fastes would be a 500 as your bords bus speed is probably only 66MHz and the multiplier will not go any highr than that. If it supports 7.5 to 1 then it should work for the 550.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am awaiting a heart transplant and cannot afford to purchase a new system. Thanks

A:Processor Upgrade

The K6 hasn't been available for years now, the only place you'd find one would be 2nd hand.

I had a quick look on the VIA website, but couldn't see that one archived anywhere, so it's gonna be hard to say what is the fastest CPU it supports. It's probably not worth messing with, as the K6 was available in 500MHz maximum - correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going off memory here!

All the best with the surgery.

A:Processor upgrade?

Entirely dependent on the ability of the Motherboard as to what it will accept.

If the processor you are installing is the maximum in terms of clock speed etc that the board will accept, then no.

If the board will take a faster processor than the one you are installing, then yes.

A:processor upgrade from 35 to 45 w

Hi: I would be concerned with the higher wattage too, but the bigger concern would be that we have no idea if the BIOS in your PC has the microcode to support the 3630QM. Without the microcode to support the processor, it won't work at all. And since that processor is not listed as supported in the manual, I doubt it will work.

Could you please suggest me the best upgrade for my laptop with processor and graphic card

A:Which is the best processor upgrade

Here is the Service Manual: Manual You have the Pentium B950. The motherboard is only able to accept Pentium processors. See p. 19. The only "upgrade" you can do is to a slightly faster Pentium processor like the P6300. Not worth the effort in my opinion. The video is also limited by the motherboard. The video chip is soldered on. You have the Intel HD video and there is a motherboard with discrete video which would be somewhat better. If you were going to do that you might as well also get the motherboard that would accept an i5 processor. But the cost of the new motherboard and processor and heatsink would certainly exceed what you paid for that laptop. The CQ57 series was widely offered as a low-priced doorbuster special. You would be much better off with a new laptop.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Simply Put.
Is it possible to upgrade my processor? I haven't taken my PC apart yet, but I don't know exactly where to look to find my processor. And I don't know if it can be upgraded or not.

I do a lot of graphics work and my PC really needs a boost, so upgrading from a P4 to a Dual-core or a Quad would be a helpful step. I just hope I don't need to buy and install (if I could :/) a new motherboard. (If that is applicable)

Thanks

A:Is it possible to upgrade my processor?

Open the case of your PC and find out the make and model of your motherboard (or check you manual if you have one). This can usually be found printed somewhere on the board itself. Stick that into google to find the documention and hence the processors that are supported by your mobo.

To get a significant boost you'll probably need a new mobo, CPU, more RAM and a faster hard drive (10/15k rpm).

IBM gives no information as to whether a processor upgrade is possible or not. I know it only has 2 slots for RAM though.

I would like to upgrade the processor and the RAM. Is there an easy way I can change the amount of slots available for RAM? Can I upgrade the processor? If so am I limited to type? The current specs say max 256 RAM - will this change if I change the processor?

Hi,

I want to upgrade the processor of my PC.
My current processor is an AMD Athlon XP, 1466 MHz (11 x 133) 1700+ motherboard: Asus A7V8X

I know that my motherboard will support any and all AMD XP processors so I wanted to go for the AMD XP3200+ , what do you guys think?

The XP3200+ that runs on the 400Mhz FSB and has 512KB of L2 Cache should give me a very significant upgrade in speed.
Would I need PC3200 RAM (400Mhz) to go with that CPU?
How can I know if my actual ram slot are 400Mhz or less?

How much and in what way I would see the increase of performances of my PC?
thank you

Also my current RAM is '512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S'

I have 2 slots, one has a faulty retaining clip. Could I use only one slot and fit the Max. RAM the M/board will allow of 4GB such as a single 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 or a 4GB DDR2 PC2-5300. Or must I use both slots.

thanks

A:AMD Processor and RAM Upgrade to ???

You didn't list your motherboard model so I can't advise on a better CPU.

Depending on what is wrong with the faulty retaining clip you could use the slot, or not. If it is simply broken so it doesn't clip onto the end of your RAM module, but the RAM module is fully seated in the socket, go ahead and use it as-is.

If it is broken in a way that prevents the RAM module from plugging in properly, well then can't use that slot.

If your motherboard supports dual channel mode it would be better to use two slots.

A:Want to upgrade the processor in my HP

Not worth the effort.

Only an HP BIOS would be suggested. And even though HP is using MB's manufactured by another vendor, that vendor (ECS in this case) won't support the motherboard and their standard BIOS's likely won't install or it will install and brick the motherboard. In most cases, (BIOS, firmware, etc.) the installer will check for valid hardware. As the motherboard is a "HP" MB, the installer will likely just spit out an error like "hardware not supported".

Feel free to experiment and try to get it to work. But you aren't the only one that has had these type of thoughts and it's not often that I've seen a success story.

I'd suggest a motherboard and cpu upgrade.

It's almost always a bad idea to upgrade the processor in a laptop. The motherboards aren't "standard", they have to be completely torn apart which introduces all kinds of potential problems, and excessive heat is likely to be an issue with a more powerful processor.

Can I still upgrade processor of hp pavilion dv4 1140go with intel I5?

A:processor upgrade

Nope it's a Core 2 Duo so has a different socket than any of the i3, i5, i7 processors. You could install a much better Core 2 Duo, however.

I currently have a Samsung R580 with an Intel Core i3 process which comes out for me as 2.13 GHz . I want to upgrade to an i5 which will give me anywhere from 2.66 GHz to 3.6 GHz with the i5. The total cost for the 3.66 GHz processor is just about $220.00 .

Is it worth it to upgrade my processor to play more demanding games without lag and choppiness.

Most importantly, is it compatible to remove my i3 Processor and replace it with an i5?

And, if I do so will it erase my data?

Thanks SevenForums.com !

The quick answer is laptops CPU's are not upgradeable becasue the CPU is soldered in and not plugged into the motherboard.
If you are getting choppy video I would look into what else you may have running in the background. Seems you have a good video card and enough memory.

Whay software are you using to run your DVD movies? Are you sure you have the latest video drivers and software updates? These are just a few ideas I think you should check.

I've not had a problem with my processor until now, because I've not been into anything all that processor intensive before. But now, I've found that working with video files which require a lot of encoding, runs my CPU at 100%. That is not a problem, except that I can't use the computer for anything else, during the processing...even simple programs will freeze up.

I don't want to spend the money for a real upgrade to current standards, but I'm wondering if upgrading my 4400+ S939 to a Athlon 64 FX-57 would make enough difference to make it worthwhile to upgrade it? As far as I can see, the only change would be to increase from 2200Mhz to 2800Mhz. This upgrade would cost ~ $200 for a used processor.

A:Processor Upgrade?

I know squat about AMD. Do you have a dual core?

Have you considered altering your "affinity" settings via Task Manager?

I have never changed my settings, but it supposedly allows you to force a certain process to use only 1 core, rather than the standard 2. That would slow down your video processing, but free up 1 core to do something else.

A:Upgrade Processor

Hi, The following link shows the specs of your machine:     http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02981997 It uses:  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5-2430M processor now. You can upgrade to a processor above the red line: Intel Core i7-2620M processor (2.7 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.40 GHz, 4 MB L3 cache), Dual 35 W #631252-001Intel Core i5-2540M processor (2.6 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.3 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache), Dual 35 W #631255-001Intel Core i5-2520M processor (2.5 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.2 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache), Dual 35 W #631253-001Intel Core i5-2430M processor (2.4 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.0 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache), Dual 35 W #653341-001Intel Core i5-2410M processor (2.3 GHz, SC turbo up to 2.9 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache), Dual 35 W #638039-001Intel Core i3-2350M processor ( 2.3 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache) Dual 35 W #653340-001..... You have to order the right part from HP and the following manual (from page 88) shows you how to replace the CPU.       http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02968997.pdf Regards.

Does anyone know if a BY80607002526AE (Corei7 940xm socket G1) go into a system with a BX80607I7720QM (Corei7 720 QM socket G1) processor and increase processing power significantly? At least enough to be worth the added $150 upgrade?

Hello, I would like to ask a question.
If you look you'll see that I have an AMD A8-5545M Processor. I would like to upgrade my CPU. To an Intel i5 Preferably.
If I can upgrade my processor, what processors can I upgrade TO?
Thanks!

A:Processor Upgrade?

You would have to first find out if your current motherboard can support a different class of CPU/GPU/APU. Right now you have a Quad Core mobile CPU. Because this is a laptop, there is really going to be no way you would be able to swap out the CPU, since most are soldiered directly onto the motherboard for the laptop.

I don't know exactly where to post this topic but I think it would best be placed here I'm currently looking to upgrade my processor I'm looking at both the AMD Phenom II x and the AMD Phenom II x T They both take Processor upgrade up W of power and the six core is just more than the four core And I have a few questions I have a GTS Processor upgrade GPU and a W power unit specifics are in my specs below and I'm wondering if my power supply can hold up to the demand on one or both of these processors I have also noticed a W quad core at GHz and a W six core at Ghz and am now wondering if either of those would be a better idea Is the extra worth it to go six cores instead of four cores Processor upgrade After seeing benchmarks I've seen that the four-core is faster than the six core but will the extra two cores actually boost performance in heavy processor-demanding games Thank you for any advice in advance

A:Processor upgrade

If it is a good high end power supply which judging by your specs it's a fair one at least.
I think you will be okay.
The high-mid to high range psu's are often rated under what their actual delivery potential is.
I have a 1000 watt that can kick up to [email protected] if it needs too, so yeah majorly overpowered.

Oh that's something to note too, strong amps are a key component too.

If wattage is the amount amps is the force at which it's applied.
so 500 watts with very small amps is far less useful than a 500 watt with a strong amp rating.

A:Can I upgrade my processor?

Laptop cpus are almost never upgradeable. Next even if you could upgrade the cpu, it is not going to make much [if any difference] You are using intel integrated video which is NOT made for gaming.

In short if you want a gaming laptop, then buy a purpose built alienware gaming laptop. Trying to run games on the one you have is an exercise in futility.

Your laptop is made for office apps, email, watching a movie, etc and it will do those tasks quite well. It is NOT made to run hard core games.

I want to upgrade the processor in a computer, but I'm not positive the specs on the mobo. Is is safe to buy a new processor of the same type (Intel Celeron) or do I need to know exactly what that board can handle, etc? I'm not trying to upgrade it too far. It's 2,0 ghz, but it's been acting up a bit, so I'll be replacing it, but only with a 2.5 or 2.6 ghz processor.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Can somebody give me a reference please?
My motherboard currently is a Gigabyte GA-7ZX Rev. 5.0, currently running with a AMD Duron Socket A 800MHz. I would like to upgrade the motherboard with a AMD XP 2400+, but does my motherboard support that? I tried to find the info from Gigabyte, but either they don't post that because the board isn't the newest, or I looked in the wrong places.
Can somebody help?
