I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Intel 'Skylake' pricing and box art hit the web ahead of official launch

Got tired of waiting and bought 4690k months ago. Giving todays exchange rate, paid exactly $230+VAT. Probably saved some on DDR3 vs DDR4, maybe s1151 MOBOs will be also more expensive on release, while You can buy s1150 on sales and specials. What I don't get is the sentence: 'If so, what CPU are you upgrading from or are you building an entirely new PC from scratch?'? It's not like You can upgrade just Skylake, have to basically build a new PC: CPU, MOBO, RAM. If You play building your PC, rest is usually left over from previous builds.

It better come with Thunderbolt 3 included, if they want to attract PC enthusiasts.

On a related subject, this new Thunderbolt 3 isn't as good as we hoped...

Thunderbolt 3 also includes an update to the DisplayPort side of matters, though likely not what everyone has been expecting. With the increase in bandwidth, Thunderbolt 3 is able to carry twice as much video data as before. However Intel is not implementing the latest version of DisplayPort ? DisplayPort 1.3 ? in to the Thunderbolt 3 standard. Instead they are doubling up on DisplayPort 1.2, expanding the number of equivalent DisplayPort lanes carried from 4 to 8, essentially allowing one Thunderbolt 3 cable to carry 2 full DisplayPort 1.2 connections. The end result is that Thunderbolt 3 will not be able to drive the kind of next-generation displays DisplayPort 1.3 is geared towards ? things like 8K displays and 5K single-tile displays ? but it will be able to drive anything 1 or 2 DisplayPort 1.2 connections can drive today, including multiple [email protected] monitors or 5K multi-tile displays.Click to expand...

So, basically, they had all the opportunity to have DisplayPort 1.3 included, but decided not to. That is just wrong... It won't even support a single-tile 5K screen. And if so, then what good is it, really?

Evening, all

I bought an interesting little Single Board Computer as an mITX motherboard (a WADE-8020, more info at the link below):

I have another similar board in an old Hoojum Cubit 3 case, and was wondering if anyone might have any other suggestions for a similarly eye-catching case, probably ready-made, though I'm not averse to either buying a DIYed case, or maybe trying to make one myself (I have a Dremel but not much else, and that includes skill )

Cheers, Jon.

It often makes you wonder why push Broadwell now, when Haswell has a lot of traction and it's a few months to Skylake. They also included some BGA in the mix for other devices, but pushing a desktop chip seems a bit odd. Given the few months in between them and people unlikely, to drop Haswell unless for lower power systems.

All in all it's negligible power savings, we'd need to obviously see how the integrated graphics fair. It might be a solution for some people, but obviously not everyone is going to see it as a huge importance. It's kinda amusing to me because, I'm looking to replace my mobo / CPU right now. I'd likely sit and wait for Skylake, simply because I'd only be wanting to buy one upgrade. Upgrading is a low priority right now anyways, so there's less inclination to spend right away.

The reason you can't overclock your 9590 is because your motherboard has weak VRMs and VRM cooling. Also if you have a revision3 board that might be why too.
The 4820k is a far far superior CPU not sure where you'd get any conflicting information.
And no your FX9590 is certainly not holding back SLI 660.
BTW furmark is a gpu test.

Hello everyone. I am a 3D arch viz artist, using 3Ds Max + Vray render. I am looking for additional render power.

My budget is around 2.000 Euros, so I was considering 2 options:

A guy is selling a HP DL580 G7 server, which includes 32 GB ram and 4x Xeon E7540 2 GHz (6-core CPU, based on Nehalem), which is a total of 24 cores / 48 threads.

For the same money, I could buy a 5960X system or 2 systems running a Core i7 4790 CPUs. The hardware in my country is a bit more expensive when compared to USA / EU.

I can't find any benchmarks for the E7540 CPUs, so I am not sure if 4xE7540 would outperform 2 modern 4-core Core i7 CPUs (like the 4790K). That would be 24cores vs 8 cores / 48 threads vs 16 threads.

Vray render uses all of the available CPU cores, no limit there.

Hey all,

On my studio pc, I've installed a new rack mounted firewire audio interface in the studio. On the other drives (windows 8.1) the interface has installed perfectly but on the xp drive, although the drivers etc have been installed, once set, it works perfectly with the new outboard soundcard.

However, whenever I reboot to the xp drive, xp always reverts back to the on-board realtek sound card. I set the default to the new interface (a Presonus Firestudio Project) but every reboot it defaults to the realtek.

The motherboard is a P5N-E SLI if that helps.

How can I stop this happening so the new interface is the default?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

A:Intel Q9550 worth $100 (AUD)?

The Q9550 is still a solid quad core CPU, especially in comparison to the E7500 which is a bit anaemic thanks to its 3MB L2 cache (the Q9550 of course is blessed with 12MB). If completion time is a priority for content creation then it does represent a decent upgrade for your system.

I wouldn't recommend any overclocking adventures with that board though. While virtually any Q9550 (especially the E0 revision) runs at 400 FSB ( 3.4GHz) or better with anything above the stock cooler, the power draw goes up fairly markedly also, so stability is very dependant upon the voltage regulation of the board and the PSU's capacity.

A:Three long beeps on Intel desktop board D850MV/D850EMV2

I think three beeps on Intel is a memory issue. At least that what it was when I had a stick of cheap RAM crap out on me.

I'd run Memtest and go from there

RAM can fail from a number of causes. Heat exposure, flaky transistor junctions, who knows. I seriously doubt plugging the TV in had anything to do with it.
You could go into BIOS to ascertain if the RAM voltage is set correctly. Over-volting is a DIMM killer.

You should be able to get documentation for that board directly off Intel's web site. Intel used to give BIOS beep codes ion the board/chipset manuals.

They also have hardware monitor software as a free download. Look up "Intel Desktop Utilities Lite".

A:What AMD Processor is compatible with my mother board? And im new to this

That is an AM3 socket CPU which means it should be compatible with the Phenom II series CPU's. I looked up the board and it should still support up to a 95 watt CPU so any Phenom II X4 CPU with a 95 watt TDP would work on it.

I bought a new machine, basically to work with VM Workstation, but I'm wanting to know if there is more to this machine by tweaking it or should I just leave it as it is?

A:New Intel Core i7 4820k potential

I would leave it as is, there is no reason to have that much extra performance on the chip if your doing VM workstation stuff. You can overclock it if you want so long as you have a decent cooler attached, but I do not see a reason for you to do it.

Hello,
As the topic says, my computer doesn't detect my on-board sound card. It all started when I tried to install new audio drivers from manufacturers page, but the next day when I booted PC up there were no sound. In Device Manager, under Sounds, game,.. controllers tab sit 4-5 High Definition Audio Devices. Here's pic:

Then tried re-installing original audio drivers from motherboard CD, enabling/disabling On-Board HD Audio in BIOS but still no luck.

My Audio Device is VIA VT1705.
DxDiag shows that no sound card was found.

This is what is shown in Playback Devices tab:

But I have no HDMI kind audio devices..

How to make my system recognize my sound card?

Hi

I would like to ask anyone about these processors because I want to build my own PC for office needs editing and I don't know where to start I wanted also a triple monitor setup so I can manage my editing :3 don't know what specs to choose everything can someone help me any suggestions will be great helpThanks

A:Intel & AMD

To start: Do you have a budget in mind for this build? If so how much can you spend? What Software will you be using for editing? Do you need help on building the whole system or just which processor to choose?
Both AMD and Intel have positives and negatives. We here can help you as much as possible, but you have to give us some more information first.

Hey guys,

Just signed up although I have been following these forums for a few weeks now

Just after some advice. Basically I have the FX-8350 but I'm looking at switching to Intel (specifically the 4770k) as I've been told it's better for the GPUs I have, currently running dual-290x setup. Someone said the 8350 causes a lot of bottlenecking and that I would get a lot more out of them if I switched to the 4770k? Can anyone attest to that?

Cheers

A:Switching to Intel

The 8350 is more than enough. The i7 could gain you a few frames per second (FPS) depending on the game (somewhere from 5 FPS to as much as 15 FPS). I would keep the 8350 until more attractive CPU options come out like Haswell-E or the next generation of AMD FX CPUs or even the 5th generation of Intel's i7.

The reason I am saying this is because the 8350, while it may not perform as well as the 4770K (not by much), the 8350 completely serves your needs and there is no need to upgrade to a 4770K at this moment since it wont bring you that much of an improvement.

I hope this helps.

I have enabled RAID on my HDD and in the BIOS and finally put in a SSD 120gb that works. Now I don't know how to actually run the Intel Rapid Storage utility that I did do once before.

I downloaded the files from Microsoft but like so many Windows 7 (64-bit) files there's no instruction of where to put them. A self installation would've been handy.

So does anyone know how to set up IRS inside Windows 7? It's something to do with Administrative Tools but there's nothing showing in that menu when I go to Disk Management.

Sounds simple but everyone seems to assume you set this thing up automatically.

This is the setup as it shows from boot up.

I managed to find the setup program on this link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De...apid+Storage+Technology+(Intel®+RST)&lang=eng

After reboot I now get a separate Intel Rapid Storage Technology item on my menu but I can't see any command to accelerate the main C: drive using the SSD.

Anything I need to do extra?

A:Intel Rapid Storage

I now get this screen using the program:

You can see it's BLANK!

What am I doing wrong as there are no commands to accelerate the main HDD?

Well, many of you may already be aware of this, but intel has built a backdoor into every vpro processor since ivy bridge and the possibilities can be both useful(fixing tech problems remotely)and sickening(feds framing you with files of incrimination by adding them to your hard drive while off)or maybe(a hacker takes over your computer) and of course industrial sabotage . If you care for personal privacy then you might want to read up. http://www.prisonplanet.com/secret-3g-intel-chip-gives-snoops-backdoor-pc-access.html

I am looking to build my own PC as I can't afford £1,000+ to get someone to make one for me, I will be using it for gaming and communication and a little college work, I will probably be using Bullguard to protect it and OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office with a Win 7 64bit OS.

Bearing this in mind what would be the best Processor for the Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor and what would be the maximum Memory and Storage I could attach to it? ( I preferably want 8GB of Memory and 1tb of storage ) but I can be flexible.

A:What would be the best motherboard for a Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor?

The CPU you want is the i5 3570K. That runs on the socket LGA 1155. When you are on a budget, any mid range mobo will suit your needs. Use the savings from the mobo towards a better HDD or even an SSD. You will also need a GPU.

I would recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard. As for RAM, 8GB is enough. As for the HDD, 1TB is great. I recommend the WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD.

Make sure you can get in a GPU.

1)fast boot up
2)better gaming performance
3)overall fast performance of the system w.r.t hard disk
so can I use SSD ON DZ75ML-45K mobo...?

why I asked this question is that they are telling that Z75 series express chipset motherboard does not support "INTEL SMART RESPONSE TECHNOLOGY" & this is associated w.r.t SSD caching. And the thing is that I don't knw about SSD caching and that intel smart response technology as well, what are the benefits of "INTEL SMART RESPONSE TECHNOLOGY"? or SSD caching? So plz explain me about that...?
eagerly waiting for ur reply...

thanks in advance...

A:Queries about intel DZ75ML-45K motherboard

You can easily pop in a SATA SSD to use as a standalone. Intel SRT is software/firmware that allows for you to set up a caching SSD. I think you should just get a SSD and use it as the primary disk (OS + games) and just put large files on the HDD.

Your CPU supports SRT according to Intel: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/z75-express-chipset.html.

Just a note: SSDs do not increase game performance, they really just decrease load times.

I just came from a retail store to check on prices but most of their parts weren't available anymore. Instead of a G. Skill Ripjaws 2x4 8gb DDR-3 1600, the clerk offered me a Crucial Ballistix 2x4 8gb DDR-3 1866 memory. The board I'm gonna buy is an Asrock H77 Pro4/Mvp but looking at their memory support list http://www.asrock.com/mb/memory.asp?Model=H77 Pro4/MVP, it doesn't seem compatible.

The clerk had told me it was compatible and that he had tried it before but I'm not sure if it'd have unwanted effects over some period of time. (I got drawn in by how the memory looks and its LED so I'm including it as a choice). Thanks.

Hi there, I've been wondering about this for a long time and thought I might as well just as the ppl that are going to know best.
What it is, I've been trying to get this game ANNO 1404 to work on my laptop and I just cant figure out why it wont work.
Anyways my specs are:
Operating system: XP
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz
Memory: 2GB Ram
Not sure on video card but know system has: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
And I have DirectX 9 installed
The games specs are:
Operating System: 2000/XP/Vista
Processor: 3GHz Intel Pentium 4 or similar processor
Memory: 1 GB Ram
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 compliant. 128 MB DirectX compliant, Shader 2.0 Enabled

So could anyone please take a look at this and help me figure out why the game wont run on my laptop.
Thanks

A:Intel Duo vs Intel Pentium

What does it do when you try to start the game (game just not start / black screen / error message)?
Your Mobile Intel 965 intergrated graphics card probably is not compatible with the game. Checking out the system requirements online and it states on multiple sites: "...Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported..." Have you tried going into the BIOS and upping the video memory to see if that helps?
What is the make and model of your laptop? It may help with figuring the problem out.

I have an Asus P8P67 pro mobo with the Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection network adapter built in. It currently is using ver 11 driver.
I found the latest driver (PROWinx64.exe) to update it (I'm having some issues).
When I try to update it, I get an error box that says:

"The installed version of Intel Proset is not supported for upgrades. You must uninstall it before installing this version".

When I go to Device Manager to uninstall the Gigabit Network Connection in order to install this update...Windows re-installs it before I can run the update. Thus I can't update the driver. How do I stop Windows 7 from automatically updating this driver so that I will have time enough to manually update it with the downloaded newer driver?

I'm Running Windows 7 64bit

Any ideas?

A:Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection upgrade issues

Uninstall through Programs and Features in the Control Panel. Uninstalling through the Device Manager is only temporary and does not actually get rid of the driver. Basically, it just disconnects the device from the driver. As you found out it will reinstall itself every time you restart the computer.

Hello! I'm intrigued as to what people prefer and why. I'm currently with AMD, as their processors offer better multi-threaded performance when compared with Intel's CPU's. Although, Intel processors have better single threaded performance, but I use a lot of programs both at the same time, and that do a huge amount of multi-threading.

You want 4x2GB to utilize dual channel, I found this video online:
The video shows how dual channel has a large increase in performance over single channel. As for everyday use, you wont see a difference since not many everyday programs out there are memory bandwidth sensitive. As for 1333 vs 1600, go with 1600, I dont have any numbers for you, but people say the extra speed helps.

A:Overclock Intel Celeron D in Dell desktop

Since you say your PC is a Dell, I don't think you will have any options to over-clock.

Celeron's are locked processors, so you don't have the option to increase the multiplier.
Dell as well as other manufacturers usually lock the BIOS, so you wouldn't be able to increase the base frequency either.

Building a comp for a friend, budget is to be as low as possible (sub AUD$350 hopefully, check www.centrecom.com.au for prices).

She's going to be using it for basic computing (web browsing, watching DVDs) and basic photoshop. This computer is replacing an 8 year old laptop (to give you an idea how much computing power she really needs).

I'm thinking Intel G550, just because she'll get better use of more CPU power over the better graphics the AMD5300 would offer.

I really just need a suggestion for CPU, but if you have a motherboard suggestion that would be good, and if you really want, feel free to build a complete box (if you do, she doesn't need a storage HDD, just a boot HDD/SSD depending on budget).

Thanks in advance.

For basic PC usage a G550 will be fine since those tasks don't really make use of multiple cores or threads. But I'd be more inclined to go for a G860/G870, they don't cost that much more.

Have you gone into the sound menu in your control panel and set your default audio device to your headset?

If, under the "playback" tab, the HDMI output is ticked, then this is the problem.

This should solve the problem.

I have a MSI A6200 with a 1.8ghz cpu, I want to upgrade to the fastest cpu possible,I am not sure if this is all I need to submit in order for you guys to help me or not, but it is a Intel-HM55 Chipset.
It is a older model spec wise (discontinued) not the one shown on the MSI website.
I would like a i5 or i7 cpu which is what is shown on the MSI website..for the newer (still-discontinued) model. I assume this would be possible since it is the same chipset?

I can run CPU-Z when I get home and provide more detailed specs if need be...
Thanks for any and all suggestions!

So I am thinking about upgrading my cpu and switching over to intel but I cant really come up with any good reasons to buy a new cpu and motherboard other than my cpu is outdated and I would like to be able to record lets plays and gameplay. Are there any other pros to buying a new cpu? Like would the performance of my machine increase substantially or something?
P.S I was going to go with a:
Intel i5-3570k
ASRock Z77 Extreme3 ATX LGA1155

pc current specs:
AMD FX-6100-six core processor
16 gb 1033 mhz ram
XFX Radeon 6950

A:I am thinking about upgrading my CPU and switching over to Intel but...

Depends on what you're doing - if you do a lot of video encoding or CPU heavy tasks then it might be a worthwhile upgrade but if not then either upgrade your GPU if your main focus is gaming or SSD if you just want a more responsive machine for general use.

Unless your current CPU is frequently running at 100% there's no real reason to spend so much on an upgrade to a 3570K especially as Intel's next gen Haswell processors are coming out in a few months.

A:Any pricing info on Intel's Haswell CPUs?

I very much doubt Intel will change their pricing structure, expect Haswell to come in at similar price points but with IPC improvements, lower power consumption and better integrated GPU.

I wouldn't call SB/IB expensive, given their performance they are reasonably priced compared to the competition. The i7 chips with Hyperthreading and the six core SB-E ones are a bit pricier but normal computer users and gamers won't need that sort of power. 1155 motherboard are around the same price as AM3+ ones too.

Hey guys, so I've been getting a few questions lately regarding the intel vPro processors.
Now I've heard about these before, but only scantily, so what I've gained in terms of knowledge is that I believe they are used for business computers or something of the sort (?)
anyway was just wondering if somebody with some actual knowledge of these curious CPU's could help me out with a few general pointers.

1. What are the vPro series used for primarily? Gaming? Servers? Number-Crunching?
2. Could you give me a rundown of how they stack up against some other popular CPUs?
3. Pros/Cons

I look forward to seeing any potential answers, after all I'm keen to learn

PCGH has thoughtfully provided some information regarding AMD's upcoming Vishera (Piledriver) range of consumer CPU's and APU's. The charts basically confirm the already leaked details circulating around the web.
One odd detail is that the top part, the FX-8350, appears to have a stock frequency of 4.0GHz, but turbo and maximum turbo are 4.1 and 4.2 respectively - You'd hope that these figures are for all four modules and not a single.

On a rather longer timeline, Theo Valich over at VR-Zone has outlined Intel's future server/workstation platforms - Brickland and Grantley- for Ivy Bridge-EX, Haswell-EX and Broadwell-EX, and are expected to serve through from 2013 to 2016.

A:CPUs for racing games: AMD or Intel?

Those games you mentioned aren't that taxing so you should be able to easily get a smooth 60fps for $1200. You can use this as a baseline, the components come to $1500 so to meet your budget I'd say get the ASRock Extreme4 mobo instead of the Extreme6, ditch the sound card and BR drive and get the Corsair 400R case instead. The Samsung 830 is only $5 more than the Crucial m4 so I'd get that instead.

The most important part for gaming is the GPU. While the GTX 670 is an excellent card it will be overkill for the games you're running (not sure about Grid 2 obviously), something like a 7850 for $240 or the GTX 570 for $260 will easily run all your games.

I wouldn't worry about upgrade paths, the i5 3570K will last you 3-4 years at least.

Not sure why you're purchasing parts separately but if it's because of cashflow issues, I'd recommend saving up and buying everything together because components usually only ever decrease in price, especially GPUs. But if you're really keen to upgrade something I'd recommend getting an SSD first.

That question can only be answered with more questions about what you want out of a motherboard.

P67 does not have support for on-board graphics
P67 & Z68 may not support Ivy Bridge CPU's
H77 & Z77 has native support for 4 (if I'm not mistaken) USB 3.0 ports

There are many other differences as well as those.

Thats all you need to know, the CPU is irrelevant for selecting memory. The CPU never has dictated the type of memory used. The motherboard either supports the memory or it doesn't.

A:Intel Core i5-2500k vs 3550

A more valid comparison is the 2500K vs 3570K, as both are multiplier unlocked.

If you're hardcore overclocking go with the 2500K, if you're not OCing or want a mild OC go with the 3570K for lower temps and lower power consumption.

There's about a 5-10% difference in favour of the 3570K for CPU intensive tasks, and no difference when gaming.

Hello Everyone,

Been a long time browser of TS and am glad to finally join. I am looking to utilize a Q6600 processor and the following system board and RAM:

ASUS P5G41T-M LX Plus
Corsair XMS3 1333MHz PC3-10666

The goal is to moderately overclock the Q6600 to 3.2 GHz. In my research, I have read many positive reviews about the stability of ASUS boards, and the DDR3 capability is significant to me. However, from what I have gathered, this board can be fussy when overclocking the CPU. Has anyone had any experience with a similar setup?

I would appreciate any thoughts/comments/suggestions.

Thank you!

A:New project: LGA 775 board w/ DDR3 needed -- thoughts please?

Firstly, why do you need to overclock it? I'm guessing its more because you want to, than necessity, but my thoughts are below.

I run the exact same CPU in my system 24/7 and while it might be long in the tooth compared with most systems on here, it's certainly not lacking at stock speeds as it is.

Not sure if system specs is easily read right now, but for the sake of doubt, mine are: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 G0 stepping (at stock OC with Corsair H50 (push/pull) providing cooling), Abit AW9D-MAX, 8GB OCZ Gold series DDR2-1066, HD6870, Antec HCG-620 PSU, a SSD and six mechanical disks.

I wouldn't call 3.2GHz a moderate OC on the Q6600, that's more like 2.8-3.0GHz. I used to have mine overclocked but the difference was so minimal (in real terms) that the additional heat it gave off and power it consumed made it pointless. I was never able to achieve 3.05GHz or above either, but I've no doubt that more experienced hands would have managed it. Overclocking is my weaker subject in the field of IT generally speaking, and I can't say I've ever really pushed the envelope very far in that regard.

Though that said, I've always found Gigabyte boards to be much more forgiving when it comes to RAM settings. Asus in my experience can be a real nightmare with recognising the default timings and voltages for RAM, and in "my experience" need much more work to achieve the same result.

Another point that needs to be considered is LGA-775 is legacy hardware now, so you'd be spending money on defunct hardware. If you have the CPU it might be better to grab a second-hand board off of eBay or something, or maybe look to something newer and more current.

Bought me recently a new MoBo: P8H67, installed it, killed Realtek onboard in the BIOS, all thus far goes splendid.
Put in SoundMax (from my P5E Lifestyle), hardware checks ok.
Install driver... and here things go awkward: no matter what I try: SoundMax Hi Def is not found/recognized.
Tried both the DVD-soft that came with me P5E, as well as online new drivers, to no use...

Reason for SoundMax: I was slightly baffled by the power behind the tiny card, it was literally mindblowing (over my JBL's).
This power is not found on Realtek hardware, hence.

Prob: I want to keep using the tiny SoundMax, but I desperately need a driver.

A:Good mid-range to high-end Intel LGA 1155 motherboard suggestions

The best board I've used thus far -a combination of stability, feature set, ease of use and overclock ability would be the Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen 3. It features a PLX bridge chip which allows use of virtually all features concurrently ( the third PCIe x16 @ x4 isn't downgraded to x1 for instance if you use most/all of the SATA 6Gb/USB3.0 ports).
If you don't need a full-size board then the ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z/GEN3 at around $180 might make some appeal. Both these boards have no facility for video-out (no onboard HDMI, DP, DVI, D-Sub) - not a great concern for most people looking at Z68 boards.

Word of warning: Z77 boards are reportedly due for release on 8th April. While they will offer very little (if anything) over Z68 boards, it will mean that Z68 board prices will take a nosedive. My advice if you need a board right now and want to save some cash, would be to pick up a functional and well regarded cheap board such as the P8Z68-V/G3 (which still a very nice board) and maybe look to replace it with one of the top-end boards which will surely drop in price. It does mean that you would have the hassle of finding a buyer for a board, but on the plus side you may find yourself happy with the P8Z68-V.

You'll notice that all the selections are Asus based products. Asus -at least for Z68, seems to be putting out the best boards overall. Some other vendors are having QC problems. Gigabyte, which are normally my first choice in mobo making, have some infuriating reboot loop issues with some boards that still remains even with the latest BIOS updates.

I currently own main sig rig with an Intel i7 950 CPU. I'm planning on building a second gaming rig for the kids. Either a i5 2500K or i7 2600K.

I'm wondering should I switch the i7 950 for either of those two?

The i5 2500K seems to be as good i7 2600K for gaming but adds hyper threading for applications at $100 more. Is it really worth it?

Would the i7 2600K be better than the i7 950?

I'm just not sure. Any suggestions or comments?

A:Intel i7-950 vs i5-2500K vs i7-2600K

If you do heavily threaded processes (like video encoding or the like) then I'd say the 2600K is worth it to you. If you rarely do those types of things I'd say build with a 2500K and give the kids the 950. Also, make sure you get a decent aftermarket CPU cooler and once you have everything running stably give it a bit of an OC for a pleasant surprise - this is coming from someone who has been against overclocking for the last few years. I've been more interested in stability than anything else, but there's just no way these chips were not meant for this. Prior to getting a 2600K myself I was on an i7 930 and I really wasn't expecting a performance increase due to several of the things I had read from other people. Turns out there's no way any of these people have spent an extended amount of time with both and come to that conclusion. It's been a very pronounced performance gain after switching to the 2600K for me and I was already using some pretty solid GPUs.

the card is working fine.

in case you can't find the pin 20, here is a diagram. the second pin from the notch at the bottom side of the card is pin20
you have to be careful not to cut the board while cutting the tape. covering the pin20 only is a tricky thing. it took to half an hour.

Hello friends,

What is a suitable motherboard for the above processor in a budget build? I would be using the on board HD 3000 graphics to start with.

Thanks for any input.

A:Motherboard for Intel i3 2105 CPU

Do you wish for a board that supports SATA 3.0 or USB 3.0?
Do you wish for a DVI port or is VGA (D-Sub) port enough for your needs?
Do you require an IDE drive connection or will SATA be all you need? (boards with IDE support seem to be expensive)
Will you be needing Micro-ATX or ATX form factor?

The P67 chipset does not support on-board graphics.

For on-board graphics, H61, H67 or Z68 chipsets are what you should look for. Since you are looking for a budget board, you will probably want to go with the H61 chipset.

Please don't ask us to pick out a board. All we can do is help guide you in the direction you want to go. We can give a few suggestions but ultimately you must be the one to choose.

but p4 2,4 ghz have 2nd cache 512k, celeron 256k

A:Pentium 4 2.4GHz or Intel Celeron D 330

They are both so comparable in performance, there would be little difference in using either of them.

I have a similar situation with a Celeron D 3.2 (LGA775) system and a P4 2.8 CPU that I could use. After looking up the benchmarks, I found that it was a flip flop as to which one out performed the other. It boiled down to only gaining performance when processing certain things. Therefor it was not even worth considering the CPU switch.

Just a quick note for anyone interested in using (or is already using) SSD's in RAID 0. It seems that TRIM support for RAID 0 will be implemented in Intel's RST 11.5 driver.

Several months ago I recieved a custom Laptop from PCspecialist co uk and until recently it had met all my expectations In the last couple of weeks however I have noticed a significant drop in performance Processor Intel i QM Ghz GPU Gb Radeon HD M RAM & with HD Intel 6990M i7 Radeon Performance drops Gb DDR OS Windows The laptop was bought as a high power gaming laptop and it served its purpose very well until recently when games that had been performing perfectly became sluggish and laggy I have downloaded and run Passmark and it has given my processor a score of vs the normal - for its Performance drops with Intel i7 & Radeon HD 6990M type and the result for the Performance drops with Intel i7 & Radeon HD 6990M graphics card was similarly far below the standard benchmark The laptop doesn t seem to generate any heat even on intense games even though it did so previously so for whatever reason it doesn t seem to be working as hard I haven t got many programs installed as the laptop was intended for gaming and light web browsing so the HD is relatively empty Even Skype has been complaining of low performance I d just like to know what is wrong with my laptop and how I can get it s edge back Any help is appreciated Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Performance drops with Intel i7 & Radeon HD 6990M

ok, I have installed some monitoring software for my CPU and graphics card and I can tell you that even with a game running, the graphics card doesn't even seem to be active.
This is using AMD System monitor.
Is it possible that I have somehow gotten stuck on Internal graphics? I doubt this as most internal graphics probably can't manage Supcom even slightly but I don't know any other explaination. Everything I can monitor I am monitoring and neither CPU, GPU or RAM even seem to be coming close to maxing out and yet games are lagging and juddering and complaining about low performance.
This never used to happen and is literally a last couple of weeks thing.
Any help at all would be appreciated.

Hi all,

My new computer has a problem with the on-board gigabit ethernet it keeps dropping network connection every few minutes. I have tried many things including:

1) Updated Asus P8P67 BIOS

2) Updated Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet Connection Drivers from ASUS and INTEL

3) Changed adapter properties

- Recieve Side Scaling

- Gigabit Master Slave Mode to Force Slave Mode from default auto

- Interrupt Moderation from enabled to disabled

- Turned off IPV6

Nothing has had any effect. It has been such an annoying problem, I really was hoping to find a fix for this sooner as I know other people have had similar issues. Does anyone have any other ideas because I would like to use the only ethernet connection sometime in the near future. Having to run of an WPN11 netgear usb adapter at the moment.

Thanks

A:Intel 82579V issue

Uninstalled then re-installed using latest driver? Boot from an Ubuntu disk and see if you have internet access via the suspect network port. If you don't then probably your nic is knackered. Is it still in guaranty?

hello guys.
I would like to know your opinions about the gaming performance of upcoming AMD processors and why you think it is better or worse than i7 sandy bridge

A:AMD Bulldozer FX 8150p vs Intel i7-2600k for gaming

I have been holding off on building a new system until the release of Bulldozer so I can make my final decision based upon actual comparative data between AMD's newest release and the Intel offerings. But until we know actual benchmarks from released Bulldozer chips it is impossible to say. My guess is it might meet and possibly even surpass 2500 but not the i7 2600.

Hello I am a newbie overclocker . So recently I have been trying to get my Intel 2 Duo e8200 (originally 2.6 ghz) to 3.7 ghz. As of now I have been able to get it up to 3.4 ghz without having to increase my ram voltage. So in my bios I am given the option to increase my DDr2 reference voltage my increments of 10mhz. I am wondering what the safe ranges are for ram voltage. Can anybody give me a good idea of what I should do next. And yes I have already run stress test on my cpu.

A:Overclocking Intel Core 2 Duo E8200

i had Intel 2 Duo e8200 and i know a lot about this cpu so i personally don't recommend to overclock your cpu more than 3.4 Ghz to avoid heat and unstable or failure system and that's could damage your cpu , ram or mainboard.

I have been going through the process of building a computer for the first time and the motherboard is the final piece of the puzzle I am seriously considering the Asus Maximus Gene-Z as the motherboard to go along with GB Hawks OC in SLI on mATX a Is SLI usually on board avoided? air to go along with an OC i - k but I have been seeing some concerns about temperatures in general As far Is SLI on a mATX board on air usually avoided? as cooling the board would be in a mid-tower that has the dimensions of the full tower Storm Sniper with its default fans and the CPU would be cooled by a Corsair A I do have a few ATX motherboard in mind if the mATX option isn t ideal for SLI including the MSI Z A-GD ASUS P Z -V PRO or ASRock Z EXTREME GEN i - K Corsair A GB GTX Hawk in SLI x GB G Skill Sniper DDR Samsung Spinpoint TB Asus x DVD-Drive Cooler Master Storm Sniper Seasonic X- nbsp

A:Is SLI on a mATX board on air usually avoided?

Personally if I was building a computer without having any hardware to start with I would probably aim for a higher end single card rather than 2 older and now mid range 460 GTX cards. That way in the future you can pickup another higher performance card and then use SLI.

As for mATX and SLI, as long as the board supports it then there is no problem. You have stated its in a full tower so airflow won't be a problem. You might find some problems such as PCI 1x slot blocked/unusable when you have two double slot (two expansion slot height) PCI-E graphics cards in the motherboard.

Hi all I have an asus x s laptop and a while ago the power jack inside broke off and went further into the unit I managed to take the laptop apart and retrieve the jack I then rather stupidly attempted to desolder board PCB Splintered the remainder of the unit from the board and found that apparently ASUS use diamond as solder that or I wasn t doing something right Anyway point is that the contacts stayed in the board no matter what and only with force Splintered PCB board and heat did they come out unfortunately however there are still two contacts firmly in the board Anyway as you can all imagine the inevitable happened The board warped slightly and on one of the corner points the iron went through and splintered the side picture attached A couple of questions Number And I think I already know the answer to this As this has happened will this be detrimental to the running of the laptop I m going to guess that the second I turn it on should I be successful in replacing that the power will short and the world will end or something Number Since last using the laptop I can only assume that the rest of the components processor RAM Drive etc are still in good working order and I m wondering just how successful anyone may think it would be to sell the laptop as spare parts or would I be better off taking into the yard with a shotgun Sorry about the cynical nature of this post that s just how I am that and I m incredibly annoyed at myself for thinking that me soldering iron delicate electronics was ever going to have any other outcome than this nbsp
